Aavesham Movie Review: Fahadh Faasil unleashes a storm with unhinged performance in this comedy flick
Fahadh faasil is ready and loaded to appear once again on the big screens with his new film aavesham. here’s pinkvilla's review of the film to know whether the film is worth a watch or not., by goutham s.
Aavesham Movie Review: Fahadh Faasil brings on his fun side in this crazy ride (PC: Fahadh Faasil, Facebook)
Name: Aavesham
Cast: fahadh faasil, ashish vidyarthi, where to watch: theatre.
Fahadh Faasil is here again with yet another Malayalam entertainer flick called Aavesham. The film starring the Pushpa actor in the lead role also features an array of actors including Sajin Gopu, Hipzster, Mithun Jai Shankar, Roshan Shanavas, and Midhutty.
As the Romancham director Jithu Madhavan once again offers a comedy film of new flavors, it is set to stand strong among other releases. So here's the review of Pinkvilla on the film Aavesham to let you decide whether to watch the film on big screens or not.
Aavesham revolves around the story of a college-going trio who has recently joined a new college in Bengaluru. Being the victims of ragging and bullying by their seniors, the trio decides to exact revenge against them. Hoping to gain local support, the trio starts hanging around at various bars in the city. By sheer coincidence, they befriend a local goon called Ranga who is set to become their biggest boon or curse!
Seeing Aavesham on the big screen, we can undoubtedly say that this is Fahadh Faasil 's world and we are just existing in it. The film is a complete FaFa show, with the actor playing a totally different avatar from before. Along with the leading actor, the trio of newcomers Mithun, Hipzter, and Roshan also carry the film on their shoulders, despite being debutants in feature films. Sajin Gopu who also played a key role in Romancham also steals the show with his character.
The simple approach of the plot, with a relatable screenplay and premise not only offers a wild ride but also an entertainment-filled spectacular. The film's direction by Jithu Madhavan is definitely praiseworthy. Sameer Thahir who uses his camera magic also provides some magnificent visuals, especially with the use of color lights in emphasising the scene.
The editing done by Vivek Harshan is also a backbone in making the film, but the greatest technical brilliance is by Sushin Shyam. Be it the song Jaada sung by Manjummel's Sreenath Bhasi or let it be the fun track Illuminati, the tracks and scores hold the film together.
A factor that should not be missed while mentioning the film is the costume and styling department for Fahadh Faasil’s character. The white-clad costume of FaFa is an identity of the film and the character which serves a great purpose to the plot.
Along with that, the styling department that created the look for Ranga in both his flashback portions and present-day really extends the film’s quality. The handlebar mustache and the way Fahadh twirls it, emphasize the character’s dominance and presence is a worthy shoutout.
Even though the film is funny, wild, and crazy fun, the biggest flaw was the extension of certain scenes in both the first half and second half. The length of certain scenes felt a bit too drawn out in places.
Moreover, the film also felt like it needed more screen time for Fahadh Faasil. Even though the film rides on him, his involvement in the story needed time to be set up which felt like could've been earlier. Despite these minor errors, the film does not falter in entertaining you and definitely makes you crack up with laughter.
The Performance:
The performances put forth by all the actors, from the lead roles to the minor ones are definitely on timing and fun to watch. The debut trio of actors Hipzster, Mithun Jai Shankar, and Roshan Shanavas is one of the biggest highlights of the film. These actors may not be new faces for people who follow the Malayalam social media world but coming to the realm of cinema, the trio have established that they can effortlessly pull off acting as well.
The newcomer Midhutty, who is also a YouTuber plays one of the antagonists in the film and offers an acting spectacle with his brash character and psychotic nature. Moreover, the film also has Instagram content creator Hari Sivaram playing a supporting role which is set to make him memorable in the future.
Coming to other supporting performances, Sajin Gopu made everyone chuckle with his love for Ranga and the way he carried himself. Knowing everything about the goon’s personality, the actor put forth a quirky and fun character.
But the man of the show, the driving force and the beast of the film was none other than Fahadh Faasil. The makers themselves presented the title card as “re-introducing” FaFa which will make sense once you watch the film. The actor is undoubtedly playing his most unhinged and wildest character ever to date.
The film provides an open space for the actor to perform, making the big screens his kingdom. Every time the actor comes onto the screen with his aura, there’s a magical pull that elevates the scene and makes us want to hoot for him. The actor does not even need a massive punchline or an essay's worth of dialogue but only needs to stare with his eyes through a broken lens. The film absolutely presents a new shade to the character, making us want more and more of the actor.
Aavesham is ideally one of those movies that you could enjoy in theaters if you love a comedy film with a wild ride happening. The show is definitely run by Fahadh Faasil who is all set to entertain you with a great array of actors supporting him.
The wide and crazy ride is not only a laughter-filled vibe of a film but also manages to keep you wanting more of the world. The character sketch of Ranga and his dynamic spontaneity in situations make the film a complete package in the theaters.
So, if you want to experience a 2-and-a-half-hour crazy ride of a film, go and check out Aavesham in theaters near you!

'Varshangalkku Sesham' Review | A bittersweet tribute to tinsel town’s oddball residents
A ringside view of filmmaking narrated through dreamers who hurdle through the 'Tinsel Ville' for decades, 'Varshangalkku Sesham' by Vineeth Sreenivasan has an enjoyable ‘behind-the-scenes’ quality to it. Yes, it is a star-powered vehicle too with many popular faces, and it entertainingly justifies most of them as well. Primarily a tale of friendship between musician Murali ( Pranav Mohanlal ) and aspirant director Venu ( Dhyan Sreenivasan ), the movie also gives a nostalgic glimpse of ‘those who drank the tap water of Kodambakkam’ and all kinds of battles they fought to puzzle their dreams together.
Venu and Murali leave Kannur for Tamil Nadu driven by their cinema dreams and the power of their friendship. Once they reach their destination, they face different career graphs, bringing both professional and mental challenges alongside. In an industry where a Friday changes one’s fate, it also goes on to decide who stays and who doesn’t. How do the travails decide their life’s journey? ‘Varshangalkku Sesham’ showcases the same in a story that stretches five decades.
The movie has a ‘love letter for cinema’ quality to it at many stretches. The first half, which is mostly set in the yesteryears, has a ‘theatrical’ feel to it with many melodramatic dialogues and character sketches that make one wonder whether it’s going to be extremely self-indulgent like this, through its long 2 hours 45 minutes. The director is evidently trying to make the viewer feel invested in Murali and Venu, but it’s not easy to connect with them enough till the interval. Even the humour becomes predictable and falls through. Pranav is likeable in his younger avatars but struggles in his salt-and-pepper version. Interestingly, Dhyan shines mostly on the emotional turf of his character. Shaan Rahman does a decent job for a newbie actor. Kalyani Priyadarshan isn't given much space in the storyscape.
'Varshangalkku Shesham' trailer crosses 3 million views; fans excited for Dhyan and Pranav's combo
'Hridayam' was the perfect relaunch for Merryland banner: Producer Visakh Subramaniam
The second half is what makes the film lively. The characters played by Basil Joseph, Aju Varghese and most of all, Nivin Pauly elevate the film to an entertainer making the viewers laugh, reflect and even think of how the stakeholders in this industry have to be on their toes constantly to stay relevant, bankable and even appreciated. Nivin Pauly deserves to be applauded for transforming many episodes he faced in his career - from 'paving his own way' to body shaming, trolling and flop shows - into fun elements that elicit laughter. Of course, it's also thanks to good writing but Nivin oozed life into the lines giving his all, unabashedly.
Amrit Ramnath’s songs, mixing yesteryear elements in the right proportions with contemporary music, also keep the audience interested in the proceedings. The song ‘Nyabagam’ would surely be on the loop for many music lovers. As for direction, Vineeth isn't dwelling in his familiar territories - be it Tamil Nadu elements or nostalgia - in an annoying fashion though they are very much present, and the film doesn't reek of 'feel-goodness' either unlike his previous outings.
If you can survive its first half relying on soothing music, you are in for a fun ride powered by Nivin Pauly in its second. The film is also worth a watch if you love movies about movies.

‘civil war’ review: a torturous, overrated movie without a point.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.
Running time: 109 minutes. Rated R (strong violent content, bloody/disturbing images and language throughout). In theaters.
All director Alex Garland had to do was title his new movie “Civil War” for it to instantly be deemed Very Important by tastemakers.
Who cares that the script is lousy? Or that the acting is monotonous? Or that the story amounts to a series of gruesome killings that you’d rather not sit through?
Doesn’t matter. It’s essential!
The gnarly film is about a modern-day domestic war in America and is, therefore, a prescient warning to us all, we’ve already been told with conspicuous enthusiasm by lefty newspaper op-eds.
They insist: You, too, could soon be tied up at a roadside gas station and tortured by dudes with Southern drawls.
But really Garland’s movie is no more vital to the discourse than “ The Purge ,” and is about 1% as entertaining.
“Civil War’s” shtick is that it’s not specifically political.
For instance, as the US devolves into enemy groups of secessionist states, Texas and California have banded together to form the Western Forces. That such an alliance could ever occur is about as likely as Sweetgreen/Kentucky Fried Chicken combo restaurant.
Still, one deadly encounter with a soldier played by Jesse Plemons leaves no doubts about what actual party he is supposed to represent.
The Western Forces are duking it out with the loyalist states who follow the president (Nick Offerman) — a fascist in an illegal third term — as well as the Florida Alliance and the New People’s Army.
Lest you arrive expecting cool battles, the fights are mostly just three or four guys shooting three or four other guys until a slightly bigger clash at the end. All we get are tiny tussles in a war supposedly affecting 350 million people.
Garland, with his incessant vagueness, is clearly aiming to keep the story universal rather than divisive.
However, considering his movie is set in a land of folks who love to discuss and argue about the news, it’s odd that none of the characters ever give concrete details about what’s going on. How did this conflict start? What does anybody stand for? Who knows?
Avoiding the elephant (and donkey) in the room makes the whole shebang feel fake, with the help of some lethargic actors.
Our guides through this not-believable hellscape are a quartet of unlikable war journalists whose lives we barely learn about beyond their resumes.
Kirsten Dunst plays Lee Smith , a hardened frontline photographer for Reuters who’s become numbed to violence and danger over the years.
Joel (Wagner Moura) is her reporter sidekick, who gets a thrill out of the battlefield … until he doesn’t. Moura’s performance, by the way, leads me to believe his numbskull journo couldn’t convince a telemarketer to talk to him.
Stephen McKinley Henderson is an aging New York Times writer named Sammy, who’s just about had enough. And Jessie (Cailee Spaeny) is a young, aspiring fotog who worships Smith and tags along for the ride.
They embark on a road trip from New York City — which is being bombed — to Washington, DC, in an attempt to interview the press-hating president who is hiding out in the White House.
The plot plods along — they drive a bit, guy gets shot, they drive some more, guy gets shot — and the dialogue is bottom of the barrel.
At one point, Joel walks into a clothing store in an eerily calm small town and says, “Are you guys aware that there’s a pretty big civil war going on all across America?”
This is what the New York Times called “a terrifying premonition of American collapse”!
Dunst is the best of the four performers , but a bitter, been-there-done-that reporter is such an old cliche. She adds nothing new to the archetype except her name.
A movie about a fictional second civil war isn’t a terrible idea, I’ll grant.
But how about instead of torturing viewers with a parade of point-blank executions, Garland tries making a well-executed film?

Aavesham Malayalam Movie
The uneventful beginning of 'Aavesham' is like the balmy weather before the storm's arrival. The commotion usurps in with the arrival of Fahadh Faasil, who fascinatingly transforms himself as a powerful local don, Rangan, in Bengaluru. Writer-director Jithu Madhavan's sophomore film after 'Romancham' wins brownie points solely due to Fahadh's unrestrained portrayal of Rangan with high-spirited energy and exuberance with his weird body language. The actor is entitled to cut loose in his performance as the screenplay is devoid of significant turning points and plot twists. Jithu has presented Fahadh in a different avatar---clad in white attire and set of gold ornaments-apart from exploring the inner turmoil of the character at times. True to the title, the film manages to create engaging moments sans dwindling the level of excitement though the fissures in the script crop up quite often.
Ranga's transformation from an ordinary young man to a ruthless gangster leader is explained in the flashback and his emotional connection with 'motherhood' is justified in certain scenes. But the director refuses to invest time in exploring the emotional aspect in the protagonist's past and takes an abrupt U-turn to the present. The reaction of Rangan while attending the phone calls of Bibi's mother showcases his craving to get his mom's affection. Quite often, the absurd demeanour of Rangan leads to humorous situations but without bringing levity to the character's aggressive trait while dealing with enemies.
The film opens with the admission procedures in an engineering college in Bengaluru where three teenagers from Kerala join an aviation course. As first year students, they are scared of the seniors since they have witnessed juniors being ragged in college. Aju, essayed by Hipster, suggests that they can retaliate against seniors if they stand united. Bibi, played by Mithun Jai Sankar, and Shanthan (Roshan Shanavas) join him but they all undergo brutalities of seniors. Fed up by the tortures, Aju feels that their college life would be smooth if they get local support.
The three friends start to scout for local support by visiting local bars on the outskirts of the city. While they try to befriend local goons, they fail in their attempt. Once they bump into Rangan, who is a local gangster leader, in a local bar and soon they get a space in the group. What these boys want is to avenge the seniors using Rangan's support. Rangan's close aide Amban, played by Sajin Gopu, spins yarns about the adventures of Rangan and the boys become doubtful about Rangan's personality. Soon, they realize that their life has been invisibly tethered to Rangan's gang and it's hard to get rid of it. Debutants Hipster, Mithun and Roshan are impressive as they give a combined impression in the progress of the film. They have confidently performed in the action-packed terrain and convincingly exuded emotions whenever required.
'Aavesham' boasts of well-choreographed action sequences that maintain the flow of the movie as well as obliterate the defects in the plot. Sameer Thahir's visuals are captivating while Sushin Shyam excels in lending the background score. It is a film about tussle between gangsters and their influence on three students. The distraction is few and far between in the film that is saved by its pace in the narration. Content-wise, this movie is on the lower side but it is hard to ignore Fahadh stealing the show. In short, the actor cuts loose in this gangster comedy from the word go!

'Civil War' review: Kirsten Dunst leads visceral look at consequences of a divided America
We see “Civil War” trending on social media all too commonly in our divided country, for one reason or another, and usually nodding to extreme cultural or ideological differences. With his riveting new action thriller of the same name, writer/director Alex Garland delivers a riveting cautionary tale that forces viewers to confront its terrifying real-life consequences.
“Civil War” (★★★½ out of four; rated R; in theaters Friday) imagines a near-future America that’s dystopian in vision but still realistic enough to be eerily unnerving. It's a grounded, well-acted ode to the power of journalism and a thought-provoking, visceral fireball of an anti-war movie.
Played exceptionally by Kirsten Dunst , Lee is an acclaimed war photographer covering a fractured America: The Western Forces led by California and Texas have seceded from the USA and are days away from a final siege on the federal government. Lee and her reporting partner Joel (Wagner Moura) have been tasked with traveling from New York City to Washington to interview the president (Nick Offerman) before the White House falls.
After visually capturing humanity's worst moments, Lee is as world-weary and jaded as one can be. But after saving aspiring photographer Jessie (Cailee Spaeny) during a Brooklyn suicide bombing, Lee becomes a reluctant mentor as the young woman worms her way into their crew. Also in the press van: senior journalist Sammy (Stephen McKinley Henderson), hitching a ride to the Western Forces military base in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Most of “Civil War” is an episodic odyssey where Lee and company view the mighty toll taken by this conflict: the graveyard of cars on what’s left of I-95, for example, or how an innocent-looking holiday stop turns deadly courtesy of an unseen shooter. Primarily, however, it’s a disturbing internal examination of what happens when we turn on each other, when weekend warriors take up arms against trained soldiers, or armed neighbors are given a way to do bad things to people they just don’t like.
'No dark dialogue!': Kirsten Dunst says 5-year-old son helped her run lines for 'Civil War'
Given its polarizing nature, “Civil War" is actually not that "political." Garland doesn’t explain what led to the secession or much of the historical backstory, and even Offerman’s president isn’t onscreen enough to dig into any real-life inspirations, outside of some faux bluster in the face of certain defeat. (He’s apparently in his third term and dismantled the FBI, so probably not a big Constitutionalist.)
Rather than two hours of pointing fingers, Garland is more interested in depicting the effect of a civil war rather than the cause. As one sniper points out in a moment when Lee and Joel are trying not to die, when someone’s shooting a gun at you, it doesn’t matter what side you’re on or who’s good and who's bad.
The director’s intellectual filmography has explored everything from ecological issues ( “Annihilation” ) to AI advancement ( “Ex Machina” ), and there are all sorts of heady themes at play in “Civil War.” “What kind of American are you?” asks a racist soldier played with a steady, ruthless cruelty by Jesse Plemons (Dunst's husband) in a disturbing scene that nods to an even deeper conflict in society than the one torching this fictionalized version. There's also an underlying sense of apathy that the characters face, with hints that much of the country is just willfully ignoring the conflict because they'd rather not think about it. But this hellish road trip also maintains a sense of hopefulness − via the growing relationship between Lee and Jessie – and is pretty exciting even with its multitude of horrors.
'You get paid a lot of money': Kirsten Dunst says she's open for another superhero movie
“Civil War” is a thoughtful movie with blockbuster ambitions, and while it does embrace more of a straightforward action flick vibe toward its climactic end, Garland still lands a lasting gut punch. He immerses audiences in the unpredictable nature of war, with gunfire and explosions leaving even the calmest sort on edge, and paints a sprawling canvas of an America forever changed. Thankfully, it’s just a warning and not a promise, using the movie theater as a public service announcement rather than an escape from the real world.

'Aavesham' Review: Fahadh Faasil hits it out of the park in Jithu Madhavan film
Director jithu madhavan's 'aavesham', starring fahadh faasil, is a zany action comedy. with fafa's exceptional performance and impeccable comedy timing, the film is a total winner, says our review..
Listen to Story
- 'Aavesham' released in theatres on April 11
- The film is directed by Jithu Madhavan of 'Romancham' fame
- Fahadh Faasil plays the lead role in the film
Release Date: 11 Apr, 2024
After the success of director 'Romancham', director Jithu Madhavan is back with 'Aavesham'. And this time, he teamed up with the one and only Fahadh Faasil. 'Aavesham' managed to pique everyone's curiosity. And the pre-release teaser where Fahadh Faasil, clad in a towel, did a fun dance, took the expectations to a crescendo. Did 'Aavesham' impress everyone? Let's find out!
Set in Bengaluru, 'Aavesham' revolves around three college students, Bibi, Santhan and Aju, who get enrolled in a college, where they get bullied and ragged by seniors. In order to take revenge, the college students join hands with a local goon Ranga (Fahadh Faasil). How Ranga's involvement in their lives brings a change forms the story.
Director Jithu Madhavan's 'Aavesham' is a mad-cap entertainer with exceptional performances. The action comedy deals with a simple storyline and that's where its beauty lies. The filmmaker doesn't waste time in showing how Ranga became a goon and concentrates on his unique character traits. It is the comedy that works to a major extent for the film.
The filmmaker concentrates on character arcs and makes them interesting for the audience. While the second half lags in terms of content, Jithu Madhavan redeems himself with the climax. Also, let's not forget the intermission, which was a perfect theatrical moment.
The title credits of 'Aavesham' 're-introduce' Fahadh as Ranga and you will know why. As Ranga, Fahadh Faasil has wonderfully portrayed the dynamic character. Initially, his character looks like a ruffian with a comedic sense. However, there is more than what meets the eye, and you will know as the story progresses. His 'eda mone' and many antics make this character quite enjoyable and entertaining.
Accompanying Ranga is Sanjin Gopu's character, Amban, whose one-liners become major contributors to comedy in 'Aavesham'. Together, they're a riot. Similarly, young actors Hipster, Roshan Shanavas and Mithun Jai Sankar ease into their roles, making the film intriguing.
If Fahadh Faasil's performance is a major asset to 'Aavesham', composer Sushin Shyam's music is yet another aspect that adds beauty to the wild ride. Cinematographer Sameer Thahir and editor Vivek Harshan complement each other in enhancing the effectiveness of 'Aavesham'.
'Aavesham' is truly an enjoyable affair with brilliantly choreographed action sequences and comedy sequences. If you're a fan of Fahadh Faasil, then 'Aavesham' will prove why you became his fan in the first place. 3.5 out of 5 stars for 'Aavesham'. ‘Challengers’ Review: Zendaya and Company Smash the Sports-Movie Mold in Luca Guadagnino’s Tennis Scorcher
Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist compete for a fellow player’s heart in a steamy and stylish love triangle from the director of 'Call Me by Your Name.'

Anyone who’s ever played tennis knows the game starts with love and escalates fast. In Luca Guadagnino ’s hip, sexy and ridiculously overheated “ Challengers ,” the rivals are former doubles partners Art Donaldson ( Mike Faist ) and Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor), best friends since the age of 12, who went their separate ways after both players fell for the same woman. Patrick got there first, but Art wound up marrying her — and their sense of competition has only intensified since.
Popular on Variety
“I’m no homewrecker,” Tashi teases Art and Patrick the night they meet her, 13 years earlier. Constructed like a tennis competition, Justin Kuritzkes’ screenplay ricochets back and forth through time, asking us to pivot our brains the way audiences do at the movie’s opening challenger match. (In pro tennis, challenger events are like the minor leagues, where second-tier talents prove themselves.) This one frames the film, as Tashi seems torn between her husband and his old partner.
Watching from the stands, their legs splayed indecently wide, the pair ogle Tashi as the wind whips her short skirt up in the air. None of this is accidental: not the way Jonathan Anderson (as in J.W. Anderson, switching from catwalks to costume design in his first feature credit) showcases Zendaya’s gazelle-like legs, not the way DP Sayombhu Mukdeeprom frames the boys’ crotches, and certainly not the moment Patrick squeezes his pal’s leg as Tashi shows them how, at its most beautiful, the game can be an ecstatic experience.
Later that night, at an Adidas-sponsored party for Tashi, the guys take turns trying to get her number. They’re motivated by hormones. She’s more strategic (the sheer control involved in Zendaya’s performance is astonishing, transforming this would-be trophy into the one who sets the rules). “You don’t know what tennis is,” Tashi challenges Patrick, going on to explain, “It’s a relationship.” Lines like this, which spell everything out in blinking neon lights, run throughout Kuritzkes’ script. But Guadagnino’s execution is all about subtext, calibrating things such that body language speaks volumes.
The same goes for what promises to be the year’s hottest scene, back in the boys’ hotel room, as Tashi sits on the bed between the two and coaxes — or coaches — them to make out. “Challengers” is not a gay film per se, but it leaves things ambiguous enough that one could read it like Lukas Dhont’s recent “Close,” about a friendship so tight, the boys’ peers tease them for it.
Over the course of 131 minutes, “Challengers” volleys between what amounts to a romantic rematch and intimate earlier vignettes. At all times, even off-screen, Tashi remains the fulcrum. In the present, Art — whose torso shows signs of multiple surgeries — has been on a cold streak, which betrays a loss of passion for the game. Passion’s no problem for Patrick, who’s more confident in both his swing and his sexuality.
The film calls for intensely physical performances from the two male actors, who both appear wobbly and exhausted by the end. Faist (a Broadway star whom “West Side Story” introduced to moviegoers) has a relatively traditional character arc, patiently waiting his turn and evolving as the timeline progresses. O’Connor (whose smoldering turn in gay indie “God’s Own Country” got him cast on “The Crown”) comes across as animalistic and immature by comparison, as his bad-boy character refuses to grow up or give up.
Another filmmaker might have subtracted himself in order to foreground the story, whereas Guadagnino goes big, leading with style (and a trendy score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross). In keeping with the athletic theme, he does all kinds of wild things with the camera, including a composition framed from the umpire’s perspective mid-court that zooms along the net to find Tashi in the crowd. Occasionally, she and other characters smack the fluorescent yellow balls directly at the screen, making us flinch in our seats. By the end, “Challengers” has assumed the ball’s POV — or maybe it’s the racket’s — as Guadagnino immerses audiences in the film’s climactic match.
Far from your typical sports movie, “Challengers” is less concerned with the final score than with the ever-shifting dynamic between the players. The pressure mounts and the perspiration pours, as the pair once known as “Fire and Ice” face off again. Whether audiences identify as Team Patrick or Team Art, Guadagnino pulls a risky yet effective trick, essentially scoring the winning shot himself.

'Varshangalkku Shesham' review: Vineeth Sreenivasan builds balance between humour and satire
Vineeth's movie is exhilarating with a perfect blend of humour and friendship
Vineeth Sreenivasan, who wears many hats in Mollywood, has come out with another interesting movie that blends humour and a good storyline in Varshangalkku Shesham .
In his latest, Vineeth takes the viewers fifty years behind and then back to narrate the story of camaraderie between Venu (Dhyan Sreenivasan), Murali (Pranav Mohanlal). The two friends travel to erstwhile Madras in the hope of fulfilling their dream of becoming a scriptwriter and a composer respectively. In the hope of discovering talents and new people, they find a place to reside at ‘Swami Lodge’ before securing small gigs and gradually building connections.
In time, with a little help from Murali, Venu gets a chance to exhibit his film which later garners attention, boosting his name as a filmmaker. A successful Venu gradually builds a fortress and slowly drifts away from Murali.
Misunderstanding creates a scintillating plot twist as the story grapples through twists and turns while maintaining the balance of momentous and humoral elements. The sheer grip of engagement is seen through the narrative when the story starts building with Venus’s expedition to find Murali. With a pinch of humour, the story takes on a serious note as the scene reaches its crescendo as Pranav's Murali grabs the attention of spectators with his emotional engagement.
What makes the film exceptional is the character association. The role of Murali draws parallelism to the gravitating bonds of friendship.
In the second half, the thread of the story slowly starts shifting to achieving goals despite a bracketed age group. Venu, after years of stardom as a director, took a long break from cinema. As he reaches old age, he slowly feels rustic as his carrier attains a full stop. In the hope of gaining momentum, Murali encourages him to take the project. With engaging drama between characters Pradeep enacted by Basil Joseph an assistant director and Nivin Pauly as Nithin Moly the narrative never falls out of humour. Falling through pivotal and disproportions in their friendship, Venu and Murali reconcile by making a box office hit with his friend Murali contributing as a composer. The film presumes as a movie within a movie as the shooting of the scene and the undying element of the theatrical setting are interwoven in the plot.
The performance of Nivin Pauly in this film can be described as a ‘comeback’ which alludes to remark on the physical backlash that he has faced after changing his physique over the past years. With his witty comeback, he never fails to set the bar high as a dynamic actor. He brings in an element of satire with his pun-intended name and his colourful garments that never fail to get noticed.

‘Sasquatch Sunset’ Review: Big Feet and Small Brains
Four unrecognizably hairy actors, including Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough, play mythical creatures in this endearingly bonkers movie.
- Share full article
By Jeannette Catsoulis
If ever a movie seemed destined — nay, designed — for cult status or ignominy, “Sasquatch Sunset” is it. An initial glance suggests the kind of entertainment that emerges from late-night, bongwater-scented dorm rooms; yet surrender to its shaggy rhythms and you’ll find this sometimes tiresome portrait of a family of mythical beasts is not without intelligence and a strangely mesmeric intent.
Set in a North American forest (and filmed in the California Redwoods), the movie wraps four dauntless actors in layers of matted, gray-brown hair and impressively molded prostheses. Thus disguised, they lumber through a year of mating, childbirth, death and discovery, unburdened by names or lines of dialogue. To communicate, they grunt and yowl and gesture with a serio-comic zeal that earned my reluctant admiration. It must have been murderously sweaty inside those suits.
Little by little, personalities seep out. The alpha male (Nathan Zellner, who co-directed with his brother, David Zellner) is grumpy, aggressive and disruptively randy, courting furious rejection from the group’s sole female (Riley Keough). Her preferred partner (Jesse Eisenberg) is a gentler, more thoughtful soul, as is what appears to be their son (Christophe Zajac-Denek). Predators and poisonous fungi threaten the unwary, but these hirsute hillocks are mostly a danger to themselves — as the alpha will learn when he seems bent on visiting his lust on a hungry mountain lion.
A sincere gift to Bigfoot believers or a surreal cinematic prank, “Sasquatch Sunset” mimes the familiar beats of the nature documentary. This may be a one-joke movie, but it’s an oddly endearing jest, the beasts’ resemblance to primates tweaking our empathy. Even as their infantile, often disgusting antics become tedious, the film’s tone shifts from daft to tenderly melancholic as signs of human encroachment on their habitat multiply. The contents of an unattended campsite — especially a cassette player and a mirror — prove transfixing and unnerving; a paved road provokes the evacuation of every available body fluid. It’s a revolting sight, but also a touching one. We can see they’re terrified.
The roots of “Sasquatch Sunset” reach all the way back to 2011, when the Zellners’ four-minute film, “Sasquatch Birth Journal 2,” played at the Sundance Film Festival, highlighting the brothers’ inclination to cast a serious eye on patently unserious material. Since then, they have continued to treat preposterous stories — “Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter” (2015) , “Damsel” (2018) — with disarming gravitas. This time, they’re ably assisted by the marvelous cinematographer Mike Gioulakis, who, in films like “It Follows” (2015) and “Old” (2021) , has shown particular skill in giving a sublimely unsettling patina to ridiculous ideas. Here, his peaceful wildlife shots capture the natural world with a quiet awe, giving the forest a majesty unearned by the woolly dimwits it shelters and whose survival seems unlikely.
Positioning the sasquatches as threatened rather than threatening, “Sasquatch Sunset,” as its title suggests, is an oddball meditation on one species’ decline. Maybe even our own.
Sasquatch Sunset Rated R for spilled intestines and a perpendicular penis. Running time: 1 hour 29 minutes. In theaters.

Verdict: On the whole, Desam Lo Dongalu Paadru is a meaningless crime drama which has nothing going its way. The film does not engage you in any which way and bores you right from the beginning scene itself. All you need to do is to stay away from this one even if it is aired on TV. 123telugu.com Rating : 1.5/5.
