In many countries, people do not recycle their rubbish as much as they could. Why do you think this is? What can be done to change this?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer:

It is quite significant to recycle the waste product in an environment friendly manner, yet many  countries fail to do the same. There are several reasons why people do not focus on recycling and proper steps should be taken to change such a scenario.

First of all, most people do not understand the need and importance of recycling. They are ignorant of the process of recycling and are least bothered to know where and how their garbage is being disposed. Moreover, most people are so busy in their own lives that they do not have the  time to act responsibly and take care of such things. To cap it all, in many countries even government does not try to bring an improvement so that the recycling can be done on a larger scale. In a recent survey; conducted by the Times magazine of India, it was observed that 8 out of 10 people do not really know about the significance of recycling .

To combat the above problem, lots of steps can be taken. Government should try and create forums where people can be educated about the significance of recycling. A chapter related to this topic should be included in the school curriculum so that citizens become responsible at an early age. Government can also start some programmes so that the rubbish can be recycled at a larger scale and the environment is made clean.  For example, The new Prime minister of India Mr Narendra Modi initialized a programme named “Swach Bharat Abhiyan”, which means clean India. This programme focuses on keeping the country clean and propagates the need of recycling the rubbish products. Now, various societies are setting up collection processes so that most of the waste products are recycled in an eco friendly manner.

In conclusion, it can be said that with increasing population all over the world , waste management is an important process and every country should try to maximize the recycling of rubbish.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Some people claim that not enough of the waste from homes is recycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for governments to make it a legal requirement. To what extent do you think laws are needed to make people recycle more of their waste?

Write at least 250 words. (waste = rubbish, garbage, trash)

Certain individuals argue that there is a lack of home rubbish being recycled in the public and that the only remedy for this is to implement national regulations and fines. To what degree do you believe that people’s recycling and disposal habits need to be managed by government law?

TOPIC = Maximizing recycling in the home

Controlling idea = the requirements, especially government regulation to achieve maximizing recycling at home

What does it mean to maximize recycling in the home?

A: To reuse, reduce and recycle waste thereby minimizing the number of materials that end up in landfills. 

Why would we want to minimize domestic garbage?

A: To preserver resources and protect the environment and ultimately to ensure our way of life and survival. 

How can we achieve this goal of minimizing waste and maximizing recycling in the home?

A: raising awareness, government regulations and fines, taking responsibility for ourselves and others. 

CONTROLLING IDEA: 

Why may it be necessary for society to implement government regulation to maximize recycling in the home?

Because many people are irresponsible and their actions impacts all of society negatively

People are more likely to recycle

Why not just give people a chance to learn from school, tv, social media and come to their own realization that maximizing recycling is important?”

THESIS: I strongly believe that government regulations are required to force people to increase their domestic recycling habits because of irresponsibility and time. 

INTRODUCTION 

(Hook) Recycling household waste is expected in society. (Background) People need to reuse, reduce and recycle their domestic rubbish not only to protect the environment but also to ensure the future prosperity of humankind. (THESIS) I strongly believe that government regulations are required to force people to increase their domestic recycling habits because of irresponsibility and time.

BODY 1 – Topic sentence – What should it include? Define the need of laws to manage irresponsibility of recycling.

Since many individuals neglect their duty to recycle a lot of rubbish, government laws are need to force them to act in the interest of themselves, the public and the planet. (Explain this – use quantitative language) Frequently, people around the world throw plastic bottles, tin cans, and glass containers into their general rubbish which should otherwise be separated into recycling bins, and authorities can make this an obligation by imposing strict, 1000-dollar fines, for those who do not separate their recyclables appropriately. (Specific example) In my neighborhood, I have seen recycling increase threefold since the Canadian government established strict laws for residents that do not recycle their waste. (Connecting sentence) This is one of two reasons that governments must regulate domestic recycling.

BODY 2 – topic 🡪 government regulation is needed because people are out of time. 

Our planet cannot cope with the rate of pollution generated by humanity and societies are running out of time to save the environment so government intervention is needed to speed up the process. (E) The rate of land, water and air pollution is extensive and is causing global warming and land, air and water pollution is rapidly increasing leading to global warming and the death of flora and fauna. Without putting a quick stop to this process the planet, and humanity along with it, suffers and dies in a matter of decades, and it is up to elected authorities to curtail this phenomena with heavy fines and consequences for those households which contribute to this problem. Example – Due to the contribution of the increased consumption and waste of domestic waste, global temperature has risen by over 1 degrees average in the last year; at this rate, humanity cannot survive another half century. When governments regulate this behavior with 1000-dollar fines they force people to change their habits within a matter of weeks rather than years. 

CONCLUSION 

In conclusion, many people do not care enough about recycling and the planet is simply running out of time for humans to recycle sufficiently. Therefore, I strongly support the idea of government regulation to increase domestic recycling practices. In the end, it is better to force people to pay a fine now than to pay with their lives later in a world which can no longer sustain life.

Sample Academic Writing Answer Task 1:

Plastic bottles are one of the most materials used in the world, and recycling is a really important subject to try to minimize the waste.

Around the streets, in front off houses and restaurants is possible to see some bins, to collect organic and recycle waste. The yellow in is the correct one to trash recycle things, such as plastic bottles. After trashed, a truck collects at least once a week and leave in a specific place to separate what is recycleble and what is not. For that reason, is really important to separate before trash, this means someone will not spend to many time separating.

Recycling is a big process, after separated the waste should be compressing in blocks to facilitat the crushing and washing process, that should be done because to many durty come with the bottles and crushing it makes easier to produce a new material.

Crushed, washed and then going to the production of plastic pellets, it is can be finally heated to form a raw material. But what can be produced using recycled bottles? New bottles, containers, bags, T-shirts, pen, toys and to many other things.

Searching, it is possible to see how big is the waste problem around the world and how not to many govermnents invests in this situation. Starting into the houses, avoiding to use plastics in excess and separating the correct things in the correct bins, is a good way to keep the environment safe.

Examiner’s comment:

In this process task, the response includes an introduction and covers the main stages of the recycling process. However, there is significant irrelevant detail included, e.g. in the last paragraph, which reduces the score.

The stages are set out in order and there is good overall progression with some effective linking devices [such as | For that reason] and cohesion [what is … what is not | that] but the errors reduce the band score here. The candidate tends to use lists rather than a full range of cohesive devices.

Vocabulary is adequate with some original vocabulary [minimize the waste | separated | containers | environment]; however, much is taken directly from the task [compressing | to form a raw material. There are errors in spelling [in / bin | durty I dirty] but they do not reduce communication.

Grammatical structures are limited and level of error is high [after separated I after separating | should be compressing I should be compressed | it is can be I it can be]. For a higher score, improved accuracy is needed.

The score for this response could be improved by including a summary of the main stages of the process, e.g. plastic bottles are collected, sorted, broken down and made into new products.

Finally I think it is very hard to believe that the driverless vehicles with outweigh the disadvantages because people always find drive more and more give thier life meaning and add more advantage to it all kind of vehicles give happeness to a lot of people that they can not think about losing it.

Most of the ideas in this response are not relevant to the question. It mainly talks about the need people have to go from place to place and how people like different types of transport. However, there is a position expressed in the final paragraph. A title is not required in Task 2.

There is some attempt to organise the ideas and there are some basic cohesive devices [First of all | Finally], but there is inaccuracy and a general lack of coherence. There is no clear progression.

There is a high density of error in the use of vocabulary in terms of spelling and word choice [easly fund thier vehicl I perefer to chang thier]. Sentence structures are very limited, although there are some attempts at subordinate clauses [because they all have a different advantage].

The diagram illustrates numerous stages in the recycling of waste glass bottles.

There are three key stages shown in the diagram, beginning with the collection of the used glass bottles and ending with the delivery of products in new bottles to retail outlets, such as supermarkets.

In the first stage , waste bottles are deposited at collection points, where they are loaded onto trucks for delivery to a glass recycling facility.

The second stage begins with the process of cleaning the bottles with high-pressure water, and they are then separated into a clear, green and brown glass. This is then broken into pieces in the glass factory and passed through a furnace, where they are burned at a temperature of 600 to 800 degrees Celsius. This recycled glass is transformed into liquid form, and it is joined with new liquid glass, ready for moulding into a bottle shape.

In the final stage , the new bottles are used for different products, ready for sale in supermarkets or shops.

Model Answer

The flow chart depicts the recycling of waste paper. Overall, this process involves six distinct stages, beginning with the collection of waste paper and ending with the production of usable paper.

Waste paper is collected at the initial stage of the paper recycling process, either from paper banks where members of the public deposit their used paper or directly from businesses. This paper is then manually sorted and graded, with any paper that is inappropriate for recycling being removed. Once the classification stage finishes, the graded paper is then transported to a paper mill to be ready for the next steps.

Cleaning is required in stages four and five of the process. In this stage, foreign objects such as staples are got rid of from the paper after it has been cleaned and pulped. At the de-inking stage, all remnants of ink and glue are removed from the paper. At the final stage, paper is put into a machine, and then new paper is finally produced and is ready to be used again.

The diagram details how recycled paper is made. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the process involves three main stages beginning with initial collection and transportation, followed by cleaning and processing, and lastly the rolling of the final product. The process is entirely man-made.

In order to produce recycled paper, used paper is first sourced and transported by conveyer belt to a processing plant. The used paper is then made into unfiltered pulp by using water and various chemicals. The pulp must then be filtered with water being removed.

After filtering is complete, the filtered paper pulp is sent by a tube to a container with water and soap to be further cleaned. Air is pumped into the container and ink is removed. There is then additional cleaning with water and chemicals before the final rolling stages commence. To create useable recycled paper rolls, the cleaned and filtered pulp is placed on a conveyor belt where heated rollers flatten the paper and remove excess water.

In my opinion, while globalization has indeed contributed to reducing absolute poverty on a global scale, it has simultaneously exacerbated relative income inequality both within and between nations. The benefits of globalization have been unevenly distributed, with skilled workers and capital owners reaping disproportionate rewards. To address this issue , I believe that governments and international organizations must implement policies to ensure a more equitable distribution of globalization’s benefits, such as progressive taxation, investment in education and skills training, and strengthening social safety nets.

In conclusion, globalization’s impact on income inequality is complex and multifaceted. While it has helped alleviate extreme poverty globally, it has also contributed to widening income gaps. Moving forward, it is crucial to harness the positive aspects of globalization while mitigating its negative effects on income distribution.

While it’s true that it has helped many people in developing countries escape poverty, it has also contributed to growing inequality within countries. I think the overall impact depends on how governments manage globalization and support those who are negatively affected by it.

To conclude, the relationship between globalization and income inequality is complicated. While it has brought benefits to many, it has also created challenges. I believe that we need to find ways to make globalization work better for everyone, not just the wealthy few.

C.  The second half of the twentieth century saw new subway systems constructed in cities around the world. Many Korean cities have modern subway systems, the largest one in the capital city of Seoul, with 287 kilometers of track. [ Crack IELTS with Rob ] The first subway in Brazil opened in the city of Sao Paulo in 1974. Since then subways have been built in a number of other Brazilian cities, including Rio de Janeiro and the capital, Brasilia. Washington, DC, began running the Washington Metro in 1976. Hong Kong opened its subway in 1979. This system includes four lines that run under Victoria Harbour. In 2000, a 17-mile long subway system was completed in Los Angeles, a city infamous for its traffic problems and resulting smog. Construction of this system took fourteen years to complete.

F.    A new feature now often included in the construction of new subway stations is Platform Screen Door (PSD). The Singapore subway was the first to be built with the inclusion of PSDs. The original purpose was to reduce high air-conditioning costs in underground stations. [ Crack IELTS with Rob ] Since then, there has been more and more focus on the safety aspects of this device, as it can prevent people from accidentally falling or being pushed onto the track. PSDs also keep the station platforms quieter and cleaner and allow trains to enter stations at higher rates of speed. The subway system in Hong Kong was the first to have PSDs added to an already existing system. They are becoming more common in subway systems around the world. Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, London, and Copenhagen are just some of the cities that have PSDs in at least some of their subway stations. PSDs are also often used with other forms of transportation, such as monorails, light rail systems, and airport transportation systems.
