This study focused on the lived experiences of 11 working students and how these students balanced their studies and work at the same time. As an output of the study, a handbook that may help teachers, parents, and students to monitor their attendance and performance in school were proposed. The study made use of qualitative research with an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), a qualitative approach that aimed to provide detailed examinations of personal lived experience. Purposeful sampling was used. The participants of the study were the selected 11 working students, ages 14-17 years old of Barangay San Cristobal, Calamba City. Questionnaires and interviews were used as instruments to gather data. After collecting all the responses from the participants, the researcher extracted ten (10) themes from the responses, these were Nature, Length and Time of Work, Varied Reasons for Working, Income, and Spending, Different Experiences While Working and Studying, Status of Studies: All is Well, Challenges Faced, Balancing School and Work, Effects on them as a Child, To Quit or Not to Quit, Based on Experience: Giving Advice. Although their main priority was their studies, they always made sure to do their best to balance both work and studies. They made sure to give enough time for studies because they had goals and dreams they wanted to achieve but at the same time, they also gave their best and attention to work because it gave them financial support and benefits. Combining work and studies was not for everyone. These working students showed maturity, a sense of responsibility, and discipline to make it work.

Priorities and Intentions of Working-Students Working amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

Main article content.

COVID-19 pandemic, lived experience, special needs in education, working students

The study explored the priorities and intentions of working students who manage the challenging roles of being a student and a worker. This qualitative study used a descriptive phenomenological design. Five (5) working students from a state university volunteered to be the informants of the study and were selected through the snowball sampling technique. Data collected were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's six-step thematic analysis resulting in five themes. Results showed that working while studying was perceived to be challenging yet financially helpful. Students faced time constraints with school tasks, leading to poor grades. Hence, working students tended to have difficulty managing both roles, and the pandemic forced them to work that negatively impacted their academic performance. The study suggested that universities provide more flexibility for working students with options to adjust study loads for working students.

The interview was conducted with the children of Overseas Filipino Workers who are studying in Ayala High School during the school year 2018-2019. This study was limited to the number of children of Overseas Filipino Workers who served as the participants of this study. The one-to-one interview was utilized in this study. The objectives of this study are to determine the problems encountered by children of Overseas Filipino Workers, to determine the adjustments made by the children of Overseas Filipino Workers and to find out how did they cope with their problems. This study aimed to answer the following questions: What are the problems encountered by the participants?; What are the adjustments that the participants made when their parent started working abroad?; and How did the participants cope with these problems?. The result of analysis in our study in problems encountered by the children of Overseas Filipino Workers, is that they are having a hard time when they need their parents to share their problems, such as when there are someone bullying them, they only told it to their friends and relatives because their parents are not around to comfort them. In adjustments that the participants made when their parents started working abroad, the result that we got is When their parents left they are now the one who’s doing the household chores like washing clothes and cleaning house, children of OFWs particularly take that responsibility because their parents are not there to do that for them that's why they also learn to used to it and accepted that kind of situation, while in participants coping up with their problems, the result is children of OFWs spent time with their relatives and friends while their parents are not around and also they understand their parents because they know that the sacrifices they did is for them too to give them a better future. Working abroad is common, especially in the Philippines, and being away from the primary caregivers impacts the child. Thus, this study focuses on knowing the relationship between emotional maturity and the level of self-reliance of the children of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW). The researchers used descriptive-correlational quantitative and utilized a stratified random sampling method. The study consisted of 100 participants, with 50 females and 50 males who are children of OFW ages 18 to 30 years old and were below 18 years old when their parents started working abroad and must be residing in the Davao Region. This study used the Emotional Maturity Scale by Yashvir Singh and Mahesh Bhargava (1990) to measure the children's emotional maturity and the Selfreliance Questionnaire by Catherine Harrison (2011) to measure whether the respondents are selfreliant. The data gathered showed that the emotional maturity of the children of OFW is average, while self-reliance measures a fair result. The results also showed no significant relationship between the emotional maturity and level of self-reliance of the children of OFW. These findings suggest establishing a good relationship with their children before and while working abroad and encouraging authorities to use more inclusive methods that are beneficial for children of OFW. Moreover, the researchers recommend that future researchers widen the scope of the respondents' age bracket, expand the population to include the national respondents and perform other ways to test the variables further.

This study about former Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) would likely focus on the challenges and experiences that they face upon returning to the Philippines after working abroad. Many OFWs leave the country in search of better job opportunities and higher wages, but their time abroad is often marked by separation from their families and adjustment to new cultures. They may also struggle with feelings of isolation and depression, as well as financial challenges. Despite these challenges, many former OFWs are being resilient and resourceful, using their experiences abroad and small savings to build small businesses and also receives support from the government of their home country. This study generated four themes namely: 1. For the Future, 2. Challenges, 3. Motivation, and 4. Coping Strategies.

Adolescence is a period of transition from childhood to adulthood that affected many aspects of development. Adolescent’s happiness remains one of the relevant topics to be researched. Plenty of factors can bring happiness to teenagers, similarly many factors can make adolescents experience unhappiness, one of which is being separated from their parents for a long time for reasons of working abroad or becoming a TKI (Indonesian Migrant Worker). This literature review discusses happiness on teenagers in general and on teenagers who have parents working as migrant workers. Evidence showed that adolescents with parents as migrant workers need support as they are threatened by negative factors that make them as one of the most vulnerable children in Indonesia.

Thus, this phenomenological study describes the lived experiences of work-shifters and how they coped with the problems they experienced in different working shifts. Methods. This qualitative research utilized a phenomenological research design to understand the participants' lived experiences. Also, to know how they cope with the problems they experienced at work and in life related to the central question, "How do Filipino work-shifters identify their stress and coping mechanisms to reach self-actualization?" The researchers collected data through a semi-structured one-on-one interview that consisted of 25 developmental questions and was...

Using a descriptive-quantitative research design, this study aimed to examine the health conditions of adolescents left behind by OFW-parents, and to determine how their health is influenced by their personal and lifestyle characteristics and their use of protective mechanisms. A total of 400 adolescents left behind (ages 13-17) by OFW-parents were selected via multi-stage area sampling and were surveyed by using a guided group-administered questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and multivariate ordinal logistic regression were performed to analyze the data Results show that adolescents left behind by migrant parent/s perceived themselves as healthy, that is –overall, they have good health condition. Health domains show that their physical and psychological health conditions are very healthy, their emotional condition is good or healthy, and their social and spiritual health conditions as moderately healthy. This study also found strong significant association of their overall health condition with their personal characteristics, lifestyle pattern, and with their use of protective mechanisms. Univariate analyses show that 6 out of the 20 independent variables examined were significant, and that sex is the strongest predictor of their overall health condition with the female respondents having more likely to perceive their health condition as good or healthy most of the time compared to male respondents. Different health domains show varied significant predictors. Their physical health condition is strongly predicted by their good personal hygiene practices. The sex of the main care provider predicts their psychological health condition, that is those with female care provider are less psychologically healthy compared to those with male care provider. Their emotional health is predicted the strongest by their personal interests, that is those who engage in unhealthy lifestyle are less likely to be emotionally healthy compared to those who engage themselves in healthy lifestyle. Their social health is predicted the strongest by their pattern of communication with the parent-away, that is those who do not have an open and regular pattern of communication with the parent away are less likely to be socially healthy compared to those who have an open and regular communication with the parent away. Lastly, their spiritual health condition is predicted the strongest by the absence of the mother, that is those respondents with OFW mother tends to lacking on their spiritual base compared to those who have non-OFW mothers. Findings of the study hope to enhance the understanding of the health conditions of adolescents left behind by migrant parents and associated factors for programmatic action.
