Please wait a few seconds while the generator loads...

Choosing a Name Tracing Worksheet Font

Our Name Tracing Generator lets you choose from two great fonts: "Print" and "Slant". The Print font, drawing inspiration from the Zaner-Bloser handwriting method, offers a clear and straightforward design, perfect for beginners. On the other hand, the Slant font, based on the D'Nealian handwriting method, provides a more flowing, cursive-like style that readies young writers for their transition into cursive writing.

Both Print (Zaner-Bloser) and Slant (D'Nealian) handwriting styles are widely used in American schools, but the choice often depends on the curriculum decisions of individual school districts, schools, or even teachers. Check with your child's teacher to see which style is the closest match to the handwriting method used in their class before you make your name tracing worksheets.

Each font in our Name Tracing Generator is available in three distinctive styles: dotted, dotted with lines, and dotted with lines and arrows. The 'dotted' style is simple and ideal for tracing, while 'dotted with lines' adds the traditional writing lines for better letter placement. The third, 'dotted with lines and arrows', takes it a step further by indicating the order and direction of strokes.

Name Tracing Generator Tips

If your little one is just starting name tracing practice, we suggest keeping the repetitions low and the letters nice and large on the name tracing worksheets you make. You want them to feel that the task is fun and achievable! As their confidence grows, you can opt for smaller letters and increase the number of repetitions. Start with their first name and gradually introduce their middle and last names. You can even include the names of family members, friends, favorite toys, or TV characters to make it more fun!

I am not sure what I am doing wrong? When I type the name and hit enter, it erases all the writing lines and only shows the name in a very small font.?

creative writing on my name

Hi, I am not sure what the problem would be. The fonts are embedded into the file. Do you have an older version of Adobe Reader maybe?

No I shouldn't but I'll check and let you know. I just love all your stuff~~!

Thanks! I'm sorry you are having problems with this. Can you try installing the font and see if that's the problem? The font is supposed to be embedded but maybe that's the problem. It is a free font for personal use. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/KG-Primary-Dots-Lined-Font-Personal-Use-559628

I am trying this again, i did install the dot font and it's working but it is so small I can't figure out how to enlarge the font size. On my mac air on that screen does not have a text increase. So strange do you have any suggestions?

Sorry, I'm not sure why it isn't working for you. It seems to be working fine for most people. I would suggest since you installed the font already, you can make your own sheets using a Word program on your computer. Just select the font and you can type the names.

creative writing on my name

I had to fight with my computer, but in order for this to work with the font, you have to open the file with Adobe, not the computer default. I wasn't even realizing it was opening in something other than Adobe.

maybe a different version of adobe. Mine worked great - txs so much- its a great tool!

Mine is doing the same as Poco's Cowgirl, I even tried re-installing Adobe Reader and it still doesn't work.

You can try installing the Font on your computer. It is supposed to be embedded into the file (i double checked) but that might be the issue. It is a free font for personal use: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/KG-Primary-Dots-Lined-Font-Personal-Use-559628

This is perfect for my autistic young writer. I could edit it easily, Thank you,

Great, I'm so glad it works for you and that you find it useful!

Thank-you this is a wonderful resource. Is there anyway that I can upload a different font? I have to teach using a pre-cursive font and I think it would be confusing if I gave them your sheets and then they had to learn a different style in their workbooks.

Hi, Unfortunately you won't be able to change the font on this sheet. However, if you already have a font you'd like to use, you can create your own tracing sheet in a program such as Word. Select your font and then write the students' names. I hope this helps!

Totally Brilliant !!! Loved it ...Thanks a ton for your help...

Thank you SO much for sharing this incredible tool! I have been searching for the perfect name tracing document for five years - this is the one!

Wow, that is so great to hear!

I am so excited about this resource! Thank you so much for creating these. I make some each year, but they aren't this cute and are much harder to create. Thank you so much!!

I'm so glad you like it and find it useful!

Hi, I did install font but don't know why I couldn't change font in the file :( Can you show me how to make it works?

Hi, Please make sure you are using Adobe Reader on your computer to open the file. You cannot change the font in the document but it should allow you to write the child's name. If you are still having problems, please email me at [email protected] and I can try to help.

creative writing on my name

It must be a Mac issue, because I am also get a very tiny font.

It could be a Mac issue, I'm not sure. I would suggest installing the font and making your own sheets in a Word program. Just select the font and type out the names.

Hi, I installed your program but there was nothing in the Adobe file when it opened up after finishing downloading!

Hi, I just want to verify that you clicked on the correct link. It is a red text link that says "Click Here to Download your Free Name Tracing Sheet". When you click on it you will see what the sheet looks like, but it won't be editable. Then, you will see a download button in the upper right corner which will save the PDF to your computer. Open the PDF from your computer and it will be editable. If you need more help, please email me at [email protected]

Is there anyway to have several different names on one sheet of the editable name tracing sheet?

Hi, the way that the file is designed, it is made to repeat the same name. If you want to create your own I would suggest installing the font and making your own sheets in a Word program. Just select the font and type out the names.

creative writing on my name

Thank you! This is perfect for my daughter!

Unfortunately, I can not get it to work. As soon as I open the file it's straight lined instead of dotted. I already downloaded the dotted font & that did not seem to do anything either.

I am trying and trying and it will not change font to primary dots!

I am having the same problem as many people are having with the font being solid instead of dotted. I have had the KG dotted font in my computer for a while now.

Same issue here, and I have used this file with no problem many times before. It is what we use in my prek classroom and I am currently unable to make a page for my new student.

Hi, I am having trouble getting the file to open as well. I used this all last year with no trouble, but I'm noticing this year it's wanting to open in DROPBOX, not ADOBE. Any ideas to help would be greatly appreciated!

when it opens in dropbox hit download. go to adobe on your computer and open the file from there (:

This editable name tracker abngr is well suited for small lettering applications

Thank you, very useful.

For anyone having problems with editing: When the file opens into dropbox, this is not where you edit it. You have to download the file directly and then when it opens with Adobe (after clicking on the downloaded file at the bottom of the browser screen) you can click where it says "name" and delete and retype in the name of your choice. You're welcome.

Thanks! I had to fuss with it for a little bit and then realized i was doing it wrong. I was right clicking to "save as" and it was giving me an empty file. For anyone having the same trouble click direct download and open that, it should automatically open in adobe. Hope that helps someone that is having the same trouble i was having

Hey guys! I finally figured this out! Hope my comment helps! This will open in DROPBOX. hit download when it does. go to adobe in your computer. hit file then open then hit the Name Tracing file once it opens you just highlight where it says name (first dotted one) and type childs name and hit enter! (:

Wow! Thank you for this. It's very helpful and easy edit. This is my favorite printable.

This is awesome!! I am unable to open the page though.... Will this be turned back on soon?

These are all great ideas! We discussed this topic in my mommy group, the Weecare.co Community Page. I think one of the most basic things when getting started is something another mom from Weecare mentioned: “Keep crayons and paper in her reach at home and practice together.” If it’s there and in front of them all the time, they are more likely to be interested and want to do it. If anyone is interested in the full discussion, here’s the link: https://weecare.co/post/at-what-age-do-kids-learn-how-to-spell-their-own-names-226 .

I am a preschool teacher with 15 years experience and five master degrees in education. You are absolutely correct about writing names. Your activities are perfect. Thank you for the reminder. School starts up again in a few days and I am going to have my little ones do your activities. So many times adults forget that young children learn best by having playing and fun. Skill sheets are NOT fun!! I wish teachers would sit down with a skill sheet and complete it. It wouldn’t take long before they realize how their hands ache and they stopped processing what they are suppose to learn. Just imagine how a child’s little hand muscles must hurt. Thank you again for the great ideas and reminders of how to help our children.

Name writing is important for young learners because it gives them confidence and gets them excited about learning. Keep it interesting for your students by using a variety of the 32 name-writing activities below to encourage name recognition, spelling, and letter formation. Writing names can be fun and engaging with these activities for young learners.

Activity 1. Letter Hunt

At the beginning of the year in Kindergarten, a favorite student read aloud is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr . (aff) This letter hunt activity is the perfect follow-up after reading the story. Students love talking about their names and identifying all the letters in their names. Take it a step further and have students compare and contrast the letters in their names with a partner.

The STEM and Story Alphabet Tree is another great activity to incorporate with this story as well. The additional alphabet tree challenge will help strengthen fine motor skills while building letter recognition, and students have so much fun with this!

2. Cut and Build

Before writing happens, some students still need to practice recognizing and learning the letters in their names. The cut-and-build activity allows students to cut apart and manipulate the letters. This is a great informal assessment to determine who needs a little extra help with the letter sequence.

At the beginning of Kindergarten, some students might still need a model to build their names, while others are able to do this without a model. It can be helpful to have a couple of copies on hand for extra practice. An added bonus is that this activity includes cutting and gluing practice too! If students need additional cutting practice , activities can be found in our Kindergarten September Packet .

3. Dice Names

Incorporating other learning tools into name writing can keep the task exciting and fun. Using dice makes it feel like a game for students! The dice name activity in our Editable Names Bundle allows students to get a little creative and practice writing their names in different ways. This helps them become familiar with the different letter shapes as they practice writing the letters in the correct order for their names.

Name Writing Activity 4. Color Names

One of the first things we focus on in Kindergarten along with names is color words . So, this activity pairs perfectly with that skill. Students work on colors, color words, and name writing all in one! I have my students color the crayons with a colored pencil or crayon, and let them use a marker to write their names. This one is perfect for a center!

5. Rainbow Names

This is a student favorite! We like to cut this one out and hang it in the classroom for a colorful display. They love finding their rainbow hanging in the classroom. It also helps them start recognizing and reading the names of classmates.

6. Vowels and Consonants

Help students recognize the vowels and consonants in their names with this activity. The editable bubble letter font is easy for students to color, distinguishing the different letters in their names. Students color the vowels red and the consonants blue in this name writing activity. Have students count the number of vowels and consonants in their names, make a chart together and compare to classmates.

Activity 7. Sign Language Names

A favorite morning song in our classroom is Jack Hartman’s Sing it, Say It, Sign It . This song goes through all of the letters of the alphabet, and students love learning sign language along with Jack. So, when I gave my students the sign language activity from the Editable Names Bundle , they were so excited! They immediately recognized the different signs and loved finding the letters that paired with their names.

8. Play Dough Names

When parents ask what they can donate to the classroom, I always put play dough on the top of the list! There are so many ways play dough can be incorporated into learning to create playful learning experiences. Using the play dough printable name activity with your students will have them building fine motor muscles, learning letters, and building their names all at the same time.

I love using play dough names during group work because students love to talk about and show their peers what they have created. Not only do they love making their own names, but the names of their classmates too! Playdough letter mats are another great resource to use for fine motor and alphabet practice.

9. Build With Blocks

This Editable Names printable allows teachers to type student names in a font that looks like small building blocks! This is perfect for a center. I just add legos and students love building their names with the small blocks. Laminate and add name sheets for all students to the center, and students have fun building their friends’ names too.

Name Writing Activity 10. Emoji Names

Students love emojis, so incorporating them into name writing gets students excited. If your students love emojis as much as mine, check out the other back-to-school emoji printables in Education to the Core Premium .

The Editable Names Bundle includes a painting name page which is another great fine motor task. The font used in this activity is perfect for painting. Each letter has small paint circles that students can dab and fill in with a cotton swab. You will be surprised how quiet your classroom gets as students focus intently on painting each little circle in the letters! Cotton swab painting is always the quietest time in our classroom.

12. Name Writing Practice

We know that basic name writing practice can become boring for students, but there are simple and fun ways to change it up! Have a writing toolbox where students can choose various writing tools to write their names. Some student favorites are colored pencils, thin and thick markers, twistable crayons, highlighters, and sparkle crayons. I try to switch out the writing tools every once in a while to keep it interesting. The editable name practice activity provides students with traceable names along with blank lines so they can write their names too.

Activity 13. Secret Code Names

Students love to be a detective. So, when I put out the secret code name activity from the Editable Names Bundle , they get so excited. I like to print off copies of all student names and add them to a center. Put them in a plastic sleeve with a dry-erase marker and students can crack the code over and over!  Once students have practiced with the secret code names, it gets them ready to try solving some other secret code words in the Secret Code Word Printable which is a lot of fun. The secret code activities are great to put out for early finishers.

14. Scrabble

The Scrabble letter font on this printable page is so fun! When you type your student’s name, each letter shows up as a Scrabble tile, and students can then color the tiles and add the numbers in the box provided. This is a great way to incorporate some math skills along with a name-writing activity.

15. Name Crown

Who doesn’t love to wear a crown?!? Students take so much pride when they wear their name crowns up and down the school hallway.  They love hearing another teacher greet them by name. It really makes them feel so special! When these crowns are edited, each child’s name is printed in bubble letters on the crown for them to color and decorate. Add glitter or sticker jewels to the crown for extra pizazz.

Name Writing Activity 16. Spiral Name

Around and around and around we go! This is a fun one and so different. Since this activity can be a quick one for students, I like to either laminate them or put them in a plastic sleeve. Students can use a dry-erase marker and practice over and over.

Activity 17. Magic Names

For the magic names activity from the Editable Names Bundle , students write their names in each box with a white crayon and then color over it with a marker. Ahhh! The magic! They love seeing their names appear. I have never had a student ask to write their name so many times.

creative writing on my name

18. Word Art

Word Art is a student favorite! Edit this resource and student names are printed in each of the ten boxes on the page, but each name is in a different font. Students love to use markers, crayons, and colored pencils to color and decorate their names. Change the variety of tools often to make it fun and interesting!

Name Writing Activity 19. Name Alliteration

This is a great one to complete in a group for younger students, or individually for older students. In Kindergarten, students can’t do this one on their own at the beginning of the year. So, I like to work with a small group of students and complete this one together. We use the time as a “getting to know you” activity, and they learn about each other’s names as well as what alliteration is. It’s a great way to get them familiar with and listen to letter sounds.

20. Different Ways

Quick and easy to print, add some writing tools, and then put it in a center! I love to stock a writing center with name activities and all sorts of writing tools at the beginning of the school year. This name-writing activity that includes writing names in different ways is also a great one to send home for extra practice.

Activity 21. Create a Story

Create a Story activity is a great way to spark students’ creativity! For older students, this can be a really fun

22. Write In Boxes

When a student’s name is typed into this editable resource, only the correct boxes show up! So, students get to fill in the boxes all on their own. A model can be provided if needed, but students quickly catch onto the letter formation using the boxes.

23. Pyramid Names

Add this name-writing activity to a plastic sleeve for students to practice again and again. They love breaking apart the letters in their names to build a pyramid. Add different colors of dry-erase markers to the activity to keep it engaging.

Name Writing Activity 24. Name Maze

This name-writing activity is a fun challenge! Some of my students have never completed a maze before and they love seeing their names throughout the maze. After working on this maze, students are always asking for more mazes! You can find some other fun learning mazes in our Education to the Core Premium resources.

Name Writing Activity 25. Seasonal Names

With ETTC’s new addition to Editable Names , students will have fun creating a variety of seasonal name activities. With 24 different color, cut, and glue name activities, students will be practicing letter and name recognition, as well as fine motor skills. These seasonal name activities  are great for name practice for younger students.

However, they are also perfect for older students and can be used to decorate lockers, hang in the classroom, or display for an open house or parent-teacher conference night. Students feel so special when they see their work hanging on a bulletin board!

The Editable Names Bundle includes a variety of seasonal name activities such as a caterpillar, pumpkins, ice cream, a snowman, pumpkins, and more! Displaying these in the classroom is a great way to get students to compare and contrast different letters in their names and lengths of names as well.

26. Holiday Names

The updated Editable Names Bundle also includes holiday name activities. Throughout various holidays of the year, these name activities are perfect to display in the classroom. They are quick and easy for teachers to edit with each student’s name. Your students will be engaged and having fun with these holiday activities such as a pot of gold, gingerbread house, hearts, a spider web, and more!

Add holiday name activities to a center, complete with a partner, or even send home for a family project. Students have so much fun returning to school with their completed projects and telling the class all about how their families worked together to create their special name activity.  You have access to all of the holiday and seasonal name activities with an  ETTC Premium membership !

You can find all of these printable name activities to help students write their names in the Editable Names Bundle . Also, all of the activities are included with your ETTC Premium Membership !

Plus, if you are looking for some more fun ways to incorporate name writing into your weekly lesson plans, we have you covered with a few more hands-on activities ideas listed below.

Name Writing Activity 27. Writing Names in Gel Bags

Gel Writing Bags are simple and easy to make, and are a great alternative to paper and pencil name writing. Here’s how to make them:

  • Put clear hair gel in a Ziploc bag.
  • Add some colored paint.
  • Zip it closed.
  • Seal it with duct tape. I like to use colorful tape.
  • Test the bag to make sure it is sealed and doesn’t leak.

Students love using this bag to write their names. They can practice any letters or numbers with this bag so I like to keep a set of them to use throughout the year.

28. Shaving Cream

Along with play dough mentioned earlier, shaving cream is another item parents often donate to our classroom. It’s easy to put a small squirt of shaving cream on students’ desks or tables, have them smear it out, and then write their names. Simply swipe from side to side to erase, and write again! We do this as a whole group activity, and it allows me to walk around and help students that might be struggling. I can look for letter errors, and they can easily erase and correct them.

29. Confetti Names

Colorful, fun, and a workout for small fingers! This one takes a little bit of prep work so that you have the colored squares cut and ready for students. It’s also helpful if you write students’ names with a white crayon first. I usually do that so that the students have a model in Kindergarten. However, older students might be able to create their confetti names without the model.

Activity 30. Pocket Chart Names

Finding and manipulating names in our class pocket chart is one of the first activities we do in Kindergarten to help students learn to write their names.  This gives students practice not only writing their names but the names of their classmates as well. I cut up sentence strips, write each student’s name on a strip and place it in the pocket chart. We take turns identifying student names during morning meetings and use these cards throughout the year for name activities.

31. Sensory Trays

Sensory trays with rice, sand, salt, or flour are a great way for young learners to practice writing their names. If you don’t have sensory bins in your classroom, any kind of solid plastic bin can be filled with an item of your choice to use for writing letters and names. Sensory trays are a great way to keep name writing playful and fun.

32. WaterColor

Students love painting, so watercolors are a fun name-writing activity. This one is simple but so much fun for students. They can fill in pre-made bubble letters with paint or write their names on their own. Writing each letter with their paintbrush is a colorful and fun way to practice names.

creative writing on my name

Here are a few more name-writing tips:

  • Use variety!
  • Try one of the 32-name writing activities to help students write their names each day. Students will come into class asking, how are we practicing names today? Within the first few weeks, their name writing will improve and they will be reading and writing the names of all of their classmates as well!
  • Keep name activities fun and playful so young learners will be excited and engaged while learning their names.
  • If you notice students are struggling with fine motor strength, check out 15 Activities to Strengthen Fine Motor Skills. These activities help students strengthen their fine motor skills so that writing their names can become easier!

Free Name Writing Practice: Editable Tracing Template (2024)

Please take a moment and share this post!

Name writing practice is extremely important for preschoolers to do regularly. As an educator, I get tons of questions asking how to properly teach kids to write their name.

Did you know there are steps and strategies to teaching this basic skill? There’s also reasons why your child may not be ready to write their name just yet.

Follow the stages of name writing below to help your preschoolers learn to write their name today.

editable name writing practice book

Why is my child not writing their name?

You may be wondering why your little learner is scribbling all over the page. Or why their handwritten work doesn’t look like letters.

That may have little to do with how much you’ve practiced and more to do with developmentally appropriate pre writing strokes and for their age.

Pre writing activities for preschoolers handwriting

This graphic is a great representation of how handwriting progresses over time and the expectations for pre writing activities for preschoolers.

Some children are able to master strokes earlier than the expected ages shown, but don’t get discouraged if your child isn’t quite ready.

Before you can write your name

There are some other things you can do before your students even begin writing their name.

First, they need to learn the alphabet (or at the very least the letters in their name). Your preschoolers also needs to know how to spell their name before they can write it.

I always try to make name writing fun for my kids to do. I’ll turn their name into a song and we will sing it all day long so we can remember the correct order of the letters.

For example, my oldest has five letters in his name. When he was in preschool we would often sing a song to the tune of “Bingo” but instead of B-I-N-G-O we would insert the letters in his name.

Before I knew it, he knew the letters in his name and could order them properly. It’s a simple activity to master names fast!

Name puzzles

Puzzles are also a great way to teach your students their name. You can buy neat wooden puzzles on Amazon or make easy ones with paper.

Learning name using fine motor skills

This is also a great opportunity to incorporate fine motor practice with your preschoolers. Write your child’s name and have him trace along the lines with mini erasers, pom poms, stickers, marhmallows etc.

Here we used marshmallows for name writing practice in a winter theme . Keep reading for a name writing worksheet and more name writing activities.

Name crafts for kids

Another fun way to learn to write your name is to use name crafts .

Name crafts are a fun way to help reinforce your student’s names so they stick. I have so many fun name crafts to get your students recognizing and practicing writing their names like a pro. In my printable name craft bundle , you’ll get 15 name crafts plus two free bonus crafts for half off!

Name writing practice

In the classroom, I always had a name writing center. This literacy center was always a hit for my preschoolers because they were able to write their name in different ways.

At home with my little one, I also incorporate name writing into our daily schedule.

How do you teach a child to write their name?

Once your child has learned the letters in her name, she’s ready to write! Keep in mind, repetition is key!

If you’re like most people, you may be asking yourself how do you teach a child to write their name? As a preschool curriculum creator, I get this question a lot.

In order to teach name writing to preschoolers try following the steps below.

Step 1: Capital letters only

name writing practice for kids in preschool to learn to write your name

I always suggest beginning with capital letters as a first step. Most uppercase letters are made up of straight lines which makes it easier for kids to write.

Step 2: Capital letter first

Free name tracing worksheets for preschoolers to practice writing their name

After you teach kids to write their name in capital letters, teach them that their name starts with a capital letter and the rest are lowercase letters.

Step 3: Blank lines

Free editable name tracing worksheets for kids to learn to write their name

Finally give your preschooler blank lines to practice writing their name on their own and they should be good to go!

Editable name tracing worksheets

I remember being in the classroom and knowing my students needed name writing tracing templates so that they could practice writing their name each day but there was never extra time to create something cute for each student.

I needed a faster, more efficient way to create one for my little learners, so I made them editable worksheets!

These free name tracing worksheets for preschool are now available to you. I hope each name tracing sheet relieves some of the stress of teaching first and last names in your classroom this school year!

I just know that these name writing practice sheets will enhance your kindergarten students writing skills and even their pencil grip too.

editable sight word worksheet

How to edit:

After you click and download the free editable name tracing worksheets, you can get started editing right away.

  • I would also download the font I used on TPT ( KG Primary Dots ). In my opinion, this is an amazing tracing font for preschoolers.
  • This should populate the rest of the page in the same name.
  • This should make the remaining boxes blank so your children can practice writing their name all on their own.

Since this is an editable template, I have also used this to have my students practice tracing numbers, sight words , letters in the alphabet, sentences, cursive and much more. The options for early writing skills are endless so have fun with this one!

Hands on name Writing practice ideas and activities

Over the years I’ve created tons of ways to incorporate name handwriting practice into my back to school plans . One of my favorites is my editable name book printables.

my editable name book with preschool name tracing pages name book name tracing pages for kids

With this template, you can easily create editable name books for each student in your class in seconds so they can all practice writing their name. It’s as easy as opening the PDF with Adobe Acrobat on a desktop computer, typing your students’ names into the class list page, and pressing enter.

These name practice mats include fun ideas for name writing practice in a hands on way by using PlayDough , rainbow writing, building with stickers, tracing, and much more. Easy name activities like these help kids practice proper letter formation during independent work and morning work.

Name Practice Sheets

One of the most exciting milestones for preschool and kindergarten children is the moment they recognize their own name in print and begin to scribble it onto paper. While every child progresses at their own pace, introducing them to name practice sheets can significantly accelerate this learning curve.

These sheets, customized with the child’s name, invite them to trace, build, and practice writing their name repeatedly. Not only does this reinforce letter recognition and hand-eye coordination, but it also instills a sense of identity and boosts their confidence.

name practice sheets

The beauty of name practice sheets is that they are both educational and deeply personal, making learning not just fun, but also meaningful. So, the next time you’re looking for an engaging activity to enhance your child’s writing skills, consider the magic of personalized name practice sheets!

Excellent ideas!

How do you download or print these? I keep trying and it just wants me to put my name and email in

You have to put your name and email address in if you’d like to receive it. It sends it to your email as a PDF and you can print them then.

I cannot locate WHERE to download from since there is so much on your site. I have reread this blog about 5 times now and cannot locate the box for me to give you my name and email address

You either click the link titled free name tracing worksheets or you click the pink button under it that says download now.

The kiddos will love these!

Hello, Where did you buy the red tray? I just love it 🥰 I want to get 5 of those. Thanks for sharing, Good day!

It’s from Target.

I’ve tried searching on the Target website however I cannot find that red tray. Is there a specific name for the “red tray”? Thank you

They’re called paint trays but haven’t been sold in stores or on their website the past couple of years. If they bring them back it’ll be in the Dollar Spot during back to school time.

Can’t wait to use them!

I’d love to see pics!

  • Creative Writing: My Name Poem
  • Virtual Classroom

Local Artist Stacy Haynes-Moore

Stacy teaches language arts, writing, and education courses in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.

Class 1 of 4

Hello poets! Who are you? What does your NAME mean to you? This week, let’s play with words and write about our names. There are suggestions in the three sections below to get ideas moving for a “My Name” poem.

Poet’s Brainstorms

To begin a My Name poem, I like to brainstorm. As poets, we are keen observers. Brainstorming before we write can help capture details and insights. Choose 2-3 ideas from the list below to help you unearth the way you feel or think about your name or to discover information about your name.

  • Make 3 statements beginning “To me, my name means…”
  • Make a list of your main family members. Under each person’s name, brainstorm what you think the family member might say about what your name means.
  • Have a conversation with a family member and ask questions. If it’s a parent, ask: How did I get my name? If it’s an aunt or cousin, you might ask: Did you know what I would be named – or was it a surprise? If it is a grandparent, ask: Does my name remind you of someone you know or someone from our family?
  • Interview a friend. You might ask: What are 5 words that you think describe me?
  • Write your name in big letters on a blank page. What do you think about as you look at your name and these letters? Draw, sketch, list ideas, or write down everything that comes into your mind about your name.
  • Make 3 statements: “I like my name because…”, “My name is like…”, and “When others hear my name they…”
  • What facts or details can you discover about your name? Explore Meaning of Names or Family Name History .

One of my first steps writing a poem is to brainstorm. Brainstorming is part of my process to help me reflect and capture details. One of the steps that I used for the My Name poem was to interview my brother and my mom-- and I learned something new in these conversations! My mom’s story about my name originating from a childhood book eventually lead me to the beginning lines of my poem.

Poet’s Notebook

Create a poet’s notebook. Any kind of notebook will do. This is your own space to keep brainstorms, observations, and ideas. It can be your space for playing with words, arranging lines on the page, and trying different poetry forms. In this week’s notebook, try out an acrostic or freeform for the My Name poem.

An acrostic uses the letters of your name. You can use your first, middle, or last name – or all! This is up to you. Each letter begins a new line for the My Name poem. In my sample poem, I decided to use the acrostic form and each line begins with a letter of my first name, S-T-A-C-Y.

A freeform may not have any specific form or pattern. It can be an unstructured flow of feelings, thoughts, and ideas for the poet’s expression. You will hear and see this form in action in the Poet’s Playground.

Poets’ playground

Here are three writers’ My Name poems. Emily , a high school student who does a poetry slam;  Emmett’s – a poem he authored as a middle school student that accounts for family history; and Sandra, who is not a student, but a famous writer. Listen to this “ My Name ” writing (it’s the first 1 minute and 10 seconds-after the ad).

Poets, I’m excited to hear what you imagine. Share your work back with us.

Sincerely,

STACY (and here’s my acrostic for you…)

S – Stacy is the name my mom says that she got from reading a story, a story she remembered from her own growing up, that name she remember was actually…

T – Tacy, not Stacy. She meant to name me Tacy. Do I look like a Tacy? Sound like a Tacy? I wonder… Who would I be now if I’d been gifted that story character’s name and not been ‘Stacy’?

A –   Almost always growing up, my brother Brian said I was annoying, but we’d still laugh, watch cartoons, play outside together until we got wrangled in for the night; almost always growing up, my grandmother said I was her favorite granddaughter (I tried not to point to the obvious, I WAS the only granddaughter) she still loved me for me; almost always growing up, I found friends and made enemies, and as a ‘STACY’ I know it is sometimes hard to let go of the past.  I also know that I am…

C – Creative. Considerate, concerned, communicating.  A capable dancer, a terrible cook, a confident card player, a compassionate friend, a caring Dog mom – and a real-life character who discovered that I was misnamed from a children’s storybook…

Y – Yet I turned out, to be who I am, to be who I want. I write my own story.

Teaching preschool and kindergarten students to write their names is an important milestone in their educational journey! Not only does it help them develop essential fine motor skills, but it also fosters a sense of identity and ownership over their work. To help students master writing their name, I use a variety of engaging and interactive name writing practice activities. Each year, especially at back to school, I have my students use their name practice mats as they practice writing their name!

Name Writing Practice Activities

Before diving into our name writing practice activities, I read a variety of name books . One of my favorite name books to use year after year is Chrysanthemum . The name activities that pair with this book are endless!

After reading Chrysanthemum and several other name books , I have students practice their name using a few different name poems . This is also a great “getting to know you” activity for back to school!

I show them exactly how to trace each letter in their name, and I sometimes show them what NOT to do (they always get a kick out of this)! For this reason, I like to start the year with the name practice mats using the font that shows the correct path of motion.

Pen Name Generator

Choose from over a million pen names.

Kickstart your writing career with this pen name generator that boasts over 1 million fake names. Search through the pseudonyms using filters such as language, gender, or first letter until you find the right nom de plume for you.

Shae Mitra Debut Bestselling Author

Why do authors use pen names.

Even further back than modern literature, authors have adopted pen names. Back in the day, they were a necessity for some trying to make it in the publishing industry. Women, for instance, often had to conceal their identities by adopting a masculine “nom de plume” in order to even be considered for publication — and this trend has not entirely disappeared with times gone by. As recently as the 1990s, Joanne Rowling was urged by publishers to publish the Harry Potter series under the name JK Rowling (the “K’ was fabricated, Rowling does not actually have a middle name) out of concern that young boys — a large demographic of the books’ target market — would not be inclined to read something written by a woman.

While it’s less common for authors to publish under pseudonyms, it’s still often done for marketability purposes — and sometimes simply for the author’s own comfort in anonymity. Finally, authors will often adopt a pseudonym in order to write in various genres without confusing their fans.

How to pick a pen name

If you’ve created a shortlist of your favorite names from our fake name generator but are struggling to figure out what the perfect nom de plume for your publishing career is, here are a few tips that will help you:

Consider your genre. For instance, readers might be more likely to pick up a crime novel by “Ali Knight” than by “Allison Potter” because the former simply fits in more with the expectations of a crime novelist.

Consider the demographic of your target readers. How old is your intended reader? Are they from a particular region? For instance, when author Judith Reumlet published the first book of her YA urban fantasy series, The Mortal Instruments , she knew her name might not resonate with young readers because it sounds a bit “dated.” So she decided to publish under the pen name Cassandra Clare.

Consider whether your pseudonym rings any bells. In other words, maybe don’t go with the name “Steve N. King.”

Consider the availability of your name for social media and website purposes. Creating an author website and social media profiles is a key part of book marketing. So before you decide on a pseudonym, you might want to check the availability of your name.

Examples of famous pen names

Theodore Seuss Geisel — AKA Dr. Seuss

Reason: After being fired from a magazine for drinking during the Prohibition, Geisel decided to adopt the pseudonym “Seuss.” He added the “Dr.” as a poke at his father who’d always encouraged his son to get a PhD.

Famous works: The Cat In The Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Mary Ann Evans — AKA George Eliot

Reason: So that her publications would be taken seriously.

Famous works: Middlemarch, Silas Marner, The Mill on the Floss

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson — AKA Lewis Carroll

Reason: To maintain privacy by separating his public and private lives.

Famous works: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass, The Hunting of the Snark

Eric Blair — AKA George Orwell

Reason: According to the biography, Orwell: The Life, Blair chose his name “...because it's a good round English name." Others have speculated he chose a pseudonym in order to avoid embarrassing his family while he lived as a poor writer.

Famous works: Nineteen Eighty-Four, Animal Farm, Homage to Catalonia

Agatha Christie — AKA Mary Westmacott

Reason: Christie had already achieved notoriety for her mystery novels. So she adopted the name Mary Westmacott to publish romance novels without confusing her existing fans.

Famous works: Murder on the Orient Express, And Then There Were None, Death on the Nile

Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell — AKA Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë

Reason: In order to avoid the prejudice critics displayed towards women writers in 19th century England.

Famous works: Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall

Stephen King — AKA Richard Bachman

Reason: King explains that “back in the early days of my career there was a feeling in the publishing business that one book a year was all the public would accept.” So he adopted Richard Bachman to be able to publish several novels a year without judgment — until, of course, “Richard Bachman” was uncovered .

Famous works: It, The Stand, The Shining

Name & Picture Practice - Original

Little kids are often left out of the world of printables. Usually it’s for good reason - they’re just not ready to do formal work. But this free editable name picture worksheet practice printable is perfect for younger kids or for offering a more “fun” activity to older ones.

By combining colouring and name tracing, you can help your child develop the fine motor skills they need to move onto writing. You’ll also be working on name recognition and writing which is one of the most important early skills for preschoolers to learn.

Free Editable Name Picture Worksheet Practice Printable

This awesome generator lets you create custom printables with a picture and your child’s name. It would be impossible to create a unique worksheet for every name (especially with all the unique spellings out there) and finding one with your own child’s name can be tough.

That’s where this completely free printable generator comes in - you can enter your child’s name, customize the fonts, choose a picture, and print it out instantly!

Choose From Different Pictures

When you enter a name into the free picture worksheet generator you’ll get a selection of images to choose from. They’re generated based on the first letter of the word or name you entered.

That means that if you’re practicing with “Sally” you can choose from some different pictures like a sun or a bubble letter S. There are also a variety of seasonal pictures which makes this a fun activity to do around Halloween or Christmas.

Another thing I love about this generator is that you can also choose that beginning letter in sign language.

There are 15 different pictures total for each letter. Some are similar to each other but there is a unique picture for each letter of the alphabet. Great for early phonics practice!

Name Practice and Colouring Page All in One

This is a perfect activity for your early learners or if you want to do a “fun” activity. Use the generator to create a picture for your child to colour.

You can include their name underneath just to help expose them to their name or have them trace the letters before creating their masterpiece. Since you can choose different fonts this is also a fun way to introduce cursive name writing to kids.

A Toddler-Friendly Printable

While I don’t promote worksheets for younger kids, toddlers do love to scribble and colour. Even if they’re too young to read or understand their name the more exposures they get the more likely they are to learn.

If you have a preschool or daycare this picture worksheet is also great because you’ll be able to tell what picture belongs to who without having to write everyone’s name.

Finally, I love having educational colouring pages like this on hand when there’s kids of multiple ages in the house. Older toddlers and preschoolers often want to get in on the “action” of schooling before they’re ready for formal work - this is a fun way to get them involved during homeschool or homework time!

Different Activities You Can Do With This Free Picture Worksheet Printable

This worksheet is so much more than just a colouring page. One of my favourite ways to use it is to take advantage of the large bubble letter picture option and use this for letter recognition.

Some fun things to do with that giant letter:

  • Fill it in with play dough. If you have a laminator you could even make it into a reusable play dough mat.
  • Have kids cover it with stickers . Try and keep the stickers in the lines. Not only is this great for letter recognition, stickers are awesome for developing fine motor skills.
  • Bring out the paints and decorate the letter. Older kids can try and paint different patterns or pictures inside the letter.
  • Colour or decorate the letter then cut it out to hang up. Do it with the whole alphabet so you have an educational display you created together.
  • For older kids, draw pictures of things inside of it that start with that letter. See how many different things they can fit inside!
  • Work on the sign language alphabet. Start with colouring the image then have kids practice the sign.

Fine Motor Skills Develop in Multiple Ways

A lot of parents turn to printable worksheets for writing practice without even realizing the fine motor skills they’re also building in their kids.

If you offer this worksheet to a preschooler and they’re not interested in writing their name at first your lesson isn’t a total waste. Even just colouring the larger image helps fine motor skill practice.

If kids are reluctant to do the writing try offering them increasingly difficult pictures to colour. But do keep including their name at the bottom - one day they just might surprise you and want to write!

Young Kids Should Learn to Recognize Their Name

Regardless of your educational plans it’s important for preschoolers to learn their name. That means being able to read it at first. Later, they’ll learn to write it too.

If you send your kids to preschool or daycare, or if they’re starting kindergarten soon, it’s even more important that they can identify their name. It will be on their cubbies and labelled on belongings.

By slipping name writing practice into colouring sheets and simple worksheets you’re taking the steps to teach this important skill.

More Name Picture Worksheet Practice Printable Tips

If you’re just starting to use printables for kindergarten readiness or in your homeschool you should start with something simple. For that reason, this name picture worksheet practice is a great first printable for younger kids.

When teaching young kids remember not to push too hard. It’s OK if they’re not interested in the writing part and just want to colour.

Make sure when you sit down to do worksheets kids are at their best. That means fed, well rested, and excited to learn. There’s no reason to fight over work with preschool or kindergarten aged kids.

Most importantly, though, this is your chance to make learning fun right from the start. Stay enthusiastic and sit down with the child while they complete their work. They’ll be happy to spend time with you and you’ll be happy they’re learning!

Blog Name Ideas: The Ultimate Guide to Picking an Effective Blog Name

Two people debating blog name ideas

Picking the right blog name can be overwhelming. Generating blog name ideas can help with that, but it’s a process that requires many factors.

It would be best if you thought of something clever that fully conveys what your blog will be. However, you don’t want to be too limiting or pick something that won’t rank well on search engines.

Even worse, you might pick something that doesn’t have an available domain or the right social channel handles.

This post will outline how to generate blog name ideas and share the steps you need to take to create the perfect blog name. Before we dive in, let’s look at what exactly makes a good blog name.

What Makes a Good Blog Name?

Much like choosing the right domain name , selecting your blog name requires careful consideration.

A good blog name should be:

  • Memorable enough that it stands out
  • Related to the product or service the business is selling
  • Distinctive from other blog names in the market

Selecting the wrong name can be costly in the long run. If you have to change it down the road, you lose the branding opportunities that you could have been building up until that point.

In addition, you will have to invest in a new logo and re-engage your readers with the new brand.

There are over 600 million blogs published in the world today. Make sure your blog stands out with a distinctive name while still being loosely connected to your brand.

For example, look at Banknotes, a blog for the creator marketplace Hashtag Paid. The business matches creators with brands to increase sales.

Engaging blog names

Getting your blog name right on the first try should always be your goal.

Questions To Ask Yourself Before Coming Up With a Blog Name

As you brainstorm blog name ideas, you should factor in many considerations.

Before you start, establish a purpose for your blog. Are you writing a travel blog  or a fashion blog ? Will you highlight the best food  in your area? Your subject matter can guide your blog name brainstorming right away.

Establishing your blog niche will help you frame your expectations and find creative blog names. Whether you’re creating a personal blog or a fitness blog, every blogger must think like a marketer when selecting a successful name for their niche.

Here is a checklist of factors that will guide you in selecting the best blog name:

  • Subject Matter: What are you writing about?
  • Target Audience:  Who will read your writing?
  • Blogging Motivation:  Why did you create this blog in the first place? Is it just a creative outlet or an SEO engine to drive traffic and sales?
  • Writing Style:  Will your blog be humorous or serious? Your name should be aligned with that style.
  • Future Focus: Will your blog evolve into new topics down the road? Don’t select a name that is too limiting.
  • Length: How will the name of your blog read in spots where there are character limits?

Selecting the wrong blog name is like building a house on a bed of quicksand. It would be best to have the right name to serve as a foundation.

Every new blogger wants to think of catchy blog names. They run through many naming ideas, trying to find the common word or phrase that fits their branding and blogging niche. This is often easier said than done.

The right blog name should be linked to the company or person’s brand. It should feel natural and engaging. If you say the name out loud, you should understand the links between the blog and the business or person associated with it.

Mailchimp used a word associated with its brand as its blog name: Courier.

Mailchimp uses a word associated with its brand as a blog name

Its platform started as an email marketing platform (EMP) that enabled businesses to reach their customers. So, Courier makes sense for the name of its blog.

Now that you know what to look for in a blog name, let’s outline how to find the right name that will fit your brand.

How To Come Up With a Blog Name (10 Tips)

Knowing what to look for in a blog name is one thing. Coming across the right name is a whole other challenge.

Here are a few steps you should take to find the right blog name idea.

1. Start With a Focus Keyword or Two

If you’re optimizing for SEO , each of your articles should have a focus keyword. Why shouldn’t your entire blog?

Consider what you’re writing about and include a singular focus keyword in the name.

For example, Disney could have called its blog something imaginative and magical. However, that may not be exactly what people input into search engines.

Instead, it has different blogs with targeted focuses. For example, here is the Disney Parks Blog, a news site that highlights everything new at the various Disney theme parks:

Consider what keywords your readers are using

If a reader searches for “Disney Parks,” this blog will appear.

You can string together related words to try and find domain names that will match search queries.

2. Use Your Own Name

Sometimes, you don’t even have to use a different name for your blog.

If you have a recognizable company name or are an industry thought-leader, it might make more sense to use your name as the blog name.

HubSpot, a leading marketing platform, has a “HubSpot Blog” for all its latest content:

Hubspot uses a simple name for its blog

Consumers recognize HubSpot, so they immediately know that its blog produces trusted content.

3. Use a Thesaurus

Can’t think of a word associated with your brand?

Write out some of the most common words that appear in your messaging. Then, you can use a thesaurus to find other relevant words.

For example, if you looked up the word “target” in a thesaurus, you might find the word “bullseye.”

Thus, it makes sense that Target named its blog “A Bullseye View.”

Target uses a brand word synonym for its blog name

Target uses a word associated with its brand to make sure that its blog stays on brand.

4. Use Alliteration

Phrases that use words starting with the same letter can be catchy and memorable.

That’s why using alliteration for your blog name is a good idea.

Starbucks’ blog “Starbucks Stories” rolls off the tongue. It is playful, catchy, and fun.

Starbucks uses alliteration for its blog name

Starbucks’ Stories is a simple yet effective blog name that will stay in the minds of its readers.

5. Use Acronyms or Abbreviations

Consider how an acronym or abbreviation might look if your name is long.

This strategy is also useful if your domain is already taken. You can use a popular domain registrar  to check and see if your domain is available.

You should also see how much your domain costs to ensure you don’t overspend.

With an acronym or abbreviation for your blog name, you can condense your blog name to ensure it is easy to find and type into a browser.

For example, look at the NASA Blog, a simple, straightforward blog for the space organization:

NASA uses an acronym in its blog name

The short acronym is easy to type and makes for a simple, effective blog name.

6. Create a Portmanteau

A portmanteau is the combination of two words into a brand new word.

This is effective if your blog is about the unification of two things. In addition, by creating your own word, you won’t have to worry about the domain being taken.

Labradoodle is a portmanteau, so the Agape Labradoodles blog took advantage of this strategy:

Combining two words can make your blog name unique

You’ll want to be careful, though. If they aren’t immediately recognizable, portmanteaus can be confusing and unclear to some readers.

7. Use a Common Saying

Name your blog something that readers are already saying.

For example, the state of “flow,” or your naturally working state when you’re on a roll, is something that business-minded people are often thinking about.

Buffer, a social media management platform, named its blog “Flow” to highlight marketing stories and relevant content for working professionals.

Buffer incorporates a common saying into its blog name

This strategy engages your readers and aligns your blog with their language.

8. Consider Words in a Different Language

Even if you don’t have an international audience, you might find that some words in other languages will make excellent blog names.

Take Blog de Pelis, for example:

Using a title in another language can help make your blog stand out

This is a popular movie blog that highlights new releases and features.

With a blog title in a different language, you can expand your readership and appeal to many new viewers.

9. Choose a Random Name

Sometimes, you need to be off the wall with your blog name. That will make it more memorable.

The AV Club, a popular movie review blog, uses this strategy.

A random, loosely connected blog name can be memorable

Its blog is representative of a club of movie lovers. While no club initially existed, AV Club created and owned its brand name, connecting its readers to the engaging community.

10. Check Competitors’ Names

Before selecting a blog name, you should check and see what your competitors are doing.

This can serve as a useful guidepost when finding the right name.

The Allstate brand stuck to its roots in the competitive insurance space. Instead of straying from its name, the company stuck to its brand that consumers know well.

The Allstate Blog is your go-to resource for all insurance-related inquiries:

Lean into your brand name for your blog

The company leveraged its unique brand identity to provide consumers with answers to insurance-related questions through its blog.

Now that you know the ten considerations you should think about, it’s time to look at ten different blog generators to use as an added resource.

If you land on a blog name that you love, but the domain isn’t available, 123Finder.com provides the WHOIS information for sites that aren’t currently on the market. You can reach out and try to buy the domain from that person if you’d like it to launch your blog.

Lean Domain Search generates blog names and searches domains

The generator allows you to sort by popularity, length, or alphabetical order. You can also filter results for ones that start with or end with your search term. This site doesn’t have many special features, so start here if you’re looking for one that is straightforward.

Before Making a Final Decision

With your name in hand, there are a few final questions you should ask yourself before you solidify it as the official name of your blog.

These safeguards are in place to ensure that you consider your new blog name from multiple perspectives.

Is The Blog Name/Domain Available?

Some name generators have this feature built-in. If not, consider checking out the site software you’re using, like WordPress  or Wix, for domain availability.

Does The Name Read Well in Domain Format?

Envision your blog name with a .com or .blog after it to ensure it doesn’t feel weird or awkward. Some names may seem like a great fit at first.

Until you see how the domain looks and feels, you should wait to solidify your decision.

Is the Name Easy To Say and Spell?

As you promote your blog, you don’t want to keep spelling it for others. A simple, straightforward name that is easy to spell and find is critical.

Are Social Media Accounts Available?

Complete a scan of all major social media sites. If your desired handles aren’t available, check alternative ones like @yourblogname_official or other variations that you like.

Finding the right name for your blog is a process. You need to generate blog name ideas and narrow them down to select the right one. After, it would help if you asked yourself various qualifying questions to consider how your blog name will be perceived.

With the right blog name in place, you’ll set your site up for maximum success.

No matter the date, it's important to express appreciation and gratitude toward loved ones. But sometimes, the calendar reminds us of an extra special day to honor certain people in our lives.

The third Sunday of June is when we celebrate dads and father figures. Father's Day dates back to 1910 and was created by Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, according to the History Channel. Today, the holiday continues Dodd's mission to honor the " loving service " of fathers.

So if you're looking for kind and thoughtful words to share, or write on a card, here are some for this Father's Day.
