Before we begin, remember that a well-crafted resume can set you apart in the job market. Follow these steps to ensure your resume is professional and ready to impress.

Step 1: Choose a Resume Builder App

Download a reputable resume builder app from the App Store.

There are many resume builder apps available, so look for one with high ratings and good reviews. Some popular options include LinkedIn, Resume Star, and PathSource Resume.

Step 2: Select a Template

Choose a template that suits your industry and personal style.

A good template will have a clean, easy-to-read layout. Think about the impression you want to make on a hiring manager and select a template that reflects that.

Step 3: Fill in Your Information

Input your personal details, work experience, education, and skills.

Be honest and clear about your experience. Use bullet points and action verbs to describe your previous job duties and achievements.

Your resume should reflect your personality but remain professional. Stick to traditional fonts like Arial or Times New Roman and use color sparingly.

Ask a friend or family member to review your resume as well. A second set of eyes can catch mistakes you might have missed.

Save your resume to your iPhone and share it directly with employers or through job application platforms.

Most resume builder apps will allow you to save your resume as a PDF or a Word document. Always choose PDF to ensure the formatting stays intact when opened by the employer.

After completing these steps, you’ll have a professional resume ready to help you land your dream job. The convenience of creating and sending your resume directly from your iPhone makes the job application process easier than ever.

Creating an Efficient Layout for Your Resume on your iPhone

When it comes to creating an efficient layout for your resume on your iPhone, there are a few key things to keep in mind. First and foremost, you want to make sure that your resume is easy to read and navigate. This means organizing your information in a clear and concise manner, using headings and subheadings to break up the content, and utilizing bullet points to highlight your achievements.

One of the best ways to create an efficient layout for your resume on your iPhone is by using a template or pre-designed format. There are many apps available that offer ready-made resume templates specifically designed for mobile devices. These templates often have built-in sections for different parts of your resume such as contact information, work experience, education, skills, and references. By using these templates as a starting point, you can easily customize them with your own information while ensuring that the overall layout remains clean and professional.

In addition to using a template or pre-designed format, another important aspect of creating an efficient layout for your resume on your iPhone is choosing the right font size and style. You want to select a font that is clear and legible even on smaller screens. Avoid using overly decorative or hard-to-read fonts as they can distract from the content of your resume.

Lastly, don’t forget about visual elements such as spacing and alignment. It’s important to leave enough white space between sections so that each piece of information stands out independently. Additionally, aligning text properly will give it a polished look and make it easier for hiring managers or recruiters who may be reviewing resumes on their iPhones.

By following these tips – organizing information effectively with headings/subheadings/bullet points/formatting/alignment/choosing appropriate font size/style/templates -, you can create an efficient layout for their resumes on iPhones without compromising readability or professionalism.

Polishing and Saving Your Resume Using iPhone Features

So you’re on the hunt for a new job, and you’ve finally finished crafting your resume. But wait, before you hit that send button and unleash it into the world, have you considered polishing it up using your trusty iPhone? That’s right folks, our beloved pocket-sized device isn’t just for sending emojis and scrolling through social media feeds – it can also be a powerful tool to make your resume shine!

First things first, let’s talk about formatting. Remember how important first impressions are? Well, the same goes for resumes. With the help of your iPhone’s Notes app or any other word processing application available in the App Store (there are plenty of great ones out there), you can easily create a clean and professional-looking document. Use bold tags to emphasize key sections like “Work Experience” or “Skills,” ensuring that potential employers can quickly see what sets you apart from other candidates.

Now that we’ve tackled formatting let’s move on to another crucial aspect: spelling and grammar. We all know how embarrassing those pesky typos can be – they can instantly turn off hiring managers who are looking for attention to detail! Fear not though because with built-in features like autocorrect and spell check on your iPhone keyboard, spotting those sneaky errors has never been easier. Take advantage of them by proofreading your resume meticulously before hitting submit.

Lastly but certainly not least is adding some flair to make yourself really stand out! Grabbing someone’s attention amongst a pile of resumes is no easy feat these days. But fret not dear job-seeker because thanks to modern technology, there are various ways to inject creativity into this fairly standardized document.

Consider using bullet lists in HTML format within appropriate sections such as Education or Achievements – these will break up long blocks of text while still conveying information effectively. And hey, why stop at words when multimedia elements like hyperlinks could be utilized too? If relevant, include clickable links to your online portfolio or LinkedIn profile. It adds that extra touch of professionalism and shows potential employers you are tech-savvy.

So there you have it – a brief guide on how to polish and save your resume using the fantastic features of your iPhone. With its formatting capabilities, spelling and grammar checks, as well as opportunities for creativity, this little device can truly make a difference in helping you land that dream job. Now go ahead, put those fingertips to work and let your resume shine!

How to Save Your Resume on Your Phone (and Apply for Jobs!)

Want to save your resume on your phone, so you can easily apply for jobs on the go? Here's how to do it.

If you're currently searching for work, you should have a copy of your resume on your mobile phone. When you always have access to your professional information, you look more coordinated. It also lets you respond to job postings even when you can’t access your computer.

Read on to learn how to store your resume and apply for jobs from your phone.

1. How to Save a Resume to Your Phone

It’s best to save your resume as a PDF, since many job-searching websites require this format. Using a PDF file type also ensures that the resume will look the same no matter what program it’s loaded in.

Once you have it saved, you need to send it to the phone. You can do this in a few different ways.

1. Use Cloud Storage

The easiest way to access your resume from a phone is to use cloud storage. If you use a service like Dropbox , then you can access the file through the mobile app.

Download : Dropbox for Android | iOS (Free, subscriptions available)

2. Use Bluetooth

Another way to send the resume to your phone is to use Bluetooth. You have to start by enabling Bluetooth connections on your phone and computer . Then, put your phone in discovery mode.

Next, go to Windows Settings > Bluetooth and other devices and select the phone from the list of devices. Once paired, you can select send a file from the Bluetooth Options in the system tray. Make sure to accept the files from your phone, or the transfer won’t be completed.

3. Use the Charging Cable for Android Smartphones

You can also connect using your phone’s charging cable. Start by plugging your phone into one of your computer’s USB ports. You may see a dialog box asking what to do with it. When you see the dialog, select Open Files . Then you can click and drag the resume from your computer into your phone’s storage.

If you don’t see a dialog, find your phone using Windows Explorer. Go to This PC , and you should see your phone appear on the list of drives. If not, you might need to troubleshoot the connection between your phone and computer .

2. Update Your Resume From Your Phone

Another benefit of keeping your resume in your phone is that you can make updates on the go. This is helpful for when you want to fine-tune your resume for a specific position.

Save a copy of your resume to your phone as a .docx or other editable file types. Then, you can edit that copy and export it as a PDF, saving over the old version. You could also edit the PDF directly through a PDF editing app.

Adobe Acrobat is a good option, but you need a premium subscription to unlock PDF editing. Adobe offers a free trial to help you decide if it's worth subscribing to.

Download: Adobe Acrobat for Android | iOS (Free, subscription available)

3. Apply to Jobs From Your Phone

Most application websites will ask you to upload your resume as a file. When you press the upload button, you can access the file you saved in step one. You can make sure you are uploading the correct file by previewing it. To preview, tap the expansion icon. It looks like four arrows pointing outward in the corner of the thumbnail.

For job sites that have you fill out a form, you can copy and paste from your .docx or other document file types. In most cases, the pasted information will convert to plain text. So you don't need to worry about formatting.

Enjoy Fast Access to Your Resume

You may not think of your phone as a professional device, but it’s a great place to store your resume. Having it close lets you customize, save, and send your resume as soon as you get an offer, even if you're not at home.

You can optimize your job search even further by using a specialized job-finding app.

How to Use the iPhone to Create and Edit Your Resume

Unlocking the power of your iphone for resume crafting.

In today’s fast-paced world, having a polished resume ready to go at a moment’s notice can be the key to unlocking your next career opportunity. With the iPhone’s advanced capabilities, you’re carrying a powerful tool in your pocket that can help you create, edit, and share your resume on the fly. This article will guide you through the process of using your iPhone to craft a professional-looking resume that stands out from the crowd.

Getting Started with Resume Building Apps

Before diving into the specifics, it’s important to choose the right app for your resume-building needs. The App Store offers a variety of options, from dedicated resume builders to versatile document editors. Here are some popular choices:

  • Microsoft Word : A familiar and powerful word processor that’s great for resume creation.
  • Pages : Apple’s own word processor that’s optimized for iOS devices.
  • Resume Star : A dedicated app that guides you through the process of creating a resume.
  • LinkedIn : Allows you to convert your LinkedIn profile into a resume format.

Once you’ve selected an app, download it from the App Store and familiarize yourself with its interface and features. Most apps will offer templates and guides to help you get started.

Choosing the Right Template

Templates are a great starting point for creating a professional resume. They provide a structure that you can easily customize with your own information. When selecting a template, consider the following:

  • The job or industry you’re applying for: Different fields may require different resume styles.
  • Design and layout: Look for a clean, readable design that makes good use of white space.
  • Customization options: Ensure the template allows you to adjust sections and formatting as needed.

Experiment with a few templates to see which one best suits your personal style and professional brand.

Inputting Your Information

With a template in place, it’s time to fill in your details. Here’s how to approach each section of your resume:

Personal Information

Start with your name, contact information, and a professional email address. Make sure this information is prominently displayed at the top of your resume.

Objective or Summary Statement

Craft a brief statement that highlights your career goals and what you bring to the table. Tailor this to each job application for maximum impact.

Work Experience

List your previous roles in reverse chronological order. Include your job title, the company name, dates of employment, and bullet points detailing your responsibilities and achievements.

Include your highest level of education, along with any relevant certifications or training. If you’re a recent graduate, you may want to place this section before your work experience.

Highlight both hard and soft skills that are relevant to the job you’re applying for. Be specific and include any technical proficiencies or languages you speak.

Additional Sections

Depending on your background, you may want to include sections for awards, publications, volunteer work, or projects. Only add sections that add value to your resume and relate to the job.

Editing and Formatting Your Resume

Once your information is in place, it’s time to fine-tune your resume. Pay attention to the following:

  • Consistency : Ensure that your formatting is consistent throughout the document. This includes font sizes, headings, and bullet points.
  • Spacing : Use white space effectively to make your resume easy to read.
  • Keywords : Incorporate keywords from the job description to make your resume more ATS-friendly.

Remember to proofread your resume carefully. Spelling and grammar mistakes can be a red flag for potential employers.

Using Advanced Editing Features

To make your resume stand out, consider using advanced editing features such as:

  • Tables : For organizing information neatly (e.g., a table for technical skills).
  • Charts : To visually represent data or achievements (e.g., sales growth).
  • Images : If relevant, such as a professional headshot or company logos.

However, use these features sparingly and only when they add real value to your resume.

Exporting and Sharing Your Resume

When your resume is ready, you’ll want to export it in a format that’s widely accepted and easy to share. PDF is typically the best choice, as it preserves your formatting and is readable on any device. Most resume-building apps on the iPhone will have an option to export or share your document as a PDF.

To share your resume, you can use email, messaging apps, or even upload it directly to job portals or networking sites like LinkedIn.

Keeping Your Resume Updated

Your resume should be a living document that you update regularly. With your iPhone, you can easily make quick edits whenever you gain new experience, skills, or certifications. This ensures that you’re always ready to seize new opportunities as they arise.

How To Make Resume On iPhone

How To Make Resume On iPhone

Writing a resume can be a science as well as an art form. It takes a person to utilize specific tools to create content for securing a job. In this day and age, the internet has taken over many primitive forms of data processing and handling and a resume is not an exception.

LinkedIn and online portfolios are rampant in applying for gigs and jobs and connecting with recruiters. It is fairly easy to send and handle for both applicants and hiring managers. Still, with the ease and dynamic nature of modern modes of applications, the old-fashioned resume is not just out yet.

For writing a resume, it takes compatible hardware and software – in the forms of a laptop, PC, tablet, or a smartphone and a word processing tool to write and format a resume.

In this article, we will go through;

  • What is a resume
  • Tips on how to compose an impressive resume
  • iPhone apps to build a resume

What Is A Resume?

In simple terms, a resume is a formal document that applicants use to apply for a job . It highlights relevant academic qualifications, experience, skills, and any other detail that could help recruiters in picking a candidate over others for a role.

In most cases, it is coupled with a cover letter that can shed light on the elements that were mentioned in the resume but detailed in the cover letter.

The rationale behind turning in a resume is to provide a summary of professional life to employers so that they can make a better decision in hiring the right candidate for the job.

Following are some of the essential elements of a resume:

  • Contact Details
  • Introduction
  • Academic Qualifications
  • Work History
  • Relevant Skills
  • Accolades & Accomplishments
  • References & Endorsements

Types of Resumes

A resume is not something true across all individuals working across all formats. Cases and needs are depending on the job description and role expectations concerning the abilities of a candidate. That’s why there is more than one type of resume. In this section, we will take a look at the four most common types of resumes .

Chronological Resume

This is one of the most common types of resumes used by professionals. It starts with an introduction and then chalks out relevant academic qualifications or work experience in descending order ( the most relevant will go at the top).

This type of resume is versatile and offers a smart way to house maximum information in a small space.

Functional Resume

Contrary to chronological resumes, functional resumes revolve around the special skills and abilities of candidates in a way that their work experience becomes almost irrelevant.

In these resumes, aspirants often cover for job gaps or career changes because previous experience often becomes obsolete in this regard.

  • The introduction and skills section in functional resumes are more detailed than in other resume types
  • The work experience or practical experience section does not capture the spotlight

Targeted Resume

Targeted resumes – as the name suggests – are composed and optimized around specific positions in organizations. While it is always ideal for aspirants to tailor their resumes around a specific job , they often suffice in terms of focus and content for a large category of jobs.

Like functional resumes, targeted resumes also highlight specific abilities and skills of candidates and make sure that they are noticed by hiring managers based on their virtues.

Combination Resume

It is not a specific type of resume per se, because any combination of the three above-mentioned resumes will yield a combination resume. So, whether you want to highlight skills or in chronological order, it is best to have a go at a combination resume.

Pro Tips For Writing A Winning Resume

After going through the nature of a resume, it is best to go for a resume that combines all the best practices and then some of the winning sides and manifest them to get callbacks.

In this spirit, the following are some practical tips to write a resume:

  • It takes around half a minute for an employer to scan through a resume, so it should be concise and clear
  • Proofreading and editing are a must to iron out kinks and issues from a resume
  • Fine-tuning your resume to meet the job requirements of a special position can improve the odds of an interview call
  • Highlighting the virtues and mere mentioning the shortcomings, if any, can put you in the A-game
  • Quantifying achievements instead of describing them allows the recruiters to visualize the potential in a much better and more potent way

Is It Possible To Create A Resume On iPhone?

how to do a resume on my iphone

With the rise of mobile technology, there’s no doubt that job hunting has become more convenient and accessible than ever. Gone are the days when you have to print out your resume and cover letter before heading out to submit them to potential employers.

Nowadays, you can easily store your resume on your phone and apply for jobs with just a few taps. But with so many different file types and apps to choose from, it can be confusing to know where to start. That’s why we’ve put together this guide on how to save and submit your resume using your mobile device.

1. Choose the right file format

Before you can save your resume on your phone, you need to make sure that it’s in the right file format. Most employers prefer PDF or Word documents, so make sure that your resume is saved in one of these formats.

If you’re using a resume builder app or website, it may already offer the option to download your resume as a PDF or Word document. If not, you can easily convert your existing resume using online tools or apps designed for this purpose.

2. Save your resume to the cloud

Saving your resume to the cloud offers several benefits. First of all, it ensures that your resume is always accessible, no matter where you are or what device you’re using. It also makes it easy to share your resume with potential employers or recruiters.

There are plenty of cloud-based storage options to choose from, but some of the most popular ones include Google Drive, Dropbox, and iCloud. These platforms all offer mobile apps, so you can easily access and edit your documents on the go.

3. Use a job search app

Job search apps are a great way to find new job opportunities while you’re on the go. Many of these apps also allow you to apply for jobs directly from your phone, which can save you a lot of time and hassle.

Some popular job search apps include Indeed, Glassdoor, Monster, and ZipRecruiter. These platforms allow you to upload your resume and apply for jobs in just a few clicks. They also often offer features like job alerts and the ability to save your favorite job listings.

4. Apply directly through employer websites

Many employers now allow you to apply for jobs directly through their websites, and this is another option for submitting your resume using your phone. Simply navigate to the “Careers” or “Jobs” section of the employer’s website, and look for the option to upload your resume.

Make sure to read the instructions carefully, as some employers may have specific requirements for the file format or file size of your resume. You may also need to create an account or provide additional information before you can submit your application. 5. Get creative with your resume design

One of the advantages of using your phone to submit your resume is that you have access to a wide range of apps and tools that can help you create a visually appealing document. Consider using graphic design or resume building apps to create a unique and eye-catching resume that will stand out to potential employers.

Just remember to keep your design professional and easy to read, and avoid using too many graphics or colors that could distract from your content.

In conclusion, saving and submitting your resume using your phone is easy and convenient, thanks to the many apps and tools available today. By selecting the right file format, saving your resume to the cloud, using job search apps, applying directly through employer websites, and getting creative with your design, you can increase your chances of landing your dream job.

How to upload your resume to a job application using your iPhone

jada-jones

Applying for jobs can be a long, strenuous, and stressful task. Sometimes, it takes weeks to months and tens to hundreds of applications before you find a job that fits your schedule, salary, and location preferences.

So, while you're on the job hunt, it's important to apply whenever and wherever you can. But if you don't have consistent access to a computer, putting in job applications can be even more daunting.

Also: How to use ChatGPT to write a cover letter (and why you should)

But if you have an iPhone , you can upload your resume, cover letter, and portfolio to the application from your phone. Here's how.

How to use your iPhone to upload your resume

What you need: You need your iPhone and your resume, cover letter, or portfolio. You'll need to have your resume, cover letter, or portfolio already completed. You'll also need to make sure those documents are in a Doc, Docx., or PDF file type. The process should take about 2 to 3 minutes.

1. Save your documents and email them to yourself

Make sure your documents are polished and ready for a prospective employer to see. Then, save them and email yourself a copy of each document. If you have a Mac or MacBook , you can AirDrop the documents directly to your iPhone.

2. Save the documents to the Files app

Once you've emailed yourself the documents, click on the attachment and press the share button located in the top right corner of the screen.

Also: How to use ChatGPT to build your resume

Then, scroll down and find "Save to Files."

3. Choose where you want your documents

The next screen will prompt you to choose where you want your documents to be within the Files app. I like to save my documents in the "On My iPhone" folder. Once you decide where you want your documents, hit the save button in the upper right corner.

4. Upload your documents to the application

When you find a job you want to apply for, you'll be asked to upload your resume. The website will then ask if you want to upload a photo or a file. Click "Choose File." After that, find your resume in your saved files. It will probably be at the top since it was your most recently saved document.

Then, click on your resume, and it will be uploaded to the application.

And that's it. You've uploaded your resume to an application without needing to complete the application on a computer. You can repeat the same steps for your cover letter or portfolio if the applications calls for those documents.

Now, fill out the rest of the application and wait to hear back from the employer. Good luck!

How To Edit Your Resume On iPhone

Editing a resume on your iPhone can be a great way to quickly make changes and updates to your resume from anywhere. Whether you’re in the middle of an interview or just want to update some information, it’s now possible to edit your resume directly on your phone.

First, you’ll need a few apps that will allow you to edit a resume on an iPhone. You can use apps like Resume Builder, Adobe Acrobat, and PDF Expert. With these apps, you can create a professional-looking resume with ease.

Once the app is installed, open it and upload your existing resume document into the app. From here, you can make changes such as formatting the text or adding images. Resume Builder allows you to easily customize the template for your resume so it looks exactly how you want it. Adobe Acrobat also allows for easy editing of PDF files and includes features like sticky notes and annotation tools for marking up text.

When making changes directly on an iPhone, there are some limitations such as not being able to add new sections or change the layout of the page too much. However, these apps are still useful for making small adjustments quickly without having to open up a laptop or computer.

If you’re looking to make larger changes such as creating new sections or changing fonts, then using a program like Microsoft Word is probably best. This way you can have more control over what goes into the document and where everything is placed on the page. Once finished, just save it as a PDF file so that it can be uploaded into the iPhone apps for further editing if necessary.

Editing resumes on an iPhone has never been easier thanks to modern smartphone technology and helpful apps like Resume Builder and Adobe Acrobat Reader. So get ready to update your resume from anywhere with just a few taps!

How to Screen Record on an iPhone or iPad

Sometimes a screenshot just doesn't suffice. Thankfully, recording your screen is simple.

apple-iphone-screen-recording-0720

It's easy to capture what's happening on your phone's screen.

There are times when taking a screenshot just isn't enough to capture something on your iPhone or iPad. Take, for example, documenting a step-by-step tutorial about how to turn on a specific phone feature, or capturing a snippet of a video you can't easily download. That's when screen recordings come into play. Luckily, it's a pretty simple process.

Screen recordings also allow you to include audio, if you'd like to incorporate a verbal walk-through of what you're doing or a commentary on what's being shown. You can then easily share your screen recording or save it for your records.

See also: How to Take a Screenshot on Any iPhone or Android Phone

Here's how to record your iPhone or iPad's screen.

Before you get started

You'll first need to make sure the screen record button is your device's Control Center. You can check this by swiping down from the top-right edge of your screen and looking for a dot with a circle around it. That's the screen record button.

If you don't see it, go to Settings > Control Center , then scroll down to the More Controls section and find Screen Recording . Tap the green plus button next to it to add it to the Control Center.

apple-iphone-screen-recording-0707

Access the screen record button from the Control Center.

Start recording

Once you've added the Screen Recording shortcut, open the Control Center. On the iPhone X or newer, you can access this by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen. On iPhones older than the iPhone X, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

Tap the Screen Recording button, which is the dot with the circle around it. This will trigger a 3-second countdown, which will either show up inside the button or, if you have the iPhone 14 Pro or later, in Dynamic Island .

Once the recording starts, the button will turn red. If you have Dynamic Island, you'll also see a red dot there. Otherwise, there'll be a red highlight behind the time in the upper-left corner (on newer iPhones), or be a red bar across the top of your screen (on older iPhones). Tap on Dynamic Island, the red highlight or the red bar to stop recording.

Record with audio for a personal touch

If you want to incorporate a voiceover into what you're screen recording, you can turn on your phone's microphone too.

Open the Control Center and long press the Screen Recording button. Then, tap the microphone icon at the bottom of the screen. Start recording and your phone will also capture what you say.

To turn this off, long press the Screen Recording button again and tap the microphone.

Now, save or share your recording

Once you stop recording, the file will save to Photos. Go there to view, edit, crop and share the video how ever you'd like. For more, check out our  iOS 17 cheat sheet  to find out which features can help you get the most out of your device.

About eSIM on iPhone

Learn what an eSIM is, how to set up an eSIM on your iPhone, and how to transfer a physical SIM to an eSIM.

What is eSIM on iPhone?

An eSIM is an industry-standard digital SIM that allows you to activate a cellular plan from your carrier without having to use a physical SIM. You can install eight or more eSIMs on an iPhone and use two phone numbers at the same time.

What you need

An iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or later

A wireless carrier or worldwide service provider that supports eSIM

Your new iPhone needs to be connected to a Wi-Fi network.*

eSIM on iPhone is not offered in China mainland. In Hong Kong and Macao, some iPhone models feature eSIM. Learn about using Dual SIM with two nano-SIM cards in China mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao . For travelers visiting China mainland who wish to use an eSIM for prepaid data plans, these are offered by many worldwide service providers .

* iPhone 14 models and later that are eSIM only can activate without a Wi-Fi network.

How to set up an eSIM on iPhone

Setting up your eSIM is usually just a matter of turning on your new iPhone and following the onscreen instructions.

You can activate your eSIM while you're setting up your iPhone if your carrier supports eSIM Carrier Activation or eSIM Quick Transfer. With eSIM Carrier Activation, your carrier assigns an eSIM to your iPhone when you purchase it. With eSIM Quick Transfer, you transfer the SIM from your previous iPhone to your new iPhone without contacting your carrier. With either method, to activate your eSIM during setup, turn on your iPhone and follow the instructions.

Some carriers support transferring a phone number from your previous iPhone to your new iPhone without needing to contact them. Make sure that you’re signed in with your Apple ID on both devices, or make sure that your previous iPhone is unlocked, nearby with Bluetooth turned on, and using iOS 16 or later.

You can also use these options later to add or transfer an eSIM. If these options aren't available, contact your carrier to activate your eSIM using a QR code or your carrier's iPhone app.

If you purchased an iPhone 14 model or later in the United States, your iPhone activates with an eSIM. To activate your eSIM using eSIM Carrier Activation, eSIM Quick Transfer, or another activation method, turn on your iPhone and follow the instructions.

Use eSIM Carrier Activation on iPhone

Some carriers and worldwide service providers can assign a new eSIM to your iPhone, making setup easy. This usually happens when you purchase from a carrier and you provide your cellular-plan details. If an eSIM was assigned to your iPhone when you bought it, turn on your iPhone and follow the instructions to activate your eSIM.

If you're switching to iPhone (from an Android phone, for example), contact your carrier to transfer your phone number to your iPhone through eSIM Carrier Activation or by scanning a QR code from your carrier.

If you contacted your carrier for an eSIM after you set up your iPhone, and they set up eSIM Carrier Activation, follow these steps:

When a notification appears that says Carrier Cellular Plan Ready to Be Installed, tap it.

In the Settings app, tap Carrier Cellular Plan Ready to Be Installed.

Tap Continue at the bottom of the screen.

Make a call on your iPhone to check its cellular connectivity. If you can't make a call, contact your carrier.

If the plan you activated replaces the plan on your physical SIM, remove your physical SIM. Then restart your iPhone.

Use eSIM Quick Transfer on iPhone

Some carriers support SIM transfers from your previous iPhone to your new iPhone without needing to contact them. You can also convert your current physical SIM card to an eSIM.

If you don't have access to your current iPhone, contact your carrier to transfer your eSIM.

While you're setting up your iPhone, if you're asked to transfer your SIM, follow the onscreen instructions to transfer your physical SIM or eSIM. If you need to transfer more than one SIM to your new iPhone, transfer your additional SIMs following the steps below.

Transfer a physical SIM or eSIM on your previous iPhone to an eSIM on your new iPhone after setup

On your new iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular Plan.

Choose a cellular plan to transfer from another iPhone. If you don't see a list of numbers, tap Transfer From Another iPhone. This requires both devices to have iOS 16 or later.

ios-16-iphone-13-pro-settings-cellular-setup-esim

Check for instructions on your previous iPhone to confirm the transfer. To confirm, tap Transfer or, if asked for a verification code, enter the code that's displayed on your new iPhone.

Wait for the cellular plan to activate on your new iPhone. Your previous SIM is deactivated when the cellular plan on your new iPhone activates.

If a banner appears on your new iPhone that says Finish Setting Up Your Carrier's Cellular Plan, tap it. You will be redirected to your carrier's webpage to transfer your eSIM. If you need help, contact your carrier.

Convert a physical SIM to an eSIM on the same iPhone

You can convert a physical SIM to an eSIM on the same iPhone, if your carrier supports it. Follow these steps:

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular.

Tap Convert to eSIM. If you don't see Convert to eSIM, your carrier doesn't support this option. Contact your carrier to move your phone number from your physical SIM to an eSIM using eSIM Carrier Activation or by scanning a QR code.

Tap Convert Cellular Plan.

No alt supplied for Image

Tap Convert to eSIM.

Wait for your eSIM to activate. Your previous SIM card is deactivated when the cellular plan on your iPhone activates.

Remove the physical SIM from your iPhone. Then restart your iPhone.

Use a QR code

You can use a QR code from your carrier to set up eSIM on your iPhone.

To activate your eSIM while setting up your iPhone:

When you get to the Set Up Cellular screen, tap Use QR code.

Follow the onscreen instructions.

To activate your eSIM after you set up your iPhone, contact your carrier to get a QR code. Then follow these steps:

Open the Camera app and scan your QR code. When the Cellular Plan Detected notification appears, tap it.

If you’re using an iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later and you receive a QR code from your carrier in an email, or from the carrier webpage, touch and hold the QR code, then tap Add eSIM.

Tap Add Cellular Plan.

If you’re asked to enter a confirmation code to activate your eSIM, enter the number that your carrier provided.

Other eSIM activation methods

Some carriers may send you a link instead of a QR code to download your eSIM.

On your iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later, tap the link to set up your eSIM.

When the Activate New eSIM notification appears, tap Allow.

If your carrier supports activating eSIM using an app, download your carrier’s app from the App Store and follow the instructions.

Enter the eSIM information manually if necessary

Contact your carrier to get the eSIM details you need to enter.

Go to Settings.

Tap either Cellular or Mobile Data.

Tap Enter Details Manually at the bottom of your iPhone screen.

If you can't set up an eSIM .

If necessary, erase your eSIM .

Learn how to use Dual SIM with eSIM .

How to Take a Screenshot on Any iPhone or Android Phone

T here are many reasons you might want to take a screenshot on your phone. Perhaps it's to save a cool post on Instagram, document the latest fashions for wardrobe inspiration, or maybe it's to archive a wholesome (or hilarious) text exchange with loved ones.

Whatever the reason, here are several easy ways to capture your iPhone or Android screen. Stretch those fingers, because there are going to be a lot of buttons getting pressed. (Actual buttons, not figurative ones.)

How to take screenshots on iPhone

For iPhones without a home button (any model from the iPhone X and newer), simultaneously press the power button and volume up button . But note that if you press these buttons down for too long, the power off and SOS screen will appear.

When you take a screenshot successfully, you'll see the screen flash and hear a camera shutter sound (if you've got silent mode off). A miniature version of your screenshot will float on the bottom left of your screen. You can tap on it and go into Markup mode to crop, edit or add text right away without having to go into the Photos app first, which is terrific.

If you don't want to edit your screengrab, you can just swipe the mini version away or wait for it to disappear on its own after a few seconds. By default, your screenshot will save to the Photos app.

iOS will also let you take scrolling screenshots, which let you capture multiple pages in a single snapshot. You can check out our step-by-step guide on that  here .

How to take screenshots on iPhone 8 and earlier

If your iPhone has a home button, there's a different way to take a screenshot. Press the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time. A mini version of your screenshot will pop up on the bottom left of the screen.

You can tap on it to edit it or share it right away.

How to take screenshots on Android phones

Android has a few different ways to capture what's on your screen. The universal way is to simultaneously hold the power button and the volume down button . The screen will then flash and a smaller version of your screenshot will appear on the display. This will work across devices like the latest Pixel 8 and 8A lineups, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

Depending on your phone, an editing window might pop up. Otherwise, the screenshot will disappear off the screen. Screenshots are saved in the Google Photos app, or in your phone's native gallery app.

Motorola's three-finger touch method

If you own any recent Motorola phone, like the Motorola Edge Plus or Moto G Power 5G , you can use the power and volume button technique, or a three-finger method. This latter technique happens to be one of my favorite ways to take a screenshot because there's very much a Vulcan-neck-pinch Star Trek vibe to it.

To enable three-finger screenshot, go into the Moto app, or if you're on an older Motorola phone, find the Moto Actions menu in Settings . Click on the hamburger menu and go to Moto Actions , then turn on Three Finger Screenshot . You can tap on the description to bring up a quick animated tutorial on how to use it.

Now any time you want to take a screenshot, simply press on the display with three fingers at the same time. The screen will flash and a screenshot editor will appear.

Samsung's karate chop technique

Perhaps the most interesting way to take a screenshot comes from Samsung. You can, of course, use the Android system way with the power and volume buttons. But there are a couple of other options, one of which involves using the edge of your palm.

To trigger this, hold your hand in a "karate chop" pose (so basically, the edge of your hand is perpendicular to the screen) and drag the side of your hand across the full display. Your phone will then take a screenshot.

To enable this feature, go into Settings and tap the magnifying glass icon. In the search field, type the word "palm" and you'll see a menu option appear called  Palm swipe to capture . Hit the toggle to turn it on.

Alternatively, you can go into Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures , then find  Palm swipe to capture in the list and hit the toggle to enable it.

I'll admit, this gesture isn't as reliable as the power and volume button press, but you can do it one-handed by merely grazing your phone's screen. Plus it's a fun party trick.

Samsung's Edge panel lets you take precise screenshots

Samsung didn't stop with the palm gesture; using the Edge panel on Galaxy phones, you can also take screengrabs with more precision.

To enable the Edge panel, go into Settings  > Display > Edge panels . Hit the toggle to turn it on. (Alternatively, search "edge" within Settings and hit the toggle next to Edge panels when it pops up.)

When you click on Edge panels , it'll take you to another screen with a section called Panels . Click on that, and choose Smart select from among the options to add those capabilities to your Edge panel.

When you want to capture your Galaxy phone's screen more precisely, open the Edge panel by swiping from the right edge of the display to the left. With the Edge panel open, swipe again through the various panels until you land on Smart select . From there, you can choose a rectangular capture, an oval capture or an animation capture that lets you make a GIF.

After you select how you want to capture the screen, a box or oval will appear. You can resize and reposition the tool over the part of the screen you want to capture, then tap Done . Hit the arrow on the bottom right of the screen to save the image to your Gallery.
