Clip Description

The puma (also known as a mountain lion, cougar or catamount) is a powerful big cat that can be found across the Americas from southern Canada in the north to Argentina in the south. Pumas stalk their prey at night or during the fading light of dusk, creeping up on a victim before pouncing on it and inflicting a fatal bite to its neck.

In this fascinating clip, we follow two puma sisters as they learn to hunt for themselves. They live on rocky, sandy mountainsides and play and fall out as siblings often do. Watch as they stalk a guanaco (a relative of the llama). Will the sisters work together or will sibling rivalry create problems for them? Watch the clip to find out.

Word Challenge

Think about how the sisters creep up on the guanaco. You hardly dare breathe! How many different ways can you describe their stealth movements?

e.g. crept silently, padded inaudibly through the undergrowth , …

Florida reports 22,000+ abortions this year before the six-week law began.

A gavel in a courtroom with a nameplate that reads Abortion Law

The total through May 1 was up from the 14,735 abortions recorded in 2024 before the Florida Supreme Court ruled April 1 that a privacy clause in the state constitution does not apply to abortion rights.

More than 22,000 abortions were performed in Florida this year before a law took effect May 1 preventing most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.

Newly posted data on the state Agency for Health Care Administration website showed a reported 22,409 abortions had been performed as of May 1. That was up from 14,735 abortions a month earlier.

Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Republican-controlled Legislature passed the six-week limit last year, and it took effect after the Florida Supreme Court ruled April 1 that a privacy clause in the state constitution does not apply to abortion rights.

The six-week limit is expected to dramatically reduce the number of abortions performed in the state.

Voters in November will decide whether to approve a ballot proposal that would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution.
