Dasara Movie Review: Fiery Nani is brilliant in this predictable revenge drama

Nani has been everywhere for the past few weeks. Be it promotional events or social media, he went all out in promoting Dasara as a pan-Indian venture. When the trailer of Dasara dropped, many felt that it reminded them of Pushpa and KGF. However, Dasara was neither Pushpa nor it was KGF. It had Srikanth Odela’s stamp despite the predictable storyline.

Dharani (Nani), Suri (Deekshit Shetty) and Vennela (Keerthy Suresh) are childhood friends. They hail from a village called Veerapally, where men take the bottle. Their alcoholism affects the women in their lives. Dharani and Suri are best friends. So much so that Dharani will give up his love for Vennela, who is in love with Suri. As Suri and Vennela take their relationship to the next level, it does not go down well with Chinna Nambi (Shine Tom Chacko). The village, where coal mining is a way of life, is divided because of Rajanna (Sai Kumar) and Shivanna (Samuthirakani).

Srikanth Odela is a debutant filmmaker, but he is a promising talent. With Dasara, he has built a semi-fictional world and has successfully transported us to the village of Veerapally. He shows Dharani as a vulnerable underdog. For a hero, he cries on screen, has no bladder control and shakes up in fear when trouble knocks on the door. In contrast, Suri, his friend, is his strength. While Dharani is naïve, Suri is practical. Meanwhile, there’s a feisty Vennela, who is a breath of fresh air.

Dasara is a film that relies on its drama. Srikanth Odela is in no hurry to dive into the story the right way. In fact, it looks like he knew he had a predictable storyline in hand and decided to build a world around it so he could create an immersive experience for everyone. Dasara has so many layers. The film talks about women and how they are exploited, rampant caste politics and superstition.

While the world-building, and characterisations of the lead roles and music make Dasara enjoyable, certain tropes hold the viewers back from completely enjoying this brilliantly shot revenge drama. In a scene, Dharani takes a decision which affects Vennela’s life. However, Dasara has another scene where Vennela questions whether she has a say in her life because she was never asked! And the hyper-masculine hero apologises.

The power dynamics in the village of Veerapally keep you hooked. However, some of the initial stretches of Dasara could test your patience. Nani’s Dharani holds back for the most part of the film, while Deekshit as Suri takes the cake. It is probably because of this that the interval sequence leaves you in a state of shock.

Nani is the soul of Dasara. From expressing his vulnerabilities to crying his heart out and emoting in silence, he has given his career-best performance. Keerthy, too, has a meaty role in the film. It is actually Suri who stole the show with his effortless acting.

Something that Srikanth Odela could have worked on is the characterisation of the villain, Shine Tom Chacko. It treads on a wafer-thin line and after a point, it does not create an impact.

Santhosh Narayanan’s music and Sathyan Sooryan’s visuals make Dasara what it is. The film could remind you of Dhanush’s Asuran and Rishab Shetty’s Kantara. While the film deals with a predictable story, it does have enough meat to hold onto its own.

Dasara box office day 7 collection: Nani film grosses over ₹ 100 cr worldwide, a first for actor; fans say 'long overdue'

Actor Nani ’s latest release Dasara, a story of uprising, revenge and friendship set against the backdrop of a coal-laden hamlet, has grossed over ₹ 100 crore worldwide, the makers announced on Wednesday. The makers had organised a grand success meet, where they announced that the film has breached the ₹ 100 crore-club. Also read: Prabhas reviews Nani’s Dasara, says he loved it

Directed by debutant Odella Srikanth and featuring Nani in the role of Dharani, it also stars Keerthy Suresh, Shine Tom Chacko and Dheekshith Shetty in key roles. The makers took to Twitter to reveal a poster. Dasara is the first ₹ 100 crore grossing film for Nani.

Many people reacted to the poster and wrote that Nani has scored a much deserving blockbuster. One fan tweeted,“Yayyy. Happy for Nani, who has been consistently doing good work and not been able to deliver a massive hit. Dasara is that film (sic).” Another one wrote, “First ₹ 100 crore. Congratulations Nani for this success. Long overdue (sic).”

In the US, the film has already entered profit zone and is eyeing to enter the $2 million-club. Originally shot in Telugu, Dasara was released in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. The movie’s setting, and how Srikanth manages to transport the viewer to a never seen before milieu of coal-laden hamlet, really work in the film’s favour.

Earlier this week, SS Rajamouli took to Twitter to heap praise on the film. He wrote, “Amidst the rugged landscape and raw characters, Srikanth Odella manages a tender heart touching love story. Career best performance by Nani. Keerthy cake walks through her role. Every actor's performance was noteworthy. Cinematography is first class. Special mention to the background score. Hearty Congratulations to the Dasara team on the wonderful success (sic).”

It is worth mentioning that at the pre-release event of Dasara, Nani had said that it will be the film of the year. “Last year, RRR came from Telugu cinema. KGF and Kantara came from Kannada cinema. I can confidently and with a lot of pride say that Dasara will come from Telugu cinema in 2023,” he said.

Dasara Review & Ratings | Hit Or Flop?

Dasara Review: Dasara, Nani’s first pan-Indian movie, has been in the news a lot this month. He has been promoting the movie all over India, which is something he has never done before. Dasara’s team has done a lot to promote the movie, and people all over India are talking about it. With huge expectations, the movie finally came out today. Without wasting too much time, let’s jump right into an in-depth review to see if it’s worth seeing or not.

Dasara tells the story of Veerlapalli, a town in the Godavarikani coal mines where Dharani (Nani) steals coal from goods trains. He often hits people when he’s drunk and forgets the next morning. One day, he made a mistake in Chinna Nambi’s (Shine Tom Chacko) bar and forgot, which changed the lives of his love interest Vennela (Keerthy Suresh) and his friends. Lastly, what mistake was that? The rest of the story is about how far Dharani will go for his Vennala.

Cast & Crew

The film stars Nani, Keerthy Suresh , Sai Kumar, Dheekshith Shetty, Zarina Wahab, Samuthirakani, Shine Tom Chacko Poorna, and others; it was penned by Jella Srinath, Arjuna Paturi, and Vamsi Krishna P and directed by Srikanth Odela, While Sathyan Sooryan handled the cinematography, Santhosh Narayanan created the soundtrack, Navin Nooli handled the editing, and Sudhakar Cherukuri produced the film under the umbrella of SLV Films.

Movie Verdict

They used to tell their stories in Tamil and Malayalam films that were based in their cultures. In Telugu, we are more interested in commercial films than in films with deep roots. Nevertheless, that has entirely changed, and now Telugu filmmakers are producing deep-rooted films such as C/O Kancherapalem, Pushpa, Balagam, and Dasara.

Despite being a typical vengeance action thriller, Dasara’s idea draws you into its universe and makes you a part of it. The Coal Mine setting and advanced Telangana dialect are the film’s greatest strengths. The film begins with a tense, action-packed introduction to Dharani, and then dives into the village of Veerlapalli, where we witness all the important characters’ establishments. The first half’s pacing sags intermittently, but the love story between Dharani and Vennela, the amazing action sequences, and the few comedic bits keep us engrossed in the plot, and the halftime twist is pure pyrotechnics.

Even though the second half is filled with action, the second half becomes emotional and intense. The conflict between Dharani and Vennela is intense and keeps us captivated and moved by emotion. Despite a few weaknesses, Dasara contains numerous points that maintain our interest in the story from beginning to end. Despite Dasara appears to be designed for Telangana residents due to its depiction of Telangana’s culture and way of life, the film’s emotional thread is global and lands well.

Nani is known for playing boy-next-door characters, but he will enchant you with his performance as Dharani, his transformation, and his Telangana phrase delivery in this film. Overall, Nani has delivered a performance deserving of applause, particularly in emotional parts, and he has handled action sequences with confidence. Keerthy Suresh’s portrayal of Vennela is excellent, it has a variety of hues, and she effortlessly pulled it off, however the Telangana accent might have been significantly improved. Dia star Dheekshit Shetty has a strong performance as Soori, while the rest of the actors, including Shine, tried their best. Tom Chacko, Saikumar, Samuthirakani, and Zarina Wahab all did their utmost to fulfill the criteria of the plot.

Srikant Odela, a newcomer, is from the same region shown in the film. The skill with which he combines action and dramatic drama to depict the lives of coal mine workers is truly outstanding. As a first-time director, he performed an excellent job.

Technically, Dasara is excellent; Sathyan Sooryan’s photography is the film’s greatest asset; Santhosh Narayanan is one of the film’s cornerstones; his songs have already topped the charts, and he nailed the background score throughout.

Ultimately, Dasara is a stunning combination of tremendous drama and action.

Dasara Review & Ratings | Hit Or Flop?

Dasara Review: Every actor has to re-invent himself with every movie, but Telugu actors have always sticked to particular mass characters that audience loved to watch. With the change in the mindsets of audience, even Telugu actors are trying to explore some new characters with different backdrop. Actor Nani, who is mostly seen in energetic and comic roles, tried few serious roles as well, but the result of those movies are not as expected. He has now come up with one such serious and mass character from the movie “Dasara.” Let us get into the detailed review of this movie to know if actor Nani is successful in entertaining the audience with a full length mass character.

Dharani (Nani) is a young thug from Veerlapally. He and his friends steal coal and get drunk. Meanwhile Dharani is also in love with Vennela (Keerthy Suresh). One day, Chinna Nambi (Shine Tom Chacko) and his gang put an unexpected blame on Dharani, which makes Dharani beat them up. How did the lives of Dharani, his friend Suri (Dheekshith Shetty) and Vennela changed forever after this incident forms the rest of the story.

“Dasara” movie stars actor Nani in the lead role, while actress Keerthy Suresh played the female lead opposite him. Other prominent roles in the movie are played by Dheekshith Shetty, Shine Tom Chacko, Samuthirakani, Sai Kumar, Shamna Kasim (Poorna), Zarina Wahab.

“Dasara” movie is written and directed by Srikanth Odela. This movie is produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri under Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Cinemas banner. Music of this movie is composed by Santhosh Narayanan and cinematography is handled by Sathyan Sooryan. Naveen Nooli is the the editor.

With the success of movies like KGF and Pushpa nationwide, makers are now started to work on raw and rustic movies that will entertain the mass audience, who are majority while it comes to watching movies in theatres. Before the release of Dasara, it was compared to Pushpa and Rangasthalam movies, but actor Nani confidently said that this movie will be a whole lot different from those movies. Movie is definitely different from the other two movies, but also missed the emotional connect as both those movies.

Dasara movie begins interestingly and first half of the movie takes some time to establish the main characters and their life style. Most of these scenes might connect with the people from Karimnagar (especially Godavarikhani). Interval scenes create some interest towards the second half. But the later half looks little dragged with so much of drama added between the characters and all these scenes may not create any emotional impact and climax of the movie is unexpected, but good.

While it comes to acting performances, it is good to see actor Nani in such mass role with rugged look. He excelled once again as an actor in his role and made the character look very natural on screen. He is exceptional in emotional scenes. Keerthy Suresh was good, but she looked like struggling with her Telangana dialect. Dheekshith Shetty grabbed a good role in the movie and he is okay. Shine Tom Chacko is brilliant and perfectly suited the role. Samuthirakani, Sai Kumar and all other actors did their part well as required for their characters.

Technically Dasara movie looks good. Songs composed by Santosh Narayanan are excellent. People will surely enjoy “Chamkeela Angelesi” and “Ori Vaari” songs in theatre and there is another song that has to be watched in theatres only. Background music is another asset for the movie. Cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan is decent and he was successful in creating the rustic mood required for the story. Production values are good, expect for few poor VFX shots.

Direct Srikanth Odela tried to showcase the rawness and reality of Telangana with some characters that look realistic. But he could have concentrated a little on the later half of the movie to make it more interesting.

Overall, Dasara is a raw and rustic movie that looks special with exceptional performance from actor Nani.

Dasara box office: Nani’s blockbuster grosses Rs 100 crore worldwide, becomes actor’s biggest ever hit as leading man

Nani’s latest film Dasara has passed the Rs 100 crore gross mark at the worldwide box office, producers SLV Cinemas announced on Thursday, just as the film completed a week since release. Mounted as a pan-Indian film, Dasara arrived in the wake of big south Indian hits such as Pushpa: The Rise and KGF: Chapter 2. Leading up to its release, Dasara was compared to both those films, but Nani dismissed these comparisons .

It should be noted that the traditional marker of box office success is Rs 100 crore nett in India. Going by this metric, industry tracker Sacnilk reports that the film has made under Rs 65 crore. This is just marginally ahead of Ajay Devgn’s Bholaa, which was also released on the same day, and has since grossed Rs 72 crore worldwide. Bholaa’s nett domestic total is Rs 56 crore.

The Rs 100 crore worldwide gross is a personal record for Nani, whose previously starred as a lead in MCA and Gang Leader, both of which made around Rs 70 crore worldwide. Nani also starred in SS Rajamouli’s Eega, which made more than Rs 125 crore worldwide, but was led by Kichcha Sudeepa.

Dasara is a period action film directed by debutant Srikanth Odela, and is set against the backdrop of the Singareni coal mines in Telangana . The film also stars Keerthy Suresh, Dheekshith Shetty, Shine Tom Chacko, Samuthirakani, Sai Kumar and Poorna, and reportedly cost Rs 65 crore to produce. Sacnilk said that the film should hit the break even mark within a week of release, and can therefore be declared as a ‘clean hit’. Hindustan Times reported prior to the film’s release that the producers had sold its theatrical and digital rights for over ₹29 crore and ₹48 crore, respectively.

Bollywood actor Swara Bhasker spoke out against trolling for her interfaith marriage and predicted backlash for the upcoming interfaith wedding of Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal. She highlighted the issue of "love jihad" in India, and said that the debate will persist despite changing times.

Carrying with the humongous expectations, the film has finally been released today and without wasting much time, let’s get into the in-depth review and find out whether the film is worth watching or not.

Dasara depicts the story of Veerlapalli located in the Godavarikani coal mines, where Dharani( Nani) steals coal from goods trains, and he has a habit of hitting everyone after being drunk and forgets the next day in the morning, on the other side Dhaarani loves Vennela since childhood but Vennela loves Soori and Veerlaaapalli sarpanch elections drastically changed their lives. Dharani, Vennela and Soori’s journey is all about Dasara.

Movie Verdict

Back then we got to see rooted films in Tamil and Malayalam, they used to tell their stories. In Telugu, we are much into commercial films rather than deep-rooted films, but now things have changed completely, Telugu makers are coming up with deep-rooted films like C/O Kancherapalem, Pushpa, and recent sensation Balagam and now Dasara.

Despite the regular revenge action drama, Dasara pulls you into the world of Dasara and makes you part of it with its premise. The biggest advantage of the film is the Coal Mine backdrop and deeper Telangana dialect. The film starts off with an explosive introduction of Dharani with nerve-wracking action, later it dives into Veerlapalli village and there we get to see all the key characters’ establishments. The first half pace dips here and there but it keeps us invested in the story with Dharani and Vennela’s love track, brilliant action blocks, and few comedy scenes, the interval twist is just fireworks.

The second half becomes emotional and intense, though the second half is filled with action, although the drama between Dharani and Vennela is intense and it keeps us engaged and moves us with the emotion. Despite the few flaws Dasara has many moments that keep us invested in the story from beginning to end. Though Dasara looks like it is made for Telangana people because it shows the perfect Telangana culture and their lifestyle, the emotional thread in the film is universal and that lands perfectly in the film.

Talking about performance, Nani is known for the boy next door roles but he will mesmerize you with his performance in the film, as Dharani, his makeover, and his Telangana dialogue delivery are perfect. Especially in emotional scenes he just killed it, and he performed in action sequences with ease, overall Nani has given a clap-worthy performance. Keerthy Suresh as Vennela is superb, it has many shades and she effortlessly pulled it off, but the Telangana dialect could have been much better. Dia fame Dheekshit Shetty has got good character and as Soori he did his best and the rest of the cast like Shine Tom Chacko did his best, Saikumar, Samuthirakani, and Zarina Wahab did their best as per the story requirements.

Debutant Srikant Odela hails from the same area which has shown in the film. He succeeded in bringing the lives of coal mine laborers, the way he blends action and intense drama is quite impressive. Being a debut director he did an impressive job.

Technically, Dasara looks top-notch, Sathyan Sooryan’s cinematography is the biggest plus point for the film, Santhosh Narayanan is the of the major pillars of the film, his songs have already chartbusters and he just killed it with his background score throughout the film.

Overall, Dasara is a beautiful blend of intense drama with action.

Dasara is having a fantastic theatrical run at the box office ever since it hit theatres last week. The film earned Rs 100 crore worldwide in just six days and is still going strong at the box office. On its eighth day, the film is estimated to have earned Rs 2 crore in India (nett). Dasara is an upcoming 2023 Indian Telugu-language action drama film written and directed by Sukumar’s protégé Srikanth Odela in his directorial debut: Nani and Keerthi Suresh ( Instagram)  star. The film is set in the Singareni coal mines in Telangana, close to Godavarikhani. Richard Linklater has had an interesting career, to say the least. While fellow ‘90s independent directors like Gus Van Sant and Larry Clark largely turned their back on the mainstream, a look back on Richard Linklater’s best movies proves that he never stopped moving between ambitious indie efforts and more accessible fare. For every School of Rock that Linklater directed, there is a project like A Scanner Darkly .

This makes the success of Glen Powell’s Hit Man all the more impressive. A dark romantic comedy co-written by Linklater and Powell, Hit Man adapts an article by journalist Skip Hollandsworth for the screen. Hit Man tells the story of Powell’s Gary Johnson, a tech specialist who goes undercover as a fake hitman for the New Orleans police. Gary’s work as a fake hitman eventually lands him in some real trouble when he falls for the latest target of a sting operation, a woman who needs protection. This sets up Hit Man ’s surprisingly sweet ending .

When Hit Man proved a huge critical success upon its release, the Linklater movie redeemed one of the director’s forgotten efforts. 2011’s Bernie was another dark comedy directed by Richard Linklater, also critically acclaimed for its dark sense of humor and offbeat view of Americana, and also based on an article by Skip Hollandsworth. Despite these similarities, it is perhaps not too shocking that Bernie didn’t win over the mainstream audience that Hit Man enjoyed upon its Netflix release. After all, the Jack Black comedy concerned itself with a real-life elderly woman’s murder .

As wild as it may sound, Bernie managed to wring a surprisingly funny, poignant movie out of the real-life story of Bernhardt Tiede. Tiede was a small-town mortician who murdered the elderly millionaire Marjorie Nugent but was defended by many inhabitants of his small town due to his affable manner and Nugent’s unpopularity within the community. While Hit Man ’s assassin story is dark, the plot isn’t quite as grim as Bernie ’s shocking true story. Linklater gets a lot of guilty laughs from Bernie ’s unlikely events, but the movie never resonated with audiences because its tone was a tough sell.

Bernie fared well with critics, much like Hit Man ’s stellar reviews proved Linklater’s reliability. However, Bernie couldn't replicate Hit Man 's audience success, earning only a disappointing $10 million at the box office.

Copilot+ laptops are ‘not usable’ in one key area, reviews say

The day is finally here. Copilot+ laptops are available for sale, and we already have a handful of reviews making the rounds. The devices, packing the new Snapdragon X Elite chip , have been described as “amazing” and a turning point for Windows laptops. Once you step outside the bounds of the Qualcomm chip, however, Copilot+ PCs are “not usable.”

Those are the words Dave2D used to describe playing  Overwatch 2  on the Asus Vivobook S 15, which is the only device we’ve seen reviews on so far. He’s not alone in that sentiment, and after digging through a few reviews, Dave2D’s video is easily the most favorable. Despite that, all of the reviews I’ve seen so far agree that gaming — and emulation as a whole — on the Snapdragon X Elite just doesn’t make the cut.

It’s a bit shocking considering gaming was such a key highlight of Qualcomm’s new chips. Make no mistake, these aren’t gaming laptops , but the promise of playable performance on the go was enticing. Even by that standard, Copilot+ laptops struggle. “If it’s been compiled for ARM, the experience is great,” Matthew Moniz said in his video review. “But the moment you move over to an x86 app, depending on how demanding it is, that’s when things start to change.”

Let’s back up for just a moment. The Snapdragon X Elite uses the Arm instruction set architecture (ISA), while the vast majority of Windows apps are written for the x86 ISA. When an x86 app sends instructions to the Snapdragon X Elite, it doesn’t know what to do with them. Those x86 instructions aren’t in its playbook of Arm instructions. To solve this problem, Microsoft developed Prism, which translates those x86 instructions to Arm instructions. There’s always a bit of overhead with translating instructions like this, but the promise was that there wouldn’t be a massive hit to performance.

Dave2D says that Prism works well, at least for some apps. Talking about Premiere Pro, the YouTuber said: “Even in emulation mode, and this is the thing that blew me away, [Premiere Pro] is completely usable.”

Other reviews weren’t as positive. TechTablets showed that the Snapdragon X Elite took more than twice as long to encode a video from Premiere Pro as Intel’s recent Meteor Lake CPUs. Matthew Moniz agreed, saying: “I was playing with Adobe Premiere Pro. Like, I could totally load it up, use it, and make a couple of edits. The experience wasn’t superfast, and it really got bogged down when it came to any sort of GPU-based effects.”

Premiere Pro doesn’t have a native ARM version yet, but Moniz also tried DaVinci Resolve, which does have a native ARM version. Although the YouTuber said timeline performance was much better than Premiere, the issues with GPU-based effects still presented themselves.

And that’s one area where all three of these reviews agree: the GPU in the Snapdragon X Elite struggles, and games show that off in a big way.

Gaming hits Copilot+ PCs hard according to this first batch of reviews. How hard? Well, Moniz says that “you’re losing a lot of performance, like, 50% of performance.” TechTablets agreed and showcased The Witcher 3  struggling to run on the Vivobook S 15 with constant stuttering. “It’s clear to me, this should be doing at least twice the frame rate,” the YouTuber said. And, of course, Dave2D described the chip as “not usable” when talking about playing  Overwatch 2  competitively.

It looks like there are two factors at play. One is the weaker GPU, which showed up in Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, but also the Prism translation. Stuttering was a common theme, from  The Witcher 3  to  Overwatch 2  to Balder’s Gate 3, but some of the problems go much deeper.

Moniz pointed to  Diablo IV,  saying it would crash with a Prism error, and that Fortnite  wouldn’t load at all. There were also some strange limitations. Moniz discovered that players are forced to run in Windowed mode in Overwatch 2,  and that the resolution was capped at 1,200 x 800. Even in  Dirt 5,  which is supposedly optimized for Arm, the YouTuber said he only achieved 19 frames per second (fps).

What’s concerning is that most of these games  should  work. Microsoft supports a database of games that should work on Arm. Overwatch 2  has a “Perfect” rating, while  Diablo IV  achieved the “Runs” status.  The Witcher 3  is considered “Playable.” Based on this first batch of reviews, none of these games seem playable due to crashing, low performance, and stutters.

The bigger issue is compatibility overall, however. The big apps like Premiere Pro should work, but Moniz pointed to smaller apps that might not. The YouTuber brought up examples like an audio interface, or some other external accessory that requires its own app. “It might work, it might not,” he said. That’s a big gamble if you have additional hardware you need to plug into your PC.

Although graphics performance is disappointing, the main draw of Copilot+ laptops holds up. All three YouTubers showed benchmarks of the Snapdragon X Elite not only matching the competition from AMD and Intel, but often exceeding it. Moniz particularly highlighted performance away from the charger. Most Windows laptops give up a ton of performance when unplugged, but with the Snapdragon X Elite, the YouTuber says the drop was less than 5%.

Battery life holds up as well. Although none of the reviews I looked at said the chip can outpace a MacBook Pro , all of them showed battery life much  closer to Apple than any of the x86 competition. “In my usage of the laptop, this thing lasts and lasts,” Zac Bowden of Windows Central wrote .

There are some stumbles out of the gate, but Copilot+ laptops are still off to a strong start. Dave2D summed up his experience by saying: “The Snapdragon X Elite chip really defines what the Windows laptop experience can be.” It’s not perfect, mind you, but it seems we’re on the cusp of the Windows on Arm future that we’ve heard about for years.

It’s also important to note that this is the floor for the Snapdragon X Elite. As Prism gets updates and more developers shift over to Arm the experience will improve. What’s important here is that Qualcomm managed to nail CPU performance and offer big improvements to battery life. Elsewhere, the improvements can come through software.

Now, you likely noticed that I haven’t mentioned AI once in all of this talk about Copilot+ laptops, which is a bit strange given how big of a feature AI is for these devices. Reviews didn’t touch much on AI, either. The defining AI feature of Copilot+, Recall, has been delayed . You can buy a Copilot+ laptop now, but you’ll have to wait for Microsoft to release its AI software.

Microsoft's big Copilot+ announcement last week was certainly impressive. Combining both an embrace of AI and Arm, it went along way toward not just catching up with MacBooks -- but actually surpassing them.

Microsoft claims that it won't save your phone number for anything other than verification, but it's needed because the service is currently unavailable for anyone in the EU, at least for now. If anyone in the EU tries to access it, they will be blocked.

The Lonely Island had to 'disavow' Hot Rod for years after it flopped: 'There were some rough times'

Not even the Lonely Island 's ancestors could've protected them from the reaction they faced after their 2007 movie Hot Rod flopped at the box office. 

The comedy trio — composed of members Andy Samberg , Jorma Taccone , and Akiva Schaffer — recently revealed that they had to downplay and poke fun at their lighthearted stuntman comedy for years after it made just $5.3 million back of its $25 million budget on its opening weekend.

"There was a couple years though where it was not a big punchline, but where if it came up, you had to disavow it," Schaffer said on the latest episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast . "Like, even on talk shows, you'd have to, like, really make sure you made fun of it before they did kind of a thing."

Samberg didn't quite feel the same way, however. "You'd have to talk about that it made no money. We always stood by it creatively, though,” he pointed out, pausing when Schaffer made an unsure noise. "No?"

"So-so," Schaffer replied. "I think there were some rough times where we did." 

Seth Meyers , who wrote several jokes for the film, also noted that "people love it when a movie that feels like an SNL movie doesn't work" in general, to which they all agreed.

Taccone added, "[It's] exactly what happened with MacGruber — it's the exact same thing."

Produced by Lorne Michaels , Hot Rod follows amateur stuntman Rod Kimble (Samberg) as he performs a series of hilariously bad stunts in order to afford life-saving surgery for his stepfather, Frank (Ian McShane), so that he can beat him up and earn his respect. The comedy boasts a star-studded cast that includes fellow Saturday Night Live alum Bill Hader as well as Isla Fisher, Danny McBride, Sissy Spacek, and Will Arnett. 

Reviews comparing Hot Rod to Napoleon Dynamite and Jackass also complicated its release. "A lot of people being like, 'It wants to be like Napoleon Dynamite , but it's not,'" Samberg recalled. "And we were like, 'We weren't trying to do that. We were trying to do those other movies [previously mentioned in the episode, like Road House ].'"

Schaffer added that Hot Rod being compared to Jackass was particularly funny because professional stunts were "not our thing" and not what they were trying to evoke with Rod's shenanigans. He noted, "The Jackass and the Napoleon Dynamite  — you needed a bunch of years to where nobody would think about that stuff, because it has nothing to do with 'em."

It took a few years, Schaffer said, but Hot Rod eventually found its people after it was put on Netflix. "I think that was four or five years after it came out, because it was on HBO or whatever and Comedy Central for a while," he said. "And then when it got on Netflix is when I noticed it shift in a bigger way."

Daniel Radcliffe is one of the world’s most famous actors. But he’s never won a major award. Until now.

Radcliffe won the Tony Award for best performance by an actor in a featured role in a musical, for his work in the smash hit revival of “ Merrily We Roll Along .” The show is Radcliffe’s fifth on Broadway, but the first for which he was even nominated for a Tony, despite mostly admiring reviews all along the way.

Radcliffe, 34, will forever be known as the actor who played the title wizard in all eight “Harry Potter” films. But even before shooting of those films concluded, he had begun making the adventurous choices — onstage and onscreen — that have helped him accomplish the rare transition from child star to respected adult actor.

In “Merrily,” Radcliffe plays Charley Kringas, a lyricist-turned-playwright whose long friendship and collaboration with a talented composer (a character named Franklin Shepard, played by Jonathan Groff) has imploded.

Radcliffe’s enormous star power is a significant factor in the success of this production, which promises to forever alter how “Merrily” is viewed because the show’s original production, in 1981, was a storied flop.

Radcliffe has been with the production since 2022, when he played the same role, with the same co-stars, during an Off Broadway run at the nonprofit New York Theater Workshop. The Broadway production opened last October , and is scheduled to conclude on July 7.

He has repeatedly shown a willingness to try new things. Radcliffe first arrived on Broadway in 2008, starring in a revival of “ Equus ” that required him to appear nude ; his next role, in a 2011 revival of the musical “ How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying ,” required him to sing.

He has since returned to Broadway to star in two more plays, “ The Cripple of Inishmaan ” in 2014 and “ The Lifespan of a Fact ” in 2018, and he also starred in an Off Broadway play, “ Privacy ,” in 2016 at the Public Theater.

He has continued to make movies, many of them indie-ish projects including “ Kill Your Darlings ,” “ Swiss Army Man ” and “ Weird: The Al Yankovic Story .”

In an interview last month, two days after being nominated for the Tony Award, Radcliffe said that he keeps returning to the stage “because I love it.”

“There’s something thrilling about doing something that scares you, live, a bit, every night,” he said. “And just the connection with the audience — being in a room full of people and feeling them react to the story. We’re very lucky it’s such an emotional show: There’s a lot laughs, and there’s a lot of comedy, but you can also hear people being emotionally affected by it towards the end, and that’s a very rewarding thing to be a part of.”
