Clancy Once Again (Movie Review)

Plot Summary

If you thought that Clancy ended where the title character died, you thought wrong (unless this head-scratching sequel is actually a long dream). After they appeared to be on the right track with Reading Kate , husband-and-wife film-making duo Jefferson and Kelly Worthington Moore have create an unnecessary follow-up to a film no one really remembers about characters the audience can’t connect with. In this sequel, Nick Best and Clancy are back to…do things…like get involved in street fighting (see copyrighted photo above) and usurp the rule of law because they feel like it. Beyond that, it’s hard to pinpoint what this movie’s actually about.

Production Quality (1 point)

As a fairly recent production, we should be seeing Moore more from Kelly’s Filmworks than this. While they have a flair for some creative camera angles and establishing shots at times, there are too many dark scenes in this film as well as a lot of silent portions that lack adequate soundtrack support. While video quality is mostly fine, sets, locations, and props are somewhat limited in scope, which doesn’t really hold the attention well. The most glaring problems that negatively affect the entire viewing experience relate to the high amount of long, drawn-out sequences that reflect lazy editing and a desperation to squeeze runtime from the thin amount of movie content. As a whole, while this production isn’t glaringly bad, it’s just not enough coming from a film outfit that’s produced more than five movies, especially since the field has higher production standards these days.

Plot and Storyline Quality (1 point)

The sole point given to this plot is only because of the hilarious exchange between the two main characters about Hallmark cards and Fakebook. Otherwise, there’s nothing to offer here. After the riveting opening sequence about the previous movie’s events, which appears to suggest Clancy Once Again is actually an alternate ending for the first one or some kind of dream sequence epilogue within the former film, this rendition of the uninteresting Clancy story is full of awkwardly useless conversations and complete with a cheesy villain return subplot. As it desperately grasps for content and purpose amidst a confused landscape and forced premise, unrealistic happenings move things along in order to create an unnecessary suspense feel. Full of coincidences and convenient turns, Clancy Once Again advocates for vigilante citizens taking matters into their own hands rather than trying to wait for the authorities. Obviously, there may be a time and place for this type of action, but the reasons behind it in this film are absurd. When all else fails to keep the runtime above ninety minutes, recycled footage from the first film everybody forgot about is right there to extend your viewing experience. In the end, there’s little else to be said except that this is the most unnecessary sequel in the history of unnecessary sequels (and there’s lots of those).

Acting Quality (1 point)

Jefferson Moore’s unusual preoccupation with Christina Fougnie continues in Clancy Once Again , and her acting skills have not improved with age. In this film, she comes off as even more full of herself as her line delivery is shrill and her emotional expressions are off-putting. Other cast members are bland and vanilla with Moore taking on his usual persona, which wouldn’t be all that bad if he actually had lines to work with. Most cast members seem to be phoning in their performances. One standout issue with this section is noticeably bad makeup throughout the whole cast (but most notably on Fougnie). In the end, this rounds out a subpar film lost in a growing sea of Christian movies that’s leaving the old guard behind.

Jefferson and Kelly were on the right track with Reading Kate , but they’ve lost their way again with a useless sequel to a boring film no one cared about in the first place. Where are they headed as movie creators? It’s hard to say, but they certainly won’t accept dissent or any constructive criticism. They do have experience and some production\writing skills to bring to the table, but they will only find true success in a collaborative environment. However, we somehow doubt this will ever happen since they’ve been content to operate on their own all these years. Thus, whatever talent they have will likely continue to go to waste.

Final Rating: 3 out of 10 points

i find all of the movies that I have watched so far to be honest authentic and the movies really bring you into feeling like you’re right there with them . heartwarming , heart breaking ..real.

This sequel is a good one without a doubt ..I saw Clancy this morning…sad…ugh..I am glad they gave another “What if”…which I saw last night..I didn’t want her to pass ..not like that ..💔

i plan on watching the other movies they produce & direct and act in..The movies have lots of substance we all can relate too. Life is hard …Silver Linings exist and let’s make the best of it all day everyday as best as we can.. God helps those who help themselves …always✨🙏✨💝

This review really has it all wrong…as lots of the comments not understanding why a sequel..What if & Why not…

The Perfect Stranger & 2 sequels…gave me some ideas all very positive ✨🙏✨ thought provoking and I’m glad Roku has had this available for us..

Thank you Jefferson Moore! & His wife Kelly & this production company…for sharing your lovely works of film and down to earth authentic movies this world needs more of.

I also like the Chicago references as I’m from there myself 🎉

Best, Denise C.

I was gripped from beginning to end by ‘Clancy’. A very moving film. I’m 82 years old with brain cancer, caring for my 85 year old girlfriend, Jean, of the last 30 years who also has cancer and Alzheimer’s, so I get despondent at times. Watching this film renewed my energy and hope and made me determined to continue with my creative work of writing and painting while I try to think of new ways to bring as much happiness as I can into whatever time Jean and I have left. Thank you so much Jefferson Moore and Cristina, it did me good to shed a tear or two. Brian Fogarty, Brighton, England.

Did Clancy die in the first movie Clancy? If so how is she alive in the movie Clancy once again?

Good question.

I seen the movie, my guess, it was all a dream to Nick, seeing him crying at the end when she died

I watched both Clancy and Clancy again. But l don’t understand how Clancy came back to life. Although l like both movies. I have also watched Pieces of Easter. Now that movie is the funniest l have ever seen.

I think the guy that reviewed this movie is an idiot. He attacks the original and the following movie probably because he’s just like I said sn idiot

Is that you Mr more?

Well if you watched it, then you seen them bringing her out of it as Nick watched through the window. I knew that after watching Clancy there was no way in the world they weren’t going to make a ” what if” version. I knew the perfect ending would have to be with calling him Dad. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a Clancy 3 . . I own three 3 movies. Clancy, CLancy Once again , and Let me In. Of course the last one is completely different from Clancy but, it’s good movie.

I loved both movies. It was great seeing a young girls view on why bad things happen, even to good people. She kept her faith in God through all the things she went through.

Maybe a person needs to have kids to understand the relationship between Clancy and her “dad”.

Well I hope somebody understands it.

Not all stories are going to be the same Sust but my Wife and I enjoy your work Mr Moore and God Bless.

Mr. Moore, Kelly, Christina, et al. Thank you for your work. I have seen The Perfect Stranger, Clancy, Clancy Once Again – which I just watched with tears in my eyes – Another Perfect Stranger, and I believe one more. Love them all and want more. Best wishes. I love the Lord and I love all of you.

Everyone on here making comments about Clancy Once again being lame or cheesy how bout y’all try writing a movie or something n lets see how y’all do Writing movies and etc isn’t something that’s just easy to do and it’s a lot involved when it comes to it

Exactly, it is not easy at all to make a movie! Which is why most low budget movies like this one need a lot of work done (and possibly scrapped entirely:) before release is a possibility.

I loved the movie Clancy . Only a fool would bash it. Or an atheist. Either way you can’t blame them for their opinion afterall ,,, they probably have a hard time seeing it or understanding it since they have their heads stuck up their butts.

Rather then looking for things I could pick apart, I just watched and enjoyed.

I do love the Fakebook comment though!

Soooooo what is the main objective here? Does Clancy actually die and this whole movie is the character imagining what might have happened or is Clancy actually alive and this whole movie is a waste?

Honestly what is happening in this movie? I think that the reviewer was actually pretty nice towards this film. It’s like everyday you think surely Christian movies are gonna get better! Only to find movies like this. Christian movie makers need to stop being writer, director, producer, and starring in their own films! It will never work out right!

Like Liked by 1 person

This movie has a weird vibe about it. There’s a weird relationship with the two main characters. There’s also a lot of cheap scenes.

I thought the reviewer was spot on in this review.

The strength of Kelly’s films is the intriguing dialogue. Our family enjoyed the first Clancy movie and watched it a number of times.

I’ll never forget the conversation between Clancy and the store owner about how to resolve a loving Heavenly Father and human suffering. Powerful point!

This film does contain some humorous dialogue, along with an attempt at a creative plot twist near the end. However, these pros are overshadowed by the many bizarre happenings in the film – the corny streetfighting sequences and the confusing storyline are an example. As a result, any memorable dialogue is forgotten while audiences laugh at scenes that aren’t intended to be funny.

Yeah I agree, Kelly’s Film works has a lot of interesting ideas but it’s always like the movie is partially finished.

I know right and how about that picture of ME!! I’ve got a ripped up shirt some bruise makeup and a petulant attitude toward everything!!!!

I quite liked the movie thank you Kelly productions for working hard to make clean entertainment for my family. I actually quite liked Nick as a character. God bless.

Aw Jefferson you’re my favorite actor who plays Jesus! Next to Bruce Marchiano of course.

I liked it Jefferson Moore Just didn’t get the sequel at first compared to the last movie but I thought it was good overall

Thank you! It really is hard being me:).

Really enjoyed the sequel and all of your other movies. You make the world a better place, thanks for that!

I love your work man and I’m an inspiring writer who could use some tips and help

That’s nice to hear Halle! My advice to you would be first of all, don’t give up! Secondly, be yourself and write from your own perspective. Finally, it sometimes helps to get a second opinion on your work. This is something I wish I would’ve realized a long time ago on my projects. Although I do sometimes amuse myself with arranging such little elegant stories. I always wish to give them as unstudied an air as possible though. Hope this advice helps in some small way!

Maybe u can help me and be my guide I got some old documents that I saved from when I was just writing and just seein what I could do

Perfect Stranger. The.best ..but downhill.after.that

Clancy Once Again is a heartwarming and emotionally charged drama film that revolves around Clancy Miller (Christina Fougnie), a single mother of two teenage children who is attempting to rebuild her life after a devastating divorce. The movie explores the themes of family ties, second chances, and the power of hope in the face of adversity.

At the beginning of the movie, Clancy is struggling to find a job and support her family. She has been out of the workforce for several years, and her limited skills and lack of experience make it difficult for her to secure a job that pays enough to make ends meet. Despite this, Clancy is determined to provide for her children and make a better life for herself, so she decides to take a chance and apply for a position as a radio talk show host.

After several interviews and auditions, Clancy is offered the job and starts to host her own talk show. The show quickly becomes popular thanks to Clancy's engaging personality and her ability to connect with her listeners. Along the way, Clancy meets a number of interesting characters, including her co-host, Dale (Jefferson Moore), and her boss, Bill (Tom Luce).

As Clancy's success grows, she is forced to confront some of the issues in her personal life. Her ex-husband, Mike, wants to reconcile with her, but Clancy is hesitant because she still has feelings for him. Meanwhile, her daughter, Abby, is struggling with her own relationship issues, and her son, Zach, is trying to find his place in the world.

Despite these challenges, Clancy remains focused on her career and her family. She is determined to make a success of her talk show and to be a good mother to her children. Along the way, she learns some important lessons about forgiveness, persistence, and the importance of pursuing one's dreams.

Overall, Clancy Once Again is a touching and inspiring movie that will resonate with anyone who has ever faced adversity and tried to overcome it. The film features strong performances from its cast, especially Christina Fougnie, who delivers a nuanced and empathetic portrayal of Clancy. The story is well-written and compelling, with plenty of moments of humor, drama, and heartwarming emotion.

In conclusion, Clancy Once Again is a must-see movie for anyone who enjoys uplifting and inspiring dramas. Whether you are a fan of Christina Fougnie, Jefferson Moore, or Tom Luce, or simply looking for a great movie to watch with your family, this film is sure to leave you feeling inspired and hopeful.

clancy once again movie review

Lance Oppenheim ’s three-part HBO docuseries “Ren Faire” walks that fine line between mocking and celebrating its incredibly unique subjects. I told a friend just now that I was reviewing a docuseries about a “Succession”-esque power struggle at a Renaissance fair, and he said, “So, a comedy?” Yes and no. While aspects of “Ren Faire” are undeniably funny, there are also parts that are equally fascinating regarding the human condition to give everything you have to one thing, either because you love it or really because you know nothing else. These people certainly don’t think there’s anything comedic about Renaissance cosplay or the art of perfecting kettle corn. And while Oppenheim’s series sometimes feels a little over-directed and over-heated, that makes sense for the world of Renaissance Fairs, where what some might dismiss as comedy is taken very, very seriously.

You won’t soon forget King George Coulam, the octogenarian multi-millionaire founder of the Texas Renaissance Festival, the largest of these events in the world. Coulam is obscenely wealthy—a glimpse of his profile on a site where he’s looking for a woman half his age to be a sugar daddy for lists his wealth at over $100 million—and, well, the descriptor 'irascible' would be the politest way to define him. Coulam lords over his empire like an actual King, clearly taking his position in this operation seriously but also succumbing to what would delicately be called a toxic workplace. He randomly yells at employees when he’s not scouring the web for a woman to live out his last decade on Earth with. A series of dates with potential partners at Olive Garden wherein Coulam repeatedly asserts the importance of natural breasts are truly amazing docu-theater, the kind of docuseries moments that make this show feel a bit more like “The Righteous Gemstones” than “Succession.”

Coulam’s empire is more than turkey legs in an abandoned field and endless breadsticks on awkward dates. The Texas Renaissance Festival is an impressive operation—one wishes the series spent a bit more time just on the sheer scope of an event with thousands of attendees, multiple shops, events, restaurants, etc. And Coulam loves to bathe in his success, whether it’s the opulence of his “rococo” house—which he basically explains means a lot of extravagance—or the fact that he’s basically founded a small town around the festival, over which he’s the mayor, of course. Coulam is judge, jury, and executioner in this mini-society, proclaiming how he wants to step down and find a successor but is increasingly erratic in his judgments and behaviors. It’s hard to be the King.

“Ren Faire” pushes forward three potential heirs to the Coulam throne: Jeff Baldwin, Louie Migliaccio, and Darla Smith. Baldwin is the most sympathetic of the bunch, an actor who loves Shrek: The Musical and seems to come to life on the stage. As the general manager of the festival, the kind Baldwin has undeniably been a success, but King George doubts his instincts to run the whole thing and gets obsessed with the fact that Jeff wants to hire his wife, even though she’s qualified and experienced to take the job. George is the insulated and privileged boss whose quirks can become toxic if you happen to rub him the wrong way on the wrong day. One feels that Jeff has done that a few times, which is normal for an employee, but George isn’t a normal boss. To take the “Succession” thing a step further, if George is Logan than Jeff is Kendall—the obvious heir to everyone but daddy.

The competition for the throne comes down to a kettle corn pioneer named Louie Migliaccio, who has created and managed numerous businesses on the Ren Faire property and has the bankroll from a family of wealthy donors to buy out George’s legacy. Vendor coordinator Darla Smith watches as Louie and Jeff battle each other and makes a bid for power on her own. Other personalities move in and out of King George’s court. Still, Oppenheim latches onto the “Game of Thrones” aspect of this business almost to a fault. There’s a version of “Ren Faire” that grounds its drama in a world that feels less exaggerated merely by presenting a few more of the “normal” people around George and his successors. For example, an assistant spends his days updating George’s dozen-plus dating website profiles and taking him to the aforementioned Olive Garden encounters. I wanted a whole episode about what he thinks of all of this.

However, the insulated, tight POV in “Ren Faire” is intentional in that it makes us feel as crazy as George and keeps the series engaging in George's unpredictable immediacy. He is a man driven around his empire, complaining when people aren’t wearing hats or yelling at his minions about their lack of planning. He is feared as much as he is respected, a man who seems downright confused at times … except when he’s talking about his fair. He is a riveting docuseries subject in that he seems entirely unaware of his flaws, having been lauded and admired in his self-created kingdom for generations. No wonder he doesn’t want to give up the throne. Who would he be without it?

Whole series screened for review. Premieres on HBO on June 2 nd .
