Essay on Environmental Pollution (1000 Words)

Mixing of contaminants into the natural environment, which causes an adverse change in the environment, is known as environmental pollution.

Environmental pollution can take the shape of chemical substances or energy, like noise, heat, or light. Pollutants, the components of Pollution, are often either foreign substances/energies or present contaminants. Pollution is usually classed as the beginning or non-point source pollution.

In 2015, Pollution killed 9 million people within the world. Significant sorts of environmental Pollution include Pollution, light pollution, littering, sound Pollution, plastic Pollution, soil contamination, radioactive contamination, Pollution, visual Pollution, Pollution.

History of Pollution

Air pollution has always accompanied civilizations and has been a significant lead in environmental Pollution.

Pollution started from prehistoric times when man created the primary fires, “soot” was found on ceilings of ancient caves provides ample evidence of the high levels of air pollution was created because of inadequate ventilation of open fires.”

The creation of metal forging has played a crucial turning point in creating severe air pollution levels outside the houses. Core samples of glaciers in Greenland show increases in Pollution related to Greek, Roman, and Chinese metal production.

What Are Sources of Pollution?

The burning of coal and wood, the presence of many horses in concentrated areas, made the cities the first sources of Pollution. The economic Revolution brought an infusion of untreated chemicals and wastes into local streams that served because of the water system.

The burning of sea-coal was banned in London by King Edward I of England after its smoke became a problem; the fuel was so prevalent in England that this earliest of names for it had been gained because it might be carted far away from some shores by the wheelbarrow.

It was the economic Revolution that gave birth to environmental Pollution as we all know it today. London also recorded one among the sooner extreme cases of water quality problems with the excellent Stink on the Thames of 1858, which led to the construction of the London sewerage system soon afterward.

Pollution issues escalated as an increase far exceeded the viability of neighborhoods to handle their waste problem. The reformers claimed the demand for sewer systems and clean water.

The large quantities of coal were consumed by the emerging factories giving rise to unprecedented Pollution. This led to an enormous volume of chemical discharge, which added to the growing load of untreated wastes — the first two American cities Chicago and Cincinnati to enact laws ensuring cleaner air in 1881.

In the early twentieth century, environmental Pollution became a severe issue as progressive reformers took effect with Pollution caused by coal burning. Pollution caused by inadequate sanitation and street pollution caused by the three million horses who worked in American cities in the 1900s generated vast quantities of urine and manure.

Nuclear weapons continued to be tested within the conflict, especially within the earlier stages of their development. Though extreme care has been taken but still disastrous, incidents like those at Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima pose a lingering specter of public mistrust.

Worldwide publicity has been intense in those disasters. Widespread support for ban treaties has ended most nuclear testing within the atmosphere.

Pollution introduced by light in the dark is becoming a global problem, more severe in urban centers, but also contaminating vast territories, distant from towns. Increasing evidence of global and local Pollution and public information available over time has given rise to public awareness, which has to lead to the environmental movement to limit the human impact on the environment.

What Are the Major Types of Environmental Pollution?

1. air pollution.

The dangerous Pollution is defined as the release of poisonous substance because of the results of freedom of radioactive materials into the environment during nuclear explosions and testing of atomic weapons, the weapon of mass destruction production and decommissioning mining of radioactive ores, handling and disposal of radioactive material, and accidents at nuclear power plants.

Effects of Environmental Pollution

There are adverse effects of Pollution on all living organisms on Earth. Ozone pollution can cause respiratory illness, disorder, throat inflammation, pain, and congestion. Pollution causes approximately 14,000 deaths per day, mostly thanks to contamination of beverage by untreated sewage in developing countries.

About 500 million Indians haven’t any access to a correct toilet, over ten million people in India fell ill with waterborne illnesses in 2013, and 1,535 people died, most of them children.

Nearly 500 million Chinese lack access to a safe beverage. A 2010 analysis estimated that 1.2 million people died prematurely annually in China because of Pollution. The top smog levels China has been facing for an extended time can damage to civilians’ bodies and generate uncommon diseases.

The WHO estimated in 2007 that Pollution causes half 1,000,000 deaths per annum in India. Studies have determined uncommon diseases that the number of individuals killed annually within us might be over 50,000.

Environmental Pollution: Causes and Consequences Essay

Environmental pollution is the unwarranted discharge of mass or energy into the planet’s natural resource pools, such as land, air, or water, which detriments the environment’s ecological stability and the health of the living things that inhabit it. There is an intensified health risk and pollution in middle and low-income countries due to the increased use of pesticides, industrialization, the introduction of nitrogen-based fertilizers, forest fires, urbanization, and inadequate waste management (Appannagari, 2017). Air pollution, lead and chemicals exposure, hazardous waste exposure, and inappropriate e-waste disposal all result in unfavorable living conditions, fatal illnesses, and ecosystem destruction. The essay will provide an overview of pollution and proffer solutions to combating pollution for a sustainable environment and health.

In addition to hindering economic development and considerably accelerating climate change, pollution exacerbates poverty and inequality in urban and rural areas. The most pain is always experienced by the poor, who cannot afford to protect themselves against pollution’s harmful effects. The main environmental factor contributing to sickness and early mortality is pollution due to premature deaths resulting from pollution (Appannagari, 2017). Due to the unacceptably high cost to human capital and health, as well as the resulting GDP losses, pollution must be addressed. Through initiatives like reducing black carbon and methane emissions, which are responsible for air pollution and climate change, pollution management can also significantly contribute to climate change mitigation (Appannagari, 2017). Additionally, pollution control can promote competitiveness through, for instance, job growth, increased energy efficiency, better transportation, and sustainable urban and rural development. Below are the various approaches for solutions to health and pollution problems.

First, governments should evaluate pollution as a national and international priority and integrate it into the city and country planning process. Pollution affects the health and well-being of societies and, as such, cannot be solely viewed as an environmental issue (The Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health, 2017). All levels of government should give pollution prevention a high priority, incorporate it into development planning, and tie it to commitments regarding climate change, SDGs, and the prevention of non-communicable diseases. Some options are both affordable and offer good returns on investment.

Secondly, governments should increase funding for pollution control and prioritize it by health impacts. There should be a significant increase in the financing for pollution management in low- and middle-income nations, both from national budgets and international development organizations (The Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health, 2017). The most effective international support for pollution reduction is when it mobilizes additional actions and funding from others. Examples include helping towns and nations that are quickly industrializing concerning technical capacity building, regulatory and enforcement support, and support for direct actions to save lives. Monitoring financing initiatives are necessary to determine their cost-effectiveness and to raise accountability.

Thirdly, organizations should work to build multicultural partnerships for pollution control. Public-private partnerships and interagency cooperation can be powerful tools in creating clean technology and energy sources that will ultimately prevent pollution at its source (The Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health, 2017). Collaborations between ministries that include the ministries of finance, energy, development, agriculture, and transport, as well as the ministries of health and the environment, are crucial in pollution control. Governments should promote monitoring systems that could identify and apportion pollution sources, measure pollution levels, guide enforcement, and assess progress toward goals. The use of new technology in pollution monitoring, such as data mining and satellite images, can boost effectiveness, broaden the monitoring area, and cut costs.

One of the main issues facing the world in the current period is pollution. Natural resources are depleting daily due to car emissions, new technologies, factories, and chemicals added to food. All of these factors seriously harm the world. However, the problems caused by pollution can be prevented by building multicultural partnerships, increasing funding for pollution control, integrating it into the country’s planning process, and adopting new technology for monitoring pollution. Preventing pollution lowers the cost to the environment and the economy.

Agricultural and industrial wastes have contaminated drinking water and land. There is an overall rise in greenhouse gases, global warming and ozone layer depletion.

Essay on Environmental Pollution in 500 Words

Below we have provided Environmental Pollution Essay in English, suitable for class 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.

Environmental pollution occurs when artificial substances are introduced into the environment, which over an extended period of exposure, accumulates in the environment and cause adverse effects. Such harmful substances and products are identified as pollutants. As reported by The Guardian in 2017, pollution had already been responsible for about 9 million deaths worldwide. Other than the loss of human lives, it has also severely affected other plant and animal species.

Types of Environmental Pollution

Based on the type and target of the pollutants, pollution is classified in the following types-

Air Pollution : This type of pollution has existed since prehistoric times, ever since man discovered fire. Greenhouse gases are the leading cause of air pollution according to a report by National Geographic published in 2016. Other than them, volatile free radicals, particulate matter (dust), ammonia and chlorofluorocarbons also play a vital role in spreading air pollution.

Water Pollution : When anthropogenic contaminants and natural phenomena (like algal blooms, eutrophication, etc.) impair the natural bodies of water, the process is called water pollution. It has been the reason for the death of 1.8 million people till 2015. Water pollution can be further divided into surface water, marine and groundwater pollution.

Soil Pollution : Contamination of soil through xenobiotic agents (man-made compounds) leads to soil pollution. Most common of these chemicals include petroleum, heavy metals, lead, synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, and industrial wastes. Toxic material also sometimes seeps through the soil and contaminate groundwater, which leads to water pollution too.

Noise Pollution : Noise pollution is defined as the propagation of sound, which has a harmful impact on human and animal lives. Most common noise pollutants are vehicles, machines, construction sites, loud music, etc. This leads to loss of hearing, hypertension and increased risk of CVDs in humans and anxiety and disorientation in animals.

Radioactive and Thermal Pollution: Nuclear energy is one of the most efficient non-conventional sources of energy. Various nuclear power plants have been set up around the world, but the technology and ideas for effective management of power plant wastes have not developed at the same rate. Radioactive waste disposal is a priority waste management issue as it directly affects humans and flora and fauna of the regions. Inefficient disposal techniques cause radioactive pollution.

Measures to Counter Environmental Pollution

Various nations and governments have recognised that exploitation and brazen use of natural resources has been causing serious damage to the environment and have come together to fight pollution and degradation on national and international levels. The impact of human activity on the environment is calculated by using a mathematical formula- I=P×A×T, where I stands for the human impact on the environment, P denotes population, A signifies affluence and T represents technology. Hence, the three key factors that affect the environmental health are human population, economic growth and application of resource depleting and/or polluting technologies.

Environmental scientists have set the following goals which will be beneficial for the people and the natural systems-

  • Controlling pollution by eliminating pollutants and toxicant from the environment
  • Protecting and preserving the biodiversity and ecological habitats
  • Sustainable use and development of natural resources
  • Putting a check on anthropogenic global warming
  • Finding renewable sources of energy and limiting the use of fossil fuels as a source of energy
  • Establishing a higher number of nature reserves, sanctuaries and protected regions to preserve the ecosystem
  • Find a more efficient, sustainable waste management model to reduce littering.
  • Stabilising and gradually decelerating human population growth.

Environmental Pollution Essay For Students

Environmental pollution is an urgent and concerning issue that casts a dark shadow over the well-being of our planet and all life forms inhabiting it. Environmental pollution is the act of introducing harmful substances and pollutants into the environment., leading to adverse effects on nature and human health. This global problem comes in various forms,There are various types of pollution such as air pollution, water pollution, soil contamination, and noise pollution. Each type has its own causes and can have significant consequences.

Air pollution is one of the most prevalent and alarming types of environmental pollution. It occurs when harmful particles and gases are released into the air from various human activities, including industrial processes, transportation, and burning of fossil fuels. These pollutants can have severe repercussions on human health, causing respiratory problems, cardiovascular diseases, and even premature death. Moreover, air pollution disrupts the balance of nature, affecting wildlife and contributing to climate change and global warming.

Water pollution is another significant concern that poses a severe threat to aquatic life and human populations alike. It arises when harmful substances, such as industrial waste, chemicals, and untreated sewage, find their way into water bodies. This contamination leads to the destruction of marine ecosystems, loss of biodiversity, and the spread of waterborne diseases. Access to clean and safe drinking water becomes scarce, affecting millions of people worldwide and exacerbating social and economic disparities.

Soil contamination is equally worrisome, with detrimental effects on agriculture, human health, and ecosystems. Improper waste disposal, excessive use of pesticides, and industrial activities contribute to soil pollution. Contaminated soil can lead to the accumulation of toxic substances in crops, posing health risks for those consuming them. Furthermore, soil pollution disrupts the natural balance of the environment, threatening the survival of plant and animal species that rely on healthy soil for sustenance.

Noise pollution, though often overlooked, has a significant impact on human well-being and wildlife. It results from excessive noise generated by transportation, construction, industrial facilities, and urbanization. Being exposed to noise pollution for a long time can cause stress, difficulty sleeping, and even hearing loss in humans. Animals, especially those in urban environments, suffer from altered behavior and communication patterns, affecting their survival and reproductive success.

The consequences of environmental pollution are profound and multi-faceted, posing challenges on a global scale. Rising temperatures due to greenhouse gas emissions have led to climate change, with melting ice caps and disruptions in weather patterns. This has severe implications for our planet, including rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and threats to vulnerable ecosystems and species.

To address environmental pollution and mitigate its impact, concerted efforts are required at all levels of society. Governments must enact and enforce stringent regulations to control emissions, promote cleaner technologies, and encourage sustainable practices. Industries need to adopt cleaner production methods and invest in environmentally friendly technologies. Individuals can contribute by adopting eco-friendly habits, such as reducing waste, conserving energy, and using public transportation or carpooling.

Education and awareness play a pivotal role in combating environmental pollution. By fostering a sense of responsibility and environmental consciousness, we can instigate positive change in our communities. Environmental education in schools and awareness campaigns can empower individuals to make informed choices and embrace a sustainable lifestyle.

In conclusion,

Environmental pollution is a grave and urgent challenge that threatens the health and stability of our planet. Its diverse forms, from air and water pollution to soil contamination and noise pollution, have far-reaching consequences for both nature and human populations. To safeguard our future and that of future generations, we must act collectively and decisively to reduce pollution, adopt sustainable practices, and protect the delicate balance of our environment. Only through a united and dedicated effort can we secure a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable world for generations to come.

Environmental Pollution Essay

When it comes to protecting the environment, awareness is the key. As more and more people become aware of the causes, types, and impacts of environmental pollution, they are more likely to take steps to prevent it. Air pollution is created as a result of burning fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas. Water pollution results from industrial activities, such as the dumping of chemicals into rivers and lakes, as well as from agricultural runoff. Land pollution is caused by the misuse of land and improper disposal of waste. The causes of environmental pollution are numerous and varied. Some of the main culprits are industrial activities, burning of fossil fuels, use of pesticides, and deforestation.

Awareness and taking necessary resolving steps is essential when it comes to protecting the environment from the impacts of environmental pollution. By teaching people the importance of taking steps to prevent environmental pollution, we can ensure a brighter future for our planet. We must understand the causes of environmental pollution, the types of pollution, the impact it has on the environment, and how we can prevent it.

Causes | Environmental pollution is the contamination of the environment through the emissions of pollutants including harmful gases, chemicals, and particulate matter. It is caused by human activities such as burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial pollution. These activities have caused global warming, acid rain, and water and air pollution, leading to global environmental degradation.

Types | There are different types of environmental pollution. The most common type is air pollution, which is caused by burning of fuels and other industrial activities. Water pollution is another common type of pollution which is caused by sewage and industrial waste. Soil pollution is caused by overuse of pesticides and other chemicals. Noise pollution is caused by traffic, construction activities, and industrial noise. Light pollution is caused by the emission of artificial light.

Impact | The impact of environmental pollution is far-reaching and devastating. Air pollution can lead to respiratory diseases, while water pollution can contaminate drinking water and cause health issues. Land pollution causes reduction in soil fertility and even destruction of natural habitats for animals. In addition, it can lead to the destruction of ecosystems, which in turn leads to a decrease in biodiversity.

Environmental pollution has serious impacts on both humans and the environment. It affects air quality, water quality, soil fertility, and public health. Poor air quality affects the respiratory system, leading to respiratory illnesses like asthma and bronchitis. Water pollution can lead to the spread of diseases like cholera, typhoid, and dysentery. Soil pollution can reduce crop yields, leading to food insecurity.

Types of Environmental Pollution

Air | Air pollution is the introduction of dangerous compounds into the atmosphere, which has a negative influence on the environment and humanity. Air pollution simply makes the air impure or contaminated. It happens when noxious gases, scents, dust, or fumes are discharged into the air in concentrations that endanger human and animal comfort or health or even kill plant life.

Water | The act of contaminating water bodies, such as rivers, oceans, lakes, streams, aquifers, and groundwater, is known as water pollution. It happens when foreign, dangerous substances—such as chemicals, garbage, or polluted materials are released into bodies of water, either directly or indirectly.

Land | When the quality of the earth's land surfaces in terms of use, landscape, and capacity to support life forms is compromised or destroyed, this is referred to as land pollution. It is frequently brought on by human activity and the misuse of land resources, both directly and indirectly.

Soil | Chemical pollutants can pollute soil or cause it to degrade through activities like mining, clearing vegetation, or topsoil erosion. Typically, it occurs when human activities bring harmful chemicals, substances, or items into the soil.

Noise | Noise pollution is an unpleasant sound or a sound that causes excruciating ear pain. Noise pollution is described as unpleasant and unwanted sound levels that cause significant distress to all living beings. It is measured in decibels (dB).

Factors Responsible For Environmental Pollution

Environmental pollution has a variety of causes. One of the most prominent is the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and gas by power plants, factories and automobiles. This produces large amounts of carbon dioxide, which is a major contributor to global climate change. Other sources of environmental pollution include agricultural practices, such as over-fertilization and the use of pesticides, and industrial processes, such as mining, manufacturing and waste disposal.

What Can We Do

To prevent environmental pollution, we must reduce the emissions of various pollutants. We can do this by switching to renewable sources of energy like solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. We should reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and use more efficient transportation methods. We should also reduce the emissions of harmful industrial chemicals and practise sustainable agriculture. Additionally, we should increase public awareness of environmental pollution and its impacts, and promote eco-friendly lifestyles.

By understanding the causes and effects of environmental pollution, we can work towards preventing it and ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for all. Awarness and knowledge is essential in this regard, as it helps us to become more conscious and informed citizens. It helps us understand the importance of protecting and preserving the environment and make us more responsible citizens.

The world is facing an ever-growing threat from pollution, which if left unchecked will have catastrophic consequences. Education and taking conscious action plan can play a key role in helping to reduce environmental pollution.

What is Environmental Pollution?

The phenomenon of undesirable changes in the surroundings that are harmful to animals and plants, and leads to environmental degradation is known as environmental pollution. These changes can occur because of the solid, liquid or gaseous pollutants. For example, DDT, plastic, and heavy materials take more time to degrade and are known as notable pollutants. For the determination of risk assessment of public health, concentration of pollutants is measured.

Essay on Environmental Pollution – 100 Words

The presence of contaminants in the environment is referred to as pollution. Gases like Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Carbon Monoxide (CO), among others; solid pollutants like plastic, sewage, etc.; and chemicals like fertilisers, as well as those produced as byproducts in manufacturing, transportation, etc., are a few examples of polluting substances.

The immediate result of pollution is that it makes the world’s natural resources useless or toxic to use, as well as leads to the extinction of species and ecological imbalance. To stop more harm from occurring to the earth and its inhabitants due to environmental pollution, it is imperative to take proactive precautions.

Essay on Environmental Pollution – 250 Words

When undesired elements, or pollutants, are present in the environment, it is said to be polluted. The environment is severely harmed by pollution, which poses a direct threat to it. Although the world has begun to understand the importance of addressing pollution if the planet and its biodiversity are to be conserved there is still a long way to go.

Everything that makes up the environment, including the air, water bodies, flora, and wildlife, is impacted by pollution in one way or another. There are four main types of pollution – Air Pollution, Water Pollution, Noise Pollution and Soil or Land Pollution . Additionally, pollution contributes to global issues including acid rain, global warming, and greenhouse gas consequences. A rise in the planet’s average surface temperature is referred to as global warming, and it causes starvation, floods, and droughts.

Environmental pollution has a wide-ranging impact. In addition to the current effects of pollution, a lack of effective pollution prevention measures also imperils the future of various species. The pollution is causing harm at a far faster rate than it can be healed. Reversing the environmental harm we have caused could take generations, and even then, it won’t be simple. It will require tight discipline and commitment to stop pollution.

The best ways feasible are being used by various nations to respond to these catastrophes. More efforts are being launched to raise public awareness about the dangers of pollution and the importance of preserving our ecosystem. Greener lifestyles are gaining popularity; examples include using wind and solar energy, new climate-friendly cars, and energy-efficient lighting.

Essay on Environmental Pollution – 500 Words

Pollution is the term used to describe the entry of pollutants into the environment. Noise, water, and air pollution are only a few of the several types of pollution. There is a direct relationship between the rise of pollution levels and illnesses among people. Therefore, it is important for everyone to be knowledgeable about pollution, its impacts, and effective ways to eliminate it. Our environment needs a balanced combination of all components, just like our body requires a balanced diet. The environment is polluted by any substance that is present above that limit for example rise in the levels of nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causes harm to human health due to poor air quality.

All forms of pollution, whether in the air, water, soil, or noise, have a negative impact on living things. Deadly diseases that are brought on by the contamination of soil, water, air, or sound affect organisms.

Among the most common disorders brought on by air pollution are acute lower respiratory infections in children, ischemic heart disease, stroke, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer. Air pollution is a major contributor to a number of ailments in India, including strokes, bronchitis, heart attacks, lung diseases, cancer, and early mortality from heart disorders. The most pressing issue in the world now is global warming, which is caused by air pollution.

Around the world, poor drinking water quality is the reason behind 50% of child deaths and 80% of illnesses, including more than 50 different diseases. Water pollution causes diarrhoea, skin diseases, malnutrition, and even cancer, as well as other issues that are related to it.

Every day, noise pollution has an effect on millions of people. The most frequent result of this is noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Loud noises have the potential to cause stress, high blood pressure, heart disease, and sleep difficulties. Children in particular are prone to these health issues across the board in terms of age groups. Noise pollution is extremely harmful, and it’s especially deadlier for people with heart issues.

Use of the 3Rs, or reduce, reuse, and recycle, is the first step in reducing pollution. People should use air conditioners less since they generate noxious gases, such as ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons, which will minimise air pollution.

Reducing the number of vehicles on the road will also help to clean up the planet’s air. The more often cars are used, the more dangerous chemicals like sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons that contribute to major air pollution are released into the atmosphere.

Increasing public awareness is a further means of reducing pollution on Earth. Through programmes like the “Go Green” campaign, which urges people to plant more trees and use recyclable materials in their daily lives, awareness can be raised about the significance of eliminating pollution on Earth. The “Earth Hour” is another globally recognised event that calls for everyone to turn off all lights for one hour in order to raise awareness of the significance of reducing electricity usage in order to minimise pollution on Earth.

The government’s obligation to maintain national laws is one way to reduce pollution on Earth. Offenders should be subject to harsh penalties, such as increased fines and longer prison terms, which will force them to reconsider their influence on the environment and serve as a message to those who are not currently involved but who might be in the future.

These effects are mainly caused by human activities that harm the environment in a number of ways. As a result, it is vital that this problem is addressed immediately. We need to recognize the effects of pollution and prevent its harm to our earth, which means we need to prevent these devastating effects. Here, we will look at what pollution is, how it occurs, and what we can do about it.

It is impossible to imagine how much pollution affects one's quality of life. The process occurs in mysterious ways, sometimes unobservable to the naked eye. Despite its enigmatic nature, it is profoundly present in the surrounding environment. Natural gases are present in the air even though you may not see them. Similar to the pollutants that are polluting the air and increasing carbon dioxide levels, pollutants pose a great threat to humans. Global warming is a consequence of increasing levels of carbon dioxide.

Additionally, the water will be polluted due to industrial development, religious practices and other practices leading to a shortage of drinking water. The need for water is essential to our existence. A waste dump that ends up in the soil eventually becomes toxic because of the way it is disposed of. In the future, we will no longer have fertile soil to grow crops on if the rate of land pollution continues. We must take immediate steps to reduce the level of land pollution.

What are the Best Ways to Reduce Pollution?

It is important to take action as soon as possible to prevent or reduce pollution after learning of the harmful effects of pollution. Taking public transportation or carpooling reduces vehicle emissions, hence reducing air pollution. Aside from reducing air and noise pollution, avoiding firecrackers at festivals and celebrations may also reduce air pollution. Recycling is essential to reducing air pollution in general. It pollutes the oceans and land when used plastic ends up in them.

After using these utensils, be sure to reuse them as long as you can, rather than throw them away after using them. As well as encouraging everyone to plant more trees, which absorb harmful gases and clean the air, we need to encourage everyone to plant more trees. At a national level, the government should limit fertilizer use to ensure the nutrient content of the soil. Further, pollution of oceans and rivers must be dealt with by preventing industries from dumping their waste into them.

The bottom line is that all pollutant types are hazardous and have serious consequences. Whether it is a personal initiative or an industry-wide initiative, everyone must take steps to change. It is necessary to join forces now since solving this problem will require a collective effort. Additionally, such human actions are causing the deaths of innocent animals. We must all take a stand and speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves in order to protect this planet from pollution.

Short Essay

The pollution problem in the world today is one of the most disturbing. We will talk about the extent of these effects and their harmful effects in this short paper on pollution and its effects in English. In this essay on pollution and its effects, the author aims to eradicate pollution from the earth. In this essay on pollution and its causes, we will discuss our responsibilities as citizens. The next generation has to learn how to fight pollution with proper equipment while reducing waste.

Planting trees and taking care of our environment will help us prevent pollution levels from rising. The oil spills in the sea can be checked, and industrial wastes dumping into the water can be stopped to prevent pollution of the marine environment. To combat pollution and how serious its effects can be, we should not only take steps but also teach our children to do the same.

What is environmental pollution.

The net totality of all the damage caused on the environment due to a host of factors such as air pollution , water pollution , soil pollution etc. leave a combined and disastrous effect on the environment we live and in short, it can be termed as environmental pollution.

We are aware of the different kinds of pollution that exist in our nature- air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, land pollution and many more.

In reality these different types of pollutants from various polluting agents work in combination to create a deadly effect on the environment.

Most of the times, this effect is irreversible and measures that we take to rectify individual pollution effects can subside contamination to a certain amount, but cannot avoid it totally.

Environmental pollution is the greatest threat to this ultra modern century. Environmental pollution has shot up at an alarming zenith that today it has become one of the greatest concerns of the developed and developing countries.

Let us explore how and from where the coinage of the term ‘environmental pollution’ came up from.

When the Industrial Revolution hit Europe in the nineteenth century, the whole world hailed the advent of a glorious, advanced and prosperous new era.

It was a significant brave new world—a world of steam engines and motor cars.

Then followed the aeroplane, the spacecraft and finally the computers performing wonders for man like the earth echoed with the invigorating sound of factory siren and the roar of sophisticated machinery, knowing little about the havoc it could play due to this attack on nature. Large industrial units flourished in places of sylvan retreats.

Causes of environmental pollution

Environmental pollution is caused by not just one, but there are a whole lot of contributing factors that have been adding in numbers day by day, minute by minute.

The poisonous smoke from factories and industries take away the natural and fresh air present in the atmosphere and replace it with toxic gases.

These toxic gases create smog and a thick blanket of contaminated gases envelope the atmosphere.

If we were to talk about chemical effluents from industries, we know that the thought of a chemical in our kitchen sink can ring an alarm bell in our mind.

The easy discharge of sewage plus contaminants into river waters has brought down of quality of water by a great level and caused disastrous effects on the rivers and aquatic life of our planet.

A great imbalance between land, atmosphere and water is created on account of this.

Soil is enriched with fertilizers and pesticides, in an aim to get good profits from agricultural produce. The natural qualities of the soil are long forgotten due to this.

Soil has been eroded from the top surfaces of forests. Man started to exploit forests for his selfish needs. So, he started cutting down trees and used the timber to manufacture a whole lot of wooden products.

He prepared furniture, artifacts, extracted rubber etc. This happened on a small scale at the beginning of industrialization.

When it hit its peak, man started cutting down trees unreasonably and cited industrialization and prosperity as the good reasons.

When large numbers of forests were cut down in this manner, they gave way to barren lands. Such lands were not even suitable for cultivation of crops.

The soil was so loose in deforested regions that they could be easily washed away by rain water. None of the nutrients could be provided or the soil could not be held tight by its constituent elements.

So, the only option was to invade them further and convert these forest lands into urban sites. Sites gave way to skyscrapers and in short, built concrete jungles.

The demands of drinking water for these tall skyscraper dwellers are so huge that most of the taps run dry and empty during summer seasons in big cities. The day is not far off when we would be paying the price of gold for the price of water.

In short, rapid urbanization, commercialization, together with unchecked industrialization and rampant deforestation has had detrimental effects on the environment.

There is no one cause that can be cited for causing environmental pollution. Things happen in a cycle. It’s a combined effect.

Land pollution and soil pollution are interlinked. Air pollution and water pollution are also interlined in many ways. So, a combined effect renders a disastrous call on the environment.

Effects of environmental pollution

It was left to a few lost souls in the wilderness who spoke to us as prophets of doom, but their cries were submerged in the thick black smoke emerged from the dark tall chimneys of a million industrial units and drowned by the din of metallic monsters.

Today the industrialization has reached a sky-rocketing sight and we do not know how to halt or find out an alternative measure to adopt successfully in our greedy march towards capitalistic attitude.

Today, our planet has reached a stage, where environmental pollution is threatening to annihilate it. We cannot imagine a future life when there will be no butterflies, no birds, no fish and the rain water will be black in color.

The effects of environmental pollution are many. We can see smog early in the morning at many parts of the cold country regions.

Smog is nothing but fog combined with smoke. Due to the presence of smog early in the morning, the visibility of the whole area diminishes to a great extent and we can see accidents occurring due to this.

Water shortage and water crisis are like every day events and part and parcel of life at many high rise buildings in the metropolitan cities.

Regular shortage of water supplies is just a normal thing in big towns. When people finally get access to water, they realize they have been gifted with contaminated water, full of impurities that may lead them to many water borne diseases.

Many young children have become victims of asthma and respiratory disorders at very young ages today. The result of this is on account of air pollution.

Fresh and clean air is nowhere to breathe. Big cities are made up of polluted and contaminated air, they are filled up with toxins that run through our bronchiole and create a world full of disorders.

Greenhouse gases are fast heating up in the atmosphere and causing global warming. We can sight unseasonal and acid rains at many parts of the world.

The ozone layer is fast depleting and we can see visible holes in the protective layer of the atmosphere. This may cause and lead to many complications from UV rays, including skin cancer, etc.

Solutions for environmental pollution

We cannot imagine a time when the rivers will get dried up and the land will become barren and instead of forests we will have concrete jungles.

This will soon become a reality if we do not adopt immediate concrete steps to prevent pollution.

As a preventive measure, we must grow more trees, stop killing of wild animals, avoid using plastic bags, stop littering, use less petroleum products, and use more environment – friendly products and so on.

If we do not consider this as a matter of supreme importance to achieve a pollution free environment – we will be totally annihilated by a monster of our own creation.

  • Use of plastics should be banned and paper and jute bags should be used instead. Even if plastic is being used, the usage should be based on necessity and proper disposal methods should be administered.
  • Garbage disposal should be done properly. Waste management should be important criteria for civic authorities and they should look into scientific ways of treating waste. Proper segregation at collection units should be followed.
  • More trees should be planted. The more the trees, the greener our future, the clearer the air and better the environment.
  • More forests should be developed by increasing the green cover around the planet and thus we can hope for more rains and good production of crops as well.
  • Anything that damages the environment, like excessive burning of fossil fuels, combustion of carbon elements, increase of chloro flouro carbons, etc should be avoided.

There are many more measures that we can take up as part of our everyday lives.

Not just in words, but simple actions may lead to major changes in our environment. Reduce, Recycle and Re-use should be our motto as far as possible.

Our environment is set up in such a way that everything inside is interlinked and interconnected. Any change happening at any point in the link affects the others and on the whole upsets the global ecosystem.

There is a point of sustenance that any living ecosystem can thrive on. Beyond this point, we can only see things falling apart.

The delicate balance in the ecosystem that was maintained in the planet has been destroyed beyond repair.

Even if we take suitable measures to replace the lost greenery and bring back the lost life to our environment, it would be a contribution only in a small or negligible percentage.

The damages caused are far beyond what we ought to restore and bring back. It would take millions of years to give back the lost glory and sheen to our environment.

Environmental Pollution Essay 200 words – Sample 3

Environmental pollution is described as the introduction of external pollutants into the environment. Our natural environment consists of the air, forests, rivers, streams, land, soil, vegetation etc. If anything unwanted generated due to human activities enter this otherwise pristine environment, this phenomenon is termed as environmental pollution.

Some of the major human activities causing environmental pollution are industrialization, deforestation, urbanization, nuclear spills etc. Often the production industries are set up near the natural water sources as water is a major resource for several kinds of industrial works.

Water used as coolant and also used for purposes like cleaning, washing etc. But also the waste produced by industries dumped into the water bodies resulting in their pollution.

Water a precious natural resource and though, almost 70% of earth’s surface is covered with water, only 1% of it is actually fresh water and suitable for consumption. Industrial waste pollutes that 1% of extremely rare reserve of fresh water, which has actually taken hundreds of years to be build.

It is very necessary therefore to prevent any damage to the environment and natural resources caused by the human activities. Environmental pollution is a global threat and it must be prevented by making new laws and implementing them with full diligence.

Environmental Pollution Essay 250 words- Sample 3

The term environmental pollution used to describe the contamination of environment by external substances called pollutants. These pollutants generated due to human activities and could be in gaseous, solid or liquid state, depending on their respective process of generation.

Gaseous pollutants include gases like Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Sulphur Dioxide (SO 2 ) generated due to the combustion of fossil fuels. These gases are toxic in nature and harmful to breathe in, when present in the atmosphere in large quantities.

Solid pollutants include industrial waste and waste from human settlements. They consists of all types of solid compounds like plastic, metal, wood, leaves, etc. Solid pollutants not only cause land and soil pollution but also reach our water bodies and pollute them.

Liquid pollutants on the other hand consist of oil and other petroleum products, chemicals, acids etc. The main source of liquid pollutants is petroleum and fuel production industries.

Environmental pollution has an adverse effect on the vital resources like air, water and plants as well as on the health and life of humans. Air pollutions causes respiratory ailments while the pollution of water bodies leads to water borne diseases. Soil pollution also causes contamination of soil affecting the crop production in that particular area.

There is an urgent need to control the environmental pollution by effectively controlling the production of pollutants by adopting more environment friendly policies. Use of more eco friendly fuel sources and proper collection and disposal of waste are some of the methods that could adopted to control environmental pollution.

Environmental Pollution Essay 300 words- Sample 4

Introduction

When an unwanted toxic substance enters our otherwise pure environment, it is termed as pollution. Environmental pollution is serious threat to the environment and its resources. Ironically, almost all of the causes of environment pollution human induced. Below we have presented some important pollution facts for kids, to improve their knowledge.

Pollution Facts for Kids

Below we have provided bulleted point wise narration of environmental pollution facts for kids.

  • Pollution is a serious health concern for people around the world, including the children and adults. Nearly 10 million people worldwide are suffering due to pollution related issues and it is also responsible for the death of more than 2 million children under the age of 5.
  • Water pollution in developed countries is chiefly due to industrial waste. Around 70% of industrial waste in developed countries dumped into water, making the lakes and rivers too polluted for any activity.
  • Pollution of fresh drinking water is one of the main causes of loss of life throughout the world. Every year at least 250 million cases of water borne diseases reported, which subsequently causes 2 to 10 million deaths.
  • A normal human being breathes in around 11,000 liters of air per day. Therefore, breathing polluted air causes severe lung diseases and people living in places with poor air quality are more susceptible to it.
  • Motor vehicles are the main source of air pollution than anything else. An average car produces at least half a ton of carbon dioxide.

Though, the pollution affects the environment and the health of flora and fauna; it is the children who are more susceptible to it health hazards. We must take necessary steps to curb pollution in order to safeguard the health and future of our children.

Environmental Pollution Essay 350 words- Sample 5

Environmental Pollution refers to the introduction of external pollutants into the environment. These pollutants primarily generated from several human activities like transportation, industrialization etc. Environmental pollution has many effects on the environment. Some of the major effects of environmental pollution described below.

Major Effects of Pollution

  • Global Warming

Global warming refers to the rise in average surface temperature of earth. The main reason of global warming is the greenhouse effect which in turn caused due to a large concentration of green house gases into the atmosphere. Gases like Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), Water vapor (H 2 O), Methane (CH 4 ) and Nitrous Oxide (N 2 O) are green house gases and emitted mainly due to the fossil fuel combustion. Greenhouse gases help retain the sun’s heat into the atmosphere, consequently resulting in a rise in earth’s surface temperature.

Acid rain is another environmental degrading effect of pollution. It refers to a rain or a kind of precipitation that is acidic in nature with more concentration of Hydrogen ions, in other words the pH level of Acid Rain is low. It is very harmful to the plants, aquatic species and buildings also. The main human induced causes of acid rain are nitrogen and sulfur compounds generated due to activities like generation of electricity, meat production industries and transportation.

  • Species Depletion

One of the most serious effects of environmental pollution is species depletion both on land and in water. Water pollution severely impacts the quality of water, making it toxic and harmful to live in for the aquatic animals like fishes and tortoise etc. They are highly sensitive to the pollution and often succumb to it. Land pollution and air pollution also causes the depletion of the species of flora and fauna respectively. Air pollution causes some serious respiratory ailments in humans as well as animals.

Pollution not only effects the environment, but it also threatens the very existence of life on earth. It has a large degrading effect on the environment and we must take necessary remedial measures for its prevention if we want our planet to stay healthy and green.

Environmental Pollution Essay 400 words Sample 6

Environmental pollution refers to the inclusion of unwanted toxic pollutants into the environment. These pollutants mainly generated due to several human activities and causes environment degradation. Different types of pollutants lead to different types of environmental pollution which we will discuss below.

Types of Environmental Pollution

Water Pollution

Water Pollution occurs when toxic substances like chemicals, plastic and other waste enters our water resources. The pollutants could include chemicals from agricultural runoff, industrial waste, urban sewage, oil spills by boats etc. Fresh water is very precious natural resource and must kept clean at any cost. As per an estimate provided by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), 64% of lakes are not suitably clean for activities like fishing and swimming.

  • Air Pollution

Air Pollution occurs when particles and other harmful gases generated due to human activities get mixed with the environmental air and causes its degradation. A main cause of the air pollution is the production and use of fossil fuels. The fossil fuel production industry produces harmful gases like SO 2 (Sulphur dioxide), CO 2 (Carbon dioxide) etc. These gases are toxic in nature and cause other serious complications like greenhouse effects and acid rain.

  • Land/Soil Pollution

The main cause of land/soil pollution is urban waste and agricultural runoff. Urban waste consists of all type of degradable, and non degradable waste likes vegetables, waste food, plastic, hospital waste etc. In the absence of a proper waste collection and disposal mechanism, these wastes get disposed on land resulting in land pollution. Moreover, the use of chemical fertilizers in the agricultural industry causes the chemical pollutants to get absorbed in the soil, causing soil pollution.

  • Noise Pollution

Noise pollution also known as sound pollution and caused when the noise level into the environment reaches up to dangerously high level so as to interfere with normal activities of humans and animals. Transportation vehicles, heavy machineries, aircrafts are the main sources of noise pollution. Noise level is measured in Decibel (dB) and the permissible limit of noise as described by the World Health Organization (WHO) is 50 dB. Though, in the areas of dense population, urban settlement and traffic it often reaches up to 98 dB, which is very harmful to the humans and animals.

There many types of pollution depending on the activities they generated from; nevertheless, the ability to deal with all of them lies only with humans. It required that we take immediate responsibility of our environment and also take necessary steps towards preventing its pollution.

Environmental Pollution Essay 500 words – Sample 7

Everything that surrounds us constitutes the environment. It is the condition in which humans, plants, animals and other creatures live and operate. Environmental Pollution on the other hand is the introduction of unwanted and often toxic substances in to the environment. These substances termed as pollutants and mainly produced due to human activities. In the following essay we will go through causes, effects and control of environmental pollution.

Causes of Environmental Pollution

Many causes of environmental pollution including oil spills, burning of fossil fuels, industrial waste, use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture, use of plastic etc. for instance, transportation industry relies on fuel like petrol and diesel that has derived formed due to anaerobic decomposition of buried dead organisms. The main pollutant gas emitted when fossil fuel burned in a transport vehicle are CO 2 (Carbon dioxide) and CO (Carbon Monoxide). Former is a potent greenhouse gas while the latter is toxic in nature.

Industrial waste generated in industries throughout world carelessly dumped in to environment due to lack of proper planning. It pollutes our water bodies, land and is also harmful to the health of human and other living species.

Effects of Environmental Pollution

Effects of Environmental Pollution are on number of factors including human health as well as survival and health of other living organisms, animals and plants.

Air pollution causes severe respiratory ailments in humans and animals alike. Water pollution renders water toxic and natural water resource unusable. It also causes depletion of aquatic species and flora and fauna that depends on it.

Above mentioned effects of environmental pollution, some more severe effects like global warming, floods and acid rain. Global warming caused due excess environmental concentration of gases like CO 2 (Carbon dioxide), CH 4 (Methane), N 2 O (Nitrous Oxide) and O 3 (Ozone). These gases primarily released due to human activities like transportation, industrialization etc.

Environmental Pollution Control

Pollution control refers to the controlling of emissions from human activities, into the environment. The waste products that generated by transportation, industrialization, and several other similar activities; leads to the degradation of the environment.

Pollution caused by these waste products could controlled by adapting to new environmental friendly norms for industries. And by allowing recycling or proper disposal of waste.

Methods like dust collection system and electrostatic precipitation can used to control air pollution; sewage treatment like sedimentation can used for treating industrial and urban waste.

Environmental pollution is one of the greatest threats to health of the planet. Ever growing human needs and man’s quest for progress is consistently degrading the atmosphere and its elements. An urgent need to take necessary action for controlling environment pollution caused due to human activities by taking remedial measures.

Reported by Pankaj Bhatt

Published on 24 April 2024

Environmental Pollution causes harm to the ecosystem, biodiversity, and also human being. It can be a human-made or natural type of pollution, which either be created by human activities which might be intentionally or unintentionally, or natural pollution can be created by natural catastrophes like a flood, droughts, earthquakes, etc. The main reason for this uncontrollable Environmental pollution is deforestation, because of industrial waste, and the increase in air pollution which depletes the ozone layer of the atmosphere.

Environmental Pollution Essay for Children

To spread awareness about Environmental Pollution, the government every year celebrated World Environmental Day on the 5th June. The word environment comes from the word “ Environia ” which implies “ surround ” the thing which surrounds us whether it is abiotic or biotic substances, surround by all the natural forces.

“The environment is where we all meet; where we all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share.” -Lady Bird Johnson

What is Environmental Pollution ?

There is a famous phrase by Ladybird Johnson, “ The Environment is where we all meet; where we all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share .” Environmental pollution is intentionally or unintentionally created through human activities or it can also get polluted by natural calamities as well and these natural disasters are the result of the destruction of the environment because of human actions. To raise issues against Environmental pollution, in 1974 Stockholm started to celebrate Environment Day at the conference of the Human Environment on 5 th June every year and the theme of the World Environment Day is “ Only One Earth.”

Environmental Pollution could be of various types like Air Pollution , Thermal Pollution , Water Pollution , Soil Pollution , or Land Pollution , & Radioactive Pollution which affects the worldwide ecosystem, it also affects the biodiversity, which makes most of the animal get endangered and also extinct.

According to the world counts data from 2011 and 2015 around 20 million of the forest was cut down, but from the year 2016, the rate of cutting trees raises by 8+ million more. When we see the data of 2001 to 2008, globally around 36 lakh and 10 thousand sq. km trees were lost and from that India lost larger than that in the year 2000. So these all are wake calls for all of us, and we all have to take responsibility. This Earth is ours and all of us make an effort to save it!

What is Environmental Pollution?

Environment pollution is the result of the homo sapiens’ miserable activities, for making their lifestyle simple and full of comfort. What do you think? Deforestation is the destruction or reconstruction of the living style. If you see the world counts data, the falling of forest is increased by 8 million from the previous data.

Do you ever think, about how much it harms the environment? We all want to live with comfort, and that’s not the problem but to achieve that life indirectly we all harm our environment which not only affects the climate but also destruct biodiversity.

What are the types of Environmental Pollution?

There are various types of pollution that affect the Environment drastically, which wreck the ecosystem and the biodiversity of the environment through which the balance of the environment will be maintained. Here is the list of Environmental pollution: –

Air Pollution

Air pollution is caused by noxious Substances like Radioactive pollutants, Carbon dioxide, Volatile organic compounds, Sulphur dioxide, Carbon monoxide, and much more gases like this, which cause destruction of the atmosphere and leads to the depletion of the ozone layer and moreover the drastic changes in the climate.

What is Cause/Sources of Air Pollution?

Have you ever heard or feel that there is suffocation in the environment when you breathe especially when you are in a metro city for example Delhi, where air quality is low, except this covid-19 where the whole world is using a mask, but it is quite usual in Delhi or many other states. Some of the reasons for this degradation of air are given below: –

  • Industrial wastes, which gets released into the atmosphere, causing the depletion of ozone layer.
  • The most essential thing today’s lifestyle without which we cannot imagine to survive, our Vehicle (transportation).
  • You all must have heard that in 2020 about the bizarre fire in Amazon Forest around 1,880 fires detects and it doesn’t happen naturally, it is a result of environmental pollution which causes an extreme change in climate and increases global warming.

Thermal Pollution

Thermal pollution is induced by changing the temperature of the water. Thermal pollution can decrease the amount of oxygen level which kills aquatic lives.

What is Cause/Sources Thermal Pollution?

According to the report around 80 percent of water pollution comes from the agriculture field because of harmful chemical fertilizers used by farmers for their crops yielding and every year many of the aquatic animals either lost their life or migrate to other places. There is some reason which causes Thermal Pollution:

  • The very first reason for thermal pollution and the migration of aquatic animals is water warming. Water warming is occurred because of less concentration of oxygen which makes them difficult in breathing inside water for water animals. As per the theory, cold water carries more oxygen than hot water.
  • The second one is the enhanced toxicity into the water, all the industrial waste, sometimes spill of oil into the oceans, which creates a dangerous mutation, however, either it will kill the aquatic Flora and Fauna.

Water Pollution

Water pollution can be caused by plastic or any solid waste simply thrown into the water, by spilling of oil tanks, sewage waste, etc. Many farmers used chemical fertilizers to grow crops rapidly, however, it causes soil contamination and makes the underground water polluted, which many drinks in their daily life. Today what we are eating and drinking will decide how much healthy we are. We need to spread awareness against water pollution and save water. There are a few reasons which cause water pollution as follows:

What is the Cause/Sources of Water Pollution?

Water is the essential source of living, we cannot imagine to spent our livelihood without water, so why we all are so careless to conserve water, the abundance of water is more on Earth, but from that only 3 percent is there which we can drink, and according to the research soon we lost the God’s gift.

  • One of the main reasons for water pollution is the agricultural projects, which runs by the government, obviously to increase the production of the crops. But, is it actually doing things in a good way? By using many antibiotics, use of nitrate, and heavy metals, artificial growth hormone regulators can be used to raise the production of the crops. All these things get mixed with the water through groundwater.
  • Another reason is the manufacturing company activities, which generally depend on Mining, In many foundries where metal gets melted and emits lots of gases which are directly released into the water by converting the gaseous molecules into small particles and the process is called as gasification.

Soil/Agriculture/ Land Pollution

Soil pollution degrades the quality of land or induces impairment to agriculture that’s why it is also known to be Land or Agriculture pollution respectively. The reason behind the soil pollution is chemical fertilizers and pesticides used by farmers to increase the production of the crop and protect it from insects, which slowly leads to the barren land and then no more crops will grow in that land.

What is the Cause/Sources of Soil Pollution?

As the above mentioned pollution, is correlated with Soil pollution, if you polluted the land where you live, and from where you eat and drink, it directly harms the environment as well as human beings and animals.

Do you know many of animals died because of eating such poisonous crops, many aquatic animals lost their lives and some of them get extinct or on the verge of endangered species?

How to Overcome the Environmental Pollution?

There are many ways to prevent environmental pollution and every individual must involve in it. They have to do their individual part to save the environment, each and everyone is sharing the same environment, so it is the responsibility of every individual to give something back to the environment.

Even though the government is also well aware of the consequences of the destruction of the Environment, if we harm the environment it will come to all of us and we all have to suffer from the consequences.

Every year, the environment gives us warning in many ways through their natural calamities, and recently you all heard the news about the Kerala flood due to which about 80 per cent of the state land drowned in that flood, just like you heard about many cyclones, storms, earthquakes, avalanches, etc.

This Earth is Ours, We all are sharing it equally, So we have to take the liability . The government can only run the mission or movement but it is our duly responsibility to obey and help the government. Here is the famous phrase by John Paul:

“The Earth will not continue to offer its harvest, except with faithful stewardship. We cannot say we love the land and then take steps to destroy it for use by future generations.” —John Paul II

Ways to Control the Environment by Applying these habits in your daily life.

  • Don’t throw anything in the open drains, it will prevent water pollution.
  • Maintain your vehicle, as per the government guidelines and if possible try to ride a bicycle, it will make you fit and keep the environment beautiful.
  • Stop smoking, we all read that cautious note on that box but we never agree that, it not only harm your body but gives the contribution to rising air pollution.
  • Avoid using chemical fertilizers and pesticides, instead of that you can use natural fertilizers like cow dung, etc.

What are the steps taken by the Government to control Environmental pollution?

There are some of the missions run by the government to protect the environment:

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Mission

This mission is started by P rime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2019 on the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Under this National Movement of clean India, he carried out this mission to the whole India and starts this mission by cleaning the Varanasi river The Ganges. And this mission is still going on and the main vision of this movement is people get aware, that they are also the reason to pollute the water bodies of the Earth.

Reduce-Reuse-Recycle

This mission is based on the 3Rs which are as: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, the main vision to start this movement is to save the environment from Land pollution, Water pollution, Air pollution, Thermal pollution, etc. According to the study of waste management, there are five types of dustbins: Black, Blue, Green, Red, Yellow, and White. According to its colour, we need to throw waste accordingly, so it will be easy to recognize What to reduce? What to Reuse? What to Recycle?

Environmental Pollution Essay 1 (100 words)

Environmental pollution refers to the introduction of undesirable polluting substances into the environment. These substances are produced mainly due to human activities like transportation, industrialization and urbanization among others. There are even some natural factors that cause environmental pollution like volcanic eruption, storms etc, but their impact on the environment is temporary as well as negligible as compared to the human induced pollution.

Pollution poses a serious threat to the environment and also to the life and heath of humans, plants and animals. Any living species could only survive if the environment remains clean and pure, otherwise life on the planet would be really difficult and impossible to imagine.

Environmental Pollution Essay 2 (150 words)

Very often we hear the term environmental pollution while talking about harm human’s quest for progress is doing to the environment and what impacts it has on the health of humans and other species as well.

Pollution of the environment happens when our natural environment is disturbed by the introduction of unwanted and harmful substances known as pollutants. Many human activities like use of fossil fuels in the vehicles, dumping of industrial waste, cutting down trees and forests for urban settlements and large use of plastic are some of the main human induced causes of environmental pollution.

Environmental pollution leads to a series of undesirable outcomes like global warming, acid rain, species depletion, flood and famines among several other severe consequences. If we want the planet to be green and inhabited for millions of more years then it is very necessary that we should take all the necessary steps to prevent environmental pollution.

Environmental Pollution Essay 3 (200 words)

Environmental pollution is described as the introduction of external pollutants into the environment. Our natural environment consists of the air, forests, rivers, streams, land, soil, vegetation etc. If anything unwanted generated due to human activities enter this otherwise pristine environment, this phenomenon is termed as environmental pollution.

Some of the major human activities causing environmental pollution are industrialization, deforestation, urbanization, nuclear spills etc. Often the production industries are set up near the natural water sources as water is a major resource for several kinds of industrial works.

Water is used as coolant and also used for purposes like cleaning, washing etc. But also the waste produced by industries is dumped into the water bodies resulting in their pollution.

Water is a precious natural resource and though, almost 70% of earth’s surface is covered with water, only 1% of it is actually fresh water and suitable for consumption.

Environmental Pollution Essay 4 (250 words)

The term environmental pollution is used to describe the contamination of environment by external substances called pollutants. These pollutants are generated due to human activities and could be in gaseous, solid or liquid state, depending on their respective process of generation.

Use of more eco friendly fuel sources and proper collection and disposal of waste are some of the methods that could be adopted to control environmental pollution.

Environmental Pollution Essay 5 (300 words)

Introduction

When an unwanted toxic substance enters our otherwise pure environment, it is termed as pollution. Environmental pollution is serious threat to the environment and its resources. Ironically, almost all of the causes of environment pollution are human induced.

Around 70% of industrial waste in developed countries is dumped into water, making the lakes and rivers too polluted for any activity.
  • Pollution of fresh drinking water is one of the main causes of loss of life throughout the world. Every year at least 250 million cases of water borne diseases are reported, which subsequently causes 2 to 10 million deaths.

Environmental Pollution Essay 6 (350 words)

Environmental Pollution refers to the introduction of external pollutants into the environment. These pollutants are primarily generated from several human activities like transportation, industrialization etc. Environmental pollution has many effects on the environment. Some of the major effects of environmental pollution are described below.

Major Effects of Pollution

1) Global Warming

Global warming refers to the rise in average surface temperature of earth. The main reason of global warming is the greenhouse effect which in turn is caused due to a large concentration of green house gases into the atmosphere.

2) Acid Rain

Acid rain is another environmental degrading effect of pollution. It refers to a rain or a kind of precipitation that is acidic in nature with more concentration of Hydrogen ions, in other words the pH level of Acid Rain is low. It is very harmful to the plants, aquatic species and buildings also.  The main human induced causes of acid rain are nitrogen and sulfur compounds generated due to activities like generation of electricity, meat production industries and transportation.

3) Species Depletion

Environmental Pollution Essay 7 (400 words)

Environmental pollution refers to the inclusion of unwanted toxic pollutants into the environment. These pollutants are mainly generated due to several human activities and causes environment degradation. Different types of pollutants lead to different types of environmental pollution which we will discuss below.

Types of Environmental Pollution

1) Water Pollution

Water Pollution occurs when toxic substances like chemicals, plastic and other waste enters our water resources. The pollutants could include chemicals from agricultural runoff, industrial waste, urban sewage, oil spills by boats etc. Fresh water is very precious natural resource and must be kept clean at any cost. As per an estimate provided by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), 64% of lakes are not suitably clean for activities like fishing and swimming.

2) Air Pollution

Air Pollution occurs when particles and other harmful gases generated due to human activities get mixed with the environmental air and causes its degradation. A main cause of the air pollution is the production and use of fossil fuels. The fossil fuel production industry produces harmful gases like SO 2 (Sulphur dioxide), CO 2 (Carbon dioxide) etc. These gases are toxic in nature and cause other serious complications like greenhouse effects and acid rain.

3) Land/Soil Pollution

The main cause of land/soil pollution is urban waste and agricultural runoff. Urban waste consists of all type of degradable, and non degradable waste likes vegetables, waste food, plastic, hospital waste etc. In the absence of a proper waste collection and disposal mechanism, these wastes get disposed on land resulting in land pollution. Moreover, the use of chemical fertilizers in the agricultural industry causes the chemical pollutants to get absorbed in the soil, causing soil pollution.

4) Noise Pollution

Noise pollution is also known as sound pollution and is caused when the noise level into the environment reaches up to dangerously high level so as to interfere with normal activities of humans and animals.

There are many types of pollution depending on the activities they are generated from; nevertheless, the ability to deal with all of them lies only with humans. It is required that we take immediate responsibility of our environment and also take necessary steps towards preventing its pollution.

Environmental Pollution Essay 8 (500 words)

Everything that surrounds us constitutes the environment. It is the condition in which humans, plants, animals and other creatures live and operate. Environmental Pollution on the other hand is the introduction of unwanted and often toxic substances in to the environment. These substances are termed as pollutants and are mainly produced due to human activities. In the following essay we will go through causes, effects and control of environmental pollution.

Causes of Environmental Pollution

There are many causes of environmental pollution including oil spills, burning of fossil fuels, industrial waste, use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture, use of plastic etc. for instance, the transportation industry relies on fuel like petrol and diesel that has been derived formed due to anaerobic decomposition of buried dead organisms. The main pollutant gas emitted when fossil fuel is burned in a transport vehicle are CO 2 (Carbon dioxide) and CO (Carbon Monoxide). Former is a potent greenhouse gas while the latter is toxic in nature.

Similarly, the industrial waste generated in the industries throughout the world, is carelessly dumped in to the environment due to lack of proper planning and infrastructure. It pollutes our water bodies, land and is also harmful to the health of human and other living species.

Effects of Environmental Pollution

The effects of Environmental Pollution are on a number of factors including the human health as well as the survival and health of other living organisms, animals and plants.

Air pollution causes severe respiratory ailments in humans and animals alike. Water pollution renders the water toxic and natural water resource unusable. It also causes the depletion of aquatic species and the flora and fauna that depends on it.

Apart from the above mentioned effects of the environmental pollution, there are some more severe effects like global warming, floods, famine and acid rain. Global warming is caused due the excess environmental concentration of the gases like CO 2 (Carbon dioxide), CH 4 (Methane), N 2 O (Nitrous Oxide) and O 3 (Ozone). These gases are primarily released due to human activities like transportation, industrialization etc.

Environmental Pollution Control

Pollution control refers to the controlling of emissions from human activities, into the environment. The waste products that are generated by transportation, industrialization, and several other similar activities; leads to the degradation of the environment.

The pollution caused by these waste products could be controlled by adapting to new environmental friendly norms for the industries and by allowing recycling or proper disposal of waste.

Methods like dust collection system and electrostatic precipitation can be used to control air pollution; sewage treatment like sedimentation can be used for treating industrial and urban waste.

Environmental pollution is one of the greatest threats to health of the planet. Ever growing human needs and man’s quest for progress is consistently degrading the atmosphere and its elements. There is an urgent need to take necessary action for controlling the environment pollution caused due to human activities by taking necessary remedial measures.
