Graduate Certificate Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to some important questions that students like you want to know.

Depending on the certificate program in which you’re enrolled and the master’s degree in which you are interested, six to 15 credits from your certificate program courses can transfer to any of Erikson’s four master’s degree programs. The only exception at this time is the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health certificate program, which is a post-master’s certificate program and a total of four credits from the program can be transferred to the Master of Social Work program. Talk to our admissions team for more detail.

Post-baccalaureate certificate programs generally offer course work at the upper undergraduate level, while courses in graduate certificate programs are at the graduate level. There are always exceptions depending on the individual institute of higher education, but Erikson Institute’s certificate program courses are all taught at the graduate level.

Erikson’s certificates are for academic credit. You may have the option of enrolling in graduate certificate program courses for professional development credit rather than academic credit. This is contingent on approval from the program director and the admission committee.

Courses taken for professional development credit are not eligible for federal or Erikson financial aid. Additionally, if taken as professional credits they are generally not eligible to be transferred to another degree program, either at Erikson or at another institution of higher education.

If you are enrolled in a certificate program to earn a professional credential or license, courses taken for professional development credit may not fulfill the requirements for the respective credential. Always check with the correct professional body that awards the credential you are seeking to make sure your professional development credit will be accepted.

Graduate Certificate Degrees in Education Early Childhood Education

Individuals who enjoy teaching and working with young children may be interested in pursuing a degree in early childhood education, a concentration that specializes in child development and learning strategies. Students may choose to work in a setting that focuses on child development and instruction.

What is a graduate certificate? A graduate certificate is a post-baccalaureate qualification awarded by colleges, universities, and technical schools around the world. Depending on where the certificate is awarded, a graduate certificate confers either bachelor- or master-level qualifications. For example, in the UK and other Commonwealth countries, a graduate certificate is awarded to undergraduate students; in the US, graduate certificates are a post-graduate qualification and may be issued as part of a master’s or PhD program. Students usually pursue a graduate certificate after completing at least one undergraduate degree. A certificate earned at a bachelor level may have a more limited scope than one earned at a master level because of the student’s different experience with her or his field of study. Scholars may pursue this education to gain a deeper understanding of their chosen field or to prepare themselves for a promotion. The cost of a graduate certificate will depend on the country and institution where you study, though in some countries the cost of a graduate certificate is significantly less than tuition in a traditional master’s degree program. A graduate certificate program may also take less time to complete than a full bachelor’s or master’s degree program.

Program Website

The Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Diversity in Early Childhood Education seeks to prepare educators to understand and address the role that diversity—cultural, socioeconomic, and otherwise—plays in child development and learning. Educators examine the types and stages of early childhood development with a focus on the role of cultural and linguistic diversity; essential components of effective early childhood programs; and the impact of access, equity, and social justice on child development and early childhood programming. Educators also study approaches to meeting the needs of English language learners, children on the autism spectrum, and children with developmental delays. Coursework explores practical strategies for planning curricula, teaching and assessing young children, and referring children to appropriate resources. Learners can apply the credits they earn in this certificate program toward Walden’s MS in Early Childhood Studies with a specialization in Teaching and Diversity in Early Childhood Education.

This program does not lead to an endorsement, certification, or licensure. Walden makes no representation, warranty, guarantee, or commitment that successful completion of this program or coursework for graduate credit within this program will permit a graduate to obtain state certification or licensure.

The graduate degree program and coursework within the program in which you are enrolling may be accepted by many states toward upgrading or renewing a license or obtaining a salary increase (depending on state or district policy). Teachers are advised to contact their individual school districts as to whether this program may qualify for salary advancement. Walden enrollment specialists can provide guidance on program requirements; however, it remains the individual’s responsibility to understand and comply with all state and school district requirements.

Elektrostal, Moscow Oblast, Russia

early childhood education graduate certificate

Elektrostal, located in the Moscow Oblast of Russia, has a rich and intriguing history that intertwines with the political landscape and geography of the region.

Elektrostal, with a current estimated population of approximately 160,000 residents, is a major industrial city situated in the eastern part of Moscow Oblast. The city's name translates to "Electro Steel," which reflects its historical association with the steel industry. Elektrostal's population has experienced significant growth over the years, particularly during the industrialization period of the Soviet Union.

The city's history can be traced back to the early 20th century when it was established as a planned settlement. In 1916, the Russian government made the decision to construct a large metallurgical plant in the region due to the availability of natural resources, such as iron ore and coal, as well as its proximity to Moscow. This marked the beginning of Elektrostal's industrial development, which would have a profound impact on its growth and identity.

During the Russian Revolution and subsequent establishment of the Soviet Union, Elektrostal, like many other industrial cities, played a crucial role in supporting the country's industrialization efforts. The city's steel plant became an integral part of the Soviet economy, contributing to the growth of heavy industry and the modernization of the nation. The political environment during this time heavily influenced the development of Elektrostal, as the centralized Soviet government prioritized industrial production and the advancement of the working class.

Throughout the 20th century, Elektrostal continued to expand and evolve. The city saw significant developments in infrastructure, housing, and social services to accommodate the needs of its growing population. Residential areas, schools, hospitals, and cultural institutions were established to provide for the well-being of the city's inhabitants. Additionally, the steel plant underwent modernization and expansion, leading to increased production capacity and employment opportunities.

However, the political environment of the Soviet Union also had its drawbacks. The centrally planned economy, which prioritized industrial output, often neglected environmental considerations. As a result, Elektrostal, like many other industrial cities, faced issues related to pollution and environmental degradation. Efforts were made to mitigate these problems over time, with the implementation of stricter environmental regulations and the introduction of cleaner production technologies.

The geographical location of Elektrostal also influenced its history and development. Situated in the Moscow Oblast, the city benefited from its proximity to the capital city. This allowed for easy transportation of goods and resources, as well as access to a wider range of cultural and educational opportunities. The region's favorable climate, with warm summers and cold winters, also played a role in shaping the city's lifestyle and economy.

In recent decades, Elektrostal has undergone further transformations. With the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the city experienced a shift from a planned economy to a market-oriented system. This transition brought both opportunities and challenges, as Elektrostal had to adapt to the new economic realities while preserving its industrial heritage.

Today, Elektrostal continues to be an important industrial hub, with the steel plant remaining a major employer in the region. However, the city has also diversified its economy, attracting investments in sectors such as manufacturing, electronics, and engineering. Efforts have been made to enhance the quality of life for residents, with the development of recreational areas, parks, and cultural events.
