must grammatically correct and should convey to. the reader the nature <strong>of</strong> the<br />
work to be carried out. The title should be in capital words (Times New Roman<br />

The title must be provided on the first line below the page header.<br />
All materials must be typed (l2-point font, Times New Roman) and doublespaced<br />
on A-4 paper. The text should be provided under headings, namely,<br />
Introduction, Aims and Objectives, Plan <strong>of</strong> Work, Methodolgy,<br />
Acknowledgement and References. Headings and subheadings for different<br />
sections should be clearly indicated. Abbreviations should be used consistently<br />
throughout the text, and nuustsbe clearly defined in full on first use. Synopsis<br />
should be bet ween 5 to 10. pages properly paginated (in the upper right -hand<br />
Gomer <strong>of</strong> each page).<br />
Introduction (Times New Roman 12 bold)<br />
Each synopsis should have a brief Introduction. The Introduction, should provide<br />
a critical analysis <strong>of</strong> the available and appropriate literature to identify an<br />
objective whose accomplishment will provide a 'significant contribution to the<br />
field, i.e. the work may either provide something new to the field or will improve<br />
upon the existing knowledge or develop a new methodology or device having<br />
major advantages over those already known.

Aims ami Objectives (Times New Roman 12 bold)<br />
Aims and objectives. significance, review <strong>of</strong> previous research in the area<br />
showing the need for conducting the proposed research, proposed methods,<br />
expected outcomes and their importance must be provided.<br />
Plan <strong>of</strong> WOI"k (Times New Roman 12 bold)<br />
Plan <strong>of</strong> work should outline the phase-wise distribution <strong>of</strong> the conduct <strong>of</strong><br />
proposed research so that the desired outcome is accomplished within the periods<br />
prescribed for the degree pursued in accordance with the <strong>University</strong>'s M.Phil and<br />
Ph. [) rules.<br />
Methodology (Times New Roman 12 bold)<br />
The proposed research methodology should be described including collection <strong>of</strong><br />
samples, processing <strong>of</strong> samples, analytical protocol, and analysis <strong>of</strong> samples using<br />
state <strong>of</strong> the art instrument to be used (if any).<br />
Acknowledgment (Times New Roman 12 bold)<br />
In case if the work is a collaborated work. than Acknowledgement <strong>of</strong> the people<br />
and organizations should be made Acknowledgements should be kept as short as<br />
possible, and placed at the end <strong>of</strong> the text (before References).<br />
References (Times New Roman 12 bold)<br />
References in the text should be cited in one <strong>of</strong> the' following ways:<br />
• by number e.g results indicated (3, 7, 8),<br />
• by superscript number e.g results indicated 3 .7.8.<br />
• by author name and date. e.g (Andres et ai., 1997).<br />

I. Collect references in a list under the heading "References "at the end <strong>of</strong><br />
the text. They should not be treated as footnotes.<br />
i. References must be numbered with Arabic numerals in the order <strong>of</strong> their<br />

appropriate elocations in the text as superscripted numerals without<br />
parentheses or brackets or Indicate references in text by a number in<br />

Purpose: This study investigated the information-seeking behavior (ISB) of the research students in terms of information needs, sources, resources, barriers to information seeking, significance of the libraries towards the quality of research and factors motivating the use of libraries at the University of Peshawar.
Design/Methodology/approach: This study used a quantitative approach, adopting a survey questionnaire method for data collection. The population of this study was composed of the Master, M.Phil. and PhD research students in the faculties of Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and Management Information Sciences at the University of Peshawar. The sample size was 300 research students selected conveniently. The study response rate was 85% and data were analyzed through SPSS (20 version).
Key findings: The findings revealed that research students sought information to satisfy their information needs related to the identification and selection of the research problem, access to the current information, writing of the research proposal, article and theses. To fulfill their information needs, these researches indicated the use of different sources and resources. Regarding the sources, most of the research students preferred the research-related workshops and taking help from other researchers to fulfill their information needs. Furthermore, research students used the internet and online research databases to satisfy information needs. They also utilized research and information services provided by their libraries to retrieve the needed information. While seeking the needed information, research students have reported different barriers designating poor internet connectivity, ICT facilities and unavailability of study rooms in libraries as the major barriers. Reliable information sources and e-databases were the significant motivating factors for using/visiting library.
Limitations of the study : This study has two major limitations; 1) as the sample was conveniently recruited, thus there is a possibility of sample bias and; 2) likewise this study was undertaken at the University of Peshawar, thus generalization of findings is limited to the study context.
Practical implication(s): the findings might motivate librarians towards the restructuring of information literacy programs to enhance the current ISB of the research students. It may inform the authorities about the barriers faced by the research students in information seeking and thus stimulate them towards the up-gradation of Internet and ICT facilities in the university.
Contribution to the knowledge: This study addressed the gap in the literature on ISB in the context University of Peshawar. It revealed factors that impede and/or augment researchers’ use of libraries. The insights may include the formulation of a stable information literacy program at the University of Peshawar to support research-based learning.

This study was conducted to determine the level of brand loyalty and image, to examine interactive role of those factors that determines brand image and loyalty, to determine level of brand loyalty and image of Toyota car users and to suggest measures for developing brand loyalty in district Peshawar. The data was collected through questionnaire from a sample of 100 Toyota car users that were selected through convenience sampling method. The results were analyzed on the basis of Chi-Square (x2) test to determine the differences among the group factors. The study on the basis of the results of the test statistics showed that Brand Image and Loyalty was highly insignificant with age group, level of education, point of purchase and repeat purchase duration. While it was observed by the results of the test statistics that brand image and loyalty was highly significant with brand choice of Toyota, level of satisfaction of the use of product, different feature of the product, coloring scheme of Toyota brand, the repeat purchase frequency of the product in contact and different societal factors associated with the product. The study recommended that the Toyota if want to remain on the top is required to adopt a lean and green marketing strategy against its main competitors, Toyota management should focus on consumer satisfaction, Toyota must beware of arrogance. The study also recommends that for Toyota, it is important to be able to establish supply chain management systems

In light of this, this term paper aims at evaluating the model in which an academic research proposal is to be done. It highlighted steps in which a researcher need to take while writing a research proposal. It is concluded that, if a research proposal is well written, then the researcher would not find it difficult to carry out the research.
Tourism, a multidimensional business activity, was grown to be a multi trillion $ industry worldwide. Its relevance to country's economic, services, and employment generation performance is vitally recognized all over across the globe. However, in Pakistan, despite its promising potential, the state of tourism affairs is dismal. The paper attempts to diagnose the causes of crawling nature of Pakistan's tourism growth on empirical grounds and suggest ways and means to develop the industry through an optimum use of its natural, historical and cultural resources. For the purpose of focused analysis and empirical evidence Chitral Valley was taken as a reference point for the paper.
This study investigates the job satisfaction and job performance linkage among the employees of banks. The major determinants of job satisfaction are basically nine facets which are pay, promotion, supervision, fringe benefits, contingent rewards, operating procedures, co-workers, nature of works and communication. While in job performance is analyzed in the context of both task performance and contextual performance. The findings of this study revealed that job satisfaction and job performance have weak correlation and is significant.

AN ANALYSIS OF RESEARCH PROPOSALS AND CHALLENGES FACED BY POSTGRADUATE TRAINEES IN INTERNAL MEDICINE AND ALLIED DISCIPLINES DURING FELLOWSHIP TRAINING PROGRAMME: A QUALITATIVE STUDY

Objectives: To analyze the research proposals and challenges faced by postgraduate fellowship trainees in internal medicine & allied disciplines when writing a proposal.
Methods: The study was undertaken at the Department of Medicine, Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, from October 2013 to December 2014. This qualitative grounded theory approach analyzed proposals of 32 postgraduate students of internal medicine. Later, we triangulated our results with a focus group discussion amongst 10 postgraduate students who had completed their synopses.
Results: The number of attempts needed for correction of different components of synopses was 2-11 times amongst 32 proposals evaluated. The challenges found were related to; research methodology, formulating research questions or hypothesis, setting the background / introduction section, proforma making for data collection, objectives and references writing. About one third of the students found difficulties when writing an appropriate proposal title for their dissertation. From the focus group discussion, a total of six codes emerged after thematic analysis, which were later grouped under four categories. Three themes were deducted from these categories and were related to supervisors, College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSP) and students.
Conclusion: Most of the students had issues in preparing synopses, mainly due to lack of supervisor’s and CPSP support. The student-as-researcher needs the support of supervisor, and / or a mentor. Therefore, CPSP needs to consider the organization of more workshops and the creation of research facilitation centers in each hospital to help the students complete their synopses and dissertations.

The Advanced Studies and Research Board of the Islamia College University, Peshawar on Friday approved 75 research proposals of scholars enrolled with various teaching departments of the varsity. The approval came during the board’s sixth meeting chaired by vice chancellor of the university Professor Qibla Ayaz on campus. Deans and chairpersons of teaching faculties from physical, numerical and social sciences were in attendance. The vice chancellor praised the deans, chairpersons and director (higher studies and research) for taking concrete measures to ensure quality and speedy research in the university. He, however, emphasised that the Higher Education Commission guidelines and standards of research be adhered to. The vice chancellor said students and scholars from Afghanistan should be facilitated in research and higher studies with the ICP. Also in the day, senior lawyers led by Peshawar High Court Bar Association president Essa Khan called on the ICP vice chancellor and discussed issues of bilateral interest.

The Center for Translational Research (CTR) is a campus-wide resource for both existing and aspiring university-originated startups seeking non-dilutive funding—including Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) awards—to translate their university inventions into a startup company. It provides support to university faculty, researchers and staff as well as non-university employees of startups utilizing university technology.
The center advises teams on best practices for seeking non-dilutive capital for their startup companies, provides market research and industry analysis and offers proposal editing and critique. The center aims to secure funding for the translation of university technologies, thereby bolstering the impact of the inventions made on our campus.

Process for Center Services
Step 1: request support.
Start by filling out the support request form.
Request Support
Step 2: Initial Consultation
A meeting is conducted between key research personnel and the center's Managing Director. The scope of support and types of services required are detailed and scheduled based on the proposal and deadlines.
Step 3: Implementation
The research personnel are connected with services through the center. Iterative consultations and research activities take place by both the research personnel and the center.
Step 4: Submission
An SBIR/STTR proposal is crafted and submitted to a federal agency.
The research team agrees to respond to the center's followup survey detailing the experience and services provided.
Eligibility for Center Services
The center's mission is to translate CU Boulder innovations to the market through non-dilutive funding, including SBIR/STTR federal solicitations. This effort inherently involves both public (CU Boulder) and private (startup companies) entities.
The requirements to receive services through the center are the following:
- The technology being translated to the private entity must be rooted in intellectual property, which was filed by Venture Partners at CU Boulder ,
- OR the SBIR/STTR award must have a sub-award contract with the university to perform substantial research activity on the CU Boulder campus.
If these requirements are met, then the following processes must be completed during or after the proposal submission:
- All research personnel must have a current Disclosure of External Professional Activities (DEPA) on file with the Office of Conflicts of Interest and Commitment .
- All inventions must be disclosed to Venture Partners at the time of the proposal submission by filling out the Invention Disclosure Form . Then, a license is required in order to act upon the award if/when received.

Sponsored Programs Proposal Deadline and Fiscal Year End Reminders
Please review important upcoming dates and deadlines below, and reach out to your pre- or post-award officer with questions.
Summer deadlines for National Insitutes of Health proposals (June 5, 12, and 16; July 5, 12, and 16; August 8, etc.) are upon us. Proposal volume is always high this time of year.
If you intend to submit a proposal for an upcoming deadline, please notify Sponsored Programs immediately and submit according to BU’s Proposal Submission Policy :
- 5 days before deadline: All administrative components must be finalized
- 3 days before deadline: Final, complete proposal, including all technical components, must be submitted to Sponsored Programs
For example, to meet the June 5 deadline, Sponsored Programs should receive all finalized administrative components by Wednesday, May 29, and the final, complete proposal by Friday, May 31.
Adherence to this timeframe allows us to conduct a thorough review of your proposal and submit it with enough time to address any system issues on grants.gov in advance of the deadline (e.g., delays in submission confirmation and system-wide crashes due to nationwide volume). Proposals that are not completed until the day of the sponsor deadline are at risk of not being successfully submitted given high volumes and system pressures.
We will review and submit proposals submitted according to this guidance before turning to proposals received after these deadlines. While we will make every effort to submit each proposal, we cannot guarantee a successful, on-time submission for proposals that do not adhere to the Proposal Submission Policy.

Award Set-Up
Beginning June 1, in preparation for fiscal year-end, the award maintenance team will be prioritizing reportable transactions until June 30. Reportable transactions include New, Renewals, Continuations, Increments, and Supplements. Non-reportable transactions such as NCEs and Rebudgets will be addressed as time permits but completion in June is not guaranteed.
All transactions will return to a first-in, first-out basis beginning July 1. If you would like to track the status of your award at any time, you can use the Award Setup Tracker .
While sponsored accounts don’t necessarily fall within the standard BU fiscal date range of July 2023 to June 2024, you should still try to account for the following as we approach the end of the fiscal year:
- Do all salaries and non-salary expenditures look appropriate? Are there charges on your University cost center that should be on sponsored awards?
- Do you have an over expenditure that you need to move to your University cost center?
- Non-student salary adjustment deadline: Friday, June 14, 5 pm

Centre of Biotechnology and Microbiology

This degree prepares students for careers in biotechnology. The degree emphasizes DNA and cell technologies and their application to human health, plant and animal agriculture and the environment. The students are admitted after passing Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) in Premedical. A student earns his or her bachelor of Biotechnology degree (BBT) with in four years of full-time study. Courses in the first two years establish a foundation of basic knowledge for the study of biotechnology. In the third and fourth year, a vast knowledge and understanding of various biotechnologies ranging from agriculture, food, environmental, medical to advanced subjects of genomics, proteomics, gene ex pression & processes in cells, tissues, organisms and basic principles, operation and application of instruments is provided. In the final year, students may opt for a research project addressing some scientific problem with focus on the industrial, regulatory and management issues surrounding biotechnology.
Career Opportunities
Many of our students further continue postgraduate studies in national and international academic institutions, or work in biotechnology-based laboratories. Graduates may work in bioanalytical laboratories in government and industry, reproductive biology industries, Pharmaceutical industries, plant biotechnology and a range of veterinary and agricultural support industries.

The four-year program of Bachelor of Microbiology enables students to study aspects of basic life processes of viruses, bacteria, algae, fungi and protozoa. The main emphasis is given on studying their genetics, biochemistry, structures, and reproduction in the first two years. In the third and final years, courses in immunology, microbial diversity, metabolic regulation, gene ex pression and applied areas such as biotechnology, food, and medical microbiology are taught. Microbiologists can opt for a career in research, health professions, teaching, pharmaceutical, environmental, food, and industrial sectors .They can also work as medical illustrator, water quality inspector, ecologist, laboratory immunologist, waste disposal engineer, , food and drug inspector, mycologist, animal nutritionist etc. Students can work in fields of medicine, dentistry and other health professions as well as careers in research, production, regulatory affairs and scientific sales. Research and other work experience opportunities are available in the institute and surrounding private and government laboratories.
