Briefly, various services and resources have been collected and provided by the internet for the improvement and promotion of humankind. In the history of humankind, the field of communication has developed a lot, and one of the most outstanding innovations is conceivable the Internet. However, everything has its advantages, as well as, disadvantages, and it depends upon the person to either benefit from it or allows the matter to harm the surroundings. The world may very well become a mix of virtual and reality, and it might be challenging at times to decipher between the two.

We might have real-time access to information about everything. There could be more ways to communicate. It might even be possible to connect humans to the Internet of Things.

The Internet has come a long way since it crashed when trying to send the word “Login” on its first attempt at communication. When we look at its full potential, it is clear to see that we still have a long way to go.

The Internet has brought many changes into our day to day life. Nowadays we can do things such as mailing, contacting, banking and communication much faster. Is this a positive or negative development?

The internet has revolutionized our lives. It has changed the way we connect with our friends and family. It has changed the way we access information and buy things. It has enabled people to work from their home. In my opinion, the internet has more positive impacts than negative impacts on our lives.

The internet has made information accessible to everyone. Much of the content on the internet is free. Anyone who has an internet connection can access it from any part of the world. Having an internet connection is a bit like having access to all the books in the world. In my opinion, this is the biggest advantage of the internet. Because of it, people can now get medical and financial advice online. Students can prepare for their tests online.

Internet also allows us to buy and sell things online from the comfort of our home. Online transactions save time and money. Another advantage of the internet is its ability to facilitate communication. Thanks to technologies such as video conferencing, people living in different parts of the world can now participate in online conferences at the same time. This eliminates the need for them to travel to another country just for the sake of attending a conference.

The internet has its fair share of disadvantages too. Plenty of obscene and offensive content is available online. While surfing the internet, children might stumble upon this content accidentally. In recent times, anti-social elements have started using the internet to recruit youngsters. This has become a major threat to the security of nations.

To conclude, the internet has both positive and negative impacts; however, in my opinion the positives outweigh the negatives. It has connected the world and made opportunities available to everyone. In fact, today, it is impossible for us to imagine a life without the internet.

However, with its numerous benefits, various disadvantages have occasioned, making it both a blessing and a challenge as discussed below.

The internet has promoted communication. It has done so by allowing individuals to communicate with others located in various parts of the world. Communication avenues such as emails, video chats, and social media platforms, have made it possible for one to communicate with others from the comfort of their homes and increased the speed of receiving messages. Consequently, due to the many internet-enabled modes of communication, more people in the world can communicate efficiently.

The internet is a source of information. It has brought together information from various sources, experts, websites, books, and journals on one platform making it effortless for anyone to find information about different topics such as law, business, religion, and technology among others. The internet utilizes search engines such as Google and Yahoo that customize searches and provide relevant information for one’s perusal. Additionally, platforms such as YouTube also provide different kinds of information in video form that entertains, informs and educate. Moreover, the Internet offers options where people can contribute and discuss the information they are searching.

The internet facilitates learning. Its incorporation in school systems is in various ways. First, by supporting distant and online learning whereby a teacher uploads course materials, videos, and exams through the internet and students in different parts of the world access them. Secondly, it facilitates the efficient and convenient running of institutions. Through the web, students register for courses, pay school fees, hand in their assignments and check their results online. Thirdly, it supports education by influencing students’ research. Through the Internet, students can gather information and prepare their assignments and projects.

The internet has heightened loss of information. With the ease in access numerous sources of information, the internet causes its loss through hacking and virus attacks. Criminals gain access to one’s information by breaching the security parameters applied on people’s computer and accessing information such as passwords, bank information, emails and private information. Also, it facilitates data loss through the introduction of malicious software (malware) on one’s computer or phone, which might result in a system crash.

The internet has led to the loss of touch with the real world due to concentration on the virtual one. People have become more dependent on the internet for communication, shopping, entertainment and learning. Thus, people fail to engage in face-to-face communications with family, friends, and colleagues. Consequently, it destroys their emotional connections and interactions, heighten their chances of developing depression and becoming isolated. The presence of avenues of entertainment such as games causes children to shun away from outdoor activities consequencing antisocial behavior.

The internet has created anonymity that ruins morals. It has brought people together to similar platforms, and since it does not require honesty for one to use it, particularly in social media platforms, people connect, communicate and become friends with virtual strangers who misrepresent themselves. Consequently, the aspect of anonymity empowers some individuals to stalk on others, commit crimes, bully and swindle others thereby destroying morals.

The internet brings numerous benefits to people’s lives. It promotes communication, eases access to information and education. However, its demerits make it a danger to the society. Insecurity of information, autonomy, and loss of touch with the virtual world makes it a challenge to families and teacher especially when exposed to children. Nevertheless, with caution and regulations applied to its uses, people can reap the benefits with confidence.

Human life has become advanced and easier for the world and has become a boon for communication and information sharing. It is a fact that the Internet has made human life easier and more convenient. The Internet has allowed communication through electronic sources and ensures the easy availability of images, information, and products, amongst other things. The Internet continues providing a new facility or something new which is highly convenient and makes human life much easier. The paper aims to focus on the merit and demerits of the Internet in the present age of human life.

The Internet allows one to communicate with individuals virtually in any part of the world through email or social media. Professionally and personally Internet had a significant impact on human lives with advancement and ease. According to (Wichstrom 72) information is probably the most considerable advantage which Internet has offered. It has been a virtual tressures trove when it comes to information because any topic under the sun is accessible on the Internet. There is unlimited information for just about anyone subject to a person ranging from law to space science, and rare topics for one to search. Search engines such as Google, and Yahoo have contributed all these years to advance the community as a whole. There is a wide range of information on the Internet, which is probably the most significant advantage of the Internet. The Internet is a virtual treasure trove of information.

Any kind of information on any topic under the sun is available on the Internet. The search engines like Google, and Yahoo have contributed to human queries in an unlimited manner. Today we can use websites dedicated to various subjects with a vast number of articles and papers available for perusal within a few seconds (Yiran). The world has reached a different level with the help of the Internet, be it education or remote work. Education in the present world is impossible without the Internet as there are highly effective sites for research. Online learning courses are also a new trend that is making individual life easier as they can learn and get connected with the help of the Internet (Wichstrom 72). People can use tools to communicate with any part of the world and learn or work with them. Organizations are using the Internet to facilitate communication between offices, employees, and customers or suppliers. When it comes to business internet is the new trend as it has offered a quick way to connect with the world through marketing on social platforms or individual sites. If people use the Internet wisely, they can advance themselves and get information to enrich their knowledge.

Every side has two sides, so there are several demerits related to the Internet with its increasing use of the Internet. The Internet has a dark side for adolescents as they get addicted and spend most of their time surfing as studied (Papsdorf 991). Most of the time, they neglect their studies and indulge in gaming or any other thing that is not pleasant. The Internet has allowed a great deal of anonymity to many individuals who might access several sites, forums, and chat rooms. It has allowed pervert people to take advantage of the vulnerable and has led to an increase in crimes. There is a various gaming site that has turned adolescents to shun every outdoor activity. Lack of physical activities leads children to fall prey to an unhealthy lifestyle and give rise to chronic illnesses such as obesity rather than failing to develop interpersonal skills.

Comparing merits and demerits

With the advent of the Internet, the traditional view of communication media has been altered. One must take medicine when a physician prescribes it, and it is similar to the case because the Internet must be used within limits. Doing anything without limits would take away creativity and time and can lead to difficulties (Dhir 35). The Internet has been a boon for society since each activity or societal function is covered. Thorough research on the negative impact does not mean that we are undermining the significance of the Internet in our lives. The essay has been written for the internet audience to understand the merit and demerits of the Internet in-depth. It is up to a person to choose between right and wrong while using technology.

The Internet has played a significant role in human life, including education, commerce, entertainment, health, and social communication. The Internet as a technology has been an outstanding achievement in terms of creativity and famous invention in the history of modern science (Dhir 35). An individual must be responsible while using the Internet as it will impact his or her life. Therefore, irrespective of the fact that the Internet has numerous disadvantages, it must be understood that it is effective for mankind in multiple fields. The Internet is robust across the globe that acts as an excellent source for research and learning. It has been an outstanding invention in the history of mankind and is contributing to human civilization in a significant manner. 

In conclusion, the points mentioned above have posed new challenges for every internet user as it portrays merits and demerits that have been a concern over the last few years. The users should use their intellect to make intelligent choices. One should not let technology distract their mind or harm their professional or personal life. It is, therefore, time to educate society, especially adolescents, on what to do on the Internet instead of controlling them.
