What is clinical research.

Clinical research is a branch under the healthcare sciences that is responsible for finding out the effectiveness and safety of medical devices, medications, diagnostic products and treatment regimens that are intended for human use to help cure illnesses. Clinical research is important for the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, alleviating of symptoms of a disease, but it is much different from clinical practice.

You want to get a career for yourself in clinical research, then let's take you through the drill.

The first step is to get an education.

Earn a bachelor's degree in a life science or health related discipline. Courses like medicine, pharmacology, biology, molecular biology, genetics, anatomy, biotechnology, nursing, physiology, chemistry, or bioengineering will equip you with the necessary and relevant knowledge to get you into clinical research.

Supplement your education by applying for the courses offered at your university or from professional organizations like Certified Clinical Research Professionals (CCRPS) and Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) . These courses will include; study designs, Good Clinical Practices (GCP) , research ethics, drug development cycle, regulatory affairs and requirements both in the US and internationally, among others.

Get a certification from a reputable organization, such as CCRPS , ACRPS , and Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) . Make sure you study the ICH GCP guidelines and ethics to make you competent. Training in the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) Good Clinical Practices (GCP) ethics and guidelines improves your chances greatly. At CCRPS, we offer a free ICH GCP certification to help you get started.

Keep proper documented records of your certifications as well as your education.This will save you a lot of time and stress.

Volunteer - Look for volunteering opportunities around your area and volunteer to help with the projects that will be carried out in the clinical research industry. The ACRP Hiring Guidelines for Entry Level Clinical Research Coordinators™ (CRCs) is the industry’s first comprehensive set of competency-based guidelines for hiring entry-level CRCs.

This document provides best practices from industry experts to assist with:

• Reducing staff turnover by allowing clinical research sites to hire CRCs who will be more satisfied and successful in their role;
• Guiding human resources departments and hiring managers in the CRC candidate selection and assessment process; and
• Standardizing and professionalizing the career of CRCs.

The objectives of these guidelines are to help those who hire entry level CRCs better hone and prioritize their hiring process to focus on the competencies that are most predictive of success.

Annunciation cathedral.

The first stone in the foundation of Annunciation Cathedral was laid by the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russians in 1998. In 2003, the monument to the First Bishop of the City of Voronezh the Holy Mitrofanios was erected in front of the Cathedral.

Akatov-Alexeyevsky Monastery

Address: 2, Osvobozhdeniya Truda (Liberation of Labor) Street.

The monastery was built in 1620 in tribute to the victory the citizens of Voronezh had had over the Lithuanians and the Ukrainian Cossacks on the commemoration day of Alexy I, the Moscow Metropolitan.

Initially the Monastery was called “The Alexeevsky Monastery on the okat”. Okat meant a gentle slope of the hill where, in front of the river Voronezh, the monastery was erected. Closed in 1931 by the atheistically-minded Bolsheviks it was turned into a nunnery in 1990.

This is the oldest brick building in Voronezh dating back to 1674 and reproducing the architectural style of the Moscow Kremlin towers.

Ilyinskaya Church

Address: 2, Sevastiyanovsky Street.

The church was built in 1767-1771 on the top of the steep hill on the bank of the Voronezh River under the guidance of Alexey Bolkhovitinov, the cleric, the father of Yevgeny Bolkhovitinov (1767-1837), an outstanding figure of the Russian Enlightenment.

The Church was famous for the beauty of its interior, its ancient icons and wall paintings. From 1934 to 1998 there was a Depository of the Voronezh Region State Archives. Presently the Church has been restored and is known as one of the most beautiful temples in Voronezh.

Voronezh is considered the heart of the "Black Earth Region," a rich soiled region in the south of Central Russia . In its post-Soviet history it has also come to be known as the heart of Russia's "Red Belt," the center of contemporary Russian communism, owing to its high unemployment levels. An interesting read for visitors is Black Earth City , an account written by Charlotte Hobson, a foreign student visiting the capital in 1991–92.
