Research Points

Game economy

Gaining RP in War Thunder's economy depends on many factors, but the key ones are: game mode, destroyed vehicle, activity in battle, and the outcome of the battle (victory or defeat). So a player who helped the allies in a battle, performed mission tasks, earned various achievements, and was close to the epicenter of the battle earns, accordingly, more RP than the player who neglected teamwork or the game objective. RP is also earned as a vehicle's modules are unlocked, those earnings go to unlock the selected vehicle.

Distribution

RP earned in battle are distributed to the following funds:

  • Research of the next chosen vehicle of the nation
  • Research of the next modification in the vehicle used in battle
  • Crew experience for the crew slots that were used in battle
  • Convertible research point is given the same, total amount of RP as gained in combat and not deducted or divided from the total

Vehicle Research Points are "experience" that a player can spend on researching locked vehicles. The number of points earned depends on the battle RPs earned and the difference in ranks between the researching vehicle and the vehicle on which the RPs were earned. When researching a vehicle using a vehicle of a different rank, a reduction factor may be applied to the RP obtained ( see table ). In the research of lower-rank vehicles with a higher-ranking premium vehicle, there are no penalties. Using the previous vehicle in the line to research the next vehicle has a bonus of +30% RP gain in Arcade Battles, and a +10% RP gain in Realistic/Simulator Battles.

Modifications Research Points are the "experience" that a player can spend on researching the modifications of the vehicle on which they were earned. The number of modification RPs always coincides with the number of research points earned. Vehicle modifications are divided into four tiers. Some modifications may be researched only after the previous ones. There is also a limitation - several modifications in a tier must be researched first before unlocking the next, higher tier modifications.

  • When all modifications in a tier are unlocked, an amount of vehicle research points is awarded. The award corresponds to 20% of the total RP cost for that tier. For example, if there are 4 modifications of 1,500 RP each, the award is 0.2 x 6,000 = 1,200 RP. While this award is minimal for low-rank vehicles (a few hundred RP), it can be consequential with top-tier vehicles (several thousands of RP). This award is received when each tier is completed (4 tiers in total). Furthermore, the award is not impacted by research efficiency and other multipliers .

Ge icon.png

Crew Experience Points are calculated based on research points for the different battle modes as follows:

  • In Arcade battles - 30 experience points for 1,000 RP
  • In Realistic battles - 11.3 experience points for 1,000 RP
  • In Simulator battles - 9 experience points for 1,000 RP

Multipliers

Each vehicle has RP and game currency multipliers, which can be found in their respective vehicle cards. The higher the multiplier, the more RP and SL the vehicle will earn. Premium vehicles have a multiplier which is doubled (compared to regular vehicles).

In addition to vehicle multipliers, players can take advantage of a wide range of other boosters.

  • Premium account - long-lasting boost which can be purchased with GE.
  • Boosters - in-game items which can be activated before a battle to provide a specified gain.
  • Talisman - a modification for individual vehicles which significantly increases the amount of RP they gain.

Researching high-ranked vehicles while using low-ranked vehicles in battles, and vice versa, will lead to a penalty which is applied to the RP obtained from those battles (see Rank difference research penalties table). High ranked premium vehicles are excluded in that they do not have any research penalty when used to research low-ranked vehicles.

How to Research Fast in War Thunder

How to research fast in War Thunder cover image

War Thunder is undoubtedly one of the most interesting and action-packed MMOs on the market. It has lots of vehicles to unlock and research, and we mean hundreds of them. This is why here’s our guide to how to research fast in War Thunder to unlock and upgrade all your tanks, planes, and boats.

Fast research in War Thunder depends on many different variables.

Research Points in War Thunder

To be able to research quickly, you should know how the game economy works. Almost everything in War Thunder depends on research points. For example, you need RP to research and use crew training, modify all vehicles in the game or unlock new ones.

The amount of research points you earn in War Thunder depends on many variables. If you pay attention to them, you’ll be able to earn more points than other players. So what are they?

  • Number and type of enemy vehicles you have destroyed
  • What you do in battle (Assists, mobility, damage dealt, etc.)
  • Result of the battle (Victory or Defeat)

That sounds very simple when you read it here, doesn’t it? However, considering that all the players in the battle are trying to do this, your task may not be so simple.

Help your allies during the war, complete the mini-missions that the game gives you, and if possible, use your radar to play in the area closest to the heat of the battle. If you do well at this, you’ll have finished a game with a lot of research points. Of course, not everything is limited to these.

There are hundreds of vehicles you can research in War Thunder.

How To Research Fast in War Thunder

After you have earned a lot of RP with the above tactics, it’s time to spend it. We’ll get into all the details in a moment, but first, let’s look at what the categories are. Research points you earn in War Thunder are usually used in four main funds:

  • Vehicle Research Points : As the name implies, you can use it to unlock new vehicles. How many of the points you earn at the end of each battle are transferred to this area depends on several variables.
  • Modifications Research Points : You can use these points to research modifications to vehicles you have already unlocked.
  • Convertible Research Points : This is where the game may be the only P2W stomper. With those research points, you can research any vehicle you want with no restrictions. You’ll need Golden Eagles, the premium currency for that.
  • Crew Experience Points : You can use them to research different battle modes.

These are the four places where you can redeem research points in War Thunder. Your focus should always be on the first two to strengthen your ships and become feared in battles. Especially if you’re a free-to-play player.

Vehicle Research Points

War Thunder is a vehicle war game from start to finish. Remember that and always focus on spending Vehicle Research Points wisely. Because if you don’t spend those points wisely, you may eventually want to reset everything and start over.

At the end of each battle, you’ll receive Vehicle Research Points. However, the amount of these points depends on many variables, such as which vehicle you use in the battles, whether it’s a premium vehicle or not, and where the vehicle your research is in the rankings. The following table will help you understand this:

As you can see in the table, it’s always best to research the next vehicle for fast research in War Thunder. If you research another vehicle that’s a large level difference from your own vehicle, the point cost will be high.

Modifications are very important in War Thunder.

Modifications Research Points

Being successful in War Thunder isn’t only possible by unlocking high-level vehicles. You should also research the modifications for these vehicles. These researches usually help you improve basic abilities such as defense, attack, and movement speed.

You can’t use modification research points at your own discretion. To research higher-level modifications, you must first complete the lower-level ones. There are three types of modifications for each kind of vehicle:

  • Planes: Flight Performance – Survivability – Weaponry
  • Helicopters: Flight Performance – Survivability – Weaponry
  • Ground Forces: Mobility – Protection – Firepower
  • Naval Forces: Seakeeping – Unsinkability – Firepower

There are dozens of different modifications in each of these categories. So if you want to use your limited research points wisely, focus on one type of vehicle category and start developing it.

You can speed up your research by using Golden Eagles or a premium account.

Convertible Research Points

If the research points you get at the end of the battle aren’t enough, you can use these points. However, to use Convertible Research Points, you must spend the game currency Golden Eagles (GE). GE, which you can buy for real money, gives you a more comfortable research budget.

When you spend 1 Golden Eagle, you can convert 45 of these points into regular research points. CRPs, which you get at the end of each battle, don’t affect free-to-play players. But if you want to spend some real money, this resource will be a great help.

Crew Experience Points

With these points, you can improve your crews which will help you the most in the battles. The amount of these points you get at the end of each battle depends on which game mode you play and how many RP you earn in those battles.

Simulation game mode – 9 CE points for 1000 RP Realistic game mode – 11.3 CE points for 1000 RP Arcade game mode – 30 CE points for 1000 RP

So if you want to focus on improving your crews, you should give preference to Arcade mode. Other than that, there are other ways to increase the research points you earn. Almost all of them are boosters that you get through in-game purchases.

To get a bunch of research points you need to master the art of combat on the sea, ground, and in the air. And we have a few guides here to help you:

Convertible Research Points

  • View history

With the apropos acronym CRP (pronounced c-r-p), convertible research points are the totally CRP "points" that you get for playing hour upon hour of War Thunder. They have virtually no value as far as can be ascertained, except to insult dedicated players by giving them a shiny bauble to have as an illusory "reward" for playing. Like a pink balloon or brownie button. If one tries to use said CRP points, one ends up paying more in real money "Golden Eagles" than one would have spent by actually purchasing an elite vehicle of similar class from the online store. Please add your thoughts as to why CRP exist (or should they), and provide input and suggestions to the makers of War Thunder (Gaijin Entertainment http://gaijinent.com ) as to how they can actually change the CRP system to be one that ACTUALLY rewards players AND makes them money. How many CRP points do you have (this player has 3.5 MILLION)? Do YOU use them? Please, give a CRP, and let us know!

Change of research points

I recently noticed that the number of research points obtained after a game has lowered significantly. After a game with say 4 kills it would result in abt 1000 rp or more - now it´s barely abt 400. Is there something new to the game or is it related to the fact that I added the 4.0 Dicker Max to a preset with 4.3 Sturer Emil and 5.0 VK 3002 instead of the Panzer IV/70? But I´m quite convinced that even with Dicker Max included the research points used to get way higher than now for a while. This way it will take forever to research new vehicles - even slower than I used to be.

Any help solving this mystery is appreciated - cheers!

After I did the recent update I saw they wrote something about changes to research points, but didn’t read it… I think you can find the changelog somewhere and see what they said.

Also… make sure you’re not exceeding your ‘max research efficiency’ … If you’re playing level 2-3 vehicles and are researching a higher level vehicle, you won’t get ‘full credit’…

You’re likely researching a tank that is 2 Ranks above the tank you’re playing.

image

Thanks - sounds like I´m playing too low compared to the vehicle I´m researching!

Where did you find this info? Can´t seem to find it.
