If I was a president of South Africa...

I would firstly require my ministers to have a minimum degree qualification, preferably in science discipline, like engineering, natural sciences, business and commerce. So called "political scientists" and those with "humanities" degrees are not scientists. They are not trained to solve problems, they are trained to debate, so they are naturally ill-equipped to solve the country's problems.

I would scrap BEE and all "transformation" policies that require people to be employed based on race. These policies do not encourage entrepreneurship and innovation. What they do encourage is a sense of entitlement, hence the never ending public sector strikes that are facilitated by union officials with no clue of economics.Changing of street/town names will not be accepted in my administration.

I would make it law that anyone found guilty of murder and/or rape get automatic life-sentences..without any possibility of parole. Anyone found guilty of car-jacking, house-breaking, shoplifting gets 20yr life sentences, also no parole. Any government official found guilty of corruption of ANY kind, gets a life sentence (so Selebi would be rotting in jail now under my watch). You see laws are the only deterrent we have and while I personally would prefer the death penalty for murders and rapists, I realize this may not sit well with the majority of the population. This is where I would institute a referendum to decide if death penalty is suitable or not. The so called "Modimolle Monster" would be dead if I had any say in it.

I would encourage retired teachers, policemen and women, firefighters, paramedics, nurses, lecturers etc to come out retirement and teach at training centres that I would open in all major towns. These people are a valuable resource and the country could use their help. I would open 5 more universities and research institutions whose specialty will range from bio-chemistry, physics, earth sciences, engineering, etc.

In all government departments, salary increases and bonuses are not guaranteed. I would have a performance based system (similar to how private business does) where everyone is rewarded for hard work. If I find for instance that textbooks were burnt, the minister of education and everyone in her management gets fired and the entire department workers DO NOT receive any bonuses or salary increases.

I would make it law that primary, secondary, and high-school pupils do not have to pay school fees. Education is not a privileged, it is a right. An unemployed parent in Gugulethu cannot be expected to pay fees she doesn't have. The best performing matric students (those with A's in Math and Science) with no money will get their university studies funded.

I would encourage foreign direct investment in SA economy by lowering the corporate tax. In doing that I would require that these foreign companies have 50% of their staff be South African nationals who are qualified to do the job. Additionally I would require that these corporations sponsor a number of university graduates, the number of which is determined by the profit margin of the company.

Do you think I could make a good president? I think so!
