You have the opportunity to study virtually in nine doctoral programs, including nursing, educational leadership, and parks, recreation and tourism management.

To obtain a doctoral degree, candidates must complete approximately 60 credits over a span of 3-5 years and successfully defend their dissertation.

Keiser University

Keiser University, which was established in 1977, offers 19 flexible doctoral degrees. You can attend classes on the 100-acre main campus or study at one of 23 satellite campuses. Programs offer evening, online, and daytime courses. Keiser's “student first” policy lets you take 1-2 classes at a time, depending on your availability. It takes about 2-5 years to earn your doctoral degree.

To apply for a doctoral program, you need to submit your master's or doctoral transcripts, a resume, personal statement, and an application with a fee.

Mississippi State University

The public research university MSU, which began admitting students in 1880 as an Agricultural and Mechanical College, now boasts 71 doctoral degrees, including 15 virtual programs. Nova Southeastern University

Nova Southeastern University, the largest private research university in Florida, boasts 14 colleges and 11 campuses. NSU offers 37 doctoral programs, with 19 of them available online. Earn a doctoral degree online in subjects such as criminal justice, computer science, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology. 

Departments such as the NSU Fischler College of Education and the School of Criminal Justice offer dissertation resources, including templates and mentor support. Each program sets distinct admission requirements, but you generally need a master's degree and a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Old Dominion University

Old Dominion University offers 10 online doctoral programs through its seven colleges and three schools. The program covers a range of subjects such as nursing, community college leadership, educational leadership, engineering management, English, instruction design and technology, and workforce and organizational development. 

Admission requirements vary across programs. For instance, the Ph.D. in business administration requires GMAT or GRE scores, while the Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction asks applicants to submit master's transcripts, an essay, and three references.

Saybrook University

Offering hybrid online degrees since 1970, Saybrook University now delivers 11 online doctoral degrees. You can earn a doctoral degree completely online or in a hybrid format with a low-residency option.

Doctoral students can pursue studies in counseling, integrative social work, organizational systems, mind-body medicine, integrative and functional nutrition, psychology, and wellness. To get admitted, you need at least a master's degree. And you complete up to 76 credits over about 4-5 years.

Texas Tech University

Created in 1923, Texas Tech's 13 colleges and schools offer 98 doctoral degrees. Texas Tech offers doctoral degrees in agricultural and applied economics, animal science, computer science, curriculum and instruction, and special education. 

Many of the doctoral programs, such as the Ph.D. in psychology and Ph.D. in wind science and engineering, offer STEM OPT Extension eligibility to extend your F-1 visa for up to two years. Northeastern University’s online Doctor of Education program provides experienced adult learners, working professionals, and scholar-practitioners from diverse backgrounds and perspectives with the practical knowledge and experience they need to transform the learning landscape. Students gain innovative approaches to create authentic change in their communities. The program was selected as the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate's Program of the Year for 2022-2023.

The Doctor of Education program is designed to be completed in three to four years of study—following a fast-paced quarter system in lieu of a traditional semester format. Students choose from five concentrations to create a curriculum that matches personal and professional interests. The program's dissertation in practice process will begin at the onset of your coursework as you identify your problem of practice and develop an action plan—incorporating cycles of data collection and analysis, collaboration, change work, and reflection—culminating in the dissemination of your action research findings. Our students come from diverse disciplines and professions, seeking more than just a degree. You'll gain a practical education that translates to your everyday working environment.

While all EdD courses can be completed online (except for hybrid courses in Seattle and Charlotte), annual in-person two-day residencies are held on campus. Residencies focus on networking and tools for career success and allow you to connect with faculty and fellow scholars to share knowledge and experience. You'll attend residencies* in your first and second years of the program at one of our campuses in Boston, Charlotte, or Seattle.

The Northeastern Doctor of Education degree is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) and was selected as Program of the Year by the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate Program for 2022-2023.

PhD Distance Education Admission? | Fees, Eligibility, Scope and Syllabus

• PhD Distance Education

PhD Distance Education?: PhD or Doctor of Philosophy is the highest university degree. PhD Distance Education allows students to earn a PhD degree from home without going to classes. Eligibility is a master’s degree with a minimum of 50% marks ; the student needs to give an entrance exam followed by an interview to get admission in PhD course. The fee is ₹90,000-1,90,000 per year , and the duration is 3-5 years. Need to submit a thesis at the end.

Note: Students who want to take admission in PHD course through open and distance learning mode should know that this course is not taught in distance learning mode.

Specializations offered are management, science, arts, etc. Expert professors provide online guidance. PhD improves career opportunities in teaching and research jobs. The application deadline for admission is the last week of March 2024 . Check official websites for exact dates. Focus on researching the topic of interest to crack the admission interview.

PhD Distance Education Latest Updates: March 2024

• PhD admission is not offered in distance learning mode at any university in India; if any university starts distance PhD admission, we will update you as soon as possible.
• International universities offer PhD distance education admission for the 2024 academic session, but in India, students need to pursue their degrees in regular mode.
• Various universities in India offer PhD admission in full-time and Part-time modes; students can choose any of them.

Eligibility criteria for admission vary across institutions and countries. Still, common requirements include:

• A relevant master’s degree.
• A detailed research proposal.
• An entrance exam/interview.

The average fee range for PhD programs in India varies, with public universities typically having fees ranging from Rs 1,50,000 to Rs 2,00,000 per year.

Is a distance PhD valid in India?

Ph.D. distance education is not valid in India. Classes in this course consist of theoretical as well as practical training, which is not possible to conduct in a distance learning mode. Therefore, UGC does not allow any university to offer this doctorate-level program via open and distance Learning mode.

Ph.D. Course Highlights

Note: The UGC-DEB has not yet approved Ph.D. distance education in India because learning is based on hands-on experience. So, a Ph.D. gained through distance learning is not valid. This article aims to provide knowledge.

A Ph.D. course is stated as the highest level, of course, and aims at providing students with the ultimate level of discipline. Students who have passed their master’s level education from a recognized institution or university can apply for admission into a Ph.D. distance education course.

Candidates who wish admission to this program must have earned at least a 55% grade point average in any PG or Master course from an accredited university. For admission, applicants must take a UGC or university entrance exam. After earning their doctorate, students will have many professional opportunities available, including government jobs, entrepreneurial jobs, consultant jobs, research associate jobs, and many more.

In this course, generally considered a research-based program, PhD students gain skills and knowledge in research and technical areas.

PhD Distance Education Admission?

UGC doesn’t recognize any university offering a Ph.D. program in distance learning mode in India (As we already mentioned above) because it is a research-level program. Students can pursue this program only in a regular mode of learning. The admission criteria are given in the below section.

The Ph.D. program duration is three years. However, the minimum duration of the Ph.D. programs differs between 3 and 6 years . The doctoral-level program allows applicants to boost their academic profile with available branches including humanities, commerce, management, education, science, and more.

When applying to Ph.D. programs offered online, applicants must have a master’s degree at the very least. A minimum score of 55% is required to be awarded the master’s degree. To be accepted into Ph.D. programs offered through remote education, students must pass the Ph.D. entrance test, also known as the PET. Tests at the state and national levels, such as the UGC NET and the CSIR NET, are considered national exams, and applicants who pass these exams are free from taking university admission exams.

Eligibility for a PhD in Distance Education?

Candidates who have passed the last semester of M.PHIL with a minimum score of 50% from any known and approved university in India are allowed to apply for this course.

It is the maximum level of education; there are no courses to opt for after Ph.D.

To get admission to a Ph.D., a master’s degree in India is a must in the chosen subject. In some institutes, there are entrance tests that have to be passed to get admission. In the final year of graduation, candidates can undergo the NET (National Eligibility Test) and be admitted to the program.

For engineering students, a valid GATE result card is needed for admission to Ph.D. Those candidates who are toppers at the universities in BE or BTech can get direct admission to the program.

PhD Distance Education Fees?

The students can check the Doctor of Philosophy average fee range of INR 1,50,000–INR 2,00,000 per year. The fee varies according to the Specialization chosen by the applicant.

Duration of PhD Programme

It takes a minimum of three years to complete a PhD through distance education. There are six semesters in the course in order to provide an in-depth learning experience in the desired area of specialization.

PhD Admission Process

The process for getting into the PhD programme can be done online or offline. You can also apply for a PhD in India through the website or by going to the college’s admission office in person. The general steps for getting a PhD admission are listed below:

• There are both online and offline ways to register for a PhD.
• For information about entrance exams, students need to visit the college’s website.
• Candidates must qualify if entrance exams are held. 
• Candidates must attend a counseling session once the merit list is published.
• Pay the PhD admission fee and upload the necessary documents.

Ph.D. Distance Education, IGNOU

IGNOU, or Indira Gandhi National Open University, is one of the best universities in India that offers Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy programs in the following specializations:

It is one of the best in terms of distance education. Here, a lot of students apply for distance education courses. Some of them want to apply for Ph.D. distance education admission. But, here, it is important to inform all those students that any university, college, or institution doesn’t offer a Ph.D. program in distance learning mode, including IGNOU. Therefore, students can apply for Ph.D. admission through IGNOU in regular learning mode. The duration of this doctorate-level degree program is 3 to 6 years for which a candidate wants to spend Rs 33,600/- per annum fee charges.

It takes admission based on the IGNOU Ph.D. entrance exam. The minimum eligibility for admission to IGNOU Ph.D. is a postgraduation degree in a relevant field.

Nalanda Open University PhD Distance Education

The NOU offers various specialized programs at the Ph.D. level that consist of Economics, Geography, History, Hindi, Science, etc. The minimum eligibility for the Ph.D. program is a valid master’s degree with 55% marks. An entrance test needed to be clear.

Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University Ph.D. Distance Education

The MPBOU proposes the Ph.D. program at 55% in master’s and clearing the entrance examination conducted by the university.

Dr. BR Ambedkar Open University Ph.D. Distance Education

Candidates may apply to the Ph.D. program under Dr. BR Ambedkar Open University after acquiring a minimum percentage of 55 % in master’s and clearing the entrance test conducted by the university.

Amity University Ph.D. Distance Education

Amity University’s directorate of distance education is a branch of Amity University through which it offers distance education at the Ph.D. level. The university conducts entrance tests at the university level, and if any students have passed the NET and JRF exams, the university offers scholarships to such students.

Ph.D. Distance Education Application Form 2024?

The application form for admission to the Ph.D. program has been released by various universities. Candidates who are interested in taking admission to this program in a regular mode of learning can apply for admission before the last date announced by their desired university.

While students looking for admission to this programme in distance mode need to drop their idea. Because no one university conducts admission to the Ph.D. programme in distance mode.

To be admitted, students must first register and submit all the necessary documents. If the wrong application form is not corrected by the last correction date, it will not be accepted, and the admission will be considered canceled. Students from the general category pay an application fee of INR 600, and students from the SC/ST category pay an application fee of INR 350.

How to Apply for PhD?

• Candidates seeking admission should register and apply online by logging in.
• Registration guidelines can be found on the university’s website.
• Candidates need to submit only one application. For admission under special reservations, candidates should also enclose the special reservation forms and certificates shown in Annexures I, II, III, IV, and V as per the instructions given in the Eligibility Criteria.
• All future correspondence (students) should include the online application number.
• Downloaded online applications must be returned with all attachments and payment details, either in person, by registered mail, or by speed or registered post, to the address in the online application.

Ph.D. Course Specializations

There are several different specialties and applicants when it comes to getting a Ph.D. via online distance learning. There’s no need to worry about that; we have listed some of the most commonly taken courses below, along with their prerequisites and costs associated with taking them.

PhD Entrance Exam 2024

In India, there are various entrance exams at the national, state, and university levels, Students will get admission to PhD courses in distance mode. The list includes UGC NET, CSIR UGC NET, PET, and more. We shall seek details of Ph.D. distance entrance exams in the following sections. Following is the list of top PhD entrance exams:

NTA UGC NET or UGC NET is a national-level exam held to regulate the eligibility for the respective post of Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor. Candidates who pass this exam are thoroughly eligible for admission to the doctoral-level degree program. Presently, the examination is being held twice a year in the following months: June/December. The mode of examination is online, and it has a duration of 3 hours. The registration fee for General or Unreserved category candidates is INR 1100.

The test is conducted by the national testing agency in the month of June. CSIR NET is a computer-based test. As a result of achieving a good score in the CSIR NET, candidates will have a better chance of getting accepted into a Ph.D. program. The application fee for CSIR NET is INR 1,000 and it has to be paid online. The online deposit mode is available for the purpose of making deposits. The exam has a three-hour time limit, which is 180 minutes long.

IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam

Students seeking a Ph.D. program in IGNOU have to face an entrance exam. Students have to face 100 questions each with four marks 50% of questions will be about Research Methodology and 50% questions about Specific Subjects. The Ph.D. entrance test has a total of 400 marks. Approximately three hours and 180 minutes will be allocated to the IGNOU Ph.D. entrance exam.

The career-enhancing opportunities provided by the distance Ph.D. program enable students to achieve remarkable heights in their professional lives. Applicants will be equipped with updated abilities after completing the distance Ph.D. program, enabling them to tackle professional obstacles.

At the companies where they are employed, they will be able to easily advance, or they may even be able to apply for numerous senior-level positions.

Ans:  PhD from a distance is considered invalid by the AICTE/UGC (University Grant Commission).

Q. What is the age limit for PhD?

Ans: There is no specific age limit to pursue PhD program in India. A candidate can pursue this program at any stage of age. PhD takes 3 to 5 years to complete.

Q. Who is eligible for PhD?

Ans: In order to apply for admission to the Ph.D. and Doctor of Philosophy programs, students who have a postgraduate (master’s degree) or an MPhil degree must hold a postgraduate degree.

Q. Is distance education valid for PhD?

Ans. No, PhD distance education is not valid in India. Therefore, no one university offered PhD program in distance learning mode. However, students who can not afford to pursue this doctorate degree program in regular learning mode can pursue this degree in part-time mode.

Ashoka University’s Ph.D. program is designed to maintain global standards in education, training, productivity, and academic freedom. The Ph.D. program in Biological Sciences is characterized by state-of-the-art laboratories and computational infrastructure, generous support to carryout field work, accomplished faculty as research mentors, and generous scholarship remunerations to all students. The Department of Chemistry at Ashoka University offers full-time graduate program leading to Ph.D. degree in Chemical Sciences. Prospective students are encouraged to be integrated into the world class research and liberal learning culture of the Ashoka University by joining a research group, supervised by one of our academic staff, in one of the following broad areas of Chemical Sciences

The Department of Mathematics at Ashoka University is currently inviting applications for its Ph.D. program. General Requirement

Applicants must have a first degree from a recognized University or equivalent Institution in the intended field of specialization or a related discipline.

Applicants must ensure that names on their application documents matches with names on their Academic Certificates.

     i.       Academic programme 1.1 – Degree holder with adequate knowledge in any field of study (ie. Science, Mathematics, etc) but do not have any educational background and are currently serving as pupil teachers (unprofessional teachers) in second cycle institutions.

   ii.      Academic programme 1.2(a) - 1st degree in B.Ed Social Studies or related programmes with Social Studies as major.

  iii.     Academic programme 1.2(b & g) - 1st degree in B.Ed Mathematics or related programme with Statistics and Quantitative techniques as one of subjects read.

  iv.      Academic programme 1.2(c) - 1st degree in Arts (B.Ed) or related programme with English as major.

    v.     Academic programme 1.2(d) – A Bachelor’s degree in Education (BEd) of any field of study.

  vi.     Academic programme 1.2(e) - 1st degree in B.Ed Psychology or other related programmes.

vii.   Academic programme 1.2(f) - 1st degree in a B.Ed programme.

viii.   Academic programme 1.2(h) - 1st degree in B.Ed Special Education, Educational Psychology or other related programme.

  ix.      Academic programme 1.2(i) - 1st degree holders with education background in any field of study.

    x.     Academic programmes 1.3(a-c) – These programmes are available for applicants who do not have any qualification in education programme and yet qualify for Academic programmes d, f & g .

  xi.      Academic programmes 1.4(a-d) - Applicants for the M.Phil programmes must have Second degree in relevant area education programme from a recognized University or equivalent institution in the intended field of specialization with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 .

ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES PROGRAMMES

     i.      Academic programme 2.1(a) – Applicants must have any of the following: B.A/B.SC/B.Ed degree from a recognized institution of higher learning or tertiary institution, with at least, a 2nd class lower division.

   ii.      Academic programme 2.2(a) - 1st degree with at least a 2nd class lower division in Social Sciences or Business (Applicants will have to pass an interview).

  iii.      Academic programmes 2.2(b, c & d) - 1st degree with a 2nd class division in Economics or related programmes with statistics or quantitative techniques as one of the subjects read.

  BUSINESS PROGRAMMES

i.    In the case of the MBA programmes , holders of final professional examinations certificate and membership of relevant professional bodies such as Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana(ICAG), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Chartered Institute of Banking (CIB); Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD); Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana (CITG); Chartered Institute of Marketing(CIM); The Chartered Institute of Insurance (CII): Chartered Institute of Human Resource and Development (CIHRD):   Certified Public   Accountants (CPA);   Charted Institute of Procurement and Supply   (CIPS) can apply.   For the MSc programmes (No. 3.3a-c), holders of professional qualifications such as CIPS, CIM, ICA, ACCA, CPA and CIMA can apply .  

ii.   Candidates applying for the MSc. in Procurement and Supply Chain Management programme should have a first degree or its equivalent from an accredited Institution in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or Material Management. In addition, candidates applying for the MSc. Programmes must have, at least, three (3) years post qualification work experience.

a.        Applicants are given a receipt or a text message (MoMo users only) containing a pin and serial number at the various Sales Centres. This will be used to complete the Application form Online. Applicants should take the receipt to the nearest Study Centre Coordinator for further instructions.

b.       Applicants should visit https://apply.ucc.edu.gh/ , and click on “CLICK TO APPLY FOR PROGRAMME” under APPLICATION PROCESS option. Applicants should then select POST-GRADUATE ENTRY under the VERIFY VOUCHER screen.

The main objective of a PhD program is to not only contribute to the domain but also enable the researcher to develop the competency of conducting research individually or in a group later on. MAHE Manipal encourages research in interdisciplinary areas and the academic program leading to the PhD degree involves course credit requirement and timely research progress presentations, ultimately leading to thesis submission on satisfactory fulfillment of submission requirements. All institutes / departments under MAHE Manipal are well equipped with research facilities.

PhD Distance Education Admission?: In 2024, if you want to join a Ph.D. program in India, you need to take a national or university entrance exam, while some institutions require personal interviews as well. For PhD admissions at Delhi University, CUET scores will be used. NTA has released the schedule for PhD Entrance Examinations at DU, BBAU, BHU, and JNUU. UGC NET is another important exam for central universities. VMOU, IPU, and IGNOU have PhD admissions underway. Applicants must have a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in their master’s degree and a valid entrance exam score to qualify for the program. 10 July 2024* is the last date to apply for PhD entrance exam and students must fill the application before the last date.

Note: PhD course is not approved to be offered by the distance education mode. The University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2017 issued a notification stating that the PhD degree pursued from the distance education mode will no longer be approved by the organization.

• Phd Overview: The Ph.D. program in India, in 2024, will provide students with unique qualifications and knowledge. This 3 to 6-year advanced research program covers several topics like the humanities, sciences, engineering, management, pharmacy, mass communication, law, etc. A master’s degree with 50% and a qualifying entrance exam score are required for admission to PhD courses. 
• Eligibility:  For admission to Ph.D. programmes, students should have at least 50% aggregate marks in their master’s degree. This requires a valid entrance exam score for the chosen college.
• Fees:  Ph.D. fees range from 70,000 to 1,20,000 Indian rupees. The fee may vary according to the university/institute.
• Entrance:  In 2024, Ph.D. programs will require national or university entrance tests and optional personal interviews. NTA will issue the PhD Entrance Examination schedule for DU, BBAU, BHU, JNU and other, whereas central universities rely on UGC NET. To get into these programs, applicants should have a high entrance exam score.
• Subjects:  The highest level of study can be found in a wide variety of Ph.D. specializations. Chemistry, history, economics, English, Hindi, commerce, computer applications, and business administration are all available. Ph.D. students can choose a specialization that matches their interests and academic aspirations.
• Last Date for Admission:  The latest admission date, usually 10 July 2024* , is significant for Ph.D. students. Staying updated about this deadline helps candidates submit their applications on time and increases their chances of getting into their selected Ph.D. program.

PhD Distance Education Admission 2024

There is no approval for the PhD course to be offered by distance education. According to a notification issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2017, the PhD degree pursued through distance education will no longer be approved by the commission as it was previously.
