Globe’s GPlans: What you need to know

Globe has recently added the all-new GPlans powered by GCash to its GPlan offers. Dubbed as Globe’s most flexible subscription plans yet, GPlans are packed with various essentials such as data, free GoWiFi access, unlimited all-net calls and texts, free KonsultaMD subscription for health essentials as well as GCash credits. What else do you need to know about GPlans? Let’s dig deeper!

Globe ’s GPlans are the telco’s latest postpaid plan offerings. GPlans are available to customers who want to apply for postpaid subscriptions as well as existing postpaid customers who are up for plan renewal.

The telco revealed that the old plans, including ThePLAN, ThePLAN PLUS, and TheBASIC PLAN 499, are no longer available. However, the new GPlan is available for as low as PHP 599 up to PHP 7,999 per month. GPlan now offers the following variants:

• GPlan with Device – for those who want to choose from a range of mobile phones, tablets, and wearables. They either come for free or with a one-time cash-out or charged to their monthly bill.

• GPlan SIM-Only – for those who want to get double data allowance, unlimited calls and texts, but still use their existing devices.

• GPlan SIM-Only All-Data – gives subscribers data allocation of up to 80GB per month.

• GPlan with GCash – a limited-time promo offer that allows users to choose from various offers such as premium content subscriptions, vouchers from Globe’s partners, or product boosters. GPlan with GCash is available from March 26 to June 30, 2021, only.

Meanwhile, GPlans are also available as Platinum GPlans 3799, 4999, and 7999 for Platinum customers.

GCash credits

As per Globe, the GCash credits that come with GPlan (with GCash) can be spent through the following:

• Avail of premium subscriptions in HBOGo, YouTube Premium, YouTube Music, Discovery+, NBA, and more. • Buy gaming consoles from Globe’s partners or subscribe to gaming promo offers. • Get add-ons to boost mobile data (GoBOOST, GoSURF, SURF4ALL), pay for Globe At Home bill, avail of WiFi Mesh, etc. • Buy essentials and leisure items in Lazada, Shopee, Grab, Metromart, FoodPanda, and more. • Avail of GInsure for COVID-19 and dengue medical coverage. • Purchase a new gadget such as iPad 8th Gen, Mi Notebook, or Huawei Matebook. • Payment for rides via Grab, Lalamove, etc.

The GCash credit will be sent in 24-48 hours upon plan activation or effectivity of the new contract in case of plan renewal. GPlan subscribers will receive a text from GCash notifying the GCash credit received from the new postpaid plan.

However, in case subscribers failed to receive the GCash credit that comes with the postpaid plan, they may file a concern in GlobeOne Help & Support, and a GCash representative will address the issue within 3-5 business days.

Inclusions and contract period

All GPlans come with a free 3GB of GoWiFi, a free subscription to KonsultaMD, and a limited-time free 3-month GInsure. The free three months of GInsure offers PHP 140,500 worth of insurance coverage against COVID-19, dengue, made possible through GCash and Singlife Philippines.

Do note that the unlimited calls to all networks under GPlan 599 is part of GPlan’s introductory promo, valid only until June 30, 2021.

GPlan with Device has 12, 24, and 36-month contracts, depending on the device customers choose. On the other hand, GPlan with GCash has a contract of 24 months, whereas GPlan SIM-Only and SIM-Only All Data both have a contract of 6 months.

Interested customers may avail of GPlan through the following channels nationwide:

• Globe Stores • Globe Online Shop 33 • Plan renewal 14 via Globe Stores, Globe Online Shop , GlobeOne app

To apply through the Globe Online Shop, follow the steps below.

1. Select Postpaid Plan (GPlan with Device, GPlan with Device, GPlan SIM-Only, or GPlan SIM-Only All-Data) 2. Prepare application documents: Proof of identification, proof of billing address, and proof of financial capacity 3. Fill out the online application form, and attach all the requirements for faster approval. 4. Wait for updates on the application via text or email within seven business days. Those who didn’t receive updates may email at [email protected] .

GPlan’s Data Rollover

With GPlans, the subscribers’ unused data allowance for the current billing month can be extended to the next billing month. Do note that the validity of data rollover is only within the following month. If the data remains unused in the third month, the rolled-over data gets forfeited.

Moreover, data rollover applies only to the plan’s main data allowance. This means that unused data coming from data add-ons do not support the rollover feature.

Subscribers may check their data allowance via the GlobeOne app dashboard or through SMS by sending DATA BAL to 8080.

GPlan Add-Ons

As per Globe, GPlans subscribers can also get an add-on at any time. Add-ons will be automatically charged in addition to the subscribers’ monthly plan for the current bill period. Check out the table below.

Convert data to Rewards points

GPlan subscribers may also maximize their unusual and active (unexpired) data by converting them to points. 1GB of data is equivalent to 10 Globe Rewards points. This applies to the remaining balance from their main data allowance, data rollover, and active data add-ons.

Besides, the validity of converted Globe Rewards points can be checked through the GlobeOne app upon conversion.

Vague discriptions. especially with Gplan with device. it doesn’t state if the plan serves as an installment for the device you chose or if it’s only for the data promo they are offering.

Recently, Huawei launched the Mate XT, the world’s first tri-folding smartphone. As expected of a new form factor, the new smartphone has the potential to break your bank. However, if the exorbitant price is somehow too affordable for you, Caviar has a proposition: a US$ 15,000 version of the unique phone.

As of recently, Huawei has the unique distinction of owning the world’s first tri-folding smartphone. While the rest of the foldable segment has settled on traditional book-like folds and clamshells, the Mate XT adds another screen. Steeped in a revolutionary design, the base model costs around US$ 2,800.

But, of course, there is always a way to make the luxurious even more exclusive. Caviar, the renowned smartphone customizer company, has released two exclusive editions of the tri-folding smartphone.

The first one, Black Dragon, is covered in black crocodile leather. It’s also surrounded by gold accents. The design is inspired by the Xuanlong dragon from Chinese mythology.

Meanwhile, the second one, Gold Dragon, is completely covered in 24-karat gold. Styled with flowing motifs, it looks as luxurious as the gold it’s covered in. The design is inspired by Longquan, the Chinese city associated with multi-layered sword forging.

If you want to grab one of these editions, Caviar is making only 88 units of each design. Like the original models from Huawei, the company will sell the editions in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB configurations.

The Black Dragon version starts at around US$ 12,770. Meanwhile, the Gold Dragon edition starts at around US$ 14,500 and tops out at US$ 15,360.

Meta unveils new orion smart glasses.

More than any other company, Meta is dedicated to turning AR glasses into a thing. Over the years, the company has worked on wearables for your face. Today, Meta is back with a new pair of augmented reality glasses called Orion.

A world apart from Facebook’s glasses built in partnership with Ray-Ban, the new Orion combines the worlds of a lifestyle product and a technological marvel. More specifically, you might not see these glasses out in public just yet, even if Meta already offers them. The company is reserving them for employees and a few users for now.

The reason why is a more dedicated focus on delivering quality hardware on a lithe device. Meta says that the Orion has shrunk a number of components down to a fraction of a millimeter. It might look chunky, but it’s packing a lot of power.

Further, the new glasses will feature Meta AI. The wearable can reportedly analyze the context of whatever is in front of the user. For example, it can suggest recipes depending on the ingredients that it sees in an open fridge.

Based solely on what it promises, it looks like an evolution of what the Apple Vision Pro offers. Though Apple is positioning the Vision Pro as the next big thing after the iPhone, the device still has a bunch of heft.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been delayed to next year

Needs more polish

Assassin’s Creed Shadows marks a significant turning point for the iconic franchise. While the smaller Mirage brought back a focus on stealth, Shadows recalibrates the same reinvention towards the traditionally bigger mainline entries. Originally intended for a fall release, the new pivot requires a bit more time in the oven. Ubisoft is delaying Shadows to next year.

Without a doubt, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the most hotly anticipated entry in the long-running series. After all, fans have been clamoring for feudal Japan as a setting since Assassin’s Creed 2 . Now, players are getting not one but two assassins in the setting, Naoe and Yasuke.

Though everyone is hyped for the setting, the game’s development doesn’t spark as much confidence. When the first gameplay trailer dropped, a few players noticed jankier animations. It didn’t help that Ubisoft also cancelled media previews a few days ago, hinting at potential problems for development.

Now, the issues have risen to the fore. Ubisoft has officially delayed the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows to February 14, 2025. As expected, the delay stems from a need to polish the game’s mechanics even further.

Ubisoft also cites the lukewarm reception of Star Wars Outlaws as a reason for developing the game even further. Despite the hype, the new game failed to meet sales expectations. As a result, the studio is continuing development past its launch date. The company likely wants to avoid the same situation with Shadows .

Additionally, when the game launches on February 14, it will also launch on Steam, making it a rare day one release on the platform for Ubisoft.

There’s a plan if you’re living alone in a small loft, or sharing a large home with family. What’s more, getting your Globe at Home Fiber plan installed is now faster and more convenient.

With that said, here we have compiled all the Globe Fiber plans, their prices, how to apply, where you can settle your payments, and other things you should know. Let’s begin.

Just like most postpaid plans from any telecommunications company, the Globe Fiber plans come with a 24-month or 2-year lock-in period.

Globe’s unlimited fiber plan has 80% average connection speed, 80% service reliability, and 30% minimum speed.

How to apply for Globe Fiber home internet

There are two convenient ways you can apply for a Globe at Home fiber plan: online and offline. We find the online method faster and easier as we were able to conveniently complete the application in the comfort of our home and even when we’re at the office.

On the other hand, doing the offline method means that you have to physically visit your nearest store. While it can be tiresome, assistance from an actual Globe representative can be really helpful.

Step 1: Visit Globe’s GFiber website page: https://new.globe.com.ph/gfiber . Then, click “Check my address”.

Step 2: Key in your province, city, and barangay. This process ensures that Globe GFiber is available in your area before proceeding with the whole process.

Step 3: As a continuation of step 2, you have to complete your address by choosing if it’s a house or condominium, then adding all the other details like house number, street, floor number, etc. You should also input your mobile number.

Afterward, use the red pin to exactly point to your location on the map. Once done, click “Check my address”.

Step 4: If Globe Fiber internet is available in your area, you should land on Globe’s website where it will show plan recommendations. Pick the one you like then click “Proceed with this plan”.

Step 5: Fill up your personal information. Scroll down and click “Upload documents”.

Step 6: Upload a jpeg photo, pdf, or GIF of the front and back of one (1) valid ID and specify the ID type. Tick the Terms and Conditions below and click Submit.

Make sure that the image is clear, so the system can read it easily.

Step 7: Make sure that all the details are correct and submit your application.

Step 1: Secure at least 1 valid ID (see the list of accepted IDs below).

Step 2: Proceed to your nearest Globe store and ask a representative for assistance. You can check the full list of Globe stores through their website.

Globe at Home offers free installation in select areas. You should know during your application process if your area is eligible for the free installation. If not, you shall see how much it will cost.

As an alternative, Globe is offering staggered payments for installation fees, which can be split into 3 months.

If your area is not eligible for the fast installation, it may take 5 to 7 days for those in Luzon and 7 to 10 days for those living in Visayas and Mindanao.

As universities warn of financial challenges, hitting your education savings goal requires aggressive investing and saving

For many parents, savings for their kids’ education is a priority. But after years of saving, most find that they fall short of the amount needed to foot the entire bill. That’s because many parents believe that if they add $2,500 every year to their Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP), they’ll be set. Reality sets in though as university approaches: there simply isn’t enough in the RESP.

There’s sticker shock associated with the cost of university. Using a sample of four Ontario universities, tuition, housing, food and student fees add up to $25,000 or more per year for students to live away from home. That’s $100,000 over four years – more for some programs like engineering and business.

And the costs are rising. Many universities have been struggling financially, especially after the federal government capped the number of international study permits earlier this year, resulting in lower revenue for schools. This suggests that at some point, tuition fees probably have to go up. Rent has also been rising, especially near university campuses, putting even more pressure on students.

Parents who want to save enough to foot the entire bill have to do more than just dump $2,500 a year in to an RESP. They also have to invest that money aggressively and save additional amounts outside of the RESP.

Too often RESPs are invested in an overly conservative way. Many families I work with as a financial coach have their money invested in balanced mutual funds. This simply isn’t good enough. Earning a 5 per cent return annually won’t give them the boost they need to hit the savings goal.

To earn a higher rate of return on your investments you need to invest more heavily in the stock market. Using this RESP calculator , you can see if that you want to fund four years of university education in Ontario with your child living away from home, and if you contribute the $2,500 a year, which is the amount that will give you the maximum available Canada Education Savings Grant each year, you need to earn 9 per cent on your investments every year over 18 years.

This is not realistic. Although the Canadian and U.S. stock markets have returned about 8 per cent to 10 per cent per year over the past couple of decades, it’s not prudent to invest all of the RESP funds in the stock market for the full 18 years. That’s because as your child gets closer to their post-secondary education, you will want to scale back on the risk level, using more bonds and GICs and this will lower your overall returns.

In the early years of the plan when your child is young and still at least 10 years away from needing the money, investing in exchange-traded funds or mutual funds that give you a lot of exposure to stocks is key. With a long investment time horizon – defined as 10 years or more – it’s okay to have 80 per cent or even 100 per cent of the money invested in the stock market. You’ll need to be able to stomach the volatility with this allocation, but taking a long-term view of investing will help.

When your child gets to be around age 12, you’re going to want to scale back on the stocks and add some fixed income, or bonds. When they are two or three years away from going to school, it’s a good idea to move more money into something safe, like GICs. This strategy of investing aggressively early on and more conservatively later means you will have about $90,000 by the time they graduate high school. That’s not quite enough, though, and you’ll be about $45,000 short of your goal, once we factor inflation into the education costs.

To make up for this shortfall, you’ll need to set aside a bit more. If you add $1,400 a year to your savings and use the same investment strategy, you’ll hit the savings goal. Tax Free Savings Accounts – TFSAs – are a great place to put this extra amount. You could also add a little extra to the RESP since you are allowed to put up to $50,000 per child into the plan. Another strategy is to front-end load your savings, giving the funds more time to grow. For example, you could put $15,000 in a TFSA when your baby is a newborn and that will also get you past the goal line.

Saving enough for university can seem daunting but it is achievable with a good strategy.
