Welcome to Suffolk Writers Group’s Web Page

Here are some of the Suffolk Writers Group members with copies of ‘A Tapestry of Poetry’, an anthology of our work. I’m standing in the middle, along with our fantastic editor Gary Milson of Little Bear Publishing. You can find further details about the book here.

After moving from Norwich to Ipswich in 2011, I taught creative writing voluntarily at Gainsborough Community Library whilst working as a primary teacher. Three years later, I founded Suffolk Writers Group and began teaching adult writing skills on a professional basis.

I’ve won competitions for short stories, travel writing, and poetry with my work appearing in CGP Publications for schools, Suffolk Magazine, Best, and The Sunday Telegraph .

In 2021 I published my first poetry collection, Thirty Angry Ghosts , which includes poems in the voice of William Shakespeare, Mary Shelley and Anne Boleyn. (Click here to view on Amazon).

Since 2021 I have been writing and researching a novel set in 18th-century London. I completed the manuscript in December 2023 and am currently seeking literary representation.

Creative Mentoring, Tutoring and Feedback

I am available for one-to-one creative mentoring and writing tutorials from my home in Ipswich or via Zoom. Previously I have assisted people with story structure, dialogue, general writing craft, navigating publishing options and poetry. I also offer an honest and supportive feedback service. In all cases, I charge £30 an hour.

Creative Writing Workshops

I am available for hire as a creative writing tutor and facilitator. Previously, I have delivered creative workshops for Felixstowe Book Festival, Inside Out Community, Gainsborough Community Library, East Anglian Story Telling Festival and Stradbroke Writing Group. I typically charge £110 plus expenses for a two-hour session.

Recommendations

The feedback and support I received from Mai and Suffolk Writers Group was invaluable in my decision to submit my manuscript to agents. I was ultimately successful and my Viking trilogy, beginning with ‘How to Be a Hero’ was published by Macmillan Children’s Books.

After wondering about my confidence to get started on writing my first novel, I requested a one-to-one writing tutorial with Mai.  I found it both helpful and immensely inspiring.  Mai was thoroughly prepared and anticipated many of my questions with useful examples and templates from which I could build a sense of direction and structure for my writing.  Most of all she was a great listener. I came away feeling confident I could see my way forward, knowing  here was a highly reliable person on whom I could depend for future guidance and support.  Thank you very much indeed Mai.

Phillipa Gordon

Mai is so welcoming and as new writer venturing into the unknown, she is very reassuring, encouraging, and also really constructive in her comments. Thank you Mai.

Jacqui Martin

I wholeheartedly endorse Mai as a tutor. She has taken my writing from a series of official-sounding reports to a fully furnished novel, rich with descriptions and interesting characters. All done with gentle prodding and always a smile.

My name is Rhys Moffat- I am a 26 year old history teacher who has recently moved to the area.I would like to use my summer to get into writing and in the long term attempt to write a novel. I was wondering whether the Suffolk writers group would be a good opportunity to meet like minded people. I am a complete novice though, so may well be out of my depth early on.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Kind Regards,

Thanks for getting in touch, Rhys. It’s been great having you at our evening sessions.

This Autumn 2023, the National Trust at Flatford and the University of Suffolk, have partnered to present three special creative writing workshops at one of Suffolk’s most iconic locations.

Flatford, made famous by landscape painter John Constable, will host three workshops taught by writers from the University of Suffolk’s acclaimed MA Creative and Critical Writing course; Muriel Moore-Smith and Caroline Roberts.

The first, on Saturday 2 September, “Writing Nature, Environment and The Landscape” will look at the natural landscape and wildlife at Flatford and includes a tour and talk at Valley Farm Kitchen Garden.

On Saturday 14 October, the workshop “Memories of Water” explores the history of the waterways that run through Flatford and the memories they create, evoke and inspire.

The final workshop on Saturday 11 November called “Remembrance of Lives Past and Present” is about real people who have lived and worked at Flatford, and will reflect on our cultural heritage. This workshop also includes a tour and talk at Bridge Cottage.

Dr Amanda Hodgkinson, Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing said: “These Creative Writing workshops are designed for everyone from those who have never put pen to paper to experienced writers.

“You can join just one or all of the workshops available and each session will encourage creative responses to our iconic Suffolk landscapes through personal stories and shared words.

“The National Trust will also provide a tour and talk to accompany the workshops.”

Workshops are £30 per person and bookings for each can be made here:

Who will write my essay?

On the website are presented exclusively professionals in their field. If a competent and experienced author worked on the creation of the text, the result is high-quality material with high uniqueness in all respects. When we are looking for a person to work, we pay attention to special parameters:

  • work experience. The longer a person works in this area, the better he understands the intricacies of writing a good essay;
  • work examples. The team of the company necessarily reviews the texts created by a specific author. According to them, we understand how professionally a person works.
  • awareness of a specific topic. It is not necessary to write a text about thrombosis for a person with a medical education, but it is worth finding out how well the performer is versed in a certain area;
  • terms of work. So that we immediately understand whether a writer can cover large volumes of orders.

Only after a detailed interview, we take people to the team. Employees will carefully select information, conduct search studies and check each proposal for errors. Clients pass anti-plagiarism quickly and get the best marks in schools and universities.
