Welcome Speech for a Scientific Conference: Examples & Tips

Matthieu Chartier, PhD.

Published on 15 Feb 2022

Having a well written welcome speech that you’re confident about goes a long way in overcoming public speaking nervousness.

A great welcome speech sets the tone for the conference. It makes everyone feel welcome and creates the appropriate environment for the exchange of knowledge. The speech should broadly outline the contents of the event and, most importantly, make everyone feel excited for what’s to come.

In this article, you will find our best tips to create a successful welcome speech and some examples with analysis for inspiration.

Quick Tips for a successful welcome speech

Formal vs. informal language.

The first thing you should decide is whether you want to use formal or informal language. For larger events that include scientists of various fields where everybody might not know each other, you may want to use formal language. For smaller yearly conferences for researchers in your field where most people know each other, it’s common to use informal language.

I find that, in general, a rather informal or casual speech is more successful. That way you set the tone and bring everyone to the same level, promoting questions, comments, and socialization during the event.

Greet and welcome everyone

Start with a warm welcome. As alluded before, this can range from very formal (“Good morning to all attendees”) to informal (“Hello and welcome, everyone!”). These will be your first words, so you need to grab everyone’s attention—use a clear, strong voice.

A smile goes a long way to make everyone feel welcome and in a good mood. Make eye contact as you start addressing the room.

It can be great to inject a bit of humor, if appropriate. It could be something as simple as, “We are lucky to be in such a beautiful location with so many beaches close by. I hope that is not the main reason you’re here!”.

Talk about the event’s history and purpose

Is it a first-time event, a yearly conference put on by a scientific organization? In any case, you’ll want to mention the motivation behind the conference, what brings you together. If the event is related to a specific organization, you can mention its history and purpose.

Mention any distinguished guests

It is common for scientific conferences to have one or more distinguished guests or speakers. Mention them and thank them for accepting the invitation to participate. Make sure you have their names, credentials and affiliations correct.

Thank creators and/or organizers

If the event is being held for the first time, thank the creators by name. Give some words of appreciation to the organizing committee. You don’t need to mention every single person involved, but rather the essential ones.

State the main topic(s)

Mention the main topic(s) of the conference, the common interests for all attendees. For annual conferences of scientific organizations, a specific subject within the field is usually chosen for each year. For example, for an annual meeting of an immunology organization, the year's topic could be “Infectious Diseases” or “Immunotherapies.”

Touch on the agenda

Briefly outline the event’s agenda. You can mention whether there will be sessions with specific (sub)topics, poster presentations, spaces for exchange and networking. Don’t get  into too many details. You can direct people to the conference brochure, if there is one, for specifics on the schedule.

Motivate everybody

End your speech on a high note by getting everyone excited about the talks to come. Highlight all the strengths of the conference: any high-impact research that will be shown, the variety of topics that will be covered, the great number of attendees, the different countries represented.

Introduce the first speaker

If the first speaker follows your welcome speech, don’t forget to introduce him or her. Introduce them with their full name and credentials and give a brief description of their career achievements.

Rehearse a few times

Practice with colleagues and friends to get some feedback and familiarize yourself with your speech. You want to be familiar enough that you don’t need to look down at your notes constantly. However, don’t over rehearse. You don’t want to sound robotic, but rather natural and conversational.

Be sure you know how to pronounce all the names in your speech. Make eye contact with the audience and with specific attendees as you mention their names.

Keep it brief

In general, you should keep your speech short, usually around 5 minutes. Consult with the organizing committee so you know how long they expect you to talk.

In-person vs. virtual event

Virtual events are very common right now and likely will be for a while. This creates some challenges when giving a welcome speech. Making eye contact with the attendees is not possible when you’re on a video call. That being said, you can still give a great speech and get people excited virtually. Just make sure that people can clearly see and hear you before you start.

Welcome speech examples

1. welcome and opening remarks - 2015 coast/ssew symposium.

In the above example of opening remarks for a scientific symposium , the speaker starts by welcoming everyone with a smile and lots of eye contact. It seems the attendees are in the same field of research and among familiar faces. Accordingly, her language is informal. She adds a bit of humor when she talks about collecting money in a bowl.

She follows by explaining the origin of the organization that the symposium is for, along with the main topics that will be covered. In the middle, she asks  the audience some questions to keep them engaged. Finally, she creates positive expectations by presenting a “sneak peek” of brand-new research and mentioning “leaders” in the field of microbiome.

 2. IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering Welcome Speech

Read this welcome speech for an annual international conference.

This seems to be a scientific conference with attendees from various countries and from a broad range of fields. The formal language used is therefore appropriate. The speaker welcomes the attendees and introduces the distinguished keynote speakers.

The origins and goals of the conference are outlined. He broadly describes the topics that will be discussed. Then, he thanks the organizing committee, companies and volunteers involved. Finally, he mentions “internationally notorious speakers,” a great way to spark people’s interest.

 3. Welcoming Address | Dale Mullennix

In this welcoming address, the speaker starts by warmly welcoming the audience. He uses rather informal language since it seems this is a regularly held event where most people know each other. He throws in some humor, directly addresses the audience, and asks them questions to grab their attention at the beginning.

By conveying the value that the attendees will find in the lectures to come, he creates anticipation. He makes lots of eye contact throughout and doesn’t even have notes! By the end, he tells a personal story and connects it to the theme of the event.

With these tips and examples, we hope that you are inspired to write a great welcome speech.  Remember to keep it brief, conversational, and not overly formal, unless necessary. Eye contact and a smile go a long way.

Are you on welcome speech duty for an upcoming program or event? You’ve got nothing to worry about—with the right format and tone, it’s super easy to write and present a welcome speech for just about any occasion. We’ve outlined everything you need to know, from your opening greetings and acknowledgments, to establishing the right tone and nailing your closing remarks. You’ve got this in the bag!

Greeting the Audience

Step 1 Welcome the audience using serious language for a formal occasion.

  • Keep the tone more serious if it's an important occasion. Use more formal language and don't crack any inappropriate jokes. For example, at a wake, you might say, "We're so glad to have you all here tonight. We appreciate your presence at this difficult time."

Step 2 Greet guests informally by using light-hearted language.

  • For an event with close friends and family, more informal language might be appropriate. Include a few jokes and keep your speech more lighthearted.

Patrick Muñoz

Grab your audience's attention with a strong opening. Start with a loud voice and a strong presence that welcomes everyone and gets them involved. Ask a question they can respond to or tell a joke — anything to connect with the audience. Do something that grabs their attention and excites them and makes them thrilled about the event.

Step 3 Add individual greetings for any special guests.

  • Special guests include any people of honor, those that may play a particularly important part in the event, or those who have traveled a long way to be there.
  • Make sure that you practice all of names, titles, and pronunciations of the special guests before your speech.
  • For example you could say, "We'd like to extend a special welcome to our guest of honor, Judge McHenry, who will be speaking later tonight."
  • Alternatively to welcome a group of people you might say, "While we're excited to have you all here tonight, we'd especially like to say welcome to the students from Johnson Middle School."

Step 4 Introduce the event itself.

  • For an informal event such as a birthday party, you could say, "We're so happy to have you here tonight to eat, drink, and celebrate another year of Jessica's life. Now, let's get to it."
  • For a more formal event such as one run by an organisation, you could say, “We are so excited to have you all here to participate in our 10th annual pet’s day, organised by the Animal Rescue Group.”

Forming the Body of the Speech

Step 1 Acknowledge those who have played an important part in the event.

  • An example of acknowledging individual people is saying, “We couldn’t have pulled off this fundraiser without the hard work and dedication of Grace and Sally, who worked tirelessly from day 1 to make today a reality.”
  • Avoid reading off a long list of people or sponsors, as your audience will begin to get bored. Stick to just a handful of highlights.

Step 2 Mention any parts of the event that are of special importance.

  • For instance, at a conference, you might point out when the dinner will be held, or where particular sessions will take place.
  • At a wedding reception, you might note when dancing will start or when the cake will be served.

Step 3 Reiterate your welcoming line.

  • Alternatively, you could end the body of your speech during an informal gathering by saying, “I can't wait to see you all out on the dancefloor!”

Ending the Speech

Step 1 Say that you hope the audience enjoys the event, if applicable.

  • You could also say that you hope that the audience takes something away from the event. For example, “I hope that today inspires ideas and discussions around the ways that we can make our city a better place!”

Step 2 Introduce the next speaker if necessary.

  • At a formal event, you might say, "Now, for our speaker. Rebecca Roberts comes here from Montreal, Canada, and she is a leading expert in the study of the human brain. She'll be speaking tonight on what drives humans to make decisions. Let's welcome her."
  • For a more informal event such as a party, you could say, “Next up is Sam, who has been Kyle’s best friend for 10 years strong. He has a decade of embarrassing stories about Kyle to share with us tonight!"

Step 3 Thank the audience for attending.

  • Alternatively you might say, “Thank you again to everyone for being here tonight to celebrate Joe and Kathleen’s 50th wedding anniversary! Let the celebrations begin!”

Step 4 Keep your speech within a suitable time limit.

  • If you are unsure, ask the organiser or host what an appropriate length of time for your speech will be.

About This Article

Patrick Muñoz

To write a welcome speech, start with a greeting to your audience that’s appropriate to the situation. For example, you could try “Good evening ladies and gentlemen” if you’re introducing a formal event, or “Thank you everyone for coming on this sunny day” for a more relaxed occasion. After you’ve finished the greeting, introduce the event by talking about who organized it and what its purpose is. In the main body of your speech, acknowledge 2 or 3 people who played important parts in organizing the event. You should also emphasize special parts of the event that people should pay attention to, such as where dinner will be or where a conference session will take place. When you’re ready to conclude your speech, tell the audience to enjoy the event by saying something like “I hope you all enjoy the exciting speakers to come.” Finish your speech by thanking the audience for attending. How to Write a Welcome Speech | Academic Conference Edition

Have you ever been to a conference where the welcome speech left you wanting more information or didn’t make you excited for what’s to come? Yikes! You may not be alone in that sentiment.

But were you invited to give the welcome speech for the upcoming conference you’re attending, and want to do a better job? Fun stuff, congratulations!

We can’t take the conference jitters away, but we can help you learn about welcome speeches and how to write one in this article. In the end, you’ll see how Orvium helps the research community prepare for a conference.

What is a Welcome Speech?

A welcome speech (or address) sets the tone for a conference or event. The speech must describe what’s to come and get everyone excited for the event and feel welcome. It should also create an appropriate environment for knowledge sharing.

Anyone can deliver a welcome speech, but a minimum of excellent presentation skills, fun and creative demeanor, and the ability to be personable are major pluses. If you haven’t given a speech of this caliber before, remember that preparing your notes, writing your speech, and delivering it are all a part of the process . Practice makes perfect.

An excellent welcome speech will unite the audience, helping them come together for a common purpose.

See some examples of welcome speeches here , and learn how to write your own below.

How to Write a Welcome Speech for a Conference

1. get the event focus and tone right.

Since a welcome speech sets the tone for a conference or event, you must ensure it’s informative and interesting. While thinking about this, decide whether or not you’ll use formal or informal language . How you choose, structure, and deliver your words matters. These all come together to create the “tone”.

To decide between formal and informal language for your welcome speech, consult the graph below:

how to give a welcome speech in a seminar

Typically, you’ll want to use formal language for a conference (but not overly formal) depending on your audience demographics and ensure everyone can understand you. A welcome speech has the following structure:

  • opening and welcome
  • theme and main topics
  • outcome (or agenda)
  • thank yous (to attendees, sponsors, volunteers, vendors, speakers, etc.)
  • a closing statement.

Pro tip : you want to connect with your audience, grab their attention, and get them excited about the event, so start with a strong but warm opening. Don’t mention everyone involved throughout your speech, as that can get lengthy; instead, mention the essential speakers, organizations, associations, or volunteers. Finally, end the speech on a good note to get everyone excited with stats and pertinent information, such as:

  • the high number of attendees
  • any high-impact research that will be shown
  • the different represented countries
  • the variety of covered topics.

If you don’t know where to start, follow this welcome speech planner and read the information below.

2. Take Notes and Draft an Outline

From our Full Guide to Planning an Academic Conference, you know that your welcome speech must add value to the conference , just as each keynote and session speaker does. To do so, research (and reach out to) essential participants (keynote, session speakers, vendors, etc.) to make sure you know what kind of approach you can take with your speech. Humor works in the right circumstances, but you must spend time thinking it through; not all jokes will be taken lightly, and you want to avoid any misunderstandings.

Remember, your goal is to unite and bring together like-minded individuals who all have a common purpose, that of advancing and sharing knowledge .

In your notes or outline, you’ll want to include the following steps:

  • Welcome the audience - use a clear and strong voice to welcome all attendees and grab their attention.
  • an example of an informal greeting: “Hello and welcome, everyone!”
  • an example of a formal greeting: “Good evening to all attendees. It’s wonderful to see you all.”
  • Introduce the event - say the event’s name, purpose, and age or history (if it’s a repeat event or conference), and talk a bit about the event’s organization.
  • Mention any distinguished guests - ensure you get their names, affiliations, and credentials correct.
  • State the main topics - the main topics are the attendees’ common interests, so you may choose to present a specific subject within the field selected that year.
  • Outline the agenda - mention whether there’ll be sessions with specific poster presentations, (sub)topics, or areas and spaces to exchange and discuss ideas or network. Direct attendees to the conference website, content management tool , or brochure for schedule specifics.
  • Motivate everyone - highlight any conference strengths and warmly introduce the first speaker or entertainment.

Important to note : for virtual events, ensure that attendees can see and hear you clearly and look up from your notes or outline often.

3. Write Your Speech

As you’re finalizing your notes or draft, ensure that your speech is around the five-minute mark to avoid boredom or giving the audience too much information right off the bat (to not take away from any speakers). Consult with the organizing committee about a time frame, as the length of the speech can vary from conference to conference.

Pro tip : add individual greetings as necessary for special guests, speakers, or sponsors.

4. Rehearse Your Speech

Once you’ve done the necessary research, outlined, and written your welcome speech, it’s time to rehearse it a few times to familiarize yourself with your speech. Read it out loud and practice it with colleagues or friends to get their input and feedback on areas of possible improvement.

However, don’t over-rehearse your speech . You want to still sound natural, not robotic or like you’re reading a script.

Again, ensure you know how to pronounce everyone’s name and credentials as you’re rehearsing, and practice making enough eye contact with the audience or specific attendees as you’re speaking.

Orvium Makes You Feel Welcome

No one can take the nerves of giving the opening speech at a conference away; however, Orvium can make it less nerve-wracking. If you’re having trouble finding colleagues or like-minded individuals to review your speech outline and give you feedback, you can reach out to one of the Orvium communities to get to know other people in the field.

Who knows, maybe you’ll meet members and form friendships that’ll last a lifetime.

As for giving your welcome speech, remember to get the tone right, keep it brief, and don’t make it overly formal (unless absolutely necessary). Also, a smile and a lot of eye contact go a long way . How to Write Your Welcome Speech for International Webinar

Giving a speech for an international webinar can be exciting and nerve-wracking. Of course, you want to make a great first impression. But you also don’t want to overwhelm your audience with too much information.

So, what can you do to ensure your welcoming speech’s incredible success? Here are some tips on delivering a stellar introduction for your international webinar.

Table of Contents

Say Your Greetings

When giving a welcome speech, it’s always essential to start with a few pleasantries. Saying your greetings shows respect to your audience and sets the tone for the rest of the speech.

In some Asian countries, for example, it’s customary to bow when greeting someone. At the United Nations, delegates from all over the world shake hands when they meet.

No matter the culture, taking a moment to say hello goes a long way toward making everyone feel at ease. And by greeting your participants in a culturally appropriate way, you show that you value their traditions.

With that, here are some ways to say “hello” in various countries around the world.

So whether you’re giving a speech to your classmates or business people, start with a warm hello. It’ll go a long way towards making your audience feel welcome.

Introduce Yourself and Any Seminar Delegates

As for the opening remarks , introducing yourself, and any seminar delegates is vital, although it may seem like a minor detail.

By taking the time to do this, you help create a sense of community and belonging among the participants. Plus, it helps set the tone for the rest of the seminar.

For example, you’re giving a talk at educational institutions. Introducing yourself as one of the respected teachers helps establish credibility.

But if it’s an informal event, you could say, “Dear colleagues, it’s a great pleasure to attend today’s seminar!” Doing so helps create a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Also, introducing yourself and your co-speaker—

  • Sets the tone for the rest of the speeches
  • Helps the audience understand your credentials
  • Allows you to establish rapport with the audience
  • Allows you to make an excellent first impression, and get the audience on your side from the start

Explain the Objectives of the Webinar

Introducing the objectives of the webinar at the start is an integral part of a welcome speech. It orients participants to the webinar coverage and why each one is crucial.

Likewise, it builds credibility by providing an overview of the topics. It also reinforces the purpose of attending the webinar.

All these factors combined create a more engaged and attentive audience, leading to a more successful webinar.

Here’s an example for this part.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our webinar on “Sustainable Development Goals!” My name is Lara, and I will be your speaker today.

Our objectives for this webinar are threefold:

  • To provide an overview of the Sustainable Development Goals
  • To discuss how you can implement the Sustainable Development Goals in the workplace
  • To answer any questions you may have about the Sustainable Development Goals

So, without further ado, let’s begin this webinar.

Outline the Key Points

Outlining the key points of the upcoming discussion is part of writing a welcome speech. Doing so ensures everyone in the audience understands the webinar’s coverage clearly.

Besides that, you can keep the discussion on track in your respective fields. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when creating your outline:

  • Introduce the topic of the discussion. Give a quick overview of what you will cover.
  • Identify the key points you’ll be covering in more detail. You’ll want to focus on these points during your speech.
  • Provide a summary of each key point. Doing so will orient everyone and give a better understanding of the discussion.
  • End with a call-to-action or a question for further discussion. This step will engage the audience and ensure everyone takes something away from the experience.

State the Date, Time, and Duration of the Webinar

Date, time, and duration let your attendees know when they need to be available. It also ensures that everyone is on the same page and knows how long the webinar will be.

By providing this information upfront, you can avoid confusion or frustration later. Additionally, stating these details in your welcome speech shows you’re an organized person.

More than that, it can instill confidence in your attendees. And it can encourage them to participate actively in the webinar.

Ultimately, including this crucial information sets the tone for an informative webinar.

To better understand it, here’s an example.

Hi everyone! Thanks for joining us today for our webinar on personal development.

Before we start, I want to let you know we’ll record this webinar. That said, it will be available on our website to watch later if you can’t make it today.

Also, I wanted to remind everyone that we will take questions at the presentation’s end. You can type your queries into the chat box, and we’ll answer as many as possible at the end.

Finally, I want to let you know that this webinar will last about 45 minutes, and we’ll be starting right on time at 2:00 pm EST.

Get More Resources

Provide a Brief Overview of the Topics

There are various issues to cover in your webinar. And it can be helpful to provide a brief overview of these topics in your welcome speech.

This way, your audience will better understand what you will discuss. Likewise, it sets the stage for the rest of your speech and ensures your audience can follow along and understand the main points of your talk.

What’s more, is that it—

  • Helps to ensure that everyone in the audience is on the same page
  • Provides a roadmap for the rest of the speech and can help keep the speaker on track
  • Gives the audience a hint of what they can expect to learn from the speech

Here’s an example.

Hello everyone!

Thank you for joining us here today. We gather to celebrate the importance of health, natural resources, and free expression. These are all essential components of a happy and productive life.

The importance of good health is something that we can all appreciate. A healthy body allows us to do the things we love and enjoy life to the fullest.

Of course, our natural resources are another vital part of a happy life. We need clean air and water to breathe and drink. Likewise, we need healthy plants and animals to provide us with sustenance.

Then, our freedom of expression is essential for a thriving democracy. And it’s something that we should all work hard to protect.

Thank you for joining us today. I hope you will take away some valuable insights as we go through our webinar to help you live a happier life.

Highlight How Participants Can Benefit from Attending the Webinar

It’s always a good idea to remind participants what they will get from the webinar. Doing so creates anticipation and excitement among the audience. It also helps increase attendance rates.

Highlighting webinar benefits also ensures attendees get the most out of the experience.

There are many different ways in which participants can benefit from a webinar. For example, they may learn new skills or gain accent improvement in new areas of their industry. They may also have the opportunity to talk with other professionals. Or they can discuss important topics related to their field.

Of course, you can also provide other materials, such as handouts and slides. Participants can use these materials to follow along during the webinar.

Thank Participants for Their Time

Thanking participants for their time is a critical element of any welcome speech. It’s a way to show your appreciation for their attendance. And it also sets the tone for the rest of the event.

By thanking participants, you’re signaling that you value their input. Plus, it shows that you want to create a positive, constructive environment.

To thank participants effectively, you need to speak in a conversational tone. Avoid sounding too formal or scripted. Just be polite and sincere, and take a moment to address each person in the room.

Here are some examples of things you might say:

  • “Thank you all for coming today. I appreciate your time and your participation.”
  • “Thank you for being here. I know this is an important issue, and I’m glad we have such a passionate group of people working on it.”
  • “Thanks again for coming. I’m looking forward to hearing your ideas.”

Remind Participants to Use the Webinar Hashtag During the Event

Using a designated hashtag will put all the discussions from your webinar in one place. This way, it will be easy for participants to reference later.

In the same way, it can be great for marketing purposes . For example, you can include Twitter handles for all the speakers. Then, your followers who couldn’t attend the live event can still see what they missed. It will also create a buzz within the industry.

How to introduce a speaker — the art of giving (and receiving) a great introduction.

microphone stage convention

A good introduction is essential to get a speaker off to a good start. The tendency for event hosts to go casual and say a few non-substantive words — or worse, to try to make a joke at the speaker’s expense — hurts both the speaker and the meeting. Here’s why, and how to give a good intro that will help the speaker — and the event — succeed.

Audiences want several things from a speaker, and some of them right away. First, audiences begin by asking why — why should I pay attention? Why should I care? Why is this going to be important to me? If a speaker is successful, the audience will start asking how — how do I get started? How do I make this my own? That’s success for a speaker — moving the audience from why to how.

Second, audiences test speakers for a few things: trust, credibility, likability. On these items, they’ll give a speaker a little time, but they make unconscious decisions very quickly, and those unconscious decisions are hard to turn around. So it’s better to get it right from the start.

That’s where the introduction comes in. An introduction can help answer the why question. And an introduction can help establish credibility, especially, but also trust and likability. The result of a good introduction is to greatly increase the likelihood that the speaker will do well. At least, she’s off to a good start.

A good introduction should answer 3 questions

A good introduction should answer 3 questions: why this speaker, on this subject, to this audience? A little humor is permitted, but an introduction should never denigrate the speaker, even in fun. The idea is to build the speaker up in the audience’s mind.

As an example, here’s a short introduction I provide for my own speaking engagements

Here at XXXXXXX, we live and die by our communications successes and failures. So it is with special excitement that I’m pleased to welcome Dr. Nick Morgan to our annual gathering. Nick is one of America’s top communication theorists and coaches. He has coached people to give Congressional testimony, to appear on the Today Show, and to take on the investment community. His latest book, Trust Me: Four Steps to Authenticity and Charisma , was published by Jossey-Bass last year. And he has one of the best blogs on communications.

Have you ever wondered why you can’t take your eyes off some charismatic public figures, while others put you immediately to sleep? Nick is going to demystify charisma and storytelling for us today, giving us lots of practical ideas we can immediately put to work when we’re back in the office on Monday…

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Nick Morgan!

I’ve often noted that a celebrity speaker can be mediocre and yet the audience can report that it had a good time. The reason is that the celebrity has already been ‘introduced’ to the audience — the audience knows the celebrity by advance reputation. The work of a good introduction is to raise the speaker to celebrity status for the purposes of that occasion.

Always end with an applause line for the speaker — “so please join me in welcoming Jane Doe!” — to allow her time to get up on the stage and ready to go. And it’s a very good idea to shake the speaker’s hand as he or she goes by on the way to the lectern. Shaking another person’s hand is grounding and comforting, and will help the speaker get off to a good start.

In terms of body language, the handshake gives the audience the sense that it has met the speaker close up, because a good introducer is the representative of the audience. So when the speaker and introducer shake hands, a bond is formed with everyone.

So don’t neglect the introduction.

It’s up to the speaker to prepare a good introduction

And speakers, prepare a good one. Don’t assume that the folks in charge will have a credible intro ready to go. Make it easy for them and write it yourself. You need the boost so that you can show up in front of that audience with credibility, trust, and likability.

Without a carefully prepared script, here’s what can go wrong. At best, the person introducing you, blandly reads your your bio that she’s printed from your web site. At worst, you get introduced by an enthusiastic ad-libber, and he starts by saying, “I’m not going to read the intro they sent me.” He adds some irrelevant comments about how he met you the evening before over the Spilled Bloody Mary Incident (his fault, not yours). What’s supposed to be charming self-deprecating humor is awkward and goes on too long. The rest of the introduction gets lost in the verbal shuffle, and the host gets key facts wrong, stumbling over the sentence structure and some unfamiliar words. He leaves out mention of your book, and ends with another half-hearted attempt at humor. You walk on stage to the sound of a lot of single hands clapping.

If you want to avoid this sort of disastrous incident and be guaranteed to get your speech off to the best possible start every time, create a DVD intro that showcases you and your history with some drama and excitement. The video will put you in the best possible light and get the audience keyed up to see you. You can do this in a carefully scripted 3-minute video, and the cost can be quite reasonable. In any case you should mentally amortize the cost over all the introductions that won’t be botched from here on.

What should go into those 3 minutes? Answer the question why? Why are you cool, why is your speech important, why should the audience care. Give a few salient details about your accomplishments, and end with the music amped up and the cheers already rolling in. Have the last words of the voice over be, “Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome (You)!” and the applause will follow naturally. The great thing about video (with a compelling soundtrack) is that it can touch the emotions in a way that’s much harder for your host to do, statistically speaking.

It’s all about quality control. Create your own intro video and you’ll never have to suffer a botched intro again. Get the intro right, and the speech is half done.

I am presenting a workshop to our employee self-help group at the Social Security Administration next week. The topic will be: “How to be a better meeting participant & take better notes”. They asked me for my bio. It is usually is read or paraphrased as an introduction. I have never been happy with the “Read the Bio” approach, but couldn’t elaborate a better method. I will share your posting with our core group so that the speaker introductions are more effective for the participants.

Do you need to introduce a person in by their profession? Like this is Engineer Sam or this is Architect Sam? How about the teachers, do we need to introduce them as Teacher Sam? I just want to know because some people I know introduce them by their profession. And when do we need to use their profession.

Hi, Dennis —

An introduction answers several questions for the audience: why this person, why this topic, why this audience, why now. The speaker’s profession is almost always included in that answer. Not always (imagine someone talking about being a recovering alcoholic, for instance), but almost always.

Hello Sir Nick, I am invited to speak on a graduation day.. can i ask for a nice idea on how the they will introduce me on that day ..i want a very short introduction.. How i am going to start?

Yes, ask yourself, what is the one thing in my work that I am most passionate about? Then, get the introducer to tell a brief story that illustrates that passionate expertise. When you go on stage, then, be ready to talk about a related subject, since you will now appear to be expert in that area, thanks to the intro.

The same person who does the intro should do the thanks.

Hi, Aisha – each introduction is different — that’s the whole point of them. For a basic outline, answer the following questions: (1) Who is the person (what have they accomplished that’s relevant to this audience?); (2) What is their area of expertise (that is relevant to the audience?); (3) why is the topic (and the speaker) important right now?. Always end with the speaker’s name.

Hi Dr. Nick,

I have been told to introduce a few couple of Physicians at a Conference. It is a medical conference and the audience are also physicians. I have been given the CV of speakers and I need to highlight their expertise, experience and accomplishments.

Any Tips, Please?

1. Don’t read the CV. Just give highlights in the form of a story relevant to the audience. 2. Ask the speakers for a human detail or story or two. 3. Tell the audience why this speaker is important to this audience today.

Good morning Mr. Morgan; Can this introduction be used for a sermon introduction as well? How can I include their character and love to teach and share ministry into this introduction ? I am new at this and really want to do a good job. The topic is on family Reunion and this person is a minister in the family.

Hi, Trina — yes, you certainly can use the general structure here for a sermon introduction. You would include the details you mention under the heading of “why this person,” because the character, love to teach, and share ministry are presumably all good reasons for this person to speak. Hope that helps.

Hi, Prithak — If I understand your question, it’s how to end each introduction? You should always end with the person’s name, as a trigger for the applause: “Please welcome James Blunt!” Don’t vary that formula. The variation comes in what you say about the person before the ending of each introduction.

50+ different ways to say welcome to your guests

By:  Susan Dugdale

The challenge of a welcome speech is to find alternate ways to express yourself sincerely without resorting to a string of undifferentiated "same-old, same-old" words and phrases that have become meaningless through overuse to greet your guests with.

And there's an additional question to answer. Is the event formal or informal? Your response will guide the language choices you make.

What's on this page?

  • help to decide whether you need formal or informal language
  • examples of informal and formal welcome speech openings
  • 50+ different ways to say welcome
  • 28 example sentences

Do you need to use formal or informal language?

Is the welcome speech you're preparing formal or informal?

There are major differences. The words you use in an informal speech will be entirely out of place in a formal one. You need to know what is right for the occasion if you want your speech to be a success.

The video below explains the difference and provides six example speech openings to illustrate: three formal and three informal.

How to avoid repetition making your speech boring!

Repetition of a familiar word is easy to do and totally understandable.

Sometimes we can't find the words we want, and we get stuck in a vocabulary rut, using the same phrase or word over and over, and over again, trying to make it cover multiple and/or different situations.

Image: retro woman giving a welcome speech, and repeating the word "welcome" a lot. Text: Repetition can be very boring! Text in s

And yet we know, words are just like clothes. One size does does not fit all.

What's the solution?

Here's three suggestions to individualize or tailor your words to fit your event a little better. And they'll be more interesting for the audience to listen to!

With care you'll find most will adapt either formal or informal use.

1. Add an adjective to the word welcome

Try working in an adjective to describe the quality of your welcome more fully.

I've provided an example sentence or two alongside each adjective to show how it could be used in context.

I know some examples are much more successful, (smooth to say and read), than others.

Some, quite frankly, clunk a little. (I say this with a wry smile ☺!)

If you decide to use the feature word in those that do, perhaps you'll find a way to use it more eloquently!

What sort of welcome are you offering?

It could be a(n):

  • warm  welcome " Luckily the weather is on our side today! The sun and I are pleased to offer you a warm welcome."
  • hearty  welcome  "Here's a hearty welcome, big and warm enough to encompass you all! To say we are thrilled to see you is an understatement."
  • cheerful  welcome "It's my pleasure to extend a cheerful welcome to you all! Your presence makes us very happy."
  • cordial  welcome "Fellow members, please join me in giving our guests the most cordial of welcomes."
  • sociable  welcome "Let's hear it for a sociable welcome! On the count of three, turn to your neighbor and say 'hello'. There are no strangers here, only  friends we are yet to meet."
  • genial  welcome "It's my pleasant duty to bid you all a genial welcome."
  • convivial  welcome "On behalf of my colleagues, I wish you all a convivial welcome. We are going to have a merry and enjoyable time together."
  • agreeable  welcome "The flags are flying. The balloons are ready for release. It's a great day, one we've been planning and waiting for. I'm sure you'll concur, this is an agreeable welcome."
  • pleasing  welcome "It's gratifying to look around and see so many familiar faces. That's a pleasing welcome to what I know is a going to be a great  conference ... "

Or maybe it's a(n):

  • glad  welcome "It's a glad welcome we bring to you this morning, filled with the desires, hopes and dreams we all share."
  • hospitable  welcome "We're delighted to offer the most hospitable welcome we can."
  • amiable  welcome "Dear guests, look around you! An amiable welcome full of friendship is yours."
  • gracious  welcome "Our desire is to extend a gracious and inclusive welcome to all of you. For now let's put aside our differences and instead celebrate what brings us together!"

What about a(n):

Image -young retro salesman. Text: What sort of welcome words do you want? We've got cheerful, hearty, warm (the classic) and delighted.

Then there's a:

  • pleasant  welcome "You know what's great about these events? You are always assured of a pleasant welcome. This is feel-good central and we aim ..."
  • companionable  welcome "Looking around I can see many familiar faces - peers, past and present colleagues. What a companionable welcome! It's great to see you all here ..."
  • grateful  welcome "Many of you have made a huge effort to join us today. On behalf of us all, we are deeply appreciative and offer you our most grateful welcome."
  • friendly  welcome "Today is the day we begin to learn to look through the eyes of others; to find out and experience what the world is like for them. It is also the day we grow bigger than our differences and offer to everyone regardless of historical rights and wrongs, a friendly welcome, an outstretched hand."

Perhaps a(n):

  • appreciative  welcome "Wow, what a gathering we have here tonight. We've got dignitaries, celebrities, fans, and organizational members all brought together for one cause. Ours. Here's an appreciative welcome to you all."
  • superb  welcome "Ladies and gentlemen, the room is ready. The tables are set. The band is playing our theme song. And the waiting staff are preparing to take your orders. This is a superb welcome, fit for royalty, and that's what you are to us."
  • delighted  welcome "To our special guests; look around. See the smiles of everyone's faces? We are truly delighted to welcome you here today."
  • favored  welcome "Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we have stars in the sky, and on stage. We are favored to welcome some the brightest the world has seen."
  • honored  welcome "I look around the stage and am in awe with the collected expertise gathered here. We are deeply honored to welcome you."
  • big  welcome "Here's to a big welcome for our guests; Lady Amelia Thistledown and Sir Roger Godfrey!"
  • huge  welcome "Ladies and gentlemen, please give a huge welcome to ..."
  • rapturous  welcome "Do you hear the applause? The audience joins me in a rapturous welcome! We are thrilled to have you with us today."

2. What about the guests you want to welcome?

Think about the guests you want to welcome as part of your speech. What sort of guests are they?  Is there a word, or two, you could use to describe them more fully?

Accurate descriptions of the people coming to the event, either as especially invited guests, or as members of the audience, helps build credibility and trust.

The care you take to find the right words is an excellent investment for everybody involved.

Image: hand drawn crowd figures. Text: Honor your guests by using words to help them stand out from the crowd.

Could your guests be better described as:

  • esteemed  guests?
  • brilliant  guests?
  • celebrated  guests?
  • dear  guests?
  • admired  guests?
  • acclaimed  guests?
  • cherished  guests?
  • respected  guests?
  • revered  guests?
  • wonderful  guests?
  • popular  guests?
  • much-loved  guests?
  • famous  guests?
  • expert  guests?
  • distinguished  guests?
  • honored  guests?
  • valued  guests?
  • appreciated  guests?
  • remarkable  guests?
  • renowned  guests?
  • knowledgeable  guests?
  • treasured  guests?

3. What about the word "guests"?

Image: cross section of an audience. Text: Who, exactly, is your audience? Are these people your peers, colleagues, customers, work mates ...

Who are you talking to? Yes, everybody in the audience is a guest to your event but what could they be more accurately called?

Are these people your:

  • colleagues?
  • associates?
  • classmates?
  • co-collaborators?
  • fellow-travelers, nurses, teachers ... ? (insert the appropriate descriptor)
  • affiliates?
  • conspirators?
  • companions?

And lastly, have fun experimenting!

Do try mixing and matching your words and phrases to fit the occasion. After all there are more flavors to "welcome" than vanilla!

Tips on Giving Welcome Speeches

Anyone who has ever given a speech would most likely understand stage fright can be a big issue. But there is a way to stop that as well as to present a good welcome speech like a pro. Here are some tips to help you succeed in delivering that carefully written welcome speech.

  • Practice makes perfect – We all heard the old saying “practice makes perfect”. This can be true for this type of situation. Doing some practice before you deliver your speech can actually help you. Start off by asking a friend to help you. Let your friend give you some feedback and go from there.
  • Breathe – Once you are done practicing and you are about to deliver your speech, breathe. Without getting enough oxygen, you may feel dizzy and most likely would you feel stage fright. People get nervous when they feel they are out of breath, so breathe in and out before you go and say that welcome speech.
  • Voice – Your voice should reach the last row of the audience. Make sure you can be heard clearly and correctly. We would not want any misunderstandings when presenting the speech.
  • Maintain eye contact – If you want to draw attention from your listeners, maintain eye contact at all times. Avoiding eye contact would make your listeners believe that you are not interested in getting their attention. In addition to that, it is also polite to look at the audience when you are speaking.

Why are welcome speeches necessary?

A welcome speech is necessary as this is a way of welcoming people who attended the ceremony. This is also a way of introducing the speaker, the agenda and the people in charge of the event. Without all this, the listeners or the audience would feel lost. Think of a welcome speech as a guide for the people who are attending the event.

Do all events need a welcome speech?

Most events like wedding receptions , lectures, awards ceremonies, and church events often use welcome speeches before starting the actual event.

Is it expected to mix a thank you speech with a welcome speech?

You may also add a thank you speech alongside your welcome speech. As it is usually mixed or closed together. But a welcome speech’s use is to draw your audience attention in. While a thank you speech is to simply show your gratitude towards them for attending the event.

Writing and presenting a welcome speech can be both terrifying and exciting. Terrifying if you have bouts of stage fright. Exciting since you also feel the importance of introducing a speaker to a good seminar. Presenting a welcome speech can be a bit scary but if you follow the tips given, you will do just fine. Remember to simply practice before you get up on stage and talk.

5 key elements of a church welcome speech, 10 church welcome speeches you can use, 4 great church welcome speech examples.

A church welcome speech is a brief address delivered at the beginning of a church service, usually by a church MC or worship leader..

Whether your church is big or small, black or white, Baptist or Pentecostal, in the US or the Philippines, a great church welcome speech has 5 key elements.

Let’s walk through each one 👇

1. A Simple Introduction

The key here is to keep it short and sweet, yet warm and friendly.

As they say: less is more.

Especially when it comes to opening your church service. Say what needs to be said and move on.

A good church welcome officially starts the service and gets everyone focused, so give a quick introduction of yourself and the church.

This can be as simple as “Good morning and welcome to Grace Church. I’m Abi and it’s great to see you all here.”

2. Set Expectations

When done right, the person opening the service can help raise the faith level of your church right before entering into worship.

Help set the tone by giving everyone a general idea of what’s going to happen. You don’t need to give a minute-by-minute breakdown of the service, just a quick overview is good enough.

This is a good place to mention your current sermon series  or special guest speaker if you have one.

3. Give Useful Information

Give everyone the practical information they need to relax and feel comfortable.

Gently remind people to put phones on silent, tell them they’ll be coffee afterwards and point out where the Kid’s Church and bathrooms are.

4. Welcome Visitors

It’s good to take a moment to specifically welcome first-time guests and let them know you’re glad they’re here.

Launching your service this way is not only a great way to make church visitors feel at home :

It also helps outward-focused culture and sends a clear message to members that this is a safe place they can invite their family and friends to.

If your church has visitor connect cards (so you can do follow-up later) ask them to fill them out and drop them in the offering basket as it passes by.

5. End With What’s Next

Now you’ve officially opened up the meeting, it’s time to transition into the next part of the service.

If you’re going into worship, have everyone stand. Lead everyone in a faith-filled prayer welcoming the Holy Spirit to move in hearts and minds.

If it’s the sermon next, thank God for His Word, pray that their hearts and minds be ready to receive what God has to say to his people, then have everyone clap their hands to welcome the preacher.

I wanted to end things here with some real-life examples and give you my thoughts on what I think works well.

It’s good to keep your speeches becoming predictable by mixing them up a little.

Here are 4 different styles and approaches you could take in your church:

1. The Comedic Approach

What a clever and funny way to open the service! Almost rapping, he does a great job of welcoming visitors, having them stand while the church applauds.

I also like how he sets expectations, saying “Today is Youth Sunday” .

YouTube video

2. The Evangelistic Approach

This wonderful woman has a really warm but powerful way of welcoming people to the church.

She starts off by getting people ready to worship and hear the Word. This can be a powerful way to set the tone for the rest of the service.

She introduces the church pastors and even points them out individually. This might work well depending on your style of church.

I was surprised to hear her nearly do an alter call saying “Don’t leave here today without knowing Jesus.”

She’s passionate and friendly, everything you want in someone giving the welcome at your church.

YouTube video

3. The Helpful Approach

This welcome takes less than a minute but works really well and is a great example of how we can make our church services more welcoming for guests.

He leads by introducing himself saying he’s part of the hospitality team and makes himself available if he can help them in any way, right before asking first-time visitors to stand up and thank them for coming.

YouTube video

4. The Faith-Fuelled Approach

This next one is short and sweet, but it’s a masterclass on how to use your church welcome speech to raise the faith level through the roof!

You made a good point that having a strong welcome speech that has emphasis on evangelization can help a lot in making the people ready for worship. I’m planning to get church worship services for my neighborhood association that will be celebrating its foundation day on December. If the quarantine has been lifted by then, I think having a thanksgiving Mass would be ideal for that gathering.

Very helpful, glad I found your site.

All these students we witness today, receiving honors for their talents, will grow up to be responsible citizens of tomorrow. May they grow up to make us proud and achieve the highest human values.

I feel proud to be a part of such an elite institution where we are taught by great teachers whose teaching goes beyond the classroom. Also, they will be thanked for organizing such a huge function. We all have assembled here today to motivate and cherish our young minds. Apart from that, this is a great occasion to welcome our Chief Guest of today”.

She is working towards connecting young minds to strive toward success and achievement. We are grateful to him for accepting our invitation and becoming a chief guest of today’s event.

“We all have gathered here today during a Fresher’s party. Welcoming people is part of Indian culture, followed for centuries. We maintain this custom and welcome the fresh faces in the college with a fresher’s party today.

I thank all my teachers and everyone who gave me this opportunity to welcome all my freshers today. It’s a moment of great pleasure for me to welcome you all.

University life will give you much more than just a degree – get ready for all the adventure!

My dear friends, studying in our institution is pure joy. The professors, students, and other staff members are the epitome of compassion, and we are quite sure you will be perplexed by their sagacity.

All in all, I would like to say that you have made an absolutely secure decision to be a part of this institution. Our college welcomes all the students joining us today. I hope all of you will operate along with the values of the college and magnify its reputation at every go of life.

Welcome Speech for a Farewell Party

“I welcome you all on this occasion of the farewell party, for which we have assembled here today.

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” Semisonic

First, I would like to thank everyone who gave me this opportunity to welcome all my seniors and teachers on this memorable occasion.

School life is undoubtedly the best phase of life for everyone. Our parents, teachers, and friends all made this phase of life so memorable for us. We learned so many things from our inspiring teachers, made mistakes, made memories with friends, and whatnot. It was a long journey in itself.

Today marks the end of this school life, a life of sweet and bitter moments to cherish all our lives. We do feel a touch of sadness, but it is the nature of life to move forward. So, today, we will celebrate this moment with our beloved teachers and friends to bid a good farewell to all who have to leave now, with a smiling face.”

Welcome Speech for College Function

Good Morning to all!

“Honourable Chief Guest Mr. XYZ, Principal Sir Dr. ABC, Staff Members, and all the students present here. I welcome you all to the annual function of our esteemed college.

My name is Lakshita Kumar. I am a B.Sc. student and the secretary of cultural programs organized under our college’s authority.

I feel extremely proud to announce that our elite college has completed 25 years and we all have gathered today to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the same. Behind huge success over the years are the dedicated teachers, motivated students, and helpful staff who give their best to make the college achieve great heights of success.

Also, It is a great honour for me to pronounce that today we are joined by a lady who hardly needs an introduction. She is well known for her work in educating poor children. Besides, he is a published and extensively read contemporary world author. (the title of his book) is one of her treasures that has gained a huge international acknowledgment.

Moreover, she is extremely loved and respected by her readers, including the country’s youth population, whom she has influenced the most with her writing. That said, let us call upon none other than Miss/ Mrs. (name of the chief guest).”

Welcome Speech for Teachers Day

Respected Principal, Sir, Teachers, and dear students!

“We welcome you all today to celebrate this auspicious occasion of Teacher’s Day. We celebrate Teacher’s day every year on 5 September to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

“Those who educate children well are more to be honoured than parents, for these only gave life, those the art of living well.”  Aristotle

This quotation cannot be more true! Teachers are parents to children when needed. They light us up and lead us through the pathway of life. They seek nothing but respect in return for their persistent efforts to give their best.

Teachers are our ideals. They inspire us each day and make us strive towards success. They equip us with the power of knowledge and propel us with endless wisdom to become better future citizens.

On that note, I would like to invite our Principal mam on the stage and deliver her thoughts on the day”.

Welcome Speech for Children’s Day

Good Morning Everyone!

“We welcome all the students as we celebrate Children’s Day today.

“There are no seven wonders of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million.” Walt Streightiff

It is true the imagination of a child is incomparable. Children are a creation of God, and their smile is irresistible not to make us smile alone. Their innocence is overwhelming.

We celebrate Children’s Day every year on 14th November in memory of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, a great admirer of children. We celebrate this day on his birth anniversary.

School is a second home for children, and teachers are equivalent to the parents when students need them the most. This day is celebrated with many events, which cannot be possible without the contribution of our lovely teachers.

Thanking you all, I would like to start the day’s events without further delay”.

Welcome Speech for Seminar

Seminars are organized in educational institutions and different organisations during which various issues of significance are hotly debated. In fact, free expression of views or right to dissent is an integral part of democracy in India. Seminar delegates are required to deliver speeches in keeping with the respective occasion. Here we have provided you five seminar speeches. You can select and use any of the welcome speech for seminar according to the event organized at your institution:

Seminar Welcome Speech

Welcome speech for a seminar in office.

Honourable Chief Executive Officer, Honourable Vice President and Board of Directors, Respected Members of Information Technology Department, Dear Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It gives me immense pleasure in welcoming all of you to the 5 th annual seminar of the ——— Food Ltd. Established in 2010, the company today has reached the heights of great success. Our company was established with a vision to serve the society with the production of quality processed food and beverages. We focus more on the middle and low income group who want to consume quality products within a limited budget. Our target audiences are the locals of this place as well as business people who operate within a range of 50 kilometres.

But seeing the success of our company and the popularity of our products, the management has decided to expand the area of business. Now we want to target the high income group people as well as increase the range of our business operations to other states too and subsequently to other countries. After an in-depth brainstorming session and discussion amongst the management and all other relevant stakeholders, it has been decided that the organisation will adopt digitalisation as a means of promoting itself amongst the people, apart from other traditional means.

Digitalisation is one of the greatest means of transforming the society in the present era. It directs the virtual transformation of almost every component of our life today; the style of working, the means of living, the way of communication, building knowledge, doing business, etc. Digitalisation influences our welfare, democracy, healthcare, environment and society overall.

It won’t be incorrect to say that digitalisation is revolutionary and has majorly changed the face of promotion and marketing too. Digitalisation is the greatest channel of globalisation as it connects people worldwide within fractions of seconds. Thus, it will certainly help our company in meeting its objectives too. With the advent of 2017, we plan to enhance our marketing scope to some other Asian countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and Philippines.

Having said this, we can’t ignore the fact that digitalisation has its own challenges and shortcomings too. Some of the challenges which we may face today are reaching out to those people who don’t have access to internet or who live in remote areas. After devoting a careful thought to this problem, the management committee has come up with different promotion plans to reach out to those people. Our objective is to bring the benefits of our quality products to the maximum people and thus we have engaged one of the best marketing teams to promote our brand and services to the countries discussed above.

But one drawback of the digitalisation is the privacy breach. Today, digitalisation requires proficient handling of problems relating to security and privacy.

This seminar has been organised to discuss all these and many more issues which may occur during the further development and promotion of our brand and services. Well-known experts, researchers and managers from the industries and society have been invited to present their views and discuss the opportunities, threat, strengths and weaknesses of the subject.

I hope you have an engaging and enriching session ahead.

Welcome Speech for Seminar in College

Good Morning to one & all present,

Respected ———————–, Director of ————— University, Principal Madam, Professor ——————, Presiding Officer of IIT, distinguished guests, my dear students and ladies & gentlemen.

Today we all have gathered here to discuss about a very important topic i.e. “Women Rights & the Gender Justice”, which is the most vehemently discussed issue with significant implications for the future of women.

It is a bitter reality that the women have been ill treated in society for ages with India being no acceptance. The irony lies in the fact for our country that women are worshipped in the form of Shakti whereas in reality she is just treated as a commodity and subjected to inhuman treatment. She is discriminated at two levels: The first being women and secondly, having lack of economic independence.

The issue of gender justice is nowadays being raised by the activists and the academics because of the women’s increasing demand for equality. But still they have to face a lot of discrimination. Actually, this problem is not confined to India, but women in European countries too face harassment & unfair treatment.

Gradually, women have been coming forward and playing their roles in diverse fields such as banking, finance, marketing, civil services, aviation and even armed forces. Perhaps, that may be the reason why the Government of India, has launched a series of initiatives to raise awareness about women’s rights through mass media campaigns, seminars, training programmes and workshops etc to improve the lot of women in the country.

Against this backdrop, we have assembled here to know more about the topic with many eminent speakers lined up for today’s seminar. With this brief background, I would welcome our Chief Guest Mr. —————–, Director of —– University for sharing his views on this pertinent subject. I want to also welcome our participants who have come up here to ——- College from all across the country to present their views on the very topic.

I would, on the behalf of our College, again thank you ——————-for accepting our invitation and would like to extend my gratitude towards our Principal Madam for encouraging us to conduct a seminar like this today. I am again thankful to you Madam, for your kind support, suggestions and guidance given to us, as and when required.

I feel honoured to welcome all the parents & my fellow colleagues for taking a keen part in this important programme.

I am sure that you all will feel enriched with knowledge after completion of this event. I welcome you all once again to the Seminar and hope that you all will have a great time ahead.

Thank You All!

Welcome Speech for Science Seminar

Hon’ble Chief Guest, Hon’ble Head of the Department, Respected Researchers, Respected Senior Doctors, Dear Colleague Doctors, Dear Interns, Ladies & Gentlemen,

We have gathered here to discuss the scope of Radiology in treating various injuries and diseases in our Hospital – ‘Health & Care for you’. I am highly honoured to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Hospital and Head of Department, to welcome all of you today to this one-day Seminar.

We have amongst us several distinguished personalities who are highly qualified and possess vast knowledge and experience in the field of radiology. Our Hospital ‘Health & Care for you’ was established in the year 2000 with an objective to help patients suffering from abdominal cancer across India. Our mission is to root out the cause of cancer and treat the critical patients whose chance of survival is minimal. We have been highly successful so far and by the year 2015, we got pretty good exposure in foreign countries too which led us to open branches in Saudi Arabia and Singapore.

We have highly qualified and eminent doctors who are more like guardians to the patients, which is one of the core reasons why the patients recover soon. The hospital was established with a social cause and thus 40% of the funds get contributed towards treating the poor and needy people.

We have gathered here to discuss the scope of radiology in treating cancer. Our hospital uses and employs several methodologies in detecting the cause of cancer and subsequently treating the same, but technology has made several advancements in the field of medical science. Radiology is one of such technologies which we are going to discuss in detail today in this seminar.

Radiology employs imaging technologies like Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), X-ray radiography, Nuclear Medicine, Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasound and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) to observe within the body of the human being in order to detect diseases and abnormalities and subsequently treat the same. A further analysis exhibited that a radiographer is a health professional who is university-trained and works with progressive technology to produce CT Scan, X-rays, MRI Scans and several other medical images to support clinical radiologists and doctors identify, observe or treat the injury and illness of patients.

We will also discuss the scope of other modern technologies which have brought a revolution in the field of medical field. Having said this, I would like to reiterate that science has no bar. It has endless scope and opportunities. Like you all know, the mission of our hospital is to treat maximum patients with positive result; with the same objective, we have arranged this seminar and invited several dignified personalities from the field of Research & Development, Radiology Department, Senior Medical Doctors, Cancer Specialists and Chemotherapists. We would request them to share their experience and expertise which would help us in making our hospital more prominent and renowned worldwide.

I hope you all find this seminar highly engaging, fruitful and beneficial for your future venture.

Welcome Speech for School Seminar

Hon’ble Chief Guest, Respected Principal, Respected Vice Principal, Respected Board Members, Dear Staff, Dear Students, Ladies and Gentlemen!

It gives me immense pleasure to extend a very warm welcome to all of you present here on behalf of the entire school council. I would also like to express our gratitude to our esteemed judges who have accepted our invitation to preside over this School Seminar on Personal Development.

St. Mary’s High School, established in the year of 1967 has completed 50 glorious years in providing quality education as well as exposure to its students in different fields. It is extremely gratifying that the school has reached great heights and realized its goals and objectives. The school conducts seminar every year for the students to gain knowledge and actively engage in the school’s activities. Each and every topic chosen is in the best interest of the students of this school. It is also made sure that the topics are engrossing and well-liked by the participants. Last year, the seminar was based on ‘’Accent Improvement’’ which has helped a lot of students in acquiring a finer accent in English language. The purpose of the seminar was to make our students as well as the staff, speak English more smoothly and accurately and to emphasize the importance of linking, stress, pausing and pitch while speaking.

Personal Development, this year’s topic, too will help the students to gain an understanding of life-changing skills and the focus would be mainly on the critical aspects like goal setting, improved confidence, leadership development, effective communication and life coaching. Like every year, faculties from different schools and professional bodies are called upon to communicate their ideas, views and knowledge on the subject matter. But today’s seminar is going to be somewhat different than the previous ones, as a private counselling session will also be conducted thereafter for the interested candidates.

Personal Development is essential for professionals and students who desire to achieve brilliance in their respective fields. Through this seminar, the students will be able to identify their weak spots that require improvement as well as the usual changes required in their living style. Apart from the personal development skills, students will also be taught on how to improve their social skills.

The agenda of the seminar will include debates, viewpoints of different experts and motivation through real life examples. The school will ensure to display all the key details on its official website for quick and easy access to all the significant aspects of the seminar.

I expect that the seminar will be productive and the next few hours will be enjoyable and fruitful to you all.

Thank you very much!

Welcome Speech for Class Seminar

Hon’ble Chief Guest, Hon’ble Vice President, Respected Principal, Respected teachers, Respected Heads of departments, Dear staff colleagues, Dear students and Ladies and Gentlemen!

It’s indeed a matter of great honour for me to welcome all of you today, on behalf of the entire college, to the 3 rd annual seminar of the ——— College of Arts. The college was established in the year 2011 with a vision to create future leaders of tomorrow by imparting education, knowledge and skills. The objective of the college was not only to impart theoretical education, but also to nurture our students and keep them rooted to the social culture and ethics. It’s highly thrilling to share that the college has reached the heights of success and achieved its goal to a large extent.

To make the subject interesting, we have started conducting the annual seminar since 2015. We keep fresh and emerging topics every year to keep the students interested and engaged; motivate them to participate warmly and discuss and share their thoughts and opinions. Last year the topic was ‘Internet Security’ and it was a great success. Since internet has become the necessity of almost every individual today especially the youth generation, it’s important that the security measures are also adopted while using Internet in order to save oneself from unseen danger due to the security breach.

This year the topic we have chosen is the ‘Social Cause’. You must be aware that our college has partnered with two Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) working for the poor and deprived students and facilitate studies, education and means of living to those. In this one-day Seminar, we will discuss the importance of social cause, its impact on our college and society and how and why should our students contribute to the larger social cause.

Like every year, we have invited the subject matter experts and some common people who would share their views, experience, expertise and thoughts on the topic. The youth is the future of the nation and it is the responsibility of the college to create a better human being along with creating a good professional.

The seminar has been divided into certain segments like debates and discussions, theoretical views, facts and figures followed by the practical assignment which need to be accomplished by the next year. Even though working for the betterment of the society is one’s individual choice, but we highly encourage our students and staff to vigorously participate in the activities that promote social cause. Philanthropic activities not only bring accolades and reputation to the college but also boost the morale and consciousness of participants.

We are extremely hopeful that this seminar is also going to be a great success like every other year and we request for your support in making it a memorable and successful event.
