Solved XAT Essay topic XAT essay topic which earlier appeared in XAT exam is also an important guide. The previous XAT essay topic ‘Globalization and Jingoism always coexist’ seems to be an abstract Essay topic, but in fact it is a current affairs topic for essay writing. The importance of this essay topic can be understood by the fact that it has gained international relevance post the United States’ President elections. The solved XAT essay topics is shared below:

Solved topic: Globalization and Jingoism always coexist The last decade of 20 th  century began with the concept of Globalization especially the developing economies taking steps to leap from Jingoism – the too aggressive protectionism at national level to spread wings in order to reap benefits of competitive Global markets.

The move of Globalization has been viewed as the step taken to bring the world closer, get the benefits of advanced economies, make the economy of the home country grow on the lines of Global growth, know and spread the culture of one another. However, since Globalization without the touch and feel of domestic requirements will lose the relevance at national level, both the concepts have coexisted and will continue to co-exist.

Globalization: Concept is not new Globalization is the new name for Laissez-faire – a French term that came up in 17 th  century calling for minimum Government intervention and allowing free movement of goods and services offering healthy competition to the local economy to enable it to improve its quality and standard.

Given the fact that many countries which remained under the control of foreign powers for hundreds of years and could not compete Globally after they were freed and apart from the moving on the path of growth in accordance with Global trends, they had to protect their home industries by imposing import restrictions, high tariffs, custom restrictions, quotas on certain imported goods to protect and enable home industries to grow. To inculcate the feeling of nationalism the use of domestic made products has been promoted.

Thus, the Globalization with Jingoism has continued to co-exist for centuries to help the under developed countries to become developed and become one of the strong economies with high per capita income in the world.

Earlier the developed economies like United Kingdom, United States of America and other countries also aggressively practiced Globalization with jingoism but placed no tough restriction on employment to the skilled technical personnel and other human resources coming for employment from other countries. The outsourcing of services in low per capita income countries was also freely permitted to increase profit margin in home countries.

No restriction on imports, exports of goods and services by the developed countries like USA was imposed earlier.

Quite recently, Jingoism-the national patriotism to somewhat extreme level has again started overpowering the Globalization even in developed countries. This could also result in isolation due to too much protectionism.

Moderate Difficulty Exam for AICTE Approved MBA/PGDM Colleges : Moderate Difficulty Exam for AICTE Approved MBA/PGDM Colleges    - Check Your % in 5 Minutes

More Developed countries practicing Jingoism Recently elected President of America Mr Donald Trump has fuelled the Jingoism more while announcing number of restrictions on free import of various goods, issuing the Visa to foreign nationals and foreign skilled professionals coming for employment in USA.

USA has recently announced a hefty increase in import tariff on Aluminium and steel. The Jingoist action has been criticized by Europe, China and World Trade Organization alike and is viewed as a step to stop spread of Globalization. Any counter reaction by Europe on other imports from USA may become a deterrent on spread of Global Trade that could become prosperity.

Similarly, the President of USA has put the arrival of professionals from certain Islamic countries under a tough scan by announcing certain restrictions. This has irked the targeted Islamic countries. But on the similar grounds US President has also announced liberal aids to many countries and has stopped the major chunk of aid to the countries like Pakistan who give shelter to the terrorists. This move is appreciated worldwide as the spread of Global Trade is not possible without elimination of fear of terrorism.

Brexit is another example of Jingoism to protect home economy against Globalization. Brexit refers to the Britain moving out of the European Union with the objective to put a check on immigration by tightening its visa norms deviating from the European Union norms.

No going back: Co-existence is easier now Internet, Social media, easy Global movements, have made it easier to get in touch any part of the world, buy any product from any part of the world, move and set up a business abroad.

This has given rise to Global networking and views are instantly expressed on any Global happening or event. It has also become possible to promote the native product, culture and make it more prominent while competing with cultures and practices of other countries. It however depends how well both are practiced and not taken to either of the two extremes on Globalization or Jingoism.

Fear of loss giving rise to Jingoism Countries are opening up now. More people study and search employment in foreign countries than earlier. Many of them migrate to other countries for good and settle there. This has given rise to the fear among the natives that their jobs might be taken away as people are coming at lower remuneration, outsourcing by industries in low cost countries could result in loss of employment in home country and so on.

However, since it is the Globalization that is spreading business, it is very much possible that with the expansion of trade, home country will reap more benefits resulting in more employment for natives in the expansion phase.

The fear of losing the native culture, indigenous arts, cottage industry among others also give rise to Jingoism, making it a hindrance in spread of Globalization.

Thus, with the greater Globalization, more fear of loss will be there giving rise to more Jingoism. Hence, both will coexist unless the countries become confined to isolated homes without making any Global trade which is not possible for the future of world economy.

It is now for the country, understanding among the people how they keep a balance between Globalization and Jingoism.

XAT 2023 Question Paper - Essay

For the following questions answer them individually

Choose ONE of the three arguments given below and develop a coherent essay that critically evaluates it. Support your analysis with relevant claims, reasons and/or examples. The essay should not exceed 250 words. Argument I. Risk is the essential need of soul. The absence of risk produces a kind of boredom which paralyses in a different way from fear, but almost as much. Argument II. Rapid decarbonization to fulfill India’s Net Zero commitment will have business consequences. Argument III. Someone with half your IQ is making 10X as you because they aren’t smart enough to doubt themselves. Answer Question no. 1 if you choose Argument I. Answer Question no. 2 if you choose Argument II. Answer Question no. 3 if you choose Argument III. In today's world, when people talk of risk, they are mostly discussing a financial investment or a business decision. However, there are several types of risk - many of which are never considered or factored in while making decisions. For example, most people understand credit risk or financial risk, but rarely do we consider the moral risk or social risk of a decision. However, when it comes to the mind and soul of a person, these are exactly the types of risks that are relevant. And as people are risk-taking or risk-averse in a financial sense, they are similarly risk-taking or riskaverse when it comes to the other risks. Often, risk averse behaviour, in moral or social spheres, leads to an atrophy of the mind and a decay of the soul. When one thinks of social risk, the first example that comes to mind is the oftrepeated refrain - 'what will people say'. This one refrain prevents people from seeking out happiness and doing things that would truly make them happy. When people choose not take any social risk, they end up being inauthentic versions of themselves- an imposter of their true self. Similarly, when some one cannot risk failure in life choices, be it by leaving a job to start a business or choosing a field that they are well-suited for which isn't mainstream, they risk ossifying in life choices that prevent them from reaching their true potential. At a society level, when people refuse to testify to the truth or refuse to rise up to a tyrant because they cannot take the risk of failure, the society and the individual both suffer. Thus, risk is essential to reach one's true potential and to become one's authentic self. Without risk, there is no growth, and without growth, and individual will be a stunted version of themselves. The risk-reward framework that is often quoted for investment returns is also true for other forms of risk - the higher the risk, the greater the reward; for a person's mind and soul.

Argument ii. rapid decarbonization to fulfill india’s net zero commitment will have business consequences., argument iii. someone with half your iq is making 10x as you because they aren’t smart enough to doubt themselves., login to your cracku account, hello 👋, ready to unlock your success.

Essay Writing in XAT Exam- Overview, Essay Writing, Tips for Essay Writing

Essay Writing in XAT Exam

The Xavier School of Management administers the XAT exam annually. The XAT is a management entrance exam that allows qualified candidates to enrol in XLRI Jamshedpur’s MBA and PGDM programs. The XAT exam includes an essay writing section, which is frequently combined with the General Knowledge section, and applicants are given 40 minutes to complete both. Candidates often find the Essay Writing in XAT exam  the most difficult of all, with concerns primarily about the essay’s subjects and how to deliver it in the allocated time.

xat essay writing topics 2023

However, it is important to note that XLRI has eliminated the Essay Writing section of the XAT 2022 exam. The XAT Exam 2022 will consist of three sections: an online objective test, a group discussion, and a personal interview.

Essay Writing In XAT Exam

The XAT essay writing test was originally paper-based, but XLRI converted it to an online computer-based test following computerisation. The Xavier Labor Relations Institute has administered the XAT exam for decades. But they recently announced a significant alteration to the exam format, which has caused quite a stir on the internet.

XLRI has removed the essay section from the XAT exam. However, the scoring methodology has not changed. In the XAT, the essay writing test has been replaced by multiple-choice questions worth one mark each.

Essay Writing Topics For XAT Exam

In the previous XAT exams, the essay topics were mostly abstract ideas, social issues, or sometimes based on current events. While the essay topics may appear simple, candidates are frequently unaware of how to articulate their ideas in 200 words within the time limit when writing an essay.

The XAT essay subjects were twisted, and they appeared to be abstract topics that asked for your opinion rather than concrete facts. XAT Essays intended to touch the lives of ordinary people and the difficulties they faced regularly.  The following are some XAT Essay Topics that have appeared in prior years’ XAT exams:

To provide genuine service, one must include qualities that cannot be bought or evaluated, such as honesty and integrity.

At the age of 83, Frank Lloyd Wright was asked which of his projects he would choose as his masterwork, and he replied, “The next one.”

Is it a mirage or a reality to have economic progress without causing environmental damage?

Capitalism’s intrinsic fault is the unequal distribution of blessings, while Socialism’s inherent virtue equals the distribution of misery.

Due to the vast extent of poverty, the government is unable to implement policies efficiently.

The main cause of India’s economic decline is corruption.

How To Write Essay For XAT Exam

Besides content knowledge, Essay Writing is an art that includes writing flow, grammatically accurate composition, and creating meaningful words in simple and clear language. The primary abilities required for writing a decent essay are subject knowledge, clarity of thought, correct use of vocabulary and grammar, the flow of ideas, and illustrations based on facts. XAT 2023 Analysis

XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) 2023 was conducted online on January 8, 2023, between 2 PM and 5:30 PM. The test had almost the same structure as last year. Three essay topics were provided. The test-taker had to select one.

The structure of the test along with suggested time allocation, good attempts, and estimated cut-offs based on the feedback from IMS students and experts are in the table below:

The Question Paper consisted of :

Verbal and Logical Ability2612655-6013-14
Decision Making2212250-5511-12
Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation2812855-6017-18
Total7676
General Awareness25125No Negative Marks12
EssayThe essay will be assessed if the candidate is shortlisted for the interview.

Part A questions invited negative marks of – 0.25 for each incorrect response. In addition, there was a penalty of  -0.1 mark for every unattempted question after 8 unattempted questions.

Overall, XAT-2023 was similar in difficulty level to XAT 2022. The DM Section was on par with the same last year with a few questions in DM being difficult. The VALR section was slightly more challenging than the same section in XAT 2022. The QA-DI section was slightly easier compared with XAT 2022.

Based on the inputs received from students and IMS mentors who appeared for the test and based on the actual cutoffs over the last two years, we estimate the following cut-offs for XLRI BM and HRM programs:

XLRI BM Program

Male candidates6-75-69-1030-32
Female candidates5-64-58-928-30

XLRI HRM Program

Male (Engineers)7-85-68-929-31
Female (Engineers)6-74-57-827-29
Male(Non Engineers)7-85-67-827-29
Female (Non Engineers)6-74-56-726-28

SECTIONAL ANALYSIS

Note: For both BM and HRM programs of XLRI, the overall cutoff is significantly greater than the sum of the sectional cutoffs. Therefore, the number of good attempts for different sections has been estimated from the point of view of a student who wishes to maximize the score in that section.

Verbal and Logical Ability Section (26 questions)

There were 14 Reading Comprehension questions and 12 Verbal Ability/Reasoning questions. The Verbal ability/Verbal Reasoning questions were a fair mix of grammar, vocabulary, and reasoning-based questions (Critical Reasoning, Correct statements and Jumbled Paragraphs). The 14 RC questions were distributed among four passages and one poem. The poem-based RC was difficult. The remaining four passages were of 200 – 450 words each approximately; they had a mixture of mostly medium to difficult questions. Many of the questions were inferential and application-based.

Grammatically correct sentence22 Medium
Correct punctuation11 Difficult
Fill in the blanks (4 blanks)11 Difficult
Jumbled Paragraphs (4 / 5 statements)22 Medium
Critical Reasoning54 Medium, 1 Difficult
Paragraph completion11 Medium
Passage 1 (What is interpretation – 280 words)3Difficult
Passage 2 (Bad storytelling can impact society negatively- 450 words)3Medium
Passage 3 (Lack of understanding among corporates about global warming – 380 words)3Medium
Passage 4 (Why people procrastinate – 220 words)3Medium
Passage 5 (Poem – Three Persons by Vijay Seshadri)2Difficult

An attempt of about 13-14 questions in this section in about 55-60 minutes, with about 75-80% accuracy would be considered a good attempt.

Decision Making (2 2 questions)

This section consisted of 22 questions. There was one Quantitative DM set.

The section consisted of 6 sets of 3 questions each and 2 sets of 2 questions each. Most of the questions were on Ethical Dilemma. As usual, some questions had a fair deal of ambiguity – in that either no answer seemed correct or more than one option appeared correct. Overall, the questions were of medium difficulty. Therefore, the choice of sets/questions to attempt would have depended mainly on your personal preferences and strengths.

Case 1 – Moonlighting2Medium
Case 2 – Leave policy2Medium
Case 3 – B-school recruitment3Difficult
Case 4 – Opening a tea shop3Medium
Case 5 – Sexual harassment3Medium
Case 6 – Free food centre3Medium
Case 7 – Hiring visually impaired3Medium
Case 8 – Quantitative DM3Medium

In about 50-55 minutes, an attempt of about 11-12 questions with about 75-80% accuracy would be considered to be good.

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (28 questions)

This section was of moderate level of difficulty. As a whole, it was slightly easier than XAT-2022. Out of the 28 questions in the section, 22 were on Quantitative Ability and 6 were on Data Interpretation.

There were two sets of Data Interpretation with 3 questions each, one was based on a scatter plot, radar and bar graph while the other was on table.

Following is the break-up of the questions in the section:

EasyMediumDifficultTotal
Arithmetic2215
Geometry2316
Modern Math0123
Algebra2114
Numbers1214
79622
Multiple Diagrams1203
Table1203
Total DI2406
Total QA-DI913628

An attempt of about 17-18 questions (with about 80 percent accuracy) in about 55-60 minutes would be considered a good attempt.

Part B: Keyboard Check

General Knowledge

The 25 GK questions comprised 18 current affairs questions and 7 static GK questions. Overall, the GK section was slightly more difficult than XAT 2022.. 15 questions were based on national events, 10 questions were based on international events and miscellaneous topics As usual, the questions covered a wide range of areas and gave no special advantage to specialists in any one area.

To maximize the score in this section, one should have attempted 12 questions seriously. Additionally, as there was no negative marking in this section, all the remaining questions should also have been attempted. A score of 6 – 7 would be a good score in this section.

Essay Writing

Three topics were provided. The test-taker had to select one topic and write an essay in around  250 words.

The topics for the essay writing task were:

Now we shall share with you the strategies to improve your essay writing skills.

Gautam Puri, Vice Chairman, Career Launcher shares, “The evaluators not only look for language skills, but also for the thought process involved, the spectrum of ideas, and your knowledge pertaining to the topic at hand. Having a fair knowledge of contemporary topics will give you an edge. So reading newspapers, especially the editorial columns, is highly advised.”

Here we present to you 6 strategies for acing the essay writing section of XAT.

Analyze the topic and decide the way you want to drive it

After getting the topic, decide the direction in which you want to drive your essay into. Since mostly the topics are abstract in nature, you can contextualize them to politics, social issues, or currently happening. Once you decide on the context, your job will get much easier. “Try to think of possible topics with the current trending news and have your opinions on it.

Whilst reading the newspaper, think about your opinion on particular news. Also, think about the points in favor and opposition of that news,” mentions Ravi Prinshu , XAT 2021 topper with 99.85 percentile and XLRI Jamshedpur student.

Assemble the points before starting

The next step is to gather the points. Jot down the points in the proper order that you want to present in your essay. Support your points with the help of facts and figures, examples, etc. The more you can substantiate your points, the better it will be for the evaluation process. “I strongly advise candidates to brush up their vocabulary and practice structured essay writing. It will certainly help in getting your thoughts together and putting them into a structure while writing the essay.,” said Farzan Shaikh, another XAT 2021 topper with a 99.94 percentile.

Write a draft before starting the essay

Prepare the structure and draft essay before starting the actual essay. Do not take more than five minutes for it. Divide your points to be included in the introduction, body, and conclusion. If you prepare the draft, it would be much more convenient for you to pen down the actual essay. You can do the necessary editing and improve the language of the essay.

Structure your essay properly

Make sure that your essay consists of three parts, introduction, body, and conclusion. The essay should be around 200 to 300 words. You can separate the three parts into paragraphs. You can also add specific facts and figures through bullet points. Rishabh Bajpayi, XAT 2021 99.85 percentile shares, "I had decided to structure my essay properly, so I began with an introduction, moved on to the body, tried to illustrate with examples if possible, made my inferences, and reached a conclusion. I found having a basic structure in place helped me write essays faster and they seemed to have a nicer flow."

Keep time in check

The duration of the XAT essay is 25 minutes. Keep track of your time so that you do not exceed the time limit. Since Essay Writing would be the last question of the 3-hour XAT paper, save your energy and time till the last 25 minutes. Do not spend over 5 minutes drafting the essay and before submitting, revise the final copy.

Essay Writing

The majority of XAT Essay topics are centered on conceptually abstract ideas. The XAT's Essay Writing Test has been reinstated after a three-year hiatus. In 2019, it was scrapped from the XAT exam. The XAT essay topics are used in the WAT procedure at many major MBA institutions.

You can find the detailed syllabus of XAT 2024 below. Candidates appearing for the exam must be thorough with the entire syllabus.

Candidates appearing for the XAT 2024 exam must be aware of the following changes in the exam pattern:

Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions have been introduced.

In the redesigned XAT exam pattern, each unattempted question after the first 8 will result in a negative marking penalty of 0.10 marks.

The time of the XAT 2024 exam has been changed from 9.30 AM to 12.40 PM. The time duration for the XAT exam has been extended. Instead of three hours, the XAT 2024 exam will now run for three hours and thirty minutes.

The total number of questions has gone up from 99 to 101.

The descriptive essay test, which was discontinued in 2019, has been reintroduced. Now there will be both MCQs and descriptive questions.

The XAT 2024 exam paper will have 4 MCQ sections and 1 essay writing section.

Percentiles will not be determined by taking into account the GK section having 25 questions.

The general knowledge and essay writing portions will not carry any negative marking.

There were five options for each MCQ, but only one of them is correct.

The essay of each candidate will be assessed after they have been chosen for the interview process.

The countdown counter at the top, right-hand side of the screen displays how much time is available for you to complete the examination for the part of the question paper you are answering (Part 1/Part 2).

After the allotted 165 minutes are completed, Part 1 will be locked. You will be moved to Part 2, the section of the exam that includes the general knowledge and essay questions.

For the initial part of the XAT exam (the first three sections), the scribe will get an additional 25 minutes in 2024.

Candidates were not permitted to leave the examination center before the XAT 2024 exam is finished.

PwD applicants could submit their responses at any time between 165 and 220 minutes for Part 1 and between 15 and 20 minutes for Part 2 of the exam. A PwD candidate could therefore leave the lab after 180 minutes.

The XAT 2024 Question Paper consisted of two timed parts:

Are you feeling lost and unsure about what career path to take after completing 12th standard?

Say goodbye to confusion and hello to a bright future!

No, CAT scores are not accepted as admission criteria at XLRI. Candidates must take the XAT exam rather than the CAT in order to get admitted to XLRI. IIMs and other B Schools use CAT scores. However, both CAT and XAT scores are accepted by numerous other top b-schools in India.

Although both CAT and XAT have the same syllabus (apart from Decision Making and GK), the variation is in the sorts of questions and degree of difficulty. Both the XAT and the CAT are harder than other MBA entry examinations in terms of their level of difficulty.

The answer to how difficult is XAT from CAT, aspirants need to be aware of certain factors. Nearly all of the XAT's sections have a moderate to a high level of difficulty. An extra, highly challenging component of the XAT tests decision-making skills. Furthermore, it includes a GK portion that is absent from other competitive tests like the CAT, NMAT, etc.

Both the XAT and the CAT score highly in the quantitative ability and data interpretation portions. Similar to how the VARC and LR questions of the CAT are challenging, the Verbal Ability and Decision Making questions of the XAT are challenging. As a result, it is a little bit more challenging to score in certain CAT and XAT areas.

The XAT Analysis 2024 and candidate feedback predict that the exam will be moderate to difficult. Expect straightforward answers to the queries posed to VALR and DM. However, because most of the QADI section's questions were lengthy, that part was the hardest. According to XAT Analysis 2024, the GK segment in Part 2 was also challenging.

Yes, XAT 2024 has a negative marking. Candidates must properly understand the XAT format and pattern in order to succeed. Every appropriate response gives one mark. After 8 failed attempts, 0.10 of your total score is deducted. Each wrong response leads to a 0.25 point negative marking.

In the General Knowledge section of XAT 2024, a total of 25 MCQ-style questions will be asked. The questions are drawn from the most pertinent areas of business, economics, and current affairs, among others. Along with the other three categories, XAT GK questions will be a significant component of the XAT 2024 computer-based online test and the application procedure for XLRI.

XAT 2024 will have a total of five sections. In order to establish your percentile and merit position, the XAT syllabus for 2024 will use essential topics from areas such as Verbal and Logical Ability (VA & LR), Decision Making (DM), Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation (QA & DI), General Knowledge (GK) and Essay Writing.

Yes, there will be an essay writing test in XAT 2024. The essay writing test has a 25-minute time limit, which the applicant must adhere to. The XAT 2024 essay writing test should have a 150–200 word limit. The XAT essay writing test does not have any negative marking. The last question on the XAT exam is a question on essay writing.

As of right now, the XAT paper format for 2024 will have five sections, 100 MCQs, and one descriptive essay. Accordingly, there will be a total of 101 questions in the updated XAT exam pattern for 2024.

176 Writing Prompts to Spark Discussion and Reflection

Here are all of our Student Opinion questions from the 2023-24 school year. Each question is based on a different New York Times article, interactive feature or video.

By The Learning Network

Each day of the school year we publish a Student Opinion question inviting students to share their own opinions and experiences in response to New York Times stories on the news of the day. To introduce each question, we provide an excerpt from a related Times article, interactive or video as well as a free link to that piece.

The 176 questions we asked during the 2023-24 school year are available below and in this PDF . The prompts are organized into three sections: questions that lend themselves well to persuasive writing, questions that encourage narrative writing, and additional Student Opinion forums.

Teachers can use these prompts to help students practice narrative and persuasive writing, start classroom debates and even spark conversation between students around the world via our comments section. For more ideas on how to use these Student Opinion prompts in your classroom, you might consult this comprehensive teacher’s guide , which includes practical strategies from a dozen educators.
