সুশিক্ষিত লোক মাত্রই স্বশিক্ষিত। আমাদের পাঠচর্চায় অনভ্যাস যে শিক্ষাব্যবস্থার ত্রুটির জন্য ঘটছে তা সহজেই লক্ষণীয়।

আর্থিক অনটনের কারণে অর্থকরী নয় এমন সবকিছুই এদেশে অনর্থক বলে বিবেচনা করা হয়। সেজন্য বই পড়ার প্রতি লোকের অনীহা দেখা যায়।

শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান থেকে লব্ধ শিক্ষা পূর্ণাঙ্গ নয় বলে ব্যাপকভাবে বই পড়া দরকার। যথার্থ শিক্ষিত হতে হলে মনের প্রসার দরকার। তার জন্য বই পড়ার অভ্যাস বাড়াতে হবে। এর জন্য লাইব্রেরি প্রতিষ্ঠার প্রয়োজন।

ব্যায়াম যেমন আমাদের শরীরকে সুস্থ রাখে তেমনি বই পড়ার মধ্য দিয়ে আমরা আমাদের মনকে সুস্থ ও আনন্দিত রাখতে পারি।

একটি ভালো বই মানুষের মনশ্চক্ষু যেমন খুলে দেয়, তেমনি জ্ঞান ও বুদ্ধি কে প্রসারিত ও বিকশিত করে মনের ভিতর আলো জ্বালাতে সাহায্য করে।

কেননা, সাহিত্যচর্চা হচ্ছে শিক্ষার সর্ব প্রধান অঙ্গ। আর সাহিত্য চর্চা করার জন্যই আমাদের বই পড়তে হবে। একই কারণে লাইব্রেরীর প্রতিষ্ঠা আবশ্যক। বইয়ের ভেতরে থাকে অজানা তথ্যের খাজানা ।

যখন আমরা বই পড়বো তখন বইটির ভিতরে থাকা নানা ধরনের তথ্যের সাথে পরিচিতি লাভ করতে পারব । হোক সেটি ফিকশন কিংবা ননফিকশন , বই-ই পারে একজন মানুষকে যথার্থ জ্ঞানী বানাতে ।

আর জ্ঞান সবসময় একজন মানুষকে সমৃদ্ধ করে । বই নতুনভাবে অভিজ্ঞতা অর্জন করতে ও মস্তিষ্ককে চিন্তা করতে উপযোগী করে গড়ে তোলে ।

কখনো কখনো বই আমাদের একটি ছোট্ট ভ্যাকেশনে নিয়ে যায় । কারন পড়ার মাধ্যমে আমরা পৃথিবীর এক প্রান্ত থেকে অন্য প্রান্তে ছুটে যেতে পারি ।

বই-এই ভিতরে থাকা নতুন জগতের নতুন চিত্র , নতুন বর্ণনা নতুন নতুন ভাবে উপলব্ধি করতে পারি । ফলে আমাদের মনন জগতের কল্পনা শক্তি বৃদ্ধি পেতে শুরু করে ।

বই আমাদের মস্তিষ্কের নতুন নতুন কানেকশন তৈরি করে , ফলে আমাদের নতুন করে জানার আগ্রহ , মনে রাখার ক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি পায় ।

দেশি বিদেশি বিভিন্ন ভাষার বই পড়লে আমাদের ঝুলিতে নতুন নতুন শব্দের সংখ্যা বৃদ্ধি পাবে । লেখক যখন বই লেখেন তিনি অনেক বিষয় নিয়ে গবেষণা করে থাকেন ,

শব্দ নিয়েও তাঁর গবেষণা কম থাকে না। আর আমরা বইপড়ার মাধ্যমে সেই শব্দগুলি সহজেই শিখে নিতে পারি ।

ফলে কথা বলার সময় সেই শব্দগুলি ব্যবহার করে আমরা আমাদের বাচনভঙ্গিকে স্পষ্ট , সুন্দর ও তাৎপর্যমন্ডিত করতে পারি ।

আর যে ব্যক্তি অনেক বই পড়ে থাকেন তিনি খুব সহজেই অন্যের সাথে বিভিন্ন বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা করতে পারেন ।

এতে ব্যক্তিজীবন উন্নত হয় এবং আত্মবিশ্বাসও বেড়ে যায় । নতুন ভাষা শিখতেও বই পড়া আবশ্যক। তাইতো, স্বশিক্ষা অর্জনে বই পড়ার গুরুত্ব অপরিসীম।
