Why are u offended and which fight scene was ruined? Stope being a feminist and complaining. Women can learn Krav Maga but in most cases will not be able to beat a man. Sure exceptions will happen. Also why are u angry in the female fight scene?because he got beaten up?if he hit those women then feminists would have come with another drama. It's 2023 ubwant women to do Krav Maga but kabir singh can't slap a girl.mwhat hypocricy

Liger Movie review:
This time, I watched Liger, first day first show and oh boy, the response from the audience was quite enthralling. Fans were whistling and hooting the moment they saw Vijay Deverakonda in his best elements. In fact, a fan next to my seat was screaming so much, that my ears started to hurt. The film starts on a high note but the climax falls flat on its face. I really don’t want to bash Liger in this review but I’ll try my best to be nice to this movie. First – all the action sequences look absolutely thrilling and well choreographed. Second – when it comes to the story, is poorly and abysmally written. Third- the songs are pretty groovy but misplaced in the entire movie. In fact, they look quite forced to me.
Fourth- the climax looks absurd as if someone just hit the pause button and closed the window. It looks a little childish. Fifth- Ananya Panday and Vijay Deverakonda’s chemistry looks broken and faulty. I didn’t feel like watching them more. Sixth- Once again going to talk about the fights because they really enticed me. Given the fact that I absolutely enjoy action, the MMA fight sequence is my favourite in the entire movie. Similar fights were shown in Dharma Productions’ Brothers starring Sidharth Malhotra and Akshay Kumar as well as in YRF’s Sultan which I thoroughly enjoyed. Well, I have a similar feeling with Liger as well.
A story about martial arts, dreams and star-crossed lovers. Liger is an MMA fighter who trains hard and rises up the ranks with one goal in mind, to fight like his idol, world-renowned MMA fighter Mark Anderson and get noticed by him. In the course, he falls in love with a girl name Tanya and breaks his heart which only leads to achieving his goals. But will he achieve his goals? Does he become the ultimate champion? Well, that is what the Liger movie is all about.

Star Performances:
Vijay Deverakonda makes his big Bollywood debut with Liger. He essays the role of an MMA fighter who rises up from the ashes and creates a name for himself. Talking about his performance, as Ananya quotes in the film, Vijay delivers a full ‘paisa vasool’ and a ‘seeti maar’ performance. He shines in all the fighting scenes as if the MMA fighter fire has always been ignited in him and now he got the platform to showcase that in full glory. Since I enjoy MMA fighting and WWE, I was thoroughly enjoying his fighting sequences. Even though I don’t watch MMA fighting or WWE closely, Vijay quite adapted the techniques and fighting style nicely if not perfectly. It’s been done beautifully. Vijay is shown as a stammer and to be honest, in some parts, it seems like he is trying hard to make it look natural but comes out quite abruptly. In fact, in one scene, he speaks so fluently that I was wondering did the director or the actor forget that the character is a stammer.
Ananya Panday essays the role of the spoiled brat named Tanya who is a big shot and wants to become a huge social media influencer. She has a brief role and plays her part well but her character was crassly written. In fact, to be honest, I don’t even see the point of Ananya’s character in the movie, she has nothing to offer neither in the story nor with her acting skills. At some parts, it seems like the director just wants to remind the audience that Ananya is a part of the film as her role is so brief.
The two characters or I would say the actors who absolutely stole the limelight after Vijay are Ronit Roy and Ramya Krishnan. Ronit as his coach is tough and delivers a strong performance while Ramya brings out her Sivagami stance and poise in the film. Her big expressive eyes and strong dialogue delivery will surely remind you of Baahubali’s Sivagami but I like how she adds the fun element to this character.
Mike Tyson, the iconic boxer makes a cameo in Liger and oh boy, what a waste. His cameo was a dud and not impressive at all.

Direction/screenplay:
I really don’t have many complaints about the direction but it is the screenplay that was problematic. First of all, I feel the plot is quite lethargic. It seems like the director Puri Jagannadh who is also the writer of the film has written the film in the most disinteresting way possible. From the character sketch to the plot, oh wait, there’s no story in Liger. If the man wants to be the best International champion, show his journey, his struggle and his achievements instead of him dancing on the beach and in pubs with a girl who doesn’t seem relevant to the story as well. I’m sure Vijay could have easily carried this film on his shoulder, no offence, Ananya.
In order to add commercial value to the film, Jagannadh seems to have lost his way to write a good story. Yes, there are some dialogues and scenes that will surely make you whistle but someone like me who really enjoys a movie with a good story didn’t get that in this masala-loaded film.
The other thing that really bothered me is the placement of songs. Some are really unwanted, there are some that just start in the middle of the scene, disrupting the continuity of the film. I was like why is there a song? As a matter of fact, the song placement was pretty disturbing.
Conclusion:
In totality, Vijay Deverakonda looks absolutely dashing with his long locks and chiselled body. He shines in all the fighting scenes as this character was tailor-made for him. Vijay, Ramya Krishnan, Ronit Roy and the ring fights are the only good thing that I enjoyed in the film, rest ne dimaag ki waat laga di. Lazy writing, weak story and poor execution don’t make Liger a delightful watch. Nevertheless, if you’re a Vijay, I can see you dancing to his every swag and his every killer dance move. You’re definitely in for a treat but if you’re like me who is looking for a good story, powered by good performance, it might disappoint you.

Liger Anusha Kala, April 17, 2023
- Times Of India
critic's rating: 2.5/5 Liger is supposed to be South superstar Vijay Deverakonda’s big Bollywood debut. Does he really need it, considering his dubbed films are already a hit over OTT? The film was unfortunately stuck in production hell, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, and one can see that the gaps really affected it. It doesn’t live up to the hype it generated. Vijay Deverakonda has a certain screen presence and can surely act; there has never been any dispute about that. And he underwent an amazing physical transformation to look like a professional MMA fighter. Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) is called that because his father, who was a fighter himself, was called Lion Balaram. His mother, Balamani (Ramya Krishna), identifies herself as a tigress, so he’s a crossbreed between a lion and a tiger, hence Liger, get it? Balamani sure is a tiger mom who wants her son to be even bigger and better than his father. So she lands up in Mumbai and requests a famed MMA coach, played by Ronit Roy, to take him as a pupil. Liger is so naturally gifted that he beats up all the students of his master on the first try. Both his coach and his mother, time and again, tell him to stay away from women, but he predictably falls in love with a spoiled rich brat, Tanya (Ananya Panday), who is a social media influencer. Though, in a hilarious twist, she rejects him because he suffers from a speech disorder. But wait, near the end, it’s revealed that she was only acting to hate him, so he’ll hate her and that hate will fuel his ambition to be the number one MMA fighter. Talk about reverse psychology or something. In due course of time, Liger becomes the national champion, and then, thanks to a rich patron, lands in America for the international championship. The patron's daughter, who turns out to be Tanya, gets kidnapped, so Liger goes on a rescue mission, obviously. And lo and behold, the man behind the kidnapping turns out to be Liger’s childhood hero, Mark Henderson (Mike Tyson), the former undisputed MMA heavyweight champion. By this time, things get so convoluted that you really don’t care what’ll be served up next. The fight choreography is excellent indeed. Whether it’s the fight scenes in the gym, in the ring, or with Mike Tyson, every fight sequence is crafted intelligently. Though it's hard to fathom how Vijay Deverakonda can beat someone as huge and solid as Mike Tyson. Still, the action scenes are slick and the best thing about the film. And Vijay Deverakonda has worked hard to get his kicks, punches, and fighting stance right. He looks every inch an MMA fighter. But even his well-oiled, well-muscled shoulders aren’t enough to save this film from faltering. Ramya Krishnan shows spark in her role as the mother, Ronit Roy tries hard to channel his inner Mr. Miyagi, and Ananya Panday tries to be the cool influencer but is done in by bad writing. All-in-all, Liger is a case of missed opportunities. Vijay Deverakonda is a genuine star and certainly could have hoped for a better film than Liger to be his Bollywood debut. Even his infinite charm and dedication aren’t enough to uplift it.

Neeshita nyayapati, august 25, 2022, 10:00 pm ist.
Liger Story: A chai wala from Mumbai wants to make it big in the sport of MMA. But when he falls in love, his life takes a turn. Liger Review: Puri Jagannadh’s Liger had so much hype surrounding it before release, there’s only two ways it could’ve gone. Either it would go on to become a massive hit or tank spectacularly. Seeing as how the film fails to offer anything novel, beyond Vijay Deverakonda’s new buff body, it’s not hard to guess how it fared. The foul-mouthed, stammering, Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) is brought up by a single mom Balamani (Ramya Krishnan) who wants her son to become an MMA fighter, jeet kune do in particular, much like his father. She takes him to Mumbai to train under a famous coach (Ronit Roy) in hope that he wins the national championships. So this film is a sports drama, right? Nope. Despite being asked to stay focused, Liger falls for a social media influencer called Tanya (Ananya Panday) who pursues him relentlessly after she sees him fight. The only issue? She’s the sister of his nemesis Sanju (Vishu). So, this is the love story of a rich girl and a poor boy, right? Nope. Then there’s Mark Anderson (Mike Tyson), Liger's childhood hero, who’s brought into the fold in the most outlandish manner. Then this is mindless commercial cinema, right? Yes, unfortunately it’s not a very good one. Puri has never been high on logic but he makes his characters so…‘stupid’, as Mike calls Liger in one scene, you can’t help but wonder why smarter writing wasn’t involved. Despite being the sister of a martial artist, Tanya calls Liger ‘Chinese’ for fighting the way he does, calls his martial art form ‘kung fu’ and is so surprised to see him land kicks. Are we to believe she never saw her own brother fight in a ring or even knows which martial art he practices? Balamani warns her son to stay away from ‘ deyyalu ’ (demons), categorising women as beautiful temptresses who’ll ruin his life. The way these scenes are written makes you cringe. While it’s good that Puri holds back from going all out on the misogyny (a teeny tiny little bit), as he’s usually prone to do, he can’t help but ruin one well-choreographed fight scene involving women and one which sees Ananya and her friends with crass dialogues. Also, why is a professional MMA fighter surprised that women can krav maga in 2022? Putting lack of logic aside, Liger fails to leave a mark because there’s simply no innovativeness in the way it’s written. The film follows the usual template of a sports drama, mixed with commercial cinema – which is fine, but it just isn’t done well. Sunil Kashyap’s background score and Vishnu Sharma’s camerawork are stylish, but that too doesn’t hold your interest for long. Vijay dances his heart out in Akdi Pakdi and Coka 2.0 but the songs are a misfit in a tale like this one. Rest of the songs, especially the problematic Aafat are a miss, so are some of the fight scenes. Even Liger's stammering is used as a convenient plot device. Coming to the only good part about this film - Vijay Deverakonda. His dialogues, especially because he stammers, might be a hit-and-miss but the actor sure brings sincerity to his role. Liger, his character, is very one-toned. The way his coach and mom (the latter more than the former) are prone to give long speeches, you wonder if the character will go through any growth, which never happens. Despite being a chai wala from Mumbai, doors conveniently open for him when needed, making his ‘struggle’ not much of it. And despite all that, Vijay doesn’t just look fit and handsome; he makes you want to root for the character. It’s sad the material doesn’t let you do that. Ramya Krishnan is cast as the supportive mother, but she screams a lot. Ananya Panday looks cute but there’s clearly a lot of improvement to be done when it comes to acting. Getup Srinu is hilarious in some scenes, despite the silly dialogues handed to him. Ali, Ronit Roy, Vishu and rest of the cast are plain okay. Mike Tyson's much-hyped cameo is a let-down but there's a very meta ear biting scene written in there for fans. No one buys that ending though. It’s ironic that Liger is asked to focus multiple times in the film, but the script itself lacks the same focus. Things just keep happening for no rhyme or reason and Puri fails to deliver a satisfactory conclusion to any of the tracks. Vijay deserved better, so did we. As the filmmakers promised, watt laga diy a , but not in a good way.

Liger movie review: Vijay Deverakonda tries hard but can't save you from this assault on your senses
Liger movie review: vijay deverakonda's bollywood debut is devoid of any coherent plot, performances, or action that does not involve the hero strutting in slow-motion..
An MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) match is about to begin. The referee has announced the name of the fighter from India as the 'Slumdog from the streets of Mumbai', and the waving tricolour has evoked a sense of patriotism already. And then we see the hero running on the street of Las Vegas trying to save the woman of his life from a bunch of goons. Vijay Deverakonda has a line right in the beginning of the film -- 'Main kahaani sunane mein kamzor hoon, fir bhi try karunga'. I wish the makers of Liger heard this over and over again before making this film and I bet they'd have realised that it shouldn't have been made. They're no better than Vijay's character in narrating the story, or wait, is there any story at all? Also read: Liger Twitter review: Fans calls Vijay Deverakonda film wasted opportunity
Vijay's acting chops, his good looks and chiselled body couldn't salvage this assault on senses which was nothing short of an embarrassment. With a screenplay so juvenile, story without a head or a tail, direction limited to showing the hero's moves in slo-mo, director Puri Jagannadh's Liger is extremely flawed and below average for the hype it created. By the time first half is over, you genuinely start to feel bad for its lead actor, who God knows was in what frame of mind when he decided to make his Hindi-film debut with Liger.
The film revolves around this young guy, Liger (Vijay) and his widowed mother Balamani ( Ramya Krishnan ), who have come from Telangana to Mumbai because she wants to see her son become a national MMA champion. Balamani roars for unexplained reasons. Or no, she mentions her late husband, Balram was a lion who died during a fight and she's a tigress, hence, their son Liger is a crossbreed between Lion and Tiger. Funny? No, it isn't TBH. Moving on, Liger manages to get under the wings of his MMA coach (Ronit Roy), who lays down the rules clearly and at the top it is staying focussed and away from girls. And then enters Tanya ( Ananya Panday ), who falls for Liger after seeing him thrashing 10 men. That's it, that's the story. And it doesn't go anywhere from here.
Liger is loud from the word go. Be it the characters, action in the ring or background music - it's all screeching in your ears non-stop for 140 minutes. One thing that's evident from the start is that Bollywood doesn't seem to learn its mistakes. How many times has portraying characters with disabilities such as speech impairment put filmmakers into trouble and Liger is no different. It shamelessly ridicules it's stuttering protagonist and it's rather distasteful at times. For instance, when Vijay tries to say his name for the first time, if you don't see him, you'd actually feel he's trying to mimic Suniel Shetty. After a point, it started to seem as if the makers didn't want Vijay to say many dialogues because his Hindi isn't as fluent and clear. So much for a pan-India film. I mean, I really waited for one good scene where I'd watch him say a few lines without other characters interruptingn, but it never happens. In terms of performance, no matter how good Vijay looks in every frame and brings his best to the table, the poorly written script with even worse execution terribly fails him.
Also, Vijay has had his share of troubles with Arjun Reddy that was tagged problematic and misogynist but Liger hasn't really learnt a lesson there either. A scene when Liger holds Tanya by collar and then pushes her, or how a girl is unapologetically referred to as a 'chudail' only reek of sexism and deep-rooted problems in the mindset. They try to balance it by cleverly placing a reference to Kabir Singh (Arjun Reddy's Hindi remake) and how men are egoistic and can't take no from a girl.
Talking of Vijay and Ananya's chemistry, there's none. They looked better together while promoting the film that they look on screen. While Vijay lovingly looks at her during the dance sequences, Ananya is only concerned about the camera and chemistry can RIP.
For Ananya, I don't know if she was told what she had to do in the film. Where was the acting? Was it overacting? Was she being herself? Was she trying to be cool? Or dumb? I don't know. I'm confused. Maybe, she just needs to take some serious lessons in acting, so we know she knows the craft. In Liger, her track, scenes, her dialogues, the way they're said - everything seems a joke to say the least.
How can I not mention about the beautifully choreographed and elaborate song and dance sequences in Liger. Well, Ananya Panday's outfit changes were the only fair justification to me why there were such pathetically misplaced songs that were thrown when the story didn't seem to move anywhere. Something is happening in one scene and suddenly the actors break into a glamorous song and dance sequence. Ridiculous.
Ramya Krishnan doesn't seem to have come out of her Shivagami mode from Baahubali. She is roaring and yelling her lungs out in almost every scene. However, her scenes with Vijay are endearing and the mother-son story at the core could have added value to the narrative. Ronit Roy delivers a decent act in the little part he has to play in Liger's journey.
The climax brings the much hyped cameo of Mike Tyson playing a fictional character called Mark Henderson and that, I feel, was the only saving grace. That one fight between Vijay and Mike, I wish, was the main story and maybe the film would have been somewhat different.
Watch it only if you're a Vijay Deverakonda fan, but even then, you'll come out feeling sorry for him.

Loo Break: You’d basically do the same thing that the makers have done in this film i.e. unload the crap
Watch or Not?: Only if you cherish the “so bad that it’s good” genre of films
Available On: Theatrical Release
Runtime: 140 Minutes
While chasing the devil of his life Tanya_TheStar (Ananya Panday), Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) takes us in a flashback (which you’d soon regret) to tell the story of why is he doing what he’s doing. So, he admires Mark Anderson (Mike Tyson), a fighter and wants to learn MMA. He has a daddy issue connect as well with the sport & his mother uses that to make the teaching freely available to him.
Something happens, Tanya_TheStar leaves Liger heartbroken which motivates him to beat MMA fighters around the world as *Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar* played in my mind. This 140-minute-long TikTok video doesn’t end here because how would you justify Tanya_TheStar leaving Liger? Well, that’s what leads to Mike Tyson giving the worst performance of his career both inside and outside the ring.
Liger Movie Review: Script Analysis
Liger, a crossbreed between a Lion & a Tigress, stammers while he speaks & it’d be really interesting to see how the people who bashed Aamir Khan’s autism in Laal Singh Chaddha will react to this. There was this guy in front of me, playing Candy Crush throughout the film and I think he comparatively had a more productive time. Puri Jagannadh’s story and screenplay are nothing but a montage of multiple cliched scenes getting worse as the film proceeds.
The scattered screenplay not only defies every means of logic but also clarifies the fact that “a sh*tty film can get me made in any language.” This makes a film like Shamshera look like a decent attempt at storytelling and you guys can read here what I had to say about that film. Nothing, from the purpose of the lead character’s existence to the conflicts he faces, comes across as natural. Everything is so artificial that you won’t mind considering botox as a natural option after watching this.
Liger Movie Review: Star Performance
Vijay Deverakonda seems to be a reasonable guy with his public appearances, don’t understand how someone like him could not only greenlight something like this but also act horribly in it. He just overdoes the stuttering part of his character to an extent that you’d feel offended even if you don’t stammer while talking. The angst of his character just doesn’t come across as natural in any way due to the disastrous story & screenplay.
Post films like Khaali Peeli, and Gehraiyaan , I was just starting to lean towards Ananya Panday’s choices of films & then she goes back to doing worse than her career’s worst Student Of The Year 2. She plays an Instagram influencer who aspires to be an actress in Hollywood, why wasn’t I informed before that Ananya is playing herself in the film? Her character is as useless to the story as her talent of touching her nose with her tongue.
I’m sure Karan Johar has some dirt on Mike Tyson or why would somebody as huge as him (literally!) agree to tarnish whatever he has done built for this? If I had to compare International stars’ collaboration with Indian stars, Brett Lee did a better job in the song Haan Main Tumhara Hoon with Asha Bhosle in 2006. Hell, even Ben Kingsley in Teen Patti would outshine Tyson’s character.
Rohit Roy, Ramya Krishna, Chunky Panday & Vishu Reddy are collective victims of getting characters which make no sense in any scene whatsoever.
Liger Movie Review: Direction, Music
Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger says at the start “I don’t know how to narrate a story properly,” & that’s the only true line Puri Jagannadh has directed in this film. To be honest, my biggest complaint isn’t that the movie makes zero sense because I love movies even if they don’t (eg. Housefull 4), but this doesn’t even try to entertain you. From jingoism to machoism, Puri Jagannadh fills these irreplaceable cliches.
Sunil Kashyap’s background score remains the best thing about the film as it at least tries to fulfil its purpose & that’s the lowest bar to touch for every department of Liger. The less we talk about its songs, the better.
Liger Movie Review: The Last Word
All said and done, it hurts to see projects such as this making it to the theatres even in 2022. I understand cinema is subjective & this is my just opinion: “Please start making films for moviegoers, instead of just fans.”

Liger movie review: Vijay Deverakonda film is a cringe-fest of mammoth proportions
Liger movie review: it boggles the mind that filmmakers still think today’s audiences are willing to swallow utter rubbish in the name of entertainment..
So, first off, in case you were wondering, ‘Liger’ is what you get when a lion and a tiger mate. Got it? Not really? Never mind, here’s a ready reckoner of what to expect from the new Vijay Deverakonda flick, directed by Puri Jagannadh, made in Hindi and Telugu. Ready? Here you go. A kickboxer (Vijay Deverakonda) adorned by a series of boxer shorts and a bronzed, muscled chest, has a couple of markers — a mother (Ramya Krishnanstill in her shouty‘Bahubali’ mode), and a stutter. The mom is a latter-day Mother India type, full of fire and brimstone. The speech impairment may make Liger a slow speaker, but there’s nothing wrong with his cross-breed stripes. He jabs and kicks, feints and lunges, as he readies himself for his big break, which will allow him and his mentor (Ronit Roy) to make India proud in the global arena.
That was the nutshell. Breaking it open, the age-old themes of fierce-mother-loving-son twinning with macho chest-thumping sporty patriotism is used to roll out a cringe-fest of mammoth proportions. What do you want first: character upon character dissing the stutterer for, wait, stuttering (yes, that’s right), or the romantic interest who is all set to compete for the most vapid, vacuous female character (Ananya Panday) in recent times, or a mother who roars louder than her son? It boggles the mind that filmmakers still think today’s audiences are willing to swallow utter rubbish in the name of entertainment. Where do they live?
Don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing more pleasurable than a masala movie done right. But there’s nothing new or fresh about the ingredients that go into the making of this film: mixed martial arts, snarling boxers, tough-as-nail trainers, and the hero who will pulp everyone single-handedly has been around of years. for years. This excuse-for-a-plot is filled with all kinds of outlandish situations; the treatment is beyond pathetic. The insensitive poking-fun-at-the-guy who stutters is downright distasteful (at one time he’s called a ‘stammering buffoon’ in the English subtitle), and the creation of the leading lady is not just a sexist misfire, it is positively Neanderthal. Who in their right minds will have a female character say, ‘guys look at girls from bottom-up’, AND have the heroine simper at this line? Anyone heard of misogyny?
You feel bad for Ronit Roy, who can, given a chance, be a treat. Last seen, he was comprehensively wasted in the terrible ‘Shamshera’. Here, he is stuck in the cliched mode of the flint-eyed teacher who has the best interests of his student at heart. Ditto for Chunky Panday, who used to be the best thing in his bad 90s movies. What is he even doing here? Can someone give these guys roles worthy of their talent?
The action, in the ring, is about the only thing that seems to have been shot with focus, but it is creakingly unoriginal. Other bouts are shoved in at random intervals to show off our hero’s moves: one includes a bevy of female Krav Maga experts (don’t ask), and another takes us to a ranch (told you, don’t ask), where Liger gets to face off with his idol, MMA artist Mark Anderson (Mike Tyson hamming it up happily). Deverakonda, never straying too far from his Arjun Reddy character, is all hot-eyed and limber and loose-limbed, and makes us watch. But to have a character praise his performance as ‘full paisa-vasool’? Basically, that’s ‘Liger’ high-fiving ‘Liger’. Seriously?

Liger Hindi Movie Review: कॉन्फिडेंस पर भारी पड़ा विजय देवरकोंडा का टशन, अनन्या पांडे फिल्म की सबसे कमजोर कड़ी
Link Copied

Puri Jagannadh is the writer and director of the 2022 Indian Hindi-language sports action film Liger – Saala Crossbreed. The movie, which was co-produced by Puri Connects and Dharma Productions, was shot concurrently in Telugu and Hindi. American boxer Mike Tyson makes a lengthy cameo appearance in the movie, which stars Vijay Deverakonda as the title MMA fighter “Liger” with a stammering issue. Ananya Panday plays his love interest, and Ramya Krishna and Ronit Roy play important roles.
The movie’s 2019 announcement was followed by the January 2021 announcement of the title, Liger. Deverakonda makes his Hindi film debut in Liger, while Panday makes his Telugu film debut. Tanishk Bagchi, Sunil Kashyap, DJ Chetas, Lijo George, Vikram Montrose, and Jaani are the songwriters of the songs.
Principal photography began in January 2020 and suffered production delays after March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming resumed in February 2021 and after some other shooting suspensions in the pandemic, Liger was wrapped up in February 2022.
Liger was released theatrically on 25 August 2022 and was a critical and commercial failure.[5][6][7] The film became a box office disaster, with an estimated box office gross of ₹60.80 crore (US$7.6 million) against a budget of ₹90 crore (US$11 million) to ₹125 crore (US$16 million)
After his father, Lion Balram Agarwal’s death, in the MMA National Championship, Sashwath Agarwal aka Liger and his mother Balamani move to Mumbai from Karimnagar. Balamani is determined to turn Liger into a MMA champion and takes him to a coach named Christopher, who trains him. While Liger is on his way to perfection in the sport, he meets a rich young woman, Tanya, and falls in love with her. After learning from her brother Sanju that Liger has a stammering problem, Tanya, apparently embarrassed, leaves him. Liger wins the national championship after getting motivated by the rejection. He moves on to participate in the International Championship, sponsored by Sanju and Tanya’s father.

Liger Movie Review: Due to a bizarre narrative and poor writing LIGER fails to impress.
Liger fails to impress due to its silly and bizarre narrative and poor writing., liger review {1.5/5} & review rating.
LIGER is the story of a born fighter. Liger ( Vijay Deverakonda ) shifts to Mumbai with his mother Balamani (Ramya Krishnan) from Banaras and both start running a tea stall. However, their real intent in shifting to the city is to meet Christopher (Ronit Roy). He runs a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training centre. Balamani requests Christopher to train Liger, that too for free. Christopher rejects the demand at first. But Balamani reminds him that Liger is the son of Lion Balram, a famous fighter who had defeated Christopher in 2004 and who later died. She also insists that since she is unable to afford his fees, Christopher can hire Liger as his servant. Christopher agrees but under two conditions – firstly, Liger should not lose focus, and secondly, he should not run behind women. Liger agrees. Christopher soon realizes that Liger is an expert fighter and can fulfil his father’s wish of winning the national championship. However, Liger bumps into Taniya ( Ananya Panday ) and both begin a romantic relationship. Liger has a heavy stammer and he fears that Taniya might not be aware of it. Hence, once, when they are partying in a pub, Liger confesses to her. But Taniya, in an inebriated state, tells Liger that she doesn’t mind his stammering. Meanwhile, Taniya and Balamani one day get into a fight. Balamani gets the shock of her life when she realizes that Liger is in love with the girl whom she hates the most. Even Christopher admonishes him. Liger is so crazy in love that he doesn’t pay heed. When Taniya tells him to elope, to which, Liger readily agrees. He breaks into her house and runs with her. Taniya’s brother and fellow MMA championship aspirant Sanju (Vishu Reddy) chases them and confronts Liger. Sanju expresses shock that Taniya fell for a man who can’t even speak fluently. This is when Taniya realizes that Liger stammers. Though Liger had told her the truth, she was so sloshed that she didn’t remember. Hence, she dumps him. What happens next forms the rest of the film.
Puri Jagannadh's story (co-written by Karan Thatavarthy, A R Sreedhar) is clichéd. There have been many such underdog sports films in the past and LIGER offers nothing new in this regard. Puri Jagannadh's screenplay is intended to be massy and commercial. A few scenes here and there are well thought out. But overall, the film is peppered with very silly moments, and the writing nosedives in the second half. Prashant Pandey's Hindi dialogues are okay.
Puri Jagannadh's direction is not up to the mark. To give credit where it’s due, he has handled a few scenes well like Liger’s intro fight, Taniya sneaking into Liger’s home, Liger’s first fight with Chirstopher’s MMA trainers and Liger’s fight on the train. But the scenes in the rest of the film don't impress as they are not well etched or are plain bizarre, like Taniya not realizing that her boyfriend has a stammering condition. In places, Puri even leaves gaps and straight away jumps the narrative. A few scenes are such that viewers would wonder how they got approved.
LIGER starts on an intriguing note and with stylishly presented opening credits. A few opening scenes are fine but as mentioned above, the poor direction spoils things. For instance, the police station scene is never shown after the local train sequence. Secondly, how did Liger break into Taniya’s house and escape with her is simply implied but would have had a better impact if it was depicted. On the other hand, audiences are bewildered when Christopher slams Sanju for not having ethics. However, Christopher’s own student started the fight with Sanju’s men by flashing the middle finger! Then the scene where Taniya alleges that Liger is being a drama queen would leave viewers astonished as she is the one who left him. The intermission point will also shock the audience for its senselessness. Though there’s a reason why Taniya dumps Liger and that is unveiled later on, it still doesn’t make for a convincing watch. One hopes for the film to get better in the second half. Sadly, it’s so bad that viewers would realize that the first half was better. The way Liger wins the national championship and then even reaches international shores to fight the international league seemed like a cakewalk. The last act, involving Taniya’s kidnapping and the scene with Mark Anderson (Mike Tyson), is unimpressive. The fight scene with the women fighters served no purpose. The film ends on an abrupt note as Liger forgets about winning the international championship after he meets Mark Anderson.
Coka 2.0 | Liger | Vijay Deverakonda, Ananya Panday
Vijay Deverakonda has put in a lot of hard work. He looks quite dashing and tries to rise above the script. Ananya Panday is given to play a very childish character. Ramya Krishnan is okay but she is seen shouting in the film a lot, and for no reason. Mike Tyson is strictly okay in the cameo. Ronit Roy leaves a mark. Vishu Reddy is over the top as the typical villain. Ali (Ali bhai) is average. Makarand Deshpande is too loud. Chunky Panday is fine. Getup Srinu (Ganpath) is funny.
The music doesn’t work as it’s not of chartbuster variety. 'Aafat' is the most memorable of the lot followed by 'Waat Laga Denge'. 'Manchali' is well picturized. 'Akdi Pakdi' and 'Coka 2.0' are forced into the narrative. 'Attack' is relegated to the background. Sunil Kashyap's background score has a commercial feel.
Vishnu Sarma's cinematography is neat. Kecha Khamphakdee and Andy Long's action is quite good, especially in the first half. Jonny Shaik Basha's production design is rich. Anil Paduri's VFX is appropriate. Junaid Siddiqui's editing is fine.
On the whole, LIGER fails to impress due to its silly and bizarre narrative and poor writing. At the box office, it will have a tough time attracting the audience to cinemas.
