F3 Review: 'F'arce Comedy With 'F'un And 'F'ashion

F3 Review: 'F'arce Comedy With 'F'un And 'F'ashion

Movie: F3 Rating: 2.75/5 Cast: Venkatesh, Varun Tej, Tamannah, Mehreen Pirzada, Sunil, Sonal Chouhan, Vennela Kishore, Rajendra Prasad etc Cinematography: Sai Sri Ram Editing: Tammiraju Music: Devi Sri Prasad Producer: Sirish Director: Anil Ravipudi Released on: 27th May 2022

'F3', the sequel of the most acclaimed comedy film 'F2' has seen the light today. The trailer and the songs from this film pulled the attention. The pre-release events made enough noise to turn the heads of the audience.

Let us see what is in it.

Story: The owner of JK Group of Companies (Murali Sharma) is a rich industrialist from Vijayanagaram. He knows the value of money and respects it. He misses his son and spends time seeing his childhood photograph. He shares his wish to see his son coming back to him, to the people around him.

On the other hand a frustrated man (Venkatesh) keeps on becoming a fool by giving loans to the family of Manga Tiffin Center (Tamanna and Co). Raghu Babu is his sidekick.

Another young man (Varun Tej) aims at marrying a rich girl (Mehreen) and falls in her trap.

Then the story runs into many twists and turns with multiple characters coming into picture.

Who is the son of Vijayanagaram industrialist? Will he come back? That forms the climax.

Artistes' Performance: Venkatesh looked energetic and hilarious. His trademark comedy with sharp dialogue delivery worked well. He has shown his agility in matching his pace equally with the young actors. But his night blindness element is not used properly.

Varun Tej could bring in some laughs with his stammering act. He is not as effective as in F2.

Tamanna was arrested for her glamor. She is surely one of the main elements in the success of F2 as well. The X factor of Tamannah is rightly utilized.

Mehreen is glamorous and the other special attractions are Sonal in a short role and Pooja hegde in a special number.

Murali Sharma is composed. The Satya and Sampath track is interesting but didn't last longer.

On the whole, we see many characters from F2 but everyone has a different role which has got no connection to the prequel at all.

Technical Expertise: Camera work is impressive, editing is sharp enough and the music is ok. 'Dabbu' song is interesting but some lyrics are not heard clearly due to cacophony in orchestration and mixing.

Woo Aa Aha Aha song is a visual spectacle with glamor masala.

The script writing is completely intended to do a farce comedy and so it proves illogical to think about logic in any part.

Highlights: Artistes' performances Comedy track  Glamor dose

Drawbacks: Overdose of unbelievability  Too many liberties

Analysis: This is a film made with the comedy generated by illogical scenes on the lines of typical EVV comedies like 'Evadi Gola Vaadidi' coated with some incredible scenes from the films like 'Kobbari Matta'.

We tend to recall some yesteryears' films while passing through some scenes and tracks.

The introduction of Mehreen reminds us of the Pakeeza track from 'Assembly Rowdy'. The 'return of sons' scene resembles the famous track from Chirajeevi's 'Chantabbai'.

Though the idea of the tracks hold some resemblance with the old films, the treatment and progress is completely written originally.

Though promoted as a sequel to F2, the story of the relations among the characters comprises no continuity. Everything is fresh and the characters are different.

Though the comedy should be enjoyed keeping the logic aside, at times the scenes where the characters are not hurt in spite of digging the knives into bellies are something over the board. The unbelievable aspect in such scenes puts down the entertainment factor.

While F2 was managed with two glamorous heroines, the director doubled the impact with four beauties this time. Though Sonal Chouhan's character is small, she showcased her beauty in a duet with Tamannah. Pooja Hegde shines in a special number.

The climax fight with the dialogues related to OTT platforms reminds us of EVV and is dealt with a hilarious note by Anil Ravipudi.

The target audience for this film are surely the families that made F2 a huge hit. It will be like watching a circus show with clowning acts of some characters and a visual feast of glam dolls. The unbelievability factors and some over the board tracks may put down some audience.

To conclude with an analogy, director Anil Ravipudi jumped from a height of ten feet with F2 and the audience received showering collections. With over enthusiasm, this time he jumped from 25 feet. It takes time to understand if he breaks the legs of the film or makes the collections more than or on par with that of F2.

F3 Movie Review: A laugh riot

Rating: ( 3 / 5).

Anil Ravipudi, a director best known for dishing out comedy entertainers with a mix of action, drama, and romance, used money as an element to attract his audience in his latest release F3: Fun and Frustration . The film tells the story of two greedy men Venky (Venkatesh), and Varun (Varun Tej), who believe money is important and is the only quick fix to their problems. And, Anil, thankfully, didn't disappoint the movie buffs. F3 , the second film in the fun franchise of F2 , is one of those films, which make you laugh out loud. In fact, the film comes off as a breath of fresh air after watching a couple of mindless action entertainers.

Cast: Venkatesh, Varun Tej, Tamannaah, Mehreen, Murli Sharma Director: Anil Ravipudi While F2 explored the frustration of married men, F3 is all about money. Honestly, the film has no real story to speak of, at best a wafer-thin line about how a man's (here men) greed leads to misery. Hence the director often relies on slapstick humour to keep the momentum going and he succeeds to make you laugh with a lot of wisecracks. Like its predecessor, much of the film's comedy is derived from the situations, actors, and their interactions. Prepare to laugh your guts in that scene in which Venky, Varun, and Paul Baby (Ali) realise that they were betrayed by the supremely guileful women (Pragati, Y Vijaya, Annapoorna, Tamannaah, Mehreen), with the latter repeating their ideas of scamming people. The film is enjoyable in the first hour and does get a little tiring towards the second half, especially of the ways Anand Prasad (Murli Sharma), a business tycoon and the owner of the JK group of companies, tries several ways to deduce his real heir. It's at this stage we have to keep recollecting and connecting the scenes to Chiranjeevi's Chantabbai (1986), which also runs on a similar thread. These sequences also make us believe that the film is steeped in 1980s naivete and old-fashioned melodrama. The film doesn't take itself too seriously and the script, at times, veers down a predictable path. (A feeling similar to Virat Kohli enduring his century drought!) Nevertheless, F3 has many moments of unadulterated humour that try to get a good laugh out of you. It's to Anil's credit that he connects all the stories competently, leaving nothing incomplete and with no character feeling cheated. Of the leads, it's unarguably Venkatesh who emerges the star of the film, having mastered the art of using gestures and expressions his way in and out of tricky situations. He is cast as an RTO agent suffering from night blindness and he lit up the screen with his trademark humour. Credit to Anil Ravipudi for perfectly mining the family-hero image of Venkatesh and exploring his strength to the fullest. Venky was perfectly complemented by Varun Tej, who plays a man with a stutter. Together, they brought the audience to their feet. Take their faceoff with the five women, taming a bull as a test, or even that scene in which they try to cheat one another with hapless plans or their imitation of Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu's popular lines from Gabbar Singh and Sarileru Neekevvaru or their satirical take on the rise of OTT space — it is these moments and many other that make F3 such a pleasure to watch. Murli Sharma, as Anand Prasad, gets a good role and he delivers a competent performance. One of his lines, “ Prapanchaniki telisina pancha bhoothalu aidu, kani aaro bhootham okati undi...adhe dabbu (The world knows only of five natural elements, there is however a sixth bhootham and that is money)” strikes a chord with the audience. Tamannaah is impressive in her portions, especially in the second hour. Mehreen doesn't get any scope to perform and she goes missing in some of the key portions of the film. Sunil returns to his vintage self, while Vennela Kishore, Ali, Rajendra Prasad, Pradeep, and Pragati lend support in substantial roles. Sonal Chauhan and Pooja Hegde add the glamour quotient and they are alright. Devi Sri Prasad disappoints big time with his songs and background score. F3: Fun and Frustration is a consistently enjoyable film that's more surefooted than its predecessor. I am sure you will break into plenty of laughs seeing Venky and Varun at the top of the things. And yes, there's F4 on cards too!

F3 movie review: Venkatesh shoulders this wacky comic caper that delivers on its promise for the most part

Director Anil Ravipudi's latest outing is funnier and less frustrating than its prequel F2

F3 movie review: Venkatesh shoulders this wacky comic caper that delivers on its promise for the most part

Varun, a youngster, in the company of his uncle, takes up lowly, odd jobs for a living. Venky is a frustrated middle-aged man who's tired of shouldering family responsibilities and is desperate to earn a quick buck. They together hatch a plot to honeytrap a young woman who claims to be the heiress of a large empire. Varun and Venky go overboard in their bid to impress her but destiny has other plans in store for them. To what extent will the duo go to clear their debts and get rich?

Anil Ravipudi has consistently taken pride in filling the void left behind by the likes of Jandhyala, EVV Satyanarayana and SV Krishna Reddy, filmmakers who specialised in comic capers. While one may not be sure if Anil is a worthy inheritor of their legacy, he certainly has a knack for absurdist humour. His films aren't meant to age well but are aimed to provide instant gratification - F3 serves that purpose. The second instalment in the 'Fun and Frustration' franchise, if not for anything, betters its prequel by a fair stretch.

F2: Fun and Frustration pitted irresponsible men against their partners who'd go to any length to take charge of their relationships. F3, more than the clash of genders, is about their common greed for money. The cast and the spirit of both films remain the same. F3 works well as a standalone film as much as it does as a sequel. The one-liners come one after the other at a frenetic pace, the situations get wackier, and subtlety feels like it belongs to another planet and yet these gags come together for a film that keeps you engaged.

F3, one must admit, is far from original - it's a rehash of tropes, characters derived from a handful of Jandhyala and EVV Satyanarayana films in the 80s and 90s, and is tailored smartly for a newer audience (the crux of the film seems to be heavily inspired by Chantabbai and Nenante Nene). To give credit where it's due, Anil Ravipudi succeeds in his pursuit. It's a film where a mother serves her son a flurry of dishes made out of a 'money plant' with the hope to get rich quickly and you don't mind having a good laugh.

The strength of F3 is its eccentricity, there's no space for sanity - while an over smart Varun stammers, an insecure Venky has night blindness and they embark on a mission in the middle of the night. Characters keep muttering long one-liners even if they're stabbed. There's a money lender Pala Baby who falls at the feet of women out of respect, there's a cop Nagaraju whose righteousness isn't valued at work and there are a handful of street-smart women who change their stance at the drop of a hat to get their work done. What if they unite for a common goal?

The storytelling pattern in F2 and F3 is similar on the whole (more intentional) - the characters fight among themselves in the first hour and later they hide their true identities when the backdrop shifts to a mansion in the second hour. Pradeep, playing a submissive husband, much like F2, still only has one line in response to anything that his wife asks him - 'Anthega'. Pragathi Suresh, her daughters and two elderly women don't mind turning badass con-women in the need of the hour and the male leads are at their mercy, more often than not.

Those with a fair bit of knowledge of Telugu cinema and its popular trends over the years will be able to enjoy F3 more. There's a hat-tip to every notable film of a major star in recent times, from Baahubali to Sarileru Neekevvaru to Gabbar Singh, Vakeel Saab and Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava. Venkatesh even wins over a bull with a reference to Suryavamsam's iconic song 'Rojaave...Chinni Rojaave' and is dressed as Narappa in the climax and says, 'They have watched him on OTT, they'll have greater fun watching me in action on the big screen now.'

Telugu cinema may have been notorious for misusing 'praasa' (rhythm) in one-liners in recent years, but Anil's one-liners keep such indulgences in check here. The fun element goes for a toss in the latter part of the film, where Anil falls short of ideas to string an engaging narrative and resorts to one gag after the other. The climax, which feels more like an afterthought, has its share of sparkles though it could've been written better.

The star of the show is undoubtedly Venkatesh, who is bursting with enthusiasm and enjoys the license that Anil gives him to go all guns blazing without any restraint. Varun Tej, though not an equal match to the veteran, nevertheless shows that he's worked on his comic timing. Tamannaah is rather underrated for her knack for humour and she pulls off a full-length role with assurance. Mehreen gets a scope to shine in her initial portions though there's little meat to the role beyond that.

Sunil and Ali are the pick of the lot among the ensemble cast - they've ample experience in making these wacky scenarios work to their advantage and it shows. Pragathi Suresh, Y Vijaya and Annapurnamma shine while they last. Murli Sharma, in his authoritative performance, gives a solid emotional foundation to the premise. Sampath, Rajendra Prasad and Vennela Kishore are just alright. Sonal Chauhan's presence doesn't add much value to the film. Devi Sri Prasad's music, but for Life Ante Minimum Itta Vundaala, is quite mediocre.

F3 delivers what you expect from it - an out-and-out fun ride with well-written one-liners and a bunch of wacky characters in implausible scenarios. Venkatesh, Sunil and a select lot from the ensemble cast give it everything to make this work. F3 is a much better film in comparison to its prequel F2 (not that it's of any golden standard). Given the average viewer's desperation for comedy entertainers, which have become a rarity in Telugu cinema lately, F3 is bound to work with its target audience.

F2 turned out to become an out-and-out entertainer back and then. Venkatesh and Varun Tej brought the house down with their performances and got the best support from the entire team. Making it a franchise filled with fun, the team came up with F3 calling it more fun, and the movie was released today in theaters. Anil Ravipudi along with the entire team of F3 is confident in entertaining the audience many more times with F3. Here is the review of the F3 movie and let us walk in it.

What Is It About?

Venky (Venkatesh) a broker at the RTO office struggles with middle-class troubles and wanted to become rich in a shortcut. Varun (Varun Tej) a small-time fraudster also tries to find ways to become rich just like Venky does. Harika (Tamanna) and Honey (Mehreen) family con Venky and Varun for big money and they all end up in the same situation where there needs a lot of money to overcome it. Unknowingly, they all get the same idea to become instant millionaires, by conning Anand Prasad (Murli Sharma) who is in search of his missing son. Were they able to bluff Anand Prasad? The story of F3 answers the question.

Performances

Venkatesh’s timing and expressions in comedy have a separate fan base. Venky steals the show throughout with his performance. He just turns the eyes towards him with the expressions even if there are ten other known actors in the same frame.

Varun Tej did an excellent job in F3 too. The young actor nails the scene each and every time he had to stammer and the new act he does each time is always fun. Varun and Venky’s pair is hilarious.

Tamanna and Mehreen did their part, but they did not look as glamorous as they did in F2 and their presence in the second half is weak. Their roles are just like the extensions from the first part and they get dominated on-screen by Venky and Varun Tej.

This will be a comeback role for Sunil and he is seen in his vintage look and dialogue modulation after a long time. Raghu Babu, Ali, Vennela Kishore, Rajendra Prasad, Pragathi, Murli Sharma, Satya, and Sampath Raj did fine in their respective roles.

Technicalities

F3 story is not any new line, except the comedy was written according to the current trend. With not much logic and calculations, F3 has an ordinary storyline with some captivating comedy scenes interlaced. Anil Ravipudi’s comedy writing skills needs a special mention.

The first half enthralls with hilarious scenes while the second half slows down to an old-school formula of identifying the son of a famous industrialist in four fraudsters.

The cinematography is okay and screenplay is good. The songs are not great and Pooja Hegde’s song is not as per expectations. The background music is alright.

Venkatesh and Varun Tej First Half Comedy

Thumbs Down

Old story Songs

From Missamma to Chantabbayi, there were many stories that worked well with the audience, where the plot is all about finding the missing son/daughter of a rich family. The director of F3 Anil Ravipudi somehow picked the same story that was very much outdated. Even the scenes that have the people claiming to be the son getting tested in various techniques are also very old. The only thing that works here is the contemporary comedy that the director makes the best use of.

The first half of the movie run at its hilarious best. Right from the funny scenes between Venky and his stepmom with the lines of ‘South Indian Thali’ and ‘Savathi Thalli’, to his night-blindness where he refers to ‘Venkat Rao Gadi Pellam, each scene was fun.

Varun Tej’s comedy is equally good, be it his stammering or the combination scenes with Venky. The comedy worked the best when Venky and Raghubabu see Haarika’s family in a ‘Dandupalyam’ poster and also the ‘fits’ scene with the background song ‘Taatayya Taatayya’. The dialogue where Venky says about ‘antibodies’ for Ali leaves the audience bouncing in the seats.

Entering the second half, the director shifts the gear from the direct comedy to the parody and references comedy amidst the old-time story. The comedy also slows down a bit, though some scenes with Venky and Varun conspiring against each other worked well.

Pan India junior artist Vennela Kishore’s frustration generates more fun than Tamanna’s unexpected transformation. At one point Vennela Kishore calls Tamanna ‘Tiger Shroff’ invoking instant laughs. Vennela Kishore making fun of Rajendra Prasad with ‘Natakireeti’ is also fun. The bullfighting scene emerged as an entertainer particularly when Venky emotionally melts the bull with his ‘sentiment’ formula and also when he does the Bheem-Tiger roar scene.

There are overflooding parody scenes when the gang gets into making the toys. Too many references to almost all Telugu superstars remind us of some EVV movies of the 90s. The Narappa look of Venkatesh is a sweet surprise to all and his supporting dialogue about the OTT release in Narappa-slang is also fun. The director used as many references as he could and finally called it an end with a climax from the 90s time. The toy-making logic and the twist with a message, in the end, are monotonous and much anticipated.

Overall, F3 enthralls the audience with a very good first half and an average second half with mixed comedy. Watching a series of serious and action films from the last few weeks, a set of the audience may definitely want to watch F3 while some may not be impressed much due to the cringe comedy. With F3 already carrying a good impression from F2, its theatrical run might be more fun, particularly with the family audience.

Bottom line: Full Fun For Family Audience

Rating: 3/5

f3 movie review rating telugu

f3 movie review rating telugu

f3 movie review rating telugu

What's Behind

Venkatesh and Varun Tej are coming together to entertain movie lovers with F3. The film directed by Anil Ravipudi is attracting the attention of all, as it is the continuation of the hit film F2. Let us see what impact F3 made on movie lovers.

Story Review

Venky(Venkatesh) dabbles in various businesses to get rich but and in the process gets attracted to Harika (Tamannaah). Similarly, Varun Yadav (Varun Tej) dreams of becoming a billionaire and falls for Honey (Mehreen). All of them aspire to become rich earning easy money and meet police officer Nagaraju (Rajendra Prasad), who decides to shed his honesty vexed by the ways of his commissioner (Sampath Raj). In the meantime, they see a video on youtube where JK Industries owner Anand Raju (Murali Sharma), talks about his missing son. To find out whether Venky, Varun, Honey, Harika, and Nagaraju realize their dream of becoming rich, enjoy F3 on the screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

Anil Ravipudi started F3 inspired by the success of F2. He included the entire cast of F2 and roped in a few new players to thrill viewers. The film is not a sequel for F2 but has few similarities. Anil Ravipudi as is his wont concentrated on creating more fun rather than come with a strong story. Thus F3 offered more fun, hilarious, and comedy scenes and they turned out to be wafer-thin and extremely weak. He with the weaknesses of the lead characters, like night-blindness and stammer, managed to generate fun by attributing unique mannerisms. Apart from it, he roped in hot actresses to cater to the needs of the commercial requirements. The entire first half highlighted the introduction and establishment of new characters, and only during the interval, the story pick up the pace.

Right through the second half, Anil Ravipudi after establishing the characters concentrated on generating fun around them. Though all the scenes are illogical and out of sync, he managed to create laughter through various characters irrespective of the monotony that crept in. Finally, the story ends on a silly note with routine outdated and silly pre-climax and climax scenes. Despite all the flaws, Anil Ravipudi elevated the comedy angle in Venkatesh and Varun Tej, and the way he used spoofs from various films and, on multiple stars thoroughly entertained and thrilled movie lovers.

Venkatesh, known for his versatile performances, carried the film on his shoulders. He cast a magic spell mesmerizing all with his mannerisms, body language, and expressions. Venkatesh turned out to be the livewire for the film and powered F3 to another height. Venkatesh who created a niche for himself with Venky Asan in F2 took off from there and he delighted all with his trademark expressions and dialogues.

Varun Tej who is selecting different genre roles made an impression by doing out and out comedy roles in F3. He worked hard on his unique mannerisms and performed well working on his dialogue delivery. He matched Venkatesh complimenting him and the duo rocked on the screen creating a laughing riot.

Tamanaah and Mehreen appeared as the female leads. They oozed with glamor and sizzled redhot in songs. However compared to F2, they paled in their looks. Sonal Chauhan sizzled in a special role and Pooja Hegde attracted with her moves in the special song providing a glamor treat. Murali Sharma, and Sampath Raj performed well while Rajendra Prasad once again impressed with his unique performance. Sunil, Ali and Vennela Kishore attracted with their comedy. Raghu Babu did their bit to entertain movie lovers. Others like Tulasi,Satya,Jhansi,Pragati,Y.Vijaya, Annapurna, Srikanth Iyengar performed accordingly.

Devi Sri Prasad came up with foot tapping music and all the songs are loaded with mass elements and well shot. His BGM is good but could have been better. The cinematography of Sai Sriram is colorful. The editing of Tammiraju could have been better as there are a few scenes that dragged the film. Production values are good.

Rating Analysis

Anil Ravipudi after the success of F2 where he highlighted the psychology of women and marriage, this time decided to increase the fun quotient. He worked on the loopholes of F2 where the second half took a beating due to routine scenes after the entertaining first half. So for F3, he decided to balance both halves and as such loaded the entire film with comedy scenes irrespective of whether they are routine or not. He believed that movie lovers look only for entertainment and will not look at the logic behind it. So the story turned out to be weak and so there is nothing much to talk about the screenplay and direction. Anil Ravipudi through F3 offered over the top, out and out humor with Venkatesh and Varun Tej, no holds barred glamor treat from Tamannaah, Mehreen, Sonal Chauhan, and Pooja Hegde turning it out to be a complete hilarious commercial entertainer. Considering all these points, CJ goes with a 3 rating for F3.

'F3' movie review: Venkatesh, Varun shine in half-hearted comedy

Follow Us :

F3 Telugu (Theatres) Director: Anil Ravipudi Cast: Venkatesh, Varun Tej, Tamannaah, Mehreen Pirzada, Sunil, Rajendra Prasad, Murali Sharma, Raghu Babu Rating: 2.5/5

Anil Ravipudi’s sense of humor is staunchly stuck in the 90s. If it’s used as a throwback to the pre-smartphone, pre-social media era, it works wonders. But he seems to weigh the ingredients of comedy differently. The usual suspect – a large cast of characters – is an ever-present fixture, though. Probably, the only big name that’s missing from his latest caper is Brahmanandam – if the film had been coloured with his exuberant idiocy, it would have climbed a few more stairs. Vennela Kishore, however, does his best to drag the creaky and leaky parts forward.

F3, like its older sibling F2 (2019), has Venkatesh in great form. He’s silly and he knows it. He embraces his goofiness as if that’s his only source of nutrition. The other actors, mainly Varun Tej, Raghu Babu, and Sunil, rely upon their dialogues to translate the cycle of emotions they go through. Among the supporting cast, Pragathi, as the cunning mother of two women, is a hoot. But she doesn’t get to take steps of her own to achieve her goals as her character is employed to pivot around the plans made by others.

Ravipudi is aware of the fact that comedies work better when there are pairs. Venky (Venkatesh) and Varun (Tej), therefore, have sidekicks. These sidekicks are more like friends who follow their partners-in-crime wherever they go. What brings all these characters together, without a doubt, nevertheless, is quite naturally money. The two leading men aspire to earn truckloads of moolah in as little time as possible. Ravipudi must have heard somewhere that smart work trumps hard work.

But when the smart work for which Varun and Venky get involved in reaches a dead end, they go their separate ways to ideate with their respective sidekicks. These plot points get repetitive after a while, but the laughs keep coming, sometimes in waves, and sometimes in drops. The jokes are evenly distributed amongst many familiar faces, but Ravipudi stretches a lot of scenes beyond necessary. And the climactic stretch, which is primarily written and executed as a skit, doesn’t fit into the narrative.

There’s a lengthy sequence where four characters are tasked with the job of taming a bull. They can’t turn their backs and run away because they’re all trying to prove that they’re the heir of a wealthy businessman (played by Murali Sharma). It’s not a do-or-die situation. It’s more like a matter of saving face at the end of the day. So, they get ready to get attacked by a bull. The lines that precede this particularly painful event tell us that there’s going to be a feast, but all you’ll be served is a fistful of peanuts. Despite having Tamannaah in a moustache, who’s also pretending to be the businessman’s son, it won’t tickle your funny bone. Okay, I’ll put it this way – it didn’t tickle my funny bone.

What I certainly liked, though, is its brashness. It strips apart the punch lines from F2 and reconstructs them for F3. “Honey is the best” becomes “Honey is rich”. Honey (Mehreen Pirzada) isn’t really rich and she, too, struggles to make ends meet. But who can stop her from saying that? Moreover, the movie, unabashedly, adopts the template of cringe comedy by throwing all the actors in the cauldron – only Sharma stays away from making a fool of himself. He even shouts at his assistants when he smells chaos. Does that mean billionaires, or people who step into the shoes of billionaires on screen, have lost the ability to have fun?

Ravi Babu’s Allari (2002) and Curb Your Enthusiasm, created by Larry David, which belong to the same genre, have showed us that there can be plenty of pleasures in uttering awkward and shameless statements. But shamelessness needs to be the USP of the product rather than the by-product. F3 gets that partly right. And, maybe, with time, Ravipudi will make the juice worth the squeeze.

F3 Review – Over the Top but Faisa Vasool

F3 Telugu Movie Review

Over the Top but Faisa Vasool

OUR RATING 2.75/5

Venkatesh_F3_Telugu_Movie_Review

Venky (Venkatesh) and Varun Yadav (Varun Tej) are ordinary guys with ordinary lives. Their struggle is all about money. One day they hear about a wealthy industrialist in Vijayanagaram who is looking for his heir. What happens when Venky, Varun and the gang arrive at his doorsteps pretending to be his heir is the movie’s basic plot.

VarunTej_F3_Telugu_Movie_Review

Venkatesh is the lifeline of F3, much like he was with F2. He literally eats anyone on-screen with him. Anil Ravipudi also knows the same, and he puts excellent use of the comedy timing of the star. The narrative is built involving many actors, but it is Venkatesh who stands out with the impeccable timing.

Coming to Varun Tej, he seems to be well aware of the monster at the other end and never tries to overdo anything. He sticks to his characters, and that works well in standing alone. His character comes with a particular trait which requires a specific body language. Varun does well with it, but its ultimate success is more about the writing and scenes than his ‘act’ itself.

Director Anil Ravipudi

The hit-machine Anil Ravipudi is back with the new entertainer F3. It is a spiritual sequel to the much-loved F2. The actors are the same as the original, but it is a new story and not a continuation of the previous part.

The stories have never been a strong pursuit of Anil Ravipudi, barring his debut (Pataas). It is always the screenplay and entertainment which hold the narrative together. He terms them as ‘Items’, and it’s the case with F3. The range to which one likes (or dislikes) his films depends on how these ‘items’ work out.

There is always a theme running in Anil Ravipudi movies despite wafter thin stories. It is the string or the foundation on which the blocks are set. If it was the marriage in F2, it is money in F3. The relatability factor remains the same. But, there is a visible difference between the two when it comes to the narrative.

In F2, there was a clear cut difference between the two halves. The first one was unanimously appreciated, whereas the second half didn’t click at the same level. In F3, that is not the case, as there are blocks throughout that work, and at the same time, some fall flat.

Venkatesh’s night blindness (rechikati) track is a hoot. The first few times connect instantly and are a laugh ride. However, the same is not true with the ‘Stuttering’ track of Varun Tej. The comedy varies from good to passable to ho-hum. The Rajendra Prasad sub-plot is another example of a mixed bag. The bottom line here is the unevenness.

Some blocks provide fun throughout, but at the same time, they are followed by passable content. The first half is more even in this regard, with the actual story kicking in at the interval point. It is used to further the comedy.

The second half continues the same momentum but gets progressively bloated and sillier. The pre-climax and climax blocks go way overboard and are silly even to those who have already given in to the silliness. What works, again, are some genuinely funny moments in between and the end on a positive note.

Overall, F3 is a over the top entertainer that delivers what it promises – mindless entertainment. Setting the right expectations is the key here, along with the tolerance levels for mindlessness. Give it a try if you don’t mind the logiclessness.

Tamannah_F3_Telugu_Movie_Review

After the main male leads, Tamannaah gets a decent role. She gets a part to show her skills glamorously and provide some fun. Mehreen is as irritating as she was in F2. Luckily, her part gets sidelined in the second half.

F3 is filled with many known character artists. Some were seen in F2, whereas a few new additions like Sunil. The latter is a welcome addition as he gets a hilarious role. Rajendra Prasad plays an honest police officer with a nativity to perfection in his inimitable style. Murali Sharma is adequate as the industrialist, and the women’s gang shine as they did previously. Vennela Kishore has a better role here, and he impresses. Raghu Babu and others are alright and hold their own whenever they get the chance.

Music Director Devi Sri Prasad

At best, Devi Sri Prasad’s music is passable, but they have been placed and shot well in the narrative. The background score is par for the course. Sai Sri Ram’s cinematography is loud yet colourful. Tammiraju’s editing is neat and deserves credit for keeping the narrative tight with many characters. It could have been easily all over the place. The writing is good, mostly.

Final Report:

F3 is an over the top entertainer that goes way overboard. Still, the comedy works, and there is enough entertainment to be engaged, making it a decent one-time watch. It’s all about setting the ‘expectations’ right.

— The Item Song “Life Ante Itta Vundaala” featuring Pooja Hegde is placed perfectly after a lengthy block and shot with simple but cute moments along with F3 stars.

— F3 second half started. All key cast now has one common goal and shifted to Murali Sharma’s house.

First Half Report:

F3 is an over the top entertainer similar to F2 with a flimsy storyline. A few comedy blocks work very well whereas others are ordinary depending on the expectations.

Venkatesh, as usual, steals the show with his timing eats alive everyone in the frame with him.

— F3 begins in Vizianagaram. Venky lends money to Tamanna’s family. He is in desperate need for money. On the other hand, Varun Yadav (Varun Tej) too wants to earn big money.

— F3 started. Streaming partner- SonyLIV.

F3 Review, U.S. Premier updates will begin shortly. Stay tuned.

The sequel to the Mega successful family entertainer F2 starring Victory Venkatesh and Mega Prince Varun Tej, F3 , is finally here. It has been a long wait, but Anil Ravipudi and producer Dil Raju have ensured it’s worth the wait.

Once upon a time, there was a sentiment in the industry that sequels don’t work. We have a few which actually didn’t. Well, that’s a thing of the past, and post-Baahubali movies and the phenomenal success of KGF and its sequel, KGF 2, there is a renewed interest in ‘sequels’ in Telugu cinema.

F3 couldn’t have therefore come at the right time. Not only are sequels in vogue, but also the audience is missing a fun family entertainer. The original worked for the same reason, and the sequel also has a similar situation.

The audience is starved for entertainment, and F3 comes at the right time. Venkatesh, Varun Tej, and the team delivered the laughs in the first instalment and emerged as the winner of the Sankranthi season. They can do the same for the summer season (considering ROI).

Anil Ravipudi is on a high with back to back success. A great outing with F3 could further cement his place as a top director in the industry. Venkatesh is coming after back to back OTT releases, and Varun Tej, after the epic disaster, Ghani couldn’t ask for a better outing. A box office hit will put them back on the map. Producer Dil Raju will be on a roll here as he has a lot coming up.

As always, M9News will bring you a ‘First-On-Net’ F3 movie review, genuinely and honestly. Watch this space for our updates.

F3 movie review: Venkatesh-Varun Tej starrer all about 'fun, frustration'

F3 movie review: Venkatesh-Varun Tej starrer all about 'fun, frustration'

Telugu film F3 , contrary to its previous installment F2 , is not about how different men and women are. This time around, men and women are allies. But the film does maintain its USP: the second installment is also based on the frustration of its central characters played by Venkatesh Daggubati , Varun Tej, Tamannaah Bhatia , and Mehreen Pirzada. Here's our detailed review.

What is 'F3' all about?

F3 is about a group of people desperately trying to become millionaires. For a film with such a tricky concept, the intention matters. The central characters are capable of doing anything for money. But none of their actions feel offensive. And, director Anil Ravipudi has mindfully crafted the film by not turning it into a battle between the rich and poor.

Film showers you with witty dialogs, funny comebacks

The film finds humor in simple incidents. Be it Venky's (Daggubati) mindless acts and his blind faith in "staying positive to get rich" or Varun (Tej) engaging in a quarrel with God for not making him rich, everything induces laughter. And gags just keep coming to you scene after scene. So much so that you would even start gasping for air at some point.

Strongest positive of the film is the casting

It is a treat to watch Daggubati, Tej, and Bhatia standing shoulder to shoulder with their comical wits. Especially, Daggubati scores brownie points all the way for sportingly spoofing his classic movies. There is a particular scene where Venky ends up "convincing a bull" not to attack him by singing Rojave from his hit film Suryavamsam (1998). It will quite literally crack you up!

What has not worked in favor of 'F3'?

While Tej has complemented Daggubati overall, he goes over the top at times when it comes to the peculiar body language he follows whenever he stutters. Also, Pirzada's role is rather brief. And the way she repeatedly calls herself "rich Honey" kills the film's vibe.

Movie hints that 'F4' is coming!

Not nit-picking about the logical loopholes here, but you cannot find even one logical reasoning in the whole film. Some portions like the slapstick comedy of Vennela Kishore seem draggy. But the climactic sequence brings down the roof and makes up for the flaws. And yes, the film ends with a note saying F4 is on the cards! We are going with 3.5 stars.

F3: Fun and Frustration Is More Problematic Than Funny

Cast: Venkatesh Daggubati, Varun Tej, Tamannaah Bhatia, Mehreen Pirzada Stars

Director: Anil Ravipudi

How do we talk about F3: Fun and Frustration ? I could give you a rant about every problematic element in the film? Or do I just let it be and tell you about the bits I enjoyed? Because if I did the former then I'd have to rank and decide which ones to leave out and which ones to include in a review and choosing and ranking problematic issues from such a big list sounds wrong too.

Do I tell you that the jokes on epilepsy, night blindness, stammering, and other disabilities are terrible, or do I tell you that the idea that one of the protagonists' parents pimps her to save money is supposed to be funny? Oh, what about the constant usage of some professions as insults or the severely unlikeable protagonists whose only redeeming qualities are that sometimes they complain about money as most middle-class people do? But then again this is a director who in his previous films made fun of rape and child marriage, so am I happy that this feels like an upgrade?

This feels pointless and seems like an infinite task.

I'd rather tell you what I enjoyed and laughed at. And I'm not being ironic with what I say. I genuinely believe that Anil Ravipudi , this film's director and one of its many writers, has a good eye for sketch comedy. His best gags are not reserved for the protagonists but the absolutely irrelevant side characters. Think about the constable played by Srinivas Reddy in Pataas who is a satire on the devotion shown by side characters to protagonists, a character trope that Srinivas Reddy usually plays. Think about the family member in Supreme whose only dialogue and demand is "Coffee" at the worst moments ranging from a hospital, to when people are contemplating suicide, etc.

He also seems to have a good knack for how to make a scene funny with sudden entries and exits with his tertiary characters. Think about the bodyguard in F2: Fun and Frustration who every time he enters the frame complains about a new disease he's got and then exits even more randomly than he appeared.

But if Anil Ravipudi channeled this vision and writing for his main characters, I think we'd have a fresh comedic voice that we haven't seen in Telugu cinema since Jandhyala . But instead, what we have is a film filled with problematic elements and some cringe humor for its protagonists, and small hidden gems that are hilarious for the secondary characters.

F3: Fun and Frustration tells the story of Venky (Venkatesh), Varun (Varun Tej), Harika ( Tamannaah Bhatia ), and Honey (Mehreen Pirzada), all of whom find themselves struggling to escape their lower-middle-class roots. They scam others, each other, and themselves but nothing seems to be working until one day they chance upon an offer from a millionaire Anand Prasad (Murali Sharma). Do they take it? Are they worthy of it? What the hell is F3 ? Is it a brand?

This film too suffers from severely unfunny protagonists and it takes a special kind of Telugu film to make Venkatesh unfunny. The primary reason for this is that in F2: Fun and Frustration, Venky and Varun had the audience's sympathy and we laughed at their plight. Even when they did questionable things the audience forgave them. But here, they have no such rooting and therefore come out increasingly unlikeable. It's hard to laugh at characters who are wrong and do more wrong things without having our sympathy completely with them. I know it's a sequel but if the filmmaking team expects the audience to forget the original, then the audience will suspend their sympathy for the protagonists which has to be re-earned too. But Anil Ravipudi and the writing team fail to do that.

Where they do succeed though is with the side characters and the supporting actors who play them. Vennela Kishore as a co-scammer is so good that he manages to make " Doodh Mangoge ko kheer denge, Kashmir maangoge tho cheer dhenge " funny. I can't explain why it is so but it's just hilarious given the situation he's in where he plays a self-aware junior artist tired of the film he's in.

Similarly, Mirchi Kiran, who I rate highly and is terribly underutilized by Telugu cinema, has just two moments and his entries and dialogue delivery are hilarious. Sunil finds some of that old charm back and it's to Anil Ravipudi's credit that we have finally found a director who can bring that Sunil back. There's an excellent gag with children who are too addicted to phones.

Even Pradeep KV's henpecked father gets a hilarious payoff that is funny in the context of this film and as a meta-dig at all the punch dialogues thrown by young heroes. But the film's best lines go to Raghu Babu (Anji Reddy) who is the moral conscience of the scammers that nobody listens to. It's a role he's done countless times but as the man tired of making devious plans but does them anyway only to always regret them is the right note of hilarious.

And that's about it. I think. I might have missed out on a few more moments I laughed but this list covers most of them. The rest of it is some version of cringe, unfunny, and problematic. They tease an F4 which is going to be bigger apparently – sounds like a threat honestly. But at least I know what I'm looking forward to in that one.

F3 Movie Review

F3 fun and frustration review.

Telugu360 Rating 3/5

Anand Prasad (Murali Sharma), an influential businessman is in search of his lost heir. Venky, the sole breadwinner of a family in cinematic crisis, provides shortcut services. Varun is an expert day dreamer. They attempt to get rich via the trap the rich girl scheme, only the rich girl happens to be Tamannah’s sister Mehreen, who have the same plan. One thing leads to another, and the group finds themselves in a tough spot in need of money to get out from. What happens when these frustrated folks cross paths with Anand Prasad makes up the rest of the movie.

As with F2, do not expect any logics in F3. Check In your thinking hats outside the theater and only expect to be treated to Director Anil Ravipudi’s trademark slapstick comedy. Where F2 dealt with fun and frustration in relationships, F3 shows us the fun(?) and frustrating sides of not having the money that you want.

Using core cast from F2, Anil Ravipudi created a relatively engaging canvas with some laughs and no concrete story. The episodes where the characters end up in fits was good – use of old timer songs in the background is a nice touch.

First half of the movie deals with establishing the characters and we get to see pretty much the entire cast of F2 reappraising their roles in same fashion. Venkatesh leads the way with screentime through the entire movie. His comedy timing and antics with dealing with his night blindness are very funny.

The track with Venkata Rao’s wife is a signature Anil Ravipudi’ creatives and expertly delivered by Venkatesh. Varun Tej does a good job with good Telangana accent dialogues and his stammer covering mannerism are top notch. After a long time, we see Sunil playing to his strength as the fun sidekick. Rajendra Prasad and Sampath Raj play corrupt cops and provide the subplot that further ties the characters together. Ali’s episodes generated some laughs.

Second half of the movie deals with another scam to get their hands on Anand Prasad (Murali Sharma’s) money. With more laughs – some fun and some forced the movie makes its way to the climax episode. The expert use of movie parodies a treat to watch – albeit a bit too packed. May be could have cut down on a few of the parodies. Venky and Varun Tej excel with unique mannerisms. Sunil and Raghu babu do decent job as sidekick.

Songs are not upto the mark. Editing could have been a bit crisper.

F3 movie review: Neither logic nor story encompass in this Venkatesh, Varun Tej comedy

Some films ask the viewer to leave their brains at home, but F3 makes sure that you leave the theatre empty-headed.

F3 movie review: Neither logic nor story encompass in this Venkatesh, Varun Tej comedy

Language: Telugu

Anand Prasad (Murali Sharma) is a rich man who’s only been rich for a short while. He lives in a palace-like house somewhere in Vizianagaram, and he commands great respect from everyone around him—from commoners to politicians. He is also self-aware and knows that his money is what earns him power and respect. The film is self-aware too. So much so that it stops being a movie somewhere around the half-hour mark and turns into a sequence of skits—something that happens quite often with this filmmaker. It is so conscious of the audience that it tries everything to entertain them, which, in turn, makes it less involving and less fun. One more question: how many inside jokes are too many?

F3: Fun and Frustration is filled with amoral characters hungry for money. One of the protagonists, Venky (Venkatesh), provides a service that specialises in shortcuts: from registering marriages to vehicles. Varun (Varun Tej) is a scammer of a different shade who pretends to be other people to make a quick buck. Harika (Tamannaah Bhatia) and Honey (Mehreen Pirzada) are pretenders too, but since they are women, they get to use their womanly ways and “magical balm” to get what they want. Don’t get the film wrong, though, because it insists that it respects women very much. So much so that it refuses to look at them as people—lest we accuse the movie of gawking.

F3 ’s overarching message is this: respect money, which is fitting because that’s all the filmmaker seems to respect as well. I didn’t see any reverence for the medium as the filmmaker treats the movie like a daily soap with a loud BGM score—DSP making the least possible effort—and repetitive shots that reveal nothing important. I am fine with the story and set up following the age-old template, but the comedy must be fresh. Something has to be new to warrant a 2 hour, 20-minute movie.

Towards the already laboured climax, Venkatesh comes out dressed as Narappa, from Narappa (2021), and hits a few goons. Why? Because the film hasn’t been released in theatres, and fans deserve a glimpse. As if that is all the film stands for. If that isn’t enough, there is constant mention of Venkatesh’s legacy and who he is; the same applies to Varun Tej. Again, the same question: didn’t you do that already with your previous film?

See, the film isn’t completely barren. Most of the actors are veterans, so they don’t need a good script to work. Venkatesh’s comic timing is just as sharp, even if the film never deserves it. Varun Tej is impressive as he tries to match. While Mehreen is merely functional, Tamannaah manages to leave a mark as she gets a role just as lengthy as her male counterparts, even if it’s equally ludicrous. The film cleverly populates itself with comedic artists like Rajendra Prasad, Vennela Kishore, Satya, Sunil, Raghu Babu, and Pragathi. So even if the writing doesn’t do much to generate laughter, they can. And they do.

To be fair to the filmmaker, though, he never pretends to make anything different. Logic isn’t the priority, and neither is the story.

Why Vizianagaram, you might ask? Just so the interval card can read ‘Vijayanagaramo, Veeraswargamo.’ If a song asks for the actors to be sexy, they will be sexy. It doesn’t matter if the situation doesn’t allow it because he will ignore it altogether. There is something to be said about this commitment to make something silly and stupid. If only it were funny. If only it didn’t make me wonder about the number of brain cells I am losing with every passing minute.

Films like this afford the viewer an opportunity to consider their boundaries. How offensive is too offensive? How far can you go along with a joke before it becomes humourless? And the amount of self-loathing you indulge in after having laughed at a bad joke can tell you a lot about yourself. In that sense, Anil Ravipudi’s F3: Fun and Frustration is art, too, as it allows introspection, even if the burden of the word is solely on the viewer. However, as it stands, the film is a laughable attempt at comedy and entertainment. Some films ask the viewer to leave their brains at home, but this film makes sure that you leave the theatre empty-headed.

‘Brinda’ web series review: Trisha, Ravindra Vijay sparkle in this taut crime drama

In debut director surya manoj vangala’s telugu web series ‘brinda’, trisha and ravindra vijay come up with triumphs as the narrative navigates professional and personal stories of resilience.

Sangeetha Devi Dundoo

Trisha in the Telugu web series ‘Brinda’, streaming on Sony LIV

First-time director Surya Manoj Vangala’s Telugu web series Brinda , which marks actor Trisha Krishnan’s entry into the digital space, features the actor without most of the trappings of mainstream commercial cinema. Cast in the titular role, she portrays a brooding insomniac cop popping anxiety pills, grappling with ghosts from her past, facing gender discrimination at the workplace with quiet resilience and working with an unflinching sense of purpose. In the eight-episode series streaming on Sony LIV, approximately 40 minutes duration each, she smiles fleetingly on a couple of occasions. The narrative gives her and her co-star Ravindra Vijay , a colleague at the police station, ample scope to portray troubled characters, even as the crime they are investigating gets darker at every turn. Brinda tries to go beyond the whodunnit hook points. It blends the personal and professional journeys of its principal characters, while also trying to discuss a tricky socio-cultural issue.

Brinda (Telugu)

The prologue in the opening episode establishes the premise. In a distant village in the forest, in the mid-1990s, a young girl is chosen to be offered as a human sacrifice to appease the supposedly angry Goddess. The wails of the girl’s brother and mother fall on deaf ears; no one in the village questions the superstitious, ritualistic practice. The series is peppered with practices that continue to occur in contemporary society, across religions, in the name of God.

Surya Vangala uses cinematic liberty to explore what is likely to happen to individuals who bear the brunt of such practices. Someone raised in a sheltered, doting family environment, may, with some struggle, stay on the right side of the moral compass. Left on the fringes and ignored by society, some others might channel their energy into the darker zones. The retaliation to practices in the name of faith forms the backdrop of Brinda.

The protagonist struggles to overcome memories of the past and is constantly searching for answers. Brinda (Trisha), a newly appointed sub-inspector, is mostly relegated to a desk job. She keeps to herself, unmindful of the casual disdain with which her colleagues approach work. We see her sometimes fixing an electricity issue and often having to close the washroom door that her colleagues leave ajar. Small, everyday happenings are used to establish her persona. When an auto driver hesitates to take money after dropping her off at the police station, she insists on paying him.

The power and gender politics at work play out in different ways, with only Sarathi (Ravindra Vijay), a fellow cop, treating her with some respect. Sarathi and Brinda forge an unlikely partnership, with some friction, as they begin to investigate what seems to be at first, a case of suicide. The details get grotesque as they unfold and viewer discretion would be advised in the case of young children.

The stories of Brinda and Sarathi are effectively woven in when we get a glimpse of their families. Aamani plays Brinda’s doting foster mother, struggling to balance the animosity between Brinda and her younger daughter. The sibling friction has a predictable arc and could have been worked upon better in a story that otherwise tries to avoid predictable tropes. For instance, the prologues of the first few episodes make it seem easy to connect the dots and guess who will be pitted against whom. But events and characters revealed later add a layer of complexity to the web of crime.

At one point, when Brinda tells her mother that she is thankful that she has been nurtured in a caring home and wonders what the mindset of someone who has not received that warmth is, she points to characters on the other side of the coin.

Brinda tries to address the good versus evil debate through the characters played by Jaya Prakash, Rakendu Mouli and Sandeep Sahu, painting a grim picture that education alone may not be enough for people to rise above superstitious practices. It also shows how another educated character is blinded by hatred towards such practices. To a certain extent, the narrative manages to underline the need for a sensible approach and let goodness prevail over all kinds of evil.

The personal stories of some characters humanise the crime drama. Sarathi’s story is that of someone desperately waiting for better tidings on the personal and professional fronts. Ravindra Vijay puts forth a fine performance as a police officer who aspires for a higher position but does not shed his innate sense of fairness towards a colleague. A scene that shows him breaking down on learning a crucial turning point in his personal life is a sensitive, realistic portrayal in terms of writing and performance. An easy, cinematic portrayal could have shown him and his wife Lekha (Anjana) exulting. But the reality is likely to be different. His tears are a sign of gratitude, relief and hope for better things to come. Anjana as the wife, in her brief screen time, is striking.

Brinda banks on its writing and the ability of its lead actor, Trisha (with voice by Harita), to breathe life into the non-glamorous part and carry it with all her resolve. Trisha’s is a measured portrayal of a resilient woman trying to rise above her circumstances. Trisha makes it count and never strikes a false note.

Giving Brinda its grittiness is also an able technical team that includes cinematographer Dinesh Babu, music composer Shakti Kanth Karthick and production designer Avinash Kolla, who are in sync with the proceedings. Anand Sami as Thakur is pitch-perfect, as is Indrajith Sukumaran as the suave Kabir Anand who adds intrigue to the drama. To discuss their characters would amount to revealing spoilers.

Despite a few predictable stretches, Brinda is an impressive addition to the Telugu web series space.

Brinda is currently streaming on Sony LIV
