Many employers now require a writing sample, or job application essay , to accompany all applications or résumés — even if writing is not a significant part of the position. The goal of the job application essay is to ensure that applicants have the right communication skills for the position offered. Sometimes, potential employers will provide a specific topic or series of questions for your essay to respond to. However, you may also be asked to provide an essay with no guidance whatsoever. Either way, approach the essay seriously so that it highlights the skills and assets you could bring to the company. [1] X Research source

Outlining Your Essay

Step 1 Read the job listing and essay description carefully.

  • If you don't know much about the company, do a little research on it before you start writing. You might look at their website or do a general internet search with the name of the company to see if any news articles or other reports come up. Go beyond the four corners of the job listing so that you understand who will likely be reading your essay.
  • If there's anything in the job listing or essay requirements that you don't understand, contact the employer and ask about them. Employers are often impressed by applicants who clarify the employer's intent rather than making assumptions.

Step 2 State your theme or thesis statement upfront.

  • For example, if you're applying for a position in sales, you might want to write an essay about your ability to tailor your pitch to specific clients and close the deal. If you have the ability to be more creative, you might tailor your essay to "sell" yourself directly to the employer.

Step 3 Brainstorm 3 or 4 points that support your thesis statement.

  • For each of your points, think of a specific example you can relate briefly that illustrates the point. For example, if you've described yourself as a "team player," you might include an example of how you came in on your day off to complete some of the more monotonous tasks that no one else wanted to do so a project could be completed ahead of schedule.
  • It's a good idea to have more than one example in your outline for each point, even if you only end up using one. That way, if you start writing something and it ends up not working as well as you thought it would, you'll have a back-up handy.
  • Brainstorming can be difficult. If you find yourself churning over the same thoughts, stand up and take a break for a few minutes. Step outside or go for a walk to clear your head, then come back to it.

Step 4 Gather documents and information to fill out your points.

  • For example, if you want to describe how you increased sales in a specific quarter, you would want to state specifically how much you increased sales. Your former employer may have sales figures that you could ask them for. You might also have that information in your records.
  • Wherever possible, use specific numbers and dates rather than making general statements. It's okay to estimate, but make sure your estimate is conservative. Saying you led your sales team to the highest sales in a quarter is impressive — but only if it's true.

Completing Your Rough Draft

Step 1 Start with an introductory paragraph that describes you and your essay.

  • Think of this paragraph as telling the hiring manager what you're going to tell them in the essay. Outline the points you're going to elaborate on in the essay that back up your theme or thesis statement.
  • Sometimes it's best to go back and write your introduction after you've written the body of your essay. That way, you can make sure the introduction provides an outline that matches the body.

Step 2 Organize your essay logically.

  • If the employer listed specifically what should be included in your essay, follow their order, since that's what they'll be looking for when they read the essay.
  • Write in the first person and make yourself the star of any anecdote you include as an example. Use action verbs to focus on what you did rather than focusing on what happened and how you reacted to it. [7] X Trustworthy Source University of North Carolina Writing Center UNC's on-campus and online instructional service that provides assistance to students, faculty, and others during the writing process Go to source

Step 3 Create transitions between each paragraph of your essay.

  • For example, if you're writing about your skills as a team player, you might note that you discuss doing routine work that others found monotonous so they had time to work on other parts of a project. You could use that detail to move on to a section describing how you're detail-oriented.

Step 4 Use your closing to summarize your essay.

  • For example, you might write "My business school education, skills as a team player, and focus on detail make me the best candidate to lead your sales team."

Finalizing Your Essay

Step 1 Proofread your essay for spelling, grammar, and typographical errors.

  • For example, you might start by looking solely at punctuation, then read through again focusing on spelling.
  • If you find that you tend to repeat a particular error, go through your essay looking for that error specifically.
  • If your grammar isn't particularly strong or you're writing in a language other than your native language, have someone else read over your essay as well.

Step 2 Read your essay out loud.

  • If you find that you stumble over a sentence while reading aloud, that's a sign that your writing could be clearer. Work with your text until you have something that you can read aloud with ease.

Step 3 Edit

  • If the prospective employer did not specify a length, try to keep your essay under 2 double-spaced pages. Remember that hiring managers are busy and don't have a lot of time to read a long, rambling essay.
  • Eliminate all unnecessary words or sentences that aren't relevant to the subject of your essay. The majority of your sentences should be short, declarative sentences with action verbs.
  • Apps such as Hemingway ( http://www.hemingwayapp.com/ ) or Grammarly ( https://app.grammarly.com/ ) can help you identify portions of your essay that are more difficult to read. Both of these apps have a free version that you can use to edit your text.

Step 4 Work backward through your essay to proofread a second time.

  • Working backward is particularly helpful for noticing spelling mistakes, especially hard-to-catch homophone errors, because you're seeing the word out of context.

Step 5 Print your essay and read through it a final time.

  • It may also help to print your essay in a different font or font size than what you used to type it. This breaks your brain's familiarity with the text, which can make typos and other errors more noticeable. Just remember to change the font back after you print it.

Expert Q&A

Shannon O'Brien, MA, EdM

  • Give yourself plenty of time to work on your essay. Ideally, you should plan to work on it over the course of at least two days, so you have the time to set it aside after writing before you move to the editing and proofreading stage. [15] X Research source Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0

Job application essays can seem scary, but they’re really just an opportunity for you to highlight your skills and explain why you’re suitable for the role. Read the job listing to find out what traits and skills the company is looking for, like time management, working under pressure, and leadership. Use real life examples from previous jobs, your recent studies, or extracurricular activities to support your points. My Dream Job Essay

Everyone aspires to be a successful person when they grow up. Since we were young, we have had goals to accomplish great things. There are many professions to choose from , however, a dream job is a specific career that we aspire to follow. Here are a few sample essays on "my dream job".

100 Words Essay On My Dream Job

My dream job is to become a police officer. Since I was a little child, my uncle, a police officer, has encouraged me to protect the streets near our house. I believe that certain traits are essential for all officers to possess. Police officers must be conscientious, dependable, and able to assume leadership roles. Being a successful officer would not be feasible without these qualities.

My Dream Job Essay

I have already taken and passed the required written tests to become a police officer. Additionally, I underwent physical examinations, which evaluated my stamina, vision, hearing, and agility. High school ROTC participation has aided my development of extra practice and discipline. After completing high school, I spent four to five months at a police academy honing my skills by performing criminal investigations and learning about my rights and local, state, and federal laws.

200 Words Essay On My Dream Job

My dream is to become a teacher. I've always wanted my life to make a difference. I cherish sharing my knowledge and instructing young people. Finally, I came to the realisation that it is my passion. Some people aspire to work as college professors or university instructors, but I would like to teach at a public school. I intend to devote the remainder of my life to teaching young children and students and I'm making a lot of effort to make my dream come true.

Reason I Chose Teaching

I picked teaching as my dream career for a variety of reasons. I enjoy teaching, which is why I started it first. I know that working as a teacher will allow me to lead a very dedicated life where I will be able to make a genuine difference in people’s lives. Another important factor is that I want to bring a change in our educational system. I wish to improve several problems in our educational system.

Although it won't be simple, that is what I want to achieve in life. To ensure that school is enjoyable for kids rather than a chore, I want to modify the existing system of teaching.

500 Words Essay On My Dream Job

A career that combines activity, talent or passion with a chance to make money is referred to as a dream job. A dream job could be in the performing arts, law, medicine, acting, or any other vocation. Having a dream job offers us the drive to take actions that will help us realise our goals.

A dream can inspire you to pursue your goals, as lacking motivation is akin to lacking the desire or inspiration to do so. Setting the correct path is the first step toward achieving your goals. If the appropriate objectives are defined, one can undoubtedly realise their ambition.

Setting a goal is similar to making a strategy for each step and taking it one at a time. The key to achieving success in life is to have a clear goal in mind. Even though sometimes, not all of your dreams may come true, you should continue to have plans and keep working on achieving them.

My Dream Job : Doctor

My childhood dream has always been to become a doctor. I know the suffering of those who live in poverty and sometimes pass away due to lack of access to expensive medical care. There is no more extraordinary service than providing healthcare to the sick and poor people who suffer greatly in the absence of modern healthcare facilities. After hearing and witnessing some unfortunate incidents of people losing their lives simply because of their financial status motivated me to choose the medical profession. I made the decision to go into medicine and help people.

I'm keenly interested in learning about subjects relating to the human body. I've always been fascinated by how doctors comprehend the illness and successfully treat patients. Biology is my all-time favourite subject. Even though pursuing a profession in medicine is not simple, I'll work tirelessly to finish my studies and acquire my dream position one day.

I intend to help the underprivileged residents of my community once I have earned my medical degree. Numerous fatal diseases affect the poor, and they are unable to pay for better care. I would schedule a few days every month to provide treatment for all the needy people for free or at a minimal fee in an effort to help them receive medical attention that they need and deserve.

The profession of a doctor has the greatest respect. My goal in life is to become a doctor so that I can help others who cannot afford expensive medical care. I would help many people and their families by becoming a doctor. The joy and inner calm that come from rescuing lives transcends all other emotions.

People claim that the only other being capable of miracles after God is a doctor. Being a doctor is a lifetime achievement. By providing patients with medical care and treatment, a doctor relieves other people's pain and suffering. People who practise medicine bring joy to a lot of patients and their families. Not only is becoming a doctor a fantastic job choice, but it also brings inner satisfaction and fulfilment.

How To Say “I Love My Job!” in 9 Steps

“I love my job!” Don’t we all dream of saying these words regularly?

In the last two years, tens of millions of workers took a leap of faith and left their existing jobs in what’s become known as the “Great Resignation”. In 2023 alone, almost 96% of workers were planning a career change. The lockdowns  gave people a chance to reevaluate their lives and look for their dream career. The ultimate goal, of course, is to find a role with the most merits possible alongside the fewest faults. In other words: the dream job!

If your current position isn’t living up to your expectations, it’s time to start asking whether you can make some changes .

Don’t let years pass you by waiting around in a position that’s merely “ fine” . You deserve to work in a job you find stimulating and enjoyable.

Use the clickable menu to navigate through the article more easily:

Why I love my job: an easy question to answer?

  • Find a purposeful mission
  • Look for a challenge
  • Ensure there’s room for progression
  • Check how impactful the work is
  • Be mindful of your work-life balance
  • Think flexible
  • Ask for a fair salary
  • Find a positive work culture
  • Find a leader who sets goals and listens
  • Key takeaways

How can you be sure it’s the right time to switch up your career?

If you’ve been in your current role for a long time, it’s possible that comfort and habit have set in, and it won’t be so easy to tell how satisfied you actually are. If you’re not sure whether you ought to be leveling up your career, a good starting point is to write a list.

Title it something like “Why I love my job”, and write down everything that you enjoy about your daily work life.

Your list should, hopefully, include points such as:

  • I work with supportive colleagues who make me smile
  • I work in an area that interests me and inspires me to learn
  • I believe my work has an impact on the company as a whole
  • The company’s values align with my own
  • I can see a clear path ahead, with room for growth
  • My managers appreciate my efforts and encourage my development
  • My role involves challenges, which I am able to overcome
  • I am respected as an employee, and not treated merely as a number

If you find yourself filling the page easily, you know you’re in a good spot. If, however, you find you’ve run dry after only a couple of bullet points, it’s time to take the next steps toward finding a position you truly love.

9 steps to say “I love my job”

1. find a purposeful mission.

Let’s be honest: you’ll always struggle to love your job if you don’t believe in the work you’re doing — at least to some extent. You don’t have to decorate your car with branded stickers or fly the company flag from the roof of your house, but you should feel that your work has a genuine purpose and that you’re making a change in the world in a way that makes you feel proud.

If you’re not sure yet, try reading our guide to answering that pesky question “What should I do with my life?”

2. Look for a challenge

Everybody enjoys the occasional quiet, easy day — only a couple of new emails, an empty in-tray, and no long meetings. Too many, however, and life gets monotonous. It’s important to feel challenged and tested in your career, as overcoming obstacles is a major part of growth.

There’s nothing like the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction that comes from solving a complex puzzle, and with a career that offers the right level of challenge, you’ll be leaving the office with a smile on your face each day.

3. Ensure there’s room for progression

To feel satisfied in your career, it’s crucial to feel you’re heading somewhere. If opportunities for advancement are zero — no possibility of promotion, no skill-boosting seminars, no training days — then not only will you feel frustrated and stagnant, but the business may soon lose momentum as a whole.

Instead, find somewhere with the space to flourish, a clear route of progression, and open-minded leaders who want to see you advance.

4. Check how impactful the work is

When you’re interviewing for jobs, try to discern from the interviewer how much of an impact your work will have on the business as a whole.

Will you be making meaningful decisions? Or will your work be left unseen in some distant, gloomy corner (metaphorical or otherwise)?

A key factor in job satisfaction is creating impactful work, and directly witnessing the impact of said work. Even something as small as receiving a mention in the monthly company newsletter can make all the difference. Nobody wants to feel like a tiny part of an incomprehensible machine.

5. Be mindful of your work-life balance

It’s easy to get sucked into the mindset of working every spare minute, particularly when you’re new in a role and are determined to make a positive impression.

Too many late nights and early mornings, however, can lead to a lack of sleep, thereby increasing stress , and in turn leading to even less sleep and even more stress.

Yes, there are times in every business when a little extra is required from employees, but a company must respect the work-life balance of its employees, not bury them beneath a mountain of unpaid overtime.

Listen for hints that this might be the case during the interviewing process, and read reviews on sites like Glassdoor to discern whether a company is considerate of its employees’ home lives.

6. Think flexible

The standard nine-to-five is on its way out. If you’re looking to yell “I love my job” from the rooftops, flexible working is a crucial component to look out for during your job search.

This could mean flexible working hours, remote or hybrid working options, or a good amount of paid holiday. All of these benefits give you the option to work in a way that suits you, giving you time to thrive outside and inside the workplace.

It’s mutually beneficial: flexible working attracts top talent, makes employees happier, and has been proven to increase productivity.

7. Ask for a fair salary

If you’ve put years into studying, growing, and honing your abilities, don’t undersell yourself!

Even a fun, fulfilling job can start to feel pointless if the remuneration is far below what you’re worth. While it can definitely sometimes be worth taking a pay cut if it means you’re able to break into an industry you’ve been wanting to, in the long run, fair pay means you’ll be able to work your dream job without the stress of wondering whether bills are getting paid.

And a little security can work wonders for overall happiness.

8. Find a company with a positive work culture

Company culture starts with the CEO and flows down. You’ll be able to sense whether a company has a positive (or not-so-positive) culture early on—sometimes, as early as the interview process.

Is the HR department warm and open to chat, or do they have little interest in pleasantries and putting you at ease? If the latter, it’s probably fair to assume things won’t improve much when you’re hired. So seek better!

A rich company culture can mean many things.

It might mean a creative, inspiring office space. It could mean team-building activities. It might mean yoga classes, skills workshops, or engaging company all-hands meetings once a week. It might simply mean a lot of laughter during the working day.

You’ll know it when you find it—because you’ll feel at home.

9. Find a leader who sets goals and listens

Good management can be a huge factor in career fulfillment. If you’re being micromanaged, given unreachable targets, or if all your ideas are ignored, it’s unlikely you’ll feel like sticking around.

For true job satisfaction and that blissful “I love my job!” feeling, seek out a company where the management sets clear, measurable goals that are challenging yet achievable.

Further, seek out a company where your voice is heard, and your expertise is both listened to and appreciated. This is what good leadership looks like.

How to say “I love my job”: Key takeaways

Consider this list as a series of suggestions, rather than absolute requirements.

We haven’t written them in order of importance—that’s down to you to decide. We’re giving you a rundown on things you should try to consider.

Of course, in reality, everybody’s vision of perfect career happiness looks a little different. You might prefer less flexibility and rigid, tight deadlines to help keep you motivated, or you might like strict hierarchies that give you a concrete sense of where you stand within the company.

You might not want any kind of challenge in your career, you might passionately hate work socials, or your only concern might be finding a job that’s future-proof.

All of that is perfectly fine. Finding your dream job—the one that gets you all excited to go to work in the morning—isn’t about following a set formula as much as it’s about being aware of what’s out there, and what suits you.

Why not begin now? Make a list of your priorities, using this article to help you, and see where it takes you. This could be the moment you’ve been waiting for. If you’re unsure what you might be best suited to, try our free job career quiz .

If you are writing essays about dream jobs, read our essay examples and topic ideas to give you some inspiration.

What are the typical dream jobs that our friends say when we are young? “I want to become a successful actor!” or “I want to be a doctor to help people!” It might be painful to hear these words more often than not, but dreams are just dreams. Some will surely make it, but some will not due to several factors.

We’ve encountered people who shared their stories of determination and perseverance to achieve their goals. Some individuals choose to stop pursuing their dream job for their family or personal reasons. The most heartbreaking ones are those who realize that their dream job is not how they imagined it.

If you are writing an essay about dream jobs, here are 5 essay examples to help you write an insightful piece.

1. The Secret To Happiness At Work by Arthur C. Brooks

2. 10 things i wish i knew before pursuing my dream job by erin sullivan, 3. can a dream job become a nightmare by daisy buchanan, 4. a moment that changed me: i lost my dream job – and found unexpected success by david barnett, 5. even with a dream job, you can be antiwork by farhad manjoo, 6. when you have to quit your dream job to pursue your dream by laura yan, 1. what is your dream job, 2. how to land your dream job, 3. challenges in landing your dream job, 4. what do you want to accomplish in your dream job, 5. social challenges when pursuing your dream job, 6. dream job vs. high-paying job.

“ They find this statistic surprising because, like so many of us, they generally assume that to be satisfied, you must hold your dream job—one where your skills meet your passions, you make good money, and you are excited to get to work each day. No way 89 percent of people have this, right? ”

In his piece published by The Atlantic, Brooks questioned the concept of equivalence between having your dream job and being happy at work. He finds that satisfaction in an occupation boils down to three things – a sense of accomplishment, recognition, and work-life balance. Check out these essays about dreams and sleep .

“ Passion and drive will never fully soften stress or worry. It’s still work, and as a result, it still feels like work. When you do what you love, you’ll work many days in your life– it’ll just be more enjoyable. ”

Professional photographer Erin Sullivan reminds us that having your dream job doesn’t mean that everything will be easy. It will still require an amount of work and dedication. Believe it or not, there will still be challenges you have to overcome to succeed.

“I was still depending on someone else – my manager – to validate me and grant me eternal happiness, just like that perfect grade had been supposed to. Eventually, I quit that coveted role, having recognised that even in our biggest and best dreams, we can feel powerless and unhappy.”

Daisy Buchanan shares two stories – one from personal experience and another from her friend, Lizzie – which relays how being passionate about your dream job can increase being exploited at the office. Thankfully, the essay has a happy ending for both of them, as they can venture out into different roads and find that dreams are about more than work.

“I was devastated, as if a partner I had devoted myself to for more than a quarter of a century had suddenly told me they didn’t love me any more. I felt a crashing sense of impostor syndrome. Had I been fooling myself all these years? Was I not as good as I thought? Had I finally been found out?”

For an award-winning journalist like Barnett, losing his dream job after 26 years in the industry felt like the world’s end. As an unemployed 45-year-old with bills to pay and a family to provide for, the future looked terrifying. However, he was still good at writing, and an opportunity to utilize that came knocking at his door, which gave him a shot to pursue his dream job once again.

“It’s just that I now have space in my mind for a truth that my pre-pandemic workaholism never allowed me to consider — that even a dream job is still a job, and in America’s relentless hustle culture, we have turned our jobs into prisons for our minds and souls. It’s time to break free.”

Written in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, this New York Times opinion essay by Manjoo tackled how the pandemic transformed the American workforce’s way of thinking when it comes to jobs. Suddenly, a new opportunity for workers to get better compensation is at hand, and they quickly realize that there’s more to life than toiling day and night at work.

“Anger wouldn’t work, but silence wouldn’t, either. I thought about what I always valued: being honest, true to myself, my values. Speaking up even when it was hard. I was a bold and ambitious journalist, but in this office, that part of me had gone silent. I couldn’t let it be silent anymore.”

Everything was going well for Yan. She got her dream job with great pay, which allowed her to get a nice residence in New York and buy furniture for the first time. Everything clicked until it didn’t. In this piece, Yan chronicled how her seemingly perfect career turned into a nightmare and how she managed to cope after leaving it all behind.

Additionally, try to weigh the efficacy of joining a study group or studying alone.

If there are any, go through the time when you encountered pressure from family or peers and share a lesson or two on how to control those moments of hesitation.

Consider writing an argumentative essay based on this dilemma. For example, try to talk to people who have chosen passion over money and vice-versa and dive into their level of contentment. Were they happy with the choice they made? Were there moments of regret, and would you have chosen differently? By the end, assess your situation and decide where you’ll stand if you were given this option.

Why Are You the Best Person for This Job? (Example Answers Included)

i am in job essay

By Mike Simpson

Why are you the best person for this job? It’s a dastardly interview question that can be surprisingly hard to nail. After all, you don’t want to come across like a braggart, but you do want to showcase why you’re awesome. That’s a fine line to tread.

So, how do you tackle this tightrope walk of a question? Well, we’re about to show you. Come with us as we explore the tricky job interview question, “Why are you the best person for this job?”

What Is the Meaning of “Best Person?”

Alright, before we dig into example answers for this question, let’s pause a second and talk about something important: What does “best person” mean anyway?

In the absolute simplest sense, the “best person” for the job is an individual who can not just handle the duties associated with the role but exceed expectations while taking care of them. Usually, this means having a strong skillset along with a solid amount of confidence in what you can do or what you can learn along the way.

Now, it is important to note that this question can come in another form, the classic, “Why are you the best candidate for this position?” In this case, “best candidate” and “best person” really mean the same thing.

Why Does the Hiring Manager Ask This Question?

So, why on Earth would the hiring manager ask this question? And is this question really all that different from “ Why should we hire you? ” and “ Why are you a good fit for this job? ” Yes, yes, it is.

Hiring managers ask this interview question for two main reasons. First, they want to learn more about you, preferably discovering that you bring something amazing and unique to the table. Second, it also lets them gauge your confidence.

Yeah, you are going to address “fit” in your answer here. And, yes, you’re sharing reasons that showcase why they should hire you. But you’re also digging deeper.

You’re giving them crucial insights about how you, as an individual, stand out, as well as your confidence in your capabilities. It’s partly about unique accomplishments and attributes, but it also involves how you feel about what you’ve achieved and what you think you can pull off in the future if you were hired for the position.

Common Mistakes When Answering This Question

One of the biggest mistakes you can make when answer “Why are you the best person for this job?” is being conceited, pompous, or egotistical. For 84 percent of hiring managers, culture fit is a main consideration when choosing a candidate. If you come across as aggressively arrogant, that probably won’t match the company’s or team’s vibe. And what does that mean? That you can kiss the job goodbye.

In many cases, confidence doesn’t require boastfulness. Yes, you can toot your own horn a bit (and you actually should). But you also need to add a hint of humbleness.

However, it can be just as problematic if you hedge. A lack of confidence in your capabilities is a killer. For example, using a phrase like “I guess” or filling your response with “maybes” is going to come across as unsure. Similarly, using “we” instead of “I” makes it seem like the team you were with are accomplished but that you weren’t a significant factor in its success.

Also remember, this is just one question the hiring manager could ask you in your interview! That’s why we created an amazing free cheat sheet that will give you word-for-word answers for some of the toughest interview questions you are going to face in your upcoming interview.

Tips for Answering This Question

Okay, we know you’re chomping at the bit for some example answers for “Why are you the best person for the job,” and we promise those are coming. Before we get there, how about some helpful tips that can make crafting your own answer as easy as pie?

These three tips are designed to make creating your response as simple as possible. They keep you focused on what matters, giving you a framework for creating compelling replies.

So, with that in mind, here are three awesome tips for this question…

1. Do a Ton of Research

As with all interview questions, research is your ally. If all you do is review the job description, you’re missing a critical part of the equation.

In the end, 59 percent of job seekers head to the company’s website after they find an intriguing opening. If you aren’t taking that trip, too, you’re already behind those candidates. That’s no good.

So, make use of every resource. Review the company’s website, especially its mission and value statements, and take a trip to its social media pages. Find the hiring manager on LinkedIn and, if their profile is public, learn a bit about who they are as a professional.

Yes, it can be a little time-consuming. But it pays off.

2. Choose Quantifiable Accomplishments

In the end, the proof is in the pudding. Since you can’t directly show the hiring manager that you’re amazing during the interview, you have to do the next best thing. And what is that? It’s sharing quantified examples.

During an interview, numbers can speak louder than words. Think about it this way; what sounds more compelling, “In my last position, I boosted sales significantly in a short time” or “In my last position, I boost sales by 25 percent in just two months.” The second one, right?

Numbers are powerful. When you choose accomplishments, select ones that let you share some stellar metrics. After all, you’re trying to say that you’re legitimately the best person for this role, and numbers can help you do that.

3. Add a Unique Twist

If you want to look like the best candidate for the job, it’s important to set yourself apart from the pack. Usually, the simplest way to do that is to showcase a unique skill or trait that you bring to the table that can help you excel in the position.

Typically, you’ll need to look beyond the required skills and traits for a role, looking for something a bit unconventional that can help you excel. Exactly what they will be depends on you, just don’t be afraid to think outside of the box to find it.

For example, if you were a user interface designer who also painted, your painting experience may be that unique thing. Usually, painters learn a lot about color theory and or have strong color acuity, and that may give you unique insights into how to design user interfaces that set the right mood.

How to Answer the Interview Question “Why Are You the Best Person for This Job?”

Alright, now it’s time for the nitty-gritty on how to answer “Why are you the best candidate for this position?” So, where should you begin? Well, with the right strategy, of course.

First, do that research. Check out the job description, review the company’s website and social media pages, and learn everything you can about what the hiring manager genuinely needs, both from a technical and cultural standpoint.

Next, take that information and choose quantifiable achievements that show you are the right person for the job. Tap on your technical prowess, valuable traits, and culture fit.

After that, it’s time to create highly targeted answers that speak directly to the hiring manager. That’s where the Tailoring Method comes into play. It’s all about customizing a response for epic alignment. That way, your value proposition gets even stronger.

Alright, ready to see how all of that can come together? Great. Here are three example responses to “Why are you the best person for this job,” with each one covering a different job field and career level.

1. Mid-Career Sales

Sales is always about numbers. However, the customer experience is increasingly at the forefront, particularly for companies that want to differentiate themselves from the pack.

Here is an example answer for an interview at a customer-centric company that’s still looking for growth.

EXAMPLE ANSWER:

“In the job description, I noticed an emphasis on both sales growth and customer retention. In my last position, I spearheaded a process improvement with those precise objectives in mind. While improving sales and retention was our goal, I didn’t want to go with aggressive hard sales tactics. Like your company mentions in its mission statement, being customer-centric is a priority. We want to be a legitimate resource, one that customers can turn to with ease and without concern about pressure. It’s a value I personally hold and is part of what attracted me to this position. By keeping my values at heart as I reworked the process, not only was I able to increase sales by 10 percent during the first 30 days and a total of 22 percent during the first 90 days, but I was also able to boost customer retention by 12 percent. In total, this led to a 16 percent boost in revenue, all while enhancing customer satisfaction and bolstering the brand.”

2. Entry-Level Customer Service

With an entry-level job, you may not have many numbers in your background to add to your answer, and that’s okay. That doesn’t mean you can’t make a great connection and showcase yourself as the best person for the role. You just need to use a slightly different approach, along with different numbers.

“The reason I’m the best person for this job is two-fold. First, this is one of my favorite brands. I’ve personally been a customer for over four years, and I have a solid understanding of what your company offers, as well as the quality of the customer experience. Second, I’m passionate about helping people. During my time in school, I launched an afterschool tutoring program to help students improve their understanding of various subjects. Along with coordinating the tutoring sessions, I also tutored 20 students in total. I feel that tutoring and customer service can be a lot alike, as you take complex ideas and help people with them. Together, I think that makes me the best candidate for the position.”

3. Technology Manager

For management positions, the focus usually needs to be on leadership. However, it doesn’t hurt to discuss a little about your subject-matter expertise, showing that you have a solid understanding of the work the department handles and what the employees you supervise do.

“I believe I’m the best person for the job for several reasons. First, this position involves overseeing the networking department. Not only do I have a degree in networking and telecommunications, but I also have four certifications, including in network security and administration. Second, I reached the management ranks by working up from an entry-level networking role. During my 12-year career, I’ve spent time as an individual contributor, project manager, and team lead. I understand the daily grind of the positions I would supervise, as I’ve personally experienced it. As a team lead, I oversaw the work of three networking professionals. While working as a project manager, I coordinated the efforts of a cross-departmental team of nine highly skilled professionals, ensuring the project remained on course and on budget. In fact, we were able to complete a major implementation one week early, all without budget overages. Finally, I believe I’m the best candidate because I am a tech geek at heart. Technology is amazing, and I will always be fascinated by how it can improve the lives of everyone when leveraged well.”

Putting It All Together

At this point, there’s a good chance you can answer “Why are you the best person for this job” with ease. Take advantage of everything above. That way, you can create a compelling answer that shows why you are really and truly the best around.

What Kind of Job I Like the Most?

There is a lot to learn in this world but really not possible for us to learn everything, but you can experience it. Think about a job where you could be allowed to do whatever you like, it will definitely be the best one and you will also perform well. Similarly, I love learning and exploring new things and I work as a writing professional.

This profession helps me to learn different things by being at the same place. It helps me to research a particular topic that makes it one of the best. If I would be an engineer or doctor I would defiantly never justify the job, because they have a very busy schedule and although they would love exploring, due to lack of time it would be never so easy for them to learn various aspects of life.

How Interesting is My Profession?

I know I can’t force someone to like a particular profession but I can carve the beauty and show you the best part of my profession. The way a musician feels thrilled when he moves his hands on his favorite instrument is the same way I feel the enthusiasm when I learn something new and frame those feelings in words.

I would like to quote a famous line ‘The pen is mightier than the sword’ by Edward Bulwer-Lytton. That means a pen holds more power than a sword because a sword is only used to kill someone and killing is not a solution whereas, a pen holds the power to say, to advocate, to express individuals’ thoughts, and is more powerful than a sword.

The way a moviemaker has an eye on details to make a perfect short, similarly a writer adds a lot of details in this creation to make it decent and popular. It needs research and learning then a book or article becomes interesting.

I daily learn new things at my job, and it is really interesting, suppose I have to write on a wood painting then I have to search all like what it is? Where did it start from? In which part of the world do people perform this art? Etc. and really it helps me to gain more knowledge.

What is the Best Part of My Job?

I feel free to write anything that I feel, I see, and think is correct. I have the freedom to express my views and this is one of the best parts of my profession. Apart from writing for others, you can also enhance your vocabulary and knowledge.

I don’t advocate a particular profession but I am simply justifying the main reasons behind my satisfaction with my job. There are multiple reasons and learning is a never-ending process and my profession encourages me to learn. It enhances my knowledge and although I am not a doctor still I know about various diseases and surgeries. I am not an engineer but I know some engineering terms, just because of my research. I never feel airheaded when I stand between some knowledgeable people discussing something serious either regarding our economy or about a new research program, all because of my job.

Is it Worth being in a Writing Business in the Scientific Age?

Yes, of course, the way a sports person also needs some entertainment similarly either you are a scientist or an advisor you need to write and let people know about it. Although some people feel it is an easy task and anyone can do it, but there is a word called experience and if you are one of those who are writing for the first time, you will find it difficult.

For publishing their work people visit writing professionals to describe their work in an articulated manner. The way all of us know how to make a wall but when professionals do the same they have a different finish and look quite more appealing.

Apart from helping others in their business, nowadays some famous bloggers like Moz, Copyblogger, Smashing Magazine, etc. earn more than simply an engineer or doctor. So, it will be not wrong to say that every profession is best in its own way. Just don’t follow the crowd follow your interest and passion and it will make you definitely successful one day.

Can Money make a Job Interesting?

It sounds quite interesting to some people but frankly speaking ‘No’ because money attracts that is true but it can’t attract you for a long time. When we do something we like and something we are asked to do, there is a difference between both.

Generally, nowadays students focus on some of the tending professions either they like or dislike. They either like to follow the trend or take this decision in family pressure and they also get good money making jobs but they never feel the inner peace and happiness while doing their job, all because of their lack of interest in their job. So, it is advised to concentrate on your interest rather than money and once you know what you are good at and what you love doing, just go for it and trust me no profession is small just have patience because ‘Rome was not built in a day’.

There are multiple reasons for me to love my job and I am happy with it. Whatever profession you belong to just be the best and work hard to polish your skills as much as you can and this will help you everywhere. Don’t ever run behind money run for learning and learning more and more and this will automatically attract money.

Interview questions answered: Why are you interested in this position?

We apply for jobs for a variety of reasons. More often than not, we simply need a job –any decent position, to pay our bills , keep our head above water, and enjoy some little pleasures during the weekends. As you can likely imagine though, this is not exactly what the hiring managers want to hear from you. They want to hear some excitement , enthusiasm for what’s ahead. They want to hear some words of praise on their company and their job offer. And they also hope to hear about your strengths, personality, and preferences, that happens to be a good match for the position in question. That’s why they inquire why you are interested in the job, role, vacancy, position, or whatever they name it.

Let’s have a look at 7 sample answers to the question. I tried to include different examples on my list, for different jobs and interview scenarios . You will find also a few unconventional choices on the list, such a being brutally honest with the interviewers, or looking at the question rather philosophically. Go through the answers, consider each one, find a best match to your attitude , and adjust it to the job you are applying for. Then you can read also my notes below the answers, for additional hints and explanations.

7 sample answers to “Why are you interested in this position?” interview question

  • I just find it an excellent match to my strengths and preferences . I’ve always enjoyed interactions with other people, and home improvement is my great hobby. I know the tools, materials, brands. In my opinion, it is always easier to sell products you like , and know something about, because you can give good recommendations to the customers, and share with them your personal experience with the product . That’s why I am interesting in the position in your retail store, and not in some other sales job in retail.
  • I just see it as a next logical step in my professional career . I’ve been working as a financial analyst for five years now, acquired a lot of experience, and learned the ins and outs of cash flow in the business. I feel that with everything I’ve done and know, I am ready to work as a financial manager , and make something big happen for the company. Obviously the salary is also better , and the benefits, so I see no reason why I would not be interested in the position you advertise.
  • I just need a change . Without a doubt I may look overqualified for the role in a small cafe at the edge of the city center. But I’m interested in this position, because I’ve experienced a burnout, and cannot imagine working in the corporate world any longer. I am looking for a job with low stress levels , and little screen time. A position in which I’ll have real sincere interactions with people , and will be able to express myself. Money is secondary for me really at this point of my career. I hope you will give me a chance to prove my motivation and skills.
  • Who would not want to work for Amazon ? I’ve always dreamed of working for one of the four biggest tech companies, participating on innovation, working on solutions and products billions of people use daily . I think that everyone dreams of having some impact in their life. And this is the impact I would like to have. What is more, I feel that with my engineering experience, and the programming languages I know, I am an excellent fit for the position . Really I see it as a win-win situation for everyone, and hope you will come to the same conclusion by the end of this interview.
  • Being honest, I just need a job to survive . It’s a tough economy out there. You borrow money once, twice, some things do not work out, you have some unexpected expenses , and soon enough debt collectors and executors come to knock on your door. This is my situation at the moment. That’s why I am interested in the vacancy you advertise, though I know it is hard work , long hours, and the pay isn’t that good. But with my situation I cannot really afford to play a waiting game , trying my chances in interviews for jobs I likely won’t get. I need a job now, I am ready to work hard, and that’s why I am interested in this position.
  • Speaking honestly, I’m not interested in this position in a long run . I would like to work in your PR department, because I find it an excellent fit for my personality and expectations. And I also admire the work of your PR director. However, you are not advertising any jobs in PR now, and so I simply want to get my foot into the door , start working for your amazing company, prove my communication and diplomatic skills , and eventually get promoted or relocated to the PR department. Having said that, I do not consider the sales position I am interviewing for right now just as a means to an end . I know that I can learn a lot here, and generate some interesting sales volume each month, contributing to your success. You can definitely benefit from having me onboard. But when everything is said and done, it is your PR department I have my sights on .
  • I am interested in this role for a couple of reasons . First of all, I see a meaningful purpose in social work. And I do not want to work only to make money. I actually want to come home each day, knowing that I did my best to help someone to cope with a difficult life situation. Secondly, I really like your organization , the training program you have in place, the values you try to promote, your marketing activities, and basically everything about your brand. And last but not least, I consider myself a good fit for the job , in terms of education, experience, personality, and expectations…

Do not forget on your non-verbal communication

Doesn’t matter how much you praise their brand, working conditions, salary offer, or anything else that caught your eye on their job offer. Unless they hear enthusiasm in your voice , and unless you look at least somehow “pumped up” in an interview , they won’t trust your words.

Keep it on your mind, and make sure that you tell them the right things both with your tongue and your body . Not it doesn’t mean that you have to jump from your chair after every question. But you should look excited, give them a firm handshake, react positively, ask questions, and so on…

* Special Tip : This isn’t by far the most difficult question you will face while interviewing for any decent job. You will face questions about prioritization, dealing with pressure, dealing with ambiguity , and other tricky scenarios that happen in the workplace. i am in job essay

The more specific you are, the better

Try to mention some details and numbers in your answers. I mean, it is fine saying that you are interested in the position because “it is a good job”. But that won’t satisfy most hiring managers, unless  you explain why you consider the job good .

You can talk about anything from salary and working conditions, to a meaningful purpose and affinity to their brand. As long as your words make sense (saying that you like the salary offer in a place that offers minimum wage would not make much sense), they will be satisfied with your answer. What’s more, they will see that you did your research, prepared for the interviews , and the offer actually means something to you.

Being honest can be your best bet, not only in the interviews

At the end of the day, most of us apply for jobs because we have to. World revolves around money, and unless you have money you quickly end up on the fringe of society, struggling to meet your basic needs. Nobody dreams of such a destiny.

If you struggle, however, or find yourself just one paycheck away from living on the street , you should not be ashamed of your situation. You didn’t have it easy in life, typically it isn’t your mistake, and the money-driven world we currently live in is ruthless, and cruel to those less fortunate…

If you apply for a position not many people are interested in , for some difficult job with low payment, such as working on a construction site, honesty is your best bet. You can say that with your current situation you don’t really have any choice, and will accept any job, as long as they pay you and you have money to pay the bills.

Now it doesn’t mean that you should play a victim , or sound desperate in your meeting with the hiring managers. You keep your head up high, but are aware of your situation , see things as they are at the moment, and simply try all you can to keep your head above the water, and reach better tomorrows…

WBZ-TV anchor leaves his dream job, and pens an essay about it

Liam martin explains his decision in a boston magazine essay.

Liam Martin just left WBZ-TV to join a marketing and communications firm.

Liam Martin just walked away from his dream job: TV anchor, at WBZ-TV. Not only did he walk away, Martin decided to publish why he did it, with a Boston magazine essay .

In that essay, Martin details his own emotional struggles, not to mention the physical challenge of waking up at 2:15 a.m. for the morning shift. He previously worked an evening shift, but that meant barely seeing his two young children. The move to the morning shift meant he was often too tired to be truly present for them.

So he left the news business completely, joining former NBCUniversal newscaster Jackie Bruno as a partner in her PR and communications business, Newsmaker Marketing, along with third partner Rachel Robbins, formerly with Greenough Communications. (Bruno penned a similarly themed essay for Boston magazine a year ago.)

Martin decided to write it in part because men often don’t feel comfortable talking about mental health issues or the struggles of balancing family and work. The response, he said, has been overwhelming.

He still gets to tell stories, but in a different way. For example, he just spent a day in New Hampshire working on a documentary-style video about Cyclyx, a plastics recycling company.

Martin misses the rush of the newsroom. But he’s also glad to no longer be in it.

“I miss the people at WBZ-TV,” Martin said. “I do not miss having to be in the know all the time about everything.”

This is an installment of our weekly Bold Types column, which runs in print every Tuesday.

Ukraine desperately needs to replenish its depleted forces in the face of relentless Russian attacks.

So it has lowered the draft age from 27 to 25.

That means that more young people will have to leave their jobs to join the army.

And face an almost certain future of violence and tragedy.

‘Waiting for My Time to Come’: Ukraine’s New Draft Law Unsettles the Young

By Yurii Shyvala and Thomas Gibbons-Neff

David Guttenfelder and Yurii Shyvala traveled across Ukraine to talk to young people about the country’s conscription law.

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine probably changed the fates of thousands of Ukrainian men when he signed a law lowering the draft age to 25 from 27 this month , more than two years after Russia began its full-scale invasion.

Ukrainian forces are struggling to hold back the far larger Russian Army, and desperately need their ranks replenished. Now many of the young men who remain in Ukraine — thousands of others have illegally fled the country — worry about their future.

Reporters from The New York Times spoke to Ukrainian men who could be affected by the change.

‘I am worried, even a little scared’

Yegor Khomchenko, the owner of a communal bakery in eastern Ukraine who turns 25 next month, said he had many friends who had gone to war.

But he said that his wife, Amelia, had told him that she would “do everything possible to prevent me from being taken away” if he were to be drafted.

“I am worried, even a little scared,” Mr. Khomchenko said. “But everything will be as God intended.”

Mr. Khomchenko lives in Druzhkivka, an industrial town in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine. Russia has shelled the town with missiles and artillery, but life goes on, even though on most nights you can still hear the rumble of fighting on the front line nearby. At the beginning of the war, his wife, then pregnant, traveled to the central Ukraine city of Dnipro. She returned home after giving birth to their son.

“She feels quite calm here because our family is together. We can’t imagine living separately, and don’t know how people separated by war for months and years can cope with this ordeal,” he said. “Of course, when there is shelling in Druzhkivka, Amelia is scared, but we are strong together,” he added.

A row of shirtless men sitting in a sauna.

‘I was terrified at the thought of going to war’

Nestor Babskyi, 23, a physical therapist at a rehabilitation center in western Ukraine, sees several Ukrainian soldiers a day who have been wounded and maimed by the war. He said he felt guilt about not having served himself and a sense of dread for what lay ahead.

“At first,” Mr. Babskyi said, “I was terrified at the thought of going to war, but now I am calm about it.”

The wounded soldiers “have played their role and returned to live their lives, so I’m waiting for my time to come.” He added: “I realize that I will definitely be more useful there than here. This thought calms me down.”

‘Young people are the future'

Oleksandr Manchenko, 26, a journalist from Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, who has covered the war, noted the tough calculation that President Zelensky had probably faced in lowering the draft age.

“Young people are the future, no matter how trite it may sound,” Mr. Manchenko said.

“Perhaps he thought that Ukraine could do without mobilizing young people, but apparently the military situation does not allow us to have such a luxury,” he said.

Mr. Manchenko said he respected the bravery of those who enlisted in the early days of the war. “It is thanks to them that we survived,” he said, adding that he doubted his own courage and did not want to fight.

“Furthermore, I want to continue doing what I am doing because I think my work is also important,” he said. “But I’m not going to run away from mobilization and hide. So we’ll see how my fate unfolds.”

‘I need to be as professional as possible’

Maksym Sukhyi, 27, a dental technician in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, had already reached the minimum conscription age when the new law was signed on April 3. He said he had been training to go to war since August 2022 but had yet to enlist.

He has been looking for a unit to join while learning about weapons and tactics at a camp on the weekends and going to the gym.

Training in Ukrainian military units is often uneven at best, and those men who are drafted — rather than the ones who join voluntarily — are often assigned to the infantry. Those ground troops usually pull the hardest duty: sitting in trenches under heavy shelling and attacking enemy lines if need be.

Mr. Sukhyi said he was bracing for such possibilities.

“I need to be as professional as possible. If I go to war, I also want to be a professional there,” he said. “Therefore, I prepare for possible mobilization as much as time and financial resources allow. If I end up at war, I don’t want to be someone who knows nothing.”

‘My parents are more worried’

Vasyl Vanzhurak, 24, is a sawmill worker in western Ukraine’s Carpathian Mountains. He said that he had wanted to enlist but his father went off to fight, leaving him to take care of his mother and other relatives in the war’s early months.

“Am I worried? Yes and no,” Mr. Vanzhurak said. “My parents are more worried about me going to the army than I am.”

He said he realized that with such a brutal war going on, “they still need people there.”

‘This war, unfortunately, will last a long time’

Denys Yemets, an electrician at a steel plant in southern Ukraine, turned 25 last month. He said he was not too worried about the change in the draft age since he believed he was needed more at the steel plant than in the army. But, if called up, he would go fight, he said.

“I’ve already gotten used to the idea that this war, unfortunately, will last a long time,” he said. “At first, we all hoped that it would be over quickly, but later it turned out that reality is much harsher.”

Mr. Yemets said that his uncle and stepfather, who had already fought in the war, had discouraged him from fighting. “They really did not want me to follow in their footsteps and serve in the army,” he said.

“I am the only male descendant left in the family, and they are very worried that I won’t be OK,” he said. “They would definitely want me to stay at the plant and continue to support my mother, aunt and grandmother.”

Generations of Ukrainians were upended when Russia invaded. As the war continues with no end in sight, Ukraine’s youngest are in increasing peril, at risk of being dragged toward the carnage of ground combat as they defend their homeland.

On the front lines, their fate will be decided by, as the English World War I poet Wilfred Owen once wrote, “chance’s strange arithmetic.”
