How to write a Fashion Designer cover letter

Here’s how you can write your own eye-catching cover letter, broken down into simple steps.

How to write a cover letter

Write your cover letter in the body of an email/message

When you send a cover letter with a job application, you should always write your message into the body of your email – or the body of the messaging system if you are sending via a job website.

Why do this?

Simply because you want to get your message seen as soon as the recruiter opens your application.

If you attach the cover letter as a separate item, this means the recipient will have to open it before they can read it – slowing down the process and potentially causing frustration along the way.

So, write your cover note in the body of your email/message to ensure you make an instant connection with the reader.

Write cover letter in body of email

Start with a friendly greeting

Cover letter address

Start you cover letter with a greeting that is professional but friendly.

This will build rapport with the recruiter whilst showing your professionalism.

  • Hi, hope you’re well
  • Hi [insert recruiter name]
  • Hi [insert department/team name]

Avoid overly formal greetings like “Dear sir/madam ” unless applying to very traditional companies.

How to find the contact’s name?

Addressing the recruitment contact by name is an excellent way to start building a strong relationship. If it is not listed in the job advert, try these methods to find it.

  • Check out the company website and look at their  About page. If you see a hiring manager, HR person or internal recruiter, use their name. You could also try to figure out who would be your manager in the role and use their name.
  • Head to LinkedIn , search for the company and scan through the list of employees. Most professionals are on LinkedIn these days, so this is a good bet.

Identify the role you are applying for

Now that you have warmed the recruiter up with a friendly greeting, firstly you need to let them know which role you are applying for.

Sometimes a recruitment consultant will be juggling 10 or 10 vacancies, so it’s important to specify which one you are applying to.

Give us much detail as possible (team/department, role title etc.) and paste in the reference number if you have one.

Here are some examples you can use.

  • I am interested in applying for the role of Fashion Designer with your company.
  • I would like to apply for the role of Sales assistant (Ref: 40f57393)
  • I would like to express my interest in the customer service vacancy within your retail department
  • I saw your advert for an IT project manager on Reed and would like to apply for the role.

Highlight your suitability

The main purpose of your cover letter is to excite recruiters and make them eager to open your CV. And you achieve this by quickly demonstrating your suitability to the job you are applying for.

Take a look at the job adverts you are applying for, and make note of the most important skills being asked for.

Then, when you write your cover letter, make your suitability the focal point.

Explain how you meet the candidate requirements fully, and why you are so well suited to carry out the job.

This will give recruiters all the encouragement they need to open your CV and consider your application.

Cover letter tips

Keep it short and sharp

A good cover letter is short and sharp, getting to the point quickly with just enough information to grab the attention of recruiters.

Ideally your cover letter should be around 4-8 sentences long – anything longer will risk losing the attention of time-strapped recruiters and hiring managers .

Essentially you need to include just enough information to persuade the reader to open up your CV, where the in-depth details will sit.

Sign off professionally

To finish off your cover note, add a professional signature to the bottom, stating your important contact details and information.

This not only provides recruiters with multiple means of contacting you, but it also adds a nice professional appearance to the cover letter, which shows that you know how to conduct yourself in the workplace.

Include the following points;

  • A friendly sign off – e.g. “Warm regards”
  • Your full name
  • Phone number (one you can answer quickly)
  • Email address
  • Profession title
  • Professional social network – e.g. LinkedIn

Here is an example signature;

Warm regards,

Aaron Smith Customer service professional 075557437373 [email protected] LinkedIn

Quick tip : To save yourself from having to write your signature every time you send a job application, you can save it within your email drafts, or on a separate document that you could copy in.

What to include in your Fashion Designer cover letter

Here’s what kind of content you should include in your Fashion Designer cover letter…

The exact info will obviously depend on your industry and experience level, but these are the essentials.

  • Your relevant experience – Where have you worked and what type of jobs have you held?
  • Your qualifications – Let recruiters know about your highest level of qualification to show them you have the credentials for the job.
  • The impact you have made – Show how your actions have made a positive impact on previous employers; perhaps you’ve saved them money or helped them to acquire new customers?

  • Your availability – When can you start a new job ? Recruiters will want to know how soon they can get you on board.

Steps or Template for Writing a Fashion Designer Job Cover Letter

Crafting a winning cover letter for a fashion designer position requires a blend of creativity, industry-specific knowledge, and a keen understanding of what employers are looking for. In the following sections, we'll explore each component of the cover letter, from the initial greeting to the closing sign-off, and provide actionable tips to make your application shine.

Heading and Salutation: The Perfect Start to Your Fashion Designer Cover Letter

A cover letter's heading and salutation are your first opportunity to make a positive impression. It's essential to get these details right to set the tone for the rest of your letter.

Your cover letter's heading should include your contact information, clearly and professionally presented. Here's what you should include:

Full Name : Your first and last name should be at the top of the page.

Job Title : Indicate that you are a Fashion Designer, or specify your area of expertise within the field.

Email Address : Choose a professional email address.

Phone Number : Include a reliable contact number, with country code if applying internationally.

Location : City and country are sufficient, but mention if you are open to relocation.

Portfolio Link : A link to your online portfolio is crucial for a fashion designer.

Personalizing the salutation shows attention to detail. Try to find out the name of the hiring manager or the head of the design department. If you can't find a specific name, use a general but respectful address.

Example Addressing Hiring Manager:

Dear Ms. Smith

Dear Alex Johnson

Example Addressing Company:

Dear Fashion Design Team

Dear Hiring Manager at [Company Name]

Remember, the opening of your cover letter sets the stage for the rest of your content, so make it count!

Addressing the Hiring Manager: Personalizing Your Fashion Designer Cover Letter

When addressing the hiring manager in your fashion designer cover letter, personalization is key. It demonstrates your attention to detail and shows that you've taken the time to research the company. This small effort can significantly impact how your application is received.

Tips for Addressing the Hiring Manager

Research the Company : Use the company's website, LinkedIn, or industry networks to find the name of the hiring manager or the head of the design department.

Be Respectful and Formal : Even if the fashion industry is known for its creativity and informality, maintain a professional tone in your salutation.

Use Titles Appropriately : If you know the hiring manager's title, use it. For example, "Dear Creative Director [Last Name]."

In Case of Doubt : If you cannot find a specific name, opt for a general but respectful address, such as "Dear Hiring Manager."

Dear Mr. Thompson

Dear Angela White

Dear Talent Acquisition Team at Versace

Dear Chanel Design Department

By addressing the hiring manager correctly, you start off on the right foot, showing that you are a professional who values personal connections.

Opening Paragraph: Crafting a Captivating Introduction

The opening paragraph of your cover letter as a fashion designer is your chance to grab the hiring manager's attention. It should be engaging, succinct, and convey your enthusiasm for the role and the company.

Tips for a Compelling Opening

Start with Enthusiasm : Express your excitement about the role and the company. Show that you're not just looking for any job, but specifically this one.

Mention a Key Achievement : Highlight a notable accomplishment in your career that's relevant to the role you're applying for. This could be a successful collection you designed, an award you won, or a significant project you led.

Connect with the Company : Demonstrate your knowledge about the company. Mention something specific about their brand, ethos, or recent collections that resonates with you.

Example Opening Paragraphs:

"I was thrilled to see the opening for a Senior Fashion Designer at Balenciaga. Having led a team that won the [Award Name] for innovative sustainable design, I am excited about the prospect of bringing my expertise in eco-friendly fashion to a brand renowned for its cutting-edge designs."

"As a lifelong admirer of Louis Vuitton's commitment to blending tradition with innovation, I am eager to contribute my decade of experience in high-end fashion design to your esteemed team, particularly after your groundbreaking recent collection inspired by [specific theme]."

A well-crafted opening paragraph sets the tone for the rest of your cover letter, making the hiring manager eager to read on.

Main Body of the Cover Letter: Detailing Your Fashion Design Expertise

The main body of your cover letter is where you delve into the details of your professional experience, skills, and specific qualifications that make you the ideal candidate for the fashion designer position. This section should be informative, engaging, and tailored to the job you're applying for.

Highlighting Relevant Experience and Skills

Tailor Your Experience : Focus on experiences and projects that directly relate to the job description. Share details about specific collections you've worked on, design projects, or roles that align with the responsibilities of the position you're applying for.

Showcase Your Unique Skills : Highlight the skills that set you apart in the fashion industry, such as a particular design technique, knowledge of sustainable materials, or expertise in a certain fashion genre.

Demonstrate Industry Knowledge : Show that you're up-to-date with current trends and industry standards. Mention any relevant fashion shows, events, or publications where your work has been featured.

Using Specific Examples

Provide Context : When discussing past roles or projects, give enough context to help the hiring manager understand the significance of your work.

Quantify Achievements : Where possible, use numbers or statistics to quantify your successes, such as the sales growth for a collection you designed or the scale of a fashion show you contributed to.

Example from Main Body of Cover Letter:

"In my recent role at Yves Saint Laurent, I spearheaded a team that developed an award-winning avant-garde collection, which resulted in a 20% increase in media coverage for the brand. My dedication to merging classic elegance with modern trends was evident in this collection, aligning well with your brand's vision of innovative yet timeless design."

The main body of your cover letter should paint a clear picture of why you are the best fit for the role, using specific examples and experiences from your career.

Ending Section: Concluding Your Fashion Designer Cover Letter

The concluding section of your fashion designer cover letter is your chance to wrap up your argument as to why you are the ideal candidate for the position. It should reiterate your interest, summarize your qualifications, and include a call to action.

Summarizing Your Qualifications

Restate Your Interest : Reaffirm your enthusiasm for the role and the company.

Highlight Key Qualifications : Briefly summarize the qualifications and experiences that make you a perfect fit for the job.

Express Confidence : Convey confidence in your ability to contribute positively to the company.

Call to Action

Encourage Further Discussion : Invite the hiring manager to contact you for an interview or further discussion.

Provide Contact Information Again : Though it's already in the header, reiterating your contact information here makes it easy for the hiring manager to reach out.

Professional Sign-Off

Use a Professional Closing : Opt for traditional closings like "Sincerely" or "Best regards."

Include Your Name : End with your full name for a formal finish.

Example Ending Section:

"I am very enthusiastic about the opportunity to bring my unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and innovative design to [Company Name]. I am confident that my hands-on experience and creative vision would be a valuable addition to your team. Please feel free to contact me at [phone number] or [email address] to arrange an interview. I look forward to the possibility of contributing to [Company Name]'s continued success.

Best regards,

[Your Full Name]"

A well-crafted ending leaves a lasting impression and can significantly increase your chances of being called for an interview.

How to write a cover letter for a fashion designer

A fashion designer's job may allow for a bit of imagination. However, be sure that your resume and cover letter ingenuity is elegant and appropriate. Choose a sleek interface with a unique look in the information. A cover letter, motivation letter or an application letter is linked to or accompanied by another file, including a résumé or curriculum vitae. The primary goal of a cover letter or motivational letter is to convince an HR professional that you are the best applicant for a specific role. Here are some tips to follow when composing a cover letter for a fashion designer;

  • Research the employer and the business. It will assist you in standing out from the sea of candidates. Big corporations, for instance, sometimes have different divisions for online and offline activities. Similarly, emailing the right person gives you credits.
  • Be as brief as possible, both in terms of vocabulary and duration. Your resume contains a lot of material. There's no reason to go over it all again in your cover letter. Illustrate the benefits you offer to the company and highlight your expertise if it is outstanding. When you're just starting, rely on your key strengths.
  • It is up to you to effectively show your capabilities. As a result, mention your strengths and skills.
  • It is your responsibility to choose who may receive your career application. Before writing your cover letter, get some information about the hiring manager to add their name to the cover letter. Do your study and be thorough about the job position.
  • These days, no one has the patience to read lengthy letters. Two-three paragraphs are sufficient. People's attention spans have significantly declined. So get their interest with a catchy initial statement and then present them with something fun and valuable. Make it apparent what they will receive if they recruit you.
  • Don't go overboard when describing yourself. It is better to write a follow-up email if you don't hear from the recruiter.

  • Emphasizing the candidate's proven track record in both fashion design and photography ensures that the hiring manager recognizes the unique dual expertise the applicant brings to the table.
  • Quantifiable achievements, such as leading to a 15% increase in collection sales and a 30% surge in social media engagement, provide concrete evidence of the applicant's impact and effectiveness.
  • Highlighting the alignment of personal creative goals with the company's brand and standards helps in establishing a sense of shared vision and potential for cultural fit.
  • Mentioning specific experiences, such as conducting hands-on workshops and spearheading team initiatives, showcases leadership skills and the ability to foster team growth and company advancement.

The format of your freelance fashion designer cover letter: structure, fonts, margins, and more

Your freelance fashion designer cover letter should include a header (with your name, position, and date); a greeting and introductory paragraph; a body and closing paragraphs; and an optional signature.

Remember that you're writing your freelance fashion designer cover letter for recruiters - as the Applicant Tracker System won't scan this content.

Here are a few more tips and tricks to keep in mind when formatting your freelance fashion designer cover letter:

  • Use the same font in your freelance fashion designer cover letter and resume . We recommend modern fonts, e.g. Lato and Rubik, to help you stand out, instead of the stereotypical Arial and Times New Roman.
  • Each paragraph should have single spacing, which is already set up for you in our cover letter templates .
  • Our cover letter builder follows industry standards for your freelance fashion designer cover letter formatting - with a one-inch margin, surrounding your content.
  • Always export your freelance fashion designer cover letter in PDF to ensure the image or text quality stays the same and your writing isn't moved about.

The top sections on a freelance fashion designer cover letter

  • Header: This includes your name, contact information, and date, which are crucial for the recruiter to know who you are and how to reach you, establishing the first line of communication.
  • Greeting: Address the letter to a specific person if possible, showing that you’ve done your research and are personally interested in working with their fashion brand or company.
  • Introduction: Introduce yourself as a freelance fashion designer, highlighting your passion for fashion design and any unique personal branding or design philosophy you have, which is key to standing out in a creative field.
  • Professional Experience and Achievements: Detail your relevant fashion design experience, notable projects, and specific accomplishments, demonstrating your track record and how your skills can benefit the prospective client or employer.
  • Closing: Express your enthusiasm for the opportunity, your willingness to provide a portfolio, and thank the reader for their time, ending your letter on a polite and expectant note, inviting further discussion.

Key qualities recruiters search for in a candidate’s cover letter

  • Strong portfolio showcasing original designs and a diverse range of styles, demonstrating creativity and a keen fashion sense.
  • Proficiency in fashion design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) and technical drawing skills to effectively communicate design ideas.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current fashion trends, forecasts, and industry movements to create relevant and appealing collections.
  • Experience with material selection, pattern making, and garment construction, ensuring practical and producible designs.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to work on tight deadlines, reflecting the often time-sensitive nature of fashion projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with clients, manufacturers, and suppliers to realize design visions.

How to start your freelance fashion designer cover letter: with a greeting, of course

Have you ever considered just how powerful a personalized salutation can be?

We sure have news for you! Your freelance fashion designer cover letter should start with the right salutation to recruiters, nurturing a sense of respect and individuality.

Greet recruiters by using their first name (e.g. "Dear Tom" or "Dear Patricia") if you've previously established contact with them.

Otherwise, opt out for the less familiar, "Dear Ms. Peaches" or "Dear Ms Kelsey", if you've found the recruiter's name on LinkedIn or a corporate website.

"To whom it may concern" is never a good option, as it creates a sense that you've been sending out your freelance fashion designer cover letter to anyone. Instead, use "Dear HR team" or "Dear (company name) recruiter" for a feeling of exclusivity.

List of salutations you can use

  • Dear Hiring Manager,
  • Dear [Company Name] Team,
  • Dear [Department] Manager,
  • Good Day [Recipient's Name],
  • Dear Mr./Ms. [Recipient's Last Name],
  • Dear [Recipient's Full Name],

Your freelance fashion designer cover letter intro: showing your interest in the role

On to the actual content of your freelance fashion designer cover letter and the introductory paragraph .

The intro should be no more than two sentences long and presents you in the best light possible.

Use your freelance fashion designer cover letter introduction to prove exactly what interests you in the role or organization. Is it the:

  • Company culture;
  • Growth opportunities;
  • Projects and awards the team worked on/won in the past year;
  • Specific technologies the department uses.

When writing your freelance fashion designer cover letter intro, be precise and sound enthusiastic about the role.

Your introduction should hint to recruiters that you're excited about the opportunity and that you possess an array of soft skills, e.g. motivation, determination, work ethic, etc.

The middle or body of your freelance fashion designer cover letter body: a great instrument to tell a story

Now that you've set the right tone with the greeting and introduction of your freelance fashion designer cover letter, it's time to get down to business .

Hear us out, the body of your freelance fashion designer cover letter is the best storytelling instrument you have, in your job-hunting arsenal.

Writing the next three to six paragraphs, take the time to reassess the advert to discover job-crucial requirements.

Next, choose one accomplishment that covers those key skills and talents.

Use precisely that achievement to tell an exciting story of how you match the ideal candidate profile.

In the undertones of your story or freelance fashion designer cover letter body, hint at the difference you'd make and sell your application as the perfect one for the job.

Ending your freelance fashion designer cover letter: a closing paragraph with a promise

If you're thinking of finishing your freelance fashion designer cover letter with a "Sincerely yours" or "Thanks for the consideration," you need to read on.

End the final paragraph of your freelance fashion designer cover letter with a twist:

  • a promise - of how you'd grow as a professional, part of the company, or improve organizational metrics;
  • a call to action - prompt interviewers with some follow-up actions if they are interested in your profile.

A personalized ending would surely help you to stand out by being a memorable candidate.

What could you write about in your freelance fashion designer cover letter when you have no experience

Candidates with zero professional experience often struggle to write their freelance fashion designer cover letter .

You may lack experience, but your application could still be impressive when you focus on your strengths.

Consider your most relevant talents (and/or one achievement) that align with the role and help you stand out.

Perhaps you spent every summer volunteering at your local dog pound - think of the job-relevant skills this experience taught you.

Sharing your tangible career goals is another good strategy to stand out.

Key takeaways

Writing your freelance fashion designer cover letter doesn't need to turn into an endless quest, but instead:

  • Create an individual freelance fashion designer cover letter for each role you apply to, based on job criteria (use our builder to transform your resume into a cover letter, which you could edit to match the job);
  • Stick with the same font you've used in your resume (e.g. Raleway) and ensure your freelance fashion designer cover letter is single-spaced and has a one-inch margin all around;
  • Introduce your enthusiasm for the role or the company at the beginning of your freelance fashion designer cover letter to make a good first impression;
  • Align what matters most to the company by selecting just one achievement from your experience, that has taught you valuable skills and knowledge for the job;
  • End your freelance fashion designer cover letter like any good story - with a promise for greatness or follow-up for an interview.

As a freelancer, knowing how to sell yourself is what ultimately lands you the job. I know a lot of fashion designers, and it’s not always the “best” ones who have the most success in freelancing. It’s the ones who know how to pitch and sell themselves, on  UpWork and beyond, that get the most clients and make the most money.

The first step to standing out is by writing a great proposal that grabs your potential client’s attention and addresses their needs.

It’s kinda insane how many freelancers on UpWork write terrible proposals. I have hired a lot of people – fashion designers and beyond – on UpWork, and 80% of the pitches I get go straight in the trash. They’re generic, templated copy/paste cover letters that don’t even show they read my job post.

This is your opportunity to show potential clients why YOU are the perfect fit for the job. With a little extra effort, you can win a lot more gigs.

Top 8 Tips for Writing an UpWork Proposal for Fashion Designers

Here are my best UpWork proposal tips that have helped me and my students snag hundreds of thousands of dollars in projects and clients.

cover letter about fashion designer

  • Keep it short and sweet:  Clients go through DOZENS of proposals for a single UpWork job posting. You only have a few seconds to grab someone’s attention, so my rule of thumb is to keep it to 3-4 paragraphs. If it’s a really long description, you may need to include more to address all their points.
  • Add a personal touch:  Use the client’s name or company name whenever possible. This simple trick shows that you are attentive, but it’s crazy how many people don’t do this! (I hire from UpWork a lot, and let me tell you, most people don’t use my name even though I sign every post, “Thanks, Heidi.”) If their name isn’t in the job description, check their reviews. Sometimes past freelancers have mentioned it! If you can’t find it there, try and at least use a company name.
  • Highlight relevant skills and work experiences:  Showcase your education, work experience, and past projects relevant to the job description. And don’t be afraid to name-drop any recognized brands you’ve worked for to boost credibility, as long as they’re relevant to the category or role.
  • Address the client’s needs:  Tailor your proposal to the client’s specific needs and showcase how your skills align perfectly with their project requirements. Most of the time, the answers are already in the client’s job posting. If they mention they need an activewear tech pack designer that can get the job done in 3 weeks, tell them about your experience in making tech packs and activewear, and show them your commitment to meeting their deadline. (And of course, make sure to follow through!) Pro Tip:  Use the exact words from the job listing in your UpWork proposal cover letter. If they say they want someone who can help with “design through bulk production,” and who can “create professional tech packs with specs,” use that exact phrasing. This works because as they read your proposal, they’ll think, “yes, this is exactly what I need!”
  • Showcase your curated portfolio:  Your portfolio should be doing 80% of the talking.   Include a curated portfolio with sample projects relevant to the client’s needs. Sure, it’s tempting to dump in every single project you’ve worked on but when you only have 3 seconds to impress, you need to make it count! If you want more tips on crafting your portfolio, head over to my  Guide on Creating Your Fashion Portfolio (in a weekend!) .
  • Address the elephant in the room:  The reality is, a lot of newbies struggle to snag their first clients on UpWork. One technique that works great for this is mentioning your expertise beyond UpWork. For example, you can say “ Although I am new to UpWork, I have 3 years of experience as a womenswear pattern maker in the garment manufacturing industry. ” Then attach your CV and portfolio as proof. Everyone starts from zero at some point, and I know clients who personally hire UpWork newbies just based on their determination and a standout cover letter. (I have!)
  • Express genuine interest:  Compliment them, ask a thoughtful question, and invite them to discuss further. This shows your commitment to not only understanding their needs but also fostering a productive and collaborative partnership from the get-go.
  • Always proofread:  Sounds super basic but do not take this for granted! Seemingly small grammatical errors and typos can make your proposal look unprofessional, and you might even miss out on an awesome opportunity just because of these minor mistakes.
True Story:  I know some clients who automatically filter out applicants with spelling or grammar mistakes in their proposals. You don’t want to miss out on opportunities just because of something as simple as “your” vs “you’re.”

Small tweaks can be powerful. If you’re anything like Lucia, you may be sending out pitches for six months and still not landing any gigs. That’s a LOT of work for nothing to show for it. Lucia knew something wasn’t right with her pitches, so she enrolled in my program,  Freelance Accelerator: from Surviving to Thriving (FAST) , and started making small changes to her proposals using my freelancing strategies. Within a couple of  weeks,  she landed a job for $1,890. And then another one! And another! All on UpWork! You can hear Lucia’s full story on my Fashion Designers Get Paid podcast.

How to Write an UpWork Proposal for Fashion Designers: Step-by-Step (with samples)

To help you learn how to write a winning UpWork proposal, I’ll guide you through the step-by-step process using a job posting and include samples you can follow.

cover letter about fashion designer

Step 1: Understand the job description carefully

Read through the job description and assess which key aspects stand out to you.

For example, in this job posting, the client is looking for an experienced fashion designer for an affordable luxury petite brand’s first collection. They need someone with a strong background in product development, from trend forecasting up until the  production of the clothing line.

Keep these points in mind while writing – you will use the exact words and phrases from the post in your proposal.

Step 2: Make a personalized and attention-grabbing opening

Use the client’s name right at the intro. A tailored introduction shows you’re paying attention and care, rather than just blasting over a generic cover letter.

Dear [Client’s Name],

I’m thrilled to submit my proposal for the Fashion Designer role for your upcoming affordable luxury petite brand. As a petite girl myself, your vision resonates deeply with my personal design philosophy, and I’m excited about the prospect of collaborating with you to bring this collection to life.

Step 3: Showcase your relevant skills and experience in the fashion industry

Keep in mind what skills and experience the client is looking for and make sure to reflect this in your proposal.

With a solid 3-year background as a luxury womenswear fashion designer, my specialization lies in design and product development. Additionally, my previous role as a technical fashion designer has helped me enhance my skill set, allowing me to navigate the entire design journey – from inception to final execution.

Step 4: Address the client’s specific needs

Show you understand the brief clearly and can deliver by directly answering the needs they stated in the job description.

I have worked closely with local and international brands, making their collections come to life. This includes several luxury start-up brands such as Éclat and Luxelle, where I spearheaded the design team responsible for launching their successful first collections.

Step 5: Include relevant work samples

Find relevant products that hit exactly what they’re looking for. If you’ve worked on any successful projects recently, add them.

You can browse through the most recent projects I’ve done with both luxury brands in the portfolio I’ve attached below, including other relevant projects I’ve worked on in the past. If you’re interested in seeing more of my work, feel free to check my online portfolio through this  link .

Step 6: Express genuine interest

Finally, end your proposal on a good note, and add a CTA (call to action) to reach out. Make it SUPER clear that the next step they should take is to hop on a call.

I am really looking forward to the opportunity of collaborating with you on this amazing opportunity.

Your brand’s commitment to making luxury accessible to the petite demographic strikes a chord with me and I would love to know more about your vision!

If it sounds like a good fit, I’d love to schedule a call so we can discuss more details.

The Final UpWork Proposal Cover Letter Sample

Don’t make this beginner upwork mistake.

One common mistake I see a lot of freelance fashion designers make is trying to cater to a wide range of services. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that offering general services or applying for a variety of roles will increase your chances on UpWork. The truth is, people go to UpWork to hire specialists – they want someone who can help them with their exact problem. Focus on being niche, and you will 10x your chances of standing out with that one change.

cover letter about fashion designer

Eleni, a tech pack designer from Greece, is a great example of being niche. She started with no real industry experience and focused only on tech packs. Working part-time on UpWork, Eleni consistently earns $3-4k a month! That’s 4-5x the average wage for a fashion designer in Greece. Read more about Eleni’s story  here .

By  zeroing in on a niche , whether it’s designing luxury petite wear, sustainable fashion, or tech packs for active and loungewear, you set yourself apart from dozens of other applicants. Yes, there will be fewer jobs to apply to, but you will be a perfect match for them.

If you’re unsure where to start, here are  24 services you can offer as a freelance fashion designer !

Is UpWork Really the Best Platform for Freelance Fashion Designer s?

A lot of my students have seen great success on UpWork, and of all the freelancing platforms out there, it’s the only one I (and they!) recommend . But it can be an uphill battle to get your first few clients. You have to be on high alert and respond quickly when a job is posted, and even with a great proposal, it can be hard to get a job without any ratings. Plus, depending on your services or category, there may not be many job listings on there. I have multiple sweater and knitwear designers in FAST, and none of them have had luck finding any gigs.

The good news is you’re not limited to just UpWork and other platforms to find clients. For more tips on building your business as a freelance fashion designer, check out my free Ultimate Guide to Being A Freelance Fashion Designer . You can apply the strategies to UpWork, but I also go through a lot of other places and ways to get work.

Anna Always On Brand

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Anna Wintour attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

Vogue editor-in-chief and Met Gala co-chair Anna Wintour is decidedly on-theme in a floor-length black jacket embroidered with a colorful spray of flowers. A vine-like diamond brooch complements the botanical look along with a queenly necklace that marks her as the reigning royalty here today.

Wicked Witch of the Web

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Emma Chamberlain attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

Former Rolling Stone cover star Emma Chamberlain goes goth, channeling the “Sleeping Beauty” theme (and evil queen?) in a lace black gown with dark makeup. The 22-year-old may be best known as a sweet and bubbly content creator, but on this night, she’s showing off a decidedly more wicked streak.

Long Live Queen Z

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Zendaya attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

Zendaya strut down the Met Gala carpet in a peacock-inspired gown designed by John Galliano for Maison Margiela Artisanal. The dress features a drape and bow created from aluminum and organza, and a hand-painted veil and hat wrapped in stockings. Now that’s what we call a showpiece.

K-Pop Royalty

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Jennie Kim attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images)

It’s royal blue for K-pop royalty, as Blackpink’s Jennie makes her return to the Met Gala carpet. Just like the multi-faceted star, Jennie’s gown is a multi-dimensional masterpiece, showing off her toned legs and midriff in the front, with a sweeping train at the back. Now that’s how you shut it down.

Furiosa Fashion

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Chris Hemsworth attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images)

Chris Hemsworth avoids both the armored aesthetic of Thor and the unkempt look of his post-apocalyptic warlord character in the upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga . He does show off a little chest, however, with an unbuttoned shirt underneath a simple tan three-piece suit. Does it scream “Garden of Time”? Not really, but he is wearing a (Chopard) watch.

Can’t Get Enough

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Jennifer Lopez attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Theo Wargo/GA/The Hollywood Reporter via Getty Images)

This is her… now. Jennifer Lopez proves she still has few, if any, equals when it comes to attending events in precariously revealing clothes. This time around, it’s Tiffany jewels and a silvery custom Schiaparelli gown that leaves little to the imagination and flares outward with wings up top (while trailing a lacy train behind that a couple of tuxedoed assistants have taken great pains to carry and position for photos).

Nothing Bad About It

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Bad Bunny attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

If this gala is all about looking unflappable in fashions that verge on the absurd, then Bad Bunny has struck the ideal entrance — wearing the first big hat of the night. That puffy medieval headgear, combined with the angular sunglasses, black blazer (apparently still bearing a tailor’s chalk marks), and red-striped pants give him the air of a musketeer (or a matador from the future).

5-Star Fashion

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: (L-R) Bang Chan, Han, Felix, Seungmin, Hyunjin, I.N, Lee Know, and Changbin of Stray Kids attend The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/MG24/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

Stray Kids made their Met Gala debut in coordinating Tommy Hilfiger looks that were custom-designed to match this year’s theme, while staying true to Tommy’s All-American aesthetic. Always one to have fun with fashion, the K-pop group turned up in bespoke navy overcoats before doffing them to reveal their matching red, white and blue suits.

Portrait Perfect

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Nicki Minaj attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by John Shearer/WireImage)

One hopes there are no bees inside the Met: in a year when most went literal on the “garden” element of the theme, Nicki Minaj’s Marni dress is absolutely exploding with brightly colored petals. The saturated tones and roughed-in style have her looking like she just stepped out of a Matisse painting.

Slaying the Fashion Game

Gwendoline Christie at the 2024 Met Gala: "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6, 2024 in New York City.

The Game of Thrones star is no stranger to drama and she delivers on all fronts with this maroon gown, sculpted blond hair and black sheer cape. Forget surviving the red wedding: Christie slays the red carpet.

Delivering on Dapper

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Steven Yeun attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images)

There’s no beef with this outfit from Steven Yeun, who paired an embroidered three-piece suit with army-style black boots. And while other stars showed up on the carpet with a date or statement bag, Yeun’s accessory for the night was decidedly more practical: an umbrella.

Model Goes Metal

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Ashley Graham attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Aliah Anderson/Getty Images)

Model Ashley Graham turns heads in spiky bangs and a custom form-fitting black gown by Ludovic de Saint Sernin. Decked out with metal and Swarovski crystal and Jared jewelry , Graham shared on Instagram that the piece took 500 hours of hand work to bring to life.

Broadway Baby (Bump)

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Lea Michele attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images)

Did Lea Michele just reveal her pregnancy – and the gender of her child – on the Met Gala carpet? The Broadway star debuted her baby bump in a powder blue dress that has us whipped up in baby fever (or just a cotton candy dream).

Risky Business

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Troye Sivan attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Aliah Anderson/Getty Images)

Troye Sivan is giving business meets bondage in this Prada fit, which plays off the luxury label’s classic suiting with an edgy twist. Always want to subvert fashion (and music) trends, Sivan’s appearance kicks off a busy season for the popstar, who’s slated to head out on tour with Charli XCX this summer.

A Lofty Lana Look

Lana Del Rey at the 2024 Met Gala: "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6, 2024 in New York City.

Lana says yes to an elaborate gauzy headpiece — a custom Alexander McQueen inspired by a similar piece from the late designer’s 2011 retrospective exhibit, “ Savage Beauty .” Instead of deer antlers, this take puts the emphasis on a pattern of thorny brambles that wind around her sand-colored gown and up through the veil.

Not a Barbie Girl

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Greta Gerwig attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images)

After a year of thinking pink , Barbie director Greta Gerwig opts for all-black (and trousers) on the Met Gala carpet. Gerwig broke box office records with the Barbie film and she’s breaking from tradition here with her monochromatic look, but in our opinion, it’s yes, more than kenough .

Lovin’ on Jack

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Jack Harlow attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Aliah Anderson/Getty Images)

Jack Harlow makes a return appearance to the Met Gala in a sharp, gray suit with contrast-color lapel. He doesn’t need no whips and chains to work in a theme either, giving a nod to the “garden” dress code with a small bouquet of flowers pin.

Like Sands Through the Hourglass

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Tyla attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

Singer Tyla may well win the award for most creative interpretation of the theme, stunning as a human hourglass in a sands-of-time-inspired custom Balmain gown that may as well be painted on. An hourglass accessory — who needs a functional purse tonight? — ensures that there’s no mistaking this sublime concept.

Baila Conmigo

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Rauw Alejandro attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

Rauw Alejandro brings reggaeton to the red carpet in another standout Ludovic de Saint Sernin look for the night. This time, the Puerto Rican star goes glam in a glittery disco ball top and cream suit that’s as suitable for the gala as it is for the after-party dance floor.

Challenge Accepted

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Josh O'Connor attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

After showing off fancy footwork on the tennis court in Challengers , Josh O’Connor joins a gala co-chaired by co-star Zendaya in what appear to be floral clogs. It’s a whimsical touch matched by his extra-long tuxedo tails for a vibe that’s rather formal above the waist and anything but below.

X Marks the Spot

Lil Nas X at the 2024 Met Gala: "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6, 2024 in New York City.

Lil Nas X is no stranger to making a statement on the red carpet but dare we say his look this year is decidedly more… demure? That’s what you get when previous Met Gala looks have included everything from a gold jumpsuit to silver body paint (and not much else). Still, there’s lots to love about this year’s fit, which features a slouchy, oversized silhouette and enough sparkles to light up the room he walks into.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Kim Kardashian attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

Kim Kardashian is a silver siren in this Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano gown, which features chain and floral accents cut from real mirror fragments. Kim paired the look with a cashmere cardigan, proving that sexy and cozy can seemingly co-exist in one garment.

The Grande Dame

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Cardi B attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images)

The “B” in Cardi B is for big, bold and bouffant as the superstar rapper (literally) took over the carpet in this extraordinary – and exaggerated – gown. Just how big was this dress? It took a team of ten people to help carry the train and set it down just right for photographers.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Donald Glover attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Theo Wargo/GA/The Hollywood Reporter via Getty Images)

Childish Gambino is giving grown-up tycoon in a Nineties-inspired Saint Laurent suit paired with a taupe brown shirt and oversized tie. The Mr. & Mrs. Smith star is clearly taking notes from his hit Prime Video series, which stars Glober as a stylish secret spy.

Spring Awakening

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Ayo Edebiri attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Theo Wargo/GA/The Hollywood Reporter via Getty Images)

Easter may be over, but Ayo Edebiri brings a basket of blooms to the Met carpet in this fresh and floral dress. The springtime design perfectly captures the night’s ‘Garden of Time’ theme and proves the Emmy-winner is a force to be reckoned with both on and off-screen.

Lizzo Returns

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Lizzo attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by John Shearer/WireImage)

In one of her first major public appearances since a dramatic “ I QUIT ” Instagram post in March, evidently prompted by criticism related to allegations of sexual harassment and creating a hostile workplace, Lizzo hits the red carpet in a funnel-shaped Weinsanto design that has divided some viewers. Her speckled eye makeup, meanwhile, has garnered glowing reviews.

Stanning Sam Smith

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: (L-R) Christian Cowan and Sam Smith attend The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Aliah Anderson/Getty Images)

After rocking a racecar driver tracksuit in the music video for “ Desire ,” Sam Smith makes their Met Gala debut in a custom old-world tuxedo by their partner and date for the evening, designer Christian Cowan, that features a sheer chiffon skirt overlay. The singer may have had the quip of the evening: asked by a reporter what they expect from fashion in the future, they replied, “Clothes in my size in stores.”

Giving Us Something

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Dua Lipa attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images)

It’s unlikely anyone will bring a bigger feather boa to this year’s gala than Dua Lipa. She confirms her Radical Optimism with an eye-catching mixture of layers and delicate textures from Marc Jacobs with Tiffany & Co. diamonds. It’s on the busy side, sure, but her confident poses are selling this gothic realness.

Wet and Wild

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Doja Cat attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Theo Wargo/GA/The Hollywood Reporter via Getty Images)

Did we really think Doja Cat was going to show up to the Met Gala in an Amazon towel ? Despite earlier photos online, the singer and rapper turned up in a Vetements dress, though she kept the fresh-out-the-shower look – the white gown mimics a wet T-shirt, while her makeup (intentionally) features mascara running down her cheeks.

It’s Mister Domingo to You

Colman Domingo at the 2024 Met Gala: "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6, 2024 in New York City.

Not many men were born to wear capes but Colman Domingo is one such red-carpet superhero, sweeping into the event with a black-and-cream ensemble by Willy Chavarria that makes for a strikingly elegant silhouette. Like several other attendees, he completes the presentation with a bouquet of flowers — in this case, white calla lilies.

Garden of Gigi

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Gigi Hadid attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by John Shearer/WireImage)

While there’s no shortage of flowers on display tonight, Gigi Hadid has taken the idea a step further with a custom white Thom Browne dress that has enough ruffles to resemble a flower in its own right. Even so, it’s festooned with more green vines and light yellow blossoms (and Chopard jewels) — she’s pulling around an entire garden.

Russell Rules Red Carpet

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Taylor Russell attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

Taylor Russell stuns in a gorgeous Grecian-style gown that channels her inner golden goddess. The Bones and All actress arrived on the Met Gala carpet sans rumored beau Harry Styles, only further proving that this star can shine all on her own.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Greta Lee attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images)

There’s no looking past this outfit from Past Lives star Greta Lee, who interprets the night’s theme in a sheer, baby’s breath-inspired dress over (what we assume) is a nude bodysuit. Extra points for the severe bangs and sharp makeup too.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Jeff Goldblum attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

Expect the eccentric from Jeff Goldblum, who tends to dress like he’s headed to a fashion show no matter what he’s actually doing that day. Here it’s a relatively understated (for him) overcoat with white scarf and gloves — opera gear, basically — though with jeweled pins and shades that give him a slight edge of steampunk villain.

Eternal Sunshine

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Ariana Grande attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

If the Costume Institute’s new exhibition is titled “ Sleeping Beauties ,” consider Ariana Grande the fairest of them all. Ari walked, nay fluttered , down the carpet in an intricate kaleidoscope-effect dress with exaggerated wings adorning the side of her face. The singer and co-star Cynthia Erivo made their Met Gala appearance to promote the upcoming musical, Wicked , and this outfit hits all the right notes.

Dare to Be Demi

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Demi Moore attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Theo Wargo/GA/The Hollywood Reporter via Getty Images)

No half-measures for Demi Moore. Tonight the actress is wearing a heart-shaped creation from Harris Reed that’s bristling with arrows — the floral fabric is repurposed silk wallpaper — as well as a sumptuous Cartier necklace. Apologies to anyone else who came as a reimagined Cupid, because this will be tough to beat.

Escola Es Guapo

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Cole Escola attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images)

It’s a breakout ensemble from the breakout comedian who stole scenes in Difficult People and Search Party and is now dazzling audiences in their unhinged Off-Broadway show Oh, Mary! Wearing all white — veiled hat, tuxedo jacket and bow tie, and a long skirt — they’ve channeled the spirit of a haunted doll, complete with a wicker lamb basket full of carnations.

Elle Enchanted

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 06: Elle Fanning attends The 2024 Met Gala Celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 06, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images)

Since the Costume Institute’s spring 2024 exhibition is called “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” it’s only right that Sleeping Beauty herself would be on the scene in a dress that pays homage to some of the fairy princess’ doting forest companions. Elle Fanning’s ice-like dress is custom sculpted by Balmain.

Couple Goals

Gus Wenner at the 2024 Met Gala: "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Lexie Moreland/WWD via Getty Images)

While Fanning first posed for photographers solo, she later reunited on the Met Gala carpet with boyfriend (and Rolling Stone CEO) Gus Wenner, where they shared a sweet embrace. A lovely end to fashion’s fairytale night.

Here's what they should include: 1. **Introduction**: Start with a strong opening that captures the reader's attention. Mention the position you're applying for, how you found out about it, and why you're excited about the opportunity. 2. **Education and Training**: Briefly outline your fashion-related education, including any degrees, diplomas, or relevant coursework. Highlight any special projects or collections you've developed that showcase your design skills. 3. **Technical Skills**: Mention your proficiency with fashion design software (like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, CAD programs, etc.), understanding of textiles, pattern making, draping, and other technical skills that are pertinent to the job. 4. **Internships and Experience**: If you've had internships or work experience, even in a different field, discuss what you learned and how those skills transfer to a fashion design role. Emphasize any experience you have that involves creativity, teamwork, and meeting deadlines. 5. **Personal Design Philosophy**: Share your design aesthetic or philosophy. Explain what inspires you, whether it's art, culture, history, or current trends, and how this influences your work. 6. **Portfolio**: Reference your portfolio without going into too much detail (since it should speak for itself). Encourage the hiring manager to view it to see your range of work and the evolution of your designs. 7. **Soft Skills**: Highlight soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and the ability to work collaboratively. The fashion industry is fast-paced and often requires a team effort, so these skills are highly valued. 8. **Understanding of the Brand**: Show that you've done your research by mentioning something specific about the company or brand that resonates with you. Explain why you would be a good fit for their aesthetic, values, and market. 9. **Professionalism and Enthusiasm**: Convey

Kendall Jenner Donned Never-Worn Archival Couture for the 2024 Met Gala

Kendall Jenner has become an impressive vintage collector, with a closetful of impeccably preserved Alaïa and Mugler, but the 2024 Met Gala marked her most impressive archive pull yet.

“I made a dream list of who I would ideally want to go with, and I would have died to wear something by Alexander McQueen ,” says Jenner, who covers the summer 2024 issue of Vogue . The model dove into his Givenchy archive to find her perfect Met look. (The late designer served as creative director of Givenchy from 1996 to 2001.) “The house of Givenchy is in a unique transition of creative directors, and the house opened its privately protected archives for Kendall at the Met,” says Jenner’s stylist, Dani Michelle . “We did a ton of research, specifically on the work of the talented and remembered Alexander McQueen, and Kendall and I both fell in love with this dress. Shockingly, they had it.”

Last night, Jenner became the first person to ever wear one of McQueen’s fall 1999 looks for Givenchy haute couture. The collection was presented on mannequins and never shown on the runway. Since its presentation, Jenner’s look was preserved in the Givenchy archives, where it returned after the model wore it to the 2024 Met Gala. “It’s been sleeping for the last 25 years. It’s literally a ‘sleeping beauty,’” Jenner says. “It’s such a special moment. I feel extremely honored that they’re allowing me to wear it.”

Following the event, Twitter sleuths uncovered a photograph of Winona Ryder wearing what appeared to be the same dress in a 1999 issue of Flaunt Magazine. But Givenchy confirmed that Ryder wore a replica of the look, meaning that Jenner was, in fact, the first person to ever wear the dress.

Since the dress had been kept in pristine condition, tailoring was forbidden. “So the big moment of truth was, Does it fit me? And it literally fits me like a glove,” Jenner says. “The rest is history, and it really feels meant to be in a way.”

Constructed of nude and black tulle, the dress is covered with more than 100,000 black and brass beads and sequins, which were hand-embroidered over 500 hours. Not only is it an impressive feat of labor, the waist cutouts and regal, sculptural collar and shoulders make it a true work of art. “No matter what Kendall does with her style, it has to speak to her—the look has to come alive,” Michelle says. “We saw such a story behind the dress and the darker queen of a Sleeping Beauty story.”

Vintage was an especially inspired choice—and a massive flex on Jenner’s part—for the “Sleeping Beauties” exhibition, which seeks to examine how we can engage with clothing we can no longer wear. As soon as Jenner learned the 2024 Met Gala theme , she saw it as a chance to dabble in her love of vintage as well as create an opportunity to wear garments that speak to her. “The theme, to me, screamed archival,” Jenner says, adding that she also interprets it as “beauty that’s been slept on.” Plus, “the way it’s cut in the back, and the low butt—all these beautiful things feel very me.”

The structured Givenchy wasn’t the only piece Jenner wore on Met Gala night from Alexander McQueen’s time at the House. For the after-parties , she changed into a white dress from 1997, complete with a silk skirt with a high-low hem, and an angel wings bodice.

The 2024 Met marked Jenner’s 10th Met Gala , and her first wearing an archival look, which she accessorized with custom Studio Amelia shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. In the past decade she’s delivered some truly jaw-dropping moments—from her foray into naked dressing in La Perla in 2017 to her Vegas showgirl look with her sister Kylie in 2019. But this year, thanks to McQueen’s Givenchy archive at her fingertips, may mark the most impactful Met showing for Kendall Jenner yet.

Harley Quinn's New Jester Costume Is a Gift to DC Cosplayers

Spider-man goes full horror against marvel's version of five nights at freddy's, 10 best supergirl costumes in dc history.

  • The Gotham City Sirens return in 2024 with fresh costumes, blending high-fashion with original design elements.
  • W. Scott Forbes transforms Harley Quinn into a high-fashion icon with a stunning pink and blue ensemble, daring haircut, and bold pose.
  • Harley's new costume also pays homage to her original costume through various design elements.

With the return of the Gotham City Sirens this summer, the trio unveils new costumes, including a pink and blue ensemble for Harley Quinn that represents the ultimate high-fashion evolution of her original design. However, Harley's transformation goes beyond clothing in this variant cover art; she also sports an ambitious haircut that is bound to divide fans.

On August 7, 2024, Harley Quinn will join forces with Catwoman and Poison Ivy in Leah Williams and Matteo Lolli’s Gotham City Sirens #1 . This marks the beginning of a four-part mini-series where the Sirens embark on a western-themed adventure to combat animal cruelty.

Despite the series' release being several months away, DC is keeping fans engaged by unveiling the main covers and variant covers. Among them is a W. Scott Forbes variant cover that presents Harley Quinn in an unforgettable high-fashion makeover , reimagining the Siren like never before.

W. Scott Forbes’ Variant Cover Transforms Harley Quinn Into Runway Model Ahead of Gotham City Sirens Series

Forbes’s variant cover showcases Harley, alongside Poison Ivy , Catwoman, and Punchline, dressed in Met Gala-worthy attire. Harley’s ensemble captivates with its soft blues and pinks, accented by occasional dashes of white. She appears to be wearing a mini-dress, although this detail is somewhat obscured by her model-worthy pose. Her outfit is complemented by an oversized coat jacket, a white ruff collar, thigh-high boots, and gloves that extend past her elbows. However, what truly defines this outfit is its " cross-color " concept, where elements are split between pink and blue hues .

For instance, one of Harley’s gloves is pink while the other is blue, a pattern mirrored in her boots and other parts of the costume. She also adopts eye shadow and hair coloring that adhere to this cross-color pattern. However, the blue and pink makeup and hair dye are less noticable due to their faintness. Speaking of Harley’s hair, this marks a significant design departure as she ditches her usual flowing blond locks in favor of a bowl cut. Surprisingly, she pulls it off quite well, although this daring hairstyle choice is likely to divide fans.

Harley Quinn's original jester costume design gets taken to new extremes with trippy official art that is sure to inspire some epic cosplays.

Harley’s New Pink and Blue Outfit Is the High-Fashion Evolution of Her Classic Costume

Harley's pink and blue ensemble represents the pinnacle of her original costume's evolution, seamlessly blending elements of the past with a contemporary flair. Similar to Forbes's rendition, the classic costume also embraced a cross-color pattern, albeit with black and red instead of blue and pink. Forbes's choice of pink and blue mirrors more recent interpretations of the character, which typically features said colors in her makeup and hair. Additionally, the inclusion of the white ruff pays homage to the Siren's original jester-inspired aesthetic. Thanks to Forbes' high-fashion twist, this is one of Harley Quinn's most bold costumes.

Behind the collection with our designers

Levi’s® x princess mononoke, campaigns /  july 2023.

Our collaboration with the animated classic, *Princess Mononoke*, pays tribute to the enchanting world created by its makers, Japan’s pioneering Studio Ghibli. Here, the Levi's® design team discusses their creative process and inspirations.

LEVI’S® AND STUDIO GHIBLI ARE BOTH VERY DETAIL-CENTRIC AND ICONIC IN THEIR OWN WAYS.

– Levi's® Design Team

“Levi's® has a long history and a very iconic look—it's what’s made us stand out for 170+ years. And from the beginning of Studio Ghibli’s co-founding by Director Hayao Miyazaki, they’ve also been stylistically iconic—when you see one of their films, you know it’s Studio Ghibli. Throughout Miyazaki’s work, his scrutiny of detail is unparalleled. The craftsmanship shows. And Levi's® has set the bar super-high as far as timelessness goes. Levi's® and Studio Ghibli are both very detail-centric and iconic in their own ways. We built the collection around celebrating several of Levi's® iconic pieces—including our 501® ’93 Jeans, which came out roughly the time *Princess Mononoke* was released. But we also had pieces that lent themselves to a Japanese aesthetic.”

*PRINCESS MONONOKE* FEATURES HAND-PAINTED BACKGROUNDS DEPICTING GORGEOUS SCENES IN NATURE, AND THAT’S SOMETHING WE FELT REALLY INSPIRED BY.

Into the landscape.

“We used the beautiful, lush environments, too. *Princess Mononoke* features hand-painted backgrounds depicting gorgeous scenes in nature, and that’s something we felt really inspired by. We wanted to bring an emphasis on that into the pieces.”

LIGHT DENIM DAY

“Our light indigo denim features key characters San and Ashitaka out in the sunlit day. For our San & Wolf Trucker Jacket and Ashitaka 501® ’93 Jeans (or, for warm days, the San & Moro 501® Shorts), we used the forest and sun background from the film, and integrated the scenery with the denim. The sky imagery is actually the light blue wash of the denim coming through, so it’s this lovely integration of the art and our denim.”

DARK DENIM NIGHT

“There’s a lot of play on the light and dark of the film—for instance, the Nightwalker, a forest spirit that only comes out during the night, dawn or dusk. On the advice of the Ghibli team, we were able to use their image on our darker indigo pieces—the Nightwalker Denim Kimono Jacket and the Kodama Denim Overall. The dark indigo creates the atmosphere out of which this character appears: the Nightwalker rises up into the nighttime sky with all the little Kodama, or tree spirits, in the treetops gazing up at them.”

Video still from Princess Mononoke animated film featuring Night Walker and Kodama tree spirits

THE PACING OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE DENIM AND THE GRAPHIC TEES MIMICS THE PACING OF THE FILM.

The graphic tees & hoodie.

“While our approach to the denim was atmospheric, for the graphic tees and hoodie we moved closer to the characters, using the film’s own language to give voice to their ideologies—as with Ashitaka’s words: ‘To see with eyes unclouded by hate.’ These pieces are more direct, more streetwear-inspired than the denim. But there's a rhythmic juxtaposition between the two. *Princess Mononoke* has these beautiful, quiet moments—and then all of a sudden there’ll be a frenetic action sequence. Our pacing of the relationship between the denim pieces and our graphic tees and hoodie mimics the pacing of the film.”

Image of people wearing Levi's® x Princess Mononoke collection pieces and posing in forest setting

BEAUTY IS IN THE SMALL THINGS

“We wanted to create little moments from the film that you could take around with you every day. Our bandana—a classic Western-American Levi's® piece—features San’s mystical red battle mask, so it felt like a marrying of the two. For a head-to-toe look, the Ancient Forest Bucket Hat can be worn with our light indigo denim hookup, but obviously you can wear it with other pieces, too. Another way to keep *Princess Mononoke* by your side—literally—is to carry our San & Ashitaka Tote, with San on one side and Ashitaka on the other. And our two coin bags, one featuring San’s mask and the other a Kodama face, are for wearing around your neck or hanging off a belt loop or tote.”

WE HOPE PEOPLE SEE IT AS A BIT OF A LOVE LETTER, FROM LEVI’S® AND STUDIO GHIBLI.

From us to you.

“We tried to create moments within the clothing that were universally accessible—that work aesthetically whether you’re a casual observer or a super-fan. We hope people see the love and detail that went into this collection, how meticulous our work was. Most fans of Studio Ghibli films—and maybe particularly of *Princess Mononoke*—have a huge appreciation for the artistry that goes into them.

We hope people see it as a bit of a love letter, from Levi’s® and Studio Ghibli. We wanted to capture the beauty of the film and how meaningful the message is. We hope that, in seeing the collection, people feel nostalgic for the film. We hope people feel transported into the environment of the clothes. And we hope people feel excited to see their favorite characters, and wear them proudly.”
