Samsung Galaxy Buds 3

The galaxy buds 3 look just like airpods.

Avatar for Andrew Romero

Samsung is only a short amount of time away from unveiling a slew of new phones, wearables, and earbuds. One of the earbuds – the Galaxy Buds 3 – take on a very familiar design that many might mistake for Apple AirPods.

Samsung has introduced several iterations of the Galaxy Buds over the past few years. Each of those designs has brought something a little bit different to users, both in design and functionality. The previous generation took on a simple bud design that was comfortable and performed well. This year, things are changing more than a bit.

Through a leaked set of photos posted by Evan Blass on Twitter/X , the Galaxy Buds 3 design is now public. At first glance, one would be forgiven for not thinking this was a Samsung-designed product. In fact, the Galaxy Buds 3 look a lot like Apple Airpod clones.

google doc homework

The buds take on a stemmed design with absolutely no silicone ear tips to be seen. In fact, the inner portion of the bud carries a similar grilled speaker insert and several microphones along the top side of the chassis. The stem itself is boxy rather than round and terminates in two metallic plates with Samsung’s new color palette hues – blue and orange. Along the stem lies a black line. Comparing it to previous images , it’s possible it could be an LED strip or capacitive sensor on both models.

The most surprising part of the leak is the lack of silicone tips on the Galaxy Buds 3, which brings up the question of comfort over extended listening sessions. The leak contains images of the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, as well, and those pictures showcase a silicone tip product, though they still look like copied homework.

The Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro are set to be unveiled in Paris on July 10. Prior to that event, Samsung is running a pretty enticing deal that gives users a $50 credit and a chance to win $5,000 when they simply reserve a free spot with their name and email. The $50 can go a long way for accessories and cases. Samsung is also planning on offering boosted trade-ins.

Pandemic-Era Newlyweds Consider an Age-Old Question: To Buy or Not to Buy?

By Heather Senison June 27, 2024

  • Share full article

With their lease on a Lower East Side apartment expiring, two software engineers wondered if buying made more sense than renting, now that the housing market wasn’t quite so frenzied. Here’s what they found.

A young man and woman are sitting on an outdoor bench.

Kathleen Li and Matthew Molnar met online in September 2019, and before they knew it, they were pandemic sweethearts.

“Otherwise, I don’t know that I would have seen another living soul during the first year of the pandemic,” said Ms. Li, 36, who grew up in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and moved to the city in 2010 for a job at Google, where she works as a software engineer.

Three years later, she and Mr. Molnar, also a software engineer, became pandemic-era newlyweds. And in late 2023, as their lease on a small Lower East Side two-bedroom was about to expire, they considered the age-old question: Was it better to buy or to go on renting?

As they perused Zillow, the numbers came together quickly. They saw apartments listed for not much more than they had sold for 10 or 15 years earlier. Some sellers were even dropping their prices to lure buyers after the feeding frenzy during the early years of the pandemic.

[Did you recently buy a home? We want to hear from you. Email: [email protected] ]

“The stock market was doing fairly well, and we had some investments that we could utilize,” said Mr. Molnar, 39, who grew up in Ohio and bought a house there before moving to New York for a job in 2017. The house, which he kept, was generating rental income.

Almost immediately, a spacious Flatiron loft caught Ms. Li’s eye. “The renovation was really beautiful,” she said.

When the couple asked to see it, Zillow matched them with Eric Zollinger, an associate broker at Elegran Forbes Global Properties, and the three instantly clicked.

“They were by far the best buyers I’ve ever worked with,” Mr. Zollinger said, adding that the pair did their homework and came to every showing with a positive attitude and an open mind. “It was the easiest deal from start to finish, mainly because they did everything I asked them to.”

The couple set a budget of $1.7 million, and their wish list included enough space to start a family, the need for only minimal renovations and minimal noise. With both doing hybrid remote work, they wanted home-office spaces and the shortest possible commutes to her office in Chelsea and the co-working sites used by his employer, Button.

Among their options:

Flatiron Loft

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom, 1,600-square-foot loft had an open floor plan and a kitchen with marble countertops, funky industrial light fixtures and a breakfast bar. The bathrooms were big, and one had a claw-foot tub. There was a home-office nook and ample closet space. The apartment was at the back of the building, so it didn’t get much sun, but it was cool and quiet, and had a new central air-conditioning system. And the 1905 building was close to several subway lines and Google’s headquarters. The asking price was $1.695 million, with monthly maintenance of about $3,300.

Garment District Co-op

A building facade, looking up.

This 2,000-square-foot co-op was in an updated 1910 building in the garment district. The railroad-style apartment had its original wood windows and open living, office, dining and kitchen spaces in the front; two bedrooms, two bathrooms (one recently renovated) and a home-office space (or possible third bedroom) were in the back. There were multiple subways nearby, and the building was within walking distance of Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal. The asking price was $1.695 million, with monthly maintenance of about $2,900.

The interior of a loft-like apartment

Kips Bay Co-op

This renovated 1,600-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bathroom co-op had a tiled foyer, a large living-and-dining area, a bonus space that could be used as an office or bedroom, ample storage and heated bathroom floors. The updated kitchen had Caesarstone countertops, a breakfast bar and a pantry. The postwar building was a 10-minute walk from the subway, and several rooms were painted very bright colors, but the views from the bedrooms made up for that. The asking price was $1.795 million, with monthly maintenance of about $3,230.

The Ho-Hum Box Office of Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon’ Carries a Message: Don’t Turn Movies Into Television

Xbox dominated summer game fest — but game pass remains tricky bet, peso pluma breaks down 'éxodo' songs, and how ric flair inspired 'ice', popular on variety.

But obviously, Costner can afford it. All the players who do this sort of thing can. They have plenty of assets left over. (That’s one reason I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often.) Costner has always been the definition of a star who cares, who acts in and directs worthy projects, who possesses a reverence for the art of movies. That he poured his own money into a sprawling Western magnum opus has a kind of purity to it.

That said, it would be hard to think of another example of a movie that proved the old saw right as much as “Horizon” does.

What this means is that “Horizon,” with a likely $12 million opening weekend and a $100 million price tag (not for the whole saga; just for “Chapter 1”), has the potential to be not only a financial train wreck, but the kind of train wreck that unfolds in slow motion over the course of months. In the case of “Chapter 3,” it involves building the train even as it’s in the middle of crashing. That’s a lot of box office pain to buy for $38 million.

Costner knew what he was doing when he took his gamble, and he’ll be fine. Maybe the money will even come back to him through residuals. But when a big movie opens with this kind of thud, it’s worth asking what happened, and if there are lessons to be learned. In this case, there’s a major lesson. It is this: Don’t turn movies into television.

Because that’s what Costner tried to do, and that was his folly. His star had dimmed in the 2010s, but it came roaring back with “Yellowstone,” the Taylor Sheridan TV series that began in 2018. It’s obvious that Costner took his cue from the show’s extraordinary success in deciding to craft “Horizon” as an episodic drama, one that will (theoretically) stretch out to more than 10 hours. It’s not a 10-hour movie , exactly. It’s a series — or, as I described “Chapter 1” in my review, “the seedbed for a miniseries.” Because there’s a feeling you have watching “Chapter 1” that you’re being introduced to all these characters, but you haven’t even gotten to the good stuff yet. That sort of thing can work on television. But in the movies it’s fatal. I would argue that a movie has to hook you in the first 40 minutes or it’s toast.

Is the problem with “Chapter 1” that it isn’t a better miniseries? Possibly. But I still think the issue is one of form. The discursive, anecdotal, all-over-the-place drama of “Horizon” feels, at least in the first three hours, like homework, and I don’t think that’s because I’m not enough of a “red-state audience person” to get it. It’s because television writing is different from movie writing. TV episodes, especially in an ensemble piece, are often open-ended. There’s a dip-in/dip-out quality to them. Whereas movies require a sense of resolution. And there’s a hubris built into the four-chapter concept of “Horizon,” since if people don’t turn out for “Chapter 1,” who in God’s name is going to care about “Chapter 2”? That audience, in August, is likely to be even smaller.
