A business contract is a legal agreement between a buyer and seller of goods or services. Large corporations, smaller entities, and individuals can use this document when making business exchanges.

It should include all details about the exchange, including payment, the type of goods or services, and each party’s responsibilities. This legal document will protect the buyer and seller if the other party doesn’t hold up their end of the agreement.

Is Every Business Agreement a Contract?

Not every business agreement is a contract. However, a business agreement becomes a legal contract when it meets the following four conditions:

  • It indicates that the agreement is legally binding.
  • It details the exchange of something valuable.
  • It involves parties who can understand the agreement’s legal obligations and terms.
  • It provides terms with unconditional acceptance.

A business contract is a legally binding document where each party agrees to an exchange, typically involving money, goods, or services. Business contracts protect both buyers and sellers by reducing agreements to writing. While you may not need to seek notarization for a business contract, you may still consider it to increase its legitimacy.

Business contracts require an offer, acceptance, consideration, and a meeting of the minds. They can be as long or short as necessary to cover the essential details.

When to Use a Business Contract

Here are some instances when using these legal contracts can be useful:

  • Forming partnerships or collaborations
  • Transferring business ownership
  • Employing staff or hiring independent contractors
  • Procuring or vending goods or services
  • Renting or leasing commercial property
  • Sharing confidential information with partners or employees
  • Concluding mergers or acquisitions

When you start a new company, you may need to complete the following documents:

  • Incorporation or Formation Documents: Legally establish your business. You may have to file these documents with your state, depending on your jurisdiction and business type.
  • Founders’ Agreement : Highlights the duties and roles of each company founder.
  • Operating Agreement (for LLCs): Explains the framework for an LLC’s operations.
  • Bylaws (for Corporations) : Governs a corporation’s internal management structure.
  • Employment Agreement: Establishes the terms of employment. You need to complete this document with each part-time and full-time employee you hire.
  • Independent Contractor Agreement: Enter into a relationship with a contractor who provides specialized services on a contractual basis.
  • Confidentiality Agreement : Prevents specific parties from sharing confidential information. It helps you protect trade secrets and proprietary information, and it can be unilateral (one-way) or bilateral (two-way).
  • Customer Contract: Helps you ensure customers understand both parties’ responsibilities in a client-business relationship.
  • Vendor or Supplier Agreement: Helps a business secure the goods it needs to operate and prevent issues that could affect its productivity.
  • Commercial Lease Agreement: Rent a property where you can conduct your business.
  • Partnership Agreement: Establishes each partner’s rights and responsibilities within a business partnership. It also specifies the type of partnership, whether a general, limited, or limited liability partnership.
  • Intellectual Property Assignment Agreement (IPAA): Transfer intellectual property (IP) rights from one entity to another.

Step 1 – Determine Why You Need a Contract

Determine why you need a contract before you write it out. The type of contract you need will determine the details, terminology, and language to include.

For example, some contracts involve exchanging services for payment, while others involve exchanging goods. Seek legal advice from an attorney or another legal expert to ensure you remain in compliance and execute the proper contract.

Step 2 – Define All Relevant Parties

Define all relevant parties in the agreement by providing the following information for each one:

  • Business address (or residence address if you’re working with a customer)
  • Points of contact (email address, phone number, etc.)
  • Payment details and terms
  • Deadlines and time limits
  • Project requirements and scope of work

Confirm that all individuals signing the contract can serve as their organization or entity’s legal representative. This way, you can prevent issues if any party ever needs to pursue legal action against the other.

Step 3 – Include the Essential Elements of a Contract

All contracts share essential elements to make a legally binding agreement. These elements are the following:

  • A valid offer: One party should extend an offer, such as providing services or goods, to the other.
  • Acceptance: Both parties must agree to and accept the contract’s terms. If either party refuses acceptance, the other party can’t execute the document.
  • Consideration: The parties must exchange something of value for the contract to be valid.

Both parties must also clearly understand the agreement they sign, be of legal age, and have the legal capacity to enter an agreement. The agreement must also contain legal actions. For example, the contract can’t facilitate the sale of illegal substances.

Step 4 – Name the Appropriate Governing Law and Jurisdiction

Federal regulations will govern your contract, but you’ll also be subject to state-specific provisions.

Please note that your state or jurisdiction may use different guidelines to interpret certain sections of your agreement. Specify which state’s laws will apply to your agreement so that all parties are on the same page.

Step 5 – Explain All Details in Plain Language

Avoid using overly complex language in your contract agreement. Incorporating simple, plain language can increase comprehension for both parties, ensuring everyone knows what the agreement entails.

Using long blocks of text can make the text difficult for readers to scan. Instead, incorporate visual elements and other tools to increase readability and comprehension. For example, you can add proposals, sales quotes, expense forms, invoices , and bills of materials.

Step 6 – Use Repeatable Language

When you write a business contract, you don’t have to start from scratch every time. Use one of our free contract templates as a starting point. This way, you can include standardized terms and agreed-upon legal language.

Include party-specific information to tailor your contract as necessary. When you use a business contract template, you can save time while ensuring that you are thorough and incorporate legal requirements.

Step 7 – Describe Methods for Renewal, Termination, and Dispute Resolution

Explain the procedures for termination. For example, you may want to terminate the contract if it fulfills its purpose and you no longer need it. You may also want to terminate it if one party doesn’t fulfill their end of the agreement.

On the other hand, everything with the arrangement might be going well. If so, you may wish to renew the agreement. Describe how to renew the contract if both parties desire to do so.

Still, you can outline dispute resolution methods if a disagreement arises. This way, you’ll have a solid remediation plan, letting you resume the relationship efficiently.

Step 8 – Be Specific About Requirements, Deadlines, and Payment Plans

Outline the requirements of the arrangement. Explain what each party has to provide, including deadlines and the scope of work.

For example, suppose you have service agreements with customers for a cleaning company. You should emphasize what services you’ll provide and how frequently. The agreement should also state the customer’s responsibilities, like providing you with efficient access to their property.

A business contract should also state the payment terms. Depending on the agreement both parties reach, the payment details may differ. For example, if you enter a rental agreement, you may agree to make monthly rental payments. However, if you enter into a sales agreement to purchase equipment, you may make one lump payment at the time of the exchange.

Step 9 – Include NDAs or Non-Compete Agreements If Necessary

Business agreements may benefit from the inclusion of NDAs or non-compete agreements. This way, the other party won’t start a competing business, work for a competitor, or share confidential information. Tailor the NDA or non-compete agreement to your specific goals, ensuring the other party understands their limitations once they sign it.

Step 10 – Obtain Both Parties’ Signatures

Once both parties involved agree to the proposed terms and work through any remaining provisions, you can sign the document and obtain their signature.

Can I Force Someone to Sign a Business Contract?

You cannot force someone to sign a contract. However, you can refuse to do business with someone who won’t sign a contract. Losing your business might be the “nudge” another party needs to reconsider their position.

Do I Need a New Contract If I Want to Change the Agreement’s Terms?

Yes. Any time the terms of the agreement change, you should document the changes in a new contract. The new contract should also clarify if it replaces the old one entirely.

What Is a Conditional Business Contract?

A conditional business contract is one in which certain conditions must be true before the contract goes into effect.

For example, suppose you have a snow removal business. In that case, your service agreement may read, “Ace Snow Removal will remove snow from parking lots, walkways, and business entrances after snowfalls of two inches or more.”

This contract is conditional because the company will only provide its snow removal services if it snows at least two inches.

How Do I Cancel a Business Contract?

Cancel a business contract by learning if it has cancellation provisions depending on specific reasons or causes. For example, you may follow specific steps if you cancel it because an illegal action or misrepresentation occurs.

If you cancel a contract, you may request to cancel in writing, preferably using a notice of contract termination .

Do Business Contracts Require Signatures?

Yes. To be legally enforceable, both parties should sign the business contract.

If a service agreement is cancelled after 30 day notice does the payment terms agreement become invalid even if it was agreed to be for 15 months

I clean for a living I had contracted clients for office buildings they can't have 30 day notice for nothing but our terms state they will pay for 15 terms on first.of each month but stated would only pay have half this month due to 30 ending mid.month however agreement says payment due on first of 1407. Or service on be suspended until payment but do they owe for the next 3 months regardless

A contract is an agreement between parties on how they are going to conduct business with each other. What is written in the contract is crucial to being able to determine what the agreement of the parties truly is. Contracts are all about the words on the page and what they say exactly. A well-drafted contract will make the responsibilities of both parties very clear. A notice provision in a contract typically will say how much time a party has to give notice to the other party before the contract is terminated. This is different than what a term provision will say. For example, sometimes contracts will have language that says a contract cannot be terminated before the expiration of a certain time period. In that case, if one party terminates the agreement, full payment of the contract is still required to be made even if the service is not rendered. Other times, the term set forth in the agreement (e.g. 15 months) serves as a guarantee of price and other terms in the agreement. For example, "Contractor agrees to perform cleaning services to the Buyer for 15 months, at $XXX per month. At the end of the term, this contract will auto renew and will continue month to month until terminated by either party." Proration is a term that is used to describe when a partial payment can be made. If the contract does not allow for proration and instead gives a monthly payment, then the full monthly payment would be due. Contracts are all about what is written specifically in the contract. If terms are missing there can be interpretation of what the parties actually meant.

How to write a business plan for a service business.

The traditional service business plan format includes these 10 key elements:

Executive Summary

Your executive summary provides an introduction to your business plan in 1 – 2 pages, but it is normally the last section you write because it provides a summary of each key section of your plan.

The goal of your executive summary is to quickly engage the reader. Explain to them the type of services business you are operating and the status. For example, are you a startup, do you have a services business that you would like to grow, or are you operating a chain of services businesses?

Next, provide an overview of each of the subsequent sections of your plan. For example, give a brief overview of the service industry trends. Discuss the type of service business you are operating. Detail your direct competitors and your competitive advantage. Give an overview of your ideal customers. Provide a snapshot of your marketing plan. Identify the key members of your team, and offer an overview of your financial plan.

Company Overview

In your company description, you will detail the type of service business you are operating.

In addition to explaining the type of service business you operate, the company analysis section of your service business plan needs to provide background on the business.

Include answers to questions such as:

  • When and why did you start the business?
  • What milestones have you achieved to date? Milestones could include sales goals you’ve reached, new store openings, etc.
  • Your legal structure. Are you incorporated as an S-Corp? An LLC? A sole proprietorship? Explain your legal structure here.

Industry Analysis

In your industry analysis, you need to provide an overview of the service business.

While this may seem unnecessary, it serves multiple purposes.

First, researching your specific niche of the service market educates you. It helps you gain insights and understand the market in which you are operating. 

Secondly, market research can improve your strategy particularly if your research identifies market trends. For example, if there was a trend towards more eco-friendly services, your company might want to emphasize its environmentally friendly initiatives.

The third reason for market research is to prove to readers that you are an expert in your industry. By conducting the research and presenting it in your plan, you achieve just that.

The following questions should be answered in the industry analysis section of your service business plan:

  • How big is the service business (in dollars)?
  • Is the market declining or increasing?
  • Who are the key competitors in the market? What is your market share?
  • Who are the key suppliers in the market?
  • What trends are affecting the industry?
  • What is the industry’s growth forecast over the next 5 – 10 years?
  • What is the relevant market size? That is, how big is the potential market for your service business. You can extrapolate such a figure by assessing the size of the market in the entire country and then applying that figure to your local population.

Customer Analysis

The customer analysis section of your service business plan must detail the target market you serve and/or expect to serve.

The following are examples of customer segments in the service industry:

  • Businesses in need of a specific service, such as computer repair or consulting
  • People who have a need for a service that is not currently being met
  • People who are price conscious and are looking for the best deal on a service
  • People who want to support businesses with social responsibility values

As you can imagine, the customer segment(s) you choose will greatly depend on the type of service business you operate. Some of your clients may want different pricing and product options and would respond to different marketing promotions compared to other target customer segments.

Try to break out your target market in terms of their demographic and psychographic profiles. With regards to demographics, including a discussion of the ages, genders, locations, and income levels of the customers you seek to serve. Because most service businesses primarily serve customers living in the same city or town, such demographic information is easy to find on government websites.

Psychographic profiles explain the wants and needs of your target customers. The more you can understand and define these needs, the better you will do in attracting and retaining your existing clients.

Competitive Analysis

Your competitive analysis should identify the indirect and direct competitors your business faces and then focus on the latter.

Direct competitors are other businesses that provide similar services.

Indirect competitors are other options that customers have to purchase from that aren’t direct competitors. This includes businesses that provide an alternative solution to the services that you provide, but not the exact service. Think do-it-yourself and public options for similar services. You need to mention such competition to show you understand that not everyone who needs the specific services will engage your service business.

With regards to direct competition, you want to detail the other service businesses with which you compete. Most likely, your direct competitors will be service businesses located very close to your location. 

For each such competitor, provide an overview of their businesses and document their strengths and weaknesses. Unless you once worked at your competitors’ businesses, it will be impossible to know everything about them. But you should be able to find out key things about them such as:

  • What types of customers do they serve?
  • What products and services do they offer?
  • What is their pricing (premium, low, etc.)?
  • What are they good at?
  • What are their weaknesses?

With regards to the last two questions, think about your answers from the customers’ perspective. And don’t be afraid to stand outside your competitors’ locations and ask customers as they leave what they like most and least about them.

The final part of your competitive analysis section is to document your competitive advantages. For example:

  • Will you provide superior services?
  • Will you provide services that your competitors don’t offer?
  • Will you make it easier or faster for customers to book your services?
  • Will you provide better customer service?
  • Will you offer better pricing?

Think about ways you will outperform your competition and document them in this section of your plan.

Marketing Plan

Traditionally, a marketing plan includes the four P’s: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion. For a service business plan, your marketing plan should include the following:

Product : in the product section, you should reiterate the type of service business that you documented in your Company Analysis. Then, detail the specific services you will be offering. For example, in addition to a lawn care business, you may offer to trim trees, bushes, and hedges.

Price : Document your business’s pricing strategy including the prices you will offer and how they compare to your competitors. Essentially in the product and price sub-sections of your marketing plan, you are presenting the services you offer and their prices.

Place : Place refers to the location of your service business. Document your location and mention how the location will impact your success. Discuss how your location might provide a steady stream of customers. 

Promotions : the final part of your service business marketing strategy is the promotions section. Here you will document how you will drive new customers to your location(s). The following are some promotional methods and marketing materials you might consider:

  • Advertising in local papers and magazines
  • Reaching out to local bloggers and websites 
  • Social media advertising
  • Local radio advertising
  • Pay per click advertising
  • Banner ads at local venues

Client Retention

Your service business plan should discuss not just how you will find clients, but how you’ll hold on to them and discourage them from switching to one of your competitors. After all, it should be much less expensive to keep a client than to market and sell services to a new one. Some methods of retaining customers involve creating the perception of switching costs; that is, that they will lose money and time when switching to a new service company. Others involve fine-tuning your customer service skills into a system designed around retention.

Loyalty Program

Creating a loyalty program is a positive way to retain customers. This could involve a punch card system where customers receive a free service after a certain number of visits, or it could involve a points system where customers accumulate points that can be redeemed for discounts or free services. Other loyalty programs offer exclusive deals and privileges to members, such as special access to new services before they are made available to the general public.

Premium Customer Levels

Another related retention strategy is to reward the frequency and/or the amount of money that customers spend with your service business. This is often done by creating different customer levels and providing perks to customers who reach a certain level. The higher the customer level, the more exclusive the perks. Common perks include discounts on services, express service, access to unique services or products, and early notice of promotional deals.

Referral Program

A referral program is a great way to keep customers happy and encourage them to refer their friends and family members. This could involve rewarding customers with a discount or free service for every new customer they refer, or it could involve giving customers a set amount of credit for each referral. Either way, the referral program should be designed to be as simple as possible for customers to participate in.

Customer Testimonials

Finally, customer testimonials can be a powerful retention tool. As potential customers research your service business, they will likely come across your website and online profiles. Seeing positive customer testimonials on your website and across the internet will help convince them that you provide outstanding customer service. You can create a separate page on your website that is dedicated to client testimonials, or you could set up a separate social media profile that features client testimonials and allows customers to provide feedback through a special email address.

Tracking Retention

Simply tracking the numbers and percentages involved in your customer retention can yield valuable information about what you’re doing right or wrong and how successful new initiatives are over time. Statistics to track may include client complaints, the average speed of complaint resolution, the percentage of customers in a given month who were using your services last month, 3 months ago, 6 months ago, a year ago, etc, and so on. When your staff is aware of these statistics and is given targets to work towards, the message that customer service and retention is a priority is heard loud and clear.

Operations Plan

While the earlier sections of your service business plan explained your goals, your operations plan describes how you will meet them. Your plan should have two distinct sections as follows.

Everyday short-term processes include all of the tasks involved in running your service business such as serving customers, procuring supplies, etc.

Long-term goals are the milestones you hope to achieve. These could include the dates when you expect to serve your 100th client, or when you hope to reach $X in sales. It could also be when you expect to hire your Xth employee or launch in a new city.

Management Team

To demonstrate your service business’s ability to succeed as a business, a strong management team is essential. Highlight your key players’ backgrounds, emphasizing those skills and experiences that prove their ability to grow a company. 

Ideally, you and/or your team members have direct experience in the service business. If so, highlight this experience and expertise, but also highlight any experience that you think will help your business succeed.

If your team is lacking, consider assembling an advisory board. An advisory board would include 2 to 8 individuals who would act as mentors to your business. They would help answer questions and provide strategic guidance. If needed, look for advisory board members with experience in a service business and/or successfully running small businesses.

Financial Plan

Your plan should include your 5-year financial statement broken out both monthly or quarterly for the first year and then annually. Your financial statements include your income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.

Income Statement : an income statement is more commonly called a Profit and Loss statement or P&L. It shows your revenues and then subtracts your costs to show whether you turned a profit or not.

In developing your income statement, you need to devise assumptions. For example, will you serve 20 customers per week or 50? And will sales grow by 2% or 10% per year? As you can imagine, your choice of assumptions will greatly impact the financial forecasts for your business. As much as possible, conduct research to try to root your assumptions in reality.

Balance Sheets : While balance sheets include much information, to simplify them to the key items you need to know about, balance sheets show your assets and liabilities. For instance, if you spend $50,000 on building out your service business, that will not give you immediate profits. Rather it is an asset that will hopefully help you generate profits for years to come. Likewise, if a bank writes you a check for $50.000, you don’t need to pay it back immediately. Rather, that is a liability you will pay back over time.

Cash Flow Statement : Your cash flow statement will help determine how much money you need to start or grow your business, and make sure you never run out of money. What most entrepreneurs and business owners don’t realize is that you can turn a profit but run out of money and go bankrupt. For example, let’s say a company approached you with a massive $100,000 damage restoration contract that would cost you $50,000 to fulfill. Well, in most cases, you would have to pay that $50,000 now for supplies, equipment rentals, employee salaries, etc. But let’s say the company didn’t pay you for 180 days. During that 180 day period, you could run out of money.

In developing your Income Statement and Balance Sheets be sure to include several of the key costs needed in starting or growing a service business:

  • Cost of equipment to perform the service
  • Cost of maintaining an adequate amount of supplies
  • Payroll or salaries paid to staff
  • Business insurance
  • Taxes and permits
  • Legal expenses

Attach your full financial projections in the appendix of your plan along with any supporting documents that make your plan more compelling. For example, you might include any insurance company affiliations or remediation licenses.

Drafting the Summary

An executive summary is an extremely important first step in your business. You have to be able to put the basic facts of your business in an elevator pitch-style sentence to grab investors’ attention and keep their interest. This should communicate your business’s name, what the products or services you’re selling are and what marketplace you’re entering.

Ask for Help

When drafting the executive summary, you should have a few different options. Enlist a few thought partners to review your executive summary possibilities to determine which one is best.

After you have the executive summary in place, you can work on the company description, which contains more specific information. In the description, you’ll need to include your business’s registered name , your business address and any key employees involved in the business.

Intangible Goals

Goals unrelated to traceable numbers are important as well. These can include seeing your business’s advertisement reach the general public or receiving a terrific client review. These goals are important for the direction you take your business and the direction you want it to go in the future.

The business plan should have a section that explains the services or products that you’re offering. This is the part where you can also describe how they fit in the current market or are providing something necessary or entirely new. If you have any patents or trademarks, this is where you can include those too.

Looking for a broad choice of bells and whistles? As a telecom behemoth, AT&T has plenty of cell phone features and packages to offer a business—around 20 plan variations, small to large. All plans include free US roaming, unlimited talk, and text messages, as well as unlimited texting outside of the country. Basic features like call forwarding, voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, and conference calling also come standard with all AT&T business cell phone plans, along with bring-your-own-phone support.

Business Unlimited plan prices start at $35 a month per line, and there is a new perk where unlimited data is included in the unlimited talk and text plan. This means there is no need to worry about overages or data caps. 

 AT&T business plans can also accommodate up to 10 lines per account, and they come fully loaded with perks—like Stream Saver. This feature optimizes streaming video on your phone to 480p so you can watch webinars on-the-go without dealing with a blurry picture.

Each plan also includes a decent array of iOS and Android smartphone options and even a few good ol’ flip phones. A 15% military veteran discount can be applied to the Business Unlimited plans, as well as AT&T-owned DIRECTV services (because, again, telecom behemoth).

Users are eligible for a discount if they elect for autopay and paperless billing but this discount is only applied until after two pay periods. We don't know why the discount cannot be applied earlier in the billing process but we do find it frustrating. 

T-Mobile: Best flexible plans

Not sure exactly what you’ll need in a mobile plan besides future adaptability? T-Mobile, the third-largest wireless service in the US, offers four Magenta¼ for Business plans, all packed with unique features that set T-Mobile apart from the rest. The German-owned company has also earned a reputation for stellar customer service and was the first to eliminate annual contracts (an idea that stuck—none of the plans reviewed on this page require contracts). In April 2018, the company announced its intention to merge with Sprint under the T-Mobile banner.

T-Mobile users with a Business plan can also add the PlusUp add-on and get extra features, like Voicemail to Text, HD streaming, 20 GB of 4G LTE mobile hotspot data, unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi, caller ID, and double the data speed when roaming internationally.

Keep in mind, though, that T-Mobile’s Business plans are available only on plans with two to 13 lines. If you need more than 13 lines, you’ll need to sign up for the 13+ Plan ($285 per month for 13 lines, plus $25 per month for each additional line).

T-Mobile plans also allow bring-your-own-device convenience, or you can buy phones up front with a single payment (there are nearly 40 iOS and Android phones to choose from).

Now that T-Mobile and Sprint have been merged for almost six months, some significant changes have taken effect. T-Mobile’s website is now the only place businesses can sign up for Sprint or T-Mobile business phone accounts.

Sprint still has an active business website for previous users but all new plans will be sold by T-Mobile on its website.

Verizon: Best growing business plans

Serving over 150 million customers, Verizon isn’t just big, it’s BIG. Such a mobile mammoth might not seem like the obvious choice for a small business, but for what it lacks in a personalized customer service reputation, Verizon more than makes up for by offering every cell phone feature there is, as well as dominant US, and near-dominant global, coverage. Like McDonald’s and Marvel movies, Verizon is everywhere.

While business owners can get business cell phone plans with limited data, we recommend choosing an unlimited plan if you have multiple employees (or do a lot of work via cell phone).

Verizon’s Business Unlimited cell phone plans are scalable from four employees up to and over 40. And with plans starting at just $40 per line, Verizon Business Unlimited plans are an attractive option whether you’re running a tiny company with no expansion plans, a medium-sized business with an eye toward growth, or a large enterprise with heavy cell phone requirements.

Verizon Beyond Unlimited plans also include unlimited mobile hotspot use, though your speeds are limited depending on your plan. Plus, you get unlimited calling and texting to Mexico and Canada—not to mention unlimited calling, texting, and data while in those countries. And naturally, you also get unlimited talk and text as part of your Beyond Unlimited package.

Verizon doesn’t skimp on device choices either. There are nearly 100 iOS and Android phones and tablets available—including the Verizon Jetpack, a mobile hotspot device that can connect 10 devices to its 4G LTE network and an additional five to 3G.

If your company requires truly “unlimited” cell phone service and scalability to grow and is in the position to pay for functionality with frills, Verizon Business Unlimited is the way to go. Bare-bones operations, however, might want to look elsewhere.

We are sure you’ve seen the commercials with Ryan Reynolds talking about this new phone carrier business with a fox logo called Mint Mobile. In fact, a lot of Mint customers were drawn to Mint because of Ryan Reynolds Hollywood looks, but that’s not the only thing Mint has to offer. 

Mint is inexpensive and transparent, compared to other cell phone carriers with hidden fees and seemingly random regulations.

T hese are the prices for new customers and will last up to three months. After the third month, you are eligible to sign up for a 6- or 12-month contract on one of the tiered plans, all less than $35/mo/user, which is astronomically less than other providers. 

MintMobile is no fuss, and you really do feel like you must be tricking the rest of the world with its pricing. The only issue is that MintMobile is fairly new, launched in 2015, coverage is not completely everywhere. There are still a couple of coverage gaps in the West, namely Utah, Nebraska, Idaho and Nevada. If you are east of the Rocky Mountains, you are good to go!

Teltik: Best perks plans

If you’re a strapped startup, New Jersey’s Teltik can get you up and running on the cheap. Teltik is a reseller service operating on T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network, meaning it can offer the reliability and reach of a giant provider at smaller-company prices. Teltik also has the advantage of being completely US-based, with 24/7 local customer service that’s not outsourced overseas.

Teltik appears to have a dozen plans, but they’re mostly just variations of the essential plan that offers all the expected basics. Not coincidentally, the features mirror those of T-Mobile, as they’re on the same network.

The most basic plan starts at $20 a month and includes unlimited calling and texting, mobile hotspot service, and unlimited data—with a 2 GB cap on 4G LTE speeds (meaning your speed gets throttled to 128 Kbps if you use more than 2 GB of data in a month). From there, you can upgrade your plan to include more 4G LTE data and more mobile hotspot data. Upgraded plans cost anywhere from $30 to $40 per month, and they all include one cloud-phone VoIP line—perfect for small businesses looking to save on all their telecommunications needs.

One distinctly entertaining feature (pun intended) of Teltik’s business plans? You get unlimited media streaming from over 40 music services (including Spotify, Pandora, and Apple Music) and more than 100 video services (including YouTube, Netflix, and any other channel you can think of). That means you can stream as much TV as you want without it eating into your data. It’s almost as if Teltik doesn’t want you to get any work done.

Another thing you need to know: Teltik doesn’t sell phones. Instead, the company operates on a strict bring-your-own-device basis. Any unlocked phone will work with its network, as will any T-Mobile device, of course. However, you will have to spend $10 plus shipping and handling to buy a new SIM card for each of your devices (unless they’ve already got brand-new, unused T-Mobile SIM cards).

What looks like a great deal could turn out to be more than you actually need—or you may have initially underestimated your business’s cell phone requirements. If you have several employees working outside of the office on a regular basis, desk-bound phones obviously aren’t going to work for them. Some may be only calling and texting while others will be checking email, using GPS navigation, and accessing the internet for work, but a cell phone is a must for employees in the field.

If you’re a one-person operation accountable to only yourself, you could get by with a personal cell plan. Keeping track of multiple employees’ hours, data, and providers, however, would be an extra headache you don’t need. For streamlining and collaboration purposes, a business cell phone plan would be the easier route.

Most of the plans we’ve reviewed here offer unlimited data—domestically, at least—so hitting the data ceiling won’t likely be an issue. But if you want to forecast how much data your business uses every month, providers make data plan estimators available on their websites. Or you could use a third-party calculator app.

BYOD stands for bring your own device . Another common term is BYOP for bring your own phone . These can mean that employees are using their personal phones, tablets, or laptops on their own carrier plans for work or that they’ve put those devices on the company’s plan. The upside? Moscow major projects

Since launching modern Russia’s largest construction program in 2011, Moscow has more than doubled its territory. To catalyze the full potential of this rapidly-growing metropolitan area of 19.5 million people, the City of Moscow’s government pays significant attention to infrastructure as one of the key pillars of urban development—with a current focus on projects that create livable and comfortable urban spaces for both citizens and tourists.

Following its first five years of projects, Moscow was given special recognition for “demonstrating outstanding strategic commitment and ambition” by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). That period saw 50 million square meters of real estate developed, 370 social infrastructure objects built, and the metro expanded by 30 percent—including 101 kilometers of metro lines and 55 new stations. Innovative finance solutions, necessitated by the city government’s debt-free approach to development, enabled all this whilst maintaining a budget surplus and remaining a net donor region within Russia.

On 30-31 May 2018, the City of Moscow and Mosinzhproekt—a large Russian engineering, construction and project management company—hosted an Innovation Site Visit to showcase Moscow’s major projects to the Global Infrastructure Initiative (GII) community. Through roundtable discussions and site visits with project executives, participants explored where innovation and technology have enabled the step-changes that have allowed Moscow to deliver major projects on a short timeline—and how to apply these lessons to other cities and major projects.

The following insights emerged during GII’s Innovation Site Visit in Moscow:

  • Establish a structure for citizen involvement. Major urban infrastructure projects are an extremely visible expenditure of taxpayer funds while also often being large disruptors of daily life. A foundation of citizen support is essential for success and requires a thoughtful engagement program. In Moscow, citizens are encouraged to participate in the planning process by steering major initiatives through the “Active Citizen” application—a portal for online referendums on topics appropriate for democratic decision-making. To date, almost 2 million citizens have cast more than 90 million votes on over 3,000 issues through the platform. The purpose of this structure is to increase the opportunity for citizen engagement and involvement with their city’s major investments.
  • Manage the disruption ‘cost’. Major urban projects cannot be delivered without disrupting daily life. While citizens can be enrolled to accept the disruption as a necessary investment for a better outcome, equal attention needs to be given to managing the disruption ‘cost’ as to managing real expenditures. For example, MyStreets, a project to upgrade and enhance Moscow’s urban environment through reconstruction of streets and building façades, was disruptive to many citizens and commuters. However, through staging and swift execution, the disruption was minimized and the intended lifestyle improvements were quickly delivered to Muscovites and tourists who traverse newly styled pedestrian streets every day.
  • Invest in technology to optimize sequencing. Moscow’s cohesive vision for urban transformation has allowed early investments in technology to assist future delivery. One of the first projects completed was the centrally-controlled traffic management system which can monitor traffic conditions and urban movement through more than 2,000 traffic cameras and 160,000 CCTV cameras installed across the city. Data collected on current conditions, and knowledge of planned activities, allows real-time rerouting of traffic through the city’s dynamic signage. It also allowed identification and analysis of permanent traffic flow changes that could further ease disruptions like those created by the major construction projects.

  • Maximize utility of brownfield sites. A key reason the Moscow Central Circle (MCC), a new light-rail system integrated into the Moscow Metro, was completed in a record four-year period was the repurposing of existing brownfield networks which allowed the installation of modern technology on existing rail transport routes.
