⚙️ College Essay about Cars: Useful Tips

Preparing for composting an essay about a car, you may wonder where to start and how to handle it. In this section, we will introduce some helpful tips. See what you should include and elaborate on in your car essay.

Just in 1 hour! We will write you a plagiarism-free paper in hardly more than 1 hour

  • Get creative. Some students may think that essays on cars are not the right place for creativity. Writing about cars should be full of some specific terms and descriptions of various car details. However, it is a mistake. Essays on cars can omit such issues but remain informative and catchy.
  • Keep your opinion to yourself. You don’t have to present a positive or negative conclusion about cars. You are not required to have an unequivocal statement when you write about such a difficult topic. In order to fulfill this requirement, you can even use a thesis statement creator to come up with unbiased foundation for your content.
  • Don’t try to say everything at once . Your essay has a word limit, so you’re better to find one topic to talk about. Focus on one aspect of the issue, such as environmental impact, and state your position with evidence.
  • Change an angle. If you are not interested in a topic but need to write about cars, look at the subject from the other side. If you are not willing to elaborate on ecological impact, write about races. If you don’t want to talk about sports, write about the invention of the first car. The subject is extensive, so everyone will find something of their own, especially if you were not given a topic in advance.

Thus, writing essays about cars can also be exciting. If you think for a while, you will find ways of writing your paper creatively.

Tom Wolfe's New Journalism Started With A Story About Cars

After a prolific career that included works like The Right Stuff , Bonfire of the Vanities and The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test , New Journalism pioneer Tom Wolfe died yesterday at 88 . But before New Journalism was a thing, in November 1963, Wolfe wrote a lot of words in Esquire for the first time, about George Barris and the custom-car scene in California, which Wolfe thought was elevating the practice to high art. He was right!

Related Content

The story, titled There Goes (Varoom! Varoom!) That Kandy Kolored (Thphhhhhh!) Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby ... , makes for somewhat hard reading these days, but the elements of Wolfe’s style—and the style of fellow New Journalism writers like Joan Didion, Norman Mailer, and Hunter S. Thompson—was already there.

As they tell me about the Ford Custom Car Caravan, I can see that Ford has begun to comprehend this teen-age style of life and its potential. The way Ford appears to figure it is this: Thousands of kids are getting hold of cars and either hopping them up for speed or customizing them to some extent, usually a little of both. Before they get married they pour all their money into this. If Ford can get them hooked on Fords now, after the kids are married they’ll buy new Fords. Even the kids who aren’t full-time car nuts themselves will be influenced by which car is considered “boss.” They use that word a lot, “boss.” The kids used to consider Ford the hot car, but then, from 1955 to 1962, Chevrolet became the favorite. They had big engines and were easy to hop up, the styling was simple, and the kids could customize them easily. In 1959, and more so in 1960, Plymouth became a hot car, too. In 1961 and 1962, it was all Chevrolet and Plymouth. Now Ford is making a big push. A lot of the professional hot-rod and custom-car people, adults, will tell you that now Ford is the hot car, but you have to discount some of it, because Ford is laying money on everybody right and left, in one form or another. In the Custom Car Caravan, all the cars have been fashioned out of Ford bodies except the ones that are completely handmade, like the aforementioned Silhouette. Anyway, Don Beebe is saying, over a loudspeaker, “I hate to break up that dancing, but let’s have a little drag racing.”

The piece is largely about George Barris, the legendary builder and customizer who, would later redesign a revived Pontiac GTO after complaints from fans in 2004 that Pontiac, in fact, fucked it up. But back then Barris was just a local legend, wrenching in Southern California.

Barris, whose family is Greek, is a solid little guy, five feet seven, thirty-seven years old, and he looks just like Picasso. When he’s working, which is most of the time, he wears a heavy white T-style shirt, faded off-white pants cut full with pleats in the manner of Picasso walking along a Mediterranean bluff in the wind at Rapallo, and crepe-sole slipper-style shoes, also off-white. Picasso, I should add, means nothing to Barris, although he knows who he is. It’s just that to Barris and the customizers there is no one great universe of form and design called Art. Yet that’s the universe he’s in. He’s not building cars, he’s creating forms. Barris starts taking me through Kustom City, and the place looks like any other body shop at first, but pretty soon you realize you’re in a gallery. This place is full of cars such as you have never seen before. Half of them will never touch the road. They’re put on trucks and trailers and carted all over the country to be exhibited at hot-rod and custom-car shows. They’ll run, if it comes to that—they’re full of big, powerful, hopped-up chrome-plated motors, because all that speed and power, and all that lovely apparatus, has tremendous emotional meaning to everybody in customizing. But it’s like one of these Picasso or Miro rugs. You don’t walk on the damn things. You hang them on the wall. It’s the same thing with Barris’ cars. In effect, they’re sculpture. For example, there is an incredible object he built called the XPAK-400 air car. The customizers love all that X jazz. It runs on a cushion of air, which is beside the point, because it’s a pure piece of curvilinear abstract sculpture. If Brancusi is any good, then this thing belongs on a pedestal, too. There is not a straight line in it, and only one true circle, and those countless planes, and tremendous baroque fins, and yet all in all it’s a rigid little piece of solid geometrical harmony.

You can read the whole thing (paywalled) here , though perhaps more interesting that the piece itself is it was the result of writer’s block.

One more thing: His magazine bio from back then was also about what you’d expect:

The Thomas K. Wolfe who appears on page 114 is the same Tom Wolfe who turned up in our October issue with the article on Cassius Clay ; the change in name was established to clear up, a generation from now, any possible confusion as to which Wolfe wrote Look Homeward, Angel. Our Mr. Wolfe is a New York journalist on the staff of the New York Herald Tribune who was born in Richmond, Virginia. He earned a Ph.D. at Yale in American studies, then, two weeks before starting a teaching career, decided to be a proletarian instead. The decision led him first into trucking, until disillusionment set in, and then into journalism, where he remained. The Hot-Rodders article was the first he wrote for us. To write the Cassius Clay piece, which came in later but ran a month sooner (an indication, to coin a euphemism, of editorial “flexibility”), Wolfe spent a week and a half with Clay, including recording sessions and the Clay’s evening promenades through town. “He’s a man of changeable moods,” Wolfe says. “He can be tremendously expansive one minute and subdued the next, and you’re never sure of the causes of the change. But I like doing this kind of article. It’s sort of like action painting.” Mr. Wolfe, who is an artist (see self-portrait above), though not an action-painter, wonders in this twilight of his career—he’s thirty-two—why he didn’t start free-lancing sooner.

New Journalism: it was just journalism, but nobody was editing it.

Good Example Of Cars Essay

ORDER PAPER LIKE THIS

Ever since I was a child, I was somehow passionate about cars. My mother would tell me that she would go buy me toy cars when I was three years old and I would enjoy driving them all round the house not minding where or the effects of my after destruction. My father would drive me in his car and I would enjoy it and every time I would see my father leave for the house, I would know that he is going to the car and I would follow him running so as he would drive with me. With time, I grew up and left some of my childish ways behind, but the love of cars has never left me. To date am still amazed by cars and would do anything to own one, not just a car but an automobile that would suite my interests. Nowadays, am just not fascinated by any car that moves on the roads or that it parked at any parking beside the roads or in showrooms. The site of a car that has a powerful engine and pimped out exteriors that is pleasing will definitely fire me up and interest me to know more about it. Such cars make me want to own one and even improve them to be better off to my standards. I sit down and tell myself that in whatever I do, It must be something related to cars that will allow me to be viewing them each and every day and allow me to associate with cars of prestige most probably owing my own showroom or garage or something of the sort in the near future. A community to me is any group of persons that live together in any social gathering to create a society. In a community, most of the people usually have the same interests and tend to know one another as they have lived together for a period of time. This means that people of the same community are known to have a particular taste and preferences that are related in some manner hence the reason why they easily associate together. My community mainly consist of the older generation hence seem to be a bit conservative. My community is mainly calm at most of the time with each people knowing most of their neighbor and caring mostly about each other. The income in our community is not as high but just average, therefore there is no high expectations hence simple living. It will be noted one in ten people will be found to be living on the fast lane as compared to most of the people. In my community, people do not really care about my dream of cars. As they are mostly conservative, the cars they own are just normal cars with no specific trait that can make it special or interesting. I find that the community does not embrace my dream apart from the few friends who I do share with. This makes it a bit harder for me to realize my dream as there is no enough support from those close to me. The only thing that keeps me going is the internet where I can go online and find cars that are mind-blowing hence keeping my passion alive. As Cars is what my passion is all about, I see no reason to waste time and focus on other things but to focus on things that will enable my passion to be achieved. As they say, life is short, there is no need to waste my time on things that bore me but focus on the right issues in my life. Also dreams and passion tend to be one thing as one leads to another. When one is on the position to realize ones dream, why waste time doing other things which one is not passionate about yet one can directly do things he or she is passionate about? I believe that in order for one to fully realize ones dream, one needs effort and dedication. This means that time is an issue hence the need to start it early so as to realize my dream early. The more I focus on my dream the more passion I get as there are a lot that needs to be done in order to full achieve my dream. As I continue to do my research, I will be in a better position to analyze the car industry in the future hence this will help me to advance quickly in my dream career hence helping me satisfy my passion effectively. All said and done, curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction resurrected it, being passionate about something comes about with curiosity, hence there is this urge of a person wanting to be successful in his or her accomplishment in order to convince himself that all is well. I have always wanted to focus on cars, see, feel and drive in different cars as this is what fires me up in the long run, hence such an accomplishment will be highly welcomed.

Opinion | Bill Essayli: Vehicle registration fees are out of control. AB 2963 would cut car taxes and cap late fees

Why are assembly democrats afraid to give this common sense bill a hearing.

custom car essay

The ruling supermajority Democrat Party in Sacramento has made California the most expensive and difficult state to live in. While most of us can’t afford a fancy dinner at the French Laundry like Gavin Newsom—we all have to drive to get to work and run our lives. That’s why Sacramento Democrats’ assault on everyday commuters with the highest gas and car taxes in the nation defies logic, and it’s why I authored AB 2963 to provide some relief.

However, Democrats in Sacramento would rather spend over $4 billion to give illegal immigrants healthcare instead of providing you a break on your car taxes.

If enacted, AB 2963 would have reduced unfair vehicle registration fees for non-commercial pickup trucks, which many of my constituents in Assembly District 63 drive on a daily basis. It also would provide relief for drivers dealing with outrageous late registration fees from the DMV.

Whether it’s gas prices nearly two dollars higher than the national average, some of the highest car insurance rates in the US, or eye-popping annual vehicle registration fees, Democratic politicians have not been coy with their anti-car, anti-commuter agenda. They want you out of your car, living in a tiny apartment, next to a public transit stop. I do not intend to comply, and I suspect neither will most Californians.

Vehicle registration fees have become prohibitively expensive for drivers to keep up with when the annual bill comes due. California tacks on all sorts of fees and additional costs that can lead to a ballooning total that many are unable to pay. According to the Franchise Tax Board, approximately four million vehicle registration accounts become delinquent every year.

For those who end up in delinquency, late fees accumulate rapidly, often doubling the original amount due in short order. The current structure of late fees for vehicle registration is punitive and disproportionately affects owners of older and lower-value vehicles, causing excessive financial strain and cyclical delinquency as customers fall further behind each year. If you do fall behind, don’t expect your state to show mercy. Nearly 1.4 million Californians annually face wage garnishment to collect debt on behalf of the DMV for failing to pay their registrations.

It certainly sounds like these are the individuals we should consider lending a helping hand to, doesn’t it? A classic case of a broken system that isn’t working for the average Californian. I introduced my bill for precisely this reason. But was that good enough for Sacramento Democrats? Of course not. They said they would not even consider my bill because “the state” can’t afford the lost revenue. What about the taxpayer, who cares if they can afford it?

AB 2963 has the endorsement of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, the largest and most influential taxpayer watchdog in California that has fought tirelessly to establish and defend taxpayer protections such as Prop 13. Through their many legal victories and successful tax-reduction campaigns, HJTA has saved Californians more than $528 billion since 1978.

Their support emphasizes that AB 2963 offers tangible relief to Californians struggling in our increasingly unaffordable Golden State.

So what about the suffering Californian, already struggling to put food on their family’s table, who now faces wage garnishment to pay off their delinquent vehicle registration? Where is the compassion and empathy from Democrats in Sacramento who are denying that family this car tax relief?

We can afford to give Californians a break on their car taxes—it’s pennies compared to the billions Democrats are spending to give illegal immigrants health care. So long as Democrats control Sacramento, common sense solutions like AB 2963 will not pass—they’re too afraid to even give it a hearing! But elections have consequences and the People have the power to evict these politicians from Sacramento and support candidates who will work for you, not their special interests in Sacramento.

Bill Essayli was elected in 2022 to represent the 63rd State Assembly District, which includes the whole cities of Norco, Menifee, Lake Elsinore, and Canyon Lake, as well as portions of the cities of Eastvale, Riverside, and Corona. Assemblyman Essayli is a former federal prosecutor and Riverside County Deputy District Attorney. He is also a small business owner as partner at the estate planning law firm of Essayli & Brown LLP.

How to Buy a Car: A Background Check Essay

Introduction.

Buying a car can be an intimidating task, regardless of whether a person is a first-timer or not. There is quite some valuable information one needs to know before making that final decision to buy a particular car.

The most important thing that a person must decide first is whether he/she wants a used car or a new car. If the person is looking to buy a used car, a background check is very important. This will include knowledge of the number of preceding owners, previous mechanical problems and accidents and finally, past maintenance of the car. A used car can give a person a great deal as the car may be well maintained and still be in an excellent condition.

Used cars can be located easily from dealers, used car websites and even from new car dealers. It’s important to have a trusted mechanic inspect the car to check for any damages. One should take time to read the paperwork before signing any document to avoid hidden buying conditions which might be problematic in future. It is also important to make sure that all finances are ready for the purchase.

If a person decides to buy a new car, it’s important to determine if he/she can actually afford it. Besides the cost price, another cost that might have a great impact on a person’s finances includes; Insurance cost, repair and maintenance, registration and licensing and fuel. After determining that one can afford the car, it’s now time to decide the type of car he/she wants. This is largely influenced by your lifestyle and the purpose for which one is buying the car.

Price determination is a key factor to consider before making the final deal, it is important to compare prices from different dealers and consult widely from recent owners of that particular car one wants to buy. This is to ensure that a person gets the best deal. A new car costs a lot of money; in this case it’s important to determine whether one will be buying the car from personal savings or from a bank loan. It is at this point in time that one needs to make sure that all financing processes are through and that the money is available for the car purchase.

Test drive is another important step that should never be overlooked. Arrange with the dealer to have a test drive one week before making the final decision. Ask for all available literature and manuals to read prior to purchasing. This gives you ample time to decide and ask any question that one might be having in regards to the car that he/she want to buy.

Finally, after the person is certain that he/she is are ready to buy the car, it’s now time to put the pen to paper. Check and counter-check all the documents and make sure that any agreement is put down in writing before signing any document. Sign on the dotted line on all required documents. Finally, hand over the cash or cheque, as the dealer hands over the keys. The final step is driving the car home.
