If this is your case, go ahead with this section, but if you’d like something a bit simpler, proceed to Option 2.

  • The first step is to go to the Slide Show Tab. On the Set Up group, you’ll find the Set Up Slide Show option to start customizing your self-running presentation.

  • Once the Set Up Show Window opens, deselect the Presented by a speaker option, as it refers to manually advancing your slides, either by clicking or using keys. Next, consider several options for the automatic slideshow:

Permanently swap Powerpoint presenter view and slide show

I have a dual monitor setup where my main monitor is monitor #2.

Whenever I start a Powerpoint slideshow, the slideshow itself appears on monitor #1, and on monitor #2 I get a "presenter view". I can use the top-bar UI to switch between the two monitors (slideshow on #2, presenter view on #1) - that works fine. However, this setting doesn't persist.

Can I make Powerpoint remember to start slideshows on monitor #2 instead of #1?

On the Slide Show tab, under Monitors, you can choose which monitor to use as your presenter view monitor. PowerPoint will remember your choice for all presentations.

This was done on PowerPoint 2019, not sure about older versions.

When you're ready to present your PowerPoint slides to others, look no further than PowerPoint's slideshow feature. Use this tool for all kinds of slides, but those containing photos work best for most viewers.

Instructions in this article apply to PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 , PowerPoint 2019, PowerPoint 2016, PowerPoint 2013, PowerPoint 2010, and PowerPoint for Mac.

Before you create slides for your slideshow presentation, decide how long to make the slideshow, how it should flow, and the pictures you’ll use.

  • Length : A slideshow can be as long or as short as you need. The length of the slideshow should be appropriate for the topic and for your audience’s attention span.
  • Outline : It’s always smart to start with an outline; it helps you visualize your slideshow. An outline can be as simple as the list of topics you want to cover.
  • Pictures : Choose photos that are clear and tell a story.

With PowerPoint's Photo Album , select the pictures and PowerPoint creates the basic slideshow. Fill your slides with informative text and harmonizing background music, then turn your collection of slides into a self-running photo slideshow with music that can play as a video or be stored on a CD.

When you’re ready to make a photo slideshow with music, PowerPoint gets you up and running quickly. To get started, select Insert > Photo Album > New Photo Album .

Here’s how to add and format pictures for the slideshow using the Photo Album:

Add pictures

Select File/Disk and select the images you want in the picture slideshow.

Enhance photos

Place a checkmark next to the picture you want to enhance and change the orientation, contrast, and brightness. You’ll see the changes in the Preview window.

Add text boxes

To add a slide for text, select the image in the album list you want the text to follow and select New Text Box .

Rearrange slides

 Place a checkmark next to the picture you want to move and select the Move Up or Move Down arrows.

Choose a picture layout

 Select the Picture layout down arrow and choose how you want the pictures to appear in the slideshow.

Frame the pictures

 Select the Frame shape down arrow and choose a frame style. You’ll see a preview in the Album Layout area. This option will not be selectable if the picture layout Fit to slide is enabled.

Select Create when you’re finished.

Your photo slideshow is created in a new file. Add text to the slides and change the look of each slide.

How to Play Music During the Slideshow

Play music in the background during your slideshow to offer an audio counterpoint to all the visuals. The background music starts automatically with the slideshow and plays during all the slides.

To add background music to your presentation, select Insert > Audio > Audio on My PC , choose a music file, then select OK .

The audio icon appears in the middle of the current slide. To move it, drag it to a different place on the slide. When the audio icon is selected, the Playback tab appears. Select Play in Background and make changes to the audio file . Here are some suggestions.

  • Preview the music : Select Play to hear what the music will sound like during your slideshow.
  • Shorten the duration : Select Trim Audio to remove parts of the beginning and end of the music file.
  • Adjust the volume : Select Volume to make the background music louder or softer.

How to Set up the Slideshow

Once your slides are finished, it’s time to set up the slideshow. Start by deciding whether to show the slideshow in a window or full screen.

To set up the slideshow, select Slide Show > Set Up Slide Show and choose one of the following:

  • Browsed by an individual (window) : Run the slideshow automatically and inside a window. This option works best when you save the slideshow to a CD.
  • Browsed at a kiosk (full screen) : Run the slideshow automatically and at full-screen size. This option works best when you convert the slideshow to a video.

Select OK when you’re finished.

How to Add Timings to Each Slide in the Slideshow

Now it’s time to decide how long each slide will appear in the slideshow. To begin, select Slide Show > Rehearse Timings . The slideshow displays in full screen with a Recording toolbar and a timer.

While timing your presentation, use the Recording toolbar to advance through the presentation.

Select Next (arrow pointing to the right) to go to the next slide when the desired timing has been reached.

Select Pause to start and stop the timing.

Select Repeat to restart recording the time for the selected slide.

When you’re finished and have set the time for the last slide, close the Recording toolbar.

Select Yes to keep the recorded slide timings.

How to Edit Timings on a Slide

If you need to increase or decrease the time for your slideshow, change how long slides appear during the slideshow.

To change the timing for a slide:

Select View > Slide Sorter .

Select Transitions .

Select a slide.

In the Advance Slide After text box, enter how long the slide should appear in the slideshow before proceeding to the next slide, then press Enter .

The new timing applies to the slide.

How to Create a PowerPoint Video Slideshow

The easiest way to distribute and play your slideshow is in video format. This way, anyone can view your slideshow no matter what computer or device they use.

To convert a slideshow into a video:

Save the file.

Select File > Export .

Select Create a Video .

To force a smaller file size, select the Full HD drop-down list and choose a lower quality.

Select Create Video .

Select the destination folder and give the video a descriptive file name.

Select Save . It may take a few minutes to process the file and create the video.

How to Save a Slideshow to a CD or Other Removeable Media

To create a presentation that can be watched on any computer and can be stored on a CD or other removable media:

Select Package Presentation for CD > Package for CD .

Type a name for the CD.

Select Copy to Folder or Copy to CD and follow the on-screen directions.

When you’re finished, select Close .

If you’re wanting to reuse a PowerPoint presentation but would like to clear the slideshow's formatting, there’s no need to do it slide by slide---you can do it all at once. Here’s how.

First, open the PowerPoint presentation with the formatting you want to edit. To illustrate the before and after, here’s what we’ll be working with in this example.

Looking even closer, here are the formats our current slideshow is using:

  • Colors: Gallery
  • Headings: Gill Sans MT
  • Body: Gill Sans MT
  • Effects: Gallery
  • Background Style: Style 10
  • Background Graphics: Wooden Flooring

Once you’re ready to reformat, select the “ Slide Master ” option in the “Master Views” group of the “View” tab.

The first child slide is selected by default. Be sure to choose the parent slide above it, or the changes won’t take place for every slide.

If you want to assign a new theme to the presentation, you can do that here. Select “Themes” from the “Edit Theme” group and choose your desired theme from the drop-down menu.

Each theme comes with its own unique set of fonts, colors, effects, and so on---and there's certainly no shortage of items to choose from. If you want to stick with your current theme but change some of the individual formatting options, you can do so with the options available in the “Background” group.

Background options

Here are the different options available for reformatting:

  • Colors: Changes all the colors used in your presentation, as well as the color options available in the color picker.
  • Fonts: Changes all the headings and body fonts used in the presentation.
  • Effects: Changes the appearance (shading, border, etc.) of objects in your presentation.
  • Background Styles: Choose the background style for the selected theme.
  • Hide Background Graphics: Hide (or unhide) background graphics that come with a theme. This can only be used on each slide type in the Master view.

To make changes, select the option from the menu and choose your desired change from the menu that opens. For example, if we wanted to change our colors from “Gallery” to “Green Yellow,” we’d select “Colors” from the “Background Group” and then choose “Green Yellow” from the drop-down menu.

Repeat these steps for whichever options you’d like to change. We’ll make the following changes to our slideshow in this example:

  • Colors: Green Yellow
  • Headings: Calibri
  • Body: Calibri
  • Effects: Glossy
  • Background Styles: Style 10
  • Hide Background Graphics: Title Slide only

Once you’ve made the desired changes, select the “Close Master View” button in the “Close” group.

There are a variety of ways to start a PowerPoint presention, depending on:

  • Where you start your presentation (from beginning or from current)
  • Which PowerPoint view you prefer to present in (Slide Show view or Presenter view)
  • How comfortable you are with keyboard shortcuts

Why would Microsoft include so many ways to present a presentation? My guess is that everyone learns PowerPoint differently, and has personal presentation styles.  The more options you have, the easier your life will be as there will always be a way to start your presentation the way you want to (or jump back into it when you need to).

Start slide show from beginning.

To start a slide show from the beginning, click the Slide Show tab and select From Beginning

To start a slideshow from the beginning of your presentation using the ribbon, simply.

  • Navigate to the  Slide Show tab
  • Select  From Beginning

Selecting  From Beginning  starts your presentation from the very first non-hidden slide in your presentation, regardless of which slide you are currently inside of your deck.

You can also start your slide from the beginning of your presentation by hitting the Slideshow From Beginning keyboard shortcut,  F5 .

Regardless of which method you use, this is the classic way to start your presentation in full screen from your first title slide (regardless of where you are in your slide deck).

To start a slide show from the current slide, click the Slide Show tab and select From Current Slide

To begin your slide show from the slide you are currently on using the ribbon, simply

  • Navigate to the Slide Show tab
  • Select  From Current Slide

Selecting From Current Slide starts your slide show from whatever slide you are currently on, even if the slide is hidden.

You can also start your slide from the current slide you are on by hitting the  Shift+F5  keyboard shortcut.

Because it’s often easiest to catch errors when building your slides in this full screen mode, I highly recommend learning the  Shift+F5  shortcut and using it frequently as you build your slides to spot them for errors.

If you don’t want to bother learning the From Current Slide shortcut, you can also start your slideshow by clicking the  Slide Show  icon at the bottom of your screen.

This is a fantastic way to spot check your slides as you are building them. On top of that, it’s a fast and uncomplicated way to re-start your presentation from where you left off after demoing something on screen.

Start a mini-slide show in PowerPoint

You can also use the following hidden PowerPoint shortcut to run a mini slide show over the top of your current deck.

To run a mini slide show, simply:

  • Hold down the  Alt key  on your keyboard
  • With your mouse, click the  Slide Show  icon

Doing so starts a small slide show of your presentation that you can see below, from the current slide you are on.

Presenter View

The Presenter View is an alternate way to run your presentation in PowerPoint. In this view, your slides are projected on screen, and the details of your presentation are displayed on your computer as pictured below.

The presenter view includes your next (non-hidden) slides that is coming up, your current slide projected on screen, how long you’ve been talking and your speaker notes.

To run the presenter view from the current slide, click the Slide Show tab, hold the Alt key and click the From Current Slide command

To launch the  Presenter View  from the beginning of your presentation using your Ribbon, simply:

  • Navigate to the  Slide Show  tab
  • Hold down the  Alt key on  your keyboard
  • Click  From Beginning

Holding down the  Alt key  and clicking  From Beginning , the Presenter View will launch from the very first (non-hidden) slide in your presentation.

Showing and Hiding Presenter View

Regardless of which view you start your PowerPoint slide show; you can switch between the two different slide show views without exiting presentation.

To show or hide the Presenter View, right click your slide show and select either show or hide presenter view

To switch between the two slideshow views (while giving your presentation), simply:

  • Right-click your slide in whichever presentation view you are currently in
  • Select either Show Presenter View or Hide Presenter View

When would you use a feature like this during a presentation? One example is if you want to view your notes without leaving the slide show mode.

NOTE: The letter r  for both  Show Presenter View  and  Hide Presenter View  is underlined. This means that it is a keyboard shortcut. So, if you want to quickly flip between these two presentation views, you can simply right-click your slide and hit the letter r on your keyboard. Doing so automatically switches the view you are in.

Controlling how your presentation runs

Another way to control how your presentation runs (including the default laser pointer and pen color), is the Set Up Slide Show dialog box.

Click the slide show tab, and select the Set Up Slide Show command to control how your PowerPoint presentation runs

To open the  Set Up Slide Show  dialog box, simply:

  • Select the  Set Up Slide Show  command

Doing so, opens all your PowerPoint slide show settings and options as pictured below.

Inside the slide show settings dialog box, you can select:

  • How your presentation runs (full screen, window or in kiosk mode).
  • Your default pen and laser pointer color options ( see our laser pointer article here ).
  • Which slide you want start from, or which slides you want to show. You can also setup a custom show here.
  • How your slides progress (manually or using slide timings).
  • Which of your computer monitors (or screens) your slide show runs on.

Setup Slide Show SECRET Shortcut

Hold the Shift key and click the reading view icon to open the set up slide show dialog box

To use the SECRET shortcut to open the Set Up Slide Show dialog box, simply:

  • Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard
  • With your mouse, click the Reading View icon at the bottom of your screen

This is useful when you need to quickly cycle through lots of PowerPoint presentations and change how those presentations run. Instead of wasting time clicking through the Ribbon, simply hold the Shift key and click the  Reading View icon. This is also a friendly conversation starter with a fellow PowerPoint enthusiast at Happy Hour.

NOTE: The color of your Reading View icon might be different than in the picture above, as it is dependent on the Office Theme you selected for PowerPoint.

How to exit a PowerPoint presentation early?

Hit the escape key to exit slide show mode in PowerPoint

Regardless of how you start your full screen presentation, you can end your presentation at any time by hitting the Esc key on your keyboard.

Hitting  Esc  immediately takes you out of the   PowerPoint presentation mode and back to the normal editing view of your slides, on whatever slide you were last presenting.

Here is how you can use a combination of all the different keyboard shortcuts to spot check and practice your presentation in full screen before you finalize your presentation.

  • Hit  F5  on your keyboard to   start your presentation in full screen from the very first slide in your presentation. You can then use your arrow keys to advance, spot checking your slides for errors.
  • When you find an error, simply hit  Esc  key to return to the normal PowerPoint editing view to fix your slide.
  • When you are done, hit  Shift + F5  to return the full screen presentation mode from the slide you just updated. You can then continue spot checking your presentation (without having to start over from the beginning).

In this way you can quickly work your way through your slides and practice your presentation, fixing and adjusting your content as you go.

Understanding how to run your presentations is CRITICAL to the success of your presentation. Not only in presenting them live, but also in knowing how to spot check your slides as you build them.

I personally find it easiest to spot check your slides and quickly fix errors by running your presentation in slide show mode (or full screen). The last place you want to discover an error is during your presentation.

Using the commands and shortcuts above, you can quickly start, exit and step back into your slide show. Once you have these commands and features down, you will also look like a whiz during your presentations.

What if you've created slides and then realized they go better in a different order? This wikiHow will show you how to move slides in PowerPoint using the Microsoft PowerPoint desktop application, the mobile app, and PowerPoint Online.

Using the Desktop Application

Step 1 Open your PowerPoint project.

  • You can also open your project by right-clicking the file and selecting Open With > PowerPoint .
  • If you'd like to use the free web version of PowerPoint, log in with your Microsoft account at https://office.live.com/start/PowerPoint.aspx?omkt=en-GB .

There are lots of ways to share results of your R analysis: Word documents , interactive apps , even in the body of an email .

But sometimes, you want a slide presentation. It’s easy to generate a PowerPoint file from your R code – complete with charts and graphs – directly from an R Markdown document.

Create a PowerPoint from R Markdown

To create a PowerPoint from R, you need three things on your system:

  • PowerPoint or OpenOffice,
  • The rmarkdown package, version 1.9 or later, and
  • Pandoc version 2.0.5 or newer.

Pandoc isn’t an R package. It’s not R at all; it’s a separate piece of open source software designed for file format conversions.

RStudio ships with Pandoc, so you probably have a version of it installed if you use RStudio. You can run the rmarkdown package’s pandoc_version() function to see if you’ve got it installed and, if so, what version. If your pandoc is too old, try updating RStudio (or install pandoc directly from pandoc.org ).

There is an option to create a PowerPoint file from R Markdown when you create a new markdown file in RStudio.

Next, create an R Markdown document. If you do that from RStudio’s menu with File > New File > R Markdown, you’ll have a few choices . If you click on the second choice, Presentation, you should see an option for PowerPoint under Default Output Format.

The resulting R Markdown file created by RStudio includes examples for mixing text and R code results. If you save that file and then “knit” it by clicking the knit button in RStudio, you’ll get a PowerPoint presentation with the same information.

How did R know where to break the content into new slides? The default is “the highest level of headline that’s not followed immediately by another headline.” In this case that’s headline level two, or all titles starting with ## .

You don’t need to use that default rule, though. You can specify another headline level to auto-divide your document into new slides. That’s done in the doc’s YAML header  with the slide_level option, such as

But if you don’t want to fiddle with all that, you can divide content into new slides manually with three dashes. Make sure the three dashes are on a completely new line.

Presenting the weather

Here is an R Markdown file that’s a bit more interesting than the default doc, at least for me: One with weather data.

Notice the R chunk options I’ve set.  echo = FALSE  means my R code won’t show up in my slides. warning and message set to FALSE makes sure any warnings or messages from my code don’t appear in the slides either. I’ve also set a default figure width and cache = TRUE  . (I don’t usually cache results for a file I want to update regularly, but I did so to save time on the accompanying video.)

Get National Weather Service forecast data via R

My R Markdown setup code chunk also sources a separate file on GitHub that includes two functions for fetching weather data. Here is that code, if of interest:

The first function pulls a forecast data frame from the National Weather Service API using the city name and the city’s forecast URL as function arguments. 

You need to know the API’s forecast URL for a location in order to get its forecast data. If you don’t know that URL, you can get it from another National Weather Service API using the format 

The initial API result from the httr GET request is a list. The function adds code that returns only the portion of the list with the data I want, formatted as a data frame.

The second function takes that forecast data frame and generates a ggplot line graph for high and low temperatures.

Change the PowerPoint default font

If you want a different default font or font size for your R-generated slides, you can set those with a reference PowerPoint document and add info about that document in the R Markdown YAML header. I did that for these slides, as you can see in this portion of the YAML document header:

My reference file, CorporateStyle.pptx ,  is a regular PowerPoint file and not a PowerPoint template. To turn it into a reference file, I went into the file’s Master Slide view and set some styles. You can edit any PowerPoint file’s Master Slide view in the PowerPoint menu with View > Slide Master.

Whenever I want an updated version of that forecast PowerPoint, I just need to re-knit the document. I could even set this up to run automatically using Windows scheduler or launchd on a Mac.

Create HTML slides from R

There might be many times when you specifically need or want a PowerPoint file. One thing PowerPoint slides lack, though, is interactivity. For example, you can’t roll over a graph and see underlying data.

You could if these were HTML slides, though.

There are a few ways to generate HTML slides from R. One of the most popular is with the xaringan R package . xaringan is built on top of the remark.js JavaScript library. There is a bit of a learning curve to do more than the basics, but the look and feel are extremely customizable.

xaringan would need its own series to cover all you can do with it. But even basics can work for a lot of use cases. Below is an example of an R Markdown document with just a bit of customization.

Three dashes create a new slide. That first slide after the title slide won’t display; it’s setting defaults for the other slides. layout: true means “this is a slide setting up layout defaults.” class: center centers everything – header text, graphics – unless I specifically code it otherwise. 

The xaringan::moonreader output option regenerates the slides each time you save the file so you don’t need to click the knit button. 

The body of the file includes a graphing function I wrote using one of my favorite dataviz packages, echarts4r , to visualize my weather data. You can hover over lines on the graphs in these slides to see underlying data, as well as click legend items to turn lines off and on.

An HTML slide presentation lets you interact with visualizations, such as hovering over a graph to see underlying data.

If you do need to take breaks in between, or if your poster will be on display when you’re not around it, make sure to leave some contact details on the poster. This is to ensure that you can be contacted by viewers who may read your poster while you are not there.

Smile and be enthusiastic!

Have a smile on your face! You should appear friendly if you want people to approach your poster with questions or doubts. Also, be enthusiastic, even towards the end of your session. If you want others to find your work interesting, you should too! Take a genuine interest in their curiosity, and show enthusiasm when answering questions or doubts. While presenting, point to relevant parts of the poster so that the audience can follow along to what you say. Another thing you must do is maintain eye contact. Look at your audience while presenting as it keeps them engaged and involved.

Elevator pitches are a must!

You should have 2 elevator pitches ready for your audience. One that is a minute long, and another that is 2 minutes long. Talk about the topic, what you have found and why it is important.

Here is a sample of an elevator pitch that you can modify:

I’m exploring [RESEARCH QUESTION]. To answer that, I looked at [ ]. My hypothesis is [ ]. For me, the most interesting finding we got is [ ]. It indicates that [ ].

(Keep in mind this is just a bare bones example, I am sure you can come up with an elevator pitch on your own like this!)

Tell a story.

To keep your audience engaged, use storytelling techniques while presenting your poster. Your presentation should have a beginning, a middle and an end.

Start by talking about any background information they should know, and how you started your research. Then move on to how you got the conclusion, why you did the things you did, and what you found along the way. End with your conclusions, consequences, and any other notes you may have. Having a clear structure to your presentation like this can drastically improve your presentation!

Know your audience.

If you’re just going to have a general audience with varying levels of knowledge about your topic, you might need to adjust the degree of details in your presentation. Avoid complicated jargon, and keep your content. However, if your audience has people who are knowledgeable, then you may not need to do this. So, before working on the content, make sure you know your audience.

Ask a peer!

Always get your poster presentation reviewed by peer. Having another set of eyes looking at your poster is going to be helpful as they might notice mistakes or areas of improvement in your poster.

Less text, more everything else .

It’s always best to have less text and words in your posters. Instead try to fill your poster with more schemes, pictures and graphs. There’s no point in adding too much text, when you’re already standing right next to it to talk about your work. The only exception to this is the scenario where you are not going to be physically around your poster. In such a case, yes you can add more text to your slides, but still keep a limit. Nobody wants to read a wall of text.

Number your sections.

Make sure you number the sections on your poster. This makes it so much more easier for your audience to understand the flow of content. This makes them stick around for longer, and they’re more likely to read through your poster.

How to Make a Good Poster Presentation

You can use the tools you already have to make a good poster presentation. And by that I mean PowerPoint! PowerPoint is the best tool you can use to create poster. Here are some tips to keep in mind while creating your poster presentation.

Slide Setup

Your poster should be created on a single slide. There are a few things that you should note before you start designing your poster. When you’re done, you can print the slide right away from PowerPoint.

Check Dimensions

Always check dimensions of your poster first, before you start working on it. Once you figure out the dimensions, you can easily change the dimensions of the PowerPoint slide you’re working on:

  • Select the Design tab in the ribbon.
  • Select Slide Size .
  • Select an aspect ratio or set up a Custom Slide Size .

Focus on Readability

All information you add on your poster must be readable from about 10 feet away. So make sure your font size is big enough, and that there’s enough contrast between the background and the text. Make readability your top priority. Make sure you show your data and numbers clearly, and not too small.

Slide Design Tips

Your poster should read from top left to bottom right. Like I mentioned above, maintain a good contrast between the background color and the text. Use a light color background and a dark text. Avoid using gradient color fill background, especially black. The title should be almost cover the entire width of the poster with the main text broken into columns.

For font choices, sans-serif fonts work best. Make sure you adjust the font size depending on the font and the amount of text on your poster. For maintaining visual consistency, keep the headers the same size, and use the same font size for the entire the poster for all body text.

Here is an example of font size you can follow. For titles, try 72-120 pts. Subtitles can be smaller, 48-80 pts. Section headers can be 36-72 pts. And keep your body text between 24-48 pts.

If you need to save your poster as a PDF, you can easily do that by going to File > Export and click on Create a PDF document.

Edit and re-apply a slide layout

If you apply a slide layout to one or more slides in your presentation, and then go back and edit that layout by adding a placeholder, custom prompt text, or completing some other layout-altering action, you must reapply the layout to the slides so that the slides adhere to the updated layout.

Change an existing layout

On the View tab, click Slide Master .

In the thumbnail pane that contains the slide masters and layouts, pick the layout that has closest arrangement of placeholders to how you want your slide to look.

Note:  The slide master is always the top thumbnail, and the other slide layouts are beneath it.

Tip:  If you don't like any of the layouts, pick the Blank Layout and start over by adding placeholders to contain text, pictures, videos, etc.

To change an existing layout, do one or more of the following:

To add a placeholder, on the Slide Master tab, click Insert Placeholder , and then select a placeholder type from the list. Click a location on the layout, and then drag to draw the placeholder.

Add, edit, or remove a placeholder on a slide layout .

To rename the layout, in the thumbnail list of layouts, right-click the layout that you customized, and then click Rename Layout .

In the Rename Layout dialog box, type a new name that describes the layout you’ve just created, and then click Rename .

On the Slide Master tab, click Close Master View .

Apply the updates so that they appear on your slides

In Normal View, in the thumbnail pane, click the slide that you want to reapply the updated layout to.

Note:  To select multiple slides, press and hold the Ctrl key, and then click each slide.

On the Home tab, in the Slides group, click Layout , and then select the layout that you updated in Slide Master View.
