August 15, 1947 , was the date when India gained its independence. After a battle, we managed to free ourselves from the British Raj. In the following decades, civil societies and political parties in India gradually became strong, demanding self rule or Swaraj. A long battle of non violence and non cooperation ensued, finally resulting in India achieving independence on 15 th August 1947.
