Most Gift Baskets Are Terrible. These Are Great.

A few key items from each gift basket we recommend displayed together.

By Gabriella Gershenson , Anna Perling and Wirecutter Staff

Gift baskets often get a bad rap, and many deserve it for their uninspired or mismatched components: stale crackers, gritty chocolate, Red Delicious apples that are anything but. We wanted to find the standout choices, gift baskets that would be delightful all year long.

After considering more than 125 gift baskets since 2018, we found 23 outstanding options. We found other baskets that we thought were worth mentioning, too. So under some of our main picks, we included baskets that we thought you may also like.

We also have a section featuring other gift baskets that we recommend, with caveats. In all, that means there are 36 gift baskets to choose from in this guide.

The research

Gift baskets for snacking or feasting, sweet gift baskets, gift baskets for the cook, gift baskets for coffee and tea lovers, other good gift baskets, why you should trust us, how we picked and tested, a treasure chest of treats: bokksu seasons of japan snack box.

The contents of the Bokksu Snack Box, each in illustrated wrappers, shown in and around the bright orange box they came in.

Bokksu Seasons of Japan Snack Box

Supercharged japanese snacks.

This curated snack box is full of shelf-stable Japanese delights. There are longer-term subscription options, but we recommend choosing one month, for a single Seasons of Japan box.

Buying Options

Why it’s great: Bokksu’s Seasons of Japan Snack Box is filled with thoughtfully chosen, individually wrapped snacks in a multitude of dazzling flavors. A booklet explains where each item comes from, its significance, and potential allergens.

A note on ordering: When you place a one-month order, you get the Seasons of Japan Snack Box that we recommend. This is the only buying option that comes with free shipping, an e-gift message, and no receipt.

What’s inside: This box includes 22 Japanese snacks, candies, and teas . It seemed like enough to last one person a week or two or to tide over several people for a few days.

Some standout items included the snappy Edamame Senbei (a salty-sweet cracker dusted with soybean powder), the freeze-dried White Strawberry injected with white chocolate, and Seaweed Tempura Setouchi Sudachi (a citrusy, salty, and earthy morsel of crisped rice clusters and seaweed).

The box also held a few meh snacks. The baked goods were blandly sweet though satisfyingly carby, and green-tea packets were nice but basic compared with the showstoppers.

Potential allergens: wheat, soy, milk, shellfish, eggs, alcohol, peanuts, tree nuts (Bokksu has a disclaimer saying the allergens are translated from the package as a reference, but it cannot guarantee their presence.)

Lots to nosh (both savory and sweet): Zingerman’s The Weekender Gift Box

The Zingerman's gift box, with its contents displayed inside. The box has fun cartoons about the company on it.

Zingerman’s The Weekender Gift Box

Carby, comforting treats.

This ample gift box includes both sweet and salty treats.

Why it’s great: Zingerman’s The Weekender Gift Box is one of the Michigan-based grocer’s most popular items. This solid snacking collection would be appreciated at a gathering or as a treat for someone who needs a pick-me-up.

Zingerman’s is a wonderful gift-basket resource for many occasions, from sending condolences to celebrating holidays . You can even customize a gift .

What’s inside: The Weekender box covers the sweet and savory bases. From the latter group, you can make a meal out of Zingerman’s Farm Bread, Holy Cow Beef Sticks, and Nor’easter Cabot Cheddar. And there’s a generous array of desserts, including the no-nut Black Magic Brownie, Ginger Jump-Up Molasses Cookie, Sour Cream Coffee Cake, and Zingerman’s Peanut Brittle.

We like that this basket packs a lot in—and many of the contents don’t have to be eaten immediately. Though we found the baked goods a little generic, they were still tasty and fresh. We particularly enjoyed the tangy coffee cake and the fudgy brownie, and we appreciate that the latter is nut-free.

The Weekender comes in a colorful, cartoon-printed box with paper confetti, so it feels very festive.

Potential allergens: dairy, walnuts, peanuts

Cheese with Northeastern terroir: Jasper Hill Farm The Vermonter

The contents of Jasper Hill's The Vermonter box nestled among wood shavings inside a vibrant blue and white box.

Jasper Hill Farm The Vermonter

Award-winning cheeses.

This basket from an award-winning cheese maker had the best-tasting cheeses and crackers of all the options we tried.

Why it’s great: The cheeses in Jasper Hill Farm’s The Vermonter gift basket are made at the company’s Vermont creamery or ripened in its aging facility, and they embody the terroir of the Northeast.

With selections that are approachable and delicious, this basket is one we’d gladly give to friends, colleagues, and turophiles alike. One tester went so far as to call this basket “a true superstar,” and we agree.

What’s inside: Compared with other cheese baskets we tried, this one offered the best balance of complex and down-to-earth flavors. We loved the luscious, spruce-bark-wrapped Harbison (a bloomy rind cheese ). Even the pickiest eaters enjoyed the Cabot Clothbound Cheddar, which is salty and tangy, with subtle notes of caramel. The two other cheeses rotate; currently they are the Willoughby, which Jasper Hill describes as a “succulent and buttery washed-rind cheese,” and the Alpha Tolman, a nutty, Alpine-style cheese.

The basket also comes with some quality snacks: Sugarbob’s Spiced Pecans and Brewer’s Sea Salt Flatbread (or a gluten-free alternative). You can add a bottle of Ellie’s Maple Syrup (for another $12).

Each cheese is tastefully wrapped in butcher paper, and the gift items come tucked in a bed of rustic wood shavings.

Potential allergens: dairy, tree nuts, wheat

Shipping: free in the US for orders $99 and up

You may also like: Formaggio Kitchen gift baskets, which start at $75 and are big enough to nibble on for a few days. And this may be a better choice for people who prefer a mix of European and American cheeses.

The smallest-size Apprentice Cheese Bundle includes four cheeses, with the option to add on crackers, jam, or dried apricots. (Larger versions can include various additional items, such as salami, olives, dried fruit, and almonds.)

Cured meats for what ails them: Olympia Provisions Euro Charcuterie Box

The contents of the Olympia Provisions box. Sausages wrapped in brown paper are displayed among cheese, crackers, and more.

Olympia Provisions Euro Charcuterie Box

A charcuterie feast.

This generous sampler of dry-cured sausages and pâté—from a renowned European-style salumeria—comes with an array of top-notch accouterments.

Why it’s great: The Olympia Provisions Euro Charcuterie Box offers a hearty and varied spread—a veritable charcuterie board in a box. The Portland, Oregon–based salumeria uses Old World techniques and Pacific Northwest pork to create its utterly delicious cured meats and pâtés. Carnivores will appreciate the care that goes into every item in this basket.

What’s inside: This box is a cured-meat-lover’s dream. It includes three different styles of salami, a seasonal pâté, a wheel of seasonal cheese, Jacobsen honey, Olympia Provisions pickled beets, crackers, Oregon dry-roasted hazelnuts, mixed olives, and grain mustard.

The charcuterie is the main event, and it’s nothing short of exquisite. We particularly enjoyed the spicy chorizo rioja, the cumin-spiked loukaniko, and the smooth, nutty pork-and-pistachio pâté. Complementary items, like the briny pickled beets, help cut the richness of it all. We haven’t tried the Point Reyes Toma , the seasonal cheese at the time of publishing, but we’re confident it’s worthy of the other items in the box.

This gift is pricey, but we think the quality and the level of craftsmanship warrant the cost. “I’m not a charcuterie person, but these are delicious,” one tester said.

Potential allergens: dairy, tree nuts, wheat; processed in a facility with fish, dairy, wheat, eggs, and nuts

A deli spread to feed a crowd: Katz’s Birthday Box

The contents of Katz's Birthday Box. Pastrami, corned beef, and cheese are piled up on plates in front of the other goods.

Katz’s Birthday Box

A deli meal for the ages.

Send a little bit of New York City to loved ones, with this jam-packed box of sandwich fixings (and more) from one of the country’s most cherished delicatessens.

Why it’s great: Mail order has been part of Katz’s legacy for generations. “Send a salami to your boy in the Army” was its slogan during World War II, and the tradition is still going strong.

Katz’s Birthday Box is a great gift for a homesick New Yorker or for anyone who will relish an easy deli meal for a crowd. Simply put the contents on the table, and lunch is ready. Comforting as it is, it’s also a good bereavement gift.

What’s inside: Katz’s Birthday Box is an embarrassment of riches and an excellent value. It includes 1 pound each of pastrami, corned beef, and Swiss cheese, plus rye bread, sauerkraut, Russian dressing (should someone want to make a Reuben), 1 quart each of full-sour and half-sour pickles (because why choose?), mini black-and-white cookies, and, of course, mustard.

The food arrives neatly stacked with ice packs in a well-insulated box, which is illustrated with an iconic street view of Katz’s that will make a pastrami lover’s pulse quicken. You can also add a personalized greeting. The meat comes in vacuum-sealed packets, with heating instructions that are easy to follow—just slide the packets into simmering water, warm through, and serve.

A cornucopia of handmade confections: Valerie Confections Large Gift Set

An open Valerie gift set, with products nestled in shredded paper. Two elegant chocolate boxes are tied with gold ribbon.

Valerie Confections Large Gift Set

A sweets-filled box that’s both crowd-pleasing and sophisticated.

This generous box of beautifully executed treats includes something for every type of sweet tooth: assorted toffees, caramels, homemade jams, and chocolate bars.

Why it’s great: The Large Gift Set from Los Angeles–based Valerie Confections is a true crowd-pleaser—suitable for people with a straight-up sweet tooth and those who go gaga over refined technique.

What’s inside: The box includes an 18-piece Baby Grand Assortment (a pick in our boxed chocolate guide ), Almond Toffee Treats, two jars of fresh jam (Blenheim apricot and a seasonal flavor), two bars of chocolate (bittersweet and milk chocolate with toasted rice and black sesame), and a box of chocolate-coated caramels (almond fleur de sel and toasted rice).

Our panel was smitten with most of this box’s contents, but the toffees were the big stars—both the thin, snappy ones in the Baby Grand Assortment and the chunky Almond Toffee Treats. Though the selection is dominated by classic flavors, it also holds some surprises, such as the Baby Grand Assortment’s uncanny Mint Toffee and nose-tickling Black Pepper Truffle. The only disappointment was the toasted rice caramel, which tasted a bit musty.

The items come in an elegant, ribbon-wrapped box with the company’s gold logo. You can add a note at checkout.

For $100, Valerie Confections offers the smaller Classic Gift Set , which includes some treats from the Large Gift Set, plus others we haven’t tried.

What dreams are made of: Jeni’s Best Sellers Collection

Five frosty and colorful containers of Jeni's ice cream stacked on top of each other.

Jeni’s Best Sellers Collection

Raising pints to another level.

The extra-creamy best-selling flavors from a renowned ice cream maker will delight the 6-year-old in just about anyone.

Why it’s great: Nothing beats the drama of opening an unassuming foam box and being greeted by theatrical wisps of dry-ice vapor, and the giddy realization that you’ve been air-mailed five pints of ice cream. Behold the Jeni’s Best Sellers Collection .

Jeni’s, based in Columbus, Ohio, is well known for making extra-creamy frozen treats with fun flavors that are special enough to warrant shipping them around the country. Tasters said they would send this for a holiday, a birthday, or a breakup; we think ice cream is a perennially appealing gift.

What’s inside: This gift box offers a sampling of the company’s most popular pints: Brown Butter Almond Brittle, Darkest Chocolate, Salted Peanut Butter With Chocolate Flecks, Salty Caramel, and Brambleberry Crisp.

We especially loved the salty-sweet Salted Peanut Butter, the deeply buttery Salty Caramel, and the tart and refreshing Brambleberry Crisp. If those flavors don’t speak to you, Jeni’s has other collections to choose from, including gluten-free options and dairy-free pints that are among the favorites in our guide to vegan ice cream .

Potential allergens: dairy; other potential allergens vary per flavor

Classic ice cream treats: Graeter’s Signature Chip Gift Selection and Assorted Chip Wheelies 12-Pack

A box of Graeter's Assorted Chip Wheelies, with pints of Graeter's ice cream spread out in front of it, and two plates with an ice cream sandwich on each of them.

Graeter’s Signature Chip Gift Selection

Classic ice cream from an ohio favorite.

This six-pint pack, from a fourth-generation ice cream maker, includes flavors loaded with the company’s signature massive, fudgy chocolate shards.

gift presentation baskets

Graeter’s Assorted Chip Wheelies 12-Pack

For chipwich lovers.

With this gift box, you can get a few of Graeter’s chip-laden flavors in ice-cream-sandwich form.

Why it’s great: Ice cream from Graeter’s is an if-you-know-you-know kind of gift. The Ohio-based business, in operation since 1870, has acquired a nationwide cult following for its broadly appealing frozen desserts in classic flavors. So for loved ones who adore ice cream, we recommend Graeter’s Signature Chip Gift Selection and the Assorted Chip Wheelies 12-Pack .

What’s inside: The Signature Chip Gift Selection comes with six pints, and the over-the-top Chip Wheelies are basically Chipwiches, but better. For loved ones who prefer vegan options, you can choose a six-pack of Graeter’s Perfect Indulgence vegan pints —among the best ice cream doppelgängers we’ve tried (and we’ve tried many ). But two of the included pints are duplicates, and overall we liked the vegan offerings from Jeni’s even better.

The Signature Chip Gift Selection features six flavors—including the beloved Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip —all stippled with the company’s uniquely soft and fudgy chocolate shards, which can be massive. While the chips are a selling point for many Graeter’s fans, the occasional mouthful of chocolate was too much of a good thing for some tasters. But the ice cream itself got high marks—one tester called the Mint Chocolate Chip refreshing and sharp, and another tester enjoyed the interplay of chocolate and fruity black raspberry. (If chocolate chips aren’t your thing, you can assemble your own gift pack .)

The Assorted Chip Wheelies were the crowd favorite. No one could deny the appeal of densely packed ice cream crammed between two hulking chocolate-chunk cookies, rolled in chocolate sprinkles. Did we mention they’re big? Just one of these could satisfy a couple of people. You can order a box of 12 Vanilla Chocolate Chip Wheelies or the Assorted Chip Wheelies 12-Pack (the one we tried), which includes Vanilla Chocolate Chip, Double Chocolate Chip, and Black Raspberry Chip. The cost is steep, but the satisfaction is real, and your recipient will feel properly spoiled.

Seasonal fruit in ice cream form: Frog Hollow Farm Ice Cream Sandwiches

Bundles of ice cream sandwiches from Frog Hollow Farm, some wrapped, some unwrapped.

Frog Hollow Farm Ice Cream Sandwiches

Lovingly made ice cream sandwiches for fruit aficionados.

The organic fruit that Frog Hollow Farm is famous for is channeled into these delicately flavored, fine-tuned ice cream sandwiches.

Why it’s great: Frog Hollow Farms has long been respected for the quality of its California-grown, organic mail-order fruit. These frozen treats take the bounty to the next level by sandwiching fruity ice cream between yieldingly soft homemade cookies.

What’s inside: Our box was stacked with 12 individually wrapped, brick-shaped ice cream sandwiches in the following orchard-driven flavors: apricot, peach, pear caramel, and pluot (they may vary depending on the season). They were layered between buttery vanilla-scented wafers, with the exception of the pear-caramel, which was paired with spiced ginger cookies.

The luscious ice cream delivers on its fruit-filled promise: As it melts, the flavors of the fruit come forward, whether it’s tangy pluot or ripe, heady pear. The cookies complement both the flavor and texture of the ice cream (the pairing of ginger with pear-caramel is especially successful). The sandwiches, all a bit irregular in size and shape, look charmingly handmade. They also have an impressively short list of ingredients , most of them organic.

The price (about $13 apiece) set our expectations high, but we weren’t disappointed. Our tasters agreed that these would be a lovely (if big-ticket) gift, and they would be a welcome addition to any barbecue or dinner party.

The cookies of your dreams: Levain Bakery Signature Cookie Assortment

Two bags of Levain cookies, tied with a blue bow, stand next to a bright blue Levain branded box.

Levain Bakery Signature Cookie Assortment

For the cookie monster in your life.

For sweets aficionados nationwide, you can send a package of these oversize, crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside cookies, which have acquired legions of fans in New York City.

Why it’s great: The Levain Bakery Signature Cookie Assortment includes the beloved New York City–based bakery’s massive, mouth-watering cookies. This gift is sure to impress anyone who loves a formidable baked good.

What’s inside: This gift box comes in packs of four, eight, or 12 hulking, 6-ounce cookies (yes, that’s the weight per cookie). The flavors cover the classics: Chocolate Chip Walnut, Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip, and Oatmeal Raisin. (And though we enjoyed this variety, gift boxes are also available in single and limited-edition flavors .)

Part of the cookies’ charm is that they’re crammed with whatever mix-ins they promise. This box comes with easy-to-follow reheating instructions, so the recipient can replicate the fresh, ooey-gooey cookie interiors that are Levain hallmarks.

We also admired the efficient yet attractive packaging: The cookies come in a single box, stacked four apiece in cellophane bags tied with ribbon, and nestled in nooks that prevent them from jostling during transit. It’s a miracle of design that they arrived with nary a crumb out of place.

The checkout process is simple and transparent: When you place an order, a calendar shows the shipping cost of each delivery day. There’s also a clear prompt to include a card.

Potential allergens: dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts

Shipping: $12 to $20 for a pack of eight

You may also like: The seasonal Gingerbread and Cookies box ($64) from Coquine in Portland, Oregon, is excellent. It includes a loaf of English-style gingerbread and a dozen Coquine Chocolate Chip Cookies with smoked almonds and salted caramel. The duo is available from mid-November until January, but you can also order just the cookies ($39 for a dozen) year-round.

We were impressed by the tender-crumbed gingerbread, and we enjoyed the traditional flavors of molasses and candied ginger. The cookies were in a class by themselves, crispy on the outside and slightly chewy within, with the smoked almonds and salt adding a savory complexity.

Shipping to the West Coast is around $15; shipping to the East Coast can be as much as $35.

A bounty of tropical fruit: Miami Fruit Variety Box

A variety of fruit in different shapes, colors, and sizes from the Miami Fruit box are nestled among straw-like packaging.

Miami Fruit Variety Box

A box of seasonal tropical fruit.

This vibrant mix of seasonal tropical fruit brings a sunny vacation right to a loved one’s door.

Why it’s great: If you have family or friends who love trying new things or who are fond of tropical produce, the Miami Fruit Variety Box is an awesome gift. It’s especially great for staving off the winter blues. According to the website, Miami Fruit harvests most of its fruit weekly from its own farm or from local farms in southern Florida.

What’s inside: The produce changes seasonally, but each small box (the size we tested) contains 3 to 5 pounds of fruit. Our order included a cacao pod, an avocado, a mamey sapote, a guava, a jujube, a tree tomato, a few varieties of bananas, and some passion fruits and key limes.

The mamey sapote ripened into a soft, delightful mix of flan, pumpkin pie, and papaya. The beans in the cacao pod were covered in wispy white flesh that reminded us of the tropical flavor of mangosteen. Even the conventional fruits tasted special: The bananas were tastier and more tart than supermarket varieties, and the avocado was mildly sweet.

The fruit comes in a cardboard box with plenty of cushioning, along with online ripening guidelines so you know when to enjoy each fruit. The presentation isn’t fancy, but the fruit is so visually appealing that it makes up for it.

Potential allergens: varies by season

Shipping: $20, or free with code FREE (Note: The California Department of Agriculture restricts the entry of many tropical fruits from Florida. The fruits allowed: bananas, black sapote, passion fruit, jackfruit, and white, red, sunrise, and yellow dragon fruit.)

Show-stopping chocolates: Recchiuti Confections Sharing Box

An open Recchiuti Confections Sharing Box, with boxes, bars, and round containers of chocolate, labeled with art-deco text.

Recchiuti Confections Sharing Box

Elegant chocolates.

This luxurious gift box showcases a dazzling assortment of chocolates from one of our favorite chocolatiers.

Why it’s great: The Recchiuti Confections Sharing Box , from the renowned San Francisco confectioner, is an elegantly wrapped, grand display of delicious, handcrafted chocolates. We’d also send this as a formal gift to pretty much anyone who loves sweets.

What’s inside: This box includes a generous array of confections—the nine-piece Sepia Collection of exquisitely crafted truffles; cacao nib and fleur de sel mendiants (chocolate discs); fleur de sel caramels; dark hot chocolate; a dragée sampler of chocolate-coated nuts and dried fruit; and three chocolate bars (dark milk, semisweet, and bittersweet).

The silky texture and complex flavor of Recchiuti’s chocolate stands apart from the waxiness and cloying sweetness of lesser-quality chocolate we’ve tried. The chocolatier’s judicious use of flavorings enhances the quality, rather than distracting from it. In the Sepia Collection, we were most taken with the Peanut Butter Puck, an epicurean version of a Reese’s, with a silky, dark milk chocolate shell and velvety filling. We also enjoyed the rich, satiny salted caramels, as well as the chocolate bars, which perfectly balance bitter and sweet flavors and dissolve on the tongue.

The Sharing Box is a stylish gift and a great value. But if you’re looking for something smaller, we recommend the 16-piece Recchiuti Black Box .

Potential allergens: milk, peanuts, soy, tree nuts (almonds, hazelnuts), and wheat; made on equipment shared with milk, eggs, peanuts, soy, tree nuts, and wheat

Shipping: $14 to $30

A selection of uniquely flavored jams: We Love Jam Gift Box

Six jars from the We Love Jam Gift box stacked on top of each other. They range in color from a pale orange to a deep purple.

Welovejam Discount Jam Gift Box 6 pack

A delicious selection of jams.

These distinctly flavored jams are nuanced and delicious, with a fresh, delicate consistency.

Why it’s great: With its bright, flavorful jams, the We Love Jam Gift Box would make a great gift for toast fanatics, brunch lovers, and bakers who enjoy using exquisite jams in their baked goods.

We appreciate the jams’ loose, spreadable consistency, which feels indicative of their freshness. And we like that you can choose which jams you want in your box.

What’s inside: This gift box includes six handmade jams of exceptional quality, some of which are only seasonally available. (The company also offers two-jar and four-jar gift boxes; to find them, scroll down on the website.)

The blueberry lemon jam, which tasted like a slice of berry pie, was among our favorites. The Blenheim apricot had a striking fresh-fruit flavor, and it was far more nuanced than any premium jams you might find at the grocery store. The vanilla blackberry entry exhibited a mellow sweetness, while the raspberry mango passion fruit jam was tart and incredibly balanced (somehow all three flavors dazzled).

The jars come neatly packed in an understated cardboard gift box filled with crinkly shredded paper. Ordering is straightforward: Before you add the box to your cart, just select the flavors you’d like, and write a message for the gift note.

North African– and Middle Eastern—inspired spices and condiments: New York Shuk The Harissa Collection

The Harissa Collection jars next to each other. There are two bigger jars and three smaller spice jars.

New York Shuk The Harissa Collection

Deluxe home-style seasonings.

These full-flavored harissa condiments and spice blends will add magic to anything you spread or sprinkle them on.

Why it’s great: Husband and wife Ron and Leetal Arazi’s line of Middle Eastern– and North African–style spices and condiments have gained a devoted following, and for good reason. The offerings in New York Shuk’s The Harissa Collection are a brilliant shortcut to flavor, and they add a depth and complexity that would be hard to achieve on your own.

What’s inside: This collection includes two types of harissa (a spreadable, chili-based condiment), as well as three harissa-inspired spice blends.

The condiments are “cozy and impressive at the same time,” said Wirecutter editor Marilyn Ong. “They taste like someone just pulled them off the stove after hours of simmering and ladled them into a jar.”

The spice blends can elevate simple preparations, including roast chicken and salads. For example, just roasting cauliflower in the Herby Harissa Spice will fill your kitchen with beautiful aromas (and a flavor to match).

Our testers fawned over the lushly illustrated labels, whose appeal makes up for the fact that the jars are packed in a regular brown box with practical paper wrapping. You’ll also have to let the recipient know the present was from you—gift messages are not an option at checkout.

Spices for the capsaicin-curious: Burlap & Barrel Chili Collection

Six spice jars inside the Burlap and Barrel Chili Collection, tightly packed. The box has a red and white pattern on it.

Burlap & Barrel Chili Collection

A world of chilies.

Ranging from sweet to spicy, this super-fresh selection of chilies will thrill the heat-seeking home cook.

Why it’s great: Burlap & Barrel’s single-origin spices are among the freshest and most flavorful we’ve tried, and they range from the usual suspects (cinnamon, bay leaves) to more-unique offerings (black lime, wild mesquite). We especially like the Chili Collection as a gift for the heat-seeking home cook.

What’s inside: The half-dozen dried chiles in this box represent culinary traditions from around the globe: Smoked Pimentón Paprika from Spain, Silk Chile Flakes from Turkey, Red Jalapeño Chile Flakes from California, Noble Sweet Paprika and Szegedi 178 Hot Paprika from Hungary ... you get the idea.

When Wirecutter editor Marilyn Ong cooked chicken paprikash using Burlap & Barrel’s Noble Sweet Paprika , she said it “felt like something I had only experienced in black and white suddenly came to life in color.”

To indicate the spices’ heat levels, Burlap & Barrel’s “ chili chart ” (the second picture in the slideshow) shows where the spices fall on the spectrum of hot to not hot.

If you prefer a different mix, you can assemble your own , or check the other collections . (For a gift that skews more sweet than savory, we recommend the Baking Collection , an excellent starter kit.)

The jars are packed in a well-designed box, which protects them in transit and is emblazoned with the Burlap & Barrel logo. You can also add a gift message at checkout.

Six cans of spices from the Diaspora Co. Build Your Own Spice Shelf, lined up.

Diaspora Co. Build Your Own Spice Shelf

Superior spices.

These super-fresh, single-origin spices will enhance your giftee’s everyday cooking.

Why it’s great: The Diaspora Co. Build Your Own Spice Shelf lets you choose from dozens of heirloom spices sourced from family farms in India and Sri Lanka. The place of origin and date of harvest are printed on each jar, so your loved one will never have to cook with stale spices again.

What’s inside: Three, six, or nine spices of your choosing. Consider starting with turmeric —the spice that owner Sana Javeri Kadri built her business on—and branch out from there.

Guntur Sannam chilies are vibrant red peppers whose sweetness is balanced by a warm, slow-spreading heat. Aranya black peppercorns are so big that they can be mistaken for capers. Grinding them unleashed a nose-tickling floral scent; they elevated the simplest dishes, like avocado toast and scrambled eggs.

Thanks to the well-designed website, building a spice set is fun. Although the set arrives in a relatively plain brown box, the spices themselves are packed in bright, beautiful tins, with labels that are both decorative and informational.

For an extra dollar, you can toss in an adorable aluminum spice spoon .

A taste of Chengdu: Fly By Jing By Jing Box

A green Fly By Jing gift box, with condiments from Fly By Jing on top of it and beside it.

Fly By Jing By Jing Box

Spicy sichuan condiments.

Fly By Jing’s beloved sauces and oils contribute heat and intricate flavor to just about anything you’re eating.

Why it’s great: Fly By Jing’s By Jing Box includes a fiery lineup of condiments that are sure to add excitement and sophistication to any home-cooked meal (or takeout order). These sauces and oils are skillfully made with high-quality ingredients sourced from Sichuan, where Fly By Jing’s founder was born.

What’s inside: This gift box includes Fly By Jing’s signature Sichuan Chili Crisp, Xtra Spicy Chili Crisp, sweet-and-spicy Zhong Sauce, super-versatile Chili Crisp Vinaigrette, legume-studded Chengdu Crunch, and Sichuan Gold chili oil (an immaculate high note of ginger, garlic, and numbing spice that makes soup dumplings sing).

All of the condiments in this box—including the widely adored Sichuan Chili Crisp—can add layers of flavor to any dish. The Chili Crisp Vinaigrette , a blend of aged black vinegar, premium soy sauce, and chili crisp, is a salve for leftovers. It can create a sophisticated salad out of just about anything in your fridge: the previous night’s dumplings, some forgotten cucumbers, or those last few leaves of lettuce in the crisper.

Our new favorite is the Chengdu Crunch, which is like an extra-chunky version of the original Chili Crisp. It offers a similarly addictive spice, but the jar is crowded with protein-packed legumes and seeds, all toasted to a glorious, satisfying crunch. (It’s reminiscent of salsa macha, but there are no nuts at this party.) We’ve put it on fried eggs, slathered it on pizza, spooned it over congee, and more. And it steals the show every time.

Potential allergens: sesame oil in all jars but the Sichuan Gold; soy and sesame in the Chengdu Crunch; and wheat, soy, and sesame in the Zhong Sauce

Shipping: free for orders over $65

You may also like: If your recipient is more interested in pantry items than condiments, The Mala Market , an importer of premium ingredients from Sichuan, has Pantry Collections (ranging from $30 to $135) that showcase the numbing ma and spicy la flavors that are the hallmarks of the regional kitchen.

The Starter Sichuan Collection sets you up with citrusy da hong pao peppercorns , facing heaven zi dan tou chilies (the star of kung pao chicken ), fragrant-hot ground chili flakes, and three-year-old doubanjiang (a broad-bean-and-chili paste that’s the backbone of classic dishes such as mapo tofu).

Imported Italian goodies: Gustiamo Party in Cucina Basket

The contents of the Gustiamo Party in Cucina box, nestled among shredded paper inside a rustic wooden crate.

Gustiamo Party in Cucina Gift Basket

An edible celebration of italy.

This box features a sampling of edible Italian delights for throwing together a simple pasta dish. It also includes ground coffee and a jar of chocolate hazelnut spread, for an after-dinner treat.

Why it’s great: Gustiamo is a Bronx, New York–based Italian American food importer known for sourcing quality ingredients from Italy. This company offers a wide selection of beautifully curated gift baskets, but we think the luxurious Gustiamo Party in Cucina Gift Basket is approachable enough that it will appeal to most recipients, whether they’re clients, colleagues, or family members.

What’s inside: This box provides all of the ingredients for creating a quick pasta dish: a bag of durum wheat semolina pasta, canned San Marzano tomatoes, crushed Castelvetrano olives marinated in herb-infused oil, a large bag of coarse sea salt (not pictured), and a bottle of gorgeous Quinta Luna extra virgin olive oil. This box also includes a bag of wood-roasted ground coffee and a jar of Piemontese chocolate hazelnut spread that’s like a thoroughbred Nutella.

We wanted to taste the ingredients as simply as possible. So we cooked the pasta al dente, and then we tossed it with an improvised puttanesca-style sauce, made with the gift basket’s sweet-tart tomatoes, pungent olives, and aromatic olive oil. The result was outstanding, with each best-in-class ingredient pulling its weight.

We love that these goodies come packaged in a reclaimed wooden crate, which makes everything feel even more special.

A big box of the best beans: Rancho Gordo Deluxe Gift Box

Bags of beans in the Rancho Gordo gift box are nestled in red paper shreds. Also shown is a folded tote bag and a book.

Rancho Gordo Deluxe Gift Box

Heirloom beans.

For cooking enthusiasts who have tasted it all before, these heirloom beans and the accompanying cookbook will inspire creativity in the kitchen.

Why it’s great: Rancho Gordo is a California company dedicated to sourcing the highest-quality beans from Mexico, California, Oregon, Washington, and New Mexico. Too often, beans are an afterthought. And we believe the Rancho Gordo Deluxe Gift Box will win the hearts of vegans, vegetarians, and anyone who appreciates quality ingredients or unique heirloom foods.

What’s inside: The Deluxe Gift Box includes five 1-pound bags of colorful heirloom beans that are sure to be unlike anything you’ve ever tasted. They’re springy, with a creamy and tender inside, and they can possess a subtle, nutty sweetness. Each bag of beans comes with simple cooking instructions.

The offerings change based on what’s available: The company harvests every fall and sells most of its beans within that year. So everything is fresh—you don’t even have to soak the beans overnight, as you would dried beans from the supermarket. Also, when stored in a dark, cool, dry place, these beans will keep for a year or two, so the recipient can savor them over time.

The gift box also includes a sturdy canvas tote bearing the company’s logo, a copy of The Rancho Gordo Heirloom Bean Guide , and a postcard with directions for slow-cooker, pressure-cooker, and stovetop methods.

A connoisseur-worthy coffee sampler: Onyx Coffee Lab Collection Box

Neat packages of coffee inside the Onyx Coffee Lab Collection box. The box has small illustrations all over the cardboard.

Onyx Coffee Lab Collection Box

A bean buffet for the coffee buff.

This cleverly packaged sampler of roasted-to-order coffee beans should meet (or exceed) the standards of the coffee enthusiast in your life.

Why it’s great: A curious coffee lover will appreciate the Collection Box , from Rogers, Arkansas–based Onyx Coffee Lab. This cleverly packaged sampler offers beans in varying styles, including single-origin and house blends. All beans are sourced globally and roasted to order.

What’s inside: This box contains eight 4-ounce bags, which smelled heady upon arrival. The cardboard box they come in looks unassuming, but it unfurls like a scroll, revealing intricate line drawings and bags of beans in a palette of appealing colors.

On each bag you’ll find the roasting date, the coffee’s origins, tasting notes, details on how the beans were processed (natural or washed), and where the flavor falls on a scale of “traditional” (chocolaty, nutty) to “modern” (citrusy, floral). One bag makes about four mugs of filtered coffee (enough to provide a sense of each selection and allow the giftee to finish all of the beans while they’re fresh).

We were also impressed with the accuracy of the tasting notes. The Costa Rica Las Lajas Natural—which promises hints of blueberry, vanilla, papaya, and Concord grape—tasted so potently of chocolate-covered blueberries that it could convert flavored-coffee drinkers.

Although the packaging’s intricate graphics seemed info-packed at first, brewing instructions were vague. Instead, we went to the Onyx website and followed the brewing guidance included at the bottom of each coffee listing. We found this to be more helpful.

When you order, there’s an option to leave a gift note at checkout.

You may also like: The Heart Roasters Sample Pack ($55) is another great option for coffee nerds and everyday drinkers alike. It includes four 8-ounce bags of just-roasted beans from the Portland, Oregon, roaster. The beans change seasonally.

Each batch we brewed exhibited the best characteristics of “ third wave ” coffee: clean, distinguishable flavors that emphasize the bean’s unique terroir.

A collection of high-end teas: Harney & Sons Best Sellers

Four elegant and colorful tins of Harney and Sons tea stacked on top of each other.

Harney & Sons Best Sellers 20 Count Sachets

Classic teas for every palate.

Tea lovers will appreciate this collection of high-quality, best-selling teas.

gift presentation baskets

Harney & Sons Best Sellers 4 oz. Loose Tea

A collection of black loose tea.

This set includes the same selection of teas as the best-selling sachets box, but in loose-leaf form.

Why it’s great: If you have a tea lover in your life, you probably can’t go wrong by giving them the Harney & Sons Best Sellers collection (also available in loose-leaf form ). We think the high-quality tea in its extremely elegant, reusable packaging is an excellent value.

What’s inside: The Best Sellers collection features four crowd-pleasing, high-quality teas: English Breakfast, Earl Grey Supreme, Paris, and Hot Cinnamon Spice. (Again, we tried the sachets, but this selection is also available in loose-leaf form .)

The English Breakfast tea was bright and clean, and the Earl Grey (a blend of black and oolong teas, with Italian bergamot oil) was pleasantly aromatic. The Paris blend was tea-forward, with subtle hints of black currant and vanilla.

And the Hot Cinnamon Spice was sweet and cinnamony, but somehow the natural tea flavor was still able to shine through. One of our testers, who’s averse to flavored teas, said, “This was easily the most enjoyable version of cinnamon tea I’ve encountered.”

Each tea comes packaged in a colorful tin, with 20 sachets. The tins fit snugly in an elegant black box with the Harney & Sons logo embossed on the lid.

If you’re buying for tapas fans: Spanish food importer Despaña offers a generous Tapas for Two Gift Box ($100, plus shipping), and it can easily feed more than that. The opportunities for grazing seem endless.

Highlights include anchovy-stuffed olives, three types of Spanish cured pork (Serrano ham and loin, and a massive chorizo link), and delectable Cabo de Peñas tinned sardines. The gift comes in a brown paper box tied with a red ribbon, with an option to add a card. If it weren’t for the expensive shipping, this one would be an excellent value.

If you know some smoked-fish enthusiasts: The salmon in the Russ & Daughters Smoked Salmon Medley ($195, including shipping) is sliced translucently thin, and it’s so buttery that it practically melts in your mouth.

This gift box from the celebrated New York City appetizing shop includes 8 ounces each of Scottish smoked salmon, gravlax, and pastrami-cured salmon, all tidily packaged in branded wax paper. It also includes a pound of cream cheese, a dozen bagels, and a 3-ounce jar of capers.

Our testers agreed that the quality of the fish was unsurpassed. But when it came to the fixings, some of them found the bagels (on the spongy side) and the cream cheese (slightly grainy) to be the weak links.

If you’re seeking a matcha starter kit: The Ippodo Tea Essential Matcha Kit ($150), from the revered Japanese tea shop, includes everything you need for a cup of matcha: 20 grams of grassy Horai matcha tea, a chawan (a matcha tea bowl), a bamboo tea ladle, a tea strainer, and a bamboo whisk with a stand.

This set is as much about the experience of making tea as it is about drinking it, and Ippodo offers clear instructions on how to brew a correct cup. This is a special gift for someone who appreciates the ritual and flavor of fine matcha, and with proper care, the included tools will last for years. But this kind of quality comes at a premium.

Wirecutter editor Gabriella Gershenson has been overseeing our gift-baskets guide since 2022. Her culinary gift recommendations have been featured in publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Saveur, and Time Out New York.

Since 2020, a number of Wirecutter’s kitchen experts—including senior staff writers Lesley Stockton, Michael Sullivan, and Rachel Wharton, and editors Marilyn Ong and Marguerite Preston—have contributed research, testing, and writing to this guide. Collectively, they have decades of experience in the worlds of food and cooking.

Wirecutter contributor Anna Perling wrote our original guide to gift baskets in 2018, in close collaboration with contributor Winnie Yang. Both are food-media veterans. For our original guide, we asked a panel of 16 Wirecutter staff members to weigh in on gift baskets and to consider their presentation, taste, variety, and value.

A tester in a black sweater leans over the table making notes, while another tester wearing a striped apron and white t-shirt spreads a cracker from a gift basket.

We began our research for this guide by asking Wirecutter staffers about their favorite gift baskets—those they’ve given or were happy to receive. We’ve also combed through online guides and reviews of gift baskets, scoured retail sites, and visited the Fancy Food Show to get the lay of the specialty-food land.

Since 2018, we’ve considered 125 nominations for gift baskets. And we set out to find the best options with several criteria in mind:

  • Reasonably priced: We looked for gift baskets under $200 that were a good value with a decent variety of items.
  • Delicious and attractive: We looked for baskets that were nicely packaged and, of course, those we thought offered items that would taste great.
  • Curated: Overall, we searched for baskets that were interesting or unusual, from companies known for quality and attention to detail.
  • Booze-free: We reluctantly eliminated alcohol baskets because they can’t be shipped to many states. (Note that our guides to wine clubs and gifts for cocktail lovers can offer some guidance in this area.)

Since we started testing gift baskets, in 2018, we’ve sampled condiments, brewed coffee and tea, nibbled on cured meat and fish, savored chocolates and cheeses, lapped up ice cream and fresh fruit, and cooked with all manner of pantry staples—you name it, we’ve done it.

We took note of what each basket contained, as well as any potential allergens (if you have serious allergy concerns, always check with the purveyor). We discussed each contender in depth and asked tasters to fill out forms evaluating each basket.

Since 2020, kitchen experts and food writers on Wirecutter’s staff have conducted all of the testing for this guide.

Why Trust Southern Living

Southern Living

Gift baskets not only show how much you care, but can be customized to fit whatever snacks, treats, or foods that the recipient likes. Whether you’re shopping for a holiday, birthday, or special occasion, a gift basket is always a great gift.

According to etiquette expert Diane Gottsman , “A gift basket, filled with wonderful treats, favorite food, and an unexpected surprise, is always a welcome gift.” But with so many retailers and types of gift baskets, it can be difficult to decide the kind of gift basket to send to someone.

To help you select the best gift basket, we put 26 popular options to the test. We paid attention to every part of the process, including ordering and delivery, and evaluated each basket on its variety, freshness, presentation, and size. Our top picks cover a whole range of categories, including fruits, chocolates, ice cream, and more.

Callie's Hot Little Biscuit Share the Love Basket

Callie's Hot Little Biscuit

  • Presentation 4.5 /5
  • Variety 5 /5
  • Freshness of Items 5 /5
  • Value 4.5 /5
  • Delivery 5 /5

The biscuits arrive frozen, so the recipient can take their time enjoying them.

It doesn’t feel very “gifty”.

Aptly named the Share the Love Basket, this breakfast-focused option contains 18 biscuits and a container of pimento cheese. The variety includes six of Callie’s best-selling flavors: buttermilk, cinnamon, and cheese and chive. This type of gift basket is perfect for families and other large groups and stands out since it’s a bit unusual compared to other gift baskets. Since the biscuits arrive frozen, the recipient can make a few at a time to make the gift last longer.

We thought that all the biscuits tasted delicious, with a delightfully crumbly texture. They tasted like something you’d find at a Southern-style restaurant, and the pimento cheese tasted better than options you’d find at a typical grocery store. All in all, we highly recommend this gift basket if you want to share a taste of the South.

Shari's Berries Distinctive Fruit Basket & Sweets Gift Grande

Shari's Berries

  • Presentation 5 /5

The presentation is flawless.

It includes a lot of decoration, which may feel excessive to some people.

If you’re looking for a classic fruit basket, you can’t beat this one from Shari’s Berries. Inside, there are oranges, apples, pears, and chocolate-covered cherries, as well as sweets like chocolate chip cookies and saltwater taffy. We found that everything, including the candies, tasted fresh and delicious. We liked that it was visually appealing as well. We ordered the Grande size, which is the largest and most expensive, but it’s also available in standard and deluxe sizes. Since there’s so much fruit in the basket, they will need to have enough space in the refrigerator to keep everything fresh. Just keep in mind that since it includes a lot of decorative materials, be prepared for cleanup to take a while.

Southern Living / Daniela Galvez

Recchiuti Black Box 16

Recchiuti

The flavors are unique and delicious, and each chocolate is beautifully decorated.

It’s expensive for 16 chocolates.

Although not technically a gift basket, this box of chocolates is definitely a worthy gift. It includes 16 pieces of handmade chocolate (although you can also buy boxes of 32 or 88 if you want even more), so it’s perfect for 1-2 people. After one bite, these chocolates quickly became our favorite. From the unique flavors to the eye-catching designs, this box of chocolates is clearly superior to store-bought ones. Even those who aren’t very adventurous with their palate will enjoy this box, which includes flavors like hazelnut, sesame nougat, lavender vanilla, and peppermint. Even though the company ships the chocolate with an ice pack, the recipient will need to be at home to get the box, or the chocolates could melt on the doorstep.

Di Bruno Bros. Abbondanza Gift Box

Di Bruno Bros.

  • Presentation 4.8 /5
  • Variety 4.8 /5
  • Freshness of Items 4.8 /5

It comes with everything needed to create a unique charcuterie board.

We would have preferred it to come with one more cheese.

While it’s fun to put together a charcuterie board with your friends, sometimes it’s easier to purchase one online. The Abbondanza Gift Box from Di Bruno Bros. contains everything they need for a wine and cheese night: aged cheddar, cheese spread, salami, jam, candied nuts, caramels, crostini crackers, and other delicious treats and snacks.

Since this gift basket has refrigerated items, the company includes ice packs to keep everything fresh. As soon as we opened the box, we saw that none of the products had been damaged or partially opened, and we appreciated the overall presentation. Everything was high-quality and gourmet, and we think it’s a great option for a hostess. The only thing we would improve is adding another block of hard cheese or another type of cheese spread to complete the assortment.

Salt and Straw The Best Sellers Pack

Salt and Straw

  • Presentation 4.7 /5
  • Variety 4.3 /5
  • Freshness of Items 4.9 /5

All the ice creams arrived totally frozen.

There aren’t any fruity flavors included.

One of the best ways to treat someone you love? Gift them five pints of Salt & Straw ice cream. This sweet gift set includes the brand’s classic best-sellers: sea salt and caramel, vanilla, mint chocolate chip, chocolate brownie, and cookie dough. We discovered that these flavors complemented each other really well, although we would have liked to try a fruity-flavored one as well. In terms of delivery, we were impressed that the ice cream arrived totally frozen with zero melting, and we loved that it tasted like it was just made yesterday. Even the vegan flavor was delicious—in fact, it was our favorite of the five. You can also make it a subscription, with delivery every 30, 60, or 90 days.

Southern Living / Laura Miller

Harry & David The Favorite Royal Riviera Pears

Harry & David

  • Freshness of Items 4.3 /5
  • Delivery 4 /5

Each pair is neatly packaged.

The pears were slightly bruised on arrival.

Besides being a sweet snack, pears can be added to different desserts , salads, and drinks. This pear gift box includes simple and includes just nine gourmet Riviera pears that are all wrapped in tissue paper. One thing to note, though: Even though the description says nine pears are included, we only received eight. Still, we appreciated that the pears weren’t quite ripe on arrival, which allowed us to enjoy them for longer and not worry about eating them all right away. This type of gift basket is best for 1-3 people, and is more unique than the standard fruit basket. You can also slice the pears up and serve them as appetizers at different gatherings.

Southern Living / Jamie Weissman

Valerie Large Gift Set

  • Variety 4.5 /5

It’s much more elevated than your typical box of chocolates.

It’s very expensive for how much you get.

If you want to take a box of chocolates to the next level, give the Valerie Large Gift Set—in addition to chocolates, it includes two jars of fruit preserves. And it doesn’t just include one box of chocolates, but two (the Baby Grand and Caramel boxes), as well as two chocolate bars and a box of Almond Toffee Treats. Although the price is high for this gift basket, we did feel that each piece of chocolate was high-quality, especially considering the variety. We also loved the presentation of this basket, and think it’s an elevated gift for the chocolate lover in your life.

Southern Living / Joe Morales

Stan's Donuts Donuts & Coffee Lovers Gift Pack

Stan's Donuts

  • Presentation 4.3 /5
  • Variety 4.7 /5
  • Freshness of Items 4.5 /5

The donuts are delicious and fresh.

It’s very expensive considering what you get.

All of the donuts in this gift basket are made from scratch and are ready to eat upon arrival. Not only does this basket include donuts, but it also comes with a whole bean bag of coffee to complete the presentation (just note that the recipient will need to own a coffee grinder to crush the beans). The donuts arrived fresh, and even after letting the donuts sit out on the counter for a while, they did not taste stale. Flavors include cinnamon sugar, vanilla sprinkles, lemon pistachio, coconut, glazed, and apple fritter—although for the price, we wish that more donuts were included. We think that this donut gift basket is a great gift to give to someone who likes donuts but is looking to try something new.

Southern Living / Julia Fields

Universal Yums Care Package

The snacks are from different countries, so there is a lot of variety.

The snacks are more “novelty” than “gourmet”.

If you know someone who likes to snack on churros, gummies, and marshmallows, then this snack gift basket is the perfect gift for them. Besides getting a large amount of snacks (30 in total), the recipient also gets the opportunity to try different flavors from different countries, like South Korea, Spain, Germany, Indonesia, and more. We were very surprised by how quickly we received the basket, but we were disappointed that it didn’t come with any sort of bubble wrap or wrapping paper. This is a particularly great gift for college students, and the recipient can either eat the snacks solo or share them with friends.

Southern Living / Erin Mayer

Vosges Haut-Chocolat Soirée Smash

Vosges Haut - Chocolat

  • Presentation 4 /5
  • Delivery 4.5 /5

It can easily feed a large crowd.

The bar arrived with a crack in it.

Another chocolate gift that we thoroughly recommend is the Sourdough Pretzel & Toffee, which is a chocolate slab , not a bar or box. This extra-large confection contains butter toffee, vanilla marshmallows, pistachios, cherries, and dark chocolate, plus sourdough pretzel for extra crunch. Unlike the Valerie Confections gift, this gift doesn’t come with any additional products. The result is truly delicious, and we loved that it could easily feed a crowd. In fact, we split it amongst 12 people and still had leftovers. Our only concern about this gift is that it could easily melt in a warmer environment, even with the packaged ice packs.

Southern Living / Meg Lappe

A gift basket is a fantastic gift for just about any occasion. After testing 26 gift baskets, there were a few that really stood out. If you’re looking for a unique Southern gift basket, we highly recommend the Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit Share the Love Gift Basket , which is delicious and perfect for someone who loves baked goods. If you’re looking for an elevated box of chocolates, we think the Recchiuti Black Box 16 can’t be beat, thanks to its unique flavors and designs. And if you want a crowd-pleasing fruit basket, the Shari's Berries Distinctive Fruit Basket & Sweets Gift left us speechless with its presentation and delicious flavors.

We tested 26 gift baskets and evaluated them on variety, size, delivery, freshness, quality, and overall value. After ordering each basket, we noted how long shipping took, and how well each basket was packaged. We then tasted the items in each basket and shared them with family and friends, focusing on freshness, quality, and taste. We considered how good the variety was and whether we felt that anything was missing, and took note of the overall presentation. Lastly, we evaluated the overall value, considering the number of items, size, presentation, and quality of the products.

Tips for Choosing the Right Gift Basket

Gift baskets are typically straightforward and contain items that revolve around a theme, like chocolate, fruit, snacks, etc. If you’re not totally sure what the recipient likes, be sure to get a basket that’s full of different types of goodies, like a wide selection of chocolates or fruits. The same goes if you anticipate that the basket will be shared amongst a larger group of people, like a family or party.

Another thing that you should keep in mind is to double-check the contents before ordering. Since you’re not able to build the gift basket yourself, it’s important to make sure that you are aware of what’s included inside of it, especially if the recipient is allergic to a particular ingredient. Note that while companies will advertise certain items for the gift basket, they will have to make substitutions if necessary.

Most companies will provide you with an estimated date of delivery, and many will also provide cut-off dates during the holiday season so you can be sure your basket will arrive in time for a special occasion. Based on our testing, most gift baskets take a few days to arrive, but some can take a week or longer. Many companies ship gift baskets only on certain days at the beginning of the week, so that there’s less of a chance of a weekend delay.

Since there are different types of gift baskets, you’ll find baskets that cost anywhere from $19 to $700. As a general rule, the more expensive the basket, the more snacks, treats, and other items will be included. As you’re shopping for gift baskets, keep in mind that the cost plays a huge factor in the variety of snacks, treats, and other items that are included in the basket. Also, don’t forget the shipping costs. All in all, buying a pre-made gift basket is much more expensive than making one yourself, but you’re paying for the convenience of the company packaging and delivering it for you.

Questions and Answers

What are some good occasions to get someone a gift basket.

A gift basket is always a wonderful gift for any occasion, whether your loved one is sick or you need a host gift for Easter brunch . While you could give someone a singular gift, a gift basket has its own personal touch and lets the recipient know how much they mean to you. Food gift baskets in particular are a good idea for someone who’s going through a tough time, as they allow the recipient to have one less thing to worry about.

Are gift baskets worth buying?

Regardless of how much you spend on a gift basket, they are worth every penny. With gift baskets or boxes, you can send your loved one or friend a decorative basket full of snacks, desserts, fruits, and other items no matter how far they live away from you. Similar to handwritten notes, gift baskets are a nice way to show how much you care about someone.

Can food spoil in a gift basket?

Depending on the types of snacks inside the gift basket, most manufacturers will also include ice packs in the packaging to keep everything fresh. Hotter weather may affect this though, so keep that in mind if you’re sending gift baskets to warmer climates. In our testing, we found that all of our gift baskets arrived perfectly cold and fresh—even the Salt & Straw ice cream .

This gift guide was created by Moriah Mason , a commerce writer for Southern Living . We tested 26 different gift baskets for a variety of occasions, and evaluated each on variety, size, presentation, freshness, delivery, and overall quality. To become more informed about gift baskets, we spoke to Diane Gottsman , an etiquette expert and the owner of The Protocol School of Texas.

Take Our Word for It

What is real simple selects.

Real Simple / Dera Burreson

If you’re unsure what to get someone for a special occasion, whether it’s a birthday or holiday, a great go-to is a gift basket. Gift baskets offer a variety of products instead of just one, and require little effort on the part of the gift giver, making them a great option for people who want to put something special together for their loved ones but don’t have enough time to make it from scratch.

Still, there are many qualities to consider when selecting the right gift basket, including price, packaging, and, of course, the recipient's preferences. To help you weed through the many gift basket options on the market, we spoke with three food gifting experts: Michael Benevides , vice president of Portugalia Marketplace, Cristina Flores , vice president of product at Eataly North America, and Kristin Fisher , founder of Bocu. We also tested 55 different gift baskets ourselves, evaluating them on selection, quality, and overall value.

Best Cookie

Cheryl's cookies classic assortment bow gift box.

Cheryl's

There are six different sizes to choose from, so you can buy for just one person or a whole group.

You can’t customize the cookie assortment, and there isn’t much variety.

If you’re looking to get a gift basket to share with a large group of people, such as family or your favorite coworkers , we think this one from Cheryl’s Cookies is a great option. The gift basket we tested contained 72 cookies and five flavors, which we thought was a great value for the price tag. You get 16 chocolate chip cookies, 16 oatmeal raisin cookies, 16 frosted classic cut-out cookies, 12 sugar cookies, and 12 chocolate obsession cookies.

We were pleased with the taste and found that the cookies remained soft and flavorful, even after sitting in a freezer for two weeks. We were also impressed by the presentation: Each of the cookies came wrapped, creating an individualized experience for each recipient. Since the basket only offered five cookie flavors, we do think there could have been a bit more variety. Still, if you’re looking for cookies, this option can’t be beat.

Best Cheese

Murray's cheese greatest hits.

Murray's Cheese

The cheese is high quality and comes with complementary foods.

There are only four cheese options.

We loved the high-quality cheese included in this Murray’s Cheese basket, and we appreciated the variety as well as the large portions. With this gift basket, you get a block of English cheddar, a mini Brie, cave-aged Gruyère, and a young manchego, as well as other snacks to go with the cheese, including sea salt and olive crackers, Marcona almonds, and spiced cherry preserves. The creamy Brie, in particular, was a standout, and we thought the crackers complemented the cheese very well. We found the cherry preserves to be unique and unlike typical grocery store alternatives.

Given the price, perhaps more items could have been added to the basket, such as charcuterie or even a bottle of wine. Even so, the crackers and almonds were a nice touch. While it does feel like you’re paying for the “Murray’s” name, the basket is worth the splurge for cheese fanatics.

Best for Baked Goods

Harry & david signature bakery tray.

Harry & David

It contains three different types of baked goods.

Some of the products were a bit dry.

Anyone with a sweet tooth will relish the variety of baked goods this gift basket contains. The Harry & David Bakery Tray is a smorgasbord of desserts, including several cookies, ranging from lemon shortbread to walnut chocolate chunk, and cakes, such as an apple streusel loaf cake and a whole lemon poppyseed coffee cake. There are also raspberry galettes, baklava, cinnamon swirls, and more. We liked the variety of baked goods offered, as there is truly something for everyone in this basket.

We found some of the baked goods to be dry, which is to be expected considering that we had to freeze and unthaw them. Even so, we feel that the value of this basket is worthwhile and will save a significant amount of time that would otherwise be spent baking yourself. The Harry & David Bakery Tray comes with 17 total items and a beautiful pine wood tray to display the baked goods to its recipients.

Best Chocolate

Recchiuti black box 16.

Recchiuti

  • Presentation 5 /5
  • Variety 5 /5
  • Freshness of Items 5 /5

The box includes a variety of high-quality flavors, making it suitable for adventurous and non-adventurous eaters.

Each truffle is different, so not everyone will get to try each flavor.

One of the best foodie gifts you can get someone is an assortment of fine chocolates , and we can confidently say that Recchiuti’s Black Box 16 features some of the best chocolates we’ve ever tasted. The best-selling box includes 16 truffles, each featuring a unique flavor and intricate design. We were impressed by the variety and ended up enjoying every single chocolate in the box, even the flavors we don’t typically prefer. We think the wide range of indulgent textures and flavors make this box a real crowd-pleaser.

The box arrived with an ice pack to ensure that the chocolates were fresh upon opening them. Though the packaging itself wasn’t particularly elaborate, we appreciated the luxe, minimalist Black Box aesthetic. It was more expensive than most chocolate boxes, but we think the high-quality flavors and thoughtful designs make it worth the price. While the 16-piece box is ideal for sharing among smaller groups, Recchuiti also offers the Black Box 32  and Black Box 88 for larger crowds. This is a great choice for every chocolate lover, whether they have an adventurous palette or prefer to stick to the basics.

Shari's Berries Distinctive Fruit Basket & Sweets Gift Grande

Shari's Berries

The basket includes a wide variety of snacks, ranging from fruit to sausage.

The brown paper in the packaging is a bit messy when you open it.

While one may not expect fruit gift baskets to be versatile, this basket from Shari’s Berries amazed us with its variety. The basket includes a whopping 37 different fruits and snacks, including pears, apples, chocolate-covered pretzels, butter-toffee mixed nuts, sausage, and more. With a wide selection ranging from sweet to savory, the basket truly has something to please everyone. Given its generous portion, we believe it would be great to serve at a party or share with a large group.

Beyond its variety, we were equally impressed by the basket’s beautiful presentation. It arrived in a wicker basket nicely covered in cellophane, adorned with a bright bow on top. We appreciated that the basket was attractive enough that you wouldn’t have to worry about adding additional packaging to make it a presentable gift. The basket did get a bit messy once we removed the cellophane, though, as the brown shreds of paper were pretty much everywhere. Even so, the secure packaging ensured that none of the fruits were bruised upon arrival.

Though the fruit didn’t necessarily taste different from the organic fruits we’ve tried from the grocery store, we were amazed by the consistent freshness. Every single fruit was in pristine condition, perfect to be eaten right away. Even the pears, which are often susceptible to bruising, were packed in a separate layer beneath the other snacks and perfectly fresh. While it was definitely on the expensive side, we think this would be a good choice for those seeking a healthy, fresh gift basket to share with friends and family.

Universal Yums Care Package

  • Presentation 4.5 /5
  • Value 4.5 /5

It includes a varied assortment of non-perishable snacks from around the world.

It isn’t as gourmet as other gift baskets, and most of the snacks tasted of grocery-store quality.

This exotic gift basket allows you to enjoy some of the tastiest sweet and savory treats from around the globe at home. It offers 20 different snacks, eight of which come in multiples, including sour kiwi gummies, ketchup potato sticks, choco banana wafer rolls, kimchi-flavored soy wheat crackers, and others. Representing South Korea, Spain, Turkey, Germany, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Czechia, this basket provides a worldly experience at your fingertips.

The majority of the snacks were shareable, and the ones that came in personal servings were duplicated so at least two people could try them. The presentation wasn’t anything extraordinary–the snacks came in a simple box with a cute pattern on it–and each snack was individually sealed. Since all of the snacks are prepackaged and non-perishable, we think this gift basket would make for an ideal care package for a college student.

All of the snacks tasted great in our testing. While we, of course, preferred some snacks over others, we found all of them to be extremely fresh. We would say that the appeal of this gift basket is more so novelty than gourmet. A lot of the snacks tasted like typical grocery store items but came in a variety of flavors that you wouldn’t usually find in the U.S. The low price was also a steal given the large quantity. If you’re an adventurous eater eager to expand your palate, this care package might do just the trick.

Best Ice Cream

Salt and straw the best sellers pack.

Salt and Straw

  • Presentation 4.7 /5
  • Variety 4.3 /5
  • Freshness of Items 4.9 /5

The high-quality ice cream stays fresh and cold through transit, tasting as if it were made the night before.

The selection lacks a fruity flavor.

Ice cream lovers will be thrilled to dive into this curated assortment of Salt & Straw’s best-selling pints. This gift basket contains five pints, including sea salt with caramel ribbons, chocolate gooey brownie, double fold vanilla, freckled mint chocolate chip (vegan), and salted, malted chocolate chip cookie dough. The flavors complemented each other well, though we think the selection could have benefited from a fruity touch.

The ice cream arrived in a large, unbranded cardboard box with a couple of damp corners. Despite the damp packaging, we were amazed by how fresh and cold the ice cream stayed in transit, thanks to ClimaCell lining and dry ice. The ice cream tasted like it had been made the day before, with no freezer burn or meltiness whatsoever. The creamy, soft consistency of the sea salt caramel flavor exceeded that of what we’d get from well-known brands like Ben and Jerry’s, and the chocolate flavors were sweet but not too overpowering. Our MVP (most valuable pint) has to be the vegan flavor, which was unlike anything we’ve ever tasted. It was so good that we would even choose it over traditional dairy flavors. The gift basket’s price equates to $15 per pint, far more expensive than anything you’d find in a grocery store, with a $19 shipping charge on top of that. That said, the ice cream’s impressive quality may make it worth the splurge.

Best Biscuits

Callie's hot little biscuit share the love basket.

Callie's Hot Little Biscuit

The biscuits arrive frozen, so you don’t have to rush to eat them by a certain time.

It doesn’t have the appearance of a typical “gourmet” gift basket.

If you’re seeking a non-traditional gift basket to send a friend, consider sharing the love with this biscuit box from Callie’s Biscuits. The basket includes 18 small biscuits in three different flavors: buttermilk, cinnamon sugar, and cheddar and chive. It also comes with a small tub of pimento cheese for spreading. We estimate that this basket could serve six to nine people if all the flavors are prepared at once or three people if you choose to prepare each flavor box separately.

We appreciate that each box of biscuits arrives frozen, so there’s no need to rush to enjoy them while they’re still fresh. This flexibility allowed us to savor the biscuits over an extended period as opposed to eating them in one sitting. They arrived in a huge branded box, which was a bit deceiving given the size of the biscuits themselves, with plenty of dry ice to keep them cold. We were pleasantly surprised to find that, despite being frozen, the contents were not at all wet or soggy. The biscuits tasted perfectly fresh and crumbly, comparable in taste and quality to those served in a Southern-style restaurant. Even the pimento cheese was more flavorful than the grocery store versions we’ve tried.

Best Subscription

Curdbox cheese subscription box.

  • Presentation 4 /5
  • Size 4.5 /5
  • Freshness of Items 4.5 /5

The interactive and informative packaging adds a sense of excitement when opening it.

There is a delay between the order and shipping date, so this isn’t a good last-minute option.

While gift baskets make for nice one-time gifts, Curdbox offers a subscription that keeps the food flowing for three months. Each month has a unique theme, adding an element of surprise to the subscription. The basket includes a total of six items, featuring three artisanal cheeses, a jar of onion jam, and two types of crackers. The cheese selection is diverse, catering to those who like both soft and harder cheeses, in addition to those who prefer bold flavors and subtle ones. We found the softer, creamier cheeses tasted more gourmet than the harder ones. It’s a bonus that the gift basket did the work for us by finding the perfect crackers and onion jam to pair with them.

Its packaging particularly stood out to us. Inside the box, there was a letter explaining the theme and providing a bit of information about each item. It also included a letter with a QR code that directed us to a Spotify playlist featuring songs related to the box’s designated theme. The thoughtful execution of the theme made us even more excited to explore the contents. The cheeses were individually wrapped and placed in silver packaging alongside a disposable ice pack. After sitting on the front porch for approximately six hours, the ice pack had completely melted, and the cheese was only slightly cool to the touch. Though we wish the cheeses remained a bit colder, they still tasted perfectly fresh when we opened them.

Since this is a subscription, the manufacturer notes that the first box you order will be shipped the following month, so the recipient may not receive the package until several weeks later. Due to this delay, we wouldn’t recommend this basket for those seeking a last-minute gift. Even so, it’s the perfect size for sharing, which makes it the ideal gift for a host or hostess looking to impress guests.

Best Savory

Di bruno bros. abbondanza gift box.

Di Bruno Bros.

  • Presentation 4.8 /5
  • Variety 4.8 /5
  • Freshness of Items 4.8 /5

It includes more variety than your standard charcuterie board.

The cheese selection was a bit unexciting, so you may want to add some other cheeses to the mix.

Di Bruno’s Abbondanza Gift Box is sure to elevate anyone’s charcuterie game. The box features all the essentials needed to craft the perfect cheese board, including one aged cheddar block, one cheese spread, pepper shooters, salami, jam, candied nuts, caramels, and crostini. The website mentioned that the box typically comes with peppers, though ours arrived with a black olive tapenade instead. We think this box could easily feed a small gathering of three to five people.

It arrived in a pretty simple box adorned with illustrations and filled with shredded paper. The ice pack kept the contents adequately cold, and nothing was damaged upon arrival. We were impressed by the diverse array of options, as everything tasted super fresh and high quality. While it tasted great, the block of aged cheddar lacked pizazz. We would have preferred if the basket offered a third, more exciting cheese option.

Overall, we wouldn’t consider the gift basket vastly different from what we could get in a grocery store, though the salami, jam, and tapenade did have a particularly gourmet feel. It is a bit more expensive than the median price of a typical gift basket, but we think the varied selection and exceptional quality make it a good value buy. If you’re looking to craft a savory charcuterie board that goes beyond the typical “meat and cheese” selection, we would vouch for this one.

Best for a Group

Eli zabar's nyc deli weekender box.

It includes a varied enough selection of foods to provide a meal, beverage, and dessert.

It’s a bit pricey, and the bagels tasted pre-packaged.

New York is known for its iconic cuisine, and Eli Zabar’s NYC Deli Weekender Box provides enough of The Big Apple’s delicacies for everyone to have a bite. The basket includes six bagels (you can choose two variations between everything, poppy seed, sesame, and cinnamon raisin), two loaves of bread, babka, granola, lox, cream cheese, ground coffee, cookies, jam, cheese crisps, pastrami, and mustard, though we didn’t receive the mustard in ours. Its variety allows for several different food combinations and provides enough ingredients to craft a full meal, including a beverage and dessert. The manufacturer says this gift basket could feed six people, as each person would get their own bagel in addition to other items.

We appreciated that the basket provided an option to choose your delivery date, as opposed to automatically shipping as soon as you order. This allows you to schedule the basket in advance for a specific occasion. It had a pretty standard appearance; everything was packaged neatly, and the perishable items were wrapped in an envelope with an ice pack. We were impressed that nothing was damaged upon arrival–the glass jam jar stayed intact, and the softer items didn’t crumble.

The babka was so good we could hardly stop eating it, and the pastrami and lox were so fresh we would have never guessed they went through transit. We were a bit disappointed by the bagels, though, which tasted like what you’d find at a grocery store. This was unsurprising given the fact that it was pre-packaged, but you shouldn't expect NYC-style bagels. Priced at $270, this was the most expensive gift basket we tested, and we suspect we could buy the same items at a grocery store for less. Still, it’s a fun option for a large group to share.

Magnolia Bakery Best of Magnolia Bakery Sampler Pack

Magnolia Bakery

It includes both baked and non-baked goods.

The banana pudding goes bad fairly quickly and may take up a lot of space in the fridge.

After trying Magnolia's Best of Bakery Sampler, we can attest that the brand's signature banana pudding is a fan favorite for a reason. The sampler includes six pints of banana pudding, four brownies, and four blondies. You can choose between the classic banana pudding pack—including six pints of the traditional flavor—or the variety pack with two classic pints, two red velvet, and two chocolate hazelnut. You can customize the delivery date at checkout, and add a personalized gift message.

We found the brownies and blondies rich and indulgent—even those of us who are chocolate lovers thought the blondies were just as delicious. Plus, each baked good is individually packaged, making it easy to bring on the go. While the brownies were decadent and delicious, the banana pudding was the real standout. We particularly loved the red velvet flavor, which didn't skimp on red velvet cake chunks. Two containers of each flavor proved to be the perfect ratio, ideal for sampling with a friend or two.

The banana pudding must be refrigerated upon arrival, and the six containers may take up a bit of fridge space. They can last for up to four days in the refrigerator or 30 days in the freezer, so you can strategically save some for later. Still, we appreciate the contrast between the cold banana pudding and the baked goods and think this is the perfect gift basket for those with a sweet tooth.

Best for Date Night

Goldbelly blue ribbon special sushi diy kit.

It's interactive.

Assembly is required, so the cooking process is fairly time-consuming.

If you're looking for an interactive date night activity, you can't go wrong with this Blue Ribbon DIY Sushi Kit. The classic kit includes enough sushi ingredients to make four or five rolls and crispy rice. It also offers various add-ons to choose from, including fish, condiments, and even cutlery. Whether you're splitting it with a loved one or sharing it with a small group of friends, the customizability makes it ideal for any special occasion.

Since this is a DIY kit, it isn't the best choice for those seeking a quick and easy meal. Nevertheless, we found the instructions extremely easy to follow—even those of us who are sushi amateurs mastered the meal. The rolling kit also comes with a sushi mat, so you don't need additional supplies. The fish tasted a bit basic on it's own, but was delicious once in the roll. We felt that the real star of the show was the tuna crispy rice.

While this is the most expensive gift basket on our list, we think the experiential component makes it worth the splurge. Just keep in mind that the fish only lasts for up to three days in the refrigerator, so you'll have to eat it relatively quickly.

Rao's Rao's Small Sampler

The gift basket features sauces of various spice levels.

It only includes tomato-based sauces.

Pasta fans will be obsessed with this gift set, which provides a taste of Italy from the comfort of home. The small sampler includes three of Rao's signature sauces (marinara, arrabbiata, and tomato basil) and two noodle types: spaghetti and penne. Plus, it comes with a jar opener, so you won't have to struggle to pry the lid open.

Upon arrival, we found the packaging simple yet durable, keeping the glass bottles secure inside. Since the contents are non-perishable, we like that the recipient can savor the pasta at their leisure without feeling rushed to eat it quickly. You can also add a personalized gift message at checkout.

While the tomato basil and marinara have a classic flavor, the arrabbiata had a subtle kick to it, providing options for those with various palate preferences. It's worth noting that all of the sauces included are tomato-based, and you can't customize which sauces are included. Still, we think the simplicity and quality make up for this slight downside.

Best Unique

Jeni’s breakfast in bed collection.

The distinct flavors taste exactly as advertised.

Some of the flavors may be too sweet depending on your preferences.

Breakfast enthusiasts will love Jeni's Breakfast in Bed Collection, which offers beloved breakfast treats for any time of day. The box features nostalgic morning classics in ice cream form, including Banana French Toast, Brambleberry Crisp, Coffee with Cream and Sugar, Maple Soaked Pancakes, Milkiest Chocolate, and Skillet Cinnamon Roll. It also comes with knit pint holders so you can comfortably dig in while holding the carton.

The ice cream arrived in an insulated styrofoam box with dry ice to keep it cold. Upon the ice cream's arrival, we had doubts about the flavors' accuracy. With such specific titles, we initially believed that the pints couldn't accurately capture such nuanced flavor profiles. After tasting, we can confidently say that the unique titles perfectly match each ice cream. The flavors somehow tasted exactly like the breakfast staples they sought to recreate. That said, some flavors were a bit too sweet, so we only wanted a small portion.

Still, this variety pack hits all the bases, including fruity flavors as well as chocolatey ones. Given the unique flavors and the vibrant packaging, this gift basket will make any recipient eager to grab a spoon.

We tested 55 different gift baskets and evaluated them based on presentation, freshness, variety, quality, and overall value of the basket. We examined the contents of the gift baskets when they arrived, taking into account whether or not the perishable items were properly stowed and if anything was damaged. For the baskets with frozen items, we checked how cold the contents were and how well-packaged any dry ice was within the container. In terms of presentation, we noted how visually appealing each basket was.

Next, we tasted each of the items in the gift baskets, giving feedback on the variety of the selection and how many people it could comfortably feed. We then evaluated the freshness of the food and noted whether the products tasted gourmet or as if we could have found them at a local grocery store. Once we sampled everything in the baskets, we decided whether the price was justified for what we got. After considering all of these factors, we compiled the best gift baskets.

More Gift Baskets to Consider

Stan's Donuts Donuts & Coffee Lovers Gift Pack : We were amazed by how fresh the doughnuts tasted, and the coffee and mug added a nice touch, too. This gift set fell short in its presentation, though, as the mug caused the packaging to bulge and rip when we opened it.

How to Shop for Gift Baskets Like a Pro

Knowing your recipient's interests is of the utmost importance. “Know your audience,” says Flores. “For example, do they lean sweet or savory? Are they adventurous eaters or is crowd pleaser a safer bet? Does this person/group like to cook, or do they prefer to simply open a package/jar and enjoy? Finding the right balance is key.”

Benevides emphasizes the various factors to consider, including "the recipient’s interests and taste, the theme (e.g., should the food be sweet, savory, or both?), the number of products (e.g., a basket with few higher-priced items or one with many less expensive ones?), whether there will be perishable offerings, and how the gift will look when the recipient opens it,"

Once you’ve chosen the theme of the basket, Flores says the next best thing is to ensure that there is also balance in the product selection. She suggests getting a mix of sweet and savory items and products that vary in color, size, and packaging materials, as this creates a more visually stimulating experience for the giftee. If your gift basket has a singular food theme, Benevides says there should be variety within the category, adding that the best assortments include brands or products that aren’t readily available at the grocery store.

Flores agrees with Benevides, noting that there’s no better feeling than giving a gift basket that exposes people to new products they’ve never experienced before. We found this to be true while testing: We had never seen anything like the spiced cherry preserves included in the Murray’s Cheese Greatest Hits Gift Basket , which made discovering it all the more special. “I know I’ve done my job well when a friend I’ve gifted begins to purchase the same product(s) for themselves or, even better, gifts to others!” Flores says.

Along with product variety and uniqueness, Fisher points out the importance of knowing the receivers’ dietary restrictions.

Presentation

Both Flores and Fisher say the biggest mistake they see people make with gift baskets is not considering aesthetic packaging. “I am a big proponent of a gorgeous presentation, and cellophane in a dated basket just doesn't cut it,” says Fisher. “There are so many modern companies out there that have elevated the gift basket.”

Benevides also says to consider the way the gift basket is presented to you before you buy it. He says the biggest mistake people make is getting a gift basket without knowing what it will look like when presented to the giftee. “You should be able to see how the gift box looks assembled to interpret how the recipient will experience it,” he says. “If you can’t see that, I would be hesitant to order from the business.”

People sometimes gawk at the high price of gift baskets, as many are more than $100. It’s important to know that the price you are paying for a gift basket is more than just the products within it. It’s also the expert curation of those products, the packaging of it all, the shipping costs, and the assurance that it will arrive safely (and beautifully assembled) to its recipient.

Flores explains that the amount of products also affects the price. “Just under $100 is very doable for a smaller selection of goods,” she says. “I do think one should be able to purchase a very well-appointed, premium, and generous gift box of dried goods for $140, with eight to 10 products inside depending on what they are.”

Based on her experience, Flores advises buying a gift basket from a brand that specifically focuses on making gift baskets, as this will ensure you get good value for your money. “I do see examples of businesses where gift baskets are not their main priority, so prices are very high compared to what you would pay for the products individually in-store,” she says. “If a gift basket is double what you’d pay for the same products in-store, less shipping, you’re probably not in the right place.” Fisher echoes this, telling us that she wouldn’t pay more than two times the retail value of each item in the basket.

Questions You Might Ask

Are gift baskets worth the cost.

They can be. When opening a gift basket, many of us often assume that we can purchase all of the included items for less at a local grocery store. While that may be true in some cases, Fisher says there’s more to the cost than the total sum of the included products.

“Consider the value of your time!” she says. “Going out to select and purchase each item, then assemble properly for shipping—not to mention the shipping itself—is time-consuming, and more than likely, your basket won't arrive looking as beautiful as you hoped. Gifting companies go to great lengths to curate the perfect gift for you and package in a way that will ensure a beautiful experience upon delivery. There is serious value in their expertise and freeing up your time so that you can make someone's day and still enjoy your own.”

Taking these factors into account, Flores notes that going with a professionally assembled gift basket may end up costing you less in the end than if you did it all yourself, so it’s a worthwhile investment. it

Is there a chance food in a gift basket will spoil while in transit?

Freshness varies greatly by the goods in your basket as well as the brand you are buying from. Although fear of food spoilage is a legitimate concern, our gift basket experts assured us that there are techniques and systems in place to prevent this from happening. “When we receive a gift basket order that contains perishable items, we pack those separately inside an insulated sleeve along with ice packs, which prevents the food from spoiling,” says Benevides. He suggests looking into exactly how the brand packages its perishables for reassurance.

Flores also stresses looking into the brand at large to ensure that they are credible, as this can affect the state of the product when it gets to its recipient. “If you select a reputable retailer, they will have the proper supply chain in place that guarantees freshness,” she says. “If you are shipping perishable items, the correct ‘cold chain’ will be in place via their delivery courier (i.e FedEx or UPS),” she says.

She adds that retailers usually aim to include dry goods that are fresh for six or more months. “Unless a product is perishable, a gift basket shouldn’t have to be consumed immediately. The receiving party should have time to enjoy their gift,” she explains.

If you want to be extra careful, Fisher recommends not ordering specific foods during certain times of the year. “Steer clear of cheese, chocolate, or fruit baskets during the hotter months when spoilage and melting may occur, and instead opt for alcohol, snacks, or cooking-themed baskets that are more stable,” she says.

Regardless of whether or not the items in your gift basket are perishable or not, always read the brand’s directions on consuming and storing the food, which should be included with the gift basket.

What are good occasions to get someone a gift basket?

In addition to the holidays, our experts note that there are endless other occasions out there that call for a gift basket. “I like to send a gift basket as a pre- or post-hosting gift,” Flores says. “For example, if a friend is hosting me as a weekend guest in their home, it’s fun and unexpected when the basket arrives either before or after your stay.”

Fisher adds that “any sort of life event that might make cooking difficult or inconvenient is a great time to gift food—like a new baby, a new house, or if someone is not well.” She also loves the idea of getting a gift basket for a housewarming gift. “When you move into a new home, you often only have the condiments that you brought with you and the bottle of Champagne to pop,” she says. “A charcuterie-themed gift basket would be a nice addition to the new home.”

Gift baskets are a great way to say "I love you" this Mother's Day and spring season for loved ones who live near and far, but it can be difficult to find one that piques their interest, includes high-quality products, and arrives on time.

"When it comes to gifting food baskets, the first thing that consumers are looking for is the quality of products and where they're sourced from," says Giulia Scargetta , founder and CEO of Tasty Ribbon.

We know that it's tricky, so that's why we’ve taste-tested over 50 unique gift baskets over two years from affordable and luxury brands to find the best ones, considering the assortment, as well as the ordering process, taste, and quality of each item included . Through our testing, we determined that the variety and price of each gift basket are the most important considerations when finding one for your recipient.

Finding a gift basket with a ton of variety ensures that your recipient will find something they like and have enough to share with friends and family. While everyone’s tastes are different, we tested everything from international snacks to cheese to chocolate, so there’s something for everyone. Gift baskets come in a wide range of prices, in this case, $29 to $275. The larger the variety and the more contents in the basket, the higher the price. Be sure to also add in extra shipping costs, especially for last-minute deliveries.

In terms of price, consider how many people will be enjoying your gift. Families would appreciate a larger basket with enough to go around, while your mom or mother-in-law will love a small box of chocolates.

Our team had these shipped all over the country to try options from beloved (and well-known) brands like Harry & David , Gourmet Gift Baskets , and more. We documented the shipping process, evaluated the presentation, and then sunk our teeth into the basket's contents to determine the best brands and baskets to gift for any occasion.

You can always count on Williams Sonoma when looking for a food gift basket with a luxury feel. During testing, we loved the high-end feel of the packaging . A twine string held the boxes of the Manhattan Fruitier Chocolate Confections Gift Tower together neatly in a stack, and a decorative gifting bow adorned the boxes, just as pictured.

We gave it high scores for taste, which makes sense since it ships perishable foods directly from its vendors for freshness. If you're concerned about ingredients and allergens, those are clearly printed on the boxes, but the information is placed so as not to get in the way of the presentation of the gift.

This gift basket lost some points for ordering and selection, as it stood out to us that most gifts cost a minimum of $50, and the basket we selected had a $12 shipping fee—a significant markup.

Why We Love This Brand:

The store offers its own exclusive collection every holiday season. It offers a variety of food items, including meat and cheeses to fruit, but it especially has a ton of chocolate treats and confections, perfect for the holidays. Our favorite options come in luxurious wooden crates , like the best-selling Tour de France Gift Crate that comes stocked with smoked salmon, brie, and even caviar. If that's a bit outside your price range, there are plenty of simpler options, including some just filled with cheese or fruit and nuts .

Perfect for foodies, Mouth offers uniquely curated food baskets with products you won't find at other gift sites. While the basket we tested is currently unavailable, the Cheesy Gift Box is very similar. It comes with two cheeses, two varieties of crackers, assorted nuts, and fig preserves, making it ideal for a picnic in the park.

Mouth received high scores overall, but we took off one point since three items we originally ordered were swapped out with another snack. There is a disclaimer that notes this on the site when you place your order, but it's something to keep in mind if you had your heart set on a specific product making into the gift.

However, there are plenty of filters to find what you're looking for. We also appreciated how easy it is to filter Mouth’s offerings by dietary requirement and taste preference and still find a nice range of appealing gift options. All items came packed in crinkle-cut brown paper, which might not make for the fanciest presentation, but we liked that the material was easy to recycle .

Adventurous eaters might appreciate something from Mouth, an innovative company with a wide array of regional and handmade snacks as well as unusual treats that your special someone will be obsessed with. The simplest gifts start at around $40 for a chocolate-themed gift , with most options costing between $60 and $100.

Can enjoy whenever you want

Large variety

Lacking presentation

Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit makes it easy to throw a perfect brunch with its biscuits and gift sets. Aptly named, the Share the Love Gift Basket comes with six buttermilk biscuits, six cinnamon biscuits, six cheese and chive biscuits, and pimento cheese. Everything arrives frozen, so there’s not much of a special occasion, but this ensures that you can enjoy the biscuits whenever you want . You don’t feel pressured to enjoy the gift basket right away, like other brands.

The biscuits took about 15 minutes to prepare, and we were blown away by their flakiness and delicious taste despite being frozen . The pimento cheese was flavorful as well. Overall, this basket arrived in less than a week, tasted delicious, and can feed a large group. The website says this basket is best for 4-8 people, and we think it can stretch even farther with 18 biscuits to share.

On the site, you can navigate by the brand’s best-sellers or check out every flavor of biscuits they offer (there are 10). For gifting, the brand has many bundles with add-ons like grits, coffee, and even a cookbook. To let your recipient choose their own biscuit adventure, you can also purchase a gift card for a quick virtual gift.

Levain Bakery Signature Cookie Assortment

Levain Bakery

  • Ordering 4 /5

Great for someone with a sweet tooth

Ordering is simple and fast

Generously-sized cookies

Very limited options

Known for its incredibly thick and moist cookies , Levain is a coveted brand in the cookie industry. For the longest time, Levain bakeries were only local to the residents of Manhattan and the Hamptons. Fast forward nearly 30 years later, and you can get its cookies delivered right to your door, which we think are perfect for an intimate date night at home.

We tested the brand's signature cookie assortment, which is available in a 4-, 6-, or 12-pack. No matter what size you get, it's important to note that the cookies are extremely large and great for sharing. We found that every cookie she ordered arrived fresh, decadent, and ready to be enjoyed right away.

You might think that having a smaller selection would be a bad thing, but in this case, we found that this made the ordering process clear and fast, given the website was easy to navigate and not overwhelming.

Shari's Berries Distinctive Fruit Basket & Sweets Gift Grande

Shari's Berries

  • Presentation 5 /5

No bruised fruit

Over 30 different treats in one box

Beautiful presentation

Messy to unwrap

There’s no wrong time to gift someone you love a gorgeous plate of chocolate-covered strawberries (especially during the season of love), and Shari’s Berries makes this process easy and delicious. A bit different than the brand’s signature basket , we tested the Distinctive Fruit Basket & Sweets Gift , which includes an impressive 39 different fruits and snacks , so an entire family or group of friends can share and sample everything.

In just six days, the basket arrived in perfect condition, wrapped in cellophane with a bow on top. Everything was packaged very securely, and not a single fruit was bruised. They all tasted extremely fresh, and the chocolatey candies were a welcome pairing to the tasty apples and pears.

This is a special occasion gift suitable for an entire family or group that will surely impress any fruit lover. Just note that unboxing this basket may get messy because all of the fruit was wrapped individually and then in cellophane, and the basket was filled with paper shreds—but this is a small price to pay for fresh fruit.

In addition to various flavors and designs of chocolate strawberries, the brand also sells fruit, cakes, flowers, and snack baskets, so there’s something for everyone. You can search by occasion and recipient or even filter by baskets that offer same-day delivery , which is vital for last-minute presents .

Comes with storage instructions

Great for birthdays

Wide selection of unique products

$15 flat rate shipping fee

You don't have to live by Christina Tosi's Milk Bar to delight in one of her outrageous treats—you can just ship them across the country. We tested the brand's sample gift box, which came with truffles, cookies, and a slice of pie for a delicious and varied assortment perfect for sharing.

The basket even included instructions on how to best store and preserve the treats once opened, in case they don't finish their delicious selections in one sitting. They taste just as delicious when stored correctly and enjoyed a few days or weeks later.

We were particularly impressed by the company's commitment to freshness. The gift basket arrived packaged with cold packs and the tin basket was secured, so none of the treats were broken or damaged.

Known for its "birthday cake" flavor, as well as the insanely tasty Milk Bar Pie, these sweet treats and baking mixes are sure to brighten anyone's day. The brand scored a perfect score for selection since Milk Bar has a wide range to choose from ; for example, you can browse among cookie-only packages or opt for a sampler of its popular desserts. All of the sweets arrive in a cute gift box, too.

Wicked Good Cupcakes

Can choose your own flavors

Gluten-free options

Many white and cake options

Beautiful appearance

Not many flavor options

Wicked Good Cupcakes makes it easy to send a delicious treat and a bottle of wine as a sweet way to say "I love you" to someone special. You can choose up to six of the brand's almost 30 tasty cupcake flavors that arrive ready to eat in a jar, then add your recipient's favorite wine from Ilo for a great gift that has something for little ones and adults to enjoy. Unfortunately, the cupcake and wine pairings are currently out of stock, but you can still gift both with this Let’s Party Birthday Wine Gift Box , which also comes with charcuterie favorites.

We loved the moist cake that looked exactly like the pictures online upon arrival . The cupcakes are packaged in mason jars so they stay fresh and look adorable when opened. The clear jars also let you see the delicious icing and ganache before diving in. We also loved the proportions of the cupcakes with a favorable icing-to-cake ratio. However, we wished there were a few more flavor options.

Wicked Good Cupcakes lets you send an e-gift for your recipient to choose their own flavors with gluten-free options as well. Luckily, there is a non-alcoholic option for non-drinkers or younger recipients.

Non-food items extend the life of the gift

Great for families

Most items require cooking to enjoy

For the perfect breakfast in a box, we tested Stonewall Kitchen's Morning Favorites Gift Basket, which comes with jam, syrups, and three different pancake and waffle mixes. We gave the brand high scores for quality, and we loved that a lot of the items included were "treat-like"—meaning they weren't necessarily products people would buy for themselves, but still made for fun pantry items that would last over the course of a few weeks or months.

Although food is the star of the show with Stonewall Kitchen, many of the gift options come with one or two non-food items that extend the life of the gift. This one came with a tea towel and was packaged in a gorgeous basket that can easily be repurposed. You’ll definitely impress your date with a delicious breakfast in bed on February 14th with this box.

This classic New England store makes some of the best pancake mixes, jams, and syrups out there —and prices start at just $10 and top off at $200. We liked that there was enough variation in basket options to make the gift feel personalized. Since many of the gifts do include mixes or sauces, they're not all ready to eat straight out of the packaging like some of the other picks we tested. We recommend this brand for friends and family who love to cook or bake.

Stan's Donuts Donuts & Coffee Lovers Gift Pack from Goldbelly is perfect for a coffee lover who needs a touch of sweetness in their life this February. This gift set comes with a bag of whole-bean coffee, six donuts, and a ceramic mug from the Chicago-based shop. We love that the coffee beans and mug can be enjoyed even after all the treats are eaten and act as a sweet reminder of the thoughtful gift .

As for the donuts, they were extremely fresh and tasted delicious for three days. The flavors were universally enjoyable and easy to share—even if you don’t like a certain ingredient. Just note that the box has a small tear to fit the mug inside, so the presentation isn’t the most gorgeous, but the contents inside are worth a few rips.

Goldbelly can deliver local favorites across the country to satisfy any type of customer. From the famous banana pudding from New York's Magnolia Bakery to deep dish pizza from Gino's East in Chicago , you can pretty much send it all.

Recchiuti Black Box 16

Recchiuti

Intricately designed chocolates

Unique and classic flavors

Digestible small selection

San Fransisco-based chocolate shop Recchiuti upgrades a simple gift of a box of chocolates, which you can’t go wrong gifting this spring. We were blown away by the beautifully decorated chocolates in sophisticated, minimalistic packaging that tasted even better than they looked. When compared to other popular chocolate brands, Recchiuti rose above in terms of taste and quality. With a healthy mix of classic flavors and unique options for more adventure taste-testers, there’s something for everyone. After chowing down, there was nothing we could think to change.

In addition to traditional chocolate, the brand also offers wine and whiskey pairings. The luxurious black boxes of assorted chocolate truffles are perfect for gifting. You'll also find caramels, seasonal collections, and small bites without frills. While the brand's online selection is small, there is truly something for every chocolate lover.

Arrived frozen

Great taste across the board, including vegan flavors

Sophisticated, unique flavors

Vanilla was a bit boring

Only four vegan flavors

For a more sophisticated ice cream gift box for friends or family, we love Salt & Straw. The high-quality taste of every flavor inside, even the vegan flavor, blew us away. With universally enjoyable flavors, the Best Sellers pack is great for gifting, but the brand has more sophisticated flavors as well, like honey lavender and pear and blue cheese.

As with all frozen treats, they don’t triumph in presentation. When the pints arrived, the box looked a bit wet, which was worrisome, but the pints were covered in ice and completely frozen.

Unlike Jeni’s (also on our list!), which has a wide variety of dairy-free and gluten-free flavors, Salt & Straw only has four vegan options. But, the small variety does not take away from the delicious taste of each one we tried. The only disappointment was vanilla, which was a bit plain and unexciting compared to other great flavors. Still, we found this option a welcome upgrade to a kid-friendly dessert gift.

With fun seasonal flavors, classic favorites, and unique options, the brand lets you build your own pint bundle , so you’re guaranteed to receive flavors you love.

Ordinary presentation

For any recipient who wants to try something new and international, we recommend the Universal Yums Care Package , which comes with 30 snacks—great to share with family and friends. Some smaller snacks come in duplicates to make sharing even easier.

Each snack is sealed individually, and nothing is perishable , so if it sits outside your doorstep for a few days, don’t worry. While the snacks may seem a bit common at first, we found they come in unique flavors not commonly seen in the United States. This basket acts as a fun activity for families or couples as they try everything and discover new snacks and flavors.

Thanks to Universal Yums, Amazon Prime members can send a curated box of international snacks to a loved one (or themselves) in just two days. You can organize by country, opt for snacks or candy varieties, or buy a subscription to try everything .

Eli Zabar's NYC Deli Weekender Box

  • Presentation 4.8 /5

One of the best perks of ordering from Goldbelly is the chance to experience cuisine from another city in the US that you can't find in your hometown. For someone who used to live in New York City or wants to experience the delights of an NYC Jewish deli, the Eli Zabar Deli Weekender Box is a no-brainer.

The box comes filled to the brim with Jewish deli staples, including rye bread, babka, bagels, pastrami, cream cheese, lox, coffee, and more for the ultimate brunch spread with a few pantry staples to enjoy for days and weeks after you receive your box. The box arrived in just five days and there was an option on the site to choose your delivery date to ensure you enjoy all of its contents in time.

Everything tasted fresh for a few days after arrival, but as New Yorkers, we found the bagels to be a bit disappointing. The taste was closer to a pre-packaged grocery store bagel. Still, the overall selection and scope of the basket were impressive and a great treat for someone far away from New York.

This popular artisan ice cream brand delivers ice cream right to your recipient's door and has dozens of fun flavors to choose from, including Brambleberry Crisp and Goat Cheese with Red Cherries , plus a handful of dairy-free options . Perfect for a movie night at home, you and your sweetheart will love taste-testing the unique and classic flavors.

Testing proved that the quality of the ice cream was phenomenal . You can expect unique and delicious flavors that are packaged well and will arrive at your recipient's door within the expected time frame. The included dry ice kept the ice cream frozen and ready to eat. Compared to other options, the packaging is a bit simplistic, but the high-quality ice cream makes up for it. We think it would make a great host gift after a holiday visit.

The order minimum is four pints at $12 each, or you can order a specific collection starting at $58 for five pints. Shipping cost is dependent on zip code, and all orders will arrive one to two days after being shipped.

Owned and operated by cheese experts

Build your own gift box option

Lots of cheese info on site

Limited curated options

Cheese lovers will go nuts over this gift basket option from Jasper Hill Farm, which is owned and operated by farmers in Vermont. We gave Jasper Hill Farm high points in every category when testing The Vermonter basket, most especially in part because the cheeses were delicious and weren't something you'd typically find at the grocery store. We loved that the basket felt very personal and special, and the included crackers and nuts gave us an instant charcuterie board.

Note that the baskets start at a pretty high price point, but a lot of the boxes ship free with codes found throughout the site, and the quality of the product is worth the splurge if your loved one is a cheese enthusiast.

When shopping for a basket, you have the option to browse among its curated collections , create your own cheese gift basket from scratch from the brand's individual cheeses and pairings , or gift a Cheese Club membership so that your recipient can try limited-release cheeses or snag sneak peeks at upcoming products.

Gift Tree The Royal Treatment Gift Basket

  • Quality 4 /5

Excellent customer service

Fast delivery

Alcoholic options available

Needs more transparency with ingredients

Gift Tree has been around for more than two decades and has an impressive selection of gift baskets containing wine, cheese, chocolate, and more for every recipient on your list. We tested the luxurious Royal Treatment Wine Basket, which comes with a bottle of chardonnay, a bottle of Pinot Noir, and tons of snacks that pair nicely with the wine.

Shipping is super quick —we received our basket within a week of ordering and by the predicted delivery date. Plus, the two-day shipping option is free! One thing to keep in mind: While the wine and snacks were tasty, we took points off due to the fact that there wasn't a full ingredients list online. This would've been helpful for those with certain food allergies or sensitivities.

We weren't surprised the veteran brand had its customer service down pat. While the site has a generous range of gift basket selections, we gave the brand a perfect score for ordering, since a gift expert helped us make our final selection via the 24/7 chatroom.

Mochidoki Signature Box Set

Mochidoki

Great variety of flavors

Unique gifting option

High-quality presentation

Melts quickly

For a unique gifting option, we love Mochidoki. The Japanese treat features a glutinous rice cake filled with delicious ice cream for the perfect bite-sized, hand-held dessert. Whether your friend or family member loves trying the latest flavors or has never tried mochi, Mochidoki makes it easy to try out popular flavors of the traditional treat.

The signature box set comes with 32 pieces and 8 popular flavors, so there are some doubles to share with friends. The flavor bundles come to about $3 per piece, while pricier options come with extras like tea towels and serving tongs. We loved the combination of familiar and unique flavors that made the gift a full experience, with some trying to guess the flavor based on the color and then confirming with the helpful guide. Just be sure to put your mochi in the freezer immediately upon arrival to avoid melting.

While expensive, the mochi comes packaged extremely nicely, comparable to a fancy box of chocolates . The variety and uniqueness make Mochidoki a great option, and we'd definitely send this instead of flowers next time we need a unique gift idea. You can choose from different collections from an extensive hosting gift set to Asian-inspired flavors to those more commonly seen in America.

Curdbox Cheese Subscription Box

  • Presentation 4 /5
  • Size 4.5 /5

Cheese lovers, rejoice! We found the perfect gift for you in the form of a cheese subscription that delivers new artisan cheeses and food pairings to your door every month. Because you are gifting a subscription, you have to plan ahead with this box as it will arrive during the next month's scheduled window. Upon arrival, the box contained tons of information about the ingredients inside, which we love for a gift basket that includes a surprise.

While the items were not damaged inside, we wish they had included one more ice pack to keep the contents as cold as possible, especially during the summer. Still, everything tasted fresh and delicious. The cheeses were imported , so they felt more special than similar options you can find at your local grocer. At $75 a box, it's definitely a bit expensive, but for the high-quality curated selection, we find it reasonable for someone who loves discovering new cheesy faves.

Curdbox only has one option: a cheese subscription. It can be a bit scary to gift a subscription without knowing the contents, but we found the box to include ample information about the contents upon arrival. One of the most fun aspects of this subscription is that each box comes with its own Spotify playlist to match the theme of the box .

For example, the theme of our box was "You're My Everything" and every song on the playlist included the word "everything" in the name. By scanning the QR code on the box, you can also find a monthly podcast where the Curdbox founder and CEO offers even more information about that month's box , so you're never in the dark.

Bonnie & Pop Snack Attack Tray & Basket

High-quality fruit and chocolate

Not as many options as other retailers

Bonnie & Pop makes a perfect last-minute gift for a loved one who loves a gorgeous dried fruit spread. We loved the fresh-tasting dried fruit combined with the saltiness of nuts and the sweetness of chocolate, all at such a great value. Many gifts also come with a collapsible basket or tin that can be repurposed instead of wasteful plastic packaging.

There are plenty of limited edition gifts available that come in festive candy-striped tins or arrive in the shape of an apple for the fall time. The website also features a "gifting search tool" to easily find who sent you the delicious package. While Bonnie & Pop's selection may pale in comparison to other retailers, the speedy delivery, high-quality products, and exceptional value make it a contender.

If you need a last-minute gift for a coworker, sibling, or other loved one , we love Bonnie & Pop. The mother-daughter-owned business sells a variety of chocolate , nuts, and candy-filled gift baskets , starting under $20. The brand is easily accessible through Amazon with many gifts eligible for two-day shipping with a Prime membership, so you won't have to worry about extended shipping times during the holiday season.

Individually wrapped scones

Scones got misshapen during delivery

Bring a piece of England into your home this February with scone-centered gift baskets from Seven Sisters Scones. We sampled the mini scones in assorted flavors, which came with a jar of Georgia-made jam, clotted cream, and a tea bag of your choice to complete the experience. The individually wrapped scones arrived timely in just five days and felt incredibly soft and fresh upon opening , and we love that you can store them in the freezer for up to six months .

The small size makes it easy to try every flavor for one to two people. It's not the best for a large group. Because everything was individually wrapped and sealed, the presentation wasn't anything to write home about, but we valued the care the small business took into packaging the goods. The soft scones inevitably got a bit mishap in shipping, but this doesn’t dampen the taste.

You can choose from mini scones, aka sconies , or traditionally sized scones in a variety of fun flavors complete with jam, honey, and clotted cream. On top of traditional scone flavors, we love the unique options like this cocktail-inspired sampler with flavors like chocolate Kahlua and orange mimosa.

Giadzy Coastal Italy Gift Set

Williams Sonoma

  • Value 2.5 /5

Shelf-stable contents

Gorgeous presentation

Includes products to use in the future

Rather simple products for a high price

Behind the mind of celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis, Giadzy brings the taste of Italy into your home with beautifully curated baskets for every recipient. The brand also has baskets exclusive to Williams Sonoma, like the Coastal Italy Gift Set, which we tested and loved. It comes with shelf-stable Italian ingredients that can be used and enjoyed for weeks after opening, including pasta, Calabrian chili paste, olive oil, amaretti cookies, and more. While the exact basket we tested is currently unavailable, there are tons of similar options on the Giadzy website , including the Pantry Staples Box. We also tested the Cookies D'Italia Box , which is a great sweet option from the brand.

Everything arrives in a stunning branded box that any Italian food lover or home chef would be delighted to open. We love the mix of ready-to-eat delicacies and ingredients that your recipient will use in the future. The careful curation is impressive. However, for so few products, it feels a bit pricey.

Most of the baskets include pantry staples to create delicious Italian dishes at home . Some are specific to a certain recipe, like the Lemon Spaghetti Box , while others include fun treats and small bites for any occasion, like the Italian Happy Hour Kit .

Vosges Haut-Chocolat Soirée Smash

Vosges Haut - Chocolat

Draws a crowd

Many flavors in each gift

Feeds multiple people

Easily breakable during shipping

Spending time with friends this spring? Opt for this smashable chocolate from Vosges. When you gift Vosges Chocolates to a friend, you’re not gifting an ordinary box of chocolates. We personally tested the Soirée Smash: Sourdough Pretzel & Toffee , which has a bit less impressive packaging than the traditional chocolate boxes, but it is meant to be smashed upon arrival, so we can’t complain. While this specific chocolate gift is currently out of stock, you can't go wrong with the brand's classic milk chocolate truffle collection for gifting.

The chocolate bar has different flavors throughout that you break into pieces and share with friends and family, doubling as an activity for your recipient. We found that it draws a large crowd, justifying the over $100 price tag for a single chocolate bar.

We recommend saving this for your next party or gathering as the 2.2-pound bar we tested fed around 12 people with plenty left over. Shipping jumped this price to over $100, so we see this as a special occasion present for a large group.

While it doesn’t have the largest selection on our list, the brand has seasonal selects and a Build-Your-Own Gift Option to customize the box and its contents for a special someone . To ensure the high quality of the chocolate, it arrives double-wrapped with ice packs for temperature control, but in places with very high temperatures, we recommend giving your recipient a heads-up to avoid melting.

Gourmet Gift Baskets Classic White Wine Gift Basket

Gourmet Gift Baskets

Large selection

Fast shipping

Packed well for shipping

Some food items were better quality than others

If you're looking to give a wine gift to a loved one, Gourmet Gift Baskets has a great variety of gift baskets to choose from, whether your recipient prefers Chardonnay, Rosé, or Pinot.

There are smaller and bigger baskets available, but all wine baskets also include snacks that pair nicely with the chosen beverage, including the Classic White Wine Gift Basket, which we tested. Sadly, this basket is currently sold out, but the red wine version is still available.

In terms of delivery, our basket arrived very quickly, and we found that all items were packed securely to ensure nothing shifted during the shipping process. The basket's other contents tasted fine, but we took off a point since some food items didn't live up to the same quality as others—the wine was clearly the main star of the gift.

While the selection may seem overwhelming, we recommend shopping by occasion , which the website makes easy. For adults, opt for a wine and cheese pairing , while kids and teens might love a birthday box full of candy and cake-themed treats.

We recently tested The Favorite Royal Riviera Pears gift basket , which is a much more simplistic option and one of the most well-known baskets from the brand, the Harry's Gift Box . The box with just the pears is currently out of stock, so we recommend opting for the sampler to still try the delicious fruit with a few fun extras.

For under $50, you get nine pears, which, although it took almost a month to arrive, were not quite ripe yet, so they lasted for a good amount of time. One thing to note: Upon delivery, we found that there weren't any labels on the box letting the recipient know there were perishable items inside.

Though there are a lot of options to choose from on the site, we found it wasn't a headache to make a final selection thanks to how easy the site is to navigate and filter. We also like that customers are able to choose smaller and larger versions of the same basket , depending on who they're shopping for and their budget.

How We Tested the Gift Baskets

To make sure we are only recommending brands we would want to receive ourselves as gifts, we ordered 51 gift baskets from every company on this list and many more to judge the experience for both the gift giver and the recipient. We evaluated each basket on several factors:

  • Shipping : We read through each brand's shipping process and logged how long each basket took to arrive and if there were any hiccups along the way. We also noted the shipping cost and whether it was included in our purchase or not.
  • Variety : We considered how varied the gift basket selection was and the contents within each basket, whether it was clear from the website what would be included in the gift.
  • Packaging : Once the gift baskets arrived, we considered the unboxing experience from the recipient's eyes, including the look of the packaging. We also noted any perishable warnings, ice packs, or other matters to keep the contents fresh.
  • Taste: Perhaps the most important fact, we tasted every element of every basket and determined whether it tasted fresh and delicious or state and skippable.
  • Overall Value : After evaluating all of these factors and comparing our experiences with other gift baskets, we determined whether each basket was worth the price and inclusion in this list.

Only the baskets that we thoroughly enjoyed have made it to this list. We would add any gift basket that we would send to our friends and family to this list of recommendations.

What to Look for in a Gift Basket

Having an assortment of food items the recipient can sample (and share if they’re feeling generous) is all part of the fun. Pick products that you know your recipient will enjoy while also tempting them to try something new.

We recommend opting for a gift basket that has a wide variety of inclusions, so your recipient is guaranteed to enjoy at least a few of the contents, such as the Milk Bar Sampler or the Universal Yum Care Package.

Gift baskets are an excellent gifting choice because there’s an option for every budget, ranging from $20 to $200—so they work if you're looking for gift ideas for under $50 , or if you're ready to spend more. However, some baskets have one extra shipping fee, while others (like the Gift Tree Royal Treatment Wine Basket ) offer free two-day shipping. When you're looking at pricing, make sure you're taking that into account.

Also consider the overall value of the products—some baskets, like the Stonewall Kitchen Morning Favorites Gift Basket, tend to offer full-sized products that can be used for entertaining, while other brands include single-serving options better for snacking.

Editor's Note: Be sure to order early and research delivery dates and shipping times when ordering a gift basket. Luckily, some brands offer expedited or next-day shipping, but it always helps to choose your gift early to ensure it arrives in time, especially during the busy holiday season. Other baskets like Bonnie & Pop Dried Fruit and Nut Gift Basket are available on Amazon Prime, which offers free two-day shipping for members.

In addition to determining shipping costs, it’s important to read up on the company’s delivery statement: Does it deliver in the area where the recipient is located? How do cold items arrive, and how long can they safely stay in the box? We noticed that the Harry & David Royal Riviera Pears did not come with a perishable warning on the box, so be sure to warn your recipient that it's arriving so they can prepare to bring it inside right away.

For alcoholic deliveries like the Wicked Good Cupcakes 6-Pack & Rosé + Moscato , someone often will have to sign for the package, which is another thing to consider. When sending a gift box around a major holiday, you’ll want to check for delivery times, too. Lots of sites have timetables and order-by dates to give you a pretty accurate estimate. In general, the earlier you place your order, the more likely it’ll arrive on time.

Intended Recipient

Because there are many options available, you really can’t go wrong with sending a tasty gift basket to just about anyone. Edible gifts are especially fitting for people who are difficult to shop for because everybody loves treats of some kind.

However, we believe a Curdbox subscription is best for foodies and cheese enthusiasts, while Shari's Berries' Distinctive Fruit Basket & Sweets Gift is better for a family and comes with a wide variety of treats to fit multiple tastes. Plus, gift baskets are not a present that’ll clutter up the house (or end up in the giveaway bin), and anything they don’t like in the basket can be shared with friends or family.

Allergy Information

When shopping for the perfect gift basket, you must also keep in mind the recipient’s taste and possible allergies. Luckily, many sites selling food-based gift baskets offer allergen information right in the product description. Some baskets with various snacks included may require more research or a quick call to the company, but this becomes vital when allergies come into play.

We love that some options like Jeni's Best Sellers Collection have all of the ingredients and nutrition facts listed on the product page as well as on the individual pints. An option like Callie's Hot Biscuits Share the Love Basket is also a great option for friends with allergies because the contents are limited and the ingredients of every food item are clear and easy to find in the product description.

Serving Size

Some things to consider: Does the recipient have kids that may want to break into their delicious dessert box (if so, opt for the Levain Signature Cookie Assortment )? Are they a big entertainer, so a larger wine, cheese, and meat basket might be better (think: the Jasper Hill Farm Vermonter )? If they live alone, will all of the included treats stay fresh long enough for them to enjoy (the Seven Sisters Scones Sconies stay fresh in the freezer for six months)?

Many companies have various size options or items that have a long shelf life, including nuts ( Williams Sonoma's Manhattan Fruitier Dried Fruit & Nut Gift Tower) , coffee, and even wine ( Gourmet Gift Baskets' Classic White Wine Gift Basket) . After putting so much time and effort into your gift choice, you want to ensure they can enjoy every part of it.

For some baskets, every single item can be customized. You can even upload a video greeting to accompany your gift. You can turn the Mouth Cheesy Gift Box into a "birthday gift" for an additional charge and it will add birthday cake marshmallows and gold glitter birthday candles along with a birthday greeting.

Many other brands allow you to add a special card or gift message for a small touch of personalization. Some baskets, like the Gift Tree Royal Treatment Wine Basket , even allow for other special add-ons, including packaging options like bows and ribbons, embroidered liners for baskets, or additional items.

This varies by company, but most sellers allow for returns within 30 days of purchase with an appropriate receipt or documentation. This may be needed if products arrive broken or spoiled. Some rules may vary for perishable items, but gifters should contact the companies directly with any questions regarding returns or exchanges—or pick a more general basket if you're worried about your recipient's preferences.

It may also depend on the reason for the return. "Companies cannot accept returns based on not liking the taste, texture, or flavor of an item," says the founder and CEO of Tasty Ribbon, Giulia Scargetta ." Of course, if an item is damaged or tastes off, companies usually offer refunds and send substitutions."

Gift baskets often include a lot of packaging, which may make them not the most sustainable choice. However, many companies including Levain and Stonewall Kitchen use recycled or sustainable packaging on all of their products. Sellers often list on its website if they are committed to sustainability. However, most packaging used on gift baskets can be recycled.

Why Trust The Spruce?

For this list, editors at The Spruce put their own tastebuds to the test and sampled gift baskets from each of the companies included to make sure we only include options we'd shop from when choosing gifts for our own friends and family.

The article was written by The Spruce associate editor Julia Fields , who writes gift and holiday content for the site. LA MADELEINE FRENCH LAUNDRY DIVING BASKET

la madelaine

$985 AT LA MADELEINE | FOR THE FAVORITE CLIENT | $$$$

To say that this sumptuous basket is understated (as La Madeleine notes in the description , comparing it to their $1,300 Dom Decadence basket) is laughable. Dom Perignon brut Champagne! Manni white truffle olive oil! Godiva chocolates! Need we go on? Sure, the other one has caviar in it, but we can’t imagine any recipient feeling snubbed with this array of lavish lovelies. Send one to your client as a thank you for their loyalty—or give your man the ultimate stock of stocking stuffers.

Unboxing: If the tester could give this basket six stars for presentation, she says she would. "The La Madeleine package that arrived on the doorstep of my residence barely fit through the door," Silva explains. A larger-than-life, forest green container emerged from the box, complete with a leather-handled drawer and a magnetic-closing lid. Inside, the carefully packaged products sat perched in their own indents. "Any recipient of this truly luxe gift will surely be ooohing and aaaahing every step (it's a whole process) of the unboxing."

Best Tips for Organizing a Gift Basket

Everyone loves receiving a beautiful gift basket, making them ideal for any occasion. From holidays and baby showers to fundraisers and birthdays, a gift basket gives you the freedom to be unique and creative.

If you're a gift basket novice, allow us to walk you through the ins and outs of wicker basket gift giving. We'll explore how to choose a wicker basket, tips for arranging your items, and presentation ideas to finish your look.

Selecting Your Gift Basket Items

We highly recommend starting your gift basket project with a bit of theme planning. Think about the special occasion and what your gift receiver enjoys or needs most. Depending on your gift-giving occasion, this may be a mom-to-be basket overflowing with frilly baby girl items, a 50 th birthday basket full of gag gifts, or a pampering gift basket for a deserving friend on Christmas. Once you've gathered your items, you'll have an idea of what size wicker basket will accommodate your gifts best.

Selecting the Perfect Wicker Basket

Choosing a wicker basket is much more than what catches your eye. You'll want to select a wicker basket large enough to hold all your items but sturdy enough to secure them. A wicker gift basket should extend far beyond pretty packaging, so you may also want to consider various uses for the wicker basket after the unveiling. Wicker baskets make phenomenal gifts when the receiver can make use of them afterward. Consider baskets with handles, lids, and latches. Try to imagine where the wicker basket could be displayed or reused in their home or workspace to help guide you in your purchase. You can find wicker baskets with decorative wooden pole handles that serve as an excellent shelf or cabinet storage and offer plenty of space for your gift items.

Be mindful of the basket's crafting. Are its handles usable or purely decorative? Does the bottom of your wicker basket provide the support, width, and flat surface necessary for your items? We'd hate for your basket to topple over the moment you set it down.

One of our favorite choices for gift basket giving is our Kubu Round Storage Tote Basket with beautifully handwoven rattan rope handles. Its generous height and width make it ideal for a wide variety of gift items, while its handles and a sturdier bottom are perfect for those heavier gifts. We love using them for housewarming gifts, as they are perfect for storing extra pillows and blankets in the living room and match everyone's décor.

Additional Gift Basket Buying Tips

  • It's always wise to purchase your gift items first, then base your basket style selection according to the items' size, weight, and delicacy.
  • If you're celebrating a friend's engagement with flute glasses and a bottle of champagne, be mindful of choosing a basket deep enough to support your glass items. Think beyond the presentation—will the wicker basket you're considering support the champagne bottle when it’s carried around, transported in a car, and when it is set on a counter once unwrapped?
  • If you don't have your items with you, it's a great idea to take a few quick measurements.

Arranging Your Gift Basket Items

Arranging your gift basket takes a little practice, a creative eye, and some strategy. We recommend starting by placing the larger and heavier gift items in the back. Place shorter and smaller items in front, arranging them in a way that all gifts are visible. Use tissue paper or shred to help boost height for items that may not be quite as visible. Play around with your arrangement before committing to a final look.

If you're gifting fragile items, try to reserve a spot for them in front when height allows. If not, work them in carefully at an angle on the sides, creating a rainbow effect. Smaller, fragile items should find a spot in the front or on top of other items to prevent crushing. Don't be afraid to use tape, glue, or glue dots to keep all items safe and in place.

Wrapping Your Gift Basket

Complete your gift basket with beautiful wrapping. We suggest a cellophane wrap with a color that reflects the special occasion. You'll find an array of colors and sizes at your local crafting store. Don't forget to pick up a spool of decorative ribbon, too!

If you're looking for a unique style, you can also use tulle, which comes in an assortment of colors and is commonly found in the bridal section of fabric stores. Follow the steps below for a gorgeous presentation:

  • Carefully place your wicker basket in the center of a large piece of your chosen wrapping material.
  • Before you make that first cut, gather the material to ensure you have enough to cover your entire wicker basket and any gift items that may peek out from the sides or top. Plan to cut more than you need, as the excess is decorative and can always be trimmed away as you desire.
  • Gather all sides of your material, tightening your grip just above the gift basket handle or tallest gift item.
  • Tie a ribbon snuggly around the cinched area to secure it.
  • Add additional ribbon to create a beautiful bow and carefully fluff and separate the top section of tulle or cellophane, fanning it out for an incredible wow factor.
  • Use small pieces of tape to secure any openings to prevent smaller items from spilling out, and you're all set!

Additional Gift Basket Presentation Tips

If you have extra room in your gift basket, use tissue paper, colorful shred, bubble wrap, or additional packaging supplies to cushion items and prevent shifting or breakage. Use additional shred or tissue paper to hide any supportive packaging items that are in sight.

If you're packaging several tiny items, you can get a bit more creative by using skewers to display them. Pick up a small Styrofoam cube or ball from your crafting store and arrange the skewers at different lengths and angles. Use tape, glue, or glue dots to secure your items to the tips of each skewer and line your basket with colorful tissue or shred.

We have an incredible selection of wicker baskets for all your gifting needs.  Shop now and find the perfect gift basket for any occasion today!

Best Chocolate Gift Basket Ideas for Every Occasion

Just so you know, this post contains affiliate links. That means if you use them to make a purchase, I may earn a commission. You can read my full affiliate disclosure  HERE .

When it comes to the perfect gift, there’s definitely an art to capturing the essence of affection, gratitude, and celebration.

What better way to express these sentiments than through chocolate?

Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, holiday, or a simple gesture of appreciation, chocolate gift baskets have an uncanny ability to make hearts skip a beat and smiles flourish.

In this post, I’ll share some tips for crafting the perfect gift basket for all chocolate lovers. From selecting the ideal basket to curating a mouthwatering assortment of chocolates, I’ve got you covered!

Discover the art of creating an unforgettable chocolate gift basket, from selecting the perfect chocolates to personalizing your gift, with this comprehensive guide.

Selecting the Perfect Basket

The foundation of a memorable chocolate gift basket is, of course, the basket itself. Choosing the right basket sets the stage for the entire gift and adds an extra layer of thoughtfulness to your present.

Here are some tips to help you select the perfect basket:

Consider the Recipient

Think about the recipient’s taste and style. Are they more into rustic and natural aesthetics, or do they prefer something more contemporary and elegant?

Take into account their favorite colors and any specific themes or interests they have. A basket that aligns with their preferences will make the gift feel even more personalized.

Size Matters

Determine how much you want to include in the basket. If you’re planning to add a wide variety of chocolates and complementary items, you’ll of course need a larger basket!

On the other hand, if you’re going for a more modest presentation, a smaller basket can be equally charming.

Reusable and Eco-Friendly Options

Consider choosing a basket that can be reused. This not only adds value to your gift but also promotes sustainability.

Look for baskets made from materials like wicker , bamboo , or even fabric . These options not only look fantastic but are also eco-friendly.

Liners and Padding

To protect the chocolates and other items, use a soft liner or padding at the bottom of the basket. This will help keep everything in place and prevent damage during transportation.

Tissue paper, shredded paper, or cloth napkins can work well as cushioning materials.

Budget Considerations

Keep your budget in mind when selecting a basket. You can find baskets at various price points, so there’s something for every budget.

Remember that the true value of the gift lies in the thought and effort you put into curating it.

Selecting the perfect basket is the first step in creating a chocolate gift basket that will leave a lasting impression on your family member or friend. Once you’ve chosen the right basket, it’s time to fill it with an assortment of delectable chocolates and other sweet treats that will make your gift truly unforgettable!

Chocolate Variety in Your Gift Baskets

One of the key elements that make chocolate gift baskets so enticing is the diverse array of chocolates they can contain. The various forms, flavors, and styles of chocolate make it a versatile and exciting choice for gifting!

When curating your chocolate gift basket, consider the following chocolate variety options to satisfy a range of tastes:

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate, with its rich and intense cocoa flavor, is a great choice for a gourmet chocolate gift basket. It’s often appreciated by those who enjoy a bittersweet, sophisticated taste.

Look for dark chocolate bars with varying cocoa percentages to cater to different preferences, from mildly dark to exceptionally intense.

Milk Chocolate

Milk chocolate is a classic favorite loved for its creamy and sweet flavor profile. It’s perfect for those with a sweet tooth!

Include a selection of milk chocolate bars, chocolate truffles, or pralines to add a comforting and indulgent touch to your gift basket.

White Chocolate

White chocolate, while technically not “chocolate” in the traditional sense, is a delightful addition for those who enjoy its buttery, vanilla-infused taste.

Consider including white chocolate-covered strawberries, pretzels, or bars to provide a contrast in flavors and colors.

Flavored Chocolates

Explore the world of flavored chocolates for your gift baskets, which come in a wide variety of options. Some popular choices include:

  • Fruit-infused chocolates like raspberry or orange.
  • Nutty chocolates with almonds, hazelnuts, or pistachios.
  • Spiced chocolates with ingredients like chili or sea salt for a unique twist.

Artisanal and Gourmet Chocolates

Elevate your gift basket with artisanal and gourmet chocolates from specialty chocolatiers. These chocolates often feature premium ingredients and exquisite craftsmanship.

Consider including handmade truffles, bonbons, or chocolate bars with distinctive flavor profiles.

Chocolate Shapes and Novelties

Add a playful touch to your gift basket by including chocolate shapes and novelties. These can be themed to match the occasion, such as chocolate hearts for Valentine’s Day or Easter bunnies.

Look for chocolate molds that reflect the recipient’s interests or hobbies for a personalized touch.

Dietary Options

Be mindful of dietary restrictions and preferences. You can find a wide range of chocolates that cater to specific dietary needs, including vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free options.

Ensure you label these chocolates clearly to accommodate your recipient’s preferences.

Local and International Flavors

Explore chocolates from different regions and countries to introduce unique and exotic flavors to your gift basket.

Local artisan chocolates and international chocolate brands can provide a delightful variety that captures the essence of different cultures.

By including a diverse selection of chocolates in your gift basket, you cater to a broad spectrum of tastes and preferences, making your chocolate gift basket a delightful journey of flavors waiting to be savored.

Personalizing Chocolate Gift Baskets

The true magic of a great gift basket lies not only in the chocolates it contains but also in the personal touches that make it uniquely suited to the recipient.

Personalization takes your gift to the next level, transforming it from a simple gesture into a heartfelt expression of thoughtfulness.

Here’s how you can infuse your chocolate gift basket with a personal touch:

Handwritten Note

A heartfelt message can elevate your gift to something truly special. Include a handwritten note or card expressing your feelings and well-wishes.

Share a personal memory or an inside joke to create a connection that goes beyond the chocolate.

Customized Ribbon or Tag

Add a customized ribbon or gift tag to the basket. You can have the recipient’s name, a meaningful date, or a short message printed on it.

A personalized ribbon or tag instantly communicates that this gift is meant just for them.

Favorite Chocolates

Tailor the selection of chocolates to the recipient’s preferences. If they adore caramel-filled chocolates, make sure to include some. If they’re nuts about nuts, incorporate chocolate-covered almonds or hazelnuts . Fruit? Try some chocolate covered raisins .

Knowing their favorites shows you’ve put thought into curating the perfect assortment.

Dietary Accommodations

Consider any dietary restrictions or preferences the recipient may have. If they’re vegan, gluten-free, or have other dietary concerns, include chocolates that align with their needs.

This thoughtful consideration ensures your gift is both enjoyable and considerate of their well-being.

Custom Themes

Customize the basket’s theme to match the occasion or the recipient’s interests. For a movie enthusiast, include chocolates and popcorn for a cozy movie night.

Tailoring the theme adds an extra layer of personalization and shows you’ve gone the extra mile.

Include a Personal Touch

Add a small, personal item that holds significance for the recipient. It could be a photo, a small piece of artwork, or a memento that reminds them of a shared experience.

This touch of nostalgia can make the gift even more meaningful!

Create a Chocolate Experience

If the recipient enjoys a particular type of chocolate experience, such as a fondue night or making their own chocolate treats, consider including the necessary items.

Encourage them to savor the chocolates in a way that enhances their enjoyment.

Adding a personal touch to your chocolate gift basket demonstrates your thoughtfulness and care, making the act of giving a true expression of love and appreciation.

Complementary Chocolate Gift Basket Treats

While chocolate is undoubtedly the star of your gift basket, incorporating complementary treats can take the chocolate experience to the next level. These additional delights add variety, texture, and flavor, enhancing the overall gift and making it even more delightful.

Here are some suggestions for complementary treats to include in your chocolate gift basket:

Gourmet Coffee or Tea

Pairing chocolate with a high-quality coffee or a selection of fine teas can create a harmonious taste experience. Consider including coffee beans or loose-leaf tea in decorative tins or pouches.

Ensure that the coffee or tea you choose complements the flavor profile of the chocolates.

Wine or Champagne

For an elegant touch, include a bottle of wine or champagne that pairs well with chocolate . Dark chocolates often pair wonderfully with red wine, while white chocolates go beautifully with champagne.

Don’t forget to include a pair of wine glasses or flutes if you opt for this indulgent pairing.

Nuts and Dried Fruits

Chocolate and nuts are a classic combination. Include a variety of nuts such as almonds, hazelnuts, or pecans, along with chocolate-covered versions.

Dried fruits like cherries, apricots, or figs provide a sweet contrast to the chocolates.

Cookies and Biscuits

Add some artisanal cookies or biscuits to the mix. Shortbread, biscotti, or buttery cookies can complement the sweetness of the chocolates.

Look for cookies with different flavors and textures to create a well-rounded selection.

Chocolate-Covered Pretzels

Incorporate the savory crunch of pretzels coated in chocolate. These are a crowd-pleaser and add a playful element to your gift.

Look for variations like white chocolate-covered pretzels for diversity in flavor.

Fruit Preserves or Spreads

Fruit preserves or spreads, such as raspberry or orange marmalade, can be an unexpected but delightful accompaniment to chocolates.

They can be used as a topping for cookies or as a dip for chocolate-covered treats.

Spices and Seasonings

For the adventurous palate, consider adding a small selection of gourmet spices and seasonings. These can be used to experiment with flavor combinations.

Chili powder, sea salt, or cinnamon can be a great option to enhance the chocolate experience.

Cheese Selection (for Wine Pairing)

If you’ve included wine in your gift basket, consider adding a small selection of cheeses that pair well with the chosen wine.

Include some cheese knives and labels for a sophisticated touch.

Cocoa Mix for Hot Chocolate

Include a high-quality hot cocoa mix and mini marshmallows to encourage cozy hot chocolate moments. This addition can be especially appreciated during the colder months.

When selecting complementary treats, aim for a balance of flavors and textures to provide a well-rounded tasting experience. The combination of chocolates with these delectable extras ensures that your gift basket is a delightful journey of taste sensations waiting to be explored.

Chocolate Gift Basket Presentation and Packaging

The way you present and package your chocolate gift basket can elevate the overall gifting experience. A well-packaged gift not only looks enticing but also adds an element of anticipation and excitement.

Let’s explore some creative tips to make your chocolate gift basket a visual delight:

Tissue Paper or Fabric Liners

Start by lining the inside of the basket with tissue paper or a decorative fabric. Choose colors that complement the chocolates and the occasion.

This not only adds a layer of protection but also adds visual appeal.

Arrange Thoughtfully

Place the chocolates and complementary treats in the basket in an organized and visually appealing manner. Group items together by type or color for an aesthetically pleasing look.

Consider arranging items in layers to create depth and interest.

Cellophane Wrap

To keep everything secure and dust-free, consider wrapping the entire gift basket in clear cellophane . This provides a polished look and showcases the contents.

Secure the cellophane with a decorative ribbon or twist tie.

Theme-Based Decorations

If your gift basket has a specific theme, consider adding themed decorations. For example, for a romantic theme, include silk rose petals or heart-shaped ornaments.

These decorations enhance the overall presentation and tie in with the occasion.

Embellishments and Greenery

Add some natural elements like small sprigs of greenery or fresh flowers to the basket for a touch of freshness and charm.

Be sure to select non-toxic greenery if it comes into contact with any edible items.

Remember that the presentation and packaging of your chocolate gift basket set the stage for the excitement and joy of receiving the gift. These thoughtful details show that you’ve put effort and care into creating a memorable experience.

Special Occasion Chocolate Gift Baskets

One of the wonderful aspects of a chocolate gift set is it’s versatility. With a little creativity and thoughtful selection, you can tailor your chocolate gift basket to suit a wide range of occasions.

Here are some ideas for a themed gift basket you might enjoy creating!

Birthday Bliss

Create a birthday-themed basket filled with chocolates that reflect the celebratory spirit. Include chocolate-covered confetti or candies in fun, vibrant colors.

Personalize it with a birthday card and perhaps a small bottle of sparkling wine or champagne.

Anniversary Elegance

For an anniversary gift, opt for a sophisticated selection of chocolates. Dark chocolates and truffles are often appreciated for their romantic allure.

Include a heartfelt note or a love letter to make the occasion even more special.

Valentine’s Day Romance

Craft a romantic gift basket with heart-shaped chocolates, red and pink wrappers, and a plush teddy bear or rose.

Consider including a love-themed book or a collection of love poems for a sentimental touch.

Holiday Cheer

During the holiday season/Christmas time, go all out with a festive chocolate gift basket. Include chocolates in holiday-themed shapes and flavors like peppermint or gingerbread.

Add holiday decorations like ornaments, twinkling lights, a peppermint candy cane, or a mini Christmas tree. A cute mug would also be a great addition!

Thank You Appreciation

Express gratitude with a thank-you gift basket filled with chocolates that convey your appreciation. Consider chocolates with “thank you” imprints.

A handwritten note of thanks is the best thing to show your sincere appreciation.

Get Well Soon Comfort

Brighten someone’s day during illness or recovery with a comforting chocolate gift basket. Include soothing hot cocoa, herbal tea, and a selection of soft chocolates.

A get-well card and a cozy blanket can provide added comfort.

Housewarming Gifts

Welcome friends or family to their new home with a housewarming-themed chocolate gift basket. Include chocolates with comforting flavors like caramel and toffee.

Add practical items like scented candles, a cozy blanket, or a decorative picture frame to enhance their new living space.

Graduation Achievement

Celebrate a graduate’s accomplishment with a chocolate gift basket featuring chocolates in the graduate’s school colors or with a graduation cap design.

Add a heartfelt congratulatory message and perhaps a small keepsake to mark the occasion.

New Baby Joy

Welcome a new baby into the world with a chocolate gift basket for the new parents. Include chocolates and truffles for the parents to savor during those sleepless nights.

A baby onesie or a plush toy can be a sweet addition to the basket.

Sympathy and Condolences

Offer comfort and condolences with a thoughtful gift basket. Include chocolates that provide comfort, like rich hot cocoa or dark chocolate.

A sympathy card with a heartfelt message can convey your support during a difficult time.

Mother’s Day Love

Celebrate the extraordinary love of mothers with a heartwarming Mother’s Day chocolate gift basket. Include chocolates in elegant floral shapes or with “Mom” imprints.

Add a heartfelt card, a bouquet of her favorite flowers, and perhaps a spa day coupon to pamper the special woman in your life.

1 Just Because Surprise

Sometimes, the most memorable gifts are given without a specific occasion in mind. Surprise a loved one “just because” with a chocolate gift basket tailored to their taste.

Include their favorite chocolates, a thoughtful note, and perhaps a small keepsake or a book they’d enjoy.

Tailoring your chocolate gift basket to specific occasions not only makes your gift more meaningful but also shows your thoughtfulness and consideration. Remember to keep the recipient’s preferences and the essence of the occasion in mind when curating the perfect chocolate gift basket.

16 stylish gift-wrapping ideas for perfect presents.

fancy colorful presents on a table

Did you know “dress to impress” applies to presents, too? Different events (and people, of course) might inspire different approaches, from simple and stylish to fancy and festive. With a few easy gift-wrapping techniques and ideas, you can dress your present perfectly for any event.

Inspired? Create and share by tagging @HallmarkStores .

Tie a simple, perfect satin bow.

Choose wide satin ribbon in a color that complements the wrapping paper or keep rolls of neutral black and white on hand. Learn how to make a simple bow .

sprig of greenery in a small gift

Add a single sprig or stem.

Add a sprig of greenery to a wrapped gift card or tape a single stem from your garden to the top of a box. Try washi tape for smaller pieces of greenery or colorful masking tape for bulkier blooms.

Fanfold tissue to fill a bag.

  • For a tidy look, start with two or three sheets of tissue paper in colors that complement the gift bag.
  • Fold them in half lengthwise.
  • If the sheets have designed or scalloped sides, bring those edges together.
  • Start at one end and fanfold the paper, then staple the bottom together.
  • Drop into your gift bag and gently separate and fluff the top.

Turn wrap or ribbon into a tailored gift topper.

  • Cut a strip of tissue, reversible gift wrap or ribbon a few inches wide and at least a foot long.
  • Starting at one end, make even loops along the length of the paper, holding the bottom together in one hand. (Be careful not to crease the tops of the loops.)
  • Still holding the bottom, punch a hole in the center and thread the topper onto a ribbon long enough to go around your gift, plus a few inches.
  • Tie the ribbon around your gift, trim the ends and gently separate the loops to cover the knot.

Make an envelope to match your wrap.

Take advantage of reversible wrapping paper and craft an envelope for your card to complement the gift. It’s easy: Gently pull the card envelope apart, trace it on to the wrapping paper and cut it out. Then follow the original to fold and glue your new envelope.

Create a minimalist basket weave look.

Get step-by-step directions for creating a woven design . All you need is a wrapped gift, tape and ribbon in a couple of different hues (and widths, if you’d like). Bonus: because there’s no bow to crush, it’s easy to ship.

Give your gift an updo.

Learn how to make with an extra-fancy bow —or choose from different styles . (Hint: Wired edge ribbon will stand up like it’s been back-combed.)

Add a tissue paper flower or three.

Go with the present equivalent of pageant hair with a tissue paper flower in any size or color you like.

confetti in gift wrap

Say “We’re here to party” with confetti.

  • Start with a gift wrapped in a solid color paper . Make a little bit of tissue paper confetti in whatever sizes and shapes you prefer—just be sure they stand out against the wrapping paper.
  • Cut a sheet of cellophane or iridescent cellophane wrap to fit the gift and spread it on a table.
  • Sprinkle the confetti on the cellophane, keeping most of it in the center.
  • Center the present top down on the cellophane and wrap it just as you did with the paper.

Tie on a tassel.

Add a tassel to the top of your gift or tie a tiny tassel garland on an unusually shaped present. Find out how to make your own tassels here —you can use anything from silky embroidery floss to super-chunky yarn. (And don’t be afraid to mix colors and textures.) Or make the easiest tassels ever out of tissue paper .

tissue paper band holding a card

Make a tissue paper sash to stash a card.

  • Choose three (or more) colors of tissue paper: try rainbow colors, different shades of the same color or three colors that match your wrapping paper.
  • Cut strips long enough to go around your gift and about 3-5” wide (depending on the size of the box).
  • Fold each strip in half lengthwise.
  • Stack them on top of each other one at a time, letting about ½” inch of the folded edge of each color show. Fold the cut edge of the last strip under to keep things tidy.
  • Tape the ends of the stack to hold them together. Wrap the sash around the box and tape it down.
  • Slide your card underneath the sash. If you’re afraid it’ll slip out, secure it with a little tape on the back.
  • Want something a little more festive? Cut fringe in each layer for added texture.

Make a simple sash with reversible wrap.

Show off the other side of reversible wrap by cutting a strip to wrap around the gift. Take it a step further and layer multiple bands in decreasing widths. For the neatest look, fold the cut edges of the wrap under. Finish it off with a ribbon and tuck the card underneath. (Secure the card with a little tape on the back if it wants to slide out.)

Cover your presents in pom-poms.

Stick a great big one in the middle of a box. Or hot glue different sizes and colors to cover the top of a gift. Or string some on baker’s twine to make a pom-pom garland to wrap around a gift—even if its awkwardly shaped. (Buy them by the bagful or DIY some with a pom-pom maker.)

Try candy-style wrap for soft surprises.

Giving someone a stuffed animal, pillow, blanket, dish towels or scarf and want to skip the box? Use tissue paper and clear wrap and try the candy-style technique .
