Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on 25th December 1924 in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh. His father Pandit Krishna Bihari Vajpayee was a poet and schoolmaster. His grandfather Pandit Shyamlal Vajpayee was a well-known Sanskrit scholar. His family was very simple.

While stepping into the electoral fray for the first time in 1955, he had to face defeat in the by-election of the seat vacated by Vijayalakshmi Pandit. Elected to the Lok Sabha for the seventh time in 1957, 1967, 1971, 1977, 1980, 1991, 1996 and 1998. In 1962 and 1986, he was nominated as a member of the Rajya Sabha. He was the foreign minister during the Janata Party rule from 1977 to 1979. He was also the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party from 1980 to 1986. As foreign minister, he drew the attention of member nations towards disarmament, apartheid policy, etc. In 1999 AD, Vajpayee ji called N. D. A. (National Democratic Alliance) led a new coalition government.

On 19th April 1998, the President of India, K.R. Narayan administered the oath of office to him as the Prime Minister. He was the Prime Minister of India till 21 May 2004. When he was the Prime Minister, India witnessed a lot of progress in many fields. Five nuclear tests were conducted in Pokhran. Delhi-Lahore bus service started between India and Pakistan. अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी का जन्म मध्य प्रदेश के शिंदे कैंट में 25 दिसंबर, 1 9 24 को हुआ था। उनके पिता का नाम कृष्णा बिहारी वाजपेयी था। उनके दादा पंडित श्याम लाल वाजपेयी एक प्रसिद्ध संस्कृत विद्वान थे। अटलजी की प्रारंभिक शिक्षा स्थानीय स्कूल में हुई थी। बाद में उन्होंने ग्वालियर में विक्टोरिया कॉलेज से स्नातक की उपाधि प्राप्त की। उसके बाद उन्होंने डीएवी से प्रथम श्रेणी में राजनीति विज्ञान में स्नातकोत्तर डिग्री उत्तीर्ण की। कॉलेज, कानपुर। इसके बाद, उन्होंने कानून के अध्ययन के लिए सार्वभौमिक में भर्ती कराया। जबकि अटलजी सिर्फ एक छात्र थे, उन्होंने खुद को राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ (आरएसएस) से गठबंधन किया और बाद में इसका “प्रचारक” बन गया। वह ‘जनसंघ’ के संस्थापक सदस्य हैं, फिर आरएसएस द्वारा स्थापित राजनीतिक दल देश की राजनीति में प्रवेश करने के बाद, वह कदम से कदम चढ़ गए और अब वह भारतीय राजनीति के निर्दोष राजनेता राजनेता हैं। उन्होंने ‘भारत छोड़ो’ आंदोलन में भी हिस्सा लिया और 24 दिनों तक जेल गए। उन्होंने पत्रकारिता के क्षेत्र में विशेषज्ञता प्राप्त की और प्रसिद्धि प्राप्त की। अटलजी ने कई किताबें लिखीं। अटलजी एक कुशल वक्ता है। बोलने का उनका तरीका बहुत कम है। 6 अप्रैल, 1 9 80 को उन्होंने बीजेपी के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष की पद प्राप्त की। 16 मई, 1 99 6 को अटलजी ने देश के 10 वें प्रधान मंत्री के रूप में शपथ ली थी। लेकिन इस बार उन्हें कम संख्या के कारण इस्तीफा देना पड़ा। 1 9 मार्च, 1 99 8 को उन्हें देश के प्रधान मंत्री के रूप में फिर से शपथ ली गई। 13 अक्टूबर, 1 999 को अटलजी को तीसरे बार प्रधान मंत्री के रूप में शपथ ली गई थी। अटलजी न केवल एक राजनेता बल्कि एक मान्यता प्राप्त लेखक और व्यक्ति भी हैं। उनकी खुली प्रकृति उन्हें महान बनाती है। वह भारत के पहले प्रधान मंत्री हैं जो देश के गैर विवादास्पद दिल-थ्रोब के रूप में सम्मानित हैं। आज अटलजी राजनीति के उच्चतम स्थान पर पहुंच गए हैं, जहां व्यक्ति को किसी भी राजनीतिक दल की स्टिकर की आवश्यकता नहीं है। लेकिन उनकी निकटता किसी भी पार्टी या व्यक्ति के लिए गर्व का विषय है।

प्रधानमन्त्री श्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी देश के एकमात्र ऐसे नेता हैं, जो अपनी पार्टी में ही नहीं, विपक्षी पार्टी में समान रूप से सम्माननीय रहे हैं । उदार, विवेकशील, निडर, सरल-सहज, राजनेता के रूप में जहां इनकी छवि अत्यन्त लोकप्रिय रही है, वहीं एक ओजस्वी वक्ता, कवि की संवेदनाओं से भरपूर इनका भाबुक हृदय, भारतीय सांस्कृतिक मूल्यों के प्रति आस्थावान इनका व्यक्तित्व सभी को प्रभावित कर जाता है । ये देश के सफल प्रधानमन्त्रियों में से एक हैं । इनकी विलक्षण वाकपटुता को देखकर लोकनायक जयप्रकाश नारायण ने यह कहा कि- ”इनके कण्ठ में सरस्वती का वास है ।” तो नेहरूजी ने इन्हें ”अद्‌भुत वक्ता की विश्वविख्यात छवि से नवाजा ।” 2. जन्म व शिक्षा: श्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी का जन्म 25 दिसम्बर 1924 को मध्यप्रदेश के ग्वालियर जिले में हुआ था । इनके पिता पण्डित कृष्णबिहारी वाजपेयी एक स्कूल शिक्षक थे और दादा पण्डित श्यामलाल वाजपेयी संस्कृत के जाने-माने विद्वान् थे । वाजपेयीजी की प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा भिंड तथा ग्वालियर में हुई । विक्टोरिया कॉलेज (वर्तमान महारानी लक्ष्मीबाई कला एवं वाणिज्य विश्वविद्यालय) से स्नातक की उपाधि ग्रहण की । राजनीति शास्त्र में एम०ए० करने हेतु ये डी०ए०वी० कॉलेज कानपुर चले आये । कानून की पढ़ाई करते-करते अधूरी छोड़कर राजनीति में सक्रिय हो गये । ये अपने प्रारम्भिक जीवन में छात्र नेता के साथ-साथ राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के सक्रिय एवं समर्पित कार्यकर्ता रहे हैं । राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक के रूप में लखनऊ में इन्होंने राष्ट्रधर्म एवं पांचजन्य नामक पत्रिका का सम्पादन किया । इसी तरह वाराणसी से प्रकाशित वीर चेतना साप्ताहिक, लखनऊ से प्रकाशित दैनिक स्वदेश और दिल्ली से प्रकाशित वीर अर्जुन का भी सम्पादन किया । श्री वाजपेयीजी की लेखन क्षमता, भाषण कला को देखकर श्यामाप्रसाद मुखर्जी और दीनदयाल उपाध्याय जैसे नेताओं का ध्यान इनकी ओर गया । 1953 में अटलजी को जनसंघ के प्रथम अध्यक्ष डॉ० श्यामाप्रसाद मुखर्जी का निजी सचिव नियुक्त किया गया । साथ में जनसंघ का सचिव भी बनाया गया । 1955 में पहली बार चुनाव मैदान में कदम रखते हुए विजयलक्ष्मी पण्डित की खाली की गयी सीट के उपचुनाव में इन्हें पराजय का मुंह देखना पड़ा । 1957, 1967, 1971, 1977, 1980, 1991, 1996 और 1998 में सातवीं बार लोकसभा के सदस्य निर्वाचित हुए । 1962 और 1986 में ये राज्यसभा के सदस्य मनोनीत हुए । 1977 से 1979 तक जनता पार्टी के शासनकाल में ये विदेश मन्त्री रहे । सन् 1980 से 1986 तक भारतीय जनता पार्टी के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष भी रहे । विदेश मन्त्री के रूप में इन्होंने निःशस्त्रीकरण, रंगभेद नीति आदि की ओर सदस्य राष्ट्रों का ध्यान आकर्षित किया ।

अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी’ का जन्म 25 दिसंबर 1924 ई० को भारत के मध्य प्रदेश राज्य में स्थित ग्वालियर के शिंदे की छावनी में हुआ था। इनके पिता श्री कृष्ण बिहारी वाजपेयी ग्वालियर में ही अध्यापन कार्य करते थे। अटलजी के दादा पं० श्याम लाल बिहारी वाजपेयी जाने-माने संस्कृत के विद्वान थे। अटलजी की आरंभिक शिक्षा स्थानीय विद्यालय में हुई। तत्पश्चात ग्वालियर में ही विक्टोरिया कॉलेज से स्नातक की उपाधि प्राप्त की। इसके पश्चात कानपुर के डी० ए० वी० कॉलेज से राजनीति शास्त्र में प्रथम श्रेणी में स्नातकोत्तर की उपाधि अर्जित की। इसके पश्चात कानून की पढ़ाई करने के लिए विश्वविद्यालय में प्रवेश लिया। अटलजी अपने प्रारंभिक जीवन में ही राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के सम्पर्क में आ गए थे। 1942 के ‘भारत छोड़ो’ आन्दोलन में इन्होने भी भाग लिया और 24 दिन तक कारावास में रहे। इन्होने पत्रकारिता के क्षेत्र में विशिष्ट ख्याति प्राप्त की। अटलजी ने अनेक पुस्तकों की रचना की। अटलजी एक कुशल वक्ता हैं। उनके बोलने का ढंग बिलकुल निराला है। पत्रकारिता से अटलजी ने राजनीति में प्रवेश किया। 6 अप्रैल 1980 ई० में उनको भारतीय जनता पार्टी के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष के पद पर आसीन किया गया। 16 मई 1996 को अटलजी ने देश के 10वें प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में शपथ ली। किन्तु इस बार इनको संख्या बल के आगे त्याग-पत्र देना पड़ा। 19 मार्च 1998 को पुनः अटलजी को देश के प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में शपथ दिलाई गई। 13 अक्टूबर 1999 को अटलजी ने तीसरी बार प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में शपथ ली। अटलजी मात्र राजनेता ही नहीं अपितु सर्वमान्य व्यक्ति एवं साहित्यकार भी हैं। उनका चिरप्रसन्न एवं मुक्त स्वभाव उनको महान बना देता है। आज अटलजी राजनीति के उस सर्वोच्च स्थान पर पहुँच चुके हैं जहाँ व्यक्ति को किसी भी राजनीतिक पक्ष की जरूरत नहीं पड़ती। अपितु उनका सान्निध्य ही किसी भी पक्ष अथवा व्यक्ति के लिए गौरव की बात होती है।

His father’s name was Krishna Bihari Vajpayee.His grandfather Pandit Shyam Lal Vajpayee was an eminent Sanskrit scholar. Atalji’s early education took place in the local school. Later he graduated from Victoria College in Gwalior. Thereafter he passed the masters degree in political science in the first class from D.A.V. College, Kanpur. Thereafter, he admitted to the universaty for studies of Law. While Atalji was just a student, he aligned himself to the Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (R.S.S.) and later become its “Pracharak”. He is the founder member of the ‘Jansangh” then political party founded by R.S.S. After entering the politics of the country, he climbed up step by step and now he is the spotless meticulous statesman of the Indian politics. He also took part in ‘Quit India’ movement and went to jail for 24 days. He specialized in the field of journalism and gained fame. Atalji wrote several books. Atalji is a skilled speaker. His manner of speaking is very infrequent. On April 6, 1980 he gained the position of national president of B.J.P. On May 16, 1996 Atalji was sworn in as the country’s 10th Prime Minister. But this time he has to resign due to less numbers. On March 19, 1998 he was re-sworn in as Prime Minister of the country. On October 13, 1999 Atalji was sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time. Atalji is not only a politician but also a recognized writer and person. His open nature makes him great. He is the first Prime Minister of India who is regard as non-controversial heart-throb of the country. Today Atalji has reached at the highest place of politics, where the person does not need any political party sticker. But his proximity is a matter of pride for any party or person.
