Year 3 Homework 8.3.24

Recently, in our History lessons we have been learning about Roman innovations and in particular we have looked at Roman roads.

For homework this week, we would like the children to research Roman Aqueducts in order to further support their understanding of the innovation of Roman architecture.

They can present this as a powerpoint, a simple written explanation, a poster, they could even make a model Aqueduct!

If you would like to email in a powerpoint instead of printing then please send to [email protected]

Please can the homework be handed in by Wednesday 13th March.

Year 3 Homework 1.3.24

This week we have been learning about the Celtic Queen of the Iceni tribe, Boudicca.

We would like the children to have a go at the reading comprehension to help them familiarise themselves with her story.

As an additional task, the children can complete some research into the Iceni tribe and find out information such as where it was in the country.

The comprehension will be sent home in the homework books however an online copy can be found below (complete with the answers!)

We hope that you all had a restful and relaxing half term.

For homework this week, we would like the children to work on the recall of their times tables, focussing on x2, x5, x10, x3, x4, x8. They should be able to recall these facts rapidly. Making use of TTrockstars, activity books, flashcards and quick quizzes will really help this. Make sure they revisit it little and often to help it stick!

You can access TTrockstars here: Times Tables Rock Stars: Play (ttrockstars.com)

There is an activity booklet here to help: Activity Booklet

If you have any difficulties at all with logging on to TTRockstars then please do let a member of the Year 3 Team know before the homework is due for completion on Wednesday 28th February.

Have a lovely half-term break!

Year 3 Team

Year 3 Homework 2.2.24

This week in our English lessons we have been focussing on formal and informal letter writing. Our grammar focus has been to look at the present perfect tense.

The present perfect tense consists of an auxiliary verb (have/has) + a past tense verb.

e.g. I have lived in Telford for 3 years.

I have been feeling poorly since Tuesday

We would like the children to complete the grammar activity below and for the children to hand it in by Wednesday 7th February

Present perfect tense activity

Year 3 Homework 26.1.24

This week for homework we would like the children to carry out some practise questions looking at multiplication.

In class, we have been looking at both the grid method and the expanded method for multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number. In case your child needs a reminder, there is an explanation of both methods below.

Multiplication method explanations

The children need to use the method that they feel most confident with and answer the questions below. The answers that they find, will help them solve the cow’s riddle. As always, a hard copy of the homework will be sent home with your child in their homework book

2 digit by 1 digit multiplication

Please can this be handed in by Wednesday 31st January

Year 3 Homework 19.1.24

For homework this week, we would like the children to complete the following comprehension. This supports the work we have been doing in class about Stone Henge.

A hard copy will be found in your child’s homework book and an electronic copy, complete can be found here –   Bronze age comprehension

Please can this be handed in on Wednesday 24th January

Year 3 Homework 12.1.24

For homework this week, we would like the children to complete the activity below. We are currently learning about multiplication and division and it is really important that the children are confident and fluent in their

2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 8s and 10s.

3, 4, 8 times tables

There is also a paper copy stuck into your child’s homework book. This is due in on Wednesday 17th January 2024

Year 3 Homework 22.12.23

Just a reminder that the homework set last week on Thomas Eddison is due in by Wednesday 10th January. Here is a quick reminder of the task:

We were so impressed with the quality of work produced from the Mary Anning research, that we would love for the children to have a go at some research on Thomas Eddison

Following our work on Light we would like the children to research Thomas Eddison and create a biography on him and his significant discoveries specifically around the light bulb.

Thomas Alva Edison: The “stupid” boy who invented the bulb

Some questions to consider when completing your research:

Who is he? When was he alive? What is he famous for? What impact does his discovery have on modern life?

We will be adding this work to the children’s science books so we would like them to work really hard on the presentation of their research.

Time Tables Rock Stars » Elmwood Junior School

If you have completed the background, please could you support your child with learning their 3 and 4 times tables. This can be achieved by accessing TT Rockstars or by more traditional methods!

There is even a ‘Battle of the Bands’ at the moment between the two year 3 classes on TT Rockstars!

How to do it?

Log in to TT Rockstars and for every question you get right, you gain a point for your class! The class with the most points wins! All games count – you just need to concentrate on getting the right answer. Incorrect answers do not get points so no cheating, please!

Discussing the books content is an essential part of reading as this supports the development of the child's comprehension skills, whilst also helping them to start formulating their own opinions about what they read.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

The daughter of country singer Wynonna Judd has been locked up in Alabama after she reportedly exposed her breasts and lower body while she sat at the corner of a busy intersection.

Grace Pauline Kelley, the troubled 27-year-old daughter of the famed vocalist, was picked up April 5 after revealing herself at the bustling crossroads of Interstate 65 and Highway 14 in Millbrook, according to WSMV 4.

Grace Pauline Kelley mugshot.

She also allegedly refused to identify herself when an officer rolled up, and wouldn’t listen to the cop’s commands, several reports said.

Authorities charged her with indecent exposure and obstructing governmental operations, then remanded her to the Elmore County Jail, according to AL.com.

She must post a $1,000 bond if she hopes to be freed, jail records show.

Her next court date is April 11, the outlet said.

Kelley, who is also mother to a young daughter, has a lengthy criminal history that includes meth charges and a probation violation that earned her an eight-year sentence in a Tennessee prison in 2018, according to WVLT 8 in Knoxville.

Wynonna Judd

Kelley — also the niece of actress Ashley Judd and the granddaughter of Naomi Judd — was later paroled, according to news reports.

But she was arrested again last May on charges that she violated a restraining order and broke the conditions of her parole, AL.com said.

Thousands of parents of two-year-olds benefit from 15 hours free childcare - here's how

year 3 homework uk

We’re making the  biggest investment  by a UK government into childcare in history, doubling the amount we expect to spend over the next few years from around £4 billion to around £8 billion each year.

We've already started to rollout the first phase of the expansion. As of April 2024, eligible parents of children who have turned 2-years-old before 1 April are getting help with their childcare costs by accessing 15 hours of government-funded childcare.

The rollout of support is part of our plan to help families – freeing thousands of couples from having to choose between having a family and a career.

This builds on existing government-funded childcare and later in the year the support will be extended to include some children from when they turn 9-months-old.

  • Currently, eligible working parents of 3 and 4-year-olds can access 30 hours of childcare support.
  • Eligible working parents of 2-year-olds are also now able to access 15 hours childcare  support.
  • From  September 2024 , 15 hours childcare support will be extended to eligible working parents with a child from 9-months-old.
  • From  September 2025 , support will reach 30 hours for eligible working parents with a child from 9-months-old up to school age.

When can I apply?

Applications are now open for eligible working parents whose children will be 2 or older by the 31 August to receive 15 hours childcare, starting from September 2024.

And from 12 May, eligible working parents whose children will be aged between 9- and 23-months old on 31st August, can apply to receive 15 hours childcare starting from September 2024.

It’s important to remember that codes need to be renewed every three months, so parents applying close to 12 May will need to renew their code prior to the offer starting in September.

You are able to claim your place the term after your child turns the relevant age. This gives local authorities and childcare providers enough time to prepare.

How do I apply?

You apply online here on   Gov.uk once you have checked our  eligibility criteria .

You’ll need to make sure you have the following information to hand before starting the application:

  • your national insurance number (or unique taxpayer reference if you are self-employed)
  • the date you started or are due to start work
  • details of any government support or benefits you receive
  • the UK birth certificate reference number (if you have one) for your child.

You may find out if you’re eligible straight away, but it can take up to 7 days.

Once your application has been approved, you’ll get a code to give to your childcare provider.

Eligible parents are also able to access Tax-Free Childcare through the same application system. You can apply for Tax-Free Childcare at any time. However, you don't need to apply for Tax-Free Childcare to be eligible to apply for the 15 hours childcare scheme.

What happens once I receive my code?

Once you receive your code, you’ll need to take it to your childcare provider, along with your National Insurance number and your child’s date of birth.

Your childcare provider will process the code to provide your place.

Places will be available for September in every area of the country, but a significant minority of settings hold waiting lists of over six months. If you have a preferred nursery for September, you should reach out now to secure a place for your child ahead of receiving your code.

Your local authority can provide support for finding a government-funded place in your area.

What if I’m already registered for Tax Free Childcare?

Parents must reconfirm that they are still eligible for Tax-Free Childcare every 3 months.

Parents who are already claiming Tax-Free Childcare and need to reconfirm their eligibility between 1 April and 12 May will be automatically issued a code in the post from HMRC soon after the 12 May.

This is to ensure every parent can give their code to their provider in good time. This code will be valid to apply for 15 hours of government-funded childcare from September.

If I receive a code in a letter from HMRC, does this make my code on my Childcare Account invalid?

No. Both codes will be valid.

Do I need to wait for my reconfirmation window to add another child to my account?

A parent who is already using the childcare service for another child can add a new child to their account at any time.

Your reconfirmation cycle for your current Tax-Free Childcare will not affect this.

How are you making sure there will be enough childcare places for eligible parents?

Parents that have a preferred place for September should reach out now to their local provider to secure a physical place for their child ahead of time.

To make sure there are enough places available, we’re investing over £400 million in 2024-25 to increase the hourly rates paid to local authorities.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies has independently reported that the average funding rates for two-year-olds and under 2s paid by government from April 2024 are projected to be substantially higher than the market rate paid by parents last year, and we have committed to further increases to provider rates for the next two years.

We have also committed to increasing hourly funding rates over the next two years by an estimated £500 million, to make sure providers can increase places at each phase of the rollout.

10,000 miles and 352 days later, a UK man reaches his goal of running the length of Africa

RAS ANGELA, Tunisia — Sore and sandblasted but triumphant, runner Russ Cook reached the northernmost point of Africa on Sunday, almost a year after he set off from its southern tip on a quest to run the length of the continent.

Dozens of supporters gathered on a rocky outcrop beside the Mediterranean in northern Tunisia, cheering on the British charity fundraiser, who has run more than 16,000 kilometers (10,000 miles) across 16 countries in 352 days.

“I’m a little bit tired,” Cook said — likely an understatement.

In the course of his journey the 27-year-old endurance athlete from Worthing in southern England crossed jungle and desert, swerved conflict zones and was delayed by theft, injury and visa problems.

Cook — known on social media by his nickname, Hardest Geezer — set off on April 22, 2023 from Cape Agulhas in South Africa, the continent’s southernmost point. He hoped to complete the journey in 240 days, running the equivalent of more than a marathon every day.

He and his team had money, passports and equipment stolen in a gunpoint robbery in Angola. He was temporarily halted by back pain in Nigeria. And he was almost stopped in his tracks by the lack of a visa to enter Algeria, before diplomatic intervention from the Algerian embassy in Britain managed to secure the required documents.

Cook, who has spoken about how running helped him deal with his own mental health struggles, previously ran about 3,000 kilometers (2,000 miles) from Istanbul to Worthing in 68 days.

His African run has raised more than 690,000 pounds ($870,000) for the Running Charity, which works with homeless young people, and Sandblast, a charity that helps displaced people from Western Sahara.

“It’s quite hard to put into words, 352 days on the road, long time without seeing family, my girlfriend,” Cook told Sky News as he started running Sunday, accompanied by supporters who’d come from far and wide to run the final stretch with him. “My body is in a lot of pain. But one more day, I’m not about to complain.”

Cook said he planned to celebrate with a party, where British band Soft Play was due to perform.

“We’re going to have strawberry daiquiris on the beach tonight,” he said. “It’s going to be unreal.”
