Differences in a cell phone and a cordless phone, the positive impact of cell phones, the negative impact of cell phones, works cited.
A cell phone, in other words also referred to as a mobile phone is a gadget that is operated electronically using frequencies of radio telecommunication which operates on a two-way basis within a given network. Since their inception, cell phones have contributed highly to several factors both negatively and positively. Motorola was the first telephone company to demonstrate the first handheld mobile phone.
Cell phones which are currently more reliable enable users to communicate over a two-way network. With this, users can communicate via radio frequencies throughout the world hence making communication easy. This is unlikely while using cordless telephones which have limitations on the area of coverage. Cell phones also do support many interesting features like the internet, Bluetooth. Infrared and also games (Consumer Reports, 2003). One can even take a picture of their choice and send it via the MMS service to another mobile phone. Interesting cell phone Applications can be stored inside the cell phone’s memory. Some feature cell phones also come with a memory slot card which allows the user to swap memory cards of different storage capacities. A wide range of recharging options like a USB port or a cigarette lighter characterizes the cell phone’s advanced features to those of the cordless telephone. In addition to these, cell phones also have Bluetooth hands-free features that allow the user to answer calls when driving or just for leisure, without using hands to access the keypad.
In the modern world where everything is rapidly changing, cell phones have succeeded in improving plenty of our lives. We can now monitor our premises and homes with the help of a cell phone. Keeping in touch with friends and family has never before been this easier and more fun. Cell phone technology has also seen a significant percentage of people access news and social networking sites such as Facebook from their cell phones (Knight Digital Media Center, 2009). In the event of an emergency, one can be sure to be able to convey a message regardless of the distance. However, cell phones have also impacted negatively on the user and the community at large.
In as much as the positive attributes of owning a cell phone surpass those of not owning one, there are disadvantages too. Cell phones have been said to be a major cause of road accidents due to overindulgence in calls and text messages whilst driving (eHow magazine). Children with access to high-end cell phones end up getting exploited especially by child predators. There are also concerns that the prolonged use of cell phones could in the long run have side effects on the user, thus causing diseases such as cancer of the skin. Security is also an issue because criminals take advantage of the cell phone’s ability to use different sim cards from different operator companies, to commit crimes like extortion.+
The world being a global village, cell phones play a major role in ensuring improved quality of life through a cheap and personalized communication medium. It is estimated that over 4 billion cell phones are in circulation worldwide. It is my opinion that the cell phone era has succeeded in promoting business among individuals and companies in general. Through cheap communication rates, information is disseminated from point A to point B seemingly effortlessly. Would surely advise anyone to acquire a cell phone, especially in these days of uncertainty.

There are social, medical and technical problems associated with the use of mobile phones. What forms do they take? Do you agree that the problems outweigh the benefits of the mobile phone?
Nowadays, the increasing popularity of mobile phones seem to be an unstoppable trend. However, whether the social, medical and technical dilemmas it causes will outweigh the benefits remains a controversial issue. My view is that despite the detrimental aspects, we can not just discard the little tiny tools.
First, it is obvious that the mobile phones have tremendously promoted and facilitated our communications, bridging the gap between people no matter how far away they are separate from each other. With mobile phones, businessmen can negotiate without bothering travelling long distance to meet; parents can know where their kids are at any time. If we do not have the devices, communication would definitely pose a significant obstacle to our social development.
Moreover, integrated with the cutting-edge Internet technologies, the mobile phones can be treated as little computers in people’s pockets. After installing varied apps, it can help navigate the route when driving, interact with friends with text, images and videos, and even act as an office assistant dealing with emails and office documents – the list is endless. Therefore, the mobile phones have become an integral part of our life.
That is not to say that we could disregard the negative aspects. It has been reported that some heart diseases, indulging in virtual world, invading the individual’s privacy are caused by overuse of phones. But any way, to be honest, all powerful technologies should be harnessed strictly under regulations.
In sum, mobile phones are just indispensable to our daily life; meanwhile, though the pros clearly outweigh the cons, the problems should be handled by efforts. Only by doing so can wen ensure that we can utilise the devices smartly, making our society more convenient and interesting.

Mobile phones are one of the most important electronic gadgets that we need in our daily life. They appear to be almost indispensable communication tools in today’s world. But there are many disadvantages of mobile phones.
Many people have experienced being in an urgent business meeting and seeing someone’s mobile phone starts ringing with an incoming call. It is annoying and frustrating when you are in an important meeting. The same thing can occur in movie theatres, family gatherings, and even at weddings. As mobile phones are the main tool for communication in these days, they can interrupt at any time.
While people drive on roads, they also feel compelled to keep communicating because of this constant form of communication. And this is one of the main reason for road accidents. In India, at least 20 persons die every day due to road accidents.
Mobile phones leave negative impacts on personal contacts. We have seen many teenagers having dinner with their family members. But instead of joining in conversations with them, they keep themselves busy on their mobile phones scrolling through news feeds on social media applications. In this way, many people have lost their conversation skills which restrict them from interacting with other people. Using cell phones can cause distance in relationships too.
We still don’t know properly how dangerous mobile phone towers are. But there are some shreds of evidence which show some points toward tumours caused by cell phones. When we are looking for the disadvantages of mobile phones, the biggest disadvantage of using mobile phones is causing harm to one’s health.
Some negative impacts on a person’s health caused by mobile phones are DNA damage, sleeplessness, eye cancer, infertility, cardiac problems, chronic fatigue, etc. In a statistical survey, it is proven that more than 90% college students sleep with their mobile phones or next to them, 70% students said they couldn’t get enough sleep, and 50% said they feel tired during the day. Using mobile phones excessively can cause suppression in melatonin that alerts the brain and harm both quality and quantity of sleep.
There are so many people in this world who use mobiles phones as fashion. They upgrade the models of mobile phones they use regularly. Mobile phones are costly nowadays, and buying new models in a certain interval of time will make you spend too much money.
Mobile phones contain so many private photos and videos. Maintaining the privacy of these photos and videos have become harder these days as the mobile manufacturing companies and applications installed in the phones can go through your things in your phones. Hackers can easily hack your mobile, and the private things in your phone can be easily stolen.
Spam messages and calls also fall under the disadvantages of mobile phones. Many of us receive unsolicited sales calls or texts that are annoying and disruptive. Most of the times, these calls don’t involve real callers but are generated from a computer. Money-making scams are increasing day by day, and these scams often target the most vulnerable members of our society.
Short Essay on Disadvantage of Mobile Phones is usually given to classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Those old-fashioned landlines may still have a place, but only 28% of American households have one.
Earlier this year, AT&T users in many of the most populous cities in the US woke up to no network service on their phones. The major outage lasted more than 12 hours , leaving many people without one of their most critical lines of access to the modern world.
The carrier quickly apologized to customers.
"Keeping our customers connected remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to ensure our customers do not experience this again in the future," the company said in a statement.
AT&T also assured people that the outage was not the result of a cyberattack , and in fact blamed "the application and execution of an incorrect process used as we were expanding our network."
For many customers, the outage was also a reminder of the perils of relying only on mobile phones , and it may have made some people rethink the place of a home device that used to be standard issue but is now nearly obsolete: the landline telephone.
Landlines are telephones that connect to specialized wiring in our homes. The iconic image is that of a rotary-dial phone -- usually rented from the phone company -- that either hung on the wall or sat on a counter or table, though push-button and later cordless landlines replaced many of those oldsters in the 1980s. Landline phones connect to one another through a global communication network that was built over more than a century. But as cellphones became broadly available and affordable, many people chose to drop their landlines altogether.
A 2022 survey by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that only about 29% of US adults lived in a house with a landline phone, down from more than 90% in 2004. The crossover happened around 2015, which was also when smartphone sales entered a boom period that reshaped the tech industry and helped turn iPhone maker Apple into one of the world's most highly valued companies .
Ann Williams is one of the folks who haven't given up on their landlines yet. When asked why she keeps hers around, she describes moving to Huntsville, Alabama, after a tornado outbreak on April 27, 2011, when dozens of twisters killed at least 250 people and knocked out power for days. Although she moved there after the tornadoes, hearing about the event brought home to her the importance of always needing a phone connection.
"The weather here is so unpredictable," she told me in an interview. But landlines have dedicated power, and often work even in an outage. "We remember a day when it was absolutely necessary to have (the landline)," Williams said.
Landline phones operate on a separate infrastructure, built from copper phone lines that are inexpensive to build and rather reliable. They also don't have the drawbacks of cellular networks, like dropped calls, poor and distorted quality or weak reception.
A key reason people keep landlines around is that they tend to work even during power outages, which is a big plus for folks whose work involves emergency services, business or health care.
Analog fax machines are also built around landline phone systems, which means most hospitals and doctor's offices, as well as policy and law offices, need to keep a landline connection running.
The US Federal Communications Commission is phasing out requirements for phone companies to provide landline services (called Plain Old Telephone Service, or POTS) across the country. As a result, more homes and business offices are being built with ethernet jacks rather than phone jacks .
Landline phone connections aren't cheap, either. CNET corporate cousin AllConnect notes that AT&T's traditional home phone plan starts at $48 per month, and you have to use the company for internet too. CenturyLink is cheaper, starting at $30 per month, and Spectrum will charge as little as $20 per month.
And not all landlines use copper phone lines. Increasingly, companies are piggybacking their phone systems on their internet connections, a service called Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP. AllConnect currently tracks only three service providers offering old-style landlines: CenturyLink, Comcast Xfinity, and Cox.
If you're ready to get set up with a landline, call the local phone company and ask about phone services. If you live in an apartment building, it's important for you to find out where the phone junction box is. Typically, the landlord should know, and if not, the local phone company should be able to find it.
Here are some follow-up questions you want to ask, and what to look for in the answers:
If you have a landline but leave it languishing, just sucking money out of your bank account each month, you aren't alone. But there are some ways to make it more useful.
Google Voice is a popular option, giving you a new phone number that acts as a sort of hub. Whenever people call, Google Voice then calls every phone to which you have it connected, be it a home landline, a cellphone, a work phone or anything else.
There are other such services too, including Zoom and RingCentral , if you don't like working with Google.
A landline phone can also connect with home security systems and medical alert sensors to help ensure that if you're in an emergency, help will be there as soon as possible.
If you're ineligible for a landline, or don't like the service being offered, you do have more options from satellite providers. Companies such as HughesNet and SpaceX can support VoIP over their internet connections.
Phone makers like Apple are also slowly building satellite messaging into their devices. The iPhone 14, which debuted in 2022, has a feature called Emergency SOS , which can connect with a satellite to send location data to your friends or an emergency text to authorities.
