Essay about trip to beach

Self needs to rest and relax after a long period of study and exposure to exams pressure, which makes summer holidays and high temperature of the atmosphere ideal opportunity to enjoy the sea and the moderate atmosphere of the beautiful beaches.

The pleasure of going to the sea is incomparable when you go with your family or friends. I remember last year when I went with my family to the beach in summer. The sea is about 400 km away. My father prepared the car and checked engine oil, battery, fuel, tires and belts. He booked for our stay at a hotel near the beach.

My mother and sister prepared everything we needed on our trip as light food and soft drinks to have on the way to the hotel. My sister prepared the necessary clothing for the sea, sunscreen and some essential medicines.

We did not take much food because we would be in a hotel in a coastal city that offers a buffet and there are many fish restaurants around the hotel.

We moved early in the morning to avoid the high temperature of summer and reach before roads congestion.

We stopped on our way for a short break to eat some sandwiches and have soft drinks. It was a simple rest area in the middle of the desert. We felt a sense of serenity and calm.

After four hours of driving, we arrived at the hotel at nine o’clock in the morning and went to our rooms to rest, change clothes and take all what we need to go to the beach.

We headed to the beach and we chose an isolated spot from the people, it had canopy and some comfortable plastic chairs and a large table.

We put our bags on the table and went to swim in the sea and then went out for lunch that my father ordered from a fish restaurant. The fish was fresh and tasty and we enjoyed our meal very much.

After lunch, we sat under the canopy enjoying the sea view, refreshing breaths, listening to music and playing some fun games.

Before returning to the hotel, we went back to the sea to finish our first day on this beautiful trip.

  • A trip to the beach essay

Last holiday I and my family were able to take a trip to the beach in my town, and we were able to gather with members of my mother’s relatives on this holiday.

My relatives are not from my town but from a town a little far from the shore. And they come every year to visit the beach and play with us.

I enjoy a lot in their presence because of the activities and enthusiasm they do. The beach has a different feel when they come. I always find them more interested, happy and willing to have fun than us.

The reason may be that the beach is always in front of us so we don’t get too excited about it. But at times when I accompany my relatives, I find myself more excited and come to know the value of the beach to others who are not able to see it constantly. Now, I really can appreciate this feature.

I find it great to have other people from time to time reminding us of what’s fun and great. We are always surrounded by wonderful things, but we no longer see them as beautiful when we see them for the first time.

Like watching the sunset on the beach, it made me feel so warm and comfortable. Sometimes I could watch the sunrise and I really enjoyed seeing it. I hope that I can enjoy all the moments around me and see my surroundings well.

Descriptive Essay Example of My Favourite Beach

We all have some favorite places that we love to visit during the holidays. The beautiful scenes that we come across are a welcome reprieve for our tired minds after a long period of work.

Finding My Zen at the Beach

For me, the beach is the best place to be. Others may think differently due to unique preferences and tastes. Personally, I find that the seaside is a unique choice for a holiday destination. There is nothing quite as calming as the bright blue hues of the ocean. The wind dances with the waves, causing them to move almost rhythmically, capturing the attention of the vacationer.

Another reason why I love the beach is that I enjoy swimming. I particularly love doing this with my friends as the company makes swimming more fun and provides a great way for us to bond.

Sunsets at the Beach

Another stunning visual to be enjoyed by the seaside is the sunset. I truly enjoy the play of colors as day transitions into night – from dainty pinks to fiery oranges, even to rich purples. I find this picturesque experience exceptionally dynamic. It makes something inside me come alive. I don’t have this experience anywhere else.

One great thing about staying at the beach is that there is something to be enjoyed during the day and during the evening. I love that the beach stays open most hours as this gives me flexibility. I can choose when I want to visit and not have to follow a strict schedule, which works well when I’m on vacation.

The Beach During Evenings

I particularly love heading out at nightfall to visit the shoreline. The beach is very calm, peaceful, tranquil, and relaxing. It helps me unwind and takes away the stress that plagues me at work. Looking at the night sky with all the bright stars and the moon causes me to feel light-hearted.

Silhouette of Man Standing Near Body of Water

The best part for me is once night sets in, I can lay in the sand and stare up at the sky. I just linger there with my toes in the soft sand and think of all the things I am grateful for. I also give thanks to the Almighty Creator who made these majestic works of art.

I can only hope that I get to do this more often. My dream is to be able to frequent the most beautiful beaches in the world, to revel in the peace that they offer.

Make Time for Rest

These days, people are so busy with work and other obligations that they forget to pause and take a breather.

The tendency for many passionate workaholics is they keep scheduling a time to take a break, only to postpone it when something urgent captures their attention. While some of these are valid reasons to reschedule, most are really just convenient excuses to stay busy.

The glorification of busyness is the sad reality that keeps people from being healthy and well. We work our bodies to death and don’t give ourselves a chance to come up for air. At some point in our lives, we have been sold a false idea of productivity: that we have to work 24/7, and that taking a break is a luxury.

Breathers should not be seen as luxuries but as necessities. Rest is actually a productivity strategy. The way to truly accomplish things excellently is to do so from a place of rest. Work smart and you check off your to-do list without the anxiety and the dread. Work hard and you will find yourself resenting the actual work because it’s just exhausting.

Don’t wait until you are burned out before you take a break. Schedule regular timeouts for yourself and use those times to “escape” to a place that helps you take a breath. Your soul, your work and your other commitments will thank you for it.

Whether it’s the sandy beaches for you or the mountains or any other hotspot, my hope for you is that you will also be able to find your sanctuary and safe space. Believe me when I say you need it and deserve it.

200 Words Short Essay About My Favorite Place (Beach)

Where do always I go when I want to feel relaxed? My family and friends all know that I head to where the ocean is. The beach is my most favorite place on earth. There is something magical about this place that makes me feel lighter immediately.

My favorite time to go is during the summer when the beautiful colors of the sky are most vibrant. That the sunset is amazing is an understatement. I could watch the sun go down after a blazing hot day over and over again. The gradually-changing hues are a glorious sight to behold.

The beach is my favorite place to find inspiration. I often find that when I get stuck in a creative rut, the extraordinary natural elements at my favorite spots instantly rejuvenate my mental stamina. If only I could go back every week, I would. Just watching the waves move in sync with one another is the best way to recharge for me.

Relaxation is important for everyone. There are other places that I also find charming, but I’ve found my sweet spot by the seashore – I hope you find yours too.

Introduction

Description of a beach.

Summer is the perfect time for individuals to visit and enjoy the marvelous scenes along the coast. In addition, the feelings and experiences felt on the beach during the summer are always fantastic. Several sceneries and experiences are seen and felt at the beach during summer. These include; the plantation along the beach and inside the sea, the animals, the waters, and the people found on the beach.

The beach appears to be alive and joyful with the presence of the natural vegetation. There are evergreen plantations both along and inside the beach. Images of buoyant seaweeds can be seen along the shore. Palms trees are seen to stand tall along the beach, dancing to the tune of the breeze emanating from the waters of the sea.

The sea grapes and the sea oats are also observed gathered in clusters in the sea next to the shore. Their colored flowers are splendid and brighten at the shining of the summer sun. The sweet scent of the flower grapes sends a signal to the world about the hope brought by nature.

The atmosphere is fully intensified by the aroma produced by the buoyant sea flowers. In addition, from afar, images of leafless trees are also observed. The perfect combination of the vegetation along the beach and inside the sea displays the beauty of nature to the highest peak.

It mesmerizes the eyes to gaze at the beautiful creatures that hover all over the beach and on the deep-sea waters. There are sights of beautiful birds that fly all over the dry shoreland and over the seawaters. Their colored feathers brightened the sea with a marvelous appearance at their illumination by the sun’s rays.

There are varieties of birds that are in the vicinity. For instance, there are pelicans and seagulls. Pelicans are seen hovering over the sand, singing sweet melodies that make the atmosphere at the beach vibrant. The seagulls are also observed to be flying over the seawater in small groups. Some of the birds are gathered in groups spreading the wings that cloaked a soft shadow on the gentle water ripples.

Next to the shore, there are sea turtles that seem to enjoy the summer heat from the sun. Their eggs are also seen to be exposed on the sand by the children that play on the shoreline. Bees are seen flying from one flower to another over the sea grapes. The humming of the bees as they gather nectar from the sea flowers attracts insect-eating birds.

Large crowds are observed all over the seashore. These people come to enjoy themselves on the beach at this period of the year. In the sea, people of all ages and sexes are seen swimming and playing with the cool seawater. The scorching heat from the summer sun is felt on the forehead of all individuals.

This makes the people chill themselves in the cool waters of the sea. The children are seen playing beach ball on the shoreline. Some children are also seen pelt each other with sand on the shoreline. Besides, young boys are observed climbing tall palm trees to gather fruits.

What is more, several activities take place along and inside the shoreline. Vendors are seen carrying ice creams and soft drinks all over the shoreline. Views of homes, hotels, and other buildings that run along the peak of the beach are also seen. On the sand where children play, pieces of shells are scattered.

In most cases, children collect the shells for fun. In the shades built along the shoreline, people are seen reading books, journals, and magazines. Some are seen idling on the sand, while few adults are observed playing football.

However, there is a disgusting scene of plastic bags, cigarette butts, food wrappers, and beer bottles along the beach. These items seem to pollute the entire shoreline and the seawater.

Anglers are also observed far into the sea casting large nets into the waters to have a bulk catch of their prey. Some of the anglers are also observed perching on the edge of the shore carrying sticks in their hands. Their faces displayed the anticipation that they had for their prey.

The deep waters of the sea produce a marvelous view for anyone who gazes at the sea. The water is seen to be slowly running low on the shore. Small waves are also observed crashing on the shoreline. The surface of the sea is seen to appear blue in color.

However, some portions are also seen to have the spectrum that results from the sun’s refracted rays. Deep inside the sea, there are high waves that lift boats up and down mightily. The shimmering waves of the sea that are clear and blue mirror the rays of the hot sun. The refreshing breeze that emanates from the seawater is enjoyable.

In conclusion, the beach has a perfect view and activities that are delightful to experience during the summer. It is a place that everyone would love to be at all times.

How to Write an Essay on How You Spent Your Summer Vacation

Last Updated: January 4, 2020

This article was co-authored by Alexander Peterman, MA . Alexander Peterman is a Private Tutor in Florida. He received his MA in Education from the University of Florida in 2017. This article has been viewed 52,474 times.

Writing an essay on how you spent your summer vacation is a classic way of starting a new school year. Think about this essay as an opportunity to tell a story about your summer while reflecting on the experiences you had. Choose a memorable moment you had this summer and start crafting your essay, giving as many details as possible.

Choosing a Topic

Step 1 Look back on mementos you kept from the summer.

  • These can also make nice visual aids if you are asked to present your essay.

Step 2 Make a list of the things you’ve done over summer vacation.

  • A list might be full of things like babysitting, attending a camp, working at a local store, taking a road trip, etc. This type of brainstorming can help you pick major events and other important moments from your summer.

Step 3 Write about a memorable moment.

  • For example, maybe you spent your summer traveling around Japan. Think of a memorable moment you had while traveling — maybe you walked up a mountain in the pouring rain — and write about this moment, adding lots of details.

Step 4 Create an outline...

  • For example, if you're writing about spending time at the beach, your outline could remind you to talk about the sandcastle building contest you entered, the dolphins you saw, and the ice cream you ate every day.
  • Details might be what the other sandcastles looked like, how far away the dolphins were, and what kind of toppings were on your ice cream.
  • Your outline is just to help you organize your thoughts — it can be written by hand or typed.

Crafting the Essay

Step 1 Focus on your feelings, interactions, and thoughts.

  • Instead of saying that you worked in a pet store, ate a PB&J sandwich, and walked home every day, talk about more than just your actions. You could talk about which pets are your favorites to work with, how it felt to eat the same sandwich every day, or what you thought about on your walk home.

Step 2 Use your 5 senses to explain your experiences.

  • Using sensory details like these will help your readers visualize and engage with your writing. These help your audience make your experiences feel real to them, even though they weren't there.

Step 3 Describe activities you did in each place you went.

  • For example, instead of saying “I went to the beach this summer,” try saying “I spent my summer swimming in the frigid water at Virginia Beach.” The more details you can provide, the more engaged your reader will be.

Step 4 Choose precise, descriptive adjectives.

  • Instead of saying “the burger was really good,” you could say, “the burger was juicy and filling.”

Step 5 Revise and edit your essay carefully.

  • Don't just rely on spellcheck. It will help catch some errors, but it will miss some things, too.
  • Ask a parent or other adult to read over your essay too, if you'd like.
  • Setting your essay aside for a little while will give you a fresher perspective when you go back to revise it.

Structuring Your Essay

Step 1 Start with a strong introduction.

  • Make sure your conclusion doesn’t just copy the introduction.

About This Article

Alexander Peterman, MA

If you need to write an essay on how you spent your summer vacation, there are simple ways to take your writing to the next level. Choose a moment that stands out to you, like playing at the park with your friends or watching a movie you enjoyed. Think about all the feelings and thoughts you had, and use them to write sensory descriptions that will take the reader on the journey with you. Use your introduction to set the scene and draw your reader in. Then, use each paragraph to explore different aspects of your favorite moment. For example, if you won a video game competition with your friends, you can talk about the rivalry between you, the rounds of the game, and how you celebrated. How to Write a Summer Vacation Essay

Summer break is a great time to kick back, relax and enjoy yourself and, if you’re lucky, to go on an awesome trip! But how can you translate your amazing vacation into a narrative essay for English class or work it to fit a common application prompt? Here’s some tips to help you out:

Save Mementos From Your Summer

Even if you’re not the sentimental type, make sure to document your summer travels. Take pictures, write diary entries, save train stubs. This is the best way to ensure that you’ll remember your summer well enough to look back and write about it later.

Write an Outline Before Writing Your Essay

Regardless of whether you spent your summer break in Madison, Wisconsin or Madrid, Spain, you should plan out what you’re going to write before diving in. Make a list of what you’ve done over the summer so that you can later narrow down a focus for the essay itself. Keep in mind that the best essay topics aren’t always on the most exciting activities an essay about getting stuck in traffic on the way to the airport on the way to Denver could work better than an essay on hiking the Grand Canyon and looking out at the incredible view.

Be Specific

Since you’re going to keep a record of your trip and come up with an outline before writing your essay, you should be able to put some detail into your essay. Be as specific as possible when it comes to your word choice. If you’re talking about some gelato that you ate in Italy, don’t say that it was “delicious.” Instead, say that it was “creamy and chocolatey, with a note of vanilla.”

Focus on Feelings About Your Trip, Not What You Did

If you spent the summer on the beach in Cape Cod, you shouldn’t write about what you did. You should write instead about how you felt while there. An essay that reads “I went to beach, then had lobster for dinner” is not quite as exciting as one that goes, “As I went for a walk on the beach, I thought about how lucky I was to be able to enjoy nature.” Feelings translate better into text than events, and you should try to place those feelings into context.

Stick to Writing About a Small Moment

With any essay you write especially a short one it’s important to focus a narrow moment in time. Don’t write about your entire week in Paris. Instead, write about the moment you got lost in the city at midnight and fumbled your way home in the dark. You don’t have to pick a particularly glamorous moment from your trip, but you should pick one that meant something to you.

Edit Your Essay Carefully

The shorter the essay, the more important precision is. Regardless of length, make sure to carefully read over what you’ve written to make sure every sentence conveys the message you most want displayed. The editing process matters just as much as the writing process, even if it seems less so.

Tips on Writing the Best Descriptive Essay

  • Have experience about the beach. It’s critical that you get conversant with what you are writing about. If you haven’t visited the seashore, try reading widely about the experience. Or, grab a documentary movie.
  • Keep your statements clear and concise. Vague information may not only be confusing but also boring.
  • Describe every aspect of the beach. Write about the weather, water, soil, sound, smell, sky, horizon, sun, flora and fauna. You can also talk about the people at the beach. Don’t forget your feelings.
  • Have a logical organization. You can choose to pick a theme for every paragraph. Or, you can keep a chronological flow. Also, be sure to have an introduction and conclusion paragraph.
  • Remember to review your work after writing.

Free Descriptive Essay Samples About the Beach

Last summer, I had the chance to visit my aunt at her coastal home. The octogenarian , I have to admit, lives in one of the world’s most serene places. The beach is a fantastic phenomenon and the fun that comes along with it is overwhelming. Two weeks into the visit, my cousins took me to the seashore, and I just couldn’t get enough of it. I fell in love with the splashing waters and cool breeze. I hated that evening would come and we’d have to leave the blissful sensation of the beach. I nonetheless promised myself to make the most out of the short time we would spend there.

We set out early in the morning with our cameras and light shorts. A light breeze blew and it took my soul with it. I felt like I was in a whole new world. The wind brought fresh air to my nostrils and I just couldn’t help but pump as much as I could. It not only filled my lungs with rejuvenating oxygen, but also my mind with a hope of having the best day of my life. My ears weren’t left behind either. It’s like the fresh air was singing melodious blues as we walked. I was sure experiencing something I’d never experienced before.

We arrived on our scooter right on time for the rising sun. Never in my life had I seen such a majestic view. We’d left home early on right before the sun would mark its territories. And, apparently, our cameras were getting the best work they’d had for years. Towards the east, the sky was literally burning. The first rays were already throwing their warmth across the sky. They were doing just like cheerleaders would do during an NFA match. Or, better still, like the escort guards from the Secret Service do before the Head of State arrives.

The rays did their job pretty fine. They were yellow and glittered like the flames of an enormous camping bonfire! While the sky was showing its beauty, the sea was glittering and reflecting back. It was as if they were partners colluding to welcome a big guest. The yellow glare made our photography interesting and every shot was worth it.

The sun finally hit the surface. The ground acknowledged its presence and started glittering. The tiny sand particles shed silver lights all over the beach. The sweet rays caressed my skin and I now understood why everyone at the seashore liked to expose theirs. It was a gentle warmth, I have to say!

My excitement was rejuvenated. But I couldn’t possibly beat the birds. They shouted with a wild joy. They jumped up and down. I saw several of them chase after sea creatures. It was marvelous watching the birds dive into the water and suddenly shoot up into the sky like rockets. No sooner had we joined them into the diving than people started coming out of their homes. The shore was flocked now. Some came for entertainment while others were looking for fishing grounds. It was a beehive of activities I tell you.

When evening came, it was yet another scenery in the sky as the sun dived into horizons of the sea. People started going back to their homes and the birds gradually became silent. The evening breeze blew, bringing another refreshing smell of the salty water to my nostrils. Waves of water splashed onto the coral reefs as the tides took new positions. The fishermen set out their nets as if their day was just beginning. Suddenly, my aunt was calling. She knew we were having too much fun, and that we’d possibly get late.

Sample 2: A Day at the Beach

We arrive at the seashore at day break. Bright yellow rays of the sun greet us. Their golden mien reflects on the surface of the water. The sun – the main guest – hasn’t arrived yet, but the beach is well lit already. The blue cloudless sky is overly yellow towards the east, which alerts that the sun will be ruling the day beginning soon. A breeze blows by, filled with a refreshing smell of the salty sea water. It gets me reminiscing about my childhood. I get nostalgic of molding magnificence with the sea sand. But today is another day altogether. I’m far older, with a wife, a son, and a daughter. Today is their day. I am just a companion.

The sun is now in full control of the seashore and its effects can be felt by everyone. It’s warm, and the air is filled with moisture from the sea. The ground is mildly warm, and the fine sand particles are glittering like scattered pieces of silver. I can’t help but keep getting strands of my hair off my sight as the wind blows them wildly. My wife’s case is more serious. But she looks gorgeous at the beach and seeing her playing with my kids makes me feel how quick I’ve grown and transformed. I look back at my childhood with a reassuring gaze as I watch my two bundles of joy run alongside their mother in the warm sand at the shore.

The birds stop singing now. Their entertainment about the new day is gone and they are focused on food search. It’s fun to watch them jump into the water, capture crabs and fishes, before darting into the air at electric speeds, like shooting stars.

My son is dying to swim. I know this side of the ocean isn’t crocodile- or shark-infested, but I still want to be sure. I remember that as young boys, we were so fond of swimming until when one day we saw a scary scaly rock moving on the water. It looked like a submarine that kept emerging and submerging. One boy yelled after he recognized it was a baby crocodile. I just feared reptiles and he saved us from what would be an end of an era for us. After confirming that it is safe to swim, I allow my kids to swim on one of the shallow waters around us.

I notice I am not the only one who cares about my children. A few yards away, a kingfisher is already teaching her chicks how to get food. They descend from the palm tree at the edge of the sea. The baby kingfisher can’t swim but her mum is doing all she can to offer the help. I also take a snap of a school of dolphins. They are far from the beach but with the help of my binoculars, my wife and I enjoy the glamor of seeing them jump up and take dives as they chase a boat.

It’s evening now. My family is happy that they have had as much fun as they’d hoped for. We’ve already eaten roasted fish from the lake for lunch. The beach, flocked with swimmers and sunbathers a few moments ago, is now getting less busy. Fishermen are starting their night shifts. The sun is already diving into the horizon of the water, leaving behind a huge yellow light. Birds start to sing again. It’s time for me to drive my family back home.

The beach is the place I go to whenever I need to relax and forget about all the hustles of life and just enjoy myself. As usual, my last visit to there was a memorable one. Already in my beach attire, a draught blew across the sea sweeping away with it my spirit. The sun split its way through the scattered cumulus clouds as if it was shying away from giving some light. As I took in a breath of fresh air, my nose was tingled by the smell of the salty sea. A mine field of corals made up the beach sand, with an abundance of multicolored sea shells. A bed of blankets was however formed by the sand at the same time. Like my previous visit, this visit was promising to be one filled with immense joy and relaxation.

My heart somehow pounded like a drum-set of an orchestra from the way the beach sand flowed onto my feet and tickled my toes. The feeling was delicate especially given that the sand grains were so fine it was almost impossible to see them through the human eye. The sea waves soothed me through a dulcet lullaby thus drawing me closer to them as I reminisced my childhood. It was like they were giving me an invitation with wide open arms. However, my feet would not oblige at this time because they were penetrated by the frigid waves. So, I just sat down with my head raised to the sky as I watched the sun stretch out and make its way across the sky.

The warm sun rays gradually glowed as minutes passed by, reaching down to me and giving me a shining streak of light as if to tell me, “Hey, hold my hand!” I received an immediate boost of excitement as the blazing light pierced through my cold skin. Tracing its way up the sky, the sun distributed its light to everything it could lay its sight on. Birds flying across the sky trying to claim it for themselves were singing sweet melodies with high spirits into my ears. From the sun rays, the sky turned into an illuminated shimmering blue color from a dark misty indigo one. The scattered rainless clouds that were initially blocking sun rays melted away into thin air and gave way for the water to heat up.

I slowly made my way to the edge of the beach once again and immersed my toe into the now swiftly heating up water. I hastily withdrew it as it felt like it was melting away into the sea in spite of having been numb before. The pungent smell that came from decayed algae filled the air and my acidic stomach responded by turning to its side. I could hear the sounds of fish that were possibly calling for attention from under the sea. I could at the same time tell that the fish were afraid of the sea creatures that were hungrily preying on smaller water creatures for lunch. This was a survival tactic, I could tell.

As the evening was drawing, people poured onto the beach to enjoy the serenity and perfect weather. Children ran up and down as laughter filled up every corner of the beach and people even played beach football and volleyball. The day was finally coming to an end and one by one, people started leaving slowly after what had been a day full of excitement. It was unfortunate that as much as I had wanted to continue staying on the beach and continue undergoing this memorable experience, my turn to go home finally came. I left with a heart filled with happiness and peace and a tired body and promised myself that I would go back there as many times as I would be able to.

Essay about the Beach

Diamond beach is what most people would call “a little paradise or a piece of heaven on earth.” The spectacular, flawless white beach stretches with no limit for the eye as it goes across the ocean so amazingly. Just by gazing at the endless sands, as the sun’s rays rest on the waters freshly emerging from their resting place, anyone would be astounded by the beauty of nature. The clouds timidly exposed as the sky beams blue making it obvious that this would be a beautiful day. It is not hard to hear the ocean whisper its promises for the day due to the serenity of diamond, as the graceful sounds of songbirds light up the morning mood. The reigning feeling is that of a soothing calmness that makes life difficult for an iota of gloom. Nature seems to be passing across the message that a great day filled with happiness and devoid of mishaps should be expected.

The smell of fresh air taking you away from all the hustles and bustles of a polluted environment in an ordinary day is nothing you would want to miss. In a world where air pollution has become so rampant, I believe allowing everyone to experience the fresh breeze would be a great lesson for conserving our ecosystem. The freshness and tranquility of the atmosphere at Diamond beach defines a habitable ecosystem that every living thing deserves to experience. Being at this beach makes you appreciate that this world is truly a beautiful place. You forget all your worries as your mind sinks into the serenity making you want to live forever. It is one place that reminds us to appreciate life and conserves the beauty of nature. It directly talks to us to acknowledge that life does not have to be first-paced all the time. It makes the importance of taking time off to real and unwind become so real and necessary.

Diamond beach is a rare and precious place to be. I know millions of beaches exist globally, but none is like the diamond beach. The light kisses from the coastal breeze, the smell freshness, the purity of the sand, and the crimson beauty of water is out of this world. Regardless of whichever angle you may view the beach from, you will not miss noticing the splendor of this natural feature. Every step in the beach leaves fine-grained sand shifting as if paving the way for the next step you take. With every motion forward, you feel like you are walking on freshly fallen snow. The only difference is that the crystalline white blanket bequeathed by the winter normally is cold but on the beach, it is warm thanks to the sun rays.

During the day, you cannot fail to notice a change in the cute sand particles as they form a golden reflection from the sun. It appears as if the sun rays are trapped inside the unmelting sand crystals forming the beautiful yellow golden color. Interestingly, upon picking the sand gravels, they rest on your palm like diamond crystals illuminating a white color between your fingers. Despite the midday heat, being at the beach at this time is an opportunity to witness its brightness entirely. The fact that it is conserved as a private beach adds to its numerous advantages and lessens congestion giving everyone a chance to connect with nature undisturbed. It is almost impossible not to notice the ocean at this point of the day. It waves curl up and down, rolling in white tipped shapes, spreading like fine silky laces over the beach. The way they softly crash on the beach or violently splash their waters overboard is simply stunning. The gentle sound that emanates from their contact with the beach makes the feeling even more fulfilling.

If the ocean were a person, I would describe it in many ways. It would be at one point introverted, calm, still, graceful but at another point extroverted, throwing waves aggressively, outgoing and interactive. The behavior of the ocean cannot be described as noisy despite all the commotion that appears to be going on. Only slight wave sounds that a keen soul would hear. I think the ocean has many secrets it would share with people if it could talk. For me, its silent sounds take me back to a time of reflecting and appreciating life. They give new meaning to life. With every turn of the wave that comes and goes, I remember we are all passing by in this world, and the best thing to do is appreciate what we have, before the next wave takes over. For a moment, I am lost in thoughts when a palm leaf drops on my silky dress and brings me back to reality.

It is almost impossible to go on discussing diamond without describing the splendid physical environment that surrounds the beach. The physical environment of the beach is superb. The first thing that I notice as I focus my attention on the beach is the relaxation mood. People from all age groups can be seen on beach seats with colorful costumes and fluffy towels. I guess they are just from enjoying a swim. On that note, I should not forget to state that lovers of swimming will enjoy being in Diamond. The water temperature is never hot or cold but perfect for a swim. Small adorable children in white costumes appear like angels creating sand castles as others run across to float kites on the cool breeze. The teens are frolicking with beach balls having a time of their lives as the young adults cuddle, hold hands, and share special moments while taking a walk along the shoreline.

A few meters away a particular group of people can be seen excluded for religious reasons. As I draw my focus to that group, I realize that they are having an outdoor yoga class. What a great place to connect with your internal senses and spirituality. Diamond is definitely the place to be for yoga especially during morning or evening hours. There is little interruption and the silence is just what you need. Upon inquiring from one of the yoga instructors, I am told that the classes have been going on for a while in the same spot. According to the instructor, people have found peace in their lives since they started visiting Diamond beach for yoga. If you love yoga, you have found a recreation and a spiritual connection site.

Diamond beach stands out in the Caribbean Island of modern beach houses giving the inhabitants a panoramic ocean view. The mastermind behind the exterior was Chad while Davis studio aided with the interior and Enzo the landscaping to give an elegant piece of artwork. The prowess and architectural expertise is incredible as everyone who walks to the beach never fails to notice the splendor. Attractive colors that allow calm and light are a perfect complement to the beach which is bright during the day. The Hi-tech beach houses which have been designed in the latest architectural designs are similar, all having balconies facing the sandy beach. From the balcony, you enjoy seeing the spectacular ocean view as lounges of water cover up the entire place. Those living or visiting Diamond enjoy beautiful weather which cannot be described as sunny or humid. It is just perfect.

Serving the visitors, tourists, and locals in the beach is the Diamond hotel. It’s shaped like a diamond and is an exquisite place to be if you plan to spend a few days on the beach and do not live nearby. They offer great room services and maintain a high level of hygiene and cleanliness with excellent customer care services. The rooms are ample and spacious with perfect temperatures and an excellent view of the beach. You get to enjoy free internet connection, music system, and laptops for use while you enjoy visiting the beach. The rates are cost-friendly as the hotel packages cater for people from all age groups. If you have toddlers, you should not worry as there are special cots and nurses to attend to children. If you have special needs, the staircase and special rooms have been modified to meet them. The reception, ambiance, and hospitality of the hotel will make you stay longer. Recreational activities are available with a fully-serviced gym for fitness, spa, massage, and beauty parlor to make you gorgeous as you go out. Besides the remarkable fitness and beauty services, there are spectacular mouthwatering and finger-licking delicacies to choose from. The food is freshly served upon placing an order while alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are also in plenty. In general thus, visiting Diamond beach is a memorable and magnificent experience. Getting a chance to interact with the lovely, friendly Caribbean people and share in their rich dance culture could even make you want to change your nationality.

Descriptive Essay On Beach Vacation

My family has been looking forward to our annual beach vacation since last year's trip to Alabama. Although it has been a long, winding journey for two days, hauling through five states and having a personal concert in the passenger seat for fourteen hours, it was all worth it by the time we make it. Beach Boulevard is overflowing with giant houses, palm trees, stores, and thousands of other activities we are in a position to do. Everyone in the car is so antsy, we roll our windows down and breathe in the sweet, warm Alabama air. My eyes locked on my phone, I count down the miles until we arrive at our destination. Ten miles... Five miles... Three miles... One mile... Two-Hundred feet... “You have arrived at your destination,” Siri informs me. Pulling into the driveway, not a single soul waits for the car to stop completely. We leap out of the vehicle, hugging my distant relatives from Louisiana and rapidly begin sprinting down to the water. My friend, Kambri, and I are flinging sand behind us, with the wind blasting against our faces. Finally arriving to the ocean, we stand shoulder to shoulder along the shore, taking it all in. Silently, we listen to the continuous, calming crashes of water, allowing it to splash up our legs, for the salty breeze to blow through our hair, and the rays of the sun shine on our pale adolescent bodies. I have never felt more at home than I do right now, in this moment in time. My extended family promptly begins to unpack the loaded vehicles. Opening the wide truck tailgates, there is not even room for a fly to buzz around back there. Stuffed to the top, the bed of the truck was full of over packed clothes, unhealthy sugary snacks, tubs packed to the rim with bottles of sunscreen, and of course, a plethora of sand toys. Us kids toss the bags at the top of the winding staircase, quickly scoping out our temporary house for the week. As we make it up to our room, we do not skip a beat unzipping our suitcases to find the superb fitted, blue bikini for our first day in paradise. Before any adult has time to summon us back downstairs to help them finish unloading the cars, we are out the door and headed down to the beach. On our journey down, we each grab our newly purchased, Aztec

Descriptive Essay On A Great Vacation

I was sitting on a hot steamy white sand beach where the ocean was washing into the shore. Cinque Terre was a nice vacation spot to chill, relax, and go for a swim. Ninety-Five degree weather all day long, everyday. My family and I were staying in a small, no air-conditioning house with only 3 bedrooms. During our sleep, we forget to close the windows so little lizards come into our house and crawl up our walls. Cinque Terre is a great vacation spot for many family activities!

Descriptive Essay On The Ocean City

After traveling for 3-hours, my family arrived at our beach house in Ocean City Maryland. After making a quick trip for groceries, we decided to go to bed and set alarm clocks for early in the morning. After a good nights sleep, I woke up to the pleasant smell of bacon and eggs. After feasting on a delightful breakfast, my brothers and I began to get ready for the beach. We went down the creaky wooden stairs of our beach house and unlocked the storage room located beneath the home. I decided to carry both of the floral umbrellas while my brothers took the portable beach chairs. After grabbing all of our gear, we headed back up the weathered stairs and towards the distant sand dunes. As we approached the entrance of the sand dunes, the satisfying sounds of the ocean's waves started to become closer and closer. Once we traveled closer, the vivid orange sun began to ascend from the deep sea. At this early point in the morning, the sand walkway enclosed by dunes, hadn't heated up from the sun, so the sand had a soothing feeling of cool sand between each toe. Upon reaching the shore, we noticed that not many beachgoers had set up their

Personal Narrative: Moving Away

Tick! Tock! Tick! Tock! The sand in my hour glass was shifting as gravity pulled each particle. Then I realized, all of these particles of sand will soon fall to the bottom, I could either let my precious last moments in Florida perish like the sand or celebrate them as if they are the last days. So, I began to call my friends, and make a list of places and things I wanted to do. Before I move I wanted to visit my old house where I lived until I was six years old, I wanted to relive my precious moments, with hope for approval, I visited my parents’ room. I asked my mother with deep hesitation, thinking her answer determines the fate of my last days in Florida. “Hey mom, can we go to Palm Beach one last time before we move? Can we..? I had so much to say, but very little time. Then gracefully she replied, “Yes, we’ll try to visit as many places as possible, but we only have one week.” So the first thing next morning we begin our three-hour drive, upon our arrival at the town of Royal Palm Beach. I began to recall my childhood, my first day of school bright and fresh in my head like the sun. The rays of that memory also touch other pleasant memories such as learning how to read, ride my bike, and getting my first dog. My dad moved to the United States when he was thirteen, he once told me that “When you do something new, you can’t look back, otherwise you’ll never discover anything new or experience something new and life is all about experiences”,

Blue Beach Research Paper

To start off with, getting out of the car after a twelve hour car ride is the best feeling in world. When I got out of the car the first thing I noticed where how many people there were and how salty it smelt. It's so salty around the beach you could even taste the salt in the air. Newport Beach is one of the most famous beaches around California so there's tons of people. Everyone is doing something from swimming in the cold dark blue ocean, to getting a tan, or even playing spikeball everyone is enjoying their day at the extremely hot beach. When wanting to jump into the water you have to run across the hot gold metallic sand. Right before you jump into the chilly water your parents make you apply

Personal Narrative: It's Myrtle Beach

Waves are crashing, and surfers are out. Huge water giants in the distance, and they are making a strong force of ripples in the direction of the shore. Me and my family have arrived. "It's Myrtle Beach!" I said. We browse the streets for our reserved hotel. We have arrived. The Sea Breeze Hotel, a cute little hotel, too. Everyone sits in the KIA, as my father heads in to check in with the front desk. He leaves the vehicle, and enters. A large amount of time passed, especially for check-ins. Ten minutes? My dad then exits the building, as I get ready to leap out the car, stretch my back, and get luggage. But then we all notice his concerned, yet serious, look. He enters the black SUV. My mother tells us all that they misheard him on the phone, and reserved a room with two beds, instead of four or five. We browsed the city streets, past dark, looking for vacant hotels. Spotted! We find a rather expensive hotel, but at least we have a roof over our head for tonight. We check-in, and get a perfect room. We pack-up, and take our space. We all slept well, with the ocean waves crashing on shore, and the gentle sea breeze through the balcony.

Puerto Valolarta Descriptive Writing

It took my breath away. We were on a cliff edge made of sharp, black lava rock. The hotel lobby looked out onto the ocean. I cherished this moment. The waves were calming and water looked as if it was dancing beneath the sunlight. It was a rich, blue in some spots and in others a bright, aquamarine, light green. Streaks of purple and turquoise speckled on the surface on the water. I hadn’t seen anything like it before. The shimmering, creamy, white sand gleamed in the sun’s heat. As the blue waves crashed against the black lava rock, the water sprang into the air shooting a light mist in the sky. The Grand Bliss truly is a beautiful destination. Waiting for our hotel room to be ready my family and I walked down to the beach to a little seating place called Mandy’s. I loved the feeling of the warm sand squishing under my feet it made my calf muscles clench to keep myself balanced. I stopped walking just before the tide touched my toes. I craved the water touching my skin so, at that exact moment so I tore off my tank top that I was wearing on top of my bathing suit and just stood there taking it all in, the sun on my bare tanned shoulders, the warm, comfortable sand beneath my feet, and the insane need to jump into the salty

I sat up and stared at the horizon, cherishing the never-ending deep blue water touching the enormous orange ball in the far west.  As the sun was setting, I notice the tiny shadows of the seashells forming and the fast growing waves overcome each seashell with strong force.  When I looked up at the sky, I admired the transformation a fluffy clouds turning into light feather outlines and I watched the screaming seagulls fly across the ocean, in front of the gleaming sun.  The roaring of the waves smashing on the shore was like a warning that if we wanted to stay dry, we had to move away from the shore We did not leave the site of the beach until the purple, orange and yellow sunset hit the horizon.  I felt the warmth of the sun against my skin like a baby blanket straight out of the

When I first stepped out of the hot, stuffy plane into the bright and brilliant sunlight beaming down on my face, all I felt was excitement. With my bag in one hand and sunglasses in the other I couldn’t believe it I finally arrived at Florida! The Florida sun struck like an arrow on my skin, warming and basking my arms in its radiance. I took a deep breath and smelt a sweet flowery perfume. After pushing my way through all the tourists I finally reached my luggage. After pulling my purple bag of the conveyer belt, I made my way to the doors where my family and I were met by my aunt, uncle, and cousins to pick us up and take us back to their house.

We left the condo so early in the morning it was pitch black outside, then we made our way to the port. During the drive the wind was howling like a pack of wolves all around us and my nervousness started to kick in. I already had hesitations, but now the weather gave me an even worse feeling. Upon our arrival we gathered our gear and climbed aboard the 30’ fishing boat along with several other people. Once everyone was on we began the trip out to the ocean.

Personal Narrative: Port Aransas Beach

On one of the hottest days of July, we stuffed both of my parents’ cars as much as we possibly could with sleeping bags, a tent, a portable grill and food that was fun to eat near the campfire. My dad and little brother took one car, and my mother and I followed behind in the other, blaring music like best friends do. I always bring Hershey, my chocolate Labrador along with me, and it’s a sight to see her silly, drooling face flapping in the wind from the open car window behind me. Now if you’re driving along the coast, any drive is a scenic drive no matter where you’re going. The sky is always a lively shade of blue, clear of clouds in all directions. The air is unforgivingly hot, but you can always count on the wind being there when you live this close to the ocean. The drive to the ferry is a good fifteen minutes on a good day, and on average it can take another twenty minutes in line to wait for your turn to load your car on to the ferry. Yes, the only way to get to this beach is by crossing the bay to get on the narrow strip of land that we like to call the island. When it’s finally our

Descriptive Essay On Vacation

My parents and I happily trudged out of our chilled condo room, weighed down by various beach supplies. We made our way to the elevator, slowly but surely exiting the maze we call our condo hallways. As we glided down, floor after floor, we finally reached the parking garage. We stepped out of the elevator feeling a mix of humidity and heat immediately cling to our tan bodies. We exited the garage to find a beautiful scene. Birds were flying overhead as there were sun rays beating down against white, hot sand. We crossed the bridge that held shoes and scattered shells. After we did so, we pressed our feet against the white sand that belonged to Destin, Florida. The sight was even more alluring than I had ever imagined.

My First Day At The Beach Essay

‘’ Wake up, wake up you lazy kids’’ my mum said, ‘’we are going to the beach”. My sister, my two brothers, and I woke with extreme energy, happy because it was the first time we visit the beach that summer. The day dawned bright, the sky was painted in bright blue; the beautiful sun was gleaming and shining gloriously. It was idyllic for a picnic by the sea. We quickly packed our stuff, we took some snacks and swimming outfits, and of course chair decks; we took a fast breakfast, and then we headed to the beach. I was very excited because it was my first summer without the safety armbands. However, I knew that it was going to be a bit of scary and risky but not as much what happened with me, it was like the first day at school.

Descriptive Essay On The Beach

I walked along the beach. As I was walking I could feel the fresh smell of the beach like it was an air freshener but it also smelled that gave me a tingle in my nose. As I kept walking along the beach I could feel the light breeze coming against me. This fresh air felt warm as I felt like I was sleeping in a comfortable bed. I kept walking in the beach, as I did it felt like an escape to all my problems and also my stress. Beach felt like a solution to all my problems and could be open with anything.

The Beach Essay

The place where I feel most comfortable is a place where I am calm. A place that is peaceful in its own ways. It is the place to go to get away from all my troubles. It is the one place where I could sit forever, and never get tired of just staring into the deepest blue I have ever seen. It is the place where I can sit and think the best. A place where nothing matters but what is in that little moment. The one place capable of sending my senses into an overload. This place is the ocean.

Descriptive Essay : A Trip To The Beach

The warm breeze of the ocean air flies past my face. The heat of the yellow sun was sizzling, beating down against my skin, tanning and burning it within seconds. Beach goers were crowded around in all directions. Seagulls gliding past the groups of people, scouting for dropped or forgotten food to eat. Their little footprints marking a trail in the sand all over the place, going in a million different directions, searching for their next meal. I take in the exquisiteness of it all, the blue-green waves crashing into the sandy shore, making white foam and bubbles wash into the sea, little boys and girls that are digging in the bright white sand running away from the small waves before they get wet. The beach is a stunning place to be; there's just something about the ocean waves and the sand between my toes that makes me just want to stay there forever.

English Summary

A Day at the Beach Essay

A beach is an area of sand or small stones around the sea. I spent a day at Marina Beach in Chennai when I went there with my family on vacations. It was one of the best days of my life. I always wanted to visit the beach because it is a lot of fun.

Before we reached the beach, we bought caps and swimming dresses at the shops. When we reached the beach, I was so excited because everyone was enjoying the sea. Other children were playing with sand.

The beach was surrounded by dense trees and it was very clean. My mother sat on the sand under a tree and took out a book to read. My sister and I went to play with the water in the sea. We splashed water on each other and enjoyed the sea waves when they made us go up and down. After some time, we came back. Then I and my sister made a sandcastle. I also collected shells on the beach and we decorated the castle with them.

We bought fruits on the beach and also drank coconut water after that. When it was evening, we saw the setting sun. It looked like the sun was going inside the sea. We took a lot of pictures of this scene.

The beach became more splendid when the sky turned red. After six o’clock, we went to the changing room and took bath and changed our clothes because the guards did not allow us to be on the beach after sunset. We came back to our hotel and we all talked about our day. We all were so happy because the day was well spent.

How to Describe a Beach in Writing (21 Best Tips & Examples)

The gentle ebb and flow of waves, the warmth of golden sands, and the melodies of seagulls overhead – beaches captivate the senses.

I’ve described beaches many times in my own short stories and novels.

Here’s how to describe a beach in writing :

Describe a beach in writing by focusing on its unique size, climate, sand color, and location. Explore sensory details such as the sound of waves, the scent of saltwater, and the feel of the sand. Highlight cultural elements, marine life, vegetation, seasonal shifts, and local activities.

In this guide, you’ll learn everything you need to know to describe a beach in writing.

1. Unearth the Sands of Time

How to Describe a Beach in Writing

Table of Contents

Every beach tells a story.

Some are age-old resting spots for local fishermen, while others have seen shipwrecks, invasions, or have been silent witnesses to lovers’ tales.

Before diving into descriptions, research the history of the beach you’re writing about.

This will not only add depth to your narrative but also connect readers to a bygone era.

Plus, if you love beaches as much as I do, then this will be pure heaven for you.

While some beaches have preserved their old-world charm with untouched landscapes, others boast modern-day beach shacks, surfing schools, or yoga retreats.

Distinguishing between the ancient sands and modernized coasts can set the mood for your description.

2. Palette of the Sands

Not all beaches are golden.

Some have white, powdery sands, while others flaunt a rare black, pink, or even green hue.

The color of the sand can significantly influence the ambiance of the beach.

Dive into the specifics – is the sand fine or coarse? Is it cool to the touch or sun-baked and warm?

Often, the sand isn’t just sand. It’s interspersed with shells, pebbles, seaweed, and sometimes even fragments of corals. Highlight these unique elements as they add character to the beach and provide sensory details for readers.

3. Dance of the Tides

Some beaches are known for their calm, lapping waves, making them ideal for relaxation.

In contrast, others are marked by powerful, crashing waves perfect for adventurous activities like surfing.

Describe the rhythm, sound, and sight of the waves to convey the beach’s spirit.

Understanding the tidal patterns can greatly enhance your description.

Low tides might expose hidden tidal pools, while high tides might bring with them a sense of mystery and anticipation.

This also affects the beach’s width and appearance at different times.

4. Symphony of the Shore

The beach isn’t silent.

From the cries of the seagulls to the whispers of the winds and the rhythmic sound of waves, nature creates a symphony.

Use auditory descriptions to transport readers to the shore.

On popular beaches, the sound of children’s laughter, chatter from nearby cafes, or tunes from a distant radio can add layers to the auditory experience.

Decide whether your beach is serene and untouched or bustling with activity.

5. Coastal Climate Chronicles

Is the beach sun-drenched, making it ideal for sunbathing? Or is it frequently cloaked in mist, giving it a mysterious aura?

The weather plays a crucial role in setting the scene and can influence activities, moods, and narratives.

Beaches transform with seasons.

While summer brings in crowds and vibrant energy, winter might render the beach desolate, with only the bravest souls venturing out.

Describe these shifts to add depth to your narrative.

6. Sunlit Spectacles

The magic of a beach often unfolds during the golden hours.

Narrate the transformation of the horizon as the sun rises, casting a delicate pink and gold hue, or as it sets, engulfing the world in fiery reds and deep purples.

The changing colors reflect not only in the sky but also in the water and sand.

While sunrise and sunset are dramatic, the midday sun brings out the vibrancy of beach activities, and nighttime might unveil a sky full of stars or even bioluminescent waves on certain beaches.

7. Flora’s Flourish

Many beaches are lined with specific vegetation, from towering palm trees to delicate dune flowers.

Describe the flora’s color, shape, and how it dances in the breeze, adding life to the coastal landscape.

Floral aromas mixed with the salty sea air can create a heady combination.

Bring out the varied fragrances one might encounter while taking a leisurely stroll.

8. Fauna Features

Tidal pools might house starfish, crabs, or tiny fishes.

Coral beaches might be teeming with colorful marine life. Delve into the beauty of the creatures that call the beach their home.

From seagulls to pelicans and sandpipers, the avian world adds movement and sound to the beach.

Their behaviors, from hunting for fish to playful chases, can be delightful to describe.

9. Activity Avenues

Be it children building sandcastles, surfers riding waves, or yoga enthusiasts greeting the sun, beaches often become hubs of activities.

Depicting these can give readers a sense of the beach’s energy.

Not all beachgoers seek company.

Some look for solitude – a quiet corner to read, meditate, or just gaze at the horizon.

Highlighting these moments adds depth and contrast.

10. Textures and Touch

Beyond visuals, the feel of the beach is vital.

Is the sand powdery soft, or is it grainy and rough? Does the water feel icy cold or pleasantly warm?

Engaging the sense of touch can make descriptions palpable.

How does the beach make one feel? Tranquil, exhilarated, nostalgic?

Tapping into emotions can resonate deeply with readers.

11. Tastes of the Tides

A trip to the beach is incomplete without the taste of salt on your lips from the sea spray.

For many beaches, nearby stalls serve fresh seafood.

Describing the tantalizing flavors of the ocean’s bounty can make readers’ mouths water.

Beach destinations often have signature beverages – from coconut water to adult drinks.

Highlighting these drinks can set the tone and mood of the beach scene.

12. Auditory Adventures

Every beach has its unique sound of waves – from gentle lapping to roaring surfs.

These sounds are soothing and rhythmic, making them integral to a beach description.

Include the distant laughter of beachgoers, the chirping of coastal birds, or the playful shout of children.

Such sounds breathe life into the scene.

13. Historical Hints

Many beaches have rich histories, from pirate tales to ancient civilizations.

Weaving in some historical elements can give depth to the beach’s narrative.

Statues, forts, or old lighthouses can stand as silent witnesses to the past. Mentioning these can make a beach scene more vivid and layered.

14. Moods of the Sea

The mood of the sea changes with weather and tides.

While a calm sea can be serene and inviting, a stormy sea can be wild and dramatic. Depicting these moods can influence the story’s atmosphere.

Low tide might reveal hidden treasures like shells or ancient shipwrecks, while high tide brings in waves and fresh mysteries.

The ebb and flow of tides can be metaphorical and descriptive.

15. Colorful Canvases

Describing the varying shades of blues, greens, and golds of the sea, sky, and sand can paint a vivid picture.

Sunlight plays a role in these changing hues, so consider the time of day.

Beaches at night transform into a world of silvery moonlight, shadows, and possibly bioluminescent creatures.

Using a palette of darker shades can set a contrasting and mystical scene.

16. Human Imprints

From lone footprints in the sand to majestic sandcastles, human touch is evident on many beaches.

Describing these imprints can suggest recent activity or age-old legacies.

Sadly, not all human imprints are poetic (or positive).

Describing signs of pollution, like plastic waste, can serve as a stark reminder and add an environmental angle to your narrative.

17. Unique Underwater Worlds

Many beaches are gateways to underwater paradises.

Vividly describing the diverse, colorful corals can transport readers into a magical realm.

Each coral formation has its own charm, from brain corals’ intricate patterns to the elegant sway of sea fans.

Beaches often harbor rich marine ecosystems.

Describing encounters with playful dolphins, curious turtles, or schools of shimmering fish can add depth and wonder to your narrative.

18. Local Life and Culture

Many coastal communities have age-old traditions linked to the sea.

Highlighting local festivals, rituals, or even daily activities like fish markets can provide readers with a cultural immersion.

Local handicrafts or special beachside dishes can offer a sensory feast.

Be it a description of intricate seashell jewelry or the tantalizing aroma of grilled seafood, integrating local flavors can enrich your beach description.

19. Dynamic Dunes and Vegetation

Sand dunes, shaped by the wind, can change forms and create mesmerizing patterns.

Describing these dynamic landscapes can add an element of nature’s artistry to your narrative.

Coastal vegetation, from tall palm trees to dense mangroves, not only adds to the beach’s visual appeal but also plays a crucial role in maintaining coastal ecology.

Diving into descriptions of these can add both beauty and educational value.

20. Seasonal Shifts

While summer might bring in sunbathers, winter could wrap the beach in misty allure. Capturing these seasonal nuances can create varied and engaging settings.

Monsoon or hurricane seasons can drastically change beach atmospheres.

Describing the sheer power of nature during such times can infuse drama and tension into your story.

21. Adventure and Activities

From surfing monstrous waves to peaceful kayaking sessions, beaches offer numerous adventure opportunities.

Describing the thrill and challenges of these activities can inject action into your beach scenes.

Leisurely activities like beachcombing can be therapeutic and rewarding.

Detailed descriptions of discovering seashells, driftwood, or even messages in bottles can add mystery and intrigue.

3 Examples of How to Describe a Beach

Let’s look at three imaginative depictions of beaches, each resonating with the unique essence of its respective genre.

  • Romance : The serene beach under the moon’s embrace seemed to whisper tales of ageless romances. The moonlight cast a silvery glow on the quiet beach, where waves serenaded the shores. The sands, cool beneath their feet, became their dance floor. Their hearts resonated with the rhythm of the waves, as they lost themselves in each other’s embrace, amidst the vastness of the ocean.
  • Mystery/Thriller : A heavy atmosphere weighed down on the beach, with secrets buried as deep as its oceanic abyss. The beach was eerily silent, save for the relentless pounding of the waves. A thick fog hung low, concealing much of the shore. As Detective Adams approached, the beam from his flashlight revealed a set of footprints, leading into the mysterious abyss of the night.
  • Fantasy : To the common eye, it’s a beach. But for those with the sight, The Golden Sands of Elaria were gateways to otherworldly adventures. As dawn broke, the sands sparkled with magic. Mermaids emerged from the turquoise depths, dragons soared above the azure skies, and ancient runes appeared, guiding brave adventurers to hidden realms beneath.

Narrative Essay On Vacation To The Beach

Show More “Hey, are you ready?” said my mother. She had been hounding me like a drill sergeant all morning. We usually headed to Kennebunkport, Maine for a weekend every summer, but this year was different. I was invited to go on vacation to the lake with friends, and my mother said yes. I was grateful for the opportunity. “Are you sure you’ll be ok?” asked Mom, as she looked up the stairway. “Yes, Mom”, I replied, “I’ll be fine…. I’ll be down in a minute.” As I packed the last of my clothes, my mind wandered to the last time I visited the lake. Upon returning to camp, being carefree and 12 years old, we went outside to build the campfire and soon forgot about her odd behavior. A house in the desert with a mannequin on water skis and a small boat in the yard behind a fence in Bombay Beach, Calif.

An Idyll on the Shores of a Toxic Lake

Supported by

Text by Jaime Lowe

Ms. Lowe is the author of, most recently, “Breathing Fire: Female Inmate Firefighters on the Front Lines of California’s Wildfires.” Mr. Albrecht is a photographer based in Oakland, Calif.

  • March 29, 2024

There are two ways to experience the town of Bombay Beach, Calif., as a visitor: gawk at the spectacle or fall into the vortex. Thousands of tourists cruise through each year, often without getting out of their cars to see decaying art installations left over from an annual mid-March gathering of artists, photographers and documentarians known jokingly as the Bombay Beach Biennale. When I went to the town for the first time in 2021, I was looking for salvation in this weird desert town on the Salton Sea south of Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park. I dropped in, felt vibes and left with stories. I stared at the eccentric large-scale art, posted photos on Instagram of ruin porn and a hot pink sign on the beach that said, “If you’re stuck, call Kim.” I posed in front of a mountain of painted televisions, swung on a swing over the edge of the lake’s retreating shoreline and explored the half-buried, rusted-out cars that make up an abandoned ersatz drive-in movie theater. On that trip, it felt as if I were inside a “Mad Max” simulation, but I was only scratching the surface of the town.

I returned in December to try to understand why Bombay Beach remains so compelling, especially as extreme weather — heat, hurricanes and drought — and pollution wreak ever more intense havoc on it. Summer temperatures can reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit, tremors from the San Andreas Fault strike regularly, bomb testing from nearby military facilities can be heard and felt, and the air is so toxic from pesticide use, exhaust fumes, factory emissions and dust rising from the retreating Salton Sea that one study showed asthma rates among children in the region are three times the national average. By the end of the decade, the Salton Sea, California’s largest inland body of water, at about 325 square miles, may lose three-quarters of its volume; in the past 20 years, the sea’s surface area has shrunk about 38 square miles .

But people who live in Bombay Beach stay because the town offers a tight-knit community in the midst of catastrophe. Though its residents contend with environmental adversity on a daily basis, they’re also demonstrating how to navigate the uncertain future we all face — neglect, the fight for scarce resources, destruction of home, the feeling of having no place to go. They are an example of how people can survive wild climate frontiers together.

The 250 or so town residents live in the low desert on the east shore of the Salton Sea, which formed in 1905 when the then-flush Colorado River spilled into a depression, creating a freshwater lake that became increasingly saline. There used to be fish — mullet and carp, then tilapia. In the 1950s and ’60s, the area was marketed as a tourist destination and was advertised as Palm Springs by the Sea. More tourists visited Bombay Beach than Yosemite. There were yacht clubs, boat races and water skiing. It became a celebrity magnet: Frank Sinatra hung out there; so did the Beach Boys and Sonny and Cher.

Eventually, as agricultural runoff kept accumulating in a body of water with no drainage, it became toxic and created a lake with salinity that is now 50 percent greater than that of the ocean. In the 1980s, dead fish washed up on the sand, car ruins rusted in the sun, tires rotted on the shore. Tourism vanished. But some in the community hung on. One way to define Bombay Beach is through environmental disaster, but another way is as an example of how to live through disaster and how to live in general.

A man places his hands on a shoulder of another man on a bench as a woman looks on near the Salton Sea.

Candace Youngberg, a town council member and a bartender at the Ski Inn, remembers a very different Bombay Beach. When she was growing up in the 1980s, she’d ride bikes with neighborhood children and run from yard to yard in a pack because there were no fences. But over time, the town changed. With each passing year, she watched necessities disappear. Now there’s no gas station, no laundromat, no hardware store. Fresh produce is hard to come by. A trailer that was devoted to medical care shut down. In 2021, 60.9 percent of Bombay Beach residents lived below the poverty line, compared with the national average of 12.6 percent.

As painful as it was to witness the town of her youth disappear and as deep as the problems there go, Ms. Youngberg admits that adversity bonded those who stayed. She wanted to return Bombay Beach to the version of the town she remembered, to recreate a beautiful place to live year-round, not just in winter, not just during the art season, not just for the tourists posing in front of wreckage. She wanted people to see the homes, the town, the community that once thrived thrive again. With the art came attention and the potential for more resources. She got on the Bombay Beach Community Services District, a town council, and started to work toward improvements like fixing the roads and planting trees to improve air quality.

It might just be that Bombay Beach is a small town, but when I visited last winter, there was something that felt more collaborative, as though everybody’s lives and business and projects overlapped. I’m not sure the community that’s there now started out as intentional, but when fragmented groups of people come together as custodians of an enigmatic space, responsible for protecting it and one another, community is inevitable. Plus, there’s only one place to socialize, one place to gossip, one place to dance out anxiety and only about two-thirds of a square mile to wander. Whether you like it or not, your neighbors are your people — a town in its purest form.

When I was there, I walked the streets with Denia Nealy, an artist who goes by Czar, and my friend Brenda Ann Kenneally, a photographer and writer, who would shout names, and people would instantly emerge. A stranger offered a handful of Tater Tots to Czar and me in a gesture that felt emblematic: Of course a complete stranger on an electric unicycle would cruise by and share nourishment. I was given a butterfly on a stick, which I carried around like a magic wand because that seemed appropriate and necessary. I was told that if I saw a screaming woman walking down the street with a shiv in her hand, not to worry and not to make eye contact and she’d leave me alone; it was just Stabby. There was talk of the Alcoholics Anonymous meeting on the beach, the weekly church sermon led by Jack the preacher (who is also a plumber), a potluck lasagna gathering.

Last year Ms. Kenneally created a trash fashion show/photo series for the Biennale in which she created couture designs out of trash collected from the beach, enlisted regulars in town to model the outfits, then photographed them. (She exhibited a similar series at this year’s festival as well.) The work was a way to showcase the people and the place. Jonathan Hart, a fireworks specialist who slept on the beach, posed like a gladiator; a woman who normally rode through town with a stuffed Kermit the Frog toy strapped to her bike was wrapped in a clear tarp and crown, looking like royalty emerging from the Salton Sea. The environment was harsh, the poses striking. Each frame straddled the line between glamour and destruction but also showcased a community’s pride in survival. Residents were undaunted by the armor of refuse; in fact, it made them stronger. The detritus, what outsiders might think of as garbage, became gorgeous. The landscape that is often described as apocalyptic became ethereal and magical. And that’s because it is.

On my second day, we went down to the docks at noon, and I found myself sitting on a floral mustard couch watching half a dozen or so people taking turns riding Jet Skis into the sun. The sun was hot, even though it was the cool season. Time felt elastic. Mr. Hart told me that he and some friends had fixed up the water scooters to give everyone in town the chance to blow off some steam, to smile a little. It had been a rough couple of months in the region. In preparation for Hurricane Hilary, which hit Mexico and the southwestern United States last August, 26 volunteers made 200 sandbags and delivered them door to door. Neighbors helped secure as many structures as possible.

Most media outlets reported that the hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm because that’s the weather system that hit Los Angeles, but it was close to a hurricane in Bombay Beach, with winds hitting 60 miles per hour, and most properties were surrounded by water. Roofs collapsed or blew away entirely. “When faced with something like that, they were like, ‘Boom, we’re on it,’” Ms. Youngberg told me. They were together in disaster and in celebrating survival.

It reminded me of the writer Rebecca Solnit’s book “A Paradise Built in Hell,” which considers the upside to catastrophe. She finds that people rise to the occasion and oftentimes do it with joy because disaster and survival leave a wake of purposefulness, consequential work and community. Disasters require radical acts of imagination and interaction. It seemed that because Bombay Beach lived hard, surviving climate catastrophes like extreme weather on top of everyday extremes, it celebrated even harder. It seemed that in Bombay Beach there’s enough to celebrate if you just get through the day, gaze at the night sky and do it all again in the morning.

A lot of the residents who live there now arrived with trauma. Living there is its own trauma. But somehow the combination creates a place of care and physical and emotional presence. People experience life intensely, as one. It’s a town that is isolated, but in spite of a loneliness epidemic, it doesn’t seem so lonely to be there. I felt unexpected joy in what, from everything I’d read from afar, was a place that might as well have been sinking into the earth. I felt so safe and so happy that if we had sunk into the earth together, it wouldn’t have felt like such a bad way to go.

On my last night in Bombay Beach, I went to the Ski Inn, a bar that serves as the center of all social activity. I’d been in town for only two days, and yet it felt as if I’d been to the Ski Inn a million times, as if I already knew everyone and they knew me. A band was playing, we danced and drank, and I forgot about the 8 p.m. kitchen cutoff. The chef apologized, but he’d been working since 11:45 a.m. and had already cleaned the grill and fryer. He’d saved one mac and cheese for the bartender, and when she heard I hadn’t eaten, she offered to split it with me, not wanting me to go hungry or leave without having tried the mac and cheese.

Bombay Beach is a weird place. And this was an especially weird feeling. I had been instantly welcomed into the fold of community and cared for, even though I was a stranger in a very strange land.

I realized I didn’t want to leave. There were lessons there — how to live with joy and purpose in the face of certain catastrophe, how to exist in the present without the ever presence of doom. Next time, I thought, I’d stay longer, maybe forever, and actually ride a Jet Ski.

A refreshingly new era in delray beach | steve bousquet.

Outgoing Delray Beach Mayor Shelly Petrolia hands the gavel to Mayor Tom Carney.

Three became the magic number in Delray Beach, where a new majority is in control at City Hall.

The transition follows a groundbreaking city election in which voters wisely looked beyond mudslinging, lies and exaggerations and chose three new leaders with a mix of experience and new blood.

All three are like-minded on accountability, fiscal responsibility and stronger growth controls, and they resonated with voters. The trio of “Tom Tom Juli” won convincingly.

Mayor Tom Carney and commissioners Tom Markert and Juli Casale took their oaths of office Thursday at City Hall. An overflow crowd filled the small commission chambers and residents witnessing the changing of the guard burst into applause at the first roll call of the new-look commission.

Steve Bousquet, Sun Sentinel columnist

For years, this gem of a city of 67,000 has been split in two factions, one controlled by the pro-growth status quo and the other a populist-tinged, anti-establishment voice for limited growth and protecting neighborhood character from concrete, traffic and noise.

The latter prevailed in this election. Yet a myth persists that the winners rode into office on a wave of Republicans who showed up mostly to support Donald Trump as their presidential nominee in this Democratic-leaning city.

Reggie Cox of The Set Neighborhood Alliance was there with about 20 supporters, and wished the new leaders well, even though his candidate for mayor, Ryan Boylston, lost.

Explaining Boylston’s 38% showing, Cox said: “A red wave.”

Those Republican votes made a difference, but it’s only a part of the story. (Only Carney is a Republican. Casale is a Democrat and Markert is an independent.)

Old grudges were tossed aside and leaders embraced the idea of working for the common good.

There were kind words all around, a graciousness that is gone from so much of today’s politics.

“Campaigning isn’t governing,” Commissioner Rob Long said. “We are one community.”

There were farewells for departing commissioners Boylston, the term-limited Adam Frankel and Mayor Shelly Petrolia, who got a plaque the size of a big-screen TV and a standing ovation from the crowd.

Speaking directly to residents, she told them to speak up and hold new leaders accountable if they do not keep their promises.

“If they don’t hear from you, they can erroneously assume they’re doing a great job,” Petrolia said.

As the new board organized, some political intrigue swirled in the background. Carney wanted Long, the current deputy vice mayor, to move up to vice mayor, a traditional step for a ceremonial position, he said.

Carney meant it as a unity gesture. But with Long part of the defeated Boylston faction, Carney’s own supporters revolted against him, so he quickly dropped the idea. Casale was chosen vice mayor instead.

“There was some opposition to that,” Carney told me. “I’m looking for a commission that would try to work together. I’m not trying to settle any scores.”

The celebration continued at a reception at the Aloft hotel downtown.

“It marks a turning point for Delray,” said Phil Pepe, a 22-year resident who had a long career in politics and business in New York state before he settled in South Florida. “I’m still pinching myself.”

Carney, who served as a commissioner more than a decade ago, wants a “Vision 2030” initiative to set long-range goals.

“We have a city that needs to engage with itself,” he said.

Casale moved quickly to remove a Downtown Development Authority member who falsified his application, and Markert agreed. Fudging certified city forms is “not happening on my watch,” he said. Carney, a lawyer, reminded them that the applicant has the right of due process, including a city hearing.

A fiscal watchdog, Casale is eager to dig into city spending, including its unfunded pension liability — a subject that’s dense but critical to the city’s fiscal health.

On the campaign trail, Casale said voters told her they would vote for her and asked how they should vote in the other races. She began handing out Carney’s and Market’s campaign literature, emphasizing the need for a new majority.

“It takes three votes to make the city amazing, and it takes three votes to ruin the city,” Casale said.

There is internal unrest at the top of the fire department, and questions persist about a water billing fiasco that resulted in a few hundred residents getting wildly inflated bills. The city is in need of an in-house traffic engineering expert and development pressures are unyielding.

The trio of Carney, Markert and Casale made bold, specific promises to safeguard the quality of life that brought so many people to the “Village by the Sea.”

Now, it’s time for them to deliver.

Paul McCartney swimming in St. Barts

Here comes the Caribbean sun.

Paul McCartney and his wife, Nancy Shevell, went for a dip in the Caribbean Sea during a vacation in St. Barts Wednesday.

The pair looked relaxed as they soaked up the sun and swam in the turquoise waters.

For the beach day, the Beatles musician rocked a black rashguard with multi-colored swim trunks that appeared to display a sunset design.

On the other hand, Shevell wore a pink, orange and white rashguard paired with a black swim skirt.

“They seemed as loved up as ever during their trip. Paul looked super fit and youthful for his age as he made sure to enjoy regular swims and he only had eyes for Nancy as they floated around in the waves together,” a source told the MEGA photo agency of their trip, per People .

Amid their outing, McCartney was photographed swimming with a pal and talking to him while draped in an orange towel.

St. Barts seems to be a favorite vacation spot for the couple as they were photographed relaxing on its shoreline in March 2021 and March 2023.

McCartney, 81, and Shevell, 64, began dating in 2007 and married four years later.

Although they normally keep their romance under wraps, the singer opened up about how he contributes to their marriage in a February 2023 post on his website .

“I see [my role as a husband] as just trying to be good to my wife Nancy and trying to be considerate and romantic,” he explained.

“I completely overdo Valentine’s Day! mean, there’s not just one card, there are cards hidden around the room, and sometimes things even spill into the next day – it’s completely silly. If there’s an excuse to have some fun, I overdo it!”

“I try to be helpful as a husband too,” he continued. “If there’s a problem, I like to be the guy that will lend some strength to it.

“I’m always very happy to be the person Nancy relies on, and to be her strength when she goes through tough times.”

Paul was first married to the late Linda McCartney from 1969 to 1998, and to Heather Mills from 2002 until 2008 (they had separated two years prior their divorce).
