Best Telugu Movies of 2022

Every year hundreds of movies are released in the Telugu film industry. Some of them get all the limelight for their making, acting, depiction of the plot, etc. but only a few are shortlisted in the best category. Come 2022, it is time to look at the success of Tollywood and its best movies for this year. This year showcased several great movies at the box office, and there was competition amongst filmmakers aplenty. All genres impressed a lot, and a couple of big-budget movies took the limelight and held the centre stage. Our goal in this space is to provide the best Telugu movies of 2022, and the following are the best movies as voted by viewers worldwide.

Yashoda (2022)

Star: samantha ruth prabhu,varalaxmi sarathkumar,unni mukundan,murli sharma,sampath raj, samantha draws whistles both in the way she kicks butt and delivers punch dialogues in this engaging thriller.

God Father (2022)

Star: chiranjeevi,salman khan,nayanthara,satya deva,puri jagannadh, the film, god father directed by mohan raja featuring chiranjeevi, nayanthara, satyadev kancharana and bollywood star salman khan in a cameo, proves to be a worthy remake. chiranjeevi embodies the character of brahma brilliantly and comes up with a charismatic performance. engaging screenplay, exhilarating background score and neat camera work make this political drama a festive watch. it’s safe to say the boss is back.

Oke Oka Jeevitham (2022)

Star: sharwanand,ritu varma,vennela kishore,amala akkineni, a traumatised young musician, along with his two friends, time travels with the help of a maverick scientist to fix things from the past. did they do it watch it for brilliant performances of the cast and crew..

Bimbisara (2022)

Star: nandamuri kalyanram,catherine tresa,samyuktha menon,warina hussain,vennela kishore,brahmaji,srinivasa reddy, bimbisara, a telugu fantasy action film written and directed by debutant mallidi vashist starring nandamuri kalyan ram as the ancient king bimbisara alongside a slew of well-known actors, will surprise the audience with its grandeur, power-packed performances, epic background score and fantastic visuals. the movie's first half is a runaway hit, and the second half could have been better. kalyan ram as bimbisara was brilliant — probably his best performance to date.

Sita Ramam (2022)

Star: dulquer salmaan,mrunal thakur,rashmika mandanna,sumanth, dulquer and mrunal breathe life into their characters, something that's needed for a story like this to work.

Virata Parvam (2022)

Star: rana daggubati,sai pallavi,priyamani,nandita das,nivetha pethuraj,naveen chandra, virata parvam is not the kind of film that’s entertaining in the conventional sense, but it is the kind of film that stays with you..

Ante Sundaraniki (2022)

Star: nani,nazriya nazim,naresh,rahul ramakrishna,tanvi ram,srikanth iyengar, it's hard to nit-pick this fun film filled with relatable characters, lots of laughter and bad ideas.

Major (2022)

Star: adivi sesh,sobhita dhulipala,saiee manjrekar,prakash raj,revathi,murali sharma, sashi kiran tikka and adivi sesh make the choice of telling an emotional coming-of-age tale instead of a clichéd jingoistic one.

Bheemla Nayak (2022)

Senapathi (2021)

Star: rajendra prasad,naresh agastya,gnaneswari kandregula,rakendu mouli, senapathi is a compelling crime drama for the most part.

Top Gear (2022)

Star: aadi saikumar,riya suman,brahmaji,mime gopi, director sashikanth and aadi saikumar pull off an engaging thriller filled with guns and gangsters.

Dhamaka (2022)

Star: ravi teja,sreeleela,jayaram,sachin khedekar,tanikella bharani,rao ramesh,chirag jani,ali, dhamaka, directed by trinadha rao nakkina, featuring ravi teja and sreeleela in the lead, is an action-packed comedy which relies heavily on mass entertainment rather than story. despite being a routine story with a couple of interesting twists, the film comes across as a true-blue entertainer and works for people who like vintage ravi teja movies..

Masooda (2022)

Urvasivo Rakshasivo (2022)

Ginna (2022)

Ori Devuda (2022)

Crazy Fellow (2022)

Star: aadi,digangana suryavanshi,mirnaa menon,saptagiri,anish kuruvilla, crazy fellow has a simple story elevated by aadi, digangana and mirnaa’s performances.

Nenu Meeku Baaga Kavalsinavaadini (2022)

The best and the worst Telugu films of 2022 so far: RRR, Major, Sarkaru Vaari Patta, Bheemla Nayak on the list

The good and the bad movies to come out of the telugu film industry in 2022 so far. rrr, bheemla nayak and radhe shyam are on the list..

The first half of 2022 was quite exhilarating for the Telugu film industry. It had a huge role in filling up the film theatres — and not just in the Telugu states. Films made by Telugu filmmakers became the toast of the country, immensely aiding in the recovery of the box office business in India after the debilitating pandemic.

Tollywood superstar Allu Arjun ’s Pushpa: The Rise sprung a surprise across the country, especially in the Hindi belt. The film was released during the Christmas holiday in 2021, and continued its successful run well into the first half of January, with no major challenges at the box office.

Pushpa became a huge hit and turned into a pop-cultural phenomenon. Pushpa, his quirky mannerisms and overly heroic punchlines captured the imaginations of people from house parties to public interest announcements to wedding ceremonies to electoral campaigns. Pushpa dominated the news cycle beyond its successful theatrical run.

While Pushpa was a huge hit in the Hindi belt, the film struggled to break even in its home ground , Andhra Pradesh . Despite running to packed houses since day one, the stringent policy by the state government at the time in regulating the movie ticket prices undercut the profits of the movie. Following the weeks of hard negotiations with the Jagan Mohan Reddy government under the leadership of Tollywood superstar Chiranjeevi, there was a breakthrough in the matter. The government relented and allowed to increase base ticket prices across the cinema halls, allowing the future movies to make profits. And one of the biggest beneficiaries was director SS Rajamouli’s RRR. The Ram Charan-Jr NTR film won accolades not just in India, but internationally too after it came out in Netflix.

Not just on the ticket windows, the Telugu film industry also did deliver a handful of good movies that rewarded the audience who braved the pandemic to sit and cheer in a packed cinema hall. However, the ratio of good movies to bad movies was annoyingly low.

The good ones:

Director SS Rajamouli’s reimagination of a freedom revolt against the British Raj was a much-needed break to the audience after suffering two years of pandemic and everything that it brought with it. The story is set in the 1920s when the British were at the peak of their power in India. The film almost assumes a magical quality with oversized wild animals and two men, who are the paragon of old-school machismo, pulling off some incredible stunts that are beyond the natural and limited strengths of average human beings. It’s fantasy land, where two Indians best the imperial bigots in every aspect. From electrifying dance-offs to shooting rifles to being chivalrous to being cunning and dangerous, the two highly skilled assassins bring the empire to its knees. Ram Charan and Jr NTR breathe life into a pair of perfect mythical heroes dreamt up by Rajamouli.

Major was a passion project for Adivi Sesh , who wrote the film’s screenplay, besides playing the lead role in it. And he gets a little greedy with the project as he packs everything in the film that makes him look good on the screen, and sort of undermines the other aspects of the storytelling that would do full justice to the life and sacrifice of the 26/11 hero Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. The emotional component of the movie is engrossing, even though it is familiar. And a lot of credit should go to Revathy and Prakash Raj. They bring to life the thought process of parents who are unwilling to send away their son to fight at the borders. The film has its flaws but it also has its moments.

Ante Sundaraniki

The structure of the narration is in perfect sync with the personality of its protagonist , Sundar, played by an in-form Nani. The movie tells the romantic story of a couple who belong to different religious backgrounds. Sundar and Leela ( Nazriya Nazim ) belong to conservative families who snark at those who don’t belong to their own community. But, love is blind to religion and all other made-up social differences. The couple is then forced to spin a web of never-ending lies to circumvent the pride and prejudices of their families, resulting in an irrelevant flow of humour, with a pleasant fluency.

Virata Parvam

This film ends up in the best films list by a very thin margin. If not for an endearing and movingly delicate performance from Sai Pallavi, this film would have been beyond saving. She single-handedly makes us care about this film and everything else that happens in it. The film, which is said to be inspired by true events, tells the love story of a brave woman, who takes a life-altering journey into the most unsafe jungles in search of a Naxal leader, who has stolen her heart with his revolutionary poems.

The bad ones:

Sarkaru Vaari Paata

Mahesh Babu plays an NRI character who returns to his homeland to fix its problems. In this edition, he asks people to wake up and smell the systemic corruption, that lets the rich and powerful people rip off the hard-working and decent commoners. The subject of the movie is relevant and even urgent, but the filmmakers throw it away the opportunity by turning this movie into an exercise in hero worship.

This is easily one of the dullest movies to roll out of the Telugu film industry . Every frame and scene in the movie sufferers from director Koratala Siva’s failure to think of something original.

Bangarraju is the follow-up film to Soggade Chinni Nayana. This also appears to be Nagarjuna’s attempt to boost the acting career of Naga Chaitanya . And it raises the question that if Nagarjuna really wanted to help Naga Chaitanya, why would he make him do this film in the first place?

Radhe Shyam

After the humongous success of Baahubali 1 and 2, Prabhas has fallen into a trap of larger-than-life blockbusters. It doesn’t matter how bad the movie is but it needs to be mounted on expansive scale. It doesn’t matter if a movie lacks heart, and soul, as long as it is humongous, Prabhas seems to have no qualms starring in it.

Bheemla Nayak

It is the remake of the Malayalam hit Ayyappanum Koshiyum. Like Vakeel Saab, Pawan Kalyan finds a way to make this film, which was originally a battle of egos that deals with class, social and cultural conflicts, all about himself.

Director Anil Ravipudi is in the process of making F4 it seems. The horror!

Actor Indresh Malik, known for his role as Ustaad ji on the Netflix series Heeramandi, received praise and a reward of Rs 500 from filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his moving performance in the 'nath' sequence. After F3, a small film named Black has hit the screens today. Aadi Sai Kumar plays the lead in this film which not many know released in the first place. Let’s see how it is.

Aditya(Aadi Sai Kumar) and Arjun(Aadi Sai Kumar) are two twins who hate each other. Upset with Aditya, Arjun leaves his house and goes far away. Time flies and Aditya becomes a cop. During one of his night duties, a robbery and murder happen, and Aditya is framed in the case. Aditya comes to know that none other than his brother Arjun has committed this crime and has pushed the blame on him. Who is the actual murderer? How will this murder case be solved? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

Aadi Sai Kumar gets a tailor-made role and has done so well in it. Be it his dialogue delivery, and body language for both the characters, he has done quite well. Heroine Darshana was neat in her role and looked beautiful.

Bigg Boss fame Kaushal played a good role and his acting was effective. The twin brother track, their emotions, and characters linked to the twins have been designed well in the first half. The interval block and sleeping disorder is shown in the film have also been executed well.

Minus Points:

The basic theme of the film had a lot of scope to elevate the proceedings but the director Krishna failed to utilize it. His screenplay is dull and the thrills needed for a crime thriller are completely missing in the film. More drama should have been created as to who is committing the murders but that did not happen.

The hero has a sleeping disorder and this aspect has so many issues. Also, this aspect is dragged way too much and this bores the audience completely. The director tried hard to elevate the suspense in the second half but failed to do so as the thrills showed do not engage at all.

Technical Aspects:

The technical aspects of the film are pretty decent. Suresh Bobbili’s music is one of the main highlights of the film and his BGM also elevated a few scenes. The camera work by Satish was on par with any big film and showcased the visuals in a good light. Coming to the director Krishna, his story is good but his narration was below par.

On the whole, Black is a crime thriller that has a good story but is spoilt with uneven narration. Aadi Sai Kumar is sincere with his act but the proceedings are dull and do not create any impact on the audience leaving them disinterested.
